CRIM: Composable and Reusable Item Memory for Efficient Personalized Retrieval

Haolin Li, Haipeng Zhang, Mang Li, Zhaohui Xia, Xun Zhu, Miao Li, Yu Zhang, Ji Wu

Large language models incur substantial training and inference costs in personalized search and recommendation, as growing interaction histories lengthen request inputs and repeatedly expose the same item text to the model. We propose \textbf{C}omposable and \textbf{R}eusable \textbf{I}tem \textbf{M}emory (CRIM), a framework that separates item-level semantic encoding from request-level history modeling. A small set of learnable summary tokens compresses each item into compact continuous memories, while segment-level readout tokens (REC tokens) introduce predictive supervision within the interaction history. These memories are independent of users and queries and can therefore be reused across requests. At inference time, CRIM composes cached memories in interaction order and incorporates an optional query to produce a personalized retrieval representation, reducing repeated item-text encoding while retaining request-dependent contextual modeling. We further introduce a joint training mechanism that combines cached memories with sampled live re-encoding. Re-encoding only a few history items per request allows the retrieval objective to jointly optimize the item and request encoders at limited computational cost, while periodic cache refreshes maintain consistency. Extensive evaluation and cost analysis on MovieLens-1M, Qilin, and our new LazSeq dataset show that CRIM achieves state-of-the-art retrieval performance with substantially lower inference costs at the same backbone scale, while limiting item re-encoding during joint training. We will publicly release our code and dataset.

KnowMT-Bench: Benchmarking Knowledge-Intensive Long-Form Question Answering in Multi-Turn Dialogues

Junhao Chen, Yu Huang, Siyuan Li, Rui Yao, Hanqian Li, Hanyu Zhang, Jungang Li, Jian Chen 等 10 位作者

Multi-Turn Long-Form Question Answering (MT-LFQA) is a key application paradigm of Large Language Models (LLMs) in knowledge-intensive domains. However, existing benchmarks are limited to single-turn dialogue, while multi-turn dialogue benchmarks typically assess other orthogonal capabilities rather than knowledge-intensive factuality. To bridge this critical gap, we introduce \textbf{KnowMT-Bench}, a new benchmark designed to systematically evaluate MT-LFQA for LLMs across knowledge-intensive fields, including medicine, finance, and law. To faithfully assess the model's real-world performance, KnowMT-Bench employs a dynamic evaluation setting where models generate their own multi-turn dialogue histories given logically progressive question sequences. Our experiments on a diverse suite of LLMs show a clear degradation in both factual capability and information delivery efficiency in multi-turn dialogue. We further probe the underlying causes and investigate mitigation strategies spanning domain-specific finetuning, active context denoising, and RAG. The results show domain-dependent gains from finetuning, while active context denoising and RAG more consistently mitigate these issues, with RAG notably reversing this performance degradation. These findings underscore the importance of our benchmark for evaluating LLMs' conversational factual capabilities in real-world applications. Code and data are publicly available.\footnote{\href{https://github.com/Sven-LI-sankyuu/KnowMT-Bench}{\texttt{https://github.com/Sven-LI-sankyuu/KnowMT-Bench}}}

Rivet: Utility-Preserving Context Control for Repository-Level Coding Agents

Ruwei Pan, Linhao Wu, Yakun Zhang, Zixiong Yang, Lu Zhang, Hongyu Zhang

Repository-level code generation asks an agent to implement a task requirement inside an existing repository. To produce code that works in the repository, the agent needs repository evidence, such as target locations, helper definitions, caller usages, and configuration constraints, which determine how the code should be located, integrated, and executed. Because the context budget cannot hold the entire repository, existing retrieval, compression, and structure-aware methods select context by task similarity, context length, or structural proximity, but these criteria do not directly measure whether the selected context contains this evidence. As a result, the selected context can appear relevant to the task yet miss the evidence that the implementation depends on. We call this failure mode context utility dilution. In this paper, we propose Rivet, a context control framework that preserves repository evidence for coding agents under a fixed context budget. Rivet, first uses Signal Grounding to select task-related code anchors by fusing lexical, semantic, and structural signals. Utility Linking then expands these anchors through dependency, usage, and configuration relations to collect repository evidence. Finally, Budget Shaping packs the evidence by priority and, when the budget is tight, reduces snippets to signatures or summaries before dropping them. We evaluate Rivet, on two executable repository-level benchmarks, DevEval and RepoExec, with four backbone models, two context budgets (4K and 8K tokens), and eight baselines. Rivet, achieves the highest Pass@1 in all 16 settings and improves over the strongest baseline by 3.73--5.15 percentage points on average. Moreover, GPT-5-mini with Rivet, outperforms GPT-5 without Rivet,on both benchmarks while reducing inference cost by 73.3%--84.5%.

