EXACT: an explainable anomaly-aware vision foundation model for analysis of 3D chest CT

Xuguang Bai, Mingxuan Liu, Tongxi Song, Yifei Chen, Hongjia Yang, Kasidit Anmahapong, Zihan Li, Ying Zhou 等 9 位作者

Chest computed tomography (CT) is central to the detection and management of thoracic disease, yet the growing scale and complexity of volumetric imaging increasingly exceed what can be addressed by scan-level prediction alone. Clinically useful AI for CT must not only recognize disease across the whole volume, but also localize abnormalities and provide interpretable visual evidence. Existing vision-language foundation models typically compress scans and reports into global image-text representations, limiting their ability to preserve spatial evidence and support clinically meaningful interpretation. Here we developed EXACT, an explainable anomaly-aware foundation model for three-dimensional chest CT that learns spatially resolved representations from paired clinical scans and radiology reports. EXACT was pre-trained on 25,692 CT-reports pairs using anatomy-aware weak supervision, jointly learning organ segmentation and multi-instance anomaly localization without manual voxel-level annotations. The resulting organ-specific anomaly-aware maps assign each voxel a disease-specific anomaly score confined to its corresponding anatomy, jointly encoding lesion extent and organ-level context. In retrospective multinational and multi-center evaluations, EXACT showed broad and consistent improvements across clinically relevant CT tasks, spanning multi-disease diagnosis, zero-shot anomaly localization, downstream adaptation, and visually grounded report generation, outperforming existing three-dimensional medical foundation models. By transforming routine clinical CT scans and free-text reports into explainable voxel-level representations, EXACT establishes a scalable paradigm for trustworthy volumetric medical AI.

Unaligned Image Guided Denoising via Cross-modal Conditional Flow Matching

Runmin Zhang, Linshan Li, Si-Yuan Cao, Zhu Yu, Lingyu Zhu, Huaqi Zhang, Hui-Liang Shen

This work presents UGD-FM, a novel unaligned image guided denoising framework based on cross-modal conditional flow matching. Unlike previous approaches that assume spatially aligned inputs or only handle small-baseline rectified pairs, we address a more challenging setting where severe target noise and large-range two-dimensional cross-modal misalignment coexist. Specifically, we formulate guided denoising as a progressive flow matching process, allowing image restoration and aligned guidance aggregation to mutually reinforce each other. To support efficient few-step inference, we introduce a stage-focused and inference-consistent training strategy that focuses on task-critical denoising stages, and mitigates the training-inference mismatch. We further propose adaptive sparse guidance propagation for efficient and reliable large-range matching, regularized by perceptual and geometric auxiliary losses. Experiments demonstrate that UGD-FM achieves state-of-the-art denoising performance with only one or two inference steps, and is compatible with modern single-image restoration backbones.

Navigational Safety of Marine Surface Vehicles in Restricted Visibility: From Intelligent Vision to Vision-Centered Multi-Sensor Fusion

Ryan Wen Liu, Fengchuan Song, Tianxiang Wang, Guobei Peng, Youngrong Kim, Xian Zhong, Hooi-Siang Kang, Maohan Liang 等 10 位作者

Marine surface vehicles (MSVs) have attracted considerable attention for their commercial, scientific, and military applications. Owing to their favorable performance-to-cost ratio, shipboard cameras are widely used to detect and recognize potentially hazardous situations across diverse operational scenarios. However, visual perception is inevitably degraded by restricted conditions, including irregular motion of the imaging platform, adverse weather, and long imaging distances. To improve situational awareness and navigation capabilities, complementary sensors, such as the automatic identification system (AIS), radar, and light detection and ranging (LiDAR), etc., have become essential shipboard equipment. Multi-sensor fusion can provide richer perceptual information and help ensure navigational safety of MSVs in restricted visibility. This article reviews recent progress from intelligent vision to vision-centered multi-sensor fusion for newcomers and researchers in intelligent ship navigation and intelligent waterborne transportation system (IWTS). After introducing the generation of quality-degraded images in restricted visibility, we will review intelligent vision methods for four key issues, i.e., shipboard video stabilization, visual perception enhancement, object detection and tracking, and navigable area segmentation. We then examine vision-centered multi-sensor fusion methods, including infrared-visible image fusion, radar-vision fusion, LiDAR-vision fusion, AIS-vision fusion, and other multi-sensor fusion scenarios. Open-source datasets and safety-critical applications are also summarized and discussed. Finally, we highlight open challenges and future research directions. The collected maritime datasets are available at https://github.com/MAPGroup/Datasets and will be regularly updated.

