Achieving both high pronunciation accuracy and fine-grained controllability remains a central challenge in Japanese text-to-speech (TTS), as Japanese is an unsegmented language mixing logographic Kanji and phonographic Kana with extensive polyphony. Traditional cascaded systems convert text into phoneme sequences via a front-end, ensuring pronunciation control but discarding lexical semantics and prosodic cues in surface orthography. Conversely, recent zero-shot TTS models directly consume raw orthographic text to improve naturalness, yet suffer from polyphone errors and lack explicit pronunciation control. To bridge this gap, we propose a two-stage framework for flow-matching TTS. First, we investigate Ruby text representations with orthography perturbation to jointly preserve surface forms and target pronunciations for reliable control. Second, we introduce On-Policy Distillation (OPD) on large-scale text-only corpora to enhance pronunciation accuracy on raw orthographic text without paired speech. On the Joyo-Kanji-Yomi benchmark, our model achieves 97.13% Accuracy, 2.02% Target PER, 0.70% Sentence PER, and 4.21% Sentence CER under raw text while retaining strong controllability.
On-policy distillation (OPD) mitigates the student's exposure bias by optimizing on student-generated trajectories. However, student-generated prefixes may contain reasoning errors or follow patterns unfamiliar to the teacher, undermining the reliability of its token-level supervision. This degradation becomes more pronounced as prefixes grow longer. To address this teacher-side distribution mismatch, we propose Student-Prefix Teacher Adaptation (SPTA), which adapts the teacher to the states on which it is queried during distillation. Specifically, before OPD starts, we collect student rollout prefixes with random lengths and continually train the teacher to continue from the prefixes using reinforcement learning with verifiable rewards (RLVR). By treating each prefix as context and rewarding correct final answers, the teacher learns to recover from student-induced states rather than imitate the student's reasoning. Then, the adapted teacher is used for standard OPD, with no changes to the distillation objective. Experiments on mathematical reasoning benchmarks show that our SPTA improves average student performance over standard OPD and OPD with task-level RLVR-adapted teachers. These results highlight the importance of adapting teachers not only to solve problems independently, but also to provide reliable guidance on the states their students actually visit.
Language agents read code, tool output, and dialogue in contexts that grow at every step. Dynamic sparse attention lets a small indexer choose the earlier tokens each query attends to, but the indexer still scores the whole prefix at every layer. Cross-layer reuse methods such as IndexCache rerun the indexer at only some layers, with one fixed pattern for every input. In an agent, the relevant evidence can change abruptly when a traceback or test result arrives, so fresh selections matter more at some steps than at others. We propose Adaptive Index Reuse (AIR), which keeps IndexCache's execution and learns, for each segment of an agent episode, how many layers refresh their selection. A small controller reads signals from completed computation and the latest tool event, chooses a pattern from a nested library, and learns from terminal task reward under an expected compute budget. On Qwen3-4B-Instruct-2507 with a 128K context, AIR improves success over the strongest static schedule at matched cost on SWE-bench Verified (27.0% to 32.4%), Terminal-Bench 2.0, and three $τ^2$-bench domains, and it lowers time per successful task on all five. Across 50 backbone, context, and benchmark settings, it matches or exceeds that schedule in 44.