A Shared Control Framework for Mobile Robots with Planning-Level Intention Prediction

Jinyu Zhang, Lijun Han, Feng Jian, Lingxi Zhang, Hesheng Wang

In mobile robot shared control, effectively understanding human motion intention is critical for seamless human-robot collaboration. This paper presents a novel shared control framework featuring planning-level intention prediction. A path replanning algorithm is designed to adjust the robot's desired trajectory according to inferred human intentions. To represent future motion intentions, we introduce the concept of an intention domain, which serves as a constraint for path replanning. The intention-domain prediction and path replanning problems are jointly formulated as a Markov Decision Process and solved through deep reinforcement learning. In addition, a Voronoi-based human trajectory generation algorithm is developed, allowing the model to be trained entirely in simulation without human participation or demonstration data. Extensive simulations and real-world user studies demonstrate that the proposed method significantly reduces operator workload and enhances safety, without compromising task efficiency compared with existing assistive teleoperation approaches.

SLIDE: Search-to-List Item Distillation for Single-Rollout Generative Retrieval

Tianyu Zhan, Gui Ling, Ran Tao, Kunhai Lin, Tong Xiong, Wang Yang, Kaixuan Zhang, Zhihong Chen 等 12 位作者

Generative retrieval (GR) typically relies on item-level beam search to retrieve candidates, leaving cross-item dependencies unmodeled and limiting direct optimization of list-level objectives. A natural alternative is to generate the entire list within a single autoregressive trajectory. However, greedy decoding with directly trained list-wise models substantially underperforms beam search. We identify two contributing factors: the broader search space explored by beam search and the positional bias of scarce positive signals, which deprives later positions of adequate supervision. To address these challenges, we propose $\textbf{SLIDE}$, a search-to-list item distillation framework that decouples offline search from online list generation. A teacher model retrieves high-quality candidates through offline item-level beam search, providing additional conversion-relevant supervision beyond sparse behavioral labels. Their Semantic IDs (SIDs) are then concatenated in beam-score order to form list-wise distillation targets. This search-to-list conversion transforms candidates retrieved along separate search paths into sequential item-generation targets within a single trajectory. Trained on these targets, the student generates the Top-$K$ list in a single greedy pass, also decoupling teacher scaling from online deployment. Experiments on FORGE and Taobao Search show that SLIDE substantially improves retrieval quality under single greedy decoding and, with stronger offline teachers, surpasses the beam-search reference. Supplementary RL experiments support the effectiveness of list-level generation.

Knowing When the Evidence Is Enough: Requirement-Directed Search with Horn-Closure Certificates

Xinyu Zhang, Weiwei Sun

After each Web search, a search-augmented model must decide whether its evidence suffices: answer, search again, or abstain. Prevailing systems leave this to holistic model judgement, which can accept a context naming every entity yet lacking one required fact. We instead make sufficiency structural: a per-query requirement hypergraph states which facts jointly yield another fact. This raises two challenges: deriving requirements from the question alone, and linking each requirement to passages about the right entity. Certify therefore decomposes the question, searches per requirement, and accepts links only after entity checks. Horn closure over the links yields a certificate, the minimal sufficient passages and their derivation, or an abstention naming open requirements. Given correct retrieval, requirements and links, the decision is sound, and complete up to the entity check. Pooled over three corpora with unanswerable twins, Certify decides significantly more accurately than search agents, graph retrieval and sufficiency judges in default configurations. On the same evidence, it matches a proprietary model's sufficiency label without an additional model call. Over 21M Wikipedia passages, entity checks add 4 to 13 points of decision accuracy where gold evidence exists. Finally, answers from its certificate are 80% correct, against 57% from all retrieved passages.

Agent Memory as Recommendation: Recommender-System Design for Long-Term Memory of LLM Agents

Xinyu Zhang, Weiwei Sun

Large language model (LLM) agents that serve users across many sessions must choose, for every request, the few stored memories that enter a limited context window. This choice largely decides whether the agent answers correctly, and it runs on every request at Web scale. This selection faces three challenges: a large and growing store, a per-request cost budget, and multi-session questions that need all of their evidence. Many memory systems build notes or graphs with hundreds to thousands of LLM calls per history, and each is designed on its own, so it is unclear which component yields the accuracy. These challenges mirror the properties of recommendation, so we formalize agent memory as budgeted slate recommendation, with the request as the user, stored memories as items and the context window as a slate. The formalization places memory systems in one design space of recommender cascades and factorizes accuracy into the completeness that each stage controls. Guided by it, we propose AgentMemRec, which adapts candidate generation, learning to rank and slate construction from recommender systems and selects memories without any LLM call. On multi-session questions of LongMemEval, AgentMemRec outperforms memory and context-selection methods, including A-Mem, HippoRAG 2, DynamicRAG and T-Mem, by 10 to 31 points of accuracy. It matches an LLM reranker that makes 64 calls per query at 3.2 times lower serving cost, and on LoCoMo it outperforms Mem0 and Zep without any LLM call at write time. The factorization attributes the gains to slates that more often hold all of the evidence, so recommender-system design offers an effective and efficient foundation for the long-term memory of LLM agents.

