tok: a textual concrete syntax of BPMN and DMN for humans and AI agents

Marek Deja

原文摘要

tok is a plain-text notation for Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) 2.0.2 process models and Decision Model and Notation (DMN) 1.5 decisions. One engine checks a tok document against both standards, compiles the document to XML with an automatic diagram, and serves language-model applications through the Model Context Protocol. The paper classifies the notation as an alternative concrete syntax of the BPMN and DMN metamodels and reports one study. A tok model takes 2.2 times fewer tokens than the smallest BPMN XML of 893 files exported by 37 tools and 7.7 times fewer than the files as exported. The checker signals 98.2% of 1,411 injected faults, against 85.8% for the XML Schema with bpmnlint. Four language models new to tok write valid tok from a one-page reference for 85.7 to 100% of 87 process descriptions from two datasets and valid BPMN XML for every description, and the strongest model writes tok with 25% and 19% fewer tokens than BPMN XML. As agents with a lean skill and one checker tool, the models write valid tok for 97.6 to 100% of the descriptions, the strongest model spends 21% and 14% fewer tokens on tok than on BPMN XML, and a skill which sends the model to read the reference through a tool costs 1.7 to 2.8 times the tokens of the lean skill. Of 47 event logs simulated from public models, 44 fit their source models, and tok imports every model discovered from the logs.

Your Neighbors Know: Leveraging Local Neighborhoods for Backdoor Detection in Decentralized Learning

原文摘要

Decentralized learning (DL) is an emerging machine learning paradigm where nodes collaboratively train models without a central server. However, the collaborative nature of DL makes it vulnerable to backdoor attacks, where a model is taught to behave normally on standard inputs while executing hidden, malicious actions when encountering data with specific triggers. Backdoor attacks in DL remain understudied and existing defenses often overlook DL constraints. We introduce Argus, a novel backdoor detection framework native to DL that requires neither a central coordinator nor prior knowledge of the trigger. In Argus, honest nodes locally analyze received model updates to identify potential backdoor triggers. Nodes then collectively share their triggers with their neighbors and use a structural similarity metric to separate true backdoors from false alarms induced by data heterogeneity. A key insight is that false positive triggers exhibit inconsistencies across participants while true positive ones show consistent patterns. Model updates that fail this collaborative test are rejected, and persistently malicious senders are eventually evicted. We provide the first theoretical convergence guarantees for a DL-specific backdoor detection mechanism, showing that filtering out suspicious model updates with high probability preserves a convergence rate comparable to standard DL. We implement and evaluate Argus on three standard datasets and against three state-of-the-art baselines. Across settings, Argus reduces attack success rates by up to 90 points compared to no defense, while preserving model utility within 5 percentage points of an omniscient oracle. Furthermore, the effectiveness of Argus compared to baselines improves as data heterogeneity increases.

IDPrior: Decoupling Identity Generation from Facial Image Synthesis

Fadi Boutros, Meriç Demirörs, Darian Tomašević, Vitomir Štruc, Naser Damer

原文摘要

Large-scale identity-labeled face datasets are essential for training modern face recognition models, yet collecting and annotating such data is costly and raises privacy and ethical concerns. Existing synthetic face generation methods typically derive identities from predefined class labels, unconditional image generation, or predefined latent sampling strategies, without explicitly modeling the underlying distribution of facial identities. In this paper, we propose IDPrior, a two-stage framework that decouples identity generation from image synthesis. We first learn a diffusion prior in the embedding space of a pretrained face recognition model to model the distribution of facial identities and generate novel identity embeddings. These embeddings are then used to condition a pretrained identity-conditioned diffusion model (DM), enabling the synthesis of multiple images of the same identity. This modular design provides a scalable approach to identity generation while remaining compatible with existing and future identity-conditioned DMs. Experiments indicate that IDPrior generates diverse and well-separated identities while maintaining a closer correspondence to the distribution of authentic identities. Face recognition models trained on datasets generated using IDPrior-generated identities achieve competitive or improved performance compared with existing synthetic-data-based methods across multiple face verification benchmarks. Code and generated datasets are publicly available at https://github.com/fdbtrs/IDperturb.

原文摘要

Background: Cardiovascular care generates large volumes of clinical free-text documentation in local languages. However, clinical natural language processing (NLP) resources remain concentrated in English, and no existing benchmark is cardiology-specific, multilingual, and broad in entity coverage. Methods: We present two contributions. The first is CardioCCC, a corpus of 508 cardiology case reports originally published in Spanish and extended to Czech, Dutch, English, Italian, Romanian, and Swedish through machine translation, annotation projection, and clinician review, with annotations covering diseases, symptoms, procedures, and medications. The second is CardioLM, comprising CardioBERTa, a set of language-specific encoders obtained by continued pretraining on cardiology and biomedical corpora, and CardioNER, a set of named entity recognition (NER) models fine-tuned on CardioCCC. Results: Cardiology-specific pretraining reduced pseudo-perplexity by up to a factor of eight, yet changed strict span-level F1 by at most 0.04, with benefits concentrated in languages whose backbones lacked biomedical coverage. The jointly trained multilingual XLM-RoBERTa-large models achieved the best strict F1 in nearly every language and entity type, exceeding the strongest monolingual system by up to 0.13 F1. A large share of residual errors concerned boundary detection: relaxed matching recovered 0.10-0.23 F1 for disease, procedure, and symptom, but only 0.01-0.07 for medication. Clinicians rated CardioNER well above a rule- and dictionary-based baseline, with the mean rating across entity types rising from 26% to 73%. Conclusions: Specialty-specific pretraining is not the decisive factor for downstream entity recognition, whereas multilingual joint training yields the strongest results in nearly all settings and a simpler deployment path for multi-country clinical information extraction.