Multimodal Emotional Reappraisal (MER) aims to shift affective interpretation by rewriting and editing a situation without altering its underlying semantic context. Despite advances in controllable editing and sentiment transfer, MER remains challenging under coupled multimodal constraints, especially in internet memes where images, embedded text, and layout jointly encode affective meaning. To bridge this gap, we present MER-Bench, a systematic benchmark for MER on image-text memes, containing over 3,000 real-world memes with fine-grained annotations for emotion transformation and structure-preserving multimodal editing. MER-Bench spans diverse visual, textual, and structural settings and is paired with a structured MLLM-as-a-Judge evaluation suite, comprising eight fine-grained metrics and three aggregated objectives for emotional alignment, content fidelity, and transformation strength. Extensive evaluation of 14 advanced multimodal models reveals that: (1) current models struggle to jointly balance affect, semantics, structure, and text; (2) strong visual editing does not imply effective MER, with poor embedded text rendering and affect-aware rewriting remaining key bottlenecks. Our results identify MER as a critical capability gap in current multimodal generation systems and highlight affective image-text reasoning as a key challenge for future work. Command-line interface (CLI) agents increasingly execute longer-horizon tasks, yet existing benchmarks either assume that user instructions remain fixed throughout execution or evaluate task outcomes without capturing runtime collaboration quality. In this paper, we present REALCLI, a paired benchmark that unifies the evaluation of task execution and human-agent collaboration quality on realistic CLI tasks. To comprehensively measure collaboration, REALCLI builds a five-dimensional framework, operationalized into 22 sub-dimensions and 51 interaction scenario templates. REALCLI provides two modes for paired comparison: REALCLI-EXEC supplies complete specifications upfront, whereas REALCLI-COLLAB introduces a scripted user that delivers progressive information, corrections, constraint revisions, and authorization decisions. Evaluations reveal profound capability gaps in frontier agents: the best configuration attains an average score of only 49.2%, and when evaluated by the joint collaboration score ($J_{\mathrm{collab}}$), the peak performance reaches merely 37.6%. These results show that task effectiveness diverges sharply from collaboration quality, with models consistently struggling in steerability, trust calibration, and safety boundary management. REALCLI provides a rigorous, reproducible foundation for measuring and advancing collaborative CLI agents.

Deploying production-ready multi-agent systems (MAS) in complex industrial environments remains challenging due to limitations in scalability, observability, and autonomous evolution. We present OxyGent, an open-source framework driven by two core novelties: a unified Oxy abstraction and the OxyBank evolution engine. The unified abstraction encapsulates agents, tools, LLMs, and reasoning flows as pluggable atomic components, enabling Lego-like scalable system composition and non-intrusive monitoring. To enhance observability, OxyGent introduces permission-driven dynamic planning that replaces rigid workflows with execution graphs generated at runtime, providing adaptive visualizations. Furthermore, to support continuous evolution, OxyBank serves as an AI asset management platform that drives automated data backflow, annotation, and joint evolution. Empirical evaluations and real-world case studies show that OxyGent provides a robust and scalable foundation for MAS. OxyGent is fully open-sourced under the Apache License 2.0 at https://github.com/jd-opensource/OxyGent.

The matching paradigm is fundamental to large-scale information retrieval and is widely used in industrial search and advertising systems. Existing approaches employ Large Language Models (LLMs) primarily as feature extractors, underutilizing their full modeling capabilities. To address this limitation, we propose a novel matching paradigm, termed the Unified Generative and Discriminative LLM (UGD). It integrates two-tower, single-tower, and generative tasks within a unified LLM framework via attention-mask partitioning, enabling generative tasks to serve as auxiliary supervision for discriminative learning and facilitating distillation from single-tower to two-tower architectures through a multi-task fine-tuning mechanism. To satisfy online latency constraints, we further introduce a self-distillation variant of UGD with a KMeans-enhanced linearized RQVAE for prompt compression and quantization. This design compresses and quantizes landing-page documents during inference, improving serving efficiency and reducing storage overhead. Extensive experiments show that UGD achieves superior performance and strong practical value. The framework has been deployed in an industrial search engine serving hundreds of millions of users and hundreds of thousands of advertisers, significantly enhancing search experience. Despite recent advances in Reinforcement learning with verifiable rewards (RLVR) for large language model (LLM) reasoning, most methods suffer from exploration collapse, as the semantic homogeneity of random rollouts traps models in narrow, over-optimized behaviors. Existing methods leverage policy entropy to encourage exploration, but face inherent limitations: global entropy regularization is susceptible to reward hacking, inducing meaningless verbosity, whereas local token-selective updates struggle with the strong inductive bias of pre-trained models. To this end, we propose Latent Policy Optimization via Iterative Information Bottleneck ( I²B-LPO), which shifts from statistical perturbation of token distributions to topological branching of reasoning trajectories. I²BLPO triggers latent branching at high-entropy states to diversify reasoning trajectories and applies the Information Bottleneck as a trajectory filter and self-reward to ensure concise and informative exploration. Empirical results on four mathematical benchmarks demonstrate that I²B-LPO achieves state-of-the-art performance, with margins of up to 5.3% in accuracy and 7.4% in diversity metrics. Medical large Vision-Language Models (Med-LVLMs) have shown strong potential in multimodal clinical applications such as medical visual question answering and report generation. However, Med-LVLMs remain challenged by hallucinations caused by modality misalignment, where models prioritize textual knowledge over visual evidence and generate outputs that conflict with medical images. To mitigate this issue, recent studies have explored preference optimization to improve image–text alignment, achieving promising results. Despite these advances, existing preference-based methods still face two limitations in medical settings: (1) overfitting to superficial cues, and (2) pseudo convergence of the preference signal. In this paper, we propose Dynamic Evidence-Guided Preference Optimization (DEPO), a new framework that enables evidence-aware and adaptive preference learning for Med-LVLMs. DEPO introduces Multi-Modal Evidence Perturbation (MEP) to suppress non-causal textual and visual shortcuts, and Dispreferred Evidence Resampling (DER) to continuously update dispreferred responses as hallucination patterns evolve. Experiments on multiple medical VQA and report generation benchmarks demonstrate consistent improvements over existing methods, with strong robustness across datasets and architectures. All Codes and data will be released after review.

