HairDeck:从单张图像生成可动画的风格化发片

HairDeck: Animation-Ready Stylized Hair Cards from a Single Image

Yuze He, Yixiang Wei, Wang Zhao, Chuhao Chen, Yanning Zhou, Yong-Jin Liu

AI 速览:HairDeck 将风格化发型视为无序的发片集合,用集合扩散 Transformer 从单张图像一次性生成发片及其弹簧骨骼链,得到可直接导出的可动画资产。

The hair of stylized characters in games and avatars is built from hair cards: artist-placed ribbons whose geometry is the visible hair, animated by spring bones. Existing image-based methods produce realistic hair or a single fused mesh, while CHARM, the only generator of stylized hair cards, decodes a hairstyle autoregressively as a long sequence of control points. Observing that a card hairstyle is an unordered set of artist-defined primitives, we propose HairDeck, which generates it as one: each card is a single token, and a set diffusion transformer denoises all cards together. From a single image, HairDeck generates the cards and the spring-bone chains that drive them, yielding an animatable asset that exports to ready-to-use downstream formats. On CHARM's own test set, it lowers Chamfer distance by 44% and card-orientation error by more than half while running 33 times faster, and from single images it outperforms CHARM, image-to-3D pipelines and strand-based methods. 论基于预填充的解码长度预测的根本极限

On the Fundamental Limits of Prefill-Based Decoding Length Prediction

Haowen Shi, Xuzhe Yan, Fahao Chen, Peng Li

AI 速览:作者指出基于预填充阶段隐状态预测LLM解码长度的精度受自回归解码固有随机性限制,并给出理论界与基准评测建议。

Predicting how many tokens a large language model (LLM) will decode, using only prefill-phase hidden states, is a key primitive for inference scheduling. We show that current benchmarks conflate predictor quality with task hardness: when the target model, dataset, or sampling configuration changes, reported accuracy collapses even though the predictor is unchanged. We trace this instability to an overlooked error source---the inherent stochasticity of autoregressive decoding---and derive bounds that every prefill-side method must obey. Our analysis treats decoding as a stopped stochastic process. The per-step stopping probability of a response is not constant but ramps up over hundreds of steps, so the decode length inherits a central limit theorem from the many local decisions that determine where a response ends; this yields per-prompt normality with an explicit error term, together with an affine variance law $σ=αμ+b$ whose slope is the coefficient of variation of the number of response segments. Empirically, the normal law reproduces the per-prompt MAE and the central mass of the decode-length distribution to within a few percent, and the residual departures from normality (mild right skew, slight excess kurtosis) are the ones predicted by the sampling-noise correction. Under fixed model, data, and sampling conditions, a broad design space of predictors (MLP, EGTP, FiLM, soft-label, and Mixture-of-Experts variants) converges to similar performance close to the bound, confirming that \emph{system error dominates model error}. We argue for a benchmarking protocol that fixes the model, data, and sampling parameters and that reports relative-error metrics alongside absolute ones. AI 速览:RFW-A 将智能体程序合成与程序化生成结合,先由智能体构建并验证类别级可复用生成器,再以程序化执行低成本批量产出铰接资产,并构建了 RFW-A-400K 数据集。

High-quality articulated assets are essential for embodied perception, simulation, and manipulation, yet constructing them at scale remains difficult. Manual annotation and procedural modeling require substantial human effort. Recent agentic systems automate asset construction through program synthesis, but repeat costly reasoning and refinement for every new asset. Our key observation is that assets within a category can share construction logic despite variations in structure and appearance. Agentic synthesis and procedural generation are therefore complementary: agents can construct reusable programs, while procedural execution reuses the resulting logic across many samples. We therefore present RFW-A, which combines the two in a new articulated-asset generation paradigm. Starting from existing articulated programs, RFW-A organizes reusable components and their dependencies into category-level generators. Agents test and refine these generators across sampled configurations and motion states. Once constructed and validated, the generators produce diverse assets through procedural execution with no further model calls or token charges. The estimated API cost of generator authoring averages $10.62, amortizing to $0.05 per asset over 200 assets, versus $1.24 for the sampled per-asset agentic synthesis baseline. Using RFW-A, we built RFW-A-400K, containing over 400K sim-ready articulated assets across more than 500 categories. Experiments show high structural and kinematic validity and stable execution across physics simulators. Beyond asset validity, training with RFW-A-400K improves part-level articulation estimation on seen and unseen categories, while policies trained in simulation with retrieved and program-edited assets transfer zero-shot to real articulated objects.