Scalable Neural Video Representation Compression

Tianhao Peng, Ho Man Kwan, Fan Zhang, Shan Liu, David Bull

Scalable video coding (SVC) encodes a video into a layered bitstream of a base layer and one or more enhancement layers, enabling decoding at different bitrate/quality/resolution operating points for diverse devices and network conditions. SVC has been incorporated into major video coding standards and has recently attracted growing interest for both scene-agnostic and scene-adaptive neural video codecs. Among the latter, implicit neural representation (INR) based codecs overfit a compact neural network to an individual video, offering fast decoding and competitive coding efficiency. However, research on scalable INR-based compression remains in its infancy: existing methods introduce additional network layers, which couple the bitrate with the decoding complexity and cannot match strong scalable/non-scalable codecs. This paper proposes S-NVRC, a scalable INR-based video codec that jointly supports fine-grained bitrate and decoding complexity scalability from a single embedded bitstream. It adopts a coarse-to-fine prefix for feature grids and a nested prefix for network layers, which scale bitrate and decoding complexity, respectively. With a single encoding, S-NVRC spans a wide range of bitrate and decoding complexity and outperforms SHM-12.4 and the multi-layer VTM-20.0 by 43.7% and 5.6% in BD-rate on the UVG dataset.

Where Do Long Captions Fail? Position-Aware Diagnosis and Reinforcement Learning for Detailed Image Captioning

Yuanze Hu, Zhichao Yang, Junwei Jing, Xin Yang, Wenxuan Liu, Tinghai Zhang, Jia Fu, Hongzhi Zhang 等 12 位作者

Detailed image captioning is usually framed as an amount problem: a model should mention more visual facts while avoiding hallucination. However, autoregressive VLMs generate captions as ordered sequences, and later generations may be produced under weaker or noisier visual grounding. We therefore argue that long-form captioning should be studied not only by what facts are mentioned, but also by where they appear. We introduce a position-aware rubric representation that decomposes dense human references into atomic visual claims, verifies generated captions against those claims, and induces a quartile-wise composition of supported, hallucinated, and generic content. This lens reveals two qualitatively different failures in long captions: models tend to produce unsupported specificity in the middle, while the final portion often escapes into vague, non-evidential language rather than simply accumulating more hallucination. A same-reference human control does not exhibit these patterns; additional human audits examine the visual validity of the induced labels. Motivated by this diagnosis, we propose PAGER (Position-Aware Grounded Evidence Reinforcement), a GRPO training objective with separate signals for supported fine-grained middle evidence, evidence-bearing tail continuation, claim coverage, and content-aware length control. The result is a closed loop: the same ordered claim representation identifies where long captions fail and supplies the position-specific reward needed to repair those failures. Experiments on detailed-caption benchmarks show that PAGER improves position-wise grounding and pairwise caption preference while preserving competitive global caption quality.

VagueBench: Benchmarking the Robustness of Embodied Agents on Ambient Context Illusions

Yang Qu, Qiang Fu, Zonghao Ying, Jiayi Zhao, Yaoyuan Zhang, Jinyang Guo, Jian Yang, Aishan Liu 等 10 位作者

Embodied agents are increasingly deployed in open-world environments, yet current robustness evaluations remain biased toward hazardous instructions and jailbreak vulnerabilities. A more fundamental issue is largely overlooked: agents are rarely tested under semantically sufficient but contextually minimal instructions (i.e., common in real-world human communication), where auxiliary contextual cues are absent. For the first, we identify a novel phenomenon termed Ambient Context Illusion, where agents fail to execute tasks correctly when non-essential contextual details are omitted, despite unchanged task semantics. To systematically study this, we establish VagueBench, a benchmark built upon the AI2-THOR interactive simulation environment for the evaluation of context dependency in embodied agents. We systematically consider key semantic components of instructions (entities, procedures, constraints, and prior knowledge) and derive a unified taxonomy with four categories and nine subtypes to reduce auxiliary information. VagueBench contains 1,303 instruction pairs across diverse indoor environments, constructed via a human-agent co-generation framework that integrates semantic redundancy estimation, taxonomy-guided transformation, and rigorous semantic-invariance verification. Through extensive evaluation on 6 state-of-the-art embodied agents, we observe significant degradation on VagueBench in both task performance and executability (relatively -19.65% in task success rate and relatively +54.10% in empty plan rate) revealing a strong reliance on auxiliary linguistic signals rather than core task semantics. Furthermore, we demonstrate that this phenomenon persists in real-world robotic systems, where it can lead to incorrect decisions and potential safety risks.