Large language models (LLMs) have demonstrated impressive capabilities in utilizing external tools. In practice, however, LLMs are often exposed to tools that are irrelevant to the user’s query, in which case the desired behavior is to refrain from invocations. In this work, we identify a widespread yet overlooked mechanistic flaw in tool refusal, which we term structural alignment bias: Even when a tool fails to serve the user’s goal, LLMs still tend to invoke it whenever query attributes can be validly assigned to tool parameters. To systematically study this bias, we introduce SABEval, a new dataset that decouples structural alignment from semantic relevance. Our analysis shows that structural alignment bias induces severe tool-invocation errors in LLMs, yet remains largely unaccounted for in existing evaluations. To investigate the internal mechanisms underlying this bias, we propose Contrastive Attention Attribution, which reveals two competing pathways for semantic checking and structural matching. The relative strength of these pathways drives LLMs’ tool invocation decisions. Based on these findings, we further introduce a rebalancing strategy that effectively mitigates structural alignment bias, as demonstrated by extensive experiments, without degrading general tool-use capabilities.

Role-playing agents (RPAs) have made significant strides in mimicking static character identities. However, their personality simulations remain superficial, lacking a profound understanding of complex human psychological mechanisms. We identify a critical bottleneck termed “Personality Inertia”—a behavioral rigidity where RLHF-induced alignment bias traps models in a sanitized, “helpful assistant” persona. This inertia prevents models from adapting to diverse social contexts or expressing essential but negative traits under pressure. To bridge this gap, we propose PD-LLM, a situation-aware framework grounded in Trait Activation Theory. PD-LLM introduces Bipolar Latent Decomposition, which decouples personality traits into bidirectional LoRA adapters. These adapters are dynamically modulated by a situation-aware module based on the DIAMONDS taxonomy, allowing for precise behavioral regulation. Empirical results show that while baseline methods fail to synchronize multidimensional traits under pressure, PD-LLM achieves superior performance in both static fidelity and dynamic adaptability. By advancing from prompt engineering to intrinsic parameter control, PD-LLM effectively overcomes personality rigidity, facilitating the creation of vivid and psychologically consistent agents.

The rise of Large Language Models (LLMs) is reshaping multimodel models, with speech synthesis being a prominent application. However, existing approaches often underutilize the linguistic intelligence of these models, typically failing to leverage their powerful instruction-following capabilities. This limitation hinders the model’s ability to follow text instructions for controllable Text-to-Speech (TTS). To address this, we propose a new paradigm inspired by operationalism that decouples instruction understanding from speech generation. We introduce BatonVoice, a framework where an LLM acts as a conductor, understanding user instructions and generating a textual plan – explicit vocal features (e.g., pitch, energy). A separate TTS model, the orchestra, then generates the speech from these features. To realize this component, we develop BatonTTS, a TTS model trained specifically for this task. Our experiments demonstrate that BatonVoice achieves strong performance in controllable and emotional speech synthesis, outperforming strong open- and closed-source baselines. Notably, our approach enables remarkable zero-shot cross-lingual generalization, accurately applying feature control abilities to languages unseen during post-training. This demonstrates that objectifying speech into textual vocal features can more effectively unlock the linguistic intelligence of LLMs.

