Humanoid rigging for modern characters with complex garments remains challenging due to the need for dense auxiliary skeletons and precise skinning control. Existing automatic methods primarily recover rigs from geometry, providing limited artist control over auxiliary articulation and often lacking explicit semantic or kinematic-chain structure for dense garment bones, leading to instability and weight bleeding. We present TailorRig, a framework that reformulates garment-aware humanoid rigging as a structured, controllable full-rig generation problem. This formulation shifts the goal from automatic rig recovery to artist-driven rig authoring, where both body-template compatibility and auxiliary articulation are explicit design choices. TailorRig exposes two explicit axes of artist control within a unified framework: a user-specified body skeleton template that preserves body-rig compatibility, and artist-provided semantic labels that drive an autoregressive generator to synthesize requested category-specific auxiliary bone chains. To robustly assign skinning weights under dense skeletal configurations, we further introduce a hierarchical chain-to-bone formulation: vertices are first associated to a kinematic chain, and bone weights are then refined within that chain, reducing weight bleeding between spatially adjacent but semantically unrelated structures. We evaluate TailorRig on a diverse set of characters and introduce Human-Mix, a large-scale dataset of over 38,000 humanoid models curated for garment-aware rigging. Experiments show that TailorRig improves skeleton accuracy, deformation stability, controllability, and practical usability over existing methods. Reasoning-enabled model derivatives must turn intermediate deliberation into a usable answer within a deployment budget. We study that transition in an Ornith checkpoint adapted to multi-camera driving question answering with verifiable rewards. Paired archived outputs show that, on a selected 400-question development screen with a 256-token cap, GRPO increases answer extraction from 78.25% to 90.25% and accuracy from 55.50% to 63.75%. Of 39 wrong-to-correct transitions, 33 begin with an unextractable base response. The base's 87 unextractable responses all reach the token cap. Checkpoint-verified reconstruction on those same questions gives a much smaller first-pass accuracy gain at 512 tokens: +0.75 percentage points, versus +8.25 at 256. A later answer-cued continuation is analyzed separately; it helps the base more and narrows the adapter difference. On the full 2,511-question development set, this recovery-enabled pipeline reduces mean generated tokens from 108.6 to 47.1, while the paired accuracy interval includes zero gain. We frame these findings as adaptation of answer delivery under finite budgets, with explicit selection and provenance limits. Ornith's self-scaffolding lineage and newer reasoning-enabled derivatives such as Bonsai motivate the problem, but our measured results concern Ornith alone and do not establish a shared architectural mechanism or cross-model transfer.

Lip reading plays a crucial role in applications such as speech recognition, assistive technologies for the hearing-impaired, and biometric authentication. However, performance often degrades when the speaker varies and when certain speech sounds are visually similar. To address these challenges, we propose LipLingo, a robust lip-reading system based on the LipNet architecture, enhanced with a standardized preprocessing pipeline for consistent mouth-region representation, a rotational validation strategy for improved generalization to unseen speakers, and a flexible similarity evaluation for more reliable sentence-level assessment. The model architecture combines 3D convolutional layers for spatio-temporal feature extraction and bidirectional recurrent layers for sequence modeling, optimized using the Adam optimizer and Connectionist Temporal Classification (CTC) loss. On the GRID dataset, LipLingo achieved 95.0\% character-level accuracy (CER 4.99\%) and 87.2\% sentence-level accuracy. At the corpus level, the system obtained a (WER 13.1\%), outperforming the baseline LipNet and demonstrating competitive performance relative to recent 3D-ResNet + Bi-GRU + MixUp approaches. These results provide insights into strategies that enhance lip-reading robustness and highlight directions for future work toward real-world deployment.