ReWorld: Multi-Dimensional Reward Modeling for Embodied Video Generation

Baorui Peng, Wenyao Zhang, Liang Xu, Bohan Li, Hu Zhu, Zekun Qi, Hongsi Liu, Jiazhao Zhang 等 10 位作者

Current embodied video generation models primarily emphasize visual generative quality while overlooking physical fidelity, dynamic consistency, and task logic, especially for contact-rich manipulation tasks, which limits their applicability to downstream tasks. In this paper, we introduce ReWorld, a framework aimed to employ reinforcement learning to align the video generation with physical realism, task completion capability, embodiment plausibility and visual quality. Specifically, we first construct a large-scale (~235K) video preference dataset and employ it to train a hierarchical reward model designed to capture multi-dimensional reward consistent with human preferences. We further propose a practical alignment algorithm that post-trains flow-based video generators using this reward through a computationally efficient PPO-style algorithm. Comprehensive experiments and theoretical analysis demonstrate that ReWorld significantly improves the physical fidelity, logical coherence, embodiment and visual quality of generated rollouts, outperforming previous methods.

Label-Free Localization and Test-Time Suppression of CLIP's Typographic Circuits

Bohan Liu, Wenqian Ye, Guangzhi Xiong, Zhenghao He, Sanchit Sinha, Aidong Zhang

CLIP-based Vision-Language Models have become cornerstones of modern multimodal systems. The cross-modal contrastive objective equips the CLIP vision encoder to both see objects and read text. These two abilities induce an entanglement between the encoding of lexical and semantic shapes, creating a distinctive vulnerability to typographic attacks, in which rendered text overrides an image's semantic content with its literal meaning. The black-box nature of these encoders has prevented a mechanistic interpretation of such entanglement. We introduce a head-decomposed Sparse Dictionary Learning (SDL) architecture that, by design, decomposes individual attention heads into interpretable, head-specific latents. Based on this inductive disentanglement, we re-purpose Clarity Score and propose normalized Text Attribution Score, which are both label-free, to identify attention heads that carry typographic information. As a causal validation of successful circuit separation, we perform a mechanistic intervention that reweighs attention away from the patch tokens in the identified lexical heads at test-time. Experiments show that the intervention effectively recovers object classification under typographic attack and, across five CLIP variants and four typographic benchmarks, achieves up to 46.9% improvement while incurring up to 1% accuracy loss in general image perception, outperforming prior supervised and training-free methods. Expanding on the mechanistic intervention, we propose a test-time adaptive attention head routing to further reduce the impact on performance at matched robustness, pushing beyond the Pareto frontier of current robustness-perception tradeoff.

VibeVideoBench: Evaluating Multimodal Agents on Code-Driven Video Generation

Muxi Diao, Wenbin Xu, Lele Yang, Xuyang Ma, Yuzhe Chen, Jiankang Chen, Kaiyu Jiang, Changyi Liu 等 24 位作者

Diffusion video models produce striking clips, but they cannot reliably render an exact formula, a correct chart, a rule-consistent game or narration synchronized to on-screen events. A different route is emerging: multimodal agents that write code to render every frame and synthesize every sound. We introduce VibeVideoBench, a benchmark for evaluating agents on code-driven video generation. Its 239 self-contained tasks in English and Chinese span 12 categories, from data stories and music-driven pieces to classroom lessons and paper explainers; each asks an agent, running in its native harness inside a sandbox with no image or video generation model, to deliver a finished MP4 with sound within one hour. Evaluation is hierarchical and evidence-based: program checks of the delivery spec, about 13k task-specific rubric checks traced to the requirements they enforce, and five quality dimensions anchored per task, scored by three VLM judge panels. Across nine frontier agent systems and 2,151 scored rollouts, GPT-6 Astra and Claude Opus 5.5 rank first and second with both the judges and human annotators, and the strongest system satisfies every core requirement on 76.3% of tasks. Delivery is a second axis: counting missing videos as zero changes the ranking, and three quarters of the lost videos are final renders that started too late, ran too slowly or never started, a failure of how agents plan their hour. Agents build their own rendering pipelines and inspect their own frames, yet how much they look does not predict quality. The judges' ranking of the systems closely matches blind human preferences.