WAM-Sim0.1: World Anchored Memory Meets Online RL for Consistent and Realistic Driving Simulation

原文摘要

Autoregressive driving world models systematically suffer from structural drift, identity drift, and quality decay over long rollout horizons due to transient conditioning signals that lack persistent state. We present WAM-Sim, a driving world model anchored by a persistent hierarchical memory and optimized via online flow-matching RL. WAM-Sim structures persistent context across three temporal and semantic scales: pose-aligned structural tokens encoding persistent road topology, read-only scene tokens supplying geolocated background appearance, and write-once instance tokens preserving individual traffic participant identities across occlusions and chunk boundaries. To restore visual sharpness and physical plausibility degraded by multi-scale conditioning, we introduce an online post-training framework that optimizes self-generated rollouts via flow-matching RL guided by hierarchy-aligned visual rewards and a vision-language model physical judge. The invariant memory empirically confines policy optimization within the anchored context, helping suppress semantic collapse and reward hacking, while online RL systematically enforces physical commonsense and fine-grained visual fidelity. On the nuScenes benchmark, WAM-Sim achieves a superior generation fidelity (FID=3.47, FVD=25.72) and strong downstream perception performance (24.16 mAP, 71.23 road mIoU). On minute-scale rollouts of self-collected data, WAM-Sim substantially mitigates structural and identity drift, preserving high scene similarity and subject identity coherence across extended horizons. AgentSelect: Benchmark for Narrative Query-to-Agent Recommendation

原文摘要

LLM agents are rapidly becoming the practical interface for task automation, yet the ecosystem lacks a principled way to choose among an exploding space of deployable configurations. Existing LLM leaderboards and tool/agent benchmarks evaluate components in isolation and remain fragmented across tasks, metrics, and candidate pools, leaving a critical research gap: there is little query-conditioned supervision for learning to recommend end-to-end agent configurations that couple a backbone model with a toolkit. We address this gap with AgentSelect, a benchmark that reframes agent selection as narrative query-to-agent recommendation over capability profiles and systematically converts heterogeneous evaluation artifacts into unified, positive-only interaction data. AgentSelectcomprises 111,179 queries, 107,721 deployable agents, and 251,103 interaction records aggregated from 40+ sources, spanning LLM-only, toolkit-only, and compositional agents. Our analyses reveal a regime shift from dense head reuse to long-tail, near one-off supervision, where popularity-based CF/GNN methods become fragile and content-aware capability matching is essential. We further show that Part~III synthesized compositional interactions are learnable, induce capability-sensitive behavior under controlled counterfactual edits, and improve coverage over realistic compositions; models trained on AgentSelect also transfer to a public agent marketplace (MuleRun), yielding consistent gains on an unseen catalog. Overall, AgentSelect provides the first unified data and evaluation infrastructure for agent recommendation, which establishes a reproducible foundation to study and accelerate the emerging agent ecosystem.

Joint Modeling of Conditional Mean and Variability in Multilevel Functional Data: Application to Postprandial Glucose Trajectories in the AEGIS Study

Yang Xiao, Francisco Gude, Marcos Matabuena

原文摘要

Functional data analysis provides a framework for studying time-varying associations between covariates and high-frequency biological signals. In digital health, participants often contribute repeated functional trajectories, yet existing multilevel regression methods largely focus on the conditional mean, overlooking variability and its role in biological heterogeneity. We propose a heteroskedastic functional mixed-effects regression framework that jointly models the conditional mean and variance of repeated trajectories, with participant-specific random effects in both components. We also develop a participant-level bootstrap to quantify uncertainty in estimated functional parameters. We apply the method to postprandial glucose trajectories from the AEGIS study. Premeal glucose, carbohydrate intake, and meal type show distinct time-dependent associations with glucose variability, whereas HbA1c is more strongly associated with the conditional mean than with variability. Substantial between-participant differences in residual variability remain even after accounting for observed covariates. These findings show that modeling conditional variability alongside the mean provides insights into glucose regulation and individual heterogeneity that mean-focused analyses may miss. More broadly, the proposed framework enables joint characterization of average responses, variability, and participant-specific heterogeneity in repeated biological signals.

