Route to Remember: Adaptive Memory Selection for LLM Agents

Zeyu Fang, Jun Yin, Yongsheng Mei, Xu Han, Chaitali Joshi, Zhongkai Sun, Jie Hao, Bin Guo 等 11 位作者

The memory of production agents is increasingly becoming a bottleneck and is built almost exclusively from text: key points are extracted from out-of-limit context and retrieved into context at query time. Therefore, every new query incurs an additional cost that grows with the accumulated history. Weight memory is a complementary alternative that internalizes knowledge into model parameters and answers with no context at all, and has recently proven effective in self-evolving agents for internalizing skills and behaviors. However, its application in episodic and semantic memory, such as user-specific facts, remains comparatively unexplored, and a gap remains between earlier attempts at weight memory and text-based systems regarding recall performance. We study how to make weight memory competitive as a long-term factual store by applying on-policy self-distillation (OPSD). It trains a context-free student from a teacher, which is the same model conditioned on the user's memory, together with a verify-then-regenerate router that lets weight and text memory each cover the queries they handle best. On the HaluMem benchmark, OPSD matches or surpasses strong text-memory baselines, including full-context prompting and retrieval systems, while reading fewer tokens per query. We further conduct an extensive study that characterizes the behavior of weight memory and analyzes how different training recipes affect its performance. As agent harnesses move toward persistent, multi-session deployments, these results position weight memory as a practical, low-cost component of agent memory and provide insights into feasible training and evaluation protocols for combining it with retrieval.

PolicyMediator: Multi-Regional Policy Learning through Mediation Agents with Evolving Skills in OPC Ecosystems

Jie Li, Bin Guo, Georgina Curto, Zikang Liu, Mengqi Chen, yu li

One-person companies (OPCs) are emerging enterprises operated by individual entrepreneurs through digital platforms and LLM-based AI agents. These highly skilled entrepreneurs are characterized by being digital nomads, with limited reliance on local ecosystems. Governments in China use distinct regional support policies to attract mobile OPCs, turning local support into a cross-regional coordination problem. OPCs compare regions to maximize their own utility, but imperfect policy perceptions may cause them to reject otherwise suitable locations. Existing policy-learning methods optimize resources under fixed perceptions, while consensus-formation methods aggregate views without feeding cognitive changes back into policy learning. This disconnect produces mismatched location choices and inefficient regional policy adjustment. We introduce PolicyMediator, a cognition-constrained leader-multi-follower Stackelberg framework with bilateral mediation. The mediator explains verified policies to OPCs to build awareness and trust, and reports their needs and unresolved concerns to governments for policy learning. Its self-evolving skills retain, revise, or prune strategies using verification, allocation, capacity, and objective trajectories rather than mediation success alone. Across six-region simulations in China with five OPC types, five scenarios, and three OPC-simulator backbones, PolicyMediator ranks first in all 15 OPC-backbone--scenario combinations. Over the eight-baseline mean, it improves the aggregate government objective, combining economic performance, employment benefit, and policy-access equality, by 42.4% and average OPC utility by 40.9%.

VEG: Verbal \epsilon-greedy for Semantic Exploration in Multi-Turn RL Agents

Yongchang Hao, Jie Hao, Yongsheng Mei, Ze Ye, Junyi Chai, Bin Guo, Benjamin Z. Yao, Chenlei Guo 等 9 位作者

Reinforcement learning (RL) has become a cornerstone of the post-training pipeline for large language models (LLMs), enabling capabilities such as complex reasoning and tool use. However, standard RL approaches face significant challenges due to reward sparsity. Moreover, LLMs typically exhibit mode-seeking behavior, concentrating probability mass on high-likelihood regions. This lack of diversity biases the model toward premature exploitation, hindering the exploration necessary for optimal learning. To address this, we propose VEG (verbal \epsilon-greedy), a novel framework that leverages external feedback as a dynamic control variable to explicitly balance exploration and exploitation within the semantic space. This method not only supplements sparse final rewards with intermediate signals but also enforces sustained exploration throughout the training process. Experiments on Tau Bench and SearchQA demonstrate that our method achieves superior accuracy compared to standard RL baselines. Notably, the trained policy eventually outperforms the external feedback model itself, demonstrating that VEG enables the agent to effectively filter and improve upon the guidance it receives.

