GPU-Accelerated Bregman Douglas-Rachford Splitting for Discrete Optimal Transport

Yifan Xu, Shiqian Ma

We present GPU-accelerated Bregman Douglas--Rachford splitting algorithm (BDRS) for discrete optimal transport problem in three input formats: an explicit cost matrix, a point cloud with a ground cost between them, and a separable cost on a regular grid. For each input format, we propose hardware-aware designs of mathematically equivalent representations for the BDRS iterations to enhance numerical stability and empirical runtime. We benchmark the three proposed implementations against eight GPU baseline solvers from the literature on the same device. We demonstrate that our implementations of BDRS achieve state-of-the-art performance on their respective input formats. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first cross-solver study of GPU DOT solvers with a unified measure of optimality.

CodeCap-Bench: Can Code Serve as a Good Video Caption?

Jiafu Tang, Yifan Xu, Eric Tang, Junjie Zhao, Shipeng Luo, Te Sun, Haoxuan Hu, Yiyan Ji 等 14 位作者

Video captioning aims to preserve visual information through compact descriptions, predominantly using natural language. However, precisely expressing fine-grained spatial structures and temporal dynamics in natural language often leads to lengthy and potentially ambiguous descriptions. In this work, we explore Code as Video Caption, a paradigm where executable programs serve as a complementary representation of visual content through graphical primitives, layout rules, and functions of time. To examine whether code captions effectively preserve video information, we compare them with natural language captions on downstream question answering and video reconstruction tasks. Our results show that code captions achieve superior reasoning accuracy and reconstruction fidelity. Despite these advantages, realizing the potential of code captioning depends on whether current multimodal large language models (MLLMs) can generate faithful code captions. To systematically assess this capability, we introduce CodeCap-Bench, which comprises 323 videos spanning five categories of structured 2D content, along with fine-grained annotations and a multi-level evaluation framework. Extensive experiments reveal that while leading proprietary MLLMs demonstrate promising code captioning capabilities, they still struggle to faithfully capture complex temporal dynamics, with open-source models lagging substantially behind.

KARL: Reinforcement Learning for LLM Agents on Multi-Turn Knowledge-Intensive Agentic Tasks

Xueqiao Sun, Xiao Liu, Bowen Lv, Hanchen Zhang, Bohao Jing, Zehan Qi, Yifan Xu Tsinghua University, Tsinghua University, Yuxiao Dong Tsinghua University 等 9 位作者

Large Language Models have shown remarkable potential as autonomous agents, but their effectiveness in knowledge-intensive tasks remains limited by passive knowledge utilization. We introduce KARL (Knowledge-Augmented Reinforcement Learning), a framework that enables LLM agents to dynamically explore structured knowledge sources through multi-turn interactions. Unlike existing retrieval-augmented approaches, KARL empowers agents to proactively decide when and what knowledge to acquire during task execution. Our framework incorporates online reinforcement learning with curiosity-driven reward shaping, explicitly incentivizing knowledge exploration while optimizing tool-use behaviors end-to-end. Extensive evaluation across six structured knowledge benchmarks demonstrates that KARL achieves state-of-the-art performance, with our Qwen2.5-14B-based agent significantly outperforming GPT-4o, Claude-4, and o4-mini on both knowledge graph and database tasks.Source code is available at https://github.com/THUDM/KARL.
