FindLink: Learning to Assess Scientific Connections from Source-Grounded Premises

原文摘要

Scientific discovery from the literature requires assessing connections among findings obtained under different study conditions. Source attribution makes individual findings traceable, but does not determine what they jointly support. We introduce GI-TraceBench, a benchmark of 10,282 questions in gastrointestinal oncology that unifies provenance question answering, knowledge discovery, and hypothesis evaluation through shared Paper, Claim, and Evidence Span records. We further propose FindLink, a two-stage framework for provenance-grounded scientific reasoning. Premise Grounding constructs source-bound premises with explicit study context and support status. Structured Reasoning organizes these premises into support plans that represent both supported relations and unresolved conditions, then generates evidence-conditioned answers using deterministic compiler feedback. The compiler verifies structural and source-binding consistency, but does not assess scientific entailment. On the 1,545-question fixed-evidence test set, FindLink improves the balanced family macro score from 67.95 to 87.25 over direct supervised fine-tuning of the same backbone. A retrained variant without Structured Reasoning achieves slightly higher premise-identifier F1, but substantially lower relation and evidence-sufficiency F1. These results indicate that scientific reasoning requires not only identifying grounded premises, but also assessing what connections those premises support.

原文摘要

Radiologists interpret computed tomography (CT) scans by jointly determining what a finding represents and where it lies in three-dimensional (3D) anatomy. However, CT models have treated CT interpretation and 3D segmentation as separate tasks, leaving textual findings spatially unverifiable and overlooking potential synergy between clinical understanding and spatial perception. Here we present HoloCT, a generalist 3D foundation model unifying CT interpretation and voxel-level segmentation by jointly modelling whole-volume context and fine-grained anatomical detail, providing 3D masks as evidence. We curated HoloDATA, comprising 195,921 CT scans from 73 public datasets and six clinical cohorts, with 6.2 million instruction dialogues and 2.8 million CT-mask pairs. Across 346 tasks spanning segmentation, lesion screening, visual question answering, and report generation on 61 internal and 12 external datasets, HoloCT outperformed specialist and foundation models. In multicentre validation across 11,455 clinical CT scans from five hospitals, HoloCT outperformed competing models in lesion segmentation and report generation by 18.2 and 15.3 points. It also achieved 85.1% mean accuracy in screening thyroid tumours and colon lesions, exceeding all four participating radiologists in a retrospective reader study. Further analyses revealed bidirectional semantic-spatial synergy: language-guided segmentation delineated unseen anatomical structures and lesions as well as diffuse free-text findings, outperforming the leading approach by 22.1 points, whereas prompting the model to generate corresponding 3D masks alongside its textual outputs significantly improved interpretation performance. HoloCT shows that clinical understanding and spatial perception can be learned together within a single foundation model and offers a path towards more accurate and reliable CT analysis.

VL-Dedup: Graded Multimodal Entity Resolution for Image-Text Data Deduplication

原文摘要

Image-text corpora contain copies of one image, captions that describe one image in different ways, captions reused for different images, and captions that do not match their images. Each case calls for a different curation action. Deduplication and multimodal entity resolution (ER) only decide whether records are the same, and they are evaluated on labeled pairs. Yet pair scores do not tell which records end up in the same cluster or which useful captions get deleted. We therefore formulate image-text deduplication as graded multimodal ER, which decides visual identity, caption handling, and mismatches for each pair, and we evaluate it at three levels: pairs, clusters, and the retained set. Our method, VL-Dedup, groups records of the same visual entity into clusters and caps the size of each cluster. Within each cluster, a vision-language model (VLM) and CLIPScore decide which captions to keep and which to flag. We also build VL-DedupBench, with 50,000 COCO and SOP records and 66,788 labeled pairs. On it, a classifier that selects no false edge among the labeled pairs still joins millions of record pairs from different entities. Spending VLM calls on the pairs inside clusters, rather than on pairs with uncertain scores, gives better caption decisions from the same model. Even when almost all clusters are correct, keeping one record per cluster loses facts in many deletions, while the deletions of VL-Dedup lose much less information.

