CULTURE-CMT: Benchmarking Contextualized Social Media Translation

Linjuan Wu, Dingming Li, Yiwen Qiu, Xinze Lyu, Ye Guo, Daoxin Zhang, Zhe Xu, Weiming Lu

Social-media comments are interactions, yet they are often translated and evaluated as isolated text. This mismatch is especially problematic when meaning depends on surrounding discussion, community-specific slang, or culturally situated expressions. We introduce CULTURE-CMT, a Chinese-English benchmark for contextualized social-media comment translation that restores the post and conversational context naturally available to users. Its 572 manually verified examples are organized into Slang, Context, and Both, enabling diagnostic analysis of distinct and interacting sources of translation difficulty. To support scalable evaluation, we further develop a retrieval-augmented cultural-effectiveness Judger that combines a calibrated scoring model with dynamically retrieved cultural knowledge. CULTURE-CMT reveals several non-trivial patterns. Providing interaction context improves most model configurations, but does not eliminate culturally ineffective translations. Examples requiring both contextual grounding and culturally situated language remain substantially more difficult than either source of difficulty alone. Moreover, larger models are not consistently better, and thinking produces highly model-dependent gains, including occasional degradation. In contrast, a 27B model adapted on benchmark-disjoint social-media data achieves the lowest observed invalidity rate among the evaluated configurations under thinking inference with context. Together, these results suggest that realistic social-media translation is not simply a matter of scaling models or reasoning longer, but of learning to translate meaning as it is constructed within evolving online interactions.

Retrieval-Enhanced Cultural Evaluation for Social Media Translation Training

Linjuan Wu, Yiwen Qiu, Xinze Lyu, Dingming Li, Hui Yao, Zhongyi Sang, Ye Guo, Daoxin Zhang 等 14 位作者

Social media translation requires preserving meaning while capturing the cultural nuances of user-generated content (UGC). However, gaps in the cultural knowledge of LLM-based evaluators can lead to inaccurate assessments and unreliable training rewards. To improve these signals, we use retrieval-enhanced cultural evaluation to train CUE-MT, a family of social media translation models. A calibrated, domain-specific Judger guides supervised data refinement and is augmented by an Agent for hard-example mining and reinforcement learning. The Agent retrieves relevant external evidence as needed and distills it into concise hints that the Judger uses to score translations and assign rewards. Across 9B, 27B, and 35B-A3B backbones, CUE-MT outperforms the evaluated open-source baselines of comparable size on CUE-MT-Bench and three public benchmarks. Human evaluation on CUE-MT-Bench shows cultural effectiveness gains of 7.44-15.12 percentage points over the strongest external baseline in each size group. Retrieval improves the Judger's four-way classification accuracy by 8.07 percentage points over a matched no-retrieval baseline that uses LLM-generated hints alone. Training ablations further support the combination of hard-example mining and Agent-enhanced rewards.

Don't Guess, Ask Wisely: Benchmarking and Training Proactive Elicitation in Open-Domain LLM Conversations

Rongyu Zhang, Mutian Bao, Jinjian Zhang, Yuetian Du, He Xu, Wei Zhou, Xiaojun Zhu, Ming Kong 等 11 位作者

When user queries are incomplete, large language models should ask targeted questions before committing to an answer, a capability we call proactive elicitation, yet evaluation on real user-assistant queries across seven LLMs (8B to frontier) shows that fewer than 11% of underspecified queries trigger a follow-up question. To benchmark and train this capability, we introduce VagueBench, where each seed query is annotated with structured intent and detail units then degraded into intent-vague and fully-vague variants via controlled removal of linguistic cues, yielding known hidden information sets for evaluating both when and what to ask. We propose DialogGRPO, an offline reinforcement learning method that organizes multi-turn elicitation as a dialogue-state directed acyclic graph, where candidate questions at each node receive dense turn-level rewards combining immediate information gain with lookahead value through group-relative comparison, enabling fine-grained credit assignment without runtime simulation. DialogGRPO elicits missing information on over 88% of vague queries with substantial gains in both recovery efficiency and answer coverage, without over-asking on complete queries, outperforms prompting and test-time-scaling baselines, and generalizes zero-shot to MultiWOZ 2.4 and AmbigQA.