LabWorld: Learning Interactive 4D Worlds for Scientific Experimentation

Suozhi Huang, Kelsey Fu, Binxu Li, Luna Lyu, Kaize Wu, Wenbo Lu, David Smerkous, Jiahan Li 等 15 位作者

Autonomous scientific agents must not only reason about experiments but also interact with the physical environments in which they are executed. Existing laboratory simulators typically rely on manually constructed assets and predefined procedures, while laboratory videos capture real equipment, layouts, and interactions but leave this information implicit in pixels. We introduce LabWorld, an agent-driven Real2Sim framework for reconstructing interactive 4D laboratory worlds from monocular RGB video. LabWorld recovers reusable 3D assets, a metric scene, time-varying object states, and procedure events. Multi-frame observations provide complementary evidence for asset and scene reconstruction, while motion reconstruction combines visual and geometric observations with event constraints encoding the spatial and temporal requirements of laboratory interactions. We evaluate LabWorld on real pipetting and vortexing videos collected in our laboratory against general-purpose agentic and dedicated reconstruction baselines. For pipetting, LabWorld achieves a mean Mask IoU of 0.501, exceeding the strongest baseline by 0.033. For vortexing, it achieves a mean Tube-Length-Normalized PCK-AUC of 0.638, exceeding the strongest baseline by 0.035. On five pipetting videos, event-conditioned reconstruction increases the fraction of modeled physical constraints satisfied from 14.3% (5/35) to 100% (35/35). The resulting worlds expose geometry, motion, articulation, and events as explicit, editable state for replay, inspection, and future embodied scientific systems.

Learning to Feel the Future: DreamTacVLA for Contact-Rich Manipulation

Guo Ye, Zexi Zhang, Xu Zhao, Shang Wu, Haoran Lu, Shihan Lu, Han Liu

Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models have shown remarkable generalization by mapping web-scale knowledge to robotic control, yet they remain blind to physical contact. Consequently, they struggle with contact-rich manipulation tasks that require reasoning about force, texture, and slip. While some approaches incorporate low-dimensional tactile signals, they fail to capture the high-resolution dynamics essential for such interactions. To address this limitation, we introduce DreamTacVLA, a framework that grounds VLA models in contact physics by learning to feel the future. Our model adopts a hierarchical perception scheme in which high-resolution tactile images serve as micro-vision inputs coupled with wrist-camera local vision and third-person macro vision. To reconcile these multi-scale sensory streams, we first train a unified policy with a Hierarchical Spatial Alignment (HSA) loss that aligns tactile tokens with their spatial counterparts in the wrist and third-person views. To further deepen the model's understanding of fine-grained contact dynamics, we finetune the system with a tactile world model that predicts future tactile signals. To mitigate tactile data scarcity and the wear-prone nature of tactile sensors, we construct a hybrid large-scale dataset sourced from both high-fidelity digital twin and real-world experiments. By anticipating upcoming tactile states, DreamTacVLA acquires a rich model of contact physics and conditions its actions on both real observations and imagined consequences. Across contact-rich manipulation tasks, it outperforms state-of-the-art VLA baselines, achieving up to 95% success, highlighting the importance of understanding physical contact for robust, touch-aware robotic agents.