Memory Tax: Dissecting the Net Value of Agent Memory

Xuan He, Sining Zhoubian, Ruozhen Yang, Yuhao Wen, Zhineng Wang, Yuyang Hu, Ke Yang, Yuyu Zhang 等 11 位作者

Memory is increasingly used in long-horizon agents, yet the net value of building memory over direct retrieval from raw history remains largely unclear. Through a large-scale evaluation across multiple benchmarks and model backbones, we find many dedicated memory systems underperform naive RAG in many cases, indicating a negative net value. Taking RAG as a reference, we dissect the net value of memory into the gains and losses over direct retrieval, termed memory benefit and memory tax. These gains and losses arise because memory process changes how the raw information is organized and accessed. We view such changes as the double-edged deviations from the raw history. They are originally designed and introduced to benefit the task, for example by reorganizing facts or distilling preferences, but some may also remove or obscure evidence, giving rise to memory tax. Since memory benefit reflects the expected gains of its design, we then focus more on the overlooked memory tax, study how it arises from the system and evaluation side, and generalize the concept to more application scenarios of memory. We hope the notion of memory tax can provide a new lens and shift more attention from standalone performance to the net value of memory, informing more reliable memory designs and evaluations. We will open-source the code and results to the community. Project Page: https://hexuan21.github.io/MemoryTax/

Self-Compacting Language Model Agents

Tianjian Li, Jingyu Zhang, William Jurayj, Xi Wang, Chuanyang Jin, Mehrdad Farajtabar, Eric Nalisnick, Daniel Khashabi

AI 速览:提出SelfCompact框架,让语言模型智能体在推理时自主决定何时及如何压缩上下文,以降低token成本并提升性能。

Long agent traces composed of chains of thought and tool calls accumulate stale content that anchor subsequent generations, and eventually outgrow the context window. Existing scaffolds mitigate it with fixed-interval compaction triggered at a token threshold. Such triggers pay no heed to trajectory structure, risking discard of partial results mid-derivation or mid-search. We propose SelfCompact, a scaffold that allows the model itself to decide when and how to compact. Specifically, it pairs two inference-time elements: (i) a compaction tool the model invokes to summarize the accumulated context, and (ii) a lightweight rubric specifying when to fire (a sub-task has resolved, or the trajectory is converging) and when to suppress (mid-derivation, or when stuck). Both are needed. The tool alone is unevenly used across open-weight models, often invoked at unhelpful moments or not at all; the rubric alone cannot act. Together, they elicit effective adaptive compaction without any fine-tuning or external supervision. We present empirical results on six benchmarks (competitive math and agentic search) and seven models. Our results show that SelfCompact matches or exceeds fixed-interval summarization at a fraction of the token cost, improving over a no-summarization baseline by up to 18.1 points on math and 5-9 points on agentic search at 30-70% lower per-question cost. Our results expose a meta-cognitive gap: although unprompted models cannot reliably tell when their own context is rotting, a lightweight rubric closes this gap, reframing when to compact as a capability that scaffolds can supply without training.

CPTCoder: A Reliable LLM System for Medical Procedure Code Prediction

Benlu Wang, Ziyao Shangguan Yale University, Kyle Tegtmeyer, Zhenyu Zhang, Sophie Chheang, Arman Cohan Yale University and Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence

We present CPTCoder, a human-in-the-loop system that predicts standardized medical procedure codes from clinical text. Clinical procedure coding is an extreme multi-label classification problem over a long-tailed space of short numeric identifiers, where a single-digit difference denotes an entirely different procedure. CPTCoder adapts an instruction-tuned LLM with a code-aware vocabulary and constrained decoding that guarantees all outputs are valid codes. To support human review, we derive per-code posterior inclusion probabilities from n-best reweighting, producing interpretable confidence scores that rank predictions and flag uncertain cases. A post-decoding constraint repair step enforces mutual-exclusion rules between conflicting codes. To enable reproducible research in this underexplored setting, we release MIMIC-CPT, a PhysioNet-accessible benchmark of 37,885 expert-cleaned report–code pairs with a deliberately hardened test split: 88% of test examples contain label combinations unseen during training, and over a third include codes with five or fewer training occurrences. We additionally provide 413,085 weakly aligned pairs and evaluate on a separate live dataset from a hospital, which includes out-of-domain radiology reports with billing-expert-verified labels. CPTCoder achieves 0.61 and 0.51 micro-F1 on the hardened MIMIC split and Hospital-298 respectively, outperforming the strongest baseline by 12 and 5 absolute points while reducing digit-level near-miss errors.