HaltNav: Reactive Visual Halting over Lightweight Topological Priors for Robust Vision-Language Navigation

Zihui Yu, Pingcong Li, Bichi Zhang, Sören Schwertfeger

原文摘要

Vision-and-Language Navigation (VLN) is shifting from rigid, step-by-step instruction following toward open-vocabulary, goal-oriented autonomy. Achieving this transition without exhaustive routing prompts requires agents to leverage structural priors. While prior work often assumes computationally heavy 2D/3D metric maps, we instead exploit a lightweight, text-based osmAG (OpenStreetMap Area Graph), a floorplan-level topological representation that is easy to obtain and maintain. However, global planning over a prior map alone is brittle in real-world deployments, where local connectivity can change (e.g., closed doors or crowded passages), leading to execution-time failures. To address this gap, we propose a hierarchical navigation framework HaltNav that couples the robust global planning of osmAG with the local exploration and instruction-grounding capability of VLN. Our approach features an MLLM-based brain module, which is capable of high-level task grounding and obstruction awareness. Conditioned on osmAG, the brain converts the global route into a sequence of localized execution snippets, providing the VLN executor with prior-grounded, goal-centric sub-instructions. Meanwhile, it detects local anomalies via a mechanism we term Reactive Visual Halting (RVH), which interrupts the local control loop, updates osmAG by invalidating the corresponding topology, and triggers replanning to orchestrate a viable detour. To train this halting capability efficiently, we introduce a data synthesis pipeline that leverages generative models to inject realistic obstacles into otherwise navigable scenes, substantially enriching hard negative samples. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our hierarchical framework outperforms several baseline methods without tedious language instructions, and significantly improves robustness for long-horizon vision-language navigation under environmental changes.

Certifiable inversion of resampling-induced spectral distortion in high-dimensional particle filters

Deming Song, Chi-Kin Lam, Kefeng Li, Hui Yu, Xilin Li, Huagang Lin

原文摘要

This paper formulates and solves the inverse problem of recovering the pre-resampling spectrum of a particle filter's ensemble covariance from the importance weights and the observed spectrum alone. Resampling controls weight degeneracy, but in high dimensions it also distorts that spectrum: the distortion is a free multiplicative convolution with a law computable from the weights, so the repair is a deconvolution. We first extend the forward spectral law to random importance weights by conditioning on the weights together with the realized offspring counts rather than on the weights alone, which makes the distortion law deterministic at the observed data and gives the zero-atom mass of the limiting law a direct reading as an effective-dimension proxy for the second-order information the filter has lost. Second, a regularized free deconvolution inverts the distortion with an explicit error budget at a fixed resolution scale, and a computable forward residual certifies when the model behind it is violated. Injectivity makes the inverse identifiable but not stable, so the budget rests on a resolution-restricted condition number whose positivity we prove, and is vacuous below that resolution rather than concealed in a hypothesis. Third, the repaired spectrum enters only as the preconditioner of a Metropolis-adjusted rejuvenation move, so spectral error changes the mixing constants and not the invariant target, and the full cycle obeys a geometrically summable error recursion whose abstention term is governed by when abstentions fall rather than how many occur. Pre-registered simulations confirm the forward law, an order-of-magnitude reduction of spectral error, and the abstention law. The repair recovers eigenvalue laws, not eigenvectors.

MLLM-GS: Multimodal Large Language Model Prior-Guided Fast Novel View Synthesis in Extreme Environments

原文摘要

Novel view synthesis (NVS) in degraded scenes aims to reconstruct 3D scenes from multi-view observations affected by various degradations, and to generate clear and photorealistic images at unseen viewpoints. Despite recent advances, existing methods often rely on degradation-specific models, limiting their generalization across diverse extreme environments. Generative models provide rich visual priors, but their outputs often suffer from pixel misalignment and color deviations, which can propagate into the reconstructed 3D scene and compromise reconstruction quality. Furthermore, the high computational and memory costs of 3D reconstruction hinder the practical application of NVS in extreme environments. To this end, we propose MLLM-GS, a multimodal large language model (MLLM) prior-guided framework for fast NVS in extreme environments. MLLM-GS consists of two branches: MLLM prior-guided view enhancement and fast 3D scene reconstruction. The former leverages the rich visual priors of a frozen MLLM to enhance views under different severe degradations and introduces a lightweight correction network to reduce pixel shifts and color distortions in MLLM outputs. With supervision from only a few paired clean views, this branch produces reliable enhanced views for all degraded observations, providing pseudo-GT views for subsequent 3D reconstruction. The latter improves 3DGS efficiency by optimizing rasterization, Gaussian memory layout, and parameter updates, reducing redundant computation, memory-access overhead, and optimization costs. Extensive experiments on multiple degraded scenes demonstrate that MLLM-GS effectively handles various severe degradations and achieves high-quality NVS with significantly lower reconstruction time and memory consumption. TP-JSCC: Efficient Token Pruning and Joint Source-Channel Coding for LVLMs-based 3D-VQA in Cloud-Edge Collaboration