原文摘要

This paper presents a keyword spotting (KWS) system implemented on the NXP MCXN947 microcontroller with an integrated Neural Processing Unit (NPU), enabling real-time voice interaction on resource-constrained devices. The system combines MFCC feature extraction with a CNN classifier, optimized using Quantization Aware Training to reduce model size with minimal accuracy drop. Experimental results demonstrate a 59x speedup in inference time when leveraging the NPU compared to CPU-only execution, achieving 97.06% accuracy with a model size of 30.58 KB, demonstrating the feasibility of efficient, low-power voice interfaces on embedded platforms.

The Male Abstraction Bias in Internet Culture and Large Language Models

Douglas Guilbeault, Bhargav Srinivasa Desikan

原文摘要

Conceptual abstraction and gender are two equally central aspects of the human mind, yet they have traditionally been studied in isolation from one another, as though they were fundamentally separate. Here, we find gender and abstraction are systematically linked throughout the space of concepts spanning single (N = 40,000) and multi-word expressions (N = 67,000): across billions of words and millions of images on the internet --- and across numerous measurement techniques, including human and AI classifications --- more abstract concepts are more associated with men, a pattern we show replicates in languages around the world. This male abstraction bias not only holds across semantic domains, but it also maps onto grammatical structure: verbs and adverbs are more abstract and more male-coded, revealing a system-wide trace of stereotypes accentuating agentic qualities in men. Furthermore, we show this bias readily emerges in the free associations humans and AIs produce in controlled online tasks, indicating its psychological internalization and its algorithmic reproduction. These findings identify a latent structure in conceptual space that unifies a range of stereotypes: for example, framings of women as more embodied, emotional, and warm, versus men as more cognitive, rational, and competent; as well as erroneous views of men as better at mathematics, science, and engineering. More broadly, by analyzing an unprecedentedly large, multimodal sample of online data, we provide culture-wide evidence of gender as a core organizing principle shaping conceptual space far beyond the characterization of people and social roles.

Towards Scalable Diagnostic-Driven Whole-Slide Image Retrieval for Pathology Archives

Jingsong Liu, Youssef Wally Han Li, Weiwei Zhou, Jing Dai, Elisabeth Wetzer, Peter J. Schüffler

原文摘要

The growing adoption of digital pathology has rapidly expanded collections of hematoxylin-and-eosin whole-slide images, yet efficient navigation through these archives remains challenging, as metadata is often inconsistent or unavailable. Content-based image retrieval addresses this challenge by identifying similar cases directly from visual representations instead of manual annotations or metadata. Existing retrieval systems have demonstrated promising performance but largely rely on handcrafted indexing pipelines and predefined sampling strategies, constraining scalability and generalization. Here, we present CLEAR-WSI (Constant-Length Embedding for Automatic Retrieval of Whole-Slide Images) as a scalable, diagnostic-driven slide-retrieval framework, validated on both public and clinical data. Using a fixed-length slide embedding, CLEAR-WSI refines retrieved candidates with either a predicted diagnostic label or the ground-truth label, depending on the retrieval setting. Newly processed cases are subsequently added to the expanding memory bank, allowing the retrieval archive to grow over time. On a comprehensive benchmark consisting of two public and one private clinical datasets representing four retrieval tasks, CLEAR-WSI improves Precision@5 over the strongest evaluated baseline, with gains on CAMELYON16 (3.10), BRACS-1 (2.75), BRACS-2 (1.95), and X-HER2 (3.75). Additional ablation and latency studies further examine the contribution of each component and highlight its potential for scalable deployment.

The Blindfolded Controller: Decision Model-Guided Training for Reinforcement Learning

Muhammad Ibrahim Khan, Aniket Dixit, Faizan Ahmed, James Brusey

原文摘要

Reinforcement learning (RL) provides a framework for continuous improvement through interaction with an environment. However, RL agents struggle against tasks that offer exploration challenges and sparse rewards, because learning efficient policies from scratch is slow and sample-inefficient. In contrast, decision models (DMs), given a description of the environment and task, can perform well in sparse-reward tasks, but, as they do not learn from reward, they are not able to improve towards the optimal solution. In this paper, we present Decision Model-Guided Training (DMGT), a technique that uses a DM with a description of the environment and task to initialise an RL policy, combining the DM's ability to act without training with RL's ability to improve from reward. Instead of exploring from scratch, the agent reaches the goal and receives reward from its first episodes, and RL then improves its policy beyond what the DM achieves. We demonstrate through experiments on seven tasks that our approach outperforms RL in all seven and DM in five. In addition, we provide comprehensive guidelines, derived from ablation studies, for describing an environment and task to a DM.

原文摘要

Most parameters of a Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) model belong to its experts, and standard training keeps every expert gradient in GPU memory until the optimizer step. This memory grows with the number and size of the experts, so it rises as MoE models scale. We introduce Sonar-MoE, which updates each expert tensor during the backward pass and frees its gradient right away. It brings optimizer-in-backward from dense models to batched MoE expert tensors, so the GPU never holds more than one layer of expert gradients. When we fine-tune OLMoE-1B-7B and Granite-3.1-3B-A800M in bf16 with two expert-kernel backends, Sonar-MoE lowers peak memory by 19% to 22%. Its updates are bitwise identical to standard training without expert gradient clipping, and held-out loss stays within 0.003 of all baselines. Each step also takes 17% to 23% less time than standard training with global-norm clipping. Updating whole batched tensors rather than individual experts is what keeps Sonar-MoE fast, as it avoids a 20% to 72% slowdown while using the same memory. Sonar-MoE matches optimizer-in-backward over all parameters in memory and speed while still clipping the dense parameters.

