An Open Book, On Whose Terms? Power Dynamics in Sensor-Derived, LLM-Generated Summaries Sharing Between Older Adults and Remote Families

原文摘要

As older adults (OAs) increasingly favor aging in place, remote family members (RFMs) need meaningful awareness of their loved ones without intrusive monitoring. Large language models can provide rich interpretations of non-intrusive sensing data, yet recent work has largely emphasized technical accuracy over how families use or benefit from this information. We conducted formative interviews with 12 RFMs and 2 OAs, followed by a three-month deployment case study with one OA-RFM dyad. Our system provided daily AI-generated summaries of multimodal sensing data, which we iteratively refined with both parties using a research-through-design approach. Although the summaries integrated well into the dyad's daily routine, sustaining over 90% engagement, their lived experience revealed evolving tensions around agency, reassurance, privacy, trust, and communication, shaped by sensor limitations and existing communication misalignments. Our findings inform the design of future AI-mediated sharing systems that account for real-world sensing constraints and complex family care dynamics.

Trajectory Evaluation via Rollout-Free World Model for End-to-end Autonomous Driving

Junzhe Wang, Jinqing Zhang, Qingjie Liu

原文摘要

Although existing candidate trajectory evaluators have substantially improved end-to-end planning accuracy, their underlying mechanism remains suboptimal. Model-based evaluators typically make scoring future-aware by explicitly predicting candidate-conditioned future states over the planning horizon, which we term rollout. However, rollout incurs high inference cost and accumulates prediction errors. We argue that planning does not require reconstructing a full future scene for each candidate, but only future-relevant information for reliable comparison. We therefore propose RFWorld, a Rollout-Free World model for end-to-end trajectory evaluation. RFWorld constructs a shared scene memory and shapes it into a future-readable representation via lightweight training-time temporal readout with semantic supervision, keeping training overhead low. At inference time, candidate trajectories directly query the shared memory via sparse spatial readout for scoring, reducing computation by roughly the planning horizon times the number of candidate trajectories, while avoiding recursive rollout errors. Experiments on NAVSIM and Bench2Drive show that RFWorld learns a more planning-aligned world representation and achieves state-of-the-art performance.

The Price of Scale in Proactive Memory Recall

Yichuan Chen, Xin Wang

原文摘要

A long-lived assistant that brings up memories without being asked must decide at every turn whether anything in its store is worth an interruption. We show that this decision is a multiple-testing problem whose difficulty grows with the store size N. On replays of LongMemEval, a similarity threshold tuned to 5% false alarms at N=8 reaches 84-100% at N=2048 across embedding models and cue types; LoCoMo and LLM judges show it too. We prove that a gate which thresholds the best of N independent irrelevant scores at false-alarm rate alpha operates at a per-item false-positive rate of about -ln(1-alpha)/N, which pins its hit rate to the far left of the ROC and makes it regularly varying in N under regular variation. Replayed hit rates stay within its bounds for mixed cues up to 0.3 points, and hit rates carry over to held-out questions to within 6.0 points. At matched false alarms the deployed score recalls 14-26 points more than raw cosine. A cue-swap conformal gate, which ranks the current cue among other cues on the same store, has a finite-sample false-alarm guarantee under exchangeability. With a background from the user's unfiltered history it keeps false alarms at 3-6% on LongMemEval at the hit rate of a label-tuned threshold; on LoCoMo it overshoots or turns conservative depending on the source of its reference cues. In a chronological replay with the user's own earlier messages as references, it fires on 5-8% of questions on stores without their answer and on 6-8% of session-opening turns, against 57% for the deployed gate at N=2048, at a median 0.4 s CPU per decision. A cross-encoder pays the same price of scale, and on a prospective-memory benchmark, similarity gates recall at most 9% of constraints at controlled false alarms. One human and two LLM annotators judge most false alarms unhelpful for a response. Code and data: https://github.com/RiverChenStillCompiling/price-of-scale

VIGOR: Visual Gain Ordering for Hallucination Mitigation in Multimodal Discrete Diffusion Language Models