Zhengxin Li, Chongzhen Tian, Hui Yuan, Hao Liu, Sam Kwong

原文摘要

Deploying large vision-language models (LVLMs) on resource-constrained embodied agents for 3D visual question answering necessitates cloud-edge collaboration. However, offloading massive visual data to the cloud over bandwidth-limited and noisy channels introduces severe latency and transmission distortion. To address this, we propose TP-JSCC, an efficient token pruning and joint source-channel coding method for LVLMs-based 3D-VQA in Cloud-Edge Collaboration. First, we develop a Local and Global Semantics-based Hybrid Token Pruning (LGS-HTP) module to significantly reduce the visual token count. By decoupling foreground-background tokens and jointly selecting local and global semantics, LGS-HTP effectively reduces redundancy while preserving reasoning-critical tokens. Second, we introduce a lightweight Token Joint Source-Channel Coding (T-JSCC) module to further compress the pruned tokens and ensure their robust transmission over error-prone channels. By employing lightweight cascaded linear layers and Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR)-adaptive mechanism, this module adapts to fluctuating channel conditions while maintaining minimal computational overhead. Extensive experiments on ScanQA and SQA3D datasets indicate the exceptional efficiency and robustness of our approach. Specifically, on ScanQA validation set, the LGS-HTP module could achieve 90% pruning ratio while incurring less than a 1% CIDEr loss. Building on this, the T-JSCC further compresses the tokens by 18 times, resulting in an overall 180 times data volume reduction for robust transmission, while saving 90% in computational complexity for LVLM deployment. LC-GRPO: Bridging Train-Inference Gap for Flow-Based GRPO with Langevin Correction

Yingqing Guo, Hui Yuan, Zijian He, Mengdi Wang, Zheng Ding

原文摘要

Flow-based generative models are typically sampled by solving a deterministic ordinary differential equation (ODE), whereas reinforcement learning (RL) requires stochastic rollouts for exploration and optimization. Existing online RL methods for flow models therefore replace the inference-time ODE with a stochastic differential equation (SDE) during training. Although the ODE and SDE share the same marginal distribution in continuous time, they can behave differently after finite-step discretization. In particular, SDE rollouts often become blurry as exploration noise increases, creating a mismatch between training rollouts and inference-time ODE samples. We introduce LC-GRPO, a flow-based GRPO framework with Langevin correction. Each rollout transition takes an inference-aligned ODE Euler step followed by a stochastic Langevin correction targeting the marginal at the resulting timestep. The required score is recovered directly from the flow velocity, requiring no additional score model, while the transition remains an isotropic Gaussian with tractable likelihood. We theoretically show that, under suitable conditions, a single Langevin correction step reduces the error of an imperfect ODE Euler step and, under matched randomness, yields a more accurate transition than standard Euler--Maruyama discretization of the reverse SDE. Additionally, experiments on SD3.5-Medium, FLUX.1-Dev, and HunyuanVideo show that LC-GRPO consistently improves reward optimization across text-to-image and text-to-video tasks, preserves generation quality, and substantially narrows the gap between stochastic training rollouts and deterministic ODE inference.

GenProve: Learning to Generate Text with Fine-Grained Provenance

原文摘要

Large language models (LLM) often hallucinate, and while adding citations is a common solution, it is frequently insufficient for accountability as users struggle to verify how a cited source supports a generated claim. Existing methods are typically coarse-grained and fail to distinguish between direct quotes and complex reasoning. In this paper, we introduce Generation-time Fine-grained Provenance, a task where models must generate fluent answers while simultaneously producing structured, sentence-level provenance triples. To enable this, we present ReFInE (Relation-aware Fine-grained Interpretability Evidence), a dataset featuring expert-verified annotations that distinguish between Quotation, Compression, and Inference. Building on ReFInE, we propose GenProve, a framework that combines Supervised Fine-Tuning (SFT) with Group Relative Policy Optimization (GRPO). By optimizing a composite reward for answer fidelity and provenance correctness, GenProve significantly outperforms 14 strong LLMs in joint evaluation. Crucially, our analysis uncovers a reasoning gap where models excel at surface-level quotation but struggle significantly with inference-based provenance, suggesting that verifiable reasoning remains a frontier challenge distinct from surface-level citation.
