Clinical genomic analysis requires experts to integrate evolving guidelines, databases, and computational evidence. As sequencing has become increasingly accessible, this complex and labor-intensive process has become a major bottleneck to the timely use of genomic information in clinical decision-making. To fill this gap, we developed ClinGeX, a large-language-model agent that composes 105 curated executable skills through task-specific retrieval and dependency-aware orchestration. On 223 temporally held-out benchmark cases, ClinGeX achieved 71.7\% macro-averaged task-level concordance with expert reference classifications, compared with 45.7\% for the strongest comparator. In a three-condition, counterbalanced human-AI collaboration study, 45 clinical genomic professionals assessed 135 clinically derived cases under routine (no AI assistance), DeepSeek-assisted and ClinGeX-assisted conditions. ClinGeX assistance increased raw case-level concordance across criterion-level variant analysis, genomic interpretation in rare disease and molecular oncology decision-making (51.1\%, 57.8\%, 64.4\% versus 15.6\%, 31.1\%, 20.0\% in comparator conditions) and reduced reported interpretation time in all scenarios. During an exploratory one-month real-world non-interventional assessment, 11 experienced professionals submitted feedback on 96 self-selected analysis episodes and reported frequent conclusion adoption and time savings. These findings support executable domain skills as a promising approach to augment specialist genomic interpretation.

VLA-Corrector: Lightweight Detect-and-Correct Inference for Adaptive Action Horizon

Vision-Language-Action (VLA) foundation models have recently achieved strong progress in embodied intelligence. To reduce policy-call frequency while preserving temporal coherence, most generative policies adopt an action chunk mechanism, executing multiple future actions in an open-loop manner under a fixed action horizon. However, this "predict-then-blindly-execute" paradigm sacrifices closed-loop reactivity: in contact-rich physical interactions, even small local perturbations can rapidly amplify within the open-loop blind spot, leading to compounding errors and ultimately task failure. To address this limitation, we propose VLA-Corrector, a lightweight corrective inference framework for action-chunked VLA policies. Without modifying the backbone policy weights, VLA-Corrector introduces a lightweight Latent-space Vision Monitor (LVM) that continuously compares predicted and actual visual feature evolution, enabling online detection of visual dynamics deviations. Once persistent deviation is detected, the system triggers a truncation event, discards the remaining stale actions, and invokes corrective replanning via Online Gradient Guidance (OGG). The detect-and-correct mechanism of VLA-Corrector naturally induces an event-triggered adaptive action horizon: it preserves long-horizon execution when the current chunk remains reliable, and invokes short-horizon corrective replanning when execution begins to drift. In doing so, VLA-Corrector mitigates the trade-off imposed by static horizons between execution robustness and policy-call frequency. It can be integrated into different VLA models without further retraining the VLA backbone, interrupting compounding errors while preserving much of the efficiency benefit of action chunking and substantially improving robustness in long-horizon, contact-rich robotic manipulation tasks.

SimRetract: Zero-Shot Sim-to-Real Robotic Assistance for Retractor Take-Over in Open Surgery

We demonstrate the first zero-shot sim-to-real transfer for a surgeon-robot collaboration task in open surgery: retractor take-over. A robot arm takes a retractor from the surgeon's hand and preserves retraction at handoff, using a policy trained only on simulated demonstrations, without human demonstrations or real-world fine-tuning. Imitation learning from real demonstrations is limited by collection and labeling costs, and by performance degradation when the environment changes. Our framework, SimRetract, generates simulated demonstrations designed for transfer: the policy observes masked instrument images and grasp geometry, learns to recover from off-nominal states, and acts with margin for execution drift. Deployed zero-shot, it grasps the retractor in 90% of 50 surgeon-defined phantom presentations and preserves retraction at handoff in 78%. Results on unseen retractors suggest potential for generalization to instruments with similar grasp geometry. Across ten policy configurations and 1,200 simulated and real trials, we localize the sim-to-real gap to components: in simulation, grasp rates across ablations span 80-96%, while on the real robot removing the instrument mask alone drops performance to 22% grasped and 12% held. Transfer-oriented design thus makes zero-shot sim-to-real transfer feasible for a surgical assistance task without human demonstrations. A systematic evaluation of vision-language models for observational astronomical reasoning tasks

