MM-VeriAgent: Learning to Use Extensive Tools to Verify Multimodal Misinformation with Reinforcement Learning

Peipei Li, Shuhan Xia, Shengyang Liu, Zekun Li, Ran He

Real-world multimodal misinformation often involves mixed forgery sources, requiring sample-specific detection strategies. Existing tool-augmented methods rely on predefined workflows or inference-time planning, limiting adaptability or increasing inference cost. To address this issue, we introduce \textbf{MM-VeriAgent}, which learns to verify mixed-source multimodal misinformation with tools. We first build \textbf{MM-VeriTools}, a specialized toolkit for misinformation detection agents. By benchmarking various candidate models and methods on the sub-tasks required by mixed-source detection, we select the strongest for textual, visual, and cross-modal forgery analysis and encapsulate them as callable tools with a unified interface. On top of this toolkit, we train the LVLM agent with reinforcement learning to teach it how to use these tools to better solve mixed-source detection. Since many of the tools are specialized models whose online execution at every rollout severely limits RL efficiency, we further introduce \textbf{Tool-Execution Cache}, which pre-executes candidate tool calls and reuses their cached outputs during training. This preserves multi-step rollouts while reducing online tool execution, largely improving the training efficiency.Experiments on MMFakeBench demonstrate substantial accuracy gains over the base model without explicit tool search at inference time. Ablation and efficiency analyses further validate the learned tool-use policy and show that Tool-Execution Cache reduces online tool executions during training.

RDT-3D: Resolution-Decoupled Training for High-Fidelity 3D Geometry Generation

Jiale Zhang, Yang Liu, Chengyang Li, Jin Yuan, Qianxi Jia, Taicheng Huang

High-fidelity 3D geometry generation requires maintaining global structural coherence alongside fine-grained surface details. While recent coarse-to-fine frameworks leverage Rotary Position Embeddings (RoPE) to condition local queries, we reveal a critical training-inference resolution discrepancy: coordinate guidance and geometric supervision are aligned during training, whereas inference decodes high-resolution geometry from coarse spatial coordinates. This mismatch introduces a severe distribution shift that degrades fine details. To overcome this, we propose Resolution-Decoupled Training (RDT), which anchors RoPE guidance at 512 resolution while supervising geometry at 1536, enabling robust detail extrapolation. Additionally, to eliminate high-resolution data bottlenecks, we present Dual3D-300K, a large-scale paired dataset comprising 300K watertight 3D point clouds explicitly aligned across 512 and 1536 resolutions. Extensive experiments demonstrate that RDT substantially improves sharp geometric regions, while Dual3D-300K offers a scalable benchmark for high-resolution 3D generation.

RouTex: Multi-reference 3D Texture Generation by Reprogramming Rotary Position Encoding

Chengyang Li, Yang Liu, Jiale Zhang, Qiang Rao, Wei Zhang, Taicheng Huang

While single-image 3D texture generation has advanced significantly, conditioning texture synthesis on multi-view reference images remains largely under-explored, despite its necessity for resolving surface ambiguity in unobserved regions. In this paper, we propose RouTex, a novel multi-reference 3D texture generation framework based on in-context Diffusion Transformers (DiT). Our key insight is that native 3D Rotary Position Encoding (RoPE) inherently possesses spatial addressing capabilities. We introduce Positional Routing (PR) to reprogram 3D RoPE along spatial and semantic dimensions, establishing explicit reference-to-view correspondence without introducing additional parameters. To execute this routing efficiently, Dual-Granularity Attention (DGA) combines per-view local attention for fine texture fidelity with global joint attention over deduplicated references for cross-view consistency. Extensive experiments demonstrate that RouTex achieves new state-of-the-art performance in multi-reference 3D texture generation.