TaskFrame: Connecting Task-Level Planning with Frame-Level Control for Game Agents

Guangzhi Wang, Junfu Pu, Yiran Wang, Xingyilang Yin, Honghao Chen, Cheng Cheng, Lingen Li, Yinan Zhou 等 13 位作者

Building general game agents requires both high-level task reasoning and low-latency action control in rapidly changing visual environments. These capabilities favor models with substantially different computational profiles, making them difficult to realize within a single model. In this work, we present TaskFrame, a hierarchical planner-controller framework that connects task-level planning with frame-level keyboard-and-mouse control. A vision-language task planner decomposes a high-level goal into an ordered sequence of atomic instructions and is optimized through supervised learning and dependency-aware GRPO. The hidden states of special goal tokens that terminate each atomic instruction provide continuous goal embeddings that are cached and reused across control steps. A causal Transformer controller combines the embedding of the active goal with recent observations to predict discrete keyboard and mouse-button actions and continuous camera motion at every game step. We train the system in three stages: planner training, controller pretraining, and joint alignment. Experiments in Minecraft show that TaskFrame is competitive with general-purpose vision-language models on instruction decomposition, and that in closed-loop evaluation the agent achieves a higher combat success rate than the evaluated baselines.

PHKT:Personalized Dynamic Hypergraph-enhanced KAN-Transformer for Multi-behavior Sequential Recommendation

Ruijie Du, Hao Chen, Xin Zhang, Dongjing Wang, Ze Zhang, Xudong Shen, Runze Wu, Dongjin Yu

In multi-behavior recommendation, auxiliary behaviors such as clicks, add-to-cart, and purchases can provide richer supervisory information for predicting target behaviors. Although existing graph and hypergraph methods are capable of modeling high-order relationships among users, items, and behaviors, they still have limitations in heterogeneous semantics, user-specific weighting, and sequence dependency modeling. While standard Transformers excel at sequence modeling, their shared feedforward mapping struggles to accommodate the differentiated requirements of heterogeneous latent patterns in multi-behavior scenarios. To address this, this paper proposes the Personalized Hypergraph-enhanced Kolmogorov-Arnold Network Transformer (PHKT). Specifically, we design a personalized dynamic hypergraph module that performs behavior-aware weighting of item similarities based on users' historical behavior sequences to capture user-specific heterogeneous high-order relationships. Meanwhile, a Transformer is used as the temporal backbone to model the evolution of short- and long-term preferences, and KAN is introduced to replace the traditional MLP in the feedforward network to enhance fine-grained modeling capability for nonlinear responses to different latent patterns. Experiments on three real datasets, Tmall, RetailRocket, and IJCAI, show that PHKT consistently outperforms nine strong baseline models across multiple evaluation metrics, demonstrating its effectiveness in multi-behavior preference modeling and target behavior prediction.

Revisiting Over-refusal in Safety-aligned Large Language Models: A Representation and Optimization Perspective

Chao Chen, Pengyang Shao, Wei Qin, Shijie Hao, Fei Shen, Richang Hong

Over-refusal is a critical side effect of safety alignment in large language models (LLMs), causing harmless but superficially risky queries to be mistakenly rejected. Despite the effectiveness of existing mitigation methods, why safety-aligned LLMs may still reject harmless queries under correct safety supervision remains insufficiently understood. To address this gap, we analyze over-refusal through the lens of representation and optimization. We make two observations: 1) the representations of harmful and over-refusal samples are visually distinguishable at certain intermediate layers but increasingly overlap in deeper layers; and 2) harmful-sample gradients exhibit high intra-class similarity and concentrate in a low-rank subspace. Moreover, they are more strongly aligned with refusal-target gradients than with correct helpful-target gradients on over-refusal prompts. This imbalanced gradient coupling can bias over-refusal samples toward refusal, while the reduced apparent representational separation in deeper layers may make it more difficult for the model to maintain a clear boundary between harmful and over-refusal samples. To this end, we propose GOAL (Gradient Orthogonalization with contrAstive Learning), a safety-alignment framework for mitigating over-refusal. Specifically, GOAL consists of two components: 1) to prevent imbalanced gradient coupling from biasing the optimization of over-refusal samples toward refusal, we orthogonalize over-refusal gradients against the low-rank refusal subspace extracted from harmful gradients; and 2) to explicitly enhance the separation between harmful and over-refusal representations, we introduce a contrastive learning objective. Extensive experiments across multiple models and benchmarks demonstrate that GOAL effectively mitigates over-refusal while preserving safety performance and general capabilities.

A generalizable structural brain MRI foundation model via dual-priority federated pretraining

Zhen Yu, Yang Liu, Jianfeng Feng, Xiahai Zhuang, Qingchao Chen

Foundation models hold promise for generalizable analysis of structural brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans across diverse populations and imaging conditions. However, existing models typically rely on centralized pretraining using data pooled across cohorts, which is constrained by privacy and data-governance requirements. Moreover, larger cohorts can dominate optimization, underutilizing anatomical information from smaller cohorts and limiting generalization. Here we present BrainFedFM, a structural brain MRI foundation model federatively pretrained on 164,707 three-dimensional scans drawn from diverse real-world data distributions and organized across 42 federated sites. BrainFedFM uses dual-priority federated pretraining, in which spatial-priority masking emphasizes informative anatomical regions during local training, while site-priority aggregation adaptively weights contributions during global aggregation. Across 20 downstream datasets spanning 17 classification, regression and segmentation tasks, BrainFedFM achieved the state-of-the-art performance across seven foundation models, including four centralized models, while showing consistent advantages in classification and regression tasks and strong robustness under underrepresented populations and challenging imaging conditions. These findings demonstrate the generalizability of BrainFedFM and highlight federated pretraining as a practical strategy for developing neuroimaging foundation models from distributed data without pooling raw images.