MemoPhishAgent: Memory-Augmented Multi-Modal LLM Agent for Phishing URL Detection

Xuan Chen, Hao Liu, Tao Yuan, Mehran Kafai, Piotr Habas, Xiangyu Zhang

Traditional phishing website detection relies on static heuristics or reference lists, which lag behind rapidly evolving attacks. While recent systems incorporate large language models (LLMs), they are still prompt-based, deterministic pipelines that underutilize reasoning capability. We present MemoPhishAgent (MPA), a memory-augmented multi-modal LLM agent that dynamically orchestrates phishing-specific tools and leverages episodic memories of past reasoning trajectories to guide decisions on recurring and novel threats. On two public datasets, MPA outperforms three state-of-the-art (SOTA) baselines, improving recall by 13.6%.To better reflect realistic, user-facing phishing detection performance, we further evaluate MPA on a benchmark of real-world suspicious URLs actively crawled from five social media platforms, where it improves recall by 20%.Detailed analysis shows episodic memory contributes up to 27% recall gain without introducing additional computational overhead. The ablation study confirms the necessity of the agent-based approach compared to prompt-based baselines and validates the effectiveness of our tool design. Finally, MPA is deployed in production, processing \sim60K targeted high-risk URLs weekly, and achieving 91.44% recall, providing proactive protection for millions of customers.Together, our results show that combining multi-modal reasoning with episodic memory yields robust, adaptable phishing detection in realistic user-exposure settings. Our implementation is available at https://github.com/XuanChen-xc/MemoPhishAgent.git.

LitVISTA: A Benchmark for Narrative Orchestration in Literary Text

Mingzhe Lu, Yiwen Wang, Yanbing Liu Institute of Information Engineering,Chinese Academy of Sciences, Qi You, Chong Liu University of Science and Technology of China, Ruize Qin, Haoyu Dong, Wenyu Zhang Baidu 等 11 位作者

Computational narrative analysis aims to capture rhythm, tension, and emotional dynamics in literary texts. Existing large language models can generate long stories but overly focus on causal coherence, neglecting the complex story arcs and orchestration inherent in human narratives. This suggests a structural misalignment between model- and human-generated narratives. We therefore position narrative analysis as a diagnostic proxy for generation and propose VISTA Space, a high-dimensional framework for narrative orchestration that unifies human and model perspectives while jointly characterizing narrative function and structure in a common space. We further introduce LitVISTA, a structurally annotated benchmark grounded in literary texts, which operationalizes VISTA Space for systematic evaluation of models’ narrative orchestration capabilities. Under an oracle setting with gold event anchors, we evaluate frontier LLMs including GPT, Claude, Grok, and Gemini. Results reveal systematic deficiencies, as current models struggle to jointly capture narrative function and structure and fail to form an integrated global view of literary narrative orchestration. End-to-end analysis further shows that failures are dominated by anchor identification and localization errors. Even advanced thinking modes yield mixed and often limited gains for literary narrative understanding.

MMCLIP: Cross-Modal Attention Masked Modelling for Medical Language-Image Pre-Training

Biao Wu, Yutong Xie Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, Zeyu Zhang Australian National University, Vu Minh Hieu Phan, Qi Chen Adelaide University, Ling Chen University of Technology Sydney, Qi Wu The University of Adelaide

Vision-and-language pretraining (VLP) in medicine leverages contrastive learning on image–text pairs, often enhanced with masked modeling. However, existing methods face two challenges: difficulty reconstructing key pathological features due to limited data, and reliance on either paired or image-only datasets without combining both. To address this, we propose MMCLIP (Masked Medical Contrastive Language–Image Pre-training), which introduces two modules: AttMIM: Masks image features highly correlated with text to improve reconstruction of fine medical details. EntMLM: Masks key medical entities in text and reconstructs them using visual cues. Furthermore, MMCLIP incorporates unpaired data through disease-kind prompts, achieving state-of-the-art performance in zero-shot and fine-tuning across five benchmarks.

From Logical to Computational Sparsity: Structure-Aware Block-Sparse Attention for Long-Code Completion

Yanli Wang, Yanlin Wang Sun Yat-Sen University, Bowen Zhang, Yiwei Zhang, Daya Guo, Jiachi Chen, Hongyu Zhang Chongqing University, Zibin Zheng Sun Yat-sen University

Code Large Language Models face critical Time-To-First-Token (TTFT) latency challenges when handling long code completion due to the quadratic complexity (O(n^2)) of attention mechanisms. While existing sparse attention methods attempt to address this issue, they suffer from three key limitations: (1) general sparse patterns cause excessive accuracy degradation without considering code structure, (2) code-specific methods achieve only logical sparsity without actual computational speedup, and (3) limited adaptation to complex scenarios such as repository-level completion. We propose SabreCoder, a training-free Structure-aware block-sparse attention mechanism that bridges the gap between logical and computational sparsity. SabreCoder parses code into semantic chunks, constructs chunk-level sparse patterns through dependency analysis and similarity matching, and maps them to GPU-friendly block-sparse formats. Extensive experiments on LCC and CrossCodeEval benchmarks demonstrate that SabreCoder reduces TTFT by 45-55% while maintaining accuracy within 3% of dense attention.