TAQ-MOTR: Tracking-Aware Detection Query Formation for End-to-End Multiple Object Tracking

Hanyang Liu, Hong Zhang, Ding Yuan, Yang Han, Yifan Yang

Tracking-by-propagation (TBP) methods perform end-to-end multi-object tracking by propagating track queries across frames, jointly handling detection and identity association without heuristic post-processing while naturally modeling temporal information. However, as detection and association are tightly coupled, detection queries in TBP are expected to discover currently untracked objects and provide complementary current-frame evidence for challenging tracks whose queries and identities are retained. Existing methods largely inherit detection-query formation from single-frame detection and construct such queries before the decoder with little awareness of trajectory states. Consequently, currently untracked objects may be missed, while challenging tracked objects with reduced visibility under occlusion may lack complementary evidence, causing association failures or duplicate responses. To address these issues, we propose TAQ-MOTR, a tracking-aware detection query formation framework that employs a pre-decoder Hybrid Query Generator (HQG) to fuse current-frame image features, track memory, and learnable memory. By conditioning detection queries on trajectory states, TAQ-MOTR adapts them to \rev{the discovery of currently untracked objects and tracked-object complementation We further introduce a training-only auxiliary detection branch whose one-to-one label assignment is decoupled from that of the main tracking branch, providing additional detection supervision to strengthen the shared HQG and decoder for the discovery of currently untracked objects. TAQ-MOTR improves performance on DanceTrack, SportsMOT, and BFT, achieving 72.0 HOTA, 63.1 AssA, and 76.6 IDF1 on the DanceTrack test set. Code is available at https://github.com/Magicmiya/TAQ-MOTR

SphereFlow: Missing Modality Imputation via Geometric Transport on Hypersphere

Huihan Wang, Juncheng Wang, Yuxiang Feng, Wenlong Hou, Guoqi Yu, Chao Xu, Yang Liu, Baigui Sun 等 9 位作者

Missing modality imputation aims to synthesize unobserved modalities from observed ones. Existing methods treat each modality as living on its own latent manifold, forcing the generator to learn a long, unstructured jump between them. We present SphereFlow, which takes a fundamentally different view: by projecting all modalities into a shared hyperspherical latent space via a frozen self-supervised encoder, cross-modal imputation reduces to short-range geometric transport between nearby points on the sphere. Realizing this idea with flow matching, however, exposes two geometric conflicts: the standard Gaussian noise source is catastrophically mismatched with the unit-norm data manifold, and the linear interpolation path departs the sphere surface into a region where the decoder has no training signal. We resolve both with simple, geometry-aware modifications: replacing the noise source with the observed-modality latent so that the velocity field learns only the cross-modal displacement, and training the decoder with a time-weighted loss that extends its domain to the near-surface region traversed by the flow. We prove that this data-as-source formulation reduces the worst-case off-manifold deviation from a quantity that grows with the latent dimension to a small, dimension-independent bound governed by inter-modality similarity. Experiments on BraTS multi-modal MRI imputation and CT-MRI translation demonstrate state-of-the-art generation fidelity across all settings, while downstream brain tumor segmentation with our imputed data closes roughly eighty percent of the gap to the full-modality oracle. Agentic AI in medicine: architectures, applications, evaluation, and challenges for clinical translation

Wanshu Fan, Zheng Tong, Yang Liu, Jing Qin, Zhongbin Han, Haifan Gong, Congyu Liao, Xiaofeng Liu 等 9 位作者

Large language models and multimodal foundation models are enabling medical artificial intelligence (AI) systems to move beyond isolated prediction and undertake multistep clinical tasks that require planning, tool use, memory, iterative correction, and coordination among specialized agents. However, the scope of agentic AI in medicine remains unsettled, and current evaluation practices are not yet aligned with the requirements of clinical use. We conducted a scoping review with systematic evidence mapping across five electronic sources, screened 1,649 exportable records, and provisionally included 557 unique studies that met predefined criteria for goal-directed task execution, tool use, interaction with external resources, feedback-based refinement, or multi-agent collaboration. The included studies describe single agents that use external tools, workflows supported by retrieval and external knowledge, multimodal agents, and multi-agent systems applied to medical question answering, image interpretation, electronic health record analysis, drug safety, and clinical trial prediction. The evidence base remains dominated by public benchmarks, simulated settings, retrospective datasets, and small-scale expert evaluation. Process reliability, evidence traceability, uncertainty, safety, workflow impact, and external validity are evaluated less consistently. Clinical translation will depend on clearer definitions, reproducible evaluation, auditable oversight, interoperable system design, and prospective validation in real-world clinical workflows.