HALO: Human-Grounded Granular Evaluation of Proactive Agents

Wenqi Pei, Xinyu Wang, Jinrui Liu, Cynthia Zhuge, Jie Sheng, Zihan Wang, Tenghao Huang, Muhao Chen

Proactive agents must decide whether, when, and how far to assist without an explicit request. Existing evaluations often rely on automated scores or binary verdicts, offering limited human diagnosis of evidence use and intervention quality. To address these gaps, we introduce HALO, Human-Grounded GrAnular EvaLuation of PrOactive Agents. HALO-Arena covers 4 proactive need types, Dependency, Blockage, Risk, and Opportunity, across 10 everyday domains and 50 personal environments. Scenarios require agents to retrieve evidence from structured databases or unstructured documents before judging whether assistance is warranted and choosing its scope. On HALO-Arena, we construct HALO-8K, a dataset of 8,000 responses from 10 models across 400 scenarios, annotated by 20 experts for action level, acceptability verdicts, and human diagnosis. For rejected responses, human diagnosis covers timing, intensity, and other issues. Recorded reasoning tokens and retrieval rounds measure the effort behind these responses. The best proprietary and open-source models achieve 72.88% and 56.63% acceptability, respectively. Our central finding is that over-proactivity is the dominant observed failure mode, with Premature timing or Excessive intensity accounting for 61.20% of rejected responses. Further analyses yield complementary findings on the balance between intervention and restraint, evidence acquisition, and the calibration of timing and intensity.

Continual Adaptation Across Modalities: Learning and Forgetting in Unified Multimodal Models

Xinrui Wang, Zhihao Chen, Jia Tang, Alexandra Gomez-Villa, Bartlomiej Twardowski, Joost van de Weijer, Songcan Chen

Unified multimodal models (UMMs), which can process and generate diverse modalities within a single framework, have recently emerged as a powerful paradigm. However, when these models undergo continual learning on multiple tasks across different modalities, their learning and forgetting dynamics remain poorly understood. In this paper, we systematically investigate how architectural design and adaptation method shape intra-modal learning and cross-modal interference between the generation and understanding sides. Specifically, we report three findings. First, the severity of cross-modal interference decreases with the degree of modality-specific parameter isolation. Second, a within-model asymmetry: the generation side of a UMM is markedly more fragile than its understanding side. Third, what post-training adds is the first to be forgotten: purely post-training capabilities such as personalized generation collapse by 84\% to 90\%, while pretraining capabilities remain stable. Together, these results clarify how parameter isolation and post-training fragility shape UMMs' learning and forgetting dynamics, offering a starting point for developing continually evolving UMMs.

Two Birds with One Stone: Skill-Augmented Generation via Unified Retrieval and Utilization

Zihan Luo, Jiahui Kang, Wei Zhou, Qilin Fan, Mingyan Li, Chao Chen

Skills, as reusable external knowledge, have demonstrated substantial potential to enhance the ability of Large Language Models (LLMs) to solve complex tasks. However, existing skill-augmented generation methods typically rely on separate models for skill retrieval and skill utilization, resulting in disconnected optimization of these two processes. To address this gap, we propose Skill-Uni, a unified reinforcement learning framework that jointly optimizes skill retrieval and utilization. Specifically, we adopt a generative skill retrieval paradigm that enables a single model to both learn how to retrieve relevant skills and leverage them for task solving. To effectively train this unified framework, we introduce a two-stage training strategy consisting of warm-up instruction tuning and GRPO, allowing the model to progressively improve its skill retrieval and utilization capabilities. Extensive experiments on five skill-related benchmarks demonstrate the effectiveness of Skill-Uni, yielding average performance gains of 66.59% and 34.82% over the base Qwen3-4B and LLaMA3.1-8B models, respectively. Besides, Skill-Uni is compatible with various skill retrieval engines, demonstrating its flexibility and generalizability. Additional in-depth analyses also provide insights into the effectiveness of Skill-Uni.