Recent perception-free end-to-end (E2E) autonomous driving methods bypass explicit perception outputs by compressing dense image patch tokens into compact scene tokens for downstream trajectory generation and scoring. While these scene tokens form a compact visual bottleneck for the planner, they receive supervision solely from the planning objective, providing limited constraints on the encoded visual information. To address this limitation, we introduce Neural Token Reconstruction (NTR), a representation learning framework to directly constrain the compact scene-token bottleneck in perception-free driving. NTR introduces a self-distillation masked latent reconstruction objective that reconstructs masked patch-level latent features using only compact scene tokens as reconstruction memory. This forces reconstruction gradients to pass exclusively through the scene-token bottleneck, encouraging scene tokens to preserve richer and less redundant visual representations for planning. We further introduce semantic priors derived from foundation-model annotations as a weak semantic interface biasing reconstruction targets toward driving-related structures without introducing explicit perception heads. All auxiliary reconstruction components are removed at inference time, leaving the deployed planner unchanged. NTR achieves state-of-the-art performance on three public autonomous driving benchmarks, including 8.0461 RFS on Waymo E2E and 94.1 PDMS / 90.9 EPDMS on NavSim1&2. The learned scene tokens exhibit lower pairwise redundancy and higher effective rank, indicating that effective bottleneck supervision improves both compact visual representation learning and planning performance.

Handwritten civil-status registers across Sub-Saharan Africa are being photographed, but rarely transcribed, which leaves their content unsearchable. Local administrations that hold these records typically lack GPUs, reliable connectivity, and the budget for external digitization services. We study whether a frugal pipeline, with consumer-grade capture and CPU-only inference, can make such registers machine-readable. We introduce a corpus of 1,568 smartphone images of handwritten birth, marriage, and death records from a municipal registry in Chad, with line-level transcriptions for 185 records. Our pipeline combines a fully classical preprocessing stage, running at about 2.6 images per second on a laptop CPU, with a Kraken recognizer fine-tuned from a pretrained model in about four hours on a free-tier GPU. On manually corrected line segmentation and a single-registry test set whose writers also appear in training, fine-tuning reduces the character error rate from 14.53% to 0.50% and the word error rate from 56.93% to 3.37%. On a six-core laptop CPU, the recognizer weighs 61 MiB, peaks below 2.6 GiB of RAM, and processes an image in under 6 s on average, excluding line segmentation. Finally, a downstream information-extraction task shows that residual recognition errors cost about 9 F1 points on role resolution, compared with a 36.7-point gap between the fine-tuned and pretrained recognizers. These results are evidence of feasibility within one registry, not of performance on unseen writers or sites; we discuss these limitations in detail.
Flexible image tokenizers aim to represent an image using an ordered 1D variable-length token sequence. This flexible tokenization is typically achieved through nested dropout, where a portion of trailing tokens is randomly truncated during training, and the image is reconstructed using the remaining preceding sequence. However, this tail-truncation strategy inherently concentrates the image information in the early tokens, limiting the effectiveness of downstream AutoRegressive (AR) image generation as the token length increases. To overcome these limitations, we propose \textbf{ReToK}, a flexible tokenizer with \underline{Re}dundant \underline{Tok}en Padding and Hierarchical Semantic Regularization, designed to fully exploit all tokens for enhanced latent modeling. Specifically, we introduce \textbf{Redundant Token Padding} to activate tail tokens more frequently, thereby alleviating information over-concentration in the early tokens. In addition, we apply \textbf{Hierarchical Semantic Regularization} to align the decoding features of earlier tokens with those from a pre-trained vision foundation model, while progressively reducing the regularization strength toward the tail to allow finer low-level detail reconstruction. Extensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of ReTok: on ImageNet 256$\times$256, our method achieves superior generation performance compared with both flexible and fixed-length tokenizers. Code will be available at: \href{https://github.com/zfu006/ReTok}{https://github.com/zfu006/ReTok}

Many current end-to-end driving policies emit a pool of candidate trajectories and select one, which makes selection a separable component: a scorer can be retrained while the planner, its backbone, and its trajectory generator all stay frozen. However, many strong planners concentrate their proposals around safe mode, providing limited supervision near decision boundaries. In this work, we design a training dataset that provides more informative supervision for the scorer. In particular, we construct two generators that perturb the logged human trajectory along the two axes a vehicle can be displaced: laterally toward the drivable boundary and longitudinally toward a leading vehicle. The designed dataset produces more informative positive and negative samples than the base planner's proposal pool. We attach a transformer-based scorer to two frozen generative planners, DiffusionDrive and MeanFuser, and train it on the NAVSIM navtrain dataset. The results of the experiments show that we achieve 90.1 EPDMS on DiffusionDrive and 90.4 EPDMS on MeanFuser when using ResNet-34, with 0.4 and 0.3 EPDMS respectively, from the designed training dataset. The code is publicly available at https://github.com/PurdueDigitalTwin/Versatile-Scoring.