TCINet: Tissue-Conditioned Adaptive Cross-Branch Interaction Network for Nuclei Instance Segmentation

Zhenghang Qian, Yang Liu, Yanzhi Yu, Peiwu Qin, Yibing Shen, Joongwon Chae, Lihui Luo, Zhongde Zhang 等 10 位作者

Separating touching nuclei requires local boundary detail, while cell type classification requires broader morphological context. These requirements also vary with the surrounding tissue environment. We propose the Tissue-Conditioned Adaptive Cross-Branch Interaction Network (TCINet), a single-stage model with Task-Specific Feature Adapters (TSFA) and Tissue-Conditioned Task-Aware Cross-Branch Interaction (TC-TACBI). TSFA produces branch-specific features at skip connections, and TC-TACBI controls three asymmetric paths among nucleus-presence (NP), horizontal-vertical (HV), and nucleus-type (NT) branches using predicted tissue probabilities. On PanNuke under standard three-fold cross-validation, TCINet achieves multiclass and binary panoptic quality scores of 0.519 and 0.692, respectively. Zero-shot tests on MoNuSeg yield a detection F1 score of 0.876. On PanNuke fold 0, adding TC-TACBI increases mPQ from 0.505 to 0.525. Code is available at https://github.com/celestial1321/TCINet.

Fine-grained Motion Retrieval via Joint-Angle Motion Images and Token-Patch Late Interaction

Yao Zhang, Zhuchenyang Liu, Yalan He, Thomas Ploetz, Yu Xiao

Text-motion retrieval aims to learn a semantically aligned latent space between natural language descriptions and 3D human motion skeleton sequences, enabling bidirectional search across the two modalities. Most existing methods use a dual-encoder framework that compresses motion and text into global embeddings, discarding fine-grained local correspondences, and thus reducing accuracy. Additionally, these global-embedding methods offer limited interpretability of the retrieval results. To overcome these limitations, we propose an interpretable, joint-angle-based motion representation that maps joint-level local features into a structured pseudo-image, compatible with pre-trained Vision Transformers. For text-to-motion retrieval, we employ MaxSim, a token-wise late interaction mechanism, and enhance it with Masked Language Modeling regularization to foster robust, interpretable text-motion alignment. Extensive experiments on HumanML3D and KIT-ML show that our method outperforms state-of-the-art text-motion retrieval approaches while offering interpretable fine-grained correspondences between text and motion. The code is available in the supplementary material.

PixelBench: Can LLMs Understand and Generate Images Pixel by Pixel?

Haoquan Zhang, Feiyang Liu, Juanxi Tian, Wanhua Li, Haodong Duan, Weiyang Liu

Large language models (LLMs) can generate visual assets through text-based formats such as SVG and CAD, but these symbolic representations describe images using high-level primitives rather than explicit raster values. We ask whether LLMs can instead generate pixel images directly through their existing vocabulary, without a learned image tokenizer or decoder. We introduce PixelBench, a benchmark for text-to-pixel (T2P) and image-to-pixel (I2P) generation across multiple resolutions, together with a complementary pixel-understanding evaluation. Models generate an RGB color palette followed by a grid of indices specifying the palette color of each output pixel. In T2P, the strongest models produce recognizable images directly from text. In I2P, the strongest models outperform palette-matched downsampling and specialized pixelization algorithms at low resolutions. Pixel-understanding performance correlates strongly with generation performance. A resolution-scaling study shows that pixel-generation performance often improves initially before declining at high resolutions. Finally, we introduce Pixel Reconstruction Tuning (PRT), which augments visual instruction tuning with caption-palette-grid trajectories. We post-train Molmo2-4B from its pretraining checkpoint by mixing general instruction data with our curated PRT data, improving performance across 16 visual-centric benchmarks, indicating that explicit pixel reconstruction can provide useful auxiliary supervision.

RIFLE: Removal of Image Flicker-Banding via Latent Diffusion Enhancement

Libo Zhu, Zihan Zhou, Xiaoyang Liu, Weihang Zhang, Keyu Shi, Yifan Fu, Yulun Zhang