From Biological Curves to Soft Modular Robots: Learning-Based Inverse Design with Uncertainty-Guided Refinement

Dixiang Wang, Minghao Zha, Arifur Rahman, Yinhong Qin, Yitao Jiang, Shiyang Lu, Zebing Mao, Muhao Chen 等 9 位作者

Animals exhibit diverse shape-changing behaviors, from the undulatory swimming of eels to the arching movements of inchworms. Reproducing these biological shapes with modular soft robots offers a promising approach to developing versatile bioinspired robotic systems. However, translating a desired shape into a feasible robotic configuration remains challenging. Existing cable-driven modular soft robots rely on computationally expensive physics-based modeling and combinatorial search for inverse design, making it difficult to efficiently reproduce diverse target shapes. To address this challenge, we present a learning-based real-to-sim-to-real framework that translates biological curves into robotic configurations through surrogate-assisted inverse design and uncertainty-guided refinement. The proposed method combines learned inverse prediction with targeted candidate exploration, using a fast forward surrogate to evaluate and select suitable designs. The learned forward surrogate reduces deformation prediction time from $1.53 \times 10^5$ ms to 0.0008 ms, achieving approximately a $1.9 \times 10^8$-fold speedup. At the same time, the proposed inverse design method reduces design time from $1.99 \times 10^6$ ms to 4.18 ms. On 5,000 test samples generated from previously unseen threading patterns, the method achieves a 93% shape reconstruction success rate under surrogate-based evaluation. Physical demonstrations with four bioinspired robots further illustrate the translation of biological curves into realizable robotic shapes.

MiniMMD: Minimization of MMD for Sampling, Inference and Integration

Zonghao Chen

Many problems in computational statistics and machine learning can be formulated as approximating a target distribution by minimizing a discrepancy over a restricted class of candidate distributions. This minimum-discrepancy viewpoint appears, for example, in numerical integration, sampling, generative modelling, and statistical inference, but these instances are often studied separately in the literature. This thesis develops the first unified treatment of these many problems through the minimization of the maximum mean discrepancy (MMD), a kernel-based discrepancy between probability measures. The central theme is that MMD is not only a statistically meaningful distance between probability distributions, but also a tractable optimization objective to design practical and efficient algorithms. This thesis summarizes the recent theoretical and empirical advancements of such minimum-MMD based algorithms.

Prompt Lottery in LLM-as-a-Judge: Measuring and Mitigating Sensitivity to Syntactic Rephrasing

Ilija Subasic, Brett Levert, Andrew Rabinovich, Sajjad Pakdamansavoji, Zhao Chen

LLM-as-a-Judge has become a standard for evaluating large language models, yet most approaches implicitly assume that a single judge prompt functions as a stable evaluation instrument. Prior work has primarily explored deliberate prompt modifications such as scoring rubrics, role descriptions, or chain-of-thought reasoning in order to optimize accuracy. In contrast, we investigate whether validated prompt variants intended to preserve evaluation semantics while differing in surface realization (\textit{paraphrastic rephrasings}) yield consistent judgments under a fixed evaluation task. We introduce \textit{Prompt Lottery}, a phenomenon in which paraphrastic rephrasings produce different LLMaJ judgments. Across a large-scale study spanning diverse evaluation tasks, judge families, and model backbones, we find that these variations can alter evaluation outcomes and, in some settings, reverse relative model rankings. A user study with 10 human annotators shows that LLMaJ judges exhibit 6-9$\times$ larger agreement degradation under prompt rephrasings than humans, falling below the generally accepted threshold in usability studies. This indicates that single-prompt evaluation is insufficiently robust for model ranking. Finally, we show that multi-prompt aggregation substantially improves robustness by emphasizing judgments that remain consistent across prompt variants.

Decodable but Not Actionable: Auditing the Representation-Behavior Gap in Frozen LLMs for Geometric Constraints

Man Liang, Xinzhao Cheng, Faizan Wajid

Large language models (LLMs) perform well on structured reasoning tasks, but what they encode and whether encoded information guides their behavior remain unclear. We introduce a controlled auditing framework that uses parametric CAD to distinguish failures of encoding, expression, and activation-level control. Applied to eight pretrained models and matched randomly initialized controls, our framework reveals that pretraining contributes substantially more to linear decoding of local relations than to global constraint status, which is already highly decodable from random representations. Yet strong local decodability does not translate into the models' zero-shot predictions, which remain far below supervised probe performance. Restoring clean internal activations can repair probe predictions, whereas simple activation steering does not provide reliable targeted control. With only 400 labeled relation pairs, low-rank fine-tuning substantially improves generation on three representative models, showing that the representation--behavior gap can be reduced through adaptation. Together, these findings show why decodability alone is insufficient evidence that encoded information will be expressed or controllable in model behavior.

What Does World Modeling Actually Improve in Robot Action Learning?

Hanwen Cui, Yuanyuan Li, Qing Guo, Zhida Zhang, Chao Chen, Xi Chen, Jie Cao

World Action Models (WAMs) combine future-video prediction with robot action learning, yet improvements in task success alone do not reveal how predictive supervision manifests in execution behavior or whether its benefits persist under task and environmental shifts. We conduct controlled future-video prediction loss ablations within FastWAM and OpenWAM, keeping model architecture, initialization, robot training data, and training steps fixed within each model family. Under clean conditions on seen tasks, predictive supervision increases success rates by 24.38 and 72.91 percentage points, respectively. Trajectory clustering further reveals higher success rates within several coarse trajectory clusters, including cases where cluster frequencies change little, indicating that the gains are not solely reflected in changes in the prevalence of trajectory patterns. However, these benefits do not consistently persist under distribution shifts: improvements on unseen tasks vary across models and tasks, while both models exhibit low success rates under the evaluated environmental randomizations, without a consistent advantage from predictive supervision. We further introduce future-video prediction as an auxiliary training objective for $π_{0.5}$, where a lightweight Transformer predictor used only during training increases success from 82.94% to 89.19%. These findings support future-video prediction as effective auxiliary supervision for action learning, while distinguishing improved execution on familiar tasks from reliable transfer and showing that such gains need not rely on a large pretrained video diffusion transformer (DiT) in the evaluated setting.