Scaling large language models (LLMs) improves performance but significantly increases inference costs, with feed-forward networks (FFNs) consuming the majority of computational resources. While Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) architectures can reduce this cost through sparse activation, restructuring existing dense models into MoEs typically requires extensive retraining on hundreds of billions of tokens. We propose an analytical post-training framework that rapidly restructures FFNs into sparse MoE architectures using only a small calibration dataset. The method analyzes neuron activation patterns to partition neurons into always-active shared experts and conditionally activated routed experts, then constructs a router analytically from representative neuron statistics, enabling immediate deployment or optional lightweight fine-tuning. This approach applies both to dense models and recursively to existing MoE models for hierarchical sparsity.Experiments demonstrate up to 1.17\times speedup in compute-bound scenarios with only minutes of processing and 2k-sample fine-tuning, outperforming methods requiring orders of magnitude more resources.

Sparse Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) models have achieved remarkable scalability, yet they remain vulnerable to hallucinations, particularly when processing long-tail knowledge. We identify that this fragility stems from static Top-k routing: routers tend to favor high-frequency patterns over rare factual associations. Consequently, “specialist experts” possessing critical long-tail knowledge are often assigned low gating scores and remain “dormant”—under-prioritized for specific tokens despite their proven causal importance on other inputs. To address this, we propose Counterfactual Routing (CoR), a training-free inference framework designed to awaken these dormant experts. CoR integrates layer-wise perturbation analysis with the Counterfactual Expert Impact (CEI) metric to dynamically shift computational resources from syntax-dominant to knowledge-intensive layers while maintaining a constant total activation count, effectively retrieving causally decisive experts via virtual ablation. Extensive experiments on TruthfulQA, FACTOR, and TriviaQA demonstrate that CoR improves factual accuracy by 3.1% on average without increasing the inference budget, establishing a superior Pareto frontier compared to static scaling strategies.

Proximal Policy Optimization (PPO) is central to aligning Large Language Models (LLMs) in reasoning tasks with verifiable rewards. However, standard token-level PPO struggles in this setting due to the instability of temporal credit assignment over long Chain-of-Thought (CoT) horizons and the prohibitive memory cost of the value model. While critic-free alternatives like GRPO mitigate these issues, they incur significant computational overhead by requiring multiple samples for baseline estimation, severely limiting training throughput. In this paper, we introduce Sequence-Level PPO (SPPO), a scalable algorithm that harmonizes the sample efficiency of PPO with the stability of outcome-based updates. SPPO reformulates the reasoning process as a Sequence-Level Contextual Bandit problem, employing a decoupled scalar value function to derive low-variance advantage signals without multi-sampling. Extensive experiments on mathematical benchmarks demonstrate that SPPO significantly surpasses standard PPO and matches the performance of computation-heavy group-based methods, offering a resource-efficient framework for aligning reasoning LLMs.

Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) frequently hallucinate due to their reliance on fragile, linear reasoning and weak visual grounding. We propose Visual Attention Reasoning (VAR), a reinforcement learning framework that reformulates reasoning as a hierarchical search with self-verification. VAR enforces traceable evidence grounding by generating explicit bounding boxes, guided by a novel reward function combining geometric precision and semantic sufficiency. Furthermore, it replaces linear Chain-of-Thought with a tree-search policy capable of backtracking to correct logical errors. Theoretical analysis validates the framework’s reliability, and extensive experiments demonstrate that VAR significantly outperforms state-of-the-art methods on complex hallucination and safety benchmarks.