Capturing screens is now routine in our everyday lives. But the photographs of emissive displays are often influenced by the flicker-banding (FB), which is alternating bright-dark stripes that arise from temporal aliasing between a camera's rolling-shutter readout and the display's brightness modulation. Unlike moire degradation, which has been extensively studied, the FB remains underexplored despite its frequent and severe impact on readability and perceived quality. We formulate FB removal as a dedicated restoration task and introduce Removal of Image Flicker-Banding via Latent Diffusion Enhancement, RIFLE, a diffusion-based framework designed to remove FB while preserving fine details. We propose the flicker-banding prior estimator (FPE) that predicts key banding attributes and injects it into the restoration network. Additionally, Masked Loss (ML) is proposed to concentrate supervision on banded regions without sacrificing global fidelity. To overcome data scarcity, we provide a simulation pipeline that synthesizes FB in the luminance domain with stochastic jitter in banding angle, banding spacing, and banding width. Feathered boundaries and sensor noise are also applied for a more realistic simulation. For evaluation, we collect a paired real-world FB dataset with pixel-aligned banding-free references captured via long exposure. Across quantitative metrics and visual comparisons on our real-world dataset, RIFLE consistently outperforms recent image reconstruction baselines from mild to severe flicker-banding. To the best of our knowledge, it is the first work to research the simulation and removal of FB. Our work establishes a great foundation for subsequent research in both the dataset construction and the removal model design. Our dataset and code will be released soon.

Localizing Concepts in Visual Autoregressive Models

Nanxiang Jiang, Yang Liu, Yuanhao Wang, Min Xu

Understanding the internal routing of visual concepts is crucial for the safe and controllable adaptation of generative models. While concept localization has been widely studied in diffusion models, the emerging paradigm of next-scale visual autoregressive models remains largely unexplored. In this paper, we introduce LoCo, the first model-agnostic framework to localize where and when specific concepts emerge within autoregressive models. Driven by the native coarse-to-fine nature of next-scale generation, our method precisely maps conceptual knowledge across three distinct dimensions: Layer, Scale, and Position. To systematically localize and evaluate concept routing without context bias, we propose LoCoBench, a comprehensive dataset spanning 10 diverse categories. Extensive probing on image and video autoregressive models like Infinity, HunyuanImage-3.0, and InfinityStar shows that the localized positions are both interpretable and causally related to concept emergence. Building on these insights, we apply our localization method to three key applications: concept erasure, model personalization, and adversarial concept injection. Experiments demonstrate that our targeted intervention achieves state-of-the-art performance, substantially reducing computational overhead while preserving benign utility. Overall, our findings offer insights into how conceptual knowledge is routed during autoregressive generation, introducing a practical pathway for more interpretable, efficient, and secure adaptation.

A generalizable structural brain MRI foundation model via dual-priority federated pretraining

Zhen Yu, Yang Liu, Jianfeng Feng, Xiahai Zhuang, Qingchao Chen

Foundation models hold promise for generalizable analysis of structural brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans across diverse populations and imaging conditions. However, existing models typically rely on centralized pretraining using data pooled across cohorts, which is constrained by privacy and data-governance requirements. Moreover, larger cohorts can dominate optimization, underutilizing anatomical information from smaller cohorts and limiting generalization. Here we present BrainFedFM, a structural brain MRI foundation model federatively pretrained on 164,707 three-dimensional scans drawn from diverse real-world data distributions and organized across 42 federated sites. BrainFedFM uses dual-priority federated pretraining, in which spatial-priority masking emphasizes informative anatomical regions during local training, while site-priority aggregation adaptively weights contributions during global aggregation. Across 20 downstream datasets spanning 17 classification, regression and segmentation tasks, BrainFedFM achieved the state-of-the-art performance across seven foundation models, including four centralized models, while showing consistent advantages in classification and regression tasks and strong robustness under underrepresented populations and challenging imaging conditions. These findings demonstrate the generalizability of BrainFedFM and highlight federated pretraining as a practical strategy for developing neuroimaging foundation models from distributed data without pooling raw images.

NTR: Neural Token Reconstruction for Scene Token Bottleneck in End-to-End Driving

Jiahui Li, Jiawei Sun, Zixiang Ren, Ming Liu, Jiamin Shi, Ruiteng Zhao, Zhiyang Liu, Liying Liu 等 10 位作者