Euclidean Crowding-Driven Adaptive Euclidean-Hyperbolic Graph Learning

Hao Chen, Jian Sun, Chuan Shi, Hongying Zhang

Hyperbolic graph representation learning has emerged as a powerful paradigm for modeling hierarchical data. Unlike Euclidean space, which exhibits polynomial volume growth, hyperbolic space grows exponentially with radius, naturally accommodating tree-like structures without the geometric distortion known as Euclidean crowding. Despite strong empirical performance, the theoretical mechanisms underlying hyperbolic embeddings remain poorly understood. In this work, we provide a geometric quantifcation research for Euclidean crowding, a generalization-theoretic explanation for the superiority of hyperbolic space on hierarchical data, and further develop an adaptive Euclidean-hyperbolic fusion learning framework toward bridging this gap. Specifically, we \textbf{first} establish a geometric quantification of Euclidean crowding by analyzing layer-wise minimum separation in node embeddings, proving that fixed-dimensional Euclidean embeddings of tree-like graphs inevitably exhibit layer-wise crowding that leads to weaker margin-based generalization bounds. \textbf{Second}, we provide a generalization-bound for the superiority of hyperbolic geometry on hierarchical data. \textbf{Third}, we propose EH-Fusion, a geometry-adaptive framework that lifts Euclidean GNN representations into hyperbolic space via exponential mapping and adaptively fuses both geometries based on node-level neighborhood expansion patterns. Extensive experiments validate our theoretical insights and demonstrate the effectiveness of EH-Fusion on benchmark datasets.

Taming Noise Initialization for Zero-shot Video Restoration with Image Diffusion Priors

Chong Wang, Zixuan Fu, Hao Cheng, Siyuan Yang, Alex C. Kot, Bihan Wen

Recent advances in diffusion models have achieved remarkable success in restoring high-quality images in a zero-shot manner. Unfortunately, extending this success to video restoration is challenging due to the substantial computational resources required to pre-train video diffusion models. A rising trend seeks to address video restoration by utilizing a pre-trained image diffusion model, initiating restoration from either frame-wise independent or identical Gaussian noise. Yet, these approaches often fall short, as such simple noise initiations fail to capture and utilize the inherent temporal correlations within degraded video frames. In this work, we propose taming noise initialization for zero-shot video restoration, which preserves the intrinsic temporal correlations by generating initial noises directly using DDIM inversion on the corrupted video frames themselves. Building on this, we introduce an adaptive noise blending strategy that suppresses degradation patterns encoded during DDIM inversion while gradually steering the noise toward a Gaussian distribution. To further emphasize temporal consistency, we propose measurement-guided trajectory attention to better align features across frames. Extensive experiments on multiple video restoration tasks demonstrate that our method outperforms existing zero-shot approaches, consistently achieving superior results on the DAVIS, REDS4, and Set8 datasets.

When the Critic Falls Behind: Co-Evolving Rubrics and Harnesses for Continual Agent Self-Improvement

Hao Chen, Yukun Yan, Ziyu Han, Ye He, Chuanzhe Guo, Shangzhan Li, Qi Shi, Qingfu Zhu 等 10 位作者

Autonomous agents increasingly depend on harnesses that govern interaction, memory, tools, and execution around large language models (LLMs). While recent work has begun to evolve these harnesses from execution experience, the supervision used to guide evolution often remains relatively static, making it difficult to track changing behavioral weaknesses across rounds and potentially limiting generalization to unseen tasks. To address this issue, we propose RuHarness, a rubric--harness co-evolution framework for continual agent self-improvement. RuHarness continually discovers and reassesses behavioral criteria from execution trajectories, prioritizes the most relevant unresolved weaknesses, and uses them to guide targeted harness updates while keeping the task objective fixed. Extensive experiments across diverse agent tasks and backbone models show that RuHarness outperforms strong harness-evolution baselines, particularly on unseen held-out tasks. Further analyses show that adaptive rubric prioritization tracks shifting weaknesses and supports more sustained improvement and stable generalization across evolution rounds.