False Friends in the Shell: Unveiling the Emoticon Semantic Confusion in Large Language Models

Weipeng Jiang, Xiaoyu Zhang Nanyang Technological University, Juan Zhai University of Massachusetts at Amherst, Shiqing Ma University of Massachusetts at Amherst, Chao Shen Xi’an Jiaotong University, Yang Liu Nanyang Technological University

Emoticons are widely used in digital communication to convey affective intent, yet their safety implications for Large Language Models (LLMs) remain largely unexplored. In this paper, we identify emoticon semantic confusion, a vulnerability where LLMs misinterpret ASCII-based emoticons to perform unintended and even destructive actions. To systematically study this phenomenon, we develop an automated data generation pipeline and construct a dataset containing 3,757 code-oriented test cases spanning 21 meta-scenarios, four programming languages, and varying contextual complexities. Our study on six LLMs reveals that emoticon semantic confusion is pervasive, with an average confusion ratio exceeding 38%. More critically, over 90% of confused responses yield ’silent failures’, which are syntactically valid outputs but deviate from user intent, potentially leading to destructive security consequences.Furthermore, we observe that this vulnerability readily transfers to popular agent frameworks, while existing prompt-based mitigations remain largely ineffective. We call on the community to recognize this emerging vulnerability and develop effective mitigation methods to uphold the safety and reliability of human-LLM interactions.

Beyond Self-Report: Bridging the Intention-Behavior Gap in Critical Thinking Assessment via Interpretable Multi-Agent System

Zekun Li Tsinghua University, Jifan Yu, Haoxuan Li Tsinghua University, Ye He, Daniel Zhang-Li, Shangqing Tu, Joy Jia Yin Lim, Yikun Jiang 等 10 位作者

Accurate assessment of critical thinking is historically limited by the Intention Behavior Gap in psychology: the disconnect between what individuals self-reported disposition and their actual practical behaviors. We try to bridge this gap with MASA (Multi-Agent Scenario-based Assessment), a framework that operationalizes cognitive assessment into an interpretable and interactive multi-agent workflow with Assessment Chain-of-Thought (AsCoT). Validating on both large-scale simulations (N=1,161) and human participants (N=70), we find that MASA aligns better with human expert ratings (r=0.882) than traditional gold-standard inventories (r=0.720), with an average cost of only 0.41 per participant. These results suggest that by shifting from self-report inventory to behavior-grounded dialogue, MASA offers a more accurate, cost-effective, and transparent solution for real-world cognitive evaluation.

PaCoRe: Learning to Scale Test-Time Compute with Parallel Coordinated Reasoning

Jingcheng Hu, Yinmin Zhang StepFun, Shijie Shang, Xiaobo Yang, Yue Peng Tencent, Zhewei Huang, Hebin Zhou StepFun Inc., Xin Wu 等 19 位作者

We introduce Parallel Coordinated Reasoning (PaCoRe), a training-and-inference framework designed to overcome a central limitation of contemporary language models: their inability to scale test-time compute (TTC) far beyond sequential reasoning under a fixed context window. PaCoRe departs from the traditional sequential paradigm by driving TTC through massive parallel exploration coordinated via a message-passing architecture in multiple rounds. Each round launches many parallel reasoning trajectories, compacts their findings into context-bounded messages, and synthesizes these messages to guide the next round and ultimately produce the final answer. Trained end-to-end with large-scale, outcome-based reinforcement learning, the model masters the synthesis abilities required by PaCoRe and scales to multi-million-token effective TTC without exceeding context limits. The approach yields strong improvements across diverse domains and notably pushes reasoning beyond frontier systems in mathematics: an 8B model reaches 94.5% on HMMT 2025, surpassing GPT-5’s 93.2% by scaling effective TTC to roughly two million tokens. We open-source model checkpoints, training data, and the full inference pipeline to accelerate follow-up work.

Audio Jailbreak: An Open Comprehensive Benchmark for Jailbreaking Large Audio-Language Models

Zirui Song, Qian Jiang, Mingxuan Cui, Mingzhe Li, Lang Gao Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, Zeyu Zhang Australian National University, Zixiang Xu, Yanbo Wang Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence 等 11 位作者

The rise of Large Audio-Language Models (LAMs) brings both potential and risks, as their audio outputs may contain harmful or unethical content. However, current research lacks a systematic, quantitative evaluation of LAM safety, especially against jailbreak attacks, which are challenging due to the temporal and semantic nature of speech. To bridge this gap, we introduce AJailBench, the first benchmark specifically designed to evaluate jailbreak vulnerabilities in LAMs. We begin by constructing -Base, a dataset of 1,495 adversarial audio prompts spanning 10 policy-violating categories. Using this dataset, we evaluate several state-of-the-art LAMs and reveal that none exhibit consistent robustness across attacks. To further strengthen jailbreak testing and simulate more realistic attack conditions, we propose a method to generate dynamic adversarial variants. Our Audio Perturbation Toolkit (APT) applies targeted distortions across time, frequency, and amplitude domains. To preserve the original jailbreak intent, we enforce a semantic consistency constraint and employ Bayesian optimization to efficiently search for perturbations that are both subtle and highly effective. This results in AJailBench-APT+, an extended dataset of optimized adversarial audio samples. Our findings demonstrate that even small, semantically preserved perturbations can significantly reduce the safety performance of leading LAMs, underscoring the need for more robust and semantically aware defense mechanisms. We release AJailBench to facilitate future research: https://anonymous.4open.science/r/AudioJailbreak-4262/