Junzhe Chen, Tian Qin, Eugenie Shi, Tianshu Zhang, Qiang Ju, Lijie Wen

原文摘要

Multimodal discrete diffusion language models (dLLMs) generate responses through iterative mask prediction and offer a promising alternative to autoregressive large vision-language models. However, they still suffer from hallucination, producing outputs that are plausible under language priors but insufficiently grounded in the image. We argue that hallucination in multimodal dLLMs is not only a token prediction problem, but also a premature commitment problem: during iterative denoising, some masked positions are unmasked too early because their confidence is driven more by language priors than by visual evidence, and these early commitments can bias later generation. To address this issue, we propose Visual Gain Ordering (VIGOR), a training-free and plug-and-play inference strategy that reorders masked positions according to counterfactual visual evidence. At each denoising step, VIGOR compares the confidence of each candidate token under the original image-conditioned pass and an additional visual-ablation pass, and prioritizes positions whose predictions are more strongly supported by the image. Experiments on LLaDA-V and Lumina-DiMOO show that VIGOR consistently reduces hallucination and improves multimodal reasoning performance across benchmarks. Do Agentic Policies Need to Look at Every Step? Geometric Abstraction for Reasoning and Action

Yihang Liu, Yiming Chen, Mingzhe Zheng

原文摘要

Recent multimodal language models can reason directly about robot scenes, but it is unclear whether they need to repeatedly reinterpret raw visual observations at every step of an interaction. We propose shifting routine spatial reasoning from images to text and symbols through a 3D geometric abstraction that is refreshed locally from observations and read directly by the language models. Specifically, our interface represents scene geometry via typed, evidence-aware symbolic references to object parts, grounds them from calibrated RGB-D, and returns compact textual checkpoints with metric residuals after each action. Symbolic task structure can thus be reused across decisions while metric values are rebound to the current scene, with direct visual reasoning invoked only on demand. Across offline policy synthesis and continuous online execution, reasoning over grounded text and symbols improves multi-step manipulation completion while substantially reducing repeated multimodal queries, positioning explicit geometric state as an effective substrate for agentic robot policies.

PALM: Physically-Anchored Latent-timescale Mamba for Stable Representations under Distribution Shift

Sangyoon Bae, Shinjae Yoo, Jiook Cha

原文摘要

Scientific foundation models are built to reuse representations across datasets and acquisition protocols, yet their representations degrade under distribution shift. We trace one source of this failure to selective state-space models (SSMs). Their memory depends on the step Delta and the state matrix A only through their product, so data do not identify the physical timescale of memory, and under a shift the resulting memory no longer matches the signal's timescales. We call this failure memory-timescale misalignment. To resolve it, the split between Delta and A must be tied to physical units. We therefore propose Physically-Anchored Latent-timescale Mamba (PALM), which disentangles A from Delta by anchoring both to acquisition units: Delta through spectrum-estimated knee frequencies and A through a physical memory range. We evaluate PALM against parameter-matched baselines in two domains, under temporal-context truncation, low-resource transfer, and brain-state shift on fMRI and under held-out-station forecasting on Weather-5K. Under fMRI context truncation with run-level spectral calibration, PALM keeps its latent timescales in physical units and retains 11% higher representation similarity than Mamba2. At geographically isolated weather stations never seen during training, PALM achieves the lowest error on every variable and horizon, 15.2% below the best baseline on average, and outperforms zero-shot forecasting foundation models. Across both domains, the gains come from where the backbone places memory in physical time rather than from model size. We therefore argue that physically anchored latent timescales are a design requirement for scientific foundation models that must transfer across acquisition conditions.

TStruct: Learning Shared Temporal Structures for Long-Term Time Series Forecasting

Yangze Li, Zhengyang Zhou, Qihe Huang, Pengkun Wang, Binwu Wang, Yang Wang

原文摘要

Long-term time series forecasting requires learning temporal dependencies that remain stable and generalizable under temporal distribution shifts. However, real-world time series are often noisy, non-stationary, and heterogeneous, making deep learning models prone to overfitting incidental temporal interactions in the training data. This raises a question: when observations are difficult to align, could temporal relationships be easier to reuse? To investigate this possibility, we analyze patch-level temporal relationship matrices across commonly used time series datasets, revealing dominant patterns shared across different temporal windows and variables. Comparisons with patch-shuffled and IID Gaussian controls further support the presence of reusable temporal relationship structures. Motivated by these findings, we propose \textbf{T}emporal \textbf{Struct}ure Network (\textbf{TStruct}), a simple yet effective network that learns reusable temporal dependency structures and adaptively combines them for each sample and variable. Specifically, TStruct directly parameterizes a set of shared temporal dependency matrices and generates normalized combination weights using dynamic sample information and static variable priors. These weights represent a soft allocation of each sample-variable pair over shared temporal dependency structures, enabling the model to generate adaptive temporal dependency matrices under shared structural constraints, rather than fitting incidental interactions in a fully unconstrained manner. Notably, TStruct consistently outperforms several strong baselines across all evaluated datasets, achieving superior accuracy while maintaining high computational efficiency. SAGE: Mitigating Long-Horizon Reasoning Biases via Topological Guidance