ClinFusion: A Vision-Centric Multimodal LLM System for Holistic Medical Understanding

Hangjie Yuan, Yichen Qian, Zhiwei Tang, Xianzhe Xu, Sicheng Yang, Lirong Wu, Jinwang Wang, Pengju Wang 等 24 位作者

Multimodal large language models (MLLMs) hold immense potential to revolutionize clinical practice, yet deploying them in the medical domain is fundamentally a vision-centric challenge: models must absorb knowledge from heterogeneous 2D and 3D medical images, and evaluation protocols must align with radiologists' clinical practice and provide an accurate, fine-grained and factualness-driven assessment. In this paper, we introduce ClinFusion, a vision-centric MLLM designed for holistic medical understanding that systematically addresses these limitations. We propose a compositional and cascaded vision encoder architecture featuring a Cascade Spatial-Aware Locality Fusion operator that unifies diverse 2D and native 3D medical image understanding within a fused encoder. We further introduce a vision-grounded evaluation framework, including MedIF-Bench for instruction-following assessment and a region-of-interest-grounded method for clinically aligned and factualness-driven report generation evaluation. We show that ClinFusion sets a new state-of-the-art across a comprehensive suite of 2D and 3D multimodal medical benchmarks---spanning visual question answering, report generation, and instruction following---as well as textual medical tasks, outperforming leading open-source medical MLLMs (\textit{e.g.}, Hulu-Med, Lingshu) on 20 out of 24 benchmarks and demonstrating multimodal capabilities better than powerful proprietary models such as GPT-5.2 and Gemini-3-Flash on 13 out of 16 benchmarks, and can be further augmented with agentic tool use for retrieval-augmented and tool-assisted clinical workflows. A blinded evaluation by board-certified radiologists confirms that ClinFusion produces the highest-ranked reports, and validates our RoI-grounded metric as achieving the strongest correlation with expert judgment among all automatic evaluation metrics examined.

AI 速览:作者提出一个语言条件机器人绘画基准 BURGER,用可扩展的提示驱动流程生成绘画轨迹,并在仿真与真实环境中评估 VLA 模型的数据规模泛化与语言 grounding。

How effectively can vision-language-action (VLA) models learn diverse language-conditioned behaviors as training data scales? Investigating this question requires large and varied robot datasets, whose collection on physical robots remains costly. We introduce BURGER, a language-conditioned robotic drawing benchmark with a scalable, prompt-driven pipeline for generating continuous drawing trajectories, both in simulation and the real world. In BURGER, an agent starts from the same blank canvas and controls a robot arm to draw the object or spatial composition specified by language, while each instruction allows an open-ended variety of valid drawings and stroke orders. Using 28,200 simulated demonstrations spanning 282 drawing tasks, we evaluate five representative VLA models across data scales, language grounding, and multimodal behavior. BURGER supports fine-grained analysis of language grounding, spatial composition, and action generation, revealing distinct failure patterns across VLA models. Our experiments suggest that some VLA models can benefit from greater task diversity and demonstration scale, capture multimodal drawing behaviors, and generalize to unseen compositions of familiar objects. Finally, we deploy a trained policy on a Franka Panda arm, demonstrating the ability to draw reactively under human intervention. AI 速览:TouchBridge 通过软硬件协同设计与触觉条件重定向,把人类演示直接转换为机器人训练数据,用于微调 VLA 模型完成接触丰富操作。