The Trinity:Capability-Driven Recursive Self-Improvement for Multimodal Agents

Weidong Tang, Ruiheng Wang, Jingxuan Zhang, Hexin Wang, Haoyuan Chen, Zhengfeiyang Zhang, Yixing Ma, Zichen Jiang 等 20 位作者

Multimodal intelligence can be viewed as human-guided co-evolution between worlds and agents through interaction. However, scaling this process faces two bottlenecks: constructing heterogeneous, verifiable environments is costly, and manual Harness iteration cannot keep pace with growing task diversity and complexity. A key insight is that tasks with different modalities and surface forms can share the same underlying capability requirements. We therefore introduce The Trinity, a recursive self-improvement framework coupling world generation with Harness evolution through three roles: Creator, Explorer, and Evolver. Drawing on verified execution trajectories, Evolver shifts the basis of task organization from surface categories to shared requirements, reorganizing the original task tree into a hierarchical capability tree. We introduce Capability-Driven Real2Sim2Real: for heterogeneous tasks at the same node, Creator abstracts their common requirements into simplified, verifiable simulated worlds for capability learning, while evaluation on original tasks measures transfer. Along this capability tree, Explorer progressively evolves reusable capability modules through selective inheritance, forming a Harness tree whose validated updates accumulate across iterations within a fixed topology. The resulting Harnesses specialize in different capabilities, motivating a Capability-Aware Harness Router that uses public task information to select compatible module configurations from the tree. Our evolved Harnesses improve mean performance by 34 points across 28 training benchmarks and 26 points across 18 unseen benchmarks, including two real-world embodied tasks.

Zero-shot Jianzi Recognition as Structured Visual Information Extraction in Open Compositional Symbolic Systems

Zehan Li Northeastern University, Fu Zhang Northeastern University, Zhijun Liu, Jingwei Cheng Northeastern University, China

Guqin (古琴) Jianzi (減字) is an open and freely compositional tablature system that encodes performance actions rather than acoustic outcomes. Its automatic recognition remains largely unexplored, as conventional OCR assumes a closed and enumerable glyph set and struggles with Jianzi’s unbounded composition and manuscript-level variability. We introduce Zero-shot Jianzi Recognition, which formulates Jianzi recognition as vision-to-sequence prediction of canonical component sequences under a zero-shot split. To enable scalable supervision, we construct Synthetic-JZ from aligned online composition metadata. We then synthesize manuscript-like training images via component-wise style recomposition and manuscript-domain noise modeling, and fine-tune a vision–language model for end-to-end component sequence recognition. At inference time, a lightweight legality-guided correction module re-ranks decoding candidates, suppressing structural hallucinations without modifying the backbone.Experiments on two benchmarks show that our method achieves 63.02% sequence accuracy on Real-JZ, our manually annotated real-world Jianzi benchmark, surpassing Gemini-3-Pro by 35.11%. This result highlights the feasibility of reliable automated Jianzi recognition and its potential for large-scale digitization of historical Guqin Jianzi Pu manuscripts.

Does RLVR Extend Reasoning Boundaries? Investigating Capability Expansion in Vision-Language Models

Minghe Shen, Zhuo Zhi, Chonghan Liu, Shuo Xing Google and Texas A&M University - College Station, Zhengzhong Tu Texas A&M University - College Station, Che Liu

Recent studies posit that Reinforcement Learning with Verifiable Rewards (RLVR) primarily amplifies behaviors inherent to the pre-training distribution rather than inducing new capabilities, but these insights are predominantly limited to language-only domains, leaving the dynamics of visual-centric spatial reasoning under-explored. To examine the impact of RLVR on the capability boundaries of Vision-Language Models (VLMs), we introduce Ariadne, a controlled framework based on synthetic maze navigation where the reasoning difficulty is precisely regulated by path length and the number of turns. We demonstrate that applying RLVR extends the spatial reasoning boundary, achieving success on problems where the base policy VLM consistently attains 0% accuracy despite increasing pass@k sampling budgets, indicating that the optimized policy successfully navigates search spaces that were effectively unreachable by the base distribution. Furthermore, despite being trained exclusively on synthetic mazes, we evaluate the model on two real-world navigation benchmarks (MapBench and ReasonMap) in a zero-shot setting. The observed improvements in these out-of-domain tasks suggest genuine spatial reasoning capability expansion rather than mere sampling efficiency. Our code is available at: https://github.com/MingheShen/Ariadne

ProgressLM: Towards Progress Reasoning in Vision-Language Models

Jianshu Zhang, Chengxuan Qian University of California, Santa Barbara, Haosen Sun, Haoran Lu Northwestern University, Dingcheng Wang Northwestern University, Letian Xue Northwestern University, Northwestern University, Han Liu Northwestern University