AttnSR: Attention Step Reward for Long-Horizon Agentic RL

Mengsong Wu, Tianchen Zhou, Zhaochen Su, Zhenhua Liu, Zhe Cui, Aimin Zhou

原文摘要

Long-horizon LLM agents make multi-step decisions, yet outcome-reward-only reinforcement learning provides little direct supervision for individual steps. We introduce AttnSR, a step-level reward augmentation method that derives reward allocations from policy attention extracted during training replay, without a separately trained reward model or additional rollouts. AttnSR traces backward through the policy model attention graph to estimate the relevance of earlier steps to the final response. The terminal step, measured relative to a running baseline, determines whether these rewards reinforce or penalize the selected steps. In a controlled Qwen2.5-7B-Instruct study, AttnSR consistently outperforms the PPO baseline across all evaluated checkpoints on ALFWorld, raising final held-out success from 91.2% to 97.1%. The ablation experiment shows that the benefit depends on how intermediate rewards are assigned, rather than simple accumulation of step rewards over time. AttnSR also improves ScienceWorld at every checkpoint while cutting environment interactions by 29.9%. These results support policy attention as a practical prior for step-level reward allocation in long-horizon agentic RL. Code is available at https://github.com/fairyshine/AttnSR .

Flux as a Codec: Zero-Shot Lossy Compression with Flux

Fuma Kimishima, Jinjia Zhou

原文摘要

We propose FluxC, a zero-shot codec that uses Flux as a compression prior. Although DiffC has shown that pretrained diffusion models can serve as zero-shot codecs, we ask how the choice of coding path and reconstruction method affects rate--distortion--perception behavior. We analyze FluxC along three axes: coding cost and bit allocation, reconstruction method, and low rate distortion. At matched signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), we show that the path choice does not affect the ideal information rate, but changes how bits are allocated across time steps. For reconstruction, we compare ancestral sampling, one-step ODE reconstruction, and many-step ODE reconstruction. Our analysis shows that ODE-based reconstruction can achieve lower distortion than ancestral sampling, especially in the low rate regime. Experiments on Gaussian sources and natural images support this prediction. Moreover, FluxC performs competitively with, and in some cases outperforms, recent neural image compression methods, suggesting that Flux can serve as a principled zero-shot codec.

ZeroRAG: Adaptive Semantic Peer Routing for Decentralized Retrieval-Augmented Generation

Petru Neague, Quinten Stokkink, Martijn de Vos, Rafael Pires, Mathis Randl, Anne-Marie Kermarrec, Johan Pouwelse

原文摘要

Retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) is a standard approach to enhance the reliability of large language model (LLM) outputs by retrieving documents relevant to a query and supplying them in the LLM prompt. Today's RAG systems collect, index, and serve these documents from centralized stores. In practice, however, documents are owned by organizations, devices, and individuals who cannot or will not surrender custody of them to a central party, e.g., because of privacy, copyright or regulatory compliance. Existing modern decentralized retrieval techniques either reintroduce a coordinating authority, or rely on a global data structure that requires continuous network-wide coordination (e.g., DHTs). We present ZeroRAG, a decentralized routing layer for document retrieval in RAG that performs semantic query routing across an overlay of peers with- out global data structures or centralized orchestration. Documents remain with the peers that own them, and each peer keeps only lightweight local state: a bounded set of neighbor advertisements and a cache of recently routed queries. Using these, ZeroRAG steers each query through a best-first walk that progressively rewires the overlay toward semantically relevant neighbors, so recall improves over time as the network self-organizes. We evaluate ZeroRAG using three real-world workloads and two decentralized baselines. We find that ZeroRAG outperforms baselines in terms of recall and required network messages, approaches the recall and LLM answer accuracy of a centralized document store, self-heals after catastrophic peer failures, and scales to 100 000 peers.

AraEngage: Interpretable Linguistic Correlates of Engagement in Arabic Facebook News