Human demonstrations offer an efficient and scalable source of data for dexterous robot manipulation, but differences in sensing and hand morphology complicate the transfer of contact-rich interactions. We present TouchBridge, a hardware--software co-designed framework for human-to-robot data transformation. A wearable human demonstration interface and a corresponding robot interface establish cross-embodiment correspondence in visual and fingertip tactile sensing. We introduce Tac-Retarget, a tactile-conditioned retargeting method that uses measured contact to align fingertip contact patches and preserve their spatial relations within and across hands. Unlike object-aware or simulation-based transfer pipelines, Tac-Retarget requires no object mesh, object-pose estimate, or physics simulation for retargeting, enabling direct and scalable conversion of human demonstrations into robot-domain training data. Combined with visual synthesis and camera-anchored action conversion, TouchBridge produces robot-domain demonstrations for fine-tuning a pretrained vision-language-action (VLA) model. Across four real-world contact-rich tasks, policies fine-tuned solely on TouchBridge-converted human demonstrations achieve a 72.5% average success rate, compared with 77.5% using an equal number of teleoperated robot demonstrations, while human demonstration collection is 7.0x faster. Under the same policy and training setup, Tac-Retarget outperforms DexPilot and UniDex by 25.0 and 42.5 percentage points, respectively.

SatOps-Decision: Low-Latency Discriminative Decisions for Onboard Satellite Communication Operations

Lifan Mei, Yuxuan Li, Jiaxian Tu, Shenghe Xu

We propose SatOps-Decision, a method for low-latency decisions in satellite communication operations. To the best of our knowledge, it is the first application of Jev-style general-purpose discriminative decision models to satellite operations, and the accompanying benchmark is the first dedicated to this approach. The learned scorer, a locally adapted Laya encoder with its native decision head, selects among supplied operational answers in a single forward pass. The benchmark combines authored operational contracts, controlled state changes and independently checked labels in an auditable construction. Evaluation prioritizes complete-request latency and raw decision accuracy; all main accuracy comparisons use the same 1,024 held-out questions, separate from training and development. SatOps-Decision's local scorer has a median latency of 90.3 ms per decision, versus 493.9 ms for Qwen3.5-0.8B generation and 388.4 ms for OneJev1.6-0.8B: $5.47\times$ and $4.30\times$ speedups based on median request times in the measured FP32/MPS implementations. Its mean raw accuracy is 85.3%, versus 42.5% for frozen Laya, 40.7% for Qwen generation and 58.6% for OneJev. As cloud accuracy references, original Jev 1.14/1.13 reach 87.4/81.9%.

PPA-Game: Characterizing and Learning Competitive Dynamics Among Online Content Creators

Renzhe Xu, Haotian Wang, Xingxuan Zhang, Bo Li, Peng Cui

In this paper, we present the Proportional Payoff Allocation Game (PPA-Game), which characterizes situations where agents compete for divisible resources. In the PPA-game, agents select from available resources, and their payoffs are proportionately determined based on heterogeneous weights attributed to them. Such dynamics simulate content creators on online recommender systems like YouTube and TikTok, who compete for finite consumer attention, with content exposure reliant on inherent and distinct quality. We first conduct a game-theoretical analysis of the PPA-Game. While the PPA-Game does not always guarantee the existence of a pure Nash equilibrium (PNE), we identify prevalent scenarios ensuring its existence. Simulated experiments further prove that the cases where PNE does not exist rarely happen. Beyond analyzing static payoffs, we further discuss the agents' online learning about resource payoffs by integrating a multi-player multi-armed bandit framework. We propose an online algorithm facilitating each agent's maximization of cumulative payoffs over $T$ rounds. Theoretically, we establish that the regret of any agent is bounded by $O(\log^{1 + η} T)$ for any $η> 0$. Empirical results further validate the effectiveness of our online learning approach.

Beyond Words Alone: Disentangling Distributed Evidence for Visually Grounded Cultural Translation

Dingming Li, Yiwen Qiu, Linjuan Wu, Hongxing Li, Zixuan Wang, Xinze Lyu, Ye Guo, Daoxin Zhang 等 11 位作者