Wenke Ren, Hengxiao Guo, Wenwen Zuo, Xiaoman Zhang

Vision-language models (VLMs) are increasingly proposed as general-purpose tools for scientific data interpretation, yet their reliability on real astronomical observations across diverse modalities remains untested. We present AstroVLBench, a benchmark of over 4,100 expert-verified instances across five tasks spanning optical imaging, radio interferometry, multi-wavelength photometry, time-domain light curves, and optical spectroscopy. We systematically evaluate six state-of-the-art frontier models and find that performance is strongly modality-dependent and uncorrelated with general benchmark rankings. Mechanistic cross-model ablations reveal three concrete bottlenecks. First, prompt grounding exhibits marked model and task dependence: physical guidance yields more balanced classifications on optical imaging, whereas phenomenological prompts better navigate undersampled time-domain data. Second, presenting one-dimensional measurements as numerical tables rather than rendered plots consistently improves light-curve classification across all models by up to 23 percentage points, demonstrating that plot rendering can obscure physically relevant signal. Third, an expert audit of optical spectroscopy reveals a notable "right-answer-wrong-reason" phenomenon: across evaluated models, an average of 26% of correct predictions are accompanied by physically inconsistent or invalid reasoning chains, showing that accuracy alone is insufficient for trustworthy scientific deployment. AstroVLBench provides the first systematic, multi-modal baselines for VLMs in observational astronomy and identifies the representation, grounding, and reasoning bottlenecks that must be addressed before VLMs can be trusted as autonomous scientific interpreters.

Beyond Surface Features: Advancing Medical Vision-Language Alignment via Dynamic Evidence-Guided Preference Optimization

Zixuan Huang, Zhihong Zhu Tencent, Xiaolong Liu, Yanchao Hao Tencent PCG, Manman Zhang Tencent PCG, Zheng Wei Tencent Technology (Beijing) Company Limited, Bowen Xing University of Science and Technology Beijing, Xian Wu Tencent 等 11 位作者

Medical large Vision-Language Models (Med-LVLMs) have shown strong potential in multimodal clinical applications such as medical visual question answering and report generation. However, Med-LVLMs remain challenged by hallucinations caused by modality misalignment, where models prioritize textual knowledge over visual evidence and generate outputs that conflict with medical images. To mitigate this issue, recent studies have explored preference optimization to improve image–text alignment, achieving promising results. Despite these advances, existing preference-based methods still face two limitations in medical settings: (1) overfitting to superficial cues, and (2) pseudo convergence of the preference signal. In this paper, we propose Dynamic Evidence-Guided Preference Optimization (DEPO), a new framework that enables evidence-aware and adaptive preference learning for Med-LVLMs. DEPO introduces Multi-Modal Evidence Perturbation (MEP) to suppress non-causal textual and visual shortcuts, and Dispreferred Evidence Resampling (DER) to continuously update dispreferred responses as hallucination patterns evolve. Experiments on multiple medical VQA and report generation benchmarks demonstrate consistent improvements over existing methods, with strong robustness across datasets and architectures. All Codes and data will be released after review.

Visually-Guided Policy Optimization for Multimodal Reasoning

Zengbin Wang Alibaba Group, Feng Xiong Harbin Institute of Technology, Liang Lin, Xuecai Hu AMAP, Alibaba Group, Yong Wang, Yanlin Wang Sun Yat-Sen University, Man Zhang Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Xiangxiang Chu Alibaba Group

Reinforcement learning with verifiable rewards (RLVR) has significantly advanced the reasoning ability of vision-language models (VLMs). However, the inherent text-dominated nature of VLMs often leads to insufficient visual faithfulness, characterized by sparse attention activation to visual tokens. More importantly, our empirical analysis reveals that temporal visual forgetting along reasoning steps exacerbates this deficiency. To bridge this gap, we propose Visually-Guided Policy Optimization (VGPO), a novel framework to reinforce visual focus during policy optimization. Specifically, VGPO initially introduces a Visual Attention Compensation mechanism that leverages visual similarity to localize and amplify visual cues, while progressively elevating visual expectations in later steps to counteract visual forgetting. Building on this mechanism, we implement a dual-grained advantage re-weighting strategy: the intra-trajectory level highlights tokens exhibiting relatively high visual activation, while the inter-trajectory level prioritizes trajectories demonstrating superior visual accumulation. Extensive experiments demonstrate that VGPO achieves better visual activation and superior performance in mathematical multimodal reasoning and visual-dependent tasks. The code has been released at https://github.com/wzb-bupt/VGPO.