Xinyue Zeng, Jiawei Zhang, Yujun Yan, Dawei Zhou

原文摘要

Long-horizon reasoning remains a central challenge for large language models (LLMs) under sparse-reward regimes. We argue that this brittleness arises from two biases induced by complex reasoning spaces: an exploration bias, where models are drawn toward locally plausible but structurally unstable branches, and a compounding bias, where small local deviations accumulate across depth and suppress rare rewards. We introduce Symbolic Closure Analysis (SCA) as a theoretical lens characterizing how branching structures and sparse rewards induce these biases in long-horizon reasoning with local admissibility, and as a design principle for structural priors in less formal reasoning tasks. Motivated by this analysis, we propose SAGE (Structural Admissibility-Guided Exploration), a unified framework that injects structural guidance to alleviate exploration bias and compounding bias in long-horizon reasoning. SAGE combines two complementary structural guidance: algebraic sparsification, which projects locally admissible candidates onto operator-indexed algebraic subspaces to suppress spurious branching and mitigate exploration bias, and hyperbolic structural guidance, which embeds reasoning states into a negatively curved space to provide dense depth-wise signals and mitigate compounding bias. Across 12 benchmarks and 7 model families, SAGE outperforms competitive baselines. In particular, SAGE achieves up to an 8-fold improvement on the Andrews-Curtis problem, an open real-world long-horizon task. Code is available at: https://github.com/Susan571/SAGE-NeurIPS2026.

ALBI: LLM-Guided Inductive Logic Programming via Iterative Generate-Test-Constrain Refineme

Aboubaker Seddiq Benterki, Jüri Vain, Gert Kanter, Leelo Aino Jürgenstein

原文摘要

We introduce ALBI (Agent for Learning By Induction), a neuro-symbolic ILP framework that replaces the ASP-based hypothesis generator in the Learning from Failures (LFF) paradigm with a Large Language Model (LLM), while retaining SWI-Prolog as a formal verifier. ALBI implements an iterative generate-test-constrain loop: the LLM proposes candidate hypotheses from structured prompts; Prolog tests each candidate; and diagnostic feedback drives refinement. We further introduce semantic anonymization, a metamorphic testing methodology, to distinguish structural symbolic induction from surface-level pattern matching on predicate names. Experiments on 30 standard ILP benchmarks show that ALBI achieves 100% success across three frontier LLMs (Gemini 3.1 Pro, GPT 5.4 Pro, Claude Opus 4.6), matching Popper while requiring only 1.4-1.7 iterations on average. Under anonymization, all models maintain 100% success with a moderate iteration increase (1.36-1.67 times), providing evidence of robust symbolic reasoning.

FlowDrive: moderated flow matching with data balancing for trajectory planning

Lingguang Wang, Ömer Şahin Taş, Marlon Steiner, Christoph Stiller

原文摘要

Learning-based planners are sensitive to the long-tailed distribution of driving data. Common maneuvers dominate datasets, while dangerous or rare scenarios are sparse. This imbalance can bias models toward the frequent cases and degrade performance on critical scenarios. To tackle this problem, we compare balancing strategies for sampling training data and find reweighting by trajectory pattern an effective approach. We then present FlowDrive, a flow-matching trajectory planner that learns a conditional rectified flow to map noise directly to trajectory distributions with few flow-matching steps. We further introduce moderated, in-the-loop guidance that injects small perturbation between flow steps to systematically increase trajectory diversity while remaining scene-consistent. On nuPlan and the interaction-focused interPlan benchmarks, FlowDrive achieves state-of-the-art results among learning-based planners and approaches methods with rule-based refinements. After adding moderated guidance and light post-processing (FlowDrive*), it achieves overall state-of-the-art performance across nearly all benchmark splits. Our code is available at https://github.com/einsteinguang/flow_drive_planner.