Shimaa Ibrahim, Nour Elhouda Dalloua, Md. Rafiul Biswas, Wajdi Zaghouani

原文摘要

Engagement features developed for English are routinely applied to Arabic, but unvocalized Arabic changes what a lexical feature measures. We introduce AraEngage, a query-defined sample of 10,000 public Arabic Facebook news posts from 2,451 pages in 57 countries (2023-2024) that pairs engagement counts with interpretable linguistic features. We use it to examine which interpretable Arabic indicators are associated with follower-normalized engagement, and how far those associations can be trusted given publisher context, the definition of engagement, and lexical ambiguity. Religious expressions, message length, sentence length, and lexical density are the leading correlates in a Random Forest model ($R^2$ = 0.38 on a post-level split) interpreted with SHAP. Unlike English news, positive sentiment is associated with higher engagement in this Arabic news sample. Message length shows a length paradox: unadjusted raw engagement is highest for long posts, whereas the model's attributions for follower-normalized engagement favor short posts. A linguistic audit identifies why standard lexicon features are fragile in unvocalized Arabic: imperative lists contain homographs such as the form read as "express!" that is also the frequent preposition "via", hedge lists conflate the possibility marker qad + imperfect ("may") with the emphatic qad + perfect ("has indeed"), and religious lists mix devotional formulas with place names in political news. These are plausible sources of measurement error that may attenuate the near-zero associations of imperatives and hedges. All findings are observational associations with operationalized indicators. We release the derived linguistic features, engagement counts, refined lexicons, and analysis code; raw posts are not redistributed, in line with CrowdTangle terms.

Efficiently Estimating Cycle Statistics on Graphs via Spanning Trees

Josef Hoppe, Michael T. Schaub

原文摘要

Simple cycles encode feedback and alternative routes in networks and are important for routing problems, the convergence of dynamical processes on networks, message passing and belief propagation, or even static network characterizations such as structural balance in signed networks. Being able to assess and sample from the cycle structure of a graph is thus of interest in many analysis contexts. However, due to the combinatorial growth of the cycle space with graph size, the computational cost for such sampling is high. Therefore, we here introduce a sampling framework that enables us to sample from the cycle structure without enumerating all cycles. Specifically, the method draws uniform spanning trees and collects the fundamental cycles created by their non-tree edges, such that each tree provides an informative subset of simple cycles. Because cycles are included with unequal probabilities and are dependent within each subset, we formulate an inclusion-probability-based Horvitz-Thompson estimator, which we average over random subsets, a procedure we call Monte Carlo Horvitz-Thompson. For this, we sample multiple Horvitz-Thompson estimators and introduce a method to further subsample the individual estimators for increased computational performance. For sampling cycles, the estimator is unbiased if exact cycle inclusion probabilities are known. To extend the method to larger networks, we derive an efficient mean-field approximation for the inclusion probabilities and characterize the graph regimes in which it remains accurate. Experiments on synthetic and real-world networks demonstrate the computational scaling and statistical performance of the framework. We then illustrate the utility of Monte Carlo Horvitz-Thompson estimation by estimating cycle counts and cycle-level frustration statistics in signed spin systems. An implementation is available in the py-raccoon package.

StitchEdit: Stitching Depth Priors into Image Editors via Per-Layer Gradient Probing

Qin Guo, Dan Xu

原文摘要

Text-guided image editing with diffusion models struggles with spatial edits (e.g. manipulating objects, changing viewpoints, manipulating occlusions) that depend on the 3D structure understanding of a scene. Marigold and follow-up work demonstrate that a pretrained diffusion backbone already harbors strong geometric priors that can be activated for depth estimation, yet how to redirect these priors toward editing remains unresolved. Through per-layer gradient probing, we discover that the editing and depth objectives are compatible in early transformer layers but actively conflict in late layers, explaining why naive depth-conditioned editing either ignores geometry or degrades visual quality. We present StitchEdit, which first activates the backbone's geometric capability via a lightweight depth-denoising adapter, then selectively fine-tunes this adapter for editing using a probe-guided per-layer learning rate schedule that preserves depth knowledge where it helps and prunes it where it conflicts. On the proposed StitchEditBench, a benchmark of 150 geometry-dependent edits spanning spatial transformation, occlusion manipulation, and viewpoint change, StitchEdit consistently surpasses both instruction-based and depth-conditioned baselines on perceptual quality and geometric fidelity.

Reasoning on the Manifold: Bidirectional Consistency for Self-Verification in Diffusion Language Models

Jiaoyang Ruan, Xin Gao, Yinda Chen, Hengyu Zeng, Liang Du, Guanghao Li, Jie Fu, Jian Pu

原文摘要

While Diffusion Large Language Models (dLLMs) offer structural advantages for global planning, efficiently verifying that they arrive at correct answers via valid reasoning traces remains a critical challenge. In this work, we propose a geometric perspective: Reasoning on the Manifold. We hypothesize that valid generation trajectories reside as stable attractors on the high-density manifold of the learned distribution, whereas invalid paths exhibit off-manifold drift. To operationalize this, we introduce Bidirectional Manifold Consistency (BMC), a training-free, unsupervised metric that quantifies the stability of the generated sequence through a forward-masking and backward-reconstruction cycle. Empirically, we demonstrate BMC's versatility across the full reasoning lifecycle: (1) in Diagnosis, it serves as a robust discriminator of solution validity without ground truth answer; (2) in Inference, it enables rejection resampling to effectively concentrate computational resources on complex reasoning tasks; and (3) in Alignment, it functions as a dense geometric reward that transforms sparse outcome supervision into fine-grained guidance, empowering models to self-evolve beyond standard baselines. Our results establish intrinsic geometric stability as a robust indicator of correctness for dLLMs.