Robust deployment of large multimodal models (LMMs) in real-world scenarios requires access to external knowledge sources, given the complexity and dynamic nature of real-world information. Existing approaches such as retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and prompt engineered search agents rely on rigid pipelines, often leading to inefficient or excessive search behaviors. We present MMSearch-R1, the first end-to-end reinforcement learning framework that enables LMMs to perform on-demand, multi-turn search in real-world Internet environments. Our framework integrates both image and text search tools, allowing the model to reason about when and how to invoke them guided by an outcome-based reward with a search penalty. To support training, We collect a multimodal search VQA dataset through a semi-automated pipeline that covers diverse visual and textual knowledge needs and curate a search-balanced subset with both search-required and search-free samples, which proves essential for shaping efficient and on-demand search behavior. Extensive experiments on knowledge-intensive and info-seeking VQA tasks show that our model not only outperforms traditional RAG-based baselines of the same model size, but also matches the performance of a larger RAG-based model while reducing search calls by over 30%. We further analyze key empirical findings to offer actionable insights for advancing research in multimodal search.

Existing facial forgery detection methods typically focus on binary classification or pixel-level localization, providing little semantic insight into the nature of the manipulation. To address this, we introduce Forgery Attribution Report Generation, a new multimodal task designed to provide post-hoc forensic evidence for manipulated images. This task jointly localizes forged regions (“Where“) and generates natural language explanations grounded in the editing process (“Why“). This dual-focus approach goes beyond traditional binary forensics, providing a comprehensive, interpretable understanding of the manipulation. To enable research in this domain, we present Multi-Modal Tamper Tracing (MMTT), a large-scale dataset of 152,217 samples. Each sample features a process-derived ground-truth mask and a human-authored textual description, ensuring high annotation precision and linguistic richness. We further propose ForgeryTalker, a unified end-to-end baseline that integrates vision and language via a shared encoder and dual decoders for mask and text generation. Experiments show that ForgeryTalker achieves competitive performance on both subtasks, i.e., 59.3 CIDEr and 73.67 IoU, establishing a strong baseline for explainable multimedia forensics. Infographics are composite visual artifacts that combine data visualizations with textual and illustrative elements to communicate information. While recent text-to-image (T2I) models can generate aesthetically appealing images, their reliability in generating infographics remains unclear. Generated infographics may appear correct at first glance but contain easily overlooked issues, such as distorted data encoding or incorrect textual content. We present IGenBench, the first benchmark for evaluating the reliability of text-to-infographic generation, comprising 600 curated test cases spanning 30 infographic types. We design an automated evaluation framework that decomposes reliability verification into atomic yes/no questions based on a taxonomy of 10 question types. We employ multimodal large language models (MLLMs) to verify each question, yielding question-level accuracy (Q-ACC) and infographic-level accuracy (I-ACC). We comprehensively evaluate 10 state-of-the-art T2I models on IGenBench. Our systematic analysis reveals key insights for future model development: (i) a three-tier performance hierarchy with the top model achieving Q-ACC of 0.90 but I-ACC of only 0.49; (ii) data-related dimensions emerging as universal bottlenecks (e.g., Data Completeness: 0.21); and (iii) the challenge of achieving end-to-end correctness across all models.

