VibeVideoBench: Evaluating Multimodal Agents on Code-Driven Video Generation

Diffusion video models produce striking clips, but they cannot reliably render an exact formula, a correct chart, a rule-consistent game or narration synchronized to on-screen events. A different route is emerging: multimodal agents that write code to render every frame and synthesize every sound. We introduce VibeVideoBench, a benchmark for evaluating agents on code-driven video generation. Its 239 self-contained tasks in English and Chinese span 12 categories, from data stories and music-driven pieces to classroom lessons and paper explainers; each asks an agent, running in its native harness inside a sandbox with no image or video generation model, to deliver a finished MP4 with sound within one hour. Evaluation is hierarchical and evidence-based: program checks of the delivery spec, about 13k task-specific rubric checks traced to the requirements they enforce, and five quality dimensions anchored per task, scored by three VLM judge panels. Across nine frontier agent systems and 2,151 scored rollouts, GPT-6 Astra and Claude Opus 5.5 rank first and second with both the judges and human annotators, and the strongest system satisfies every core requirement on 76.3% of tasks. Delivery is a second axis: counting missing videos as zero changes the ranking, and three quarters of the lost videos are final renders that started too late, ran too slowly or never started, a failure of how agents plan their hour. Agents build their own rendering pipelines and inspect their own frames, yet how much they look does not predict quality. The judges' ranking of the systems closely matches blind human preferences.

Anchored Stein Variational Gradient Descent Algorithm for Non-smooth Sampling

Thanh Dang, Matthew X. Burns, Jiaming Liang

We introduce a Stein variational framework for sampling from a target density $p\propto e^{-U}$ when the target potential $U$ is possibly non-smooth. The key idea is to introduce a smoother reference potential $U_0$ and the anchor weight $a=e^{U-U_0}$. The resulting anchored Stein variational gradient descent (SVGD) algorithm is able to target $p\propto e^{-U}$ without computing the gradient of $U$ and include standard SVGD as a special case. In particular, we allow the target potential $U$ to be locally Lipschitz while the reference potential $U_0$ is continuously differentiable, along with other suitable assumptions. Under this low regularity regime, we establish a Kullback-Leibler first variation formula for anchored perturbations, identify the corresponding steepest descent direction in the reproducing kernel Hilbert space and prove a nonasymptotic convergence bound for the anchored SVGD algorithm in terms of an anchored kernelized Stein discrepancy. Finally, we also provide guidance on constructing a suitable reference potential $U_0$ based on $U$.

EGSS: Entropy-guided Stepwise Scaling for Reliable Software Engineering

Agentic Test-Time Scaling (TTS) has delivered state-of-the-art (SOTA) performance on complex software engineering tasks such as code generation and bug fixing. However, its practical adoption remains limited due to significant computational overhead, primarily driven by two key challenges: (1) the high cost associated with deploying excessively large ensembles, and (2) the lack of a reliable mechanism for selecting the optimal candidate solution—ultimately constraining the performance gains that can be realized. To address these challenges, we propose Entropy-Guided Stepwise Scaling (EGSS), a novel TTS framework that dynamically balances efficiency and effectiveness through entropy-guided adaptive search and robust test-suite augmentation.Extensive experiments on SWE-Bench-Verified demonstrate that EGSS consistently boosts performance by 5–10% across all evaluated models. Specifically, it increases the resolved ratio of Kimi-K2-Intruct from 63.2% to 72.2%, and GLM-4.6 from 65.8% to 74.6%. Furthermore, when paired with GLM-4.6, EGSS achieves new state-of-the-art among open-source large language models. In addition to these accuracy improvements, EGSS reduces inference-time token usage by over 28% compared to existing TTS methods, achieving simultaneous gains in both effectiveness and computational efficiency.

EfficientLLM: Unified Pruning-Aware Pretraining for Auto-Designed Compact Language Models

Modern large language models (LLMs) driven by scaling laws achieve emergent intelligence in large model sizes. Recently, the increasing concerns about cloud costs, latency and privacy make it an urgent requirement to develop compact edge language models. Distinguished from direct pretraining that bounded by parameter scaling law, this work proposes the unified pruning-aware pretraining, focusing on pretraining compact models while preserving performance of much larger source models, termed EfficientLLM. It features following characteristics: 1) Pruning in Pretraining Corpus: we introduce minimal parameter groups to decouple LLMs and continuously optimize model architecture with classic pruning methods like LLM-Pruner and SparseGPT during pretraining. We reveal that it achieves top-quality compact language models to scale up LLM pruning to large scale pretraining. 2) Auto-Designed Architecture: the LLM architecture is auto-designed during saliency-driven pruning, unifying pretraining, architectural design, and parameter pruning into a single process. Based on these, EfficientLLM significantly outperforms directly pretrained baselines with 100M \sim 1B parameters, such as MobileLLM, SmolLM, Qwen2.5-0.5B, OLMo-1B, Llama3.2-1B in commen sense benchmarks, which bridges the performance gap between traditional LLM compression and direct pretraining. SynthAgent: Adapting Web Agents with Synthetic Supervision

Zhaoyang Wang, Yiming Liang Purdue University, Xuchao Zhang Microsoft, Qianhui Wu Microsoft, Siwei Han, Anson Bastos Microsoft, Rujia Wang Microsoft, Chetan Bansal Microsoft 等 12 位作者

Web agents struggle to adapt to new websites due to the scarcity of environment specific tasks and demonstrations. Recent works have explored synthetic data generation to address this challenge, however, they suffer from data quality issues where synthesized tasks contain hallucinations that cannot be executed, and collected trajectories are noisy with redundant or misaligned actions. In this paper, we propose SynthAgent, a fully synthetic supervision framework that aims at improving synthetic data quality via dual refinement of both tasks and trajectories. Our approach begins by synthesizing diverse tasks through categorized exploration of web elements, ensuring efficient coverage of the target environment. During trajectory collection, tasks are refined only when conflicts with observations are detected, which mitigates hallucinations while preserving task consistency. After collection, we conduct trajectory refinement with global context to mitigate potential noise or misalignments. Finally, we fine-tune open-source web agents on the refined synthetic data to adapt them to the target environment. Experimental results demonstrate that SynthAgent outperforms existing synthetic data methods, validating the importance of high-quality synthetic supervision. The code is publicly available at https://github.com/aiming-lab/SynthAgent.