Recent perception-free end-to-end (E2E) autonomous driving methods bypass explicit perception outputs by compressing dense image patch tokens into compact scene tokens for downstream trajectory generation and scoring. While these scene tokens form a compact visual bottleneck for the planner, they receive supervision solely from the planning objective, providing limited constraints on the encoded visual information. To address this limitation, we introduce Neural Token Reconstruction (NTR), a representation learning framework to directly constrain the compact scene-token bottleneck in perception-free driving. NTR introduces a self-distillation masked latent reconstruction objective that reconstructs masked patch-level latent features using only compact scene tokens as reconstruction memory. This forces reconstruction gradients to pass exclusively through the scene-token bottleneck, encouraging scene tokens to preserve richer and less redundant visual representations for planning. We further introduce semantic priors derived from foundation-model annotations as a weak semantic interface biasing reconstruction targets toward driving-related structures without introducing explicit perception heads. All auxiliary reconstruction components are removed at inference time, leaving the deployed planner unchanged. NTR achieves state-of-the-art performance on three public autonomous driving benchmarks, including 8.0461 RFS on Waymo E2E and 94.1 PDMS / 90.9 EPDMS on NavSim1&2. The learned scene tokens exhibit lower pairwise redundancy and higher effective rank, indicating that effective bottleneck supervision improves both compact visual representation learning and planning performance.

GAUGE: Group-Wise View-Inconsistency Rectification for Feed-Forward 4D Tracking

Zhuoqian Feng, Weixing Chen, Ziliang Chen, Yang Liu, Liang Lin

Feed-forward models regress dense 3D point trajectories directly from monocular video, yet the residual after global alignment is substantial and lacks a structural explanation. Measured on dynamic query points across models and datasets, the error concentrates along the view direction, while the scale correction each motion group requires differs. The predicted displacement direction nevertheless supports reliable grouping, with a median angle far below the 90° random baseline. The systematic part of the residual is therefore a family of radial degrees of freedom per motion group, along directions 2D observations cannot constrain. We call it group-wise view inconsistency. We present GAUGE (Group-wise Adaptive Unsupervised Gauge Estimation), a training-free and model-agnostic post-hoc module. It recovers motion groups from direction consistency and spatial connectivity, then estimates a per-frame radial scale and group-level translation from 1% to 5% metric anchors, four degrees of freedom per group and frame. On dynamic query points of eight trackers, including D4RT, 4RC and SM4RT, our correction lowers endpoint error by 15.1% to 62.6% over the uncorrected predictions, while spending the same anchors on gradient fine-tuning improves the same models by only -1.1% to 15.2%. Code is publicly available at https://github.com/HCPLab-SYSU/GAUGE.

DART: Differentiable Dynamic Adaptive Region Tokenizer for Vision Foundation Models

Shicheng Yin, Kaixuan Yin, Yang Liu, Weixing Chen, Liang Lin

The content-agnostic, fixed-grid tokenizers used by standard large-scale vision models like Vision Transformer (ViT) and Vision Mamba (Vim) represent a fundamental performance bottleneck, creating a trade-off between capturing fine-grained detail and suffering from redundant computation. To resolve this dilemma, we introduce DART, a fully differentiable Dynamic Adaptive Region Tokenizer. DART employs learnable region scores and quantile-based partitioning to create content-aware patches of varying sizes, intelligently allocating a higher token density to information-rich regions. The impact of this approach is profound: it unlocks a more intelligent scaling paradigm, where a DART-equipped DeiT-Small (22M parameters) matches the performance of a DeiT-Base (86M) with nearly double the inference speed by efficiently capturing high-resolution details in key regions. Furthermore, the principle of adaptive tokenization proves its generality with clear benefits in dense prediction and spatiotemporal video tasks. We argue that by resolving the tokenizer bottleneck at its source, adaptive tokenization is a key component for building the next generation of more efficient and capable foundation models for multimodal AI, robotics, and content generation. Code is available at https://github.com/HCPLab-SYSU/DART.

A Cross-Modal Prompt Injection Attack against Large Vision-Language Models with Image-Only Perturbation