Multimodal large language models (MLLMs) are making rapid strides in complex visual reasoning. This survey synthesizes the emerging paradigm of Image-Grounded Chain-of-Thought (IG-CoT), where models ground intermediate inferences by interleaving textual rationales with visual state updates. We formalize IG-CoT, present a method-centric taxonomy covering prompting, supervised fine-tuning, and reinforcement learning, and map these techniques to representative benchmarks. Our analysis identifies two domains where IG-CoT offers significant advantages: detail-oriented reasoning requiring meticulous perception, and imagined-world reasoning for simulating unseen states in games, geometry, and planning. We discuss the practical trade-offs of current methods regarding controllability, data, and compute. We conclude by highlighting key challenges (efficiency, data quality, and generative capabilities) and outlining promising future directions, including lightweight architectures, richer intermediate supervision, and method-aware evaluations that better assess faithfulness and long-horizon reasoning. Situated conversational recommendation (SCR), which utilizes visual scenes grounded in specific environments and natural language dialogue to deliver contextually appropriate recommendations, has emerged as a promising research direction due to its close alignment with real-world scenarios. Compared to traditional recommendations, SCR requires a deeper understanding of dynamic and implicit user preferences, as the surrounding scene often influences users’ underlying interests, while both may evolve across conversations. This complexity significantly impacts the timing and relevance of recommendations. To address this, we propose situated preference reasoning (SiPeR), a novel framework that integrates two core mechanisms: (1) Scene transition estimation, which estimates whether the current scene satisfies user needs, and guides the user toward a more suitable scene when necessary; and (2) Bayesian inverse inference, which leverages the likelihood of multimodal large language models (MLLMs) to predict user preferences about candidate items within the scene. Extensive experiments on two representative benchmarks demonstrate SiPeR’s superiority in both recommendation accuracy and response generation quality. The code and data are available at https://github.com/DongdingLin/SiPeR.

The efficiency of long-video inference remains a critical bottleneck, mainly due to the dense computation in the prefill stage of Large Multimodal Models (LMMs). Existing methods either compress visual embeddings or apply sparse attention on a single GPU, yielding limited acceleration or degraded performance and restricting LMMs from handling longer, more complex videos. To overcome these issues, we propose APB-V, a sequence-parallel framework with optimized attention that accelerates long-video inference across multiple GPUs. By distributing approximate attention, APB-V reduces computation and increases parallelism, enabling efficient processing of more visual embeddings without compression and thereby improving task performance. System-level optimizations, such as load balancing and fused forward passes, further unleash the potential of APB-V, delivering speedups of 12.72x, 1.70x, and 1.18x over FlashAttn, ZigZagRing, and APB, without notable performance loss.

Advanced autonomous systems rely on multi-sensor fusion for safer and more robust perception. To enable effective fusion, calibrating directly from natural driving scenes (i.e., target-free) with high accuracy is crucial for precise multi-sensor alignment. Existing learning-based calibration methods are typically designed for only a single pair of sensor modalities (i.e., a bi-modal setup). Unlike these methods, we propose LiREC-Net, a target-free, learning-based calibration network that jointly calibrates multiple sensor modality pairs, including LiDAR, RGB, and event data, within a unified framework. To reduce redundant computation and improve efficiency, we introduce a shared LiDAR representation that leverages features from both its 3D nature and projected depth map, ensuring better consistency across modalities. Trained and evaluated on established datasets, such as KITTI and DSEC, our LiREC-Net achieves competitive performance to bi-modal models and sets a new strong baseline for the tri-modal use case.

Deep learning models for medical image analysis often act as "black boxes," seldom aligning with clinical guidelines or explicitly linking decisions to supporting evidence. This is especially critical in Alzheimer's disease (AD), where predictions should be grounded in both anatomical and clinical findings. We present EMAD, a vision-language framework that generates structured AD diagnostic reports with each claim explicitly grounded in multimodal evidence. EMAD uses a hierarchical Sentence-Evidence-Anatomy (SEA) Grounding mechanism: (i) sentence-to-evidence grounding links generated sentences to clinical evidence phrases, and (ii) evidence-to-anatomy grounding localizes corresponding structures on 3D brain MRI. To reduce dense annotation requirements, we propose GTX-Distill, which transfers grounding behavior from a teacher trained with limited supervision to a student operating on model-generated reports. We further introduce Executable-Rule GRPO, a reinforcement fine-tuning scheme with verifiable rewards that enforces clinical consistency, protocol adherence, and reasoning-diagnosis coherence. On the AD-MultiSense dataset, EMAD achieves state-of-the-art diagnostic accuracy and produces more transparent, anatomically faithful reports than existing methods; we will release code and grounding annotations to support future research in trustworthy medical vision-language models.