Hy-Nomas: Towards Free-form Interactive World Generation

Qiaoling Chen, Jiaxiang Cheng, Xueqing Deng, Tiankai Hang, Ji Hou, Jiaqi Li, Yifan Liu, Tao Lu 等 38 位作者

Interactive world generation requires models to follow successive commands while preserving relevant history and action consequences. We present Hy-Nomas, a video world model with an 8B diffusion backbone that supports free-form text instructions and continuous camera control across multiple interaction turns. It generates variable-length segments conditioned on current inputs and cached history. Our central design aligns structured video captions with action-aware causal attention: descriptive context remains accessible across segments, while action instructions are restricted to their intended temporal windows. A vision-language Prompt Enhancer (PE) translates user requests and multimodal interaction histories into structured conditions for the next segment. A multi-stage curriculum progressively introduces causal generation, text interaction, camera control, and training on model-generated histories, followed by diffusion distillation. In human evaluation, Hy-Nomas shows superior performance over existing world models. We release model weights, code and benchmarks, together with a lightweight adaptation workflow, to support reproducible research on interactive world generation.

scTREAT: Latent Diffusion for Single-Cell Drug-Response Prediction

Zhaokang Liang, Shuyang Zhuang, Xiaoran Jiao, Weian Mao, Hao Chen

Generating drug-induced transcriptional responses requires a model to account for cellular background together with molecular identity and dose. We present scTREAT, the first diffusion framework to factorize state and drug guidance for single-cell drug-response prediction. A shared latent expression space connects baseline and response, while Guided Decomposable Attention (GD-Attn) injects a baseline representation and a dose-conditioned molecular embedding. Independent channel dropout exposes four conditioning states during training; inference combines three conditional predictions with separately specified state and drug coefficients, and dose modulates drug-guidance strength. On condition-level pseudobulk profiles derived from the Tahoe-100M single-cell atlas, scTREAT achieves the best value on 10 of 12 metrics for unseen cell line-drug combinations (UC) and 11 of 12 for unseen drugs (UD). Ablations examine condition injection, molecular representation, and guidance design. On UD, the relative gains over the second-best model reach 36.11% and 34.21% for DEG logFC-Spearman and logFC-Pearson. These results demonstrate the effectiveness of combining shared latent expression modeling with explicit state and drug conditioning for response prediction.

Decoupling and Regulating Modality Heads for Fake News Detection under Missing Modality

Kai Qian, Dongjie Xu, Weijie Shi, Yezhao Xu, Jiaqi Wang, Hanghui Guo, Mengze Li, Hao Chen 等 10 位作者

Multimodal news often loses its image or text as it spreads across Web platforms. Existing methods treat this as information loss, assuming that the original veracity label remains valid. This assumption fails for fake news reusing authentic material, whose remainder may be genuine. Detectors should therefore decouple modality cues and adapt their contributions to modality availability. However, coarse news labels provide little guidance for modality decoupling, while training on complete inputs can induce modality bias. To address these challenges, we propose Head-wise Modality Decoupling and Regulation (HMDR) for multimodal large language models. First, Modality Head Decoupling decouples modality representations through soft head grouping by attention preference. Second, Modality Head Regulation regulates head contributions through compensation for imbalanced modality attention. Finally, Modality Invariance Learning promotes invariance by aligning representations of each modality under replacement of the other. Experiments on two benchmarks show that HMDR improves detection under missing modalities while maintaining performance on complete inputs.

In robotic manipulation, the tight coupling between grasping and motion planning often obscures the true source of failure, leading to inefficient trial-and-error. To enable efficient long-horizon manipulation, we propose GTP-FA (Grasp-Then-Plan with Failure Attribution), a task-oriented two-stage 'grasp-then-plan' framework that generates grasp candidates and performs downstream motion planning conditioned on the selected grasp. Given a failed manipulation trajectory, we learn a failure attribution model that generalizes to unseen grasps and produces a stable distribution over failure modes for diagnosis-guided optimization. Based on these attribution results, we then optimize both modules in a diagnosis-driven manner: on the grasping side, we inject task-level priors and risk penalties into grasp candidate scoring and optimization to suppress unstable or task-incompatible grasps; on the planning side, we target high-risk initial states through data collection and fine-tuning to address genuine planning bottlenecks. We evaluate the proposed framework in both simulation and real-robot experiments, and show that GTP-FA improves the corresponding base learners across RL, IL, diffusion-policy, and VLA-based settings, achieving substantially higher overall task success rates.

CLeaR: A Unified Framework for Resolving the Leakage-Degradation Dilemma in Style Transfer

Teng Zhou, Yunhao Chen

Style transfer aims to render target content in the style of a reference image, but existing methods often suffer from content leakage, where objects, layouts, or semantics from the style reference appear in the generated output. Although prior data-driven and training-free methods can reduce leakage, they often face a leakage-degradation dilemma: stronger content suppression may weaken style fidelity, while richer style preservation may reintroduce unwanted reference content. We identify this dilemma across the full style-transfer pipeline, including feature separation, feature-space grounding, and diffusion generation. To address these issues, we propose CLeaR, a training-free framework for content-leakage-resistant style transfer. CLeaR first uses Orthogonal Subspace Projection to define content-reduced style targets in each vision foundation model (VFM) feature space. It then performs Ensemble Inversion, which optimizes a shared pixel-space style anchor satisfying style constraints across multiple VFMs. Finally, Energy-Guided Calibration maintains style alignment during diffusion sampling by steering the denoising trajectory toward the ensemble-defined style manifold. We further provide a theoretical analysis showing that the style-anchor estimation error decreases with the number of VFMs. Experiments on StyleBench demonstrate that CLeaR improves style alignment, reduces content leakage, and achieves better LLM-as-Judge evaluation compared with existing methods. The code is available at \href{https://github.com/0606zt/CLeaR}{https://github.com/0606zt/CLeaR}.