Hao Yang, Zhuo Ma, Yang Liu, Yilong Yang, Guancheng Wang, JianFeng Ma

Large vision-language models (LVLMs) have emerged as a powerful paradigm for multimodal intelligence, but their growing deployment also expands the attack surface of prompt injection. Despite this growing concern, existing attacks still suffer from a critical limitation: the injected prompt for one modality only steers the model's interpretation of that singular input. Alternatively, these attacks remain multimodal but fail to achieve cross-modal prompt perturbation. To bridge this gap, we introduce a novel cross-modal prompt injection attack CrossMPI, which can steer the model's interpretation of both textual and visual inputs via image-only prompt injection. Our design is underpinned by the following key breakthroughs. First, we turn the focus of the injected prompt perturbation optimization from the visual embedding space (typically with only $10^5$ parameters) to the model hidden state space (for multimodal information integration and with $10^7$ parameters). Then, two strategies are adopted to mitigate the optimization challenges posed by the larger parameter space. To constrain the optimized model parameter space, we introduce a layer selection strategy that identifies the layers most critical to multimodal integration. Interestingly, deviating from the past experience, our analysis reveals that the optimal layers for LVLM prompt perturbation reside in the middle of the model rather than the last. To constrain the image perturbation space, we propose a new distance-decremental perturbation budget assignment strategy that allocates budgets decrementally as the pixel distance to semantic-critical regions increases. Extensive experiments across multiple LVLMs and datasets show that our method significantly outperforms baseline approaches.

MASFactory: A Graph-centric Framework for Orchestrating LLM-Based Multi-Agent Systems with Vibe Graphing

Yang Liu, Jinxuan Cai, Yishen Li, Qi Meng Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Zedi Liu, Xin Li Free Org., Chen Qian Shanghai Jiaotong University, Chuan Shi Beijing University of Post and Telecommunication 等 9 位作者

Large language model-based (LLM-based) multi-agent systems (MAS) are increasingly used to extend agentic problem solving via role specialization and collaboration. MAS workflows can be naturally modeled as directed computation graphs, where nodes execute agents or sub-workflows and edges encode dependencies and message passing. However, implementing complex graph workflows in current frameworks still requires substantial manual effort, offers limited reuse, and makes it difficult to integrate heterogeneous external context sources. To overcome these limitations, we present MASFactory, a graph-centric framework for orchestrating LLM-based MAS. It introduces Vibe Graphing, a human-in-the-loop approach that compiles natural-language intent into an editable workflow specification and then into an executable graph. In addition, the framework provides reusable components, skill support, multimodal message handling, and pluggable context integration, as well as a visualizer for topology preview, runtime tracing, and human-in-the-loop interaction. We evaluate MASFactory on seven public benchmarks, validating both reproduction consistency for representative MAS methods and the effectiveness of Vibe Graphing. Our code (https://github.com/BUPT-GAMMA/MASFactory, licensed under Apache-2.0) and video demonstration (https://youtu.be/ANynzVfY32k) are publicly available.

While Vision-Language Models (VLMs) have significantly advanced Computer-Using Agents (CUAs), current agentic frameworks struggle with robustness in novel domains and long-horizon workflows due to the absence of visual-aware tutorial retrieval and the lack of granular control over historical visual context curation and pruning. To bridge these gaps, we introduce OS-Symphony, a holistic framework that comprises an Orchestrator coordinating two key innovations for robust automation: (1) a Reflection-Memory Agent that utilizes milestone-driven long-term memory to enable trajectory-level self-correction, effectively mitigating visual context loss in long-horizon tasks; (2) Versatile Tool Agents featuring a Multimodal Searcher that adopts a “SeeAct” paradigm to navigate a browser-based sandbox to synthesize live, visually aligned tutorials, thereby resolving fidelity issues in unseen scenarios. Experimental results demonstrate that OS-Symphony delivers substantial performance gains across varying model scales, establishing new state-of-the-art results on three online benchmarks, notably achieving 65.84% on OSWorld. All research assets will be made publicly available.

MMTutorBench: The First Multimodal Benchmark for AI Math Tutoring

Tengchao Yang, Sichen Guo, Mengzhao Jia, Jiaming Su, Yuanyang Liu, Zhihan Zhang Amazon, Meng Jiang University of Notre Dame

Effective math tutoring requires not only solving problems but also diagnosing students’ difficulties and guiding them step by step. While multimodal large language models (MLLMs) show promise, existing benchmarks largely overlook these tutoring skills. We introduce MMTutorBench, the first benchmark for AI math tutoring, consisting of 770 problems built around pedagogically significant key-steps. Each problem is paired with problem-specific rubrics that enable fine-grained evaluation across six dimensions, and structured into three tasks—Insight Discovery, Operation Formulation, and Operation Execution. We evaluate 12 leading MLLMs and find clear performance gaps between proprietary and open-source systems, substantial room compared to human tutors, and consistent trends across input variants: OCR pipelines degrade tutoring quality, few-shot prompting yields limited gains, and our rubric-based LLM-as-a-Judge proves highly reliable. These results highlight both the difficulty and diagnostic value of MMTutorBench for advancing AI tutoring.