Vision-and-Language Navigation (VLN) agents have made remarkable progress, but their robustness remains insufficiently studied. Existing adversarial evaluations often rely on perturbations that manifest as unusual textures rarely encountered in everyday indoor environments. Errors under such contrived conditions have limited practical relevance, as real-world agents are unlikely to encounter such artificial patterns. In this work, we focus on indoor lighting, an intrinsic yet largely overlooked scene attribute that strongly influences navigation. We propose Indoor Lighting-based Adversarial Attack (ILA), a black-box framework that manipulates global illumination to disrupt VLN agents. Motivated by typical household lighting usage, we design two attack modes: Static Indoor Lighting-based Attack (SILA), where the lighting intensity remains constant throughout an episode, and Dynamic Indoor Lighting-based Attack (DILA), where lights are switched on or off at critical moments to induce abrupt illumination changes. We evaluate ILA on two state-of-the-art VLN models across three navigation tasks. Results show that ILA significantly increases failure rates while reducing trajectory efficiency, revealing previously unrecognized vulnerabilities of VLN agents to realistic indoor lighting variations. We introduce PhysGaia, a novel physics-aware benchmark for Dynamic Novel View Synthesis (DyNVS) that encompasses both structured objects and unstructured physical phenomena. While existing datasets primarily focus on photorealistic appearance, PhysGaia is specifically designed to support physics-consistent dynamic reconstruction. Our benchmark features complex scenarios with rich multi-body interactions, where objects realistically collide and exchange forces. Furthermore, it incorporates a diverse range of materials, including liquid, gas, textile, and rheological substance, moving beyond the rigid-body assumptions prevalent in prior work. To ensure physical fidelity, all scenes in PhysGaia are generated using material-specific physics solvers that strictly adhere to fundamental physical laws. We provide comprehensive ground-truth information, including 3D particle trajectories and physical parameters (e.g., viscosity), enabling the quantitative evaluation of physical modeling. To facilitate research adoption, we also provide integration pipelines for recent 4D Gaussian Splatting models along with our dataset and their results. By addressing the critical shortage of physics-aware benchmarks, PhysGaia can significantly advance research in dynamic view synthesis, physics-based scene understanding, and the integration of deep learning with physical simulation, ultimately enabling more faithful reconstruction and interpretation of complex dynamic scenes.

Low-light image enhancement (LLIE) aims to restore natural visibility, color fidelity, and structural detail under severe illumination degradation. State-of-the-art (SOTA) LLIE techniques often rely on large models and multi-stage training, limiting practicality for edge deployment. Moreover, their dependence on a single color space introduces instability and visible exposure or color artifacts.To address these, we propose Multinex, an ultra-lightweight structured framework that integrates multiple fine-grained representations within a principled Retinex residual formulation. It decomposes an image into illumination and color prior stacks derived from distinct analytic representations, and learns to fuse these representations into luminance and reflectance adjustments required to correct exposure. By prioritizing enhancement over reconstruction and exploiting lightweight neural operations, Multinex significantly reduces computational cost, exemplified by its lightweight (45K parameters) and nano (0.7K parameters) versions. Extensive benchmarks show that all lightweight variants significantly outperform their corresponding lightweight SOTA models, and reach comparable performance to heavy models. Existing generative models, such as diffusion and auto-regressive networks, are inherently static, relying on a fixed set of pretrained parameters to handle all inputs. In contrast, humans flexibly adapt their internal generative representations to each perceptual or imaginative context. Inspired by this capability, we introduce Composer, a new paradigm for adaptive generative modeling based on test-time instance-specific parameter composition. Composer generates input-conditioned parameter adaptations at inference time, which are injected into the pretrained model's weights, enabling per-input specialization without fine-tuning or retraining. Adaptation occurs once prior to multi-step generation, yielding higher-quality, context-aware outputs with minimal computational and memory overhead. Experiments show that Composer substantially improves performance across diverse generative models and use cases, including lightweight/quantized models and test-time scaling. By leveraging input-aware parameter composition, Composer establishes a new paradigm for designing generative models that dynamically adapt to each input, moving beyond static parameterization. In safety-critical industrial applications, accurately identifying causal relationships and quantifying uncertainty is essential for tasks such as root cause analysis, feature selection, and process optimization. Traditional causal discovery methods inadequately handle nonlinearities and complex uncertainties prevalent in industrial sensor data. To address this, we introduce a novel causal discovery framework that integrates Polynomial Chaos Expansion (PCE) representations of stochastic noise into structural equations. This method effectively captures complex nonlinear couplings and arbitrary noise distributions characteristic of industrial data. We rigorously prove the identifiability of causal structures under mild sparsity conditions on the chaos coefficients, extending linear non-Gaussian acyclic model (LiNGAM) identifiability results. Extensive experiments demonstrate superior accuracy, robustness under non-Gaussian noise conditions, and practical uncertainty quantification. This framework presents a principled, interpretable, and computationally feasible approach to causal analysis in nonlinear uncertain industrial environments.