Post-training data plays a pivotal role in shaping the capabilities of Large Language Models (LLMs), yet datasets are often treated as isolated artifacts, overlooking the systemic connections that underlie their evolution. To disentangle these complex relationships, we introduce the concept of data lineage to the LLM ecosystem and propose an automated multi-agent framework to reconstruct the evolutionary graph of dataset development. Through large-scale lineage analysis, we characterize domain-specific structural patterns, such as vertical refinement in Math-oriented datasets and horizontal aggregation in General-domain corpora. Moreover, we uncover pervasive systemic issues, including structural redundancy induced by implicit dataset intersections and the propagation of benchmark contamination along lineage paths. To demonstrate the practical value of lineage analysis for data construction, we leverage the reconstructed lineage graph to create a lineage-aware diversity-oriented dataset. By anchoring instruction sampling at upstream leaf sources, this approach mitigates downstream homogenization and hidden redundancy, yielding a more diverse post-training corpus. We further highlight lineage-centric analysis as an efficient and robust topological alternative to sample-level dataset comparison for large-scale data ecosystems. By grounding data construction in explicit lineage structures, our work advances post-training data curation toward a more systematic and controllable paradigm.

Large language models (LLMs) have precipitated a dramatic improvement in the legal domain, yet the deployment of standalone models faces significant limitations regarding hallucination, outdated information, and verifiability. Recently, LLM agents have attracted significant attention as a solution to these challenges, utilizing advanced capabilities such as planning, memory, and tool usage to meet the rigorous standards of legal practice. In this paper, we present a comprehensive survey of LLM agents for legal tasks, analyzing how these architectures bridge the gap between technical capabilities and domain-specific needs. Our major contributions include: (1) systematically analyzing the technical transition from standard legal LLMs to legal agents; (2) presenting a structured taxonomy of current agent applications across distinct legal practice areas; (3) discussing evaluation methodologies specifically for agentic performance in law; and (4) identifying open challenges and outlining future directions for developing robust and autonomous legal assistants.

Large Reasoning Models (LRMs) have achieved remarkable performance on complex reasoning tasks by adopting the “think-then-answer” paradigm, which enhances both accuracy and interpretability. However, current LRMs exhibit two critical limitations when processing non-English languages: (1) They often struggle to maintain input-output language consistency; (2) They generally perform poorly with wrong reasoning paths and lower answer accuracy compared to English. These limitations significantly compromise the interpretability of reasoning processes and degrade the user experience for non-English speakers, hindering the global deployment of LRMs. To address these limitations, we propose M-Thinker, which is trained by the GRPO algorithm that involves a Language Consistency (LC) reward and a novel Cross-lingual Thinking Alignment (CTA) reward. Specifically, the LC reward defines a strict constraint on the language consistency between the input, thought, and answer. Besides, the CTA reward compares the model’s non-English reasoning paths with its English reasoning path to transfer its own reasoning capability from English to non-English languages. Through an iterative RL procedure, our M-Thinker-1.5B/4B/7B models not only achieve nearly 100% language consistency and superior performance on two multilingual benchmarks (MMATH and PolyMath), but also exhibit excellent generalization on out-of-domain languages.

The global deployment of Large Language Models (LLMs) underscores the urgent need to evaluate their cultural alignment. However, assessing genuine “cultural awareness” across modalities (text, vision, speech) and languages remains a significant challenge. To comprehensively investigate this domain, we propose MMAC, a systematic framework that encompasses a tri-modally aligned cultural benchmark creation pipeline and a five-dimensional evaluation protocol to assess cross-country awareness disparities, evaluate cross-lingual and cross-modal consistency, and verify cultural knowledge generalization and grounding validity. Given the prevailing Western cultural bias in current models, we focus on 8 Asian countries as our dataset foundation to more acutely reveal potential cultural deficiencies in LLMs. Our dataset, MMAC-bench, features 27,000 human-curated questions across 10 languages. Crucially, it is the first dataset aligned at the input level across text, image, and speech, enabling direct cross-modal transfer tests. Each question consists of multiple-choice options accompanied by open-ended generated explanations, where 79% require multi-step reasoning grounded in cultural context, moving beyond simple memorization. We probe the causes of modal divergence, offering insights into fostering culturally robust MLLMs.