MARS-RA: Rank Aggregation for Credit Assignment via Multimodal Comparisons in Embodied Multi-Agent Cooperation

Dawei Wang, Di Zhao University of Auckland, Xinyuan Liu, Marci Chi Ma Newcastle University, UK, Xiaoyang Liu Newcastle University, UK, Chengming Zhou, Gary Ushaw Newcastle University, UK, Richard Davison University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne

Credit assignment is a fundamental challenge in cooperative multi-agent reinforcement learning, particularly in embodied AI settings characterized by limited and delayed feedback as well as dynamically changing numbers of active agents. We propose MARS-RA, a framework that reformulates credit assignment as a rank aggregation problem using contribution-based pairwise comparisons among agents generated by large multimodal models. This shift from absolute to relative estimation ensures robustness against noise and dynamic agent participation, converting comparison results into contribution scores for potential-based reward shaping. We provide theoretical justification for the convergence and robustness of the proposed framework, and show that Shapley values can be used as an interpretive reference. Experimental results on challenging tasks of different types indicate that MARS-RA can guide agents toward effective cooperation.

Video temporal understanding is crucial for multimodal large language models (MLLMs) to reason over events in videos. Despite recent advances in general video understanding, current MLLMs still struggle with fine-grained temporal reasoning. While reinforcement learning (RL) has been explored to address this issue recently, existing RL approaches remain limited in performance on time-sensitive tasks. In this work, we propose MUSEG, a novel RL-based method that enhances temporal understanding by introducing timestamp-aware multi-segment grounding. MUSEG enables MLLMs to align queries with multiple relevant video segments, promoting more comprehensive temporal reasoning. To facilitate effective learning, we design a customized RL training recipe with phased rewards that progressively guides the model toward temporally grounded reasoning. Extensive experiments on temporal grounding and time-sensitive video question answering (QA) tasks demonstrate that MUSEG significantly outperforms existing methods and generalizes well across diverse temporal understanding scenarios.

Vision-Language-Action models have recently emerged as a powerful paradigm for general-purpose robot learning, enabling agents to map visual observations and natural-language instructions into executable robotic actions. Though popular, they are primarily trained via supervised fine-tuning or training-time reinforcement learning, requiring explicit fine-tuning phases, human interventions, or controlled data collection. Consequently, existing methods remain unsuitable for challenging simulated- or physical-world deployments, where robots must respond autonomously and flexibly to evolving environments. To address this limitation, we introduce a Test-Time Reinforcement Learning for VLAs (TT-VLA), a framework that enables on-the-fly policy adaptation during inference. TT-VLA formulates a dense reward mechanism that leverages step-by-step task-progress signals to refine action policies during test time while preserving the SFT/RL-trained priors, making it an effective supplement to current VLA models. Empirical results show that our approach enhances overall adaptability, stability, and task success in dynamic, previously unseen scenarios under simulated and real-world settings. We believe TT-VLA offers a principled step toward self-improving, deployment-ready VLAs.

Correct When Paired, Wrong When Split: Decoupling and Editing Modality-Specific Neurons in MLLMs

Although Knowledge Editing provides an efficient mechanism for updating the knowledge of Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs), we find that current paradigms still suffer from an important yet remain underexplored issue : editing decoupling failure, where entity-related knowledge can be updated when the model is triggered by multimodal inputs (text–image query pairs), however, it often reverts to outdated pre-edit facts when the paired inputs are split into unimodal ones. Our in-depth empirical analysis reveals that the entity knowledge in MLLMs is not stored as a unified representation, but is instead distributed across disentangled modality-specific pathways. As a result, updates biased toward multimodal queries fail to propagate effectively to unimodal circuits. To bridge this gap, we propose DECODE, which explicitly disentangles and localizes modality-specific neuron groups for targeted knowledge. Extensive experiments demonstrate that DECODE consistently achieves effective knowledge updates under different modality triggers, thereby mitigating editing decoupling failures.