Segment Anything Models (SAMs) are extensively used in computer vision for universal image segmentation, but deploying them on resource-constrained devices is challenging due to their high computational and memory demands. Post-Training Quantization (PTQ) is a widely used technique for model compression and acceleration. However, existing PTQ methods fail to consider the cross-attention architecture in the SAM decoder. This degradation primarily stems from the unique challenges posed by SAMs: (1) Attention dissipation, where the attention information in the decoder, which is crucial for representing segmentation masks, collapses into a diffuse and non-semantic form under low-bit quantization; and (2) Reconstruction oscillation, where bidirectional coupling within the two-way transformer introduces cross-branch error interference and destabilizes convergence. To tackle these issues, we propose CAR-SAM, a unified quantization framework tailored for SAMs. Firstly, to mitigate attention dissipation, we introduce MatMul-Aware Compensation (MAC) mechanism that transfers activation-induced quantization errors from MatMul to preceding linear weights. Secondly, to mitigate oscillation in decoder optimization, we develop a Joint Cross-Attention Reconstruction (JCAR) strategy that jointly reconstructs coupled attention branches, suppressing oscillatory behavior and promoting stable convergence. Extensive experiments show that CAR-SAM robustly quantizes SAM models down to 4-bit precision, surpassing existing methods by 14.6% and 6.6% mAP on SAM-B and SAM-L respectively.

Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models have shown remarkable progress in embodied tasks recently, but most methods process visual observations independently at each timestep. This history-agnostic design treats robot manipulation as a Markov Decision Process, even though real-world robotic control is inherently partially observable and requires reasoning over past interactions. To address this mismatch, we reformulate VLA policy learning from a Partially Observable Markov Decision Process perspective and propose AVA-VLA, a framework that conditions action generation on a recurrent state that serves as a neural approximation to the agent's belief over task history. Built on this recurrent state, we introduce Active Visual Attention (AVA), which dynamically reweights visual tokens in the current observation to focus on regions most relevant given both the instruction and execution history. Extensive experiments show that AVA-VLA achieves state-of-the-art performance on standard robotic benchmarks, including LIBERO and CALVIN, and transfers effectively to real-world dual-arm manipulation tasks. These results demonstrate the effectiveness of temporally grounded active visual processing for improving VLA performance in robotic sequential decision-making.

The Segment Anything Model 2 (SAM2) has emerged as a foundation model for universal segmentation. Owing to its generalizable visual representations, SAM2 has been successfully applied to various downstream tasks. However, extending SAM2 to the RGB-D video salient object detection (RGB-D VSOD) task encounters three challenges including limited spatial modeling of linear LoRA, insufficient employment of SAM's multi-scale features, and dependence of initialization on explicit prompts. To address the issues, we present Multi-Modal Mixture-of-Experts with Memory-Augmented SAM (M4-SAM), which equips SAM2 with modality-related PEFT, hierarchical feature fusion, and prompt-free memory initialization. Firstly, we inject Modality-Aware MoE-LoRA, which employs convolutional experts to encode local spatial priors and introduces a modality dispatcher for efficient multi-modal fine-tuning, into SAM2's encoder. Secondly, we deploy Gated Multi-Level Feature Fusion, which hierarchically aggregates multi-scale encoder features with an adaptive gating mechanism, to balance spatial details and semantic context. Finally, to conduct zero-shot VSOD without manual prompts, we utilize a Pseudo-Guided Initialization, where a coarse mask is regarded as a pseudo prior and used to bootstrap the memory bank. Extensive experiments demonstrate that M4-SAM achieves the state-of-the-art performance across all evaluation metrics on three public RGB-D VSOD datasets.