UT-HMR: Uncertainty-Guided Temporal Modeling for Robust 3D Human Mesh Recovery

Zhibo Wang, Sirisha Rambhatla, Yuhao Chen, Maria Koshkina, David Clausi

Monocular 3D human mesh recovery (HMR) remains unreliable under weak observations caused by long camera-to-person distances, occlusion, and motion blur. In challenging scenarios such as sports, these factors make the problem highly ambiguous, as different 3D poses may yield similar 2D projections. This ambiguity is especially severe for one-stage HMR, which recovers all meshes directly from the full image without person crops or external 2D cues. To handle this ambiguity, we present UT-HMR ( Uncertainty-guided Temporal HMR), to our knowledge the first one-stage HMR framework to capture correlated pose uncertainty across joints. Each person query predicts a Gaussian distribution over the full SMPL pose with a compact low-rank-plus-diagonal covariance, which is converted into joint-wise precision weights for heteroscedastic supervision while keeping inference deterministic. Temporal early fusion further injects neighboring-frame evidence before pose decoding, supplying the visual evidence needed to resolve the ambiguity that the uncertainty captures. With a lightweight ViT-B backbone, UT-HMR achieves state-of-the-art results on VIP-HockeyPose-v2 (ice hockey) and WorldPose (soccer), reducing MPJPE, PA-MPJPE, and PVE by up to 4.7%, 3.8%, and 5.6%, and remains competitive on 3DPW against methods with larger backbones and higher input resolutions.

Preemptive Instruction Following with Resumption

Zerun Liu, Lechao Cheng, Yimin Liu, Shengeng Tang, Yaxiong Wang, Zhun Zhong

Long-horizon embodied navigation may be interrupted by a higher-priority instruction before the current task sequence is complete. The agent must finish its current atomic task, execute the inserted task, and resume the remaining sequence from the updated environment state, where its viewpoint and available navigation candidates may have changed. To evaluate this capability, we introduce PIFR benchmark, a novel task for runtime task preemption and resumption in embodied navigation. PIFR includes single, repeated, and nested interruption settings, with stage-specific metrics for inserted-task completion, resumption of the original task, and completion of the full sequence. Evaluations show that recovery performance varies across interruption conditions, while aggregate success can obscure differences in interruption handling and resumption. We further propose a lightweight candidate-ranking baseline to improve target re-grounding after interruption. Together, PIFR and the baseline provide a systematic framework for studying interruption handling and task recovery in long-horizon embodied navigation.

PAIQ: Patch-Aligned Semantic Injection via Residual Rotation

Pinze Ren, Yuwei Zhang, Hao Chen, Linghao Meng, Chang Li, Qiankun Li

Language-aligned and self-supervised visual encoders offer complementary strengths in semantic abstraction and spatial detail. Harnessing this complementarity requires enriching local features while retaining distinctions between semantically related patches. We introduce PAIQ, a patch-aligned semantic injection framework that combines content-based cross-encoder matching with orthogonally constrained residual updates. Using DINOv3 patch features as the spatial base, PAIQ aggregates complementary SigLIP features through joint source allocation and injects the aggregate--base differences through a shared orthogonal transformation Q. This rotation adapts update directions while preserving residual norms and pairwise angles. For fixed projected features, we derive conditions for patch separability under similar semantic aggregates and show that rotation adds a nonnegative separation term over direct interpolation when the aggregate is shared. Only the projection and fusion parameters are trained; both visual encoders and the language model remain frozen, and fusion retains 196 visual tokens. Across diverse language backbones, PAIQ yields broad gains in judge-assessed correctness and reductions in hallucination severity over single-encoder interfaces on image description and visual question answering. On the 2B and 9B Qwen backbones, this compact interface outperforms the strongest evaluated fusion or token-compression baselines by about 2.9 correctness points on average.