UniSonate: A Unified Model for Speech, Music, and Sound Effect Generation with Text Instructions

Generative audio modeling has largely been fragmented into specialized tasks, text-to-speech (TTS), text-to-music (TTM), and text-to-audio (TTA), each operating under heterogeneous control paradigms. Unifying these modalities remains a fundamental challenge due to the intrinsic dissonance between structured semantic representations (speech/music) and unstructured acoustic textures (sound effects). In this paper, we introduce UniSonate, a unified flow-matching framework capable of synthesizing speech, music, and sound effects through a standardized, reference-free natural language instruction interface. To reconcile structural disparities, we propose a novel dynamic token injection mechanism that projects unstructured environmental sounds into a structured temporal latent space, enabling precise duration control within a phoneme-driven Multimodal Diffusion Transformer (MM-DiT). Coupled with a multi-stage curriculum learning strategy, this approach effectively mitigates cross-modal optimization conflicts. Extensive experiments demonstrate that UniSonate achieves state-of-the-art performance in instruction-based TTS (WER 1.47%) and TTM (SongEval Coherence 3.18), while maintaining competitive fidelity in TTA. Crucially, we observe positive transfer, where joint training on diverse audio data significantly enhances structural coherence and prosodic expressiveness compared to single-task baselines.

Large Language Models (LLMs) are increasingly deployed in socially sensitive domains, yet their unpredictable behaviors, ranging from misaligned intent to inconsistent personality, pose significant risks. We introduce SteerEval, a hierarchical benchmark for evaluating LLM controllability across three domains: language features, sentiment, and personality. Each domain is structured into three specification levels: L1 (what to express), L2 (how to express), and L3 (how to instantiate), connecting high-level behavioral intent to concrete textual output. Using SteerBench, we systematically evaluate contemporary steering methods, revealing that control often degrades at finer-grained levels. Our benchmark offers a principled and interpretable framework for safe and controllable LLM behavior, serving as a foundation for future research.

Why Steering Works: Toward a Unified View of Language Model Parameter Dynamics

Ziwen Xu Zhejiang University, Chenyan WU Zhejiang University of Technology, Hengyu Sun, Haiwen Hong Alibaba Group, Mengru Wang, Yunzhi Yao Zhejiang University, Longtao Huang Alibaba Group, Hui Xue 等 12 位作者

Methods for controlling large language models (LLMs), including local weight fine-tuning, LoRA-based adaptation, and activation-based interventions, are often studied in isolation, obscuring their connections and making comparison difficult. In this work, we present a unified view that frames these interventions as dynamic weight updates induced by a control signal, placing them within a single conceptual framework. Building on this view, we propose a unified preference-utility analysis that separates control effects into preference, defined as the tendency toward a target concept, and utility, defined as coherent and task-valid generation, and measures both on a shared log-odds scale using polarity-paired contrastive examples. Across methods, we observe a consistent trade-off between preference and utility: stronger control increases preference while predictably reducing utility. We further explain this behavior through an activation manifold perspective, in which control shifts representations along target-concept directions to enhance preference, while utility declines primarily when interventions push representations off the model’s valid-generation manifold. Finally, we introduce a new steering approach guided by this analysis that improves preference while better preserving utility.

The rapid rise in AI conference submissions has driven increasing exploration of large language models (LLMs) for peer review support. However, LLM-based reviewers often generate superficial, formulaic comments lacking substantive, evidence-grounded feedback. We attribute this to the underutilization of two key components of human reviewing: explicit rubrics and contextual grounding in existing work. To address this, we introduce ReviewBench, a benchmark evaluating review text according to paper-specific rubrics derived from official guidelines, the paper’s content, and human-written reviews. We further propose ReviewGrounder, a rubric-guided, tool-integrated multi-agent framework that decomposes reviewing into drafting and grounding stages, enriching shallow drafts via targeted evidence consolidation. Experiments on ReviewBench show that ReviewGrounder, using a Phi-4-14B-based drafter and a GPT-OSS-120B-based grounding stage, consistently outperforms baselines with substantially stronger/larger backbones (e.g., GPT-4.1 and DeepSeek-R1-670B) in both alignment with human judgments and rubric-based review quality across 8 dimensions. The code is available at https://github.com/EigenTom/ReviewGrounder.