SOAPTriage: SOAP-Guided Multi-View Clinical Text Modeling Framework for Automated ESI Prediction

Enming Wang, Jianlei Wang Key Laboratory of Computing Power Network and Information Security, Ministry of Education, Shandong Computer Science Center (National Supercomputer Center in Jinan), Qilu University of Technology (Shandong Academy of Sciences), Xueping Peng University of Technology Sydney, Hongjiao Guan, Yinglong Wang, Sibo Wei Zhongke Wenge Technology Co., Ltd, Jianbin Guo Institute of automation, Chinese academy of science, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Ruifeng Xu Harbin Institute of Technology 等 9 位作者

Emergency departments (ED) rely on the Emergency Severity Index (ESI) to assess patient acuity and prioritize care, a process that is largely driven by clinical triage text. Despite recent progress in automated ESI prediction, two fundamental challenges remain: the scarcity of high-quality triage text data due to privacy and regulatory constraints and the lack of a clinically grounded triage framework capable of explicitly capturing the multidimensional structure of triage reasoning. To address these challenges, we draw inspiration from the clinically grounded SOAP paradigm, in which SOAP refers to Subjective, Objective, Assessment, and Plan and captures four complementary aspects of clinical reasoning. Building on this paradigm, we propose SOAPTriage, a SOAP-guided multi-view clinical text modeling framework for automated ESI prediction. To mitigate data scarcity, SOAPTriage introduces a Clinical Note Augmentation (CNA) module that generates natural-language triage notes from structured ED records, resulting in 15,393 augmented clinical notes derived from a real-world dataset. To incorporate clinical structure, SOAPTriage employs a SOAP-Guided Encoding (SGE) module that models patient conditions from four complementary SOAP perspectives, together with an adaptive SOAP-Aware Aggregation and Inference (SAAI) module that performs multi-view reasoning to infer ESI levels. Extensive experiments show that SOAPTriage consistently outperforms strong prompting-based, multi-agent, and encoder-based baselines, demonstrating the effectiveness of SOAP-guided multi-view clinical text modeling for automated emergency triage.

Response-G1: Explicit Scene Graph Modeling for Proactive Streaming Video Understanding

Ke Ma, Jiaqi Tang, Bin Guo Northwestern Polytechnical University, Xueting Han, Ruonan Xu, Qingfeng He, Ziheng Wang, Xu Wang 等 11 位作者

Proactive streaming video understanding requires Video-LLMs to decide when to respond as a video unfolds, a task where existing methods often fall short due to their implicit, query-agnostic modeling of visual evidence. We introduce Response-G1, a novel framework that establishes explicit, structured alignment between the accumulated video evidence and the query’s expected response conditions via scene graphs. The framework operates in three fine-tuning-free stages: (1) online query-guided scene graph generation from streaming clips; (2) memory-based retrieval of the most semantically relevant historical scene graphs; and (3) retrieval-augmented trigger prompting for per-frame “silence/response” decisions. By grounding both evidence and conditions in a shared graph representation, Response-G1 achieves more interpretable and accurate response timing decisions. Experimental results on established benchmarks demonstrate the superiority of our method in both proactive and reactive tasks, validating the advantage of explicit scene graph modeling and retrieval in streaming video understanding.

How Do LLMs and VLMs Understand Viewpoint Rotation Without Vision? An Interpretability Study

Zhen Yang, Ping Jian Beijing Institute of Technology, Zhongbin Guo, Zuming Zhang Nanyang Technological University, Chengzhi Li Beijing Institute of Technology, Yonghong Deng Beijing Institute of Technology, Xinyue Zhang, Wenpeng Lu

Over the past year, spatial intelligence has drawn increasing attention. Many prior works study it from the perspective of visual-spatial intelligence, where models have access to visuospatial information from visual inputs. However, in the absence of visual information, whether linguistic intelligence alone is sufficient to endow models with spatial intelligence, and how models perform relevant tasks with text-only inputs still remain unexplored. Therefore, in this paper, we focus on a fundamental and critical capability in spatial intelligence from a linguistic perspective: viewpoint rotation understanding (VRU). Specifically, LLMs and VLMs are asked to infer their final viewpoint and predict the corresponding observation in an environment given textual description of viewpoint rotation and observation over multiple steps. We find that both LLMs and VLMs perform poorly on our proposed dataset while human can easily achieve 100% accuracy, indicating a substantial gap between current model capabilities and the requirements of spatial intelligence. To uncover the underlying mechanisms, we conduct a layer-wise probing analysis and head-wise causal intervention. Our findings reveal that although models encode viewpoint information in the hidden states, they appear to struggle to bind the viewpoint position with corresponding observation, resulting in a hallucination in final layers. Finally, we selectively fine-tune the key attention heads identified by causal intervention to improve VRU performance. Experimental results demonstrate that such selective fine-tuning achieves improved VRU performance while avoiding catastrophic forgetting of generic abilities.