SymFC: Configurable Semantics for All Paths Symbolic Execution in Haskell via Embeddings

Robin Webbers, Wind Wong, Klaus v. Gleissenthall

原文摘要

Lightweight methods like QuickCheck have proven to be successful in functional languages and beyond, as they let users specify properties as Boolean functions directly in code. We can replicate some of their benefits for (bounded) proofs via symbolic execution. If we can execute arbitrary functions symbolically, we can specify properties just as easily. Unfortunately, existing symbolic execution tools for Haskell are restricted to a subset of the language that excludes many real-world applications like IO; they also have a hard time scaling to larger programs, making them a poor fit for general purpose lightweight verification. One reason behind these limitations is that existing techniques only offer fixed symbolic semantics for SMT base types. This makes it hard to cover more programming constructs and libraries; it also makes it difficult to fine-tune symbolic representations for better performance. We present SymFC, a new symbolic execution method for Haskell that offers configurable semantics via embeddings. An embedding of a function in SymFC is just another Haskell function that can use arbitrary code, as well as SMT primitives. Embeddings make it easy to support new programming constructs and fine-tune symbolic representations for speed. To integrate embeddings into Haskell's type system, we make use of Haskell's coercions, which let us transparently convert between a Haskell type and the type of its embedding. We realize embeddings in SymFC, an all-paths symbolic execution engine for Haskell, which lets us symbolically represent arbitrary types and values in GHC core. We implement SymFC as a GHC plugin, and evaluate it by checking properties of Haskell's container library, and the iproute library. We build embeddings for IORef, Haskell's Ptr/ForeignPtr interface, and the hardware library Clash, and our evaluation reports a 6.25x speedup on G2's own benchmarks.

GuidedWAM: Training-Free Energy Guidance for World Action Models in Autonomous Driving

Xiyan Su, Finn Rasmus Schäfer, Hojun Lim, Frank Diermeyer, Johannes Betz, Markus Lienkamp

原文摘要

World action models (WAMs) for autonomous driving couple the driving policy and the visual world model in a single generative network whose objectives are fixed post-training. Conditioning on a new driving objective requires retraining. We study energy guidance as a general mechanism and present GuidedWAM, a model-agnostic framework for injecting driving objectives into frozen WAMs at sampling time. Our framework constructs each objective as differentiable energies on the sampler's intermediate clean-action estimate, which needs only forward access to the frozen model, and is stabilized by sampling-time guidance scheduling, per-energy normalization, and velocity-bounded correction. On the NAVSIM v2 hard-split, guidance improves all three frozen, publicly released WAMs by 1.8 to 3.6 EPDMS, averaged over three sampler seeds, and adds less than 10% to the sampling time per step. These results position energy guidance as a practical post-training control channel for WAMs.

EDGAR: Efficient Diffusion-Driven Gaussian Avatar Refinement via Synthetic Failure

Kwan Yun, Minhyeok Bang, Colette Suhjung Koo, Junyong Noh

原文摘要

Recent advances in Gaussian splatting have enabled efficient and photorealistic head avatar reconstruction, yet monocular video-based or image-based methods still suffer from under-constrained geometry and texture, leading to artifacts such as blurring, stretching, and temporal instability. We present EDGAR (Efficient Diffusion-Driven Gaussian Avatar Refinement), a conditional diffusion framework designed to enhance the quality of Gaussian avatars by correcting artifacts while preserving identity fidelity. To train EDGAR, we construct EDGAR-SET, a hybrid triplet dataset composed of real-captured and synthetic-rendered samples, which simulates realistic Gaussian avatar failure cases by pairing degraded renderings with ground-truth and reference images. EDGAR refines degraded frames through a fusion block that injects identity features extracted by the self-supervised Sapiens model into a one-step diffusion backbone, enabling effective artifact removal without sacrificing efficiency. Our EDGAR model incorporates a Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) architecture to address diverse degradation types and severity levels. The refined multi-view renderings are subsequently used as pseudo-targets to optimize a single underlying Gaussian avatar, so that the final avatar can be rendered without applying EDGAR to every output frame. Experiments on three different Gaussian avatar reconstruction methods, each evaluated under three different settings, show improvements in both perceptual and reconstruction measures over the raw outputs and an SDEdit-style refinement baseline. In addition, cross-view evaluation demonstrates improved calibrated consistency, while tests under large yaw and open-mouth expressions verify robustness under extreme settings. These results collectively indicate a useful operating regime for recoverable appearance artifacts. The code is available at https://kwanyun.github.io/edgar/

Cross-Asset Knowledge Transfer for Early Fault Detection of Data-Scarce Assets Without Target Fault Data