SimPBL: A Multi-Agent Framework for Project-Based Learning

Daniel Zhang-Li, Joy Jia Yin Lim, Binglin Liu, Shangqing Tu, Zijun Yao, Hao Peng Tsinghua University, Tsinghua University, Jifan Yu, Haoxuan Li Tsinghua University 等 19 位作者

Project-Based Learning (PBL) is an important learning method that promotes understanding and acquiring practical skills through training learners through a project. However, effective PBL often requires sustained orchestration and collaboration, but existing LLM-based learning tools provide partial assistance without explicitly modeling these roles, and overly comprehensive help provided by LLM can reduce learner autonomy. We propose SimPBL, a multi-agent framework with an orchestrator agent that provides adaptive scaffolding from interaction logs and collaborator agents that support project work through boundary-aware collaboration. We conduct comprehensive evaluation to study the effectiveness of SimPBL, where we observe a 14% improvement in learner examination score. Results from extensive studies further highlights the ability of SimPBL to manage learning behavior and improve learning experience. Code and materials are available at https://anonymous.4open.science/r/SimPBL-D5B8.

RSMeM: Knowledge-Enhanced Memory Evolution for Remote Sensing Agents with Systematic Evaluation

Bingxian Wu, Yu Zhang, Zonghao Guo, Tang Liu Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Chen Qian, Yuxiang Lu, Xingbo Du Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, Yanghao Li 等 13 位作者

Geoscience research requires complex analysis and domain expertise, with remote sensing (RS) observations as a key foundation. However, existing RS agents built on general-purpose LLMs remain largely domain-agnostic, resulting in brittle and error-prone workflows. Moreover, these failures are seldom consolidated into a reusable experience for subsequent analyses. To address this issue, we introduce RSMeM, a knowledge-enhanced memory evolution mechanism that bootstraps RS agents with pre-distilled domain knowledge and iteratively integrates online experience for robust multi-step tool execution. RSMeM is composed of two components: (i) Hierarchical Knowledge Grounding, which performs taxonomy-aware retrieval over a hierarchical domain corpus to guide planning and tool selection; and (ii) Failure-Aware Experience Refinement, which distills failure-annotated tool-use traces into reusable constraints for next-round tool execution. By iteratively employing these two processes, RS agents can evolve to absorb task-level domain knowledge and effectively translate it into instance-level execution experience. Extensive experiments on EarthBench demonstrate that RSMeM consistently improves tool-use performance and end-to-end accuracy across a diverse set of LLM backbones. Notably, RSMeM achieves a 6% accuracy improvement on DeepSeek-V3.2 with less than 1% additional experience tokens, demonstrating the knowledge density of our distilled experience. All codes and models will be released to support reproducible research.

ChemReason-Bench: Benchmarking Large Language Models for Procedural Reasoning in Experimental Chemistry

Jinwei Zhang, Xucheng Liang University of Southern California, Yu Zhang, Ruijie Yu, Xiaokang Yang Shanghai Jiaotong University, Yaohui Jin Shanghai Jiaotong University, Yanyan Xu Shanghai Jiaotong University

Experimental protocols in organic synthesis specify not only the intended transformation but also an executable sequence of operations and conditions. While recent language models show strong chemistry knowledge, widely used evaluations remain less diagnostic of procedure-level decision making. In this setting, correctness requires consistent step ordering, feasibility under stated conditions, faithful entity-role grounding, and schema-parseable outputs that can be automatically validated against operational constraints. We present ChemReason-Bench, a human-validated benchmark for verifiable experimental procedure reasoning built on a structured representation with explicit placeholders and a unified schema, enabling automatic checks of many operational constraints. From 500 reactions, we instantiate 7306 benchmark tasks across six complementary formats: ordering, step validation, condition validation, schema-constrained completion, contrastive choice, and evidence-grounded rationalization. We further release a large-scale instantiation of the same templates for downstream adaptation studies, kept disjoint from the evaluation set. Using a unified evaluation protocol, we benchmark diverse open-source, proprietary, and domain-specific models and observe clear variation across the capability surface. We also report controlled adaptation experiments in the appendix, where supervised fine-tuning improves small models, preference optimization adds limited gains in our setting, and a gap remains to the strongest evaluated systems.

Beyond Static Artifacts: An Evolutionary Framework for Synthetic Claim Generation

Yeqing Teng, Jiasheng Si Qilu University of Technology (Shandong Academy of Sciences), Shuxia Lin Southeast University, Linhai Zhang, Weiyu Zhang, Wenpeng Lu, Deyu Zhou Southeast University, Xiaoming Wu Qilu University of Technology

With the generative capabilities of large language models (LLMs) reshaping the information ecosystem, the concern with the sociological validity of claim detection benchmarks is increasing. Current claim detection benchmarks predominantly treat claims as static textual artifacts, overlooking the sociological etiology of how information naturally emerges and mutates. In this paper, we propose an evolutionary paradigm that models claims as socially evolving entities. In specific, we introduce a socially generative framework for synthetic claim generation, a multi-agent simulation grounded in the Open Claims Model. By decomposing claims into context, utterance, and proposition, our approach enables the precise simulation of unmitigated propagation to capture truth decay, and intervened propagation with multi-auditor oversight for targeted generation. Furthermore, we propose the background-user-perspective (BUP) framework, which reformulates check-worthiness as a condition-dependent probability rooted in social environment. Experiments on our datasets verify the data quality and reveal how network topology and user attributes systematically shape veracity drift.