KnowMT-Bench: Benchmarking Knowledge-Intensive Long-Form Question Answering in Multi-Turn Dialogues

Junhao Chen, Yu Huang, Siyuan Li, Rui Yao, Hanqian Li, Hanyu Zhang, Jungang Li, Jian Chen 等 10 位作者

Multi-Turn Long-Form Question Answering (MT-LFQA) is a key application paradigm of Large Language Models (LLMs) in knowledge-intensive domains. However, existing benchmarks are limited to single-turn dialogue, while multi-turn dialogue benchmarks typically assess other orthogonal capabilities rather than knowledge-intensive factuality. To bridge this critical gap, we introduce \textbf{KnowMT-Bench}, a new benchmark designed to systematically evaluate MT-LFQA for LLMs across knowledge-intensive fields, including medicine, finance, and law. To faithfully assess the model's real-world performance, KnowMT-Bench employs a dynamic evaluation setting where models generate their own multi-turn dialogue histories given logically progressive question sequences. Our experiments on a diverse suite of LLMs show a clear degradation in both factual capability and information delivery efficiency in multi-turn dialogue. We further probe the underlying causes and investigate mitigation strategies spanning domain-specific finetuning, active context denoising, and RAG. The results show domain-dependent gains from finetuning, while active context denoising and RAG more consistently mitigate these issues, with RAG notably reversing this performance degradation. These findings underscore the importance of our benchmark for evaluating LLMs' conversational factual capabilities in real-world applications. Code and data are publicly available.\footnote{\href{https://github.com/Sven-LI-sankyuu/KnowMT-Bench}{\texttt{https://github.com/Sven-LI-sankyuu/KnowMT-Bench}}}

Logic Hijacking of RAG: Single-Document Poisoning via Local Optimization

Hangyi Zhao, Bonan Zhang, Fusen Guo, Jiaheng Wei, Chao Chen, Tianqing Zhu

Single-document corpus poisoning under black-box access poses a severe threat to Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG). However, existing attacks predominantly rely on explicit factual refutations or imperative instruction overrides. Modern aligned LLMs often arbitrate such conflicts conservatively, rejecting overt contradictions in favor of parametric memory or clean retrieved context while triggering input guardrails. We propose MONOLOGUE, a single-document poisoning framework based on Logic Hijacking without explicit refutation. Rather than disputing the ground truth, our method concedes it as an authoritative historical baseline before introducing the update, weaving a grounded record-correction narrative (e.g., dated institutional reattributions) that presents the counterfactual target as the most recent update. To prevent suspicious live writes, payloads are refined entirely offline via local multi-dimensional gated optimization, coupling automated text quality audits with surrogate behavioral verification. Evaluations across three benchmarks, three retrieval backends, and four open-weight generator regimes show that our method achieves the strongest overall attack efficacy among the evaluated single-document poisoning attacks.

The Right Fact, the Wrong Decision: SciValidityBench for Scientific Agent Memory

Yuexi Pan, Yongchao Chen

Most agent-memory benchmarks frame long-term memory as retrieval: can an agent recover the relevant record from a long and evolving history? Scientific agents face a stricter problem: a correctly remembered fact may still be invalid to use. The same reported test result can support confirmation when the outcome and stopping rule were fixed in advance, yet only exploration when the outcome was selected from twenty inspected results. We call this scientific use validity: whether remembered evidence is eligible to influence a decision under the state governing its interpretation. We introduce SciValidityBench, an executable benchmark factory with 64 TaskSpecs spanning five validity modules and six scientific domains. TaskSpecs couple generated experimental histories with scientific-state definitions, programmatic decision oracles, controlled interventions, and automatic scoring. The SciStateForge compiler-reader framework turns distributed histories into explicit decision-governing state. Counterfactual pairs and targeted corruption-repair controls then test whether models use those dependencies and localize failures. Across four model families, compiled scientific state improves valid decision-making by 9.2-18.8 percentage points over a generic Event Graph. Retrieval alone does not reproduce this cross-family gain, while content-identical flat and typed views show that the improvement comes from exposing governing state rather than a particular graph serialization. SciValidityBench thus shifts memory evaluation from finding the right fact to deciding whether that fact should control the decision.

VGGT-$Ω$

Recent feed-forward reconstruction models, such as VGGT, have proven competitive with traditional optimization-based reconstructors while also providing geometry-aware features useful for other tasks. Here, we show that the quality of these models scales predictably with model and data size. We do so by introducing VGGT-$Ω$, which substantially improves reconstruction accuracy, efficiency, and capabilities for both static and dynamic scenes. To enable training this model at an unprecedented scale, we introduce architectural changes that improve training efficiency, a high-quality data annotation pipeline that supports dynamic scenes, and a self-supervised learning protocol. We simplify VGGT's architecture by using a single dense prediction head with multi-task supervision and removing the expensive high-resolution convolutional layers. We also use registers to aggregate scene information into a compact representation and introduce register attention, which restricts inter-frame information exchange to these registers, in part replacing global attention. In this way, during training, VGGT-$Ω$ uses only about 30% of the GPU memory of its predecessor, allowing us to train with 15x more supervised data than prior work and to leverage vast amounts of unlabeled video data. VGGT-$Ω$ achieves strong results for reconstruction of static and dynamic scenes across multiple benchmarks, for example, improving over the previous best camera estimation accuracy on Sintel by 77%. We also show that the learned registers can improve vision-language-action models and support alignment with language, suggesting that reconstruction can be a powerful and scalable proxy task for spatial understanding.