Estimating task progress requires long-horizon and dynamic reasoning, going beyond static visual perception. Although Vision-Language Models (VLMs) excel at describing what is visible in a single observation, it remains unclear whether they can infer how far a task has progressed from partial information. To study this question, we introduce Progress-Bench, a benchmark with over 3K instances for evaluating progress reasoning from a single observation. We further examine a human-inspired two-stage paradigm that combines episodic retrieval with mental simulation. We instantiate this paradigm through both training-free prompting and a training-based approach using the automatically curated ProgressLM-45K dataset. Experiments on 14 VLMs show that most models struggle with reliable progress estimation, and that training-free reasoning provides only limited and model-dependent benefits. In contrast, the training-based ProgressLM-3B achieves consistent improvements in accuracy, robustness to viewpoint variation, and handling of unanswerable cases, despite its small scale. Additional analyses reveal common failure patterns in existing VLMs and clarify when and why progress reasoning succeeds or fails.

Forest Before Trees: Latent Superposition for Efficient Visual Reasoning

Yubo Wang, Juntian Zhang, Yichen Wu, Yankai Lin Renmin University of China, Nils Lukas Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, Yuhan Liu Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence

While Chain-of-Thought empowers Large Vision-Language Models with multi-step reasoning, explicit textual rationales suffer from an information bandwidth bottleneck, where continuous visual details are discarded during discrete tokenization. Recent latent reasoning methods attempt to address this challenge, but often fall prey to premature semantic collapse due to rigid autoregressive objectives. In this paper, we propose Laser, a novel paradigm that reformulates visual deduction via Dynamic Windowed Alignment Learning. Instead of forcing a point-wise prediction, Laser aligns the latent state with a dynamic validity window of future semantics. This mechanism enforces a “Forest-before-Trees” cognitive hierarchy, enabling the model to maintain a probabilistic superposition of global features before narrowing down to local details. Crucially, Laser maintains interpretability via decodable trajectories while stabilizing unconstrained learning via Self-Refined Superposition. Extensive experiments on 6 benchmarks demonstrate that Laser achieves state-of-the-art performance among latent reasoning methods, surpassing the strong baseline Monet by 5.03% on average. Notably, it achieves these gains with extreme efficiency, reducing inference tokens by more than 97%, while demonstrating robust generalization to out-of-distribution domains.

From Inheritance to Saturation: Disentangling the Evolution of Visual Redundancy for Architecture-Aware MLLM Inference Acceleration

Jiaqi Shi, Xulong Zhang Ping An Technology (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd., Yuechan Li Wuhan University, Xiaoyang Qu, Jianzong Wang Pingan Technology

High-resolution Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) face prohibitive computational costs during inference due to the explosion of visual tokens. Existing acceleration strategies, such as token pruning or layer sparsity, suffer from severe “backbone dependency”, performing well on Vicuna or Mistral architectures (e.g., LLaVA) but causing significant performance degradation when transferred to architectures like Qwen. To address this, we leverage truncated matrix entropy to uncover a universal three-stage inference lifecycle, decoupling visual redundancy into universal Intrinsic Visual Redundancy (IVR) and architecture-dependent Secondary Saturation Redundancy (SSR). Guided by this insight, we propose HalfV, a framework that first mitigates IVR via a unified pruning strategy and then adaptively handles SSR based on its specific manifestation. Experiments demonstrate that HalfV achieves superior efficiency-performance trade-offs across diverse backbones. Notably, on Qwen25-VL, it retains 96.8% performance at a 4.1\times FLOPs speedup, significantly outperforming state-of-the-art baselines. Our code is available at https://github.com/civilizwa/HalfV.

Semantic Contrastive Adaptation for Multimodal Figurative Language Understanding

Ayaan Siddiqui

Understanding idiomatic and figurative language in images remains a fundamental challenge for vision–language models, as it requires reasoning beyond literal image–text alignment. Although large pretrained models such as CLIP and BLIP-2 perform well on literal recognition, they consistently fail on multimodal figurative benchmarks, often favoring visually salient but semantically literal interpretations. We show that this failure arises from a systematic literal alignment bias rather than limited model capacity. Motivated by this observation, we reformulate multimodal figurative understanding as a contrastive semantic deviation problem, where figurative images must be distinguished from visually plausible literal alternatives. We introduce a parameter-efficient adaptation of CLIP using Low-Rank Adaptation (LoRA) with hard literal negative mining, achieving targeted reshaping of multimodal representations without full fine-tuning. Experiments on the IRFL benchmark across idioms, metaphors, and similes demonstrate substantial improvements over zero-shot CLIP, BLIP- 2, ensemble-based, and knowledge-augmented baselines. Finally, we introduce FIGMENT, a multilingual figurative grounding evaluation spanning five idiom-rich languages, and show that the adapted model generalizes across languages despite being trained exclusively on English supervision.