CloneMem: Benchmarking Long-Term Memory for AI Clones

Sen Hu Peking University, Zhiyu Zhang, Yuxiang Wei Georgia Institute of Technology, Xueran Han, Zhenheng Tang, Ronghao Chen QuantaAlpha, Huacan Wang QuantaAlpha

AI Clones aim to simulate an individual’s thoughts and behaviors to enable long-term, personalized interaction, placing stringent demands on memory systems to model experiences, emotions, and opinions over time. Existing memory benchmarks primarily rely on user–agent conversational histories, which are temporally fragmented and insufficient for capturing continuous life trajectories. We introduce CloneMem, a benchmark for evaluating long-term memory in AI Clone scenarios grounded in non-conversational digital traces, including diaries, social media posts, and emails, spanning one to three years. CloneMem adopts a top-down data construction framework to ensure longitudinal coherence and defines tasks that assess an agent’s ability to track evolving personal states. Experiments show that current memory mechanisms struggle in this setting, highlighting open challenges for life-grounded personalized AI. Code and dataset are available at https://github.com/AvatarMemory/CloneMemBench

CypherSmith: Transforming Text-to-Cypher Generation for LLMs with Synthetic Data

Zeyu Zhang Amazon AGI, Kexuan Sun Amazon, Zheng Tang Amazon, Jens-S. Vöckler Amazon, Thien Huu Nguyen University of Oregon, Thuy Vu Amazon AGI

Knowledge Graph (KG) retrieval is a promising augmentation to address knowledge gaps and hallucinations in LLMs. As KGs in practice are stored in graph databases (e.g., Wikidata, Freebase), accurate retrieval requires translating natural language questions into structured queries (query generation). A key challenge of query generation is Text-to-Cypher, which generates Cypher queries for property graphs (e.g., Neo4j), a paradigm increasingly adopted in industry for their scalable architectures and expressive schemas. However, compared to other query generation tasks such as Text-to-SQL or Text-to-SPARQL, Text-to-Cypher remains underexplored due to scarce public KGs and datasets. Existing datasets are small, domain-limited, and lack diversity, constraining LLM progress. To address this, we introduce CypherSmith, an instruction-tuning dataset over 12\times larger than prior public Text-to-Cypher datasets, spanning diverse domains to better support LLM fine-tuning. Our key distinction lies in fully leveraging open-source LLMs for large-scale synthetic data generation and introducing a novel likelihood-based filtering technique to ensure high-quality Text-to-Cypher data. Extensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of CypherSmith, achieving state-of-the-art LLM performance.

Glyph: Scaling Context Windows via Visual-Text Compression

Large language models (LLMs) conventionally represent text as sequences of discrete tokens, making long-context scaling largely a matter of processing more tokens more efficiently. We instead explore a complementary direction: increasing how much original context each token represents. To this end, we introduce Glyph, a framework that renders long texts into compact visual pages and processes them with a vision-language model (VLM), allowing a fixed context window to cover substantially more text.To make visual compression practical, Glyph combines continual pre-training on rendered long-text data, an LLM-driven genetic search to identify rendering configurations that balance compression and task performance, and post-training with supervised fine-tuning and reinforcement learning.Across multiple long-context benchmarks, Glyph achieves 3–4× token compression while maintaining performance comparable to strong text-only LLMs such as Qwen3-8B, with over 4× faster prefilling and decoding and 2× faster supervised fine-tuning.Under more aggressive compression, a VLM with a 128K context window can handle tasks that would otherwise require up to 1M input tokens. Our code and model are released at https://github.com/thu-coai/Glyph.

SAGE: Sparse Adaptive Guidance for Dependency-Aware Tabular Data Generation

Shuo Yang, Zheyu Zhang Technical University of Munich, Bardh Prenkaj, Gjergji Kasneci Technische Universität München and University of Tuebingen

Generating high-fidelity synthetic tabular data remains a critical challenge for enhancing data availability in privacy-sensitive and low-resource domains. Recent approaches leverage LLMs by representing table rows as sequences, yet suffer from two fundamental limitations: (1) they model feature dependencies densely, introducing spurious correlations; and (2) they assume static relationships between features, ignoring how these dependencies vary with feature values. To overcome these limitations, we introduce SAGE (Sparse Adaptive Guidance), a novel LLM-based generation framework that enforces sparse and dynamic dependency guidance. SAGE discretizes features into value-aware pseudo-features and constructs a mutual information-based sparse dependency graph. This graph adaptively guides generation through explicit context selection or implicit logit correction, enabling LLMs to focus on truly relevant information during synthesis. Our extensive experiments across six datasets and multiple tasks reveal that SAGE not only improves data fidelity and downstream utility, boosting F1 scores by 10% compared to previous LLM-based methods, but also reduces policy violations by one point. These results highlight the importance of adaptive structure in tabular data generation and provide new insights into context-sensitive control of LLMs.