原文摘要

On-device RGB photo enhancement is a popular task that is needed for quality improvement of photos captured with mobile devices as well as for retouching of images acquired through other sources. This creates a need for efficient deep learning models for this problem that are not only performant but can also be deployed on constrained mobile hardware. In this Mobile AI challenge, we address this problem and propose participants to design fast solutions that can perform comprehensive enhancement of RGB photos while running on popular smartphone GPUs from Qualcomm and Arm. For this, the participants were provided with a large-scale DPED dataset consisting of RGB image pairs captured with an old iPhone 3GS smartphone and a professional Canon 70D DSLR camera. The runtime of all models was evaluated on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and Dimensity 9500 chipsets with the Adreno and Mali GPUs, respectively. Top solutions proposed in this challenge are able to enhance Full HD resolution RGB images on both platforms under 300 milliseconds. Rethinking GA2Ms: performance and out-of-distribution generalisation

George Dimitriadis, Damian Machlanski, Paul Clarke, Spyridon Samothrakis

原文摘要

Generalised Additive Models (GAMs) are a cornerstone of interpretable machine learning, offering transparent predictions through structured additive decompositions. Despite advances from classical GAMs to modern neural and spline-based variants, two notable gaps remain. First, comprehensive benchmarking of spline-based GAMs on large-scale tabular learning tasks, the dominant modality in applied settings, is lacking. Second, their robustness under distribution shift, a setting where structured inductive biases should confer advantages, remains unexplored. We propose a multi-resolution, higher-order Composite Generalised Additive Model (CoGA2M) and evaluate it on the TALENT benchmark suite. CoGA2M ranks in the top third across all baselines (29 for regression, 32 for classification), establishing competitive performance with state-of-the-art tabular methods. We further extend TALENT with out-of-distribution (OOD) splits exhibiting train-test distributional shift and benchmark CoGA2M against LightGBM, a consistently top-performing model on TALENT. Under distribution shift, CoGA2M outperforms LightGBM, demonstrating a clear structural advantage. Our results position spline-based GAMs as strong contenders for tabular prediction and reveal a previously unrecognised benefit of additive structure in the OOD regime.

Cassette-Editor: An Agent Harness for Editing Video the Way You Do

Zhixin Zeng, Jiahao Zhong

原文摘要

Coding agents work in an environment built for them: a compiler or a test checks each change and points to the fault, and version control keeps every change in a project people can continue. Video editing agents lack one: an edit's correctness shows only in the costly rendered video, which does not point to the decision at fault, and existing systems offer either editing operations that cover only anticipated edits or a script whose output is a video the user cannot keep editing. We present Cassette-Editor, a complete agent harness for video editing that lets the agent edit the way a person does: knowing what the project allows, seeing what each change affects, and revising from there. The agent writes patches of typed changes to the editor's timeline document. A schema check and a rulebook shared with manual editing check each patch before it commits; a rejected patch leaves the project unchanged and returns each problem located with repair options, and an accepted one becomes a step of the history the user also edits. Reads map source analysis to the frames of the current edit. Because manual gestures are writes in the same language, folded by the same executor and rulebook, the agent can express every change a manual edit makes to the project. On 31 editing requests with the model held fixed, the complete harness passed 89% of trials against 47% for the same model with ten basic editing operations and without the rulebook, at less than half the agent time and cost per successful request; the loss fell on requests at rule boundaries, composite edits, and undo, not on finding content.

Beyond the Dirac Delta: Mitigating Diversity Collapse in Reinforcement Fine-Tuning for Versatile Image Generation

原文摘要

Reinforcement learning (RL) has emerged as a paradigm for fine-tuning large-scale generative models, such as diffusion and flow models, to align with complex human preferences and user-specified tasks. A fundamental limitation remains \textit{the curse of diversity collapse}, where the objective formulation and optimization landscape inherently collapse the policy to a Dirac delta distribution. To address this challenge, we propose \textbf{DRIFT} (\textbf{D}ive\textbf{R}sity-\textbf{I}ncentivized Reinforcement \textbf{F}ine-\textbf{T}uning for Versatile Image Generation), an innovative framework that systematically incentivizes output diversity throughout the on-policy fine-tuning process, reconciling strong task alignment with high generation diversity to enhance versatility essential for applications that demand diverse candidate generations. We approach the problem across three representative perspectives: i) \textbf{sampling} a reward-concentrated subset that filters out reward outliers to prevent premature collapse; ii) \textbf{prompting} with stochastic variations to expand the conditioning space, and iii) \textbf{optimization} of the intra-group diversity with a potential-based reward shaping mechanism. Experimental results show that DRIFT exhibits clear Pareto dominance in task alignment and generation diversity, achieving 3.88\%$\sim$81.42\% higher diversity at matched alignment and 14.38\%$\sim$56.45\% higher alignment at matched diversity. Our code is available at \textcolor{magenta}{\href{https://github.com/NJU-RL/DRIFT}{https://github.com/NJU-RL/DRIFT}}.

