We introduce Nemotron 3.5 Super and Nemotron 3.5 Lightning, open and efficient Mixture-of-Experts Hybrid Mamba-Transformer models designed for reasoning, long-context understanding, and agentic workloads. Super is a 120B-parameter, 12B-active multimodal model, while Lightning is a smaller 30B-parameter, 3B-active text model; both designed for efficient deployment. Both models combine large-scale distillation, long-context training, and native speculative decoding, while Super further incorporates Indic continued pretraining and agentic software-engineering mid-training. We develop a comprehensive post-training pipeline spanning supervised fine-tuning and reinforcement learning (RLVR and RLHF), complemented in Super by specialized teacher training and multi- teacher on-policy distillation (MOPD). This transforms Super from a text-only base model into a multimodal agent capable of reasoning over text, images, video, and interactive tool environments. We further explore test-time scaling through parallel agent execution and self-verification. Across training and deployment, we jointly optimize capability and efficiency. Indic continued pretraining improves Indian-language benchmarks by up to 9.82 percentage points, while agentic mid-training strengthens software-engineering capabilities and robustness across agent harnesses. The post-trained Super model achieves 51.78% on SWE-bench Pro, surpassing Nemotron 3 Ultra despite using approximately 4.6x fewer active parameters. Post-training MTP boosting improves speculative- decoding acceptance length by up to 21.8% under probabilistic draft sampling, while NVFP4 quantization achieves 99.62% median accuracy recovery relative to BF16. Inference optimizations enable up to 4,856 output tokens/s/GPU on GB200 while sustaining at least 50 tokens/s/user.

Latent Abstraction for Retrieval-Augmented Generation

Ha Lan N. T, Minh-Anh Nguyen, Dung D. Le

Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) has become a standard approach for enhancing large language models (LLMs) with external knowledge, mitigating hallucinations, and improving factuality. However, existing systems rely on generating natural language queries at each hop and maintaining a strict architectural separation between retriever and generator, preventing them from leveraging the full representational capacity of the LLM. We propose \textbf{LAnR} (Latent Abstraction for RAG), a unified framework in which a single LLM jointly performs encoding, retrieval, and generation entirely within its own latent space. Rather than generating textual queries, LAnR produces dense retrieval vectors from the hidden states of a designated \texttt{[PRED]} token and uses them to match against encoded document representations from the same model. Furthermore, LAnR adaptively decides when sufficient evidence has been retrieved using a lightweight MLP control head over those same hidden states, eliminating both the separate retriever and explicit token-level stopping reasoning. This design is motivated by our empirical observation that answer token entropy reliably signals retrieval sufficiency. Extensive experiments on six QA benchmarks spanning single-hop and multi-hop settings demonstrate that LAnR outperforms existing RAG methods, while achieving improved inference efficiency through reduced number of retrieval calls and tighter model integration.

Benchmarking Vietnamese Legal Knowledge of Large Language Models

The rapid advancement of large language models (LLMs) has enabled new possibilities for applying artificial intelligence within the legal domain. Nonetheless, the complexity, hierarchical organization, and frequent revisions of Vietnamese legislation pose considerable challenges for evaluating how well these models interpret and utilize legal knowledge. To address this gap, the Vietnamese Legal Benchmark (VLegal-Bench) is introduced, the first comprehensive benchmark designed to systematically assess LLMs on Vietnamese legal tasks. Informed by Bloom's cognitive taxonomy, VLegal-Bench encompasses multiple levels of legal understanding through tasks designed to reflect practical usage scenarios. The benchmark comprises 10,450 samples generated through a rigorous annotation pipeline, where legal experts label and cross-validate each instance using our annotation system to ensure every sample is grounded in authoritative legal documents and mirrors real-world legal assistant workflows, including general legal questions and answers, retrieval-augmented generation, multi-step reasoning, and scenario-based problem solving tailored to Vietnamese law. By providing a standardized, transparent, and cognitively informed evaluation framework, VLegal-Bench establishes a solid foundation for assessing LLM performance in Vietnamese legal contexts and supports the development of more reliable, interpretable, and ethically aligned AI-assisted legal systems. To facilitate access and reproducibility, we provide a public landing page for this benchmark at https://vilegalbench.cmcai.vn/.

Beyond Vision-Language Models: Visual-Semantic Affect Graphs for Emotion Recognition in Artworks

Ngoc-Duy Mai, Ha-Thanh Nguyen, Hideaki Takeda

Emotion recognition in artworks remains challenging because affective meaning is often subjective, implicit, and shaped by relationships between visual form and semantic associations. While vision-language models provide strong multimodal representations, direct image-to-emotion prediction may overlook explicit relations among formal, semantic, and affective cues that support emotional interpretation. This paper proposes Visual-Semantic Affect Graphs (VSAG), a graph-based framework that represents artworks through interpretable feature nodes, including color, brushstroke, composition, light-shadow, line quality, and extracted visual entities. The graph learns feature-emotion associations for dominant emotion prediction, with valence-arousal structure modeled through an optional hierarchical auxiliary affect module. We evaluate VSAG and VSAG-TopK against direct VLM inference using Qwen3-VL and InternVL3.5 on EmoArt-5k. Results show that direct VLMs provide useful but modest baselines, while graph-based models improve dominant emotion prediction. In particular, the hierarchical valence-arousal variant of VSAG achieves the best overall performance, improving accuracy, macro-F1, and weighted-F1 over both direct VLM inference and the emotion-only VSAG baseline. Per-class results indicate that graph-based models and VLMs capture partly complementary signals, while valence-arousal structure is most useful when integrated as a coarse-to-fine affect hierarchy rather than as a simple post-hoc correction. These findings suggest that explicit visual-semantic structure can support both prediction and interpretation in artwork emotion recognition.

An Information-Theoretic Foundation for the Subregular Hierarchy

Mai Phan Quoc Hung N2TP Technology Solutions JSC, Khanh Nguyen Quoc N2TP and Phenikaa University, Đoàn Minh Luong, Duong Thu Ngan, Duong Thi Phuong Thao, Tuan Do Phenikaa University and N2TP Technology Solutions JSC

The Subregular Hypothesis posits that phonological patterns in natural languages occupy a restricted region of the formal language hierarchy, yet the cognitive basis for this restriction remains unclear. We propose an information-theoretic characterization: Strictly Local languages, when formalized as shifts of finite type, are exactly those admitting stationary Markov sources, which exhibit zero conditional mutual information between distant positions given intervening symbols. We prove that certain non-subregular patterns such as first-last assimilation admit no such Markov realization, explaining their unlearnability. Empirical validation on English phonotactics versus Finnish, Turkish, and Hungarian vowel harmony confirms that MI profiles statistically distinguish SL-like from TSL-like patterns (p < 0.001, r = 0.84). This work bridges formal language theory and information theory, offering a unified framework for understanding computational restrictions on natural language phonology.