Zekai Wang, Yuxuan Li, Zhangyue Shi

原文摘要

Reliability management of industrial fleets depends on early fault warnings, yet lifecycle data across similar assets are highly imbalanced. A few assets accumulate run-to-failure histories, while newly installed or rarely failing assets provide only normal-condition data. This paper asks how diagnostic knowledge can be transferred from a data-rich source asset to a data-scarce target asset when no fault data have been observed on the target. We formulate cross-asset early fault detection as a zero-shot domain adaptation problem, in which zero-shot refers to the absence of target fault samples, and propose a framework that requires only normal data from the target. The framework comprises (1) a statistical process control step that labels the source asset run-to-failure data with an exponentially weighted moving average chart, reducing manual annotation to verifying flagged segments, (2) an Adapted Domain-Adversarial Neural Network (ADANN) that combines domain-adversarial training and a Maximum Mean Discrepancy penalty with an Adapted Classification-Domain (ACD) loss, which anchors the classifier normal region to the target own normal data, and (3) an ahead-of-time labeling scheme with a prediction horizon that targets incipient faults. Under an exact-classification assumption, a theoretical analysis characterizes the domain-adversarial term for a normal-only target and the alignment state in which source fault features remain separated from target normal features. On a public run-to-failure bearing dataset, ADANN attains the highest mean F1-score among four transfer baselines, with a nominally significant precision gain over the strongest baseline, and its robustness is examined under synthetic noise.

Tight Worst-Case Completion-Time Bounds for Dominant Resource Fairness

Mugen Blue, Sungjin Im, Alexander Lindermayr

原文摘要

Dominant Resource Fairness (DRF) is an influential policy for sharing multiple resources among jobs with heterogeneous demands. It combines sharing incentive, strategy-proofness, envy-freeness, and Pareto efficiency, making it particularly attractive for shared computing systems. DRF has been implemented in major resource-management frameworks, including Apache Mesos and Hadoop YARN. DRF is also nonclairvoyant: it requires no advance knowledge of job sizes, making it practical when processing requirements are difficult to predict. This motivates understanding its completion-time performance relative to an optimal schedule that knows all job sizes. However, elementary arguments can only give an $Ω(\sqrt D)$ lower bound and an $O(D)$ upper bound for total completion time, where $D$ is the number of resource types. In this paper, we close this gap by proving that DRF is $Θ(\sqrt D)$-competitive. More generally, for every fixed real $q\geq1$, we show that DRF is $Θ(D^{1/(q+1)})$-competitive for the $\ell_q$ norm of completion times, with larger $q$ placing greater emphasis on late-finishing jobs. These bounds hold with arbitrary release times. We also give a refined analysis of total completion time for small $D$.

Studying word order through iterative shuffling

Esmeralda S. Whitammer, Sameera Lanka, Pranav Goel, Nebojsa Jojic

原文摘要

As neural language models approach human performance on NLP benchmark tasks, their advances are widely seen as evidence of an increasingly complex understanding of syntax. This view rests upon a hypothesis that has not yet been empirically tested: that word order encodes meaning essential to performing these tasks. We refute this hypothesis in many cases: in the GLUE suite and in various genres of English text, the words in a sentence or phrase can rarely be permuted to form a phrase carrying substantially different information. Our surprising result relies on inference by iterative shuffling (IBIS), a novel, efficient procedure that finds the ordering of a bag of words having the highest likelihood under a fixed language model. IBIS can use any black-box model without additional training and is superior to existing word ordering algorithms. Coalescing our findings, we discuss how shuffling inference procedures such as IBIS can benefit language modeling and constrained generation.

Using Experience Twice: Dynamic Process Rubrics for Privileged Token-Level Credit Assignment

Shumao Wu, Kongcheng Zhang, Jianqiang Huang, Baisheng Lai

原文摘要

Agent trajectories often contain both successful decisions and failed attempts, yet optimization with sparse trajectory-level rewards struggles to identify which critical decisions should be reinforced or suppressed. We observe that meaningful distinctions among on-policy trajectories can be distilled into natural-language process rubrics and used as process supervision signals. Based on this insight, we propose Online Rubric Self-Distillation (ORSD), which leverages self-derived process rubrics for dense token-level supervision, thereby augmenting outcome-centric reinforcement learning. Specifically, the current policy independently generates multiple rubric bundles at each step according to the same group of trajectories, extracting candidate process rubrics from cross-trajectory behavioral differences. A frozen verifier then evaluates all rubric items against each trajectory in the group, and selects one candidate bundle based on bundle-level alignment between rubric satisfaction and task success. ORSD treats the selected rubric bundle as privileged information during training, then compares the log-likelihoods of the original tokens with and without the rubric. The resulting likelihood gap provides token-specific process credit, which is added to the original trajectory-level GRPO advantage through additive advantage shaping. ORSD thus bridges trajectory-level outcome supervision and fine-grained process supervision, enabling token-level credit assignment using process signals. Extensive experiments on ALFWorld and WebShop show that ORSD accelerates policy improvement and boosts final task performance for both Qwen3-1.7B and Qwen3-4B under the same environment-interaction budget. Our code is available at https://github.com/AnnaXChun/ORSD.