MEMORY Wins All: Indirect Bias Injection Attacks via Social Media Content

Minjae Seo, Wonwoo Choi, Geonwoo Han, Taekyoung Kwon, Yongsu Kim, Sang Seo, Jaewon Noh, Hankyul Baek 等 10 位作者

原文摘要

Personal AI agents consume external content such as web pages and SNS feeds, and retain selected information in persistent memory. As a result, external content has become a new attack vector for memory poisoning, which steers an agent's later actions toward an adversary's bias. However, most existing attacks embed a malicious instruction in external content to make the agent retain the poisoned information, and prompt-injection filters can detect such content. We observe that agents access external content primarily through skills while curating a subset of the content into their memory. Leveraging this curation path, we present SBIA, a Stealthy Bias Injection Attack that introduces adversarial bias through ordinary external content while relying on the agent itself to perform the memory write. The adversary posts crafted comments under hot SNS feeds and distributes an SNS feed summarization skill whose curation rule admits these comments into memory. Comment cloaking expresses the bias as an ordinary opinion rather than an instruction, comment watermarking allows the skill to identify the crafted comments, and topic anchoring records them so that later related requests recall them. On BiasBench with 7,000 crafted SNS comments and seven LLMs on OpenClaw, SBIA achieves attack success rates of at least 96% across models and even 91% on GPT-5.5 in four downstream tasks. Despite this effectiveness, its skill passes all eight evaluated malicious-skill scanners and ClawHub's official skill scanning pipeline. We further propose a memory boundary defense that detects 82.1% of injected entries at a 5.6% FPR. Our findings show that external Web content and third-party skill marketplaces form a new attack surface for personal AI agent memory.

Diffusion models for eye-gaze trajectory generation using position and velocity representations

Laxman Basnet, Alexander Szorkovszky, Pedro G. Lind, Anis Yazidi, Shailendra Bhandari

原文摘要

Eye-tracking data are expensive to collect, requiring specialized hardware and controlled laboratory conditions, and difficult to share due to privacy regulations, which together limit the quantity and diversity of gaze data available for research. We investigate unconditional gaze generation using diffusion models in position and component-wise velocity representations. The models are trained and evaluated on eight-second visual-search trajectories from 28 participants, using a split of 23 training participants and five held-out validation participants, with three training seeds. Evaluation includes kinematic distributions, trajectory geometry, event statistics, and a temporal Wasserstein GAN with gradient penalty as a learned comparator. Across eight position-derived features, mean Jensen-Shannon divergence is $0.016 \pm 0.004$ for the position model and $0.037 \pm 0.002$ for the velocity model, with standard deviations calculated across training seeds. These scores do not establish that representation choice caused the difference. A separate comparison using the same evaluation method shows that the ordering of the models varies across training seeds. The position model also produces smaller feature discrepancies than a kinematic Markov baseline. Differences in saccade counts between real and generated data depend strongly on the velocity threshold used to detect events. The results provide quantitative reference measurements for unconditional gaze generation on this visual-search task and show how evaluation choices affect conclusions about generated gaze.

GeoFaham: Domain-Specialized Multi-Agent Geospatial Analytics for Disaster Response

原文摘要

Real-world geospatial decision support requires more than single-step retrieval or code generation. Disaster-response questions often involve multi-source workflows that combine spatial databases, map-derived features, satellite imagery, raster products, and reusable geospatial artifacts, where correctness depends on preserving spatial scope, temporal context, and intermediate execution state. While large language models and coding agents offer a promising interface for such workflows, they struggle with geospatial-specific failure modes, including handling large artifacts, selecting the wrong evidence source, losing spatial or temporal metadata, and applying invalid geometric operations. We introduce GeoFaham, a domain-specialized multi-agent system for geospatial disaster analytics. GeoFaham decomposes workflows into specialist agents for vector operations, map feature retrieval, imagery discovery, and raster analysis, coordinated by an Orchestrator with a dual-ledger control loop for dependency-aware planning, progress tracking, validation, and replanning. To support artifact-centric collaboration, GeoFaham uses a Response Store that persists full geospatial outputs and typed metadata outside the LLM context window while agents exchange compact identifiers and summaries. We also introduce GeoFaham-Bench, a 40-task benchmark grounded in 17 real-world disaster records, designed to evaluate multi-step geospatial reasoning, cross-source integration, raster-vector computation, artifact generation, and recovery under non-rigid ground truth. We evaluate GeoFaham on GeoFaham-Bench against strong general-purpose coding-agent baselines, including Codex, Claude Code, and OpenCode. GeoFaham achieves the best overall performance, scoring 0.940 versus the next-best 0.879, while using 7.5 times fewer tokens. Our code and benchmark are publicly available at https://github.com/microsoft/GeoFaham.

