Understanding Jev-Style System One Models: Does Structure Reduce Selection Bias?

Mingyang Song, Mao Zheng, Zhiyuan Ma, Xinpeng Zhou

Selection bias in large language models (LLMs) can persist despite instructions to ignore presentation order or prompts that elicit reasoning. Recent efforts to reproduce Jev-style System One behavior have produced a growing family of models that predict probabilities directly over supplied candidates. Yet systematic comparisons of selection bias across Jev versions, Jev reproductions, and generative LLMs remain limited in multi-option tasks. This leaves a central question: does Jev-style decision structure reduce selection bias? We address this question with a simple test that shuffles options while keeping question and candidate content fixed. Across two Jev versions, twelve Jev reproductions, and six generative LLMs, we trace individual answers through eight presentations and compare them with fixed-order repetition. On our primary collection of 1,700 questions from two benchmarks, Jev's accuracy varies by less than two percentage points, yet its cumulative failure set expands by 27.3-28.5% relative to the original order, with first failures continuing into the final presentation. Reordering loses substantially more initial successes than fixed-order repetition, a gap that also appears in highly repeatable Jev reproductions. Nor does Jev show a general advantage over the LLM baselines in preserving correct choices. Aggregation offers limited protection: voting yields modest gains for Jev, while even unanimous answers are frequently wrong. These results expose a gap between repeatable decisions and decisions that remain correct across equivalent presentations, showing why stable accuracy alone cannot establish resistance to selection bias.

Memorize When Needed: Decoupled Memory Control for Spatially Consistent Long-Horizon Video Generation

Yanjun Guo, Zhengqiang Zhang, Pengfei Wang, Xinyue Liang, Zhiyuan Ma, Lei Zhang

Spatially consistent long-horizon video generation aims to maintain temporal and spatial consistency along predefined camera trajectories. Existing methods mostly entangle memory modeling with video generation, leading to inconsistent content during scene revisits and diminished generative capacity when exploring novel regions, even when trained on extensive annotated data. To address these limitations, we propose a decoupled framework that separates memory conditioning from generation. Our approach significantly reduces training costs while simultaneously enhancing spatial consistency and preserving the generative capacity for novel scene exploration. Specifically, we employ a lightweight, independent memory branch to learn precise spatial consistency from historical observations. We first introduce a hybrid memory representation to capture complementary temporal and spatial cues from generated frames, then leverage a per-frame cross-attention mechanism to ensure each frame is conditioned exclusively on the most spatially relevant historical information, which is injected into the generative model to ensure spatial consistency. When generating new scenes, a camera-aware gating mechanism is proposed to mediate the interaction between memory and generation modules, enabling memory conditioning only when meaningful historical references exist. Compared with the existing method, our method is highly data-efficient, yet the experiments demonstrate that our approach achieves state-of-the-art performance in terms of both visual quality and spatial consistency. I2E: From Image Pixels to Actionable Interactive Environments for Text-Guided Image Editing

Jinghan Yu, Junhao Xiao, Chenyu Zhu, Jiaming Li, Jia Li, HanMing Deng Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Xirui Wang, Guoli Jia Tsinghua University 等 12 位作者

Existing text-guided image editing methods primarily rely on end-to-end pixel-level inpainting paradigm. Despite its success in simple scenarios, this paradigm still significantly struggles with compositional editing tasks that require precise local control and complex multi-object spatial reasoning. This paradigm is severely limited by 1) the implicit coupling of planning and execution, 2) the lack of object-level control granularity, and 3) the reliance on unstructured, pixel-centric modeling. To address these limitations, we propose I2E, a novel "Decompose-then-Action” paradigm that revisits image editing as an actionable interaction process within a structured environment. I2E utilizes a Decomposer to transform unstructured images into discrete, manipulable object layers and then introduces a physics-aware Vision-Language-Action Agent to parse complex instructions into a series of atomic actions via Chain-of-Thought reasoning. Further, we also construct I2E-Bench, a benchmark designed for multi-instance spatial reasoning and high-precision editing. Experimental results on I2E-Bench and multiple public benchmarks demonstrate that I2E significantly outperforms state-of-the-art methods in handling complex compositional instructions, maintaining physical plausibility, and ensuring multi-turn editing stability.