Social media enables cross-lingual communication, yet the meaning of user-generated content (UGC) is often distributed across text, images, and cultural knowledge, making translation challenging. Existing evaluations typically treat images as optional and assume textual information is sufficient, obscuring whether errors stem from missing visual evidence or inadequate cultural adaptation. We introduce \textbf{Culture-MMT}, a diagnostic benchmark for \textbf{distributed-evidence pragmatic reconstruction} in social-media translation. It contains 498 curated, de-identified UGC instances across 20 domains, categorized into Symbol, Visual, and Hybrid by their required evidence. We also develop a human-aligned domain-specific judge, Judger, and a controlled evaluation framework that systematically varies the evidence available to translators. Across 17 model configurations, real images improve performance by +0.280 on Visual and +0.197 on Hybrid, but only +0.050 on Symbol, while random images provide no comparable gains. Human-authored descriptions further show that jointly dependent cases remain more challenging even when visual facts are explicit. These results characterize culturally effective social-media translation as {meaning reconstruction from distributed evidence}, highlighting visual grounding and cultural-pragmatic adaptation as distinct model bottlenecks.

ArrayTac: A Closed-Loop Piezoelectric Tactile Platform for Continuously Tunable Rendering of Shape, Stiffness, and Friction

Tianhai Liang, Shiyi Guo, Baiye Cheng, Zhengrong Xue, Han Zhang, Huazhe Xu

Human touch depends on the integration of shape, stiffness, and friction, yet existing tactile displays cannot render these cues together as continuously tunable, high-fidelity signals for intuitive perception. We present ArrayTac, a closed-loop piezoelectric tactile platform that simultaneously renders these three tactile dimensions with continuous tunability on a 4 by 4 actuator array. Each unit integrates a three-stage micro-lever amplifier with end-effector Hall-effect feedback, enabling up to 5 mm displacement, an array refresh rate greater than 500 Hz, and a closed-loop bandwidth of 123 Hz. In psychophysical experiments, naive participants identified three-dimensional shapes and distinguished multiple stiffness and friction levels through touch alone without training. We further demonstrate image-to-touch rendering from an RGB image and remote palpation of a medical-grade breast tumor phantom across a distance of more than 1,000 km, in which all 11 participants correctly identified the number and type of tumors with a sub-centimeter mean localization error. Together, these results establish ArrayTac as a programmable multidimensional tactile rendering platform that bridges digital representations, physical environments, and human tactile perception, enabling intuitive tactile communication between humans and machines.

PersonaCUABench: Benchmarking Computer-Use Agents Serving Diverse Personas

Haoming Li, Defu Cao, Xu Hu, Yingtao Luo, Yiyang Wang, Xianghe Xu, Jiashu He, Wanting Jiang 等 26 位作者

Computer-use agents (CUAs) are commonly evaluated against fixed task specifications, but users may omit requirements, add constraints, or require approval before consequential actions. Completing the benchmark instruction does not guarantee serving the person who asked. We introduce PersonaCUABench, which holds 74 tasks across 11 domains fixed and varies only who asks. A persona agent, playing one of 44 personas in four groups, rewrites each instruction in that user's own words and answers the CUA's questions, while the CUA sees only the dialogue, never the profile or the original instruction. Across nine backbones (3,330 runs), mean task completion falls by 36% relative to the original requests. The losses have two sources: in 59.9% of cells that lose points, the agent engages with what the user asked for and still gets it wrong, and 11.2% are stops the user requested that the checker scores as failures. Even when a persona request is fully completed, the user gives the top satisfaction rating in only 62.7% of cells, against 84.1% for the original requests. CUAs should therefore be evaluated not only on task completion but also on whether they meet the requirements and constraints users express. Code: https://github.com/MatrAIx-ai/PersonaCUABench. Attention Basin: Why Contextual Position Matters in Large Language Models

Zihao Yi, Zhenqing Ling Alibaba Group, Delong Zeng, Haohao Luo SUN YAT-SEN UNIVERSITY, Zhe Xu, Wei Liu, Jian Luan Xiaomi Corporation, Wanxia Cao 等 9 位作者