Structure from Collision via Hypothesis-Space Reasoning

Takuhiro Kaneko

原文摘要

Knowledge of the hidden interior structure of an object, including the presence and location of cavities, is essential for predictive simulation, robotic manipulation, and nondestructive inspection. However, such cavities leave no direct signature on the static visible surface, making collision-induced deformation one of the few cues used to infer their presence. Structure from Collision (SfC) addresses this problem by recovering the hidden interior structure of an object from multiview observations of a collision event. SfC is challenging for two reasons: hidden cavities are only indirectly observable through surface motion, and voids correspond to the absence of material, making direct optimization using standard density representations difficult. The density-based SfC baseline inherits both difficulties. Surface-matching gradients do not directly indicate the cavity location, while density gradients can be weak or uninformative inside or near void regions. Therefore, we reformulate SfC as hypothesis-space reasoning, representing hidden cavities as explicit structural hypotheses whose variables encode available structural assumptions rather than relying on implicit density updates. A global stage performs gradient-free optimization over this hypothesis space using forward-only material point method (MPM) simulation. A local stage then refines the selected hypothesis as a Lagrangian particle system through gradient-based optimization using differentiable MPM simulation. On the SfC benchmark, our method improves hidden-structure reconstruction and future prediction over the density-based SfC baseline. Interior-topology stress tests and robustness analyses characterize its scope and limitations. ASAP: Attention Sink Anchored Pruning

Jaehyuk Lee, Hanyoung Kim, Yanggee Kim, Donghun Lee

原文摘要

Vision Transformers (ViTs) face severe computational bottlenecks due to the quadratic complexity of self-attention at high resolutions. Existing token reduction methods rely on local metrics -- such as single-layer attention scores -- that are inherently vulnerable to the attention sink phenomenon, where uninformative tokens are paradoxically preserved over salient foreground objects. We propose ASAP (Attention Sink Anchored Pruning), a training-free framework that recasts this sink as a feature. Modeling ViT information flow as a Lazy Random Walk, ASAP identifies the sink as a dominant accumulator of probability mass. By computing the diffusion distance to the sink within the cumulative transition matrix, ASAP partitions tokens via Radial Diffusion Clustering and compresses background redundancy through Transition Weight Pooling in a single shot. Extensive experiments across image, video, and vision-language tasks demonstrate ASAP outperforms state-of-the-art methods, accelerating throughput by up to 48% while maintaining or even exceeding baseline accuracy.

DynSHAP: Towards Explainable Dynamic Survival Analysis

Nastasya Anokhina, Jonas Jürß, Pietro Liò

原文摘要

Deep learning models for dynamic survival analysis (DSA) achieve strong predictive performance by incorporating longitudinal patient data, but their black box nature limits clinical trust and adoption. Existing explainability methods cannot handle longitudinal, irregular inputs and functional survival outputs simultaneously, which limits their usability in DSA. We propose DynSHAP, a SHAP framework suited specifically for dynamic survival analysis. It extends common marginal SHAP estimators to this setting by treating time--feature pairs as players in the Shapley game. We further introduce Temporal DynSHAP, which learns linear dependencies in features over time and uses conditional sampling to address them in explanations. When applied to synthetic data with known ground-truth attributions, Temporal DynSHAP recovers temporally dependent features more accurately than marginal estimators for a given state-of-the-art model. Applied to two real-world clinical datasets and two DSA architectures, DynSHAP produces attributions faithful to model learning, allowing medical experts to see which patient information drove the prediction and when.

DISCERN: Distributional Synthetic Replay for Retain-Free Incremental Machine Unlearning

Nicolás Segura-Kunsagi, Juan Luis Suárez-Díaz, Iván Sevillano-García, Francisco Herrera

原文摘要

Machine unlearning aims to remove the influence of specific training data from a trained model without retraining from scratch. In real deployments, however, deletion requests arrive over time, calling for incremental class unlearning (ICU): classes are removed sequentially, previously forgotten knowledge must remain forgotten, and the remaining classes must be preserved. We present DIstributional SynthetiC rEplay for Retain-free iNcremental unlearning (DISCERN), an intervention-based class unlearning method that replaces access to the retain set with synthetic embeddings sampled from per-class parametric distributions. Unlike prototype-based replay, which assumes an isotropic Gaussian around each class centroid, DISCERN fits Euclidean (Gaussian, Laplace, Student's $t$) and directional (von Mises--Fisher, Fisher--Bingham) families to each class and selects among them through statistical tests and, when none of them accepts, cross-validated log-likelihood. This design is motivated by the architecture-dependent latent geometry: transformer embeddings lie approximately on a hypersphere and concentrate around class directions, unlike those of convolutional networks. We evaluate DISCERN against seven retain-free baselines on MNIST, CIFAR-10, and CIFAR-100 with two convolutional and two transformer backbones, under single-class, multi-class, and incremental unlearning. DISCERN is competitive when classes are removed at once and is the most stable method in ICU on transformers: on ViT-B/16, after 20 sequential deletions it retains a harmonic mean of $0.797$, whereas the strongest method in the simultaneous setting drops from $0.918$ to $0.048$. A paired ablation shows that per-class distribution selection substantially reduces the resurfacing of previously forgotten classes, acting as a stabilizer of accumulated forgetting rather than a uniform improvement.