Group Diffusion: Enhancing Image Generation by Unlocking Cross-Sample Collaboration

Mo, Sicheng, Nguyen, Thao, Zhang, Richard, Kolkin, Nick, Iyer, Siddharth Srinivasan, Shechtman, Eli, Singh, Krishna Kumar, Lee, Yong Jae 等 10 位作者

In this work, we explore an untapped signal in diffusion model inference. While all previous methods generate images independently at inference, we instead ask if samples can be generated collaboratively. We propose Group Diffusion, unlocking the attention mechanism to be shared across images, rather than limited to just the patches within an image. This enables images to be jointly denoised at inference time, learning both intra and inter-image correspondence. We observe a clear scaling effect -- larger group sizes yield stronger cross-sample attention and better generation quality. Furthermore, we introduce a qualitative measure to capture this behavior and show that its strength closely correlates with FID. Built on standard diffusion transformers, our GroupDiff achieves up to 32.2% FID improvement on ImageNet-256x256. Our work reveals cross-sample inference as an effective, previously unexplored mechanism for generative modeling.

Diffusion Multi-modal Large Language Models (dMLLMs) have recently emerged as a novel architecture unifying image generation and understanding. However, developing effective and efficient Test-Time Scaling (TTS) methods to unlock their full generative potential remains an underexplored challenge. To address this, we propose dMLLM-TTS, a novel framework operating on two complementary scaling axes: (1) trajectory exploration scaling to enhance the diversity of generated hypotheses, and (2) iterative refinement scaling for stable generation. Conventional TTS approaches typically perform linear search across these two dimensions, incurring substantial computational costs of O(NT) and requiring an external verifier for best-of-N selection. To overcome these limitations, we propose two innovations. First, we design an efficient hierarchical search algorithm with O(N+T) complexity that adaptively expands and prunes sampling trajectories. Second, we introduce a self-verified feedback mechanism that leverages the dMLLMs' intrinsic image understanding capabilities to assess text-image alignment, eliminating the need for external verifier. Extensive experiments on the GenEval benchmark across three representative dMLLMs (e.g., Lumina-DiMOO, MMaDA, Muddit) show that our framework substantially improves generation quality while achieving up to 6x greater efficiency than linear search.

Looking Beyond the Window: Global-Local Aligned CLIP for Training-free Open-Vocabulary Semantic Segmentation

Lee, ByeongCheol, Seong, Hyun Seok, Hyun, Sangeek, Park, Gilhan, Moon, WonJun, Heo, Jae-Pil

A sliding-window inference strategy is commonly adopted in recent training-free open-vocabulary semantic segmentation methods to overcome limitation of the CLIP in processing high-resolution images. However, this approach introduces a new challenge: each window is processed independently, leading to semantic discrepancy across windows. To address this issue, we propose Global-Local Aligned CLIP (GLA-CLIP), a framework that facilitates comprehensive information exchange across windows. Rather than limiting attention to tokens within individual windows, GLA-CLIP extends key-value tokens to incorporate contextual cues from all windows. Nevertheless, we observe a window bias: outer-window tokens are less likely to be attended, since query features are produced through interactions within the inner window patches, thereby lacking semantic grounding beyond their local context. To mitigate this, we introduce a proxy anchor, constructed by aggregating tokens highly similar to the given query from all windows, which provides a unified semantic reference for measuring similarity across both inner- and outer-window patches. Furthermore, we propose a dynamic normalization scheme that adjusts attention strength according to object scale by dynamically scaling and thresholding the attention map to cope with small-object scenarios. Moreover, GLA-CLIP can be equipped on existing methods and broad their receptive field. Extensive experiments validate the effectiveness of GLA-CLIP in enhancing training-free open-vocabulary semantic segmentation performance. Codes are available at github.com/2btlFe/GLA-CLIP