The performance of Large Language Models (LLMs) is significantly sensitive to the contextual position of information in the input. To investigate the mechanism behind this positional bias, our extensive experiments reveal a consistent phenomenon we term the attention basin: when presented with a sequence of structured items (e.g., retrieved documents or few-shot examples), models systematically assign higher attention to the items at the beginning and end of the sequence, while neglecting those in the middle. Crucially, our analysis further reveals that allocating higher attention to critical information is key to enhancing model performance. Based on these insights, we introduce Attention-Driven Reranking (AttnRank), a two-stage framework that (i) estimates a model’s intrinsic positional attention preferences using a small calibration set, and (ii) reorders retrieved documents or few-shot examples to align the most salient content with these high-attention positions. AttnRank is a model-agnostic, training-free, and plug-and-play method with minimal computational overhead. Experiments on multi-hop QA and few-shot in-context learning tasks demonstrate that AttnRank achieves substantial improvements across 10 large language models of varying architectures and scales, without modifying model parameters or training procedures.

ProMedical: Hierarchical Fine-Grained Criteria Modeling for Medical LLM Alignment via Explicit Injection

He Geng, Yangmin Huang IFLYTEK CO.LTD., Lixian Lai Xunfei Healthcare, Qianyun Du IFLYTEK CO.LTD., Hui Chu, Zhiyang He Xunfei Healthcare Technology Co., Ltd., Jiaxue Hu IFLYTEK CO.LTD., Xiaodong Tao Xunfei Healthcare Co. Ltd

Aligning Large Language Models (LLMs) with high-stakes medical standards remains a significant challenge, primarily due to the dissonance between coarse-grained preference signals and the complex, multi-dimensional nature of clinical protocols. To bridge this gap, we introduce \textit{ProMedical}, a unified alignment framework grounded in fine-grained clinical criteria. We first construct \textit{ProMedical-Preference-50k}, a dataset generated via a human-in-the-loop pipeline that augments medical instructions with rigorous, physician-derived rubrics. Leveraging this corpus, we propose the Explicit Criteria Injection paradigm to train a multi-dimensional reward model. Unlike traditional scalar reward models, our approach explicitly disentangles safety constraints from general proficiency, enabling precise guidance during reinforcement learning. To rigorously validate this framework, we establish \textit{ProMedical-Bench}, a held-out evaluation suite anchored by double-blind expert adjudication. Empirical evaluations demonstrate that optimizing the Qwen3-8B base model via \textit{ProMedical-RM}-guided GRPO yields substantial gains, improving overall accuracy by 22.3% and safety compliance by 21.7%, effectively rivaling proprietary frontier models. Furthermore, the aligned policy generalizes robustly to external benchmarks, demonstrating performance comparable to state-of-the-art models on UltraMedical. We publicly release our datasets, reward models, and benchmarks to facilitate reproducible research in safety-aware medical alignment.

Temporal Precision Matters: Brain-Tuning Speech Language Models with Millisecond-Resolution Neural Signals

Zhejun Zhang Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Wenqing Zhou Beijing University of Post and Telecommunications, Haozhe Xu, Lin Zhang Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Lei Li Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications

Brain-tuning enhances brain alignment and downstream performance by fine-tuning speech language models with neural recordings. However, previous work relies primarily on fMRI, whose temporal resolution integrates neural activity over seconds, blending distinct processing stages into a single supervision signal and precluding temporally targeted training. We introduce ECoG-tuning, which leverages electrocorticography’s millisecond precision to train speech language models. We design temporally targeted windows—a speech window capturing acoustic-phonetic encoding and a language window capturing higher-order linguistic processing—grounded in neuroscientific findings about temporal encoding hierarchies. Evaluating three models on the Podcast ECoG dataset, we find that ECoG-tuning significantly improves brain alignment over pretrained and distillation baselines. Notably, full spatiotemporal dynamics yield 7–17% higher alignment than time-averaged supervision across models, and language-window tuning produces larger gains in higher-order language regions, indicating that temporal precision provides additional training value. Moreover, ECoG-tuned models consistently improve or maintain downstream performance. Overall, our work provides initial evidence that electrophysiology is a viable brain-tuning modality, demonstrating how neuroscientific insights into processing hierarchies can inform principled model training strategies. Code is available at https://github.com/Mochizuki-BUPT/ECoG-Tuning-main.