Understanding complete musical scores entails integrated reasoning over pitch, rhythm, harmony, and large-scale structure, yet the ability of Large Language Models and Vision–Language Models to interpret full musical notation remains insufficiently examined. We introduce Musical Score Understanding Benchmark (MSU-Bench), a human-curated benchmark for score-level musical understanding across textual (ABC notation) and visual (PDF) modalities. MSU-Bench contains 1,800 generative question–answer pairs from works by Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Debussy, and others, organised into four levels of increasing difficulty, ranging from onset information to texture and form. Evaluations of more than fifteen state-of-the-art models, in both zero-shot and fine-tuned settings, reveal pronounced modality gaps, unstable level-wise performance, and challenges in maintaining multilevel correctness. Fine-tuning substantially improves results across modalities while preserving general knowledge, positioning MSU-Bench as a robust foundation for future research in multimodal reasoning. The benchmark and code are available at https://github.com/Congren-Dai/MSU-Bench.

We introduce SPUR, a comprehensive benchmark for scientific experimental image perception, understanding, and reasoning, comprising 4,264 question-answering (QA) pairs derived from 1,084 expert-curated images. SPUR features three key innovations: (1) Panel-Level Fine-Grained Perception: evaluating the visual perception of multimodal large language models (MLLMs) across three dimensions (numerical, morphological, and information localization) on six fine-grained panel types; (2) Cross-Panel Relation Understanding: utilizing complex images with an average of 14.3 panels per sample to evaluate MLLMs’ ability to decipher intricate cross-panel relations; (3) Expert-Level Reasoning: assessment of qualitative and quantitative reasoning across five experimental paradigms to determine if models can infer conclusions from evidence as human experts do. Comprehensive evaluation of 20 MLLMs and four multimodal Chain-of-Thought (MCoT) methods reveals that current models fall significantly short of the expert-level requirements for scientific image interpretation, underscoring a critical bottleneck in AI for Science (AI4S) research.

MultiFinBen: Benchmarking Large Language Models for Multilingual and Multimodal Financial Application

Real-world financial analysis involves information across multiple languages and modalities, from reports and news to scanned filings and meeting recordings. Yet most existing evaluations of LLMs in finance remain text-only, monolingual, and largely saturated by current models. To bridge these gaps, we present MultiFinBen, the first expert-annotated multilingual (five languages) and multimodal (text, vision, audio) benchmark for evaluating LLMs in realistic financial contexts. MultiFinBen introduces two new task families: multilingual financial reasoning, which tests cross-lingual evidence integration from filings and news, and financial OCR, which extracts structured text from scanned documents containing tables and charts. Rather than aggregating all available datasets, we apply a structured, difficulty-aware selection based on advanced model performance, ensuring balanced challenge and removing redundant tasks. Evaluating 21 leading LLMs shows that even frontier multimodal models like GPT-4o achieve only 46.01% overall, stronger on vision and audio but dropping sharply in multilingual settings. These findings expose persistent limitations in multilingual, multimodal, and expert-level financial reasoning. All datasets, evaluation scripts, and leaderboards are publicly released.

Community-Aware Assessment of Social Textual Engagement and Resonance: A Human-Centric Perspective on User-Generated Content Evaluation

Tianjiao Li, Kai Zhao Bilibili, Xiang Li Bilibili, Yang Liu, Huyang Sun Bilibili

Traditional Video Quality Assessment (VQA) focuses narrowly on aesthetic fidelity, overlooking the complex social dynamics that define quality in User-Generated Content (UGC). In this work, we propose a paradigm shift from signal-centric metrics to human-centric resonance assessment. We introduce CASTER (Community-Aware Assessment of Social Textual Engagement and Resonance), a new task that evaluates whether a UGC item achieves positive community resonance based on its multimodal attributes rather than visual quality alone. To address this, we present MEDEA (Multimodal Engagement-Driven Evaluation Architecture), which introduces a novel Social Chain-of-Thought (Social-CoT) mechanism. Unlike traditional logical CoT, Social-CoT performs multimodal perspective-taking, instantiating diverse viewer personas to simulate collective cognitive and emotional reactions (i.e., the “community mind”) before deriving a quality judgment. MEDEA is trained via a two-stage approach involving supervised fine-tuning and process-supervised reinforcement learning with Social Alignment Reward to ensure reasoning paths are grounded in authentic human social cognition. To support this task, we release CASTER-Bench, a comprehensive human-annotated benchmark covering diverse UGC categories. Experiments demonstrate that MEDEA significantly outperforms state-of-the-art baselines on CASTER-Bench while providing interpretable and empathetic reasoning paths that align with real community feedback.