LLMs as MDP Designers: A Dependency-Aware Agentic Framework for Automated Robot Policy Generation

Hong Je-Gal, Jinwoo Kim, Chanbin Yi, Hyun-Suk Lee

原文摘要

We investigate the automated generation of executable robot reinforcement learning (RL) policies from natural-language task descriptions. Rather than using large language models (LLMs) as execution-time decision makers, we use them as designers that construct RL pipelines before deployment, including Markov decision process (MDP) formulation and simulator implementation. We identify a phase-wise structure in this problem: MDP formulation is dependency-structured and sequential, whereas simulator implementation becomes modular once the formulation is fixed. Based on this structure, we propose ARPG, a dependency-aware agentic framework that performs sequential MDP modeling, localized verification and correction, and simulator-structured implementation while externalizing intermediate artifacts. ARPG targets a key failure mode of automated policy generation: executable code may still yield non-learnable policies when state, action, reward, and termination artifacts are not semantically aligned. Experiments in Isaac Sim show that ARPG improves modeling correctness, environment executability, and policy-generation success compared with monolithic LLM baselines and off-the-shelf agentic systems. Additional demonstrations on custom robotics, standard RL, and engineering-domain MDPs further suggest that the same modeling pipeline can be reused beyond the main benchmark suite.

Who is the Pronoun Pro? Comparing LLMs and Humans at Number-Disambiguation of 'they'

Carlos Hartmann

原文摘要

This study evaluates whether large language models (LLMs) can reliably replace or complement human research assistants in linguistically complex annotation. In a controlled annotation task, 73 human annotators (local students and crowdworkers with and without a background in linguistics) and more than 40 LLM configurations number-disambiguated 174 authentic uses of 'they' from Reddit, including innovative and context-sensitive cases. The best LLM, Kimi K3, reached 94.5% accuracy, above the human majority vote (86.2%) and the mean of the top half of human annotators (78.5%); only the single best human annotator scored higher (95.7%). LLMs also offer substantial practical advantages in cost and speed. However, qualitative error analysis reveals a crucial complementarity: human reasoning in low-agreement cases exposes inconsistencies in the annotation typology and thereby improves the methodological framework itself. The study contributes (i) a benchmark-style human-LLM comparison for a semantically demanding task, (ii) transparent cost and time evidence, and (iii) a methodological argument against a purely replacement-oriented view of automation. LLMs are viable for large-scale annotation support in linguistics, but their responsible use requires human critical oversight. The dataset with its gold-standard labels, all human and LLM annotations, and the fully reproducible code are openly available as a Quarto-based, public repository.

Query-efficient scan-and-search watermark localization

Liyuan Wang, Xinsong Ma, Ziye Ma

原文摘要

Recently, the detection of AI-generated content has been of particular importance in various fields of our society. For accountability purposes, many large language models (LLMs) have implicitly watermarked their outputs. Localizing such watermarks requires a piece of text to undergo an additional verification process. Existing localization methods typically rely on dense token-level scoring, making verification costly even when an LLM-generated watermark only sparsely appears. To tackle this problem, we design a new adaptive allocation strategy that first maintains broad document coverage and then progressively concentrates the detection budget on regions that exhibit stronger watermark evidence or are more likely to contain watermarked content. We then transform the statistical signals from the selected regions into e-values and employ the proposed token-weighted e-BH procedure to determine the localized watermark regions. The resulting framework is called BELL (Budgeted E-evidence Localization for LLM Watermarks). Theoretically, BELL can control the token-weighted false discovery rate (FDR) without independence assumptions across regions. Finally, extensive experimental results demonstrate that BELL consistently outperforms competing methods across multiple LLMs, datasets, and watermarking schemes.

Shuffled OPSD: When Semantic Consistency Hurts On-Policy Self-Distillation?

Qingyuan Zheng, Zhihao Dou

原文摘要

Knowledge distillation improves a student model's reasoning ability through supervision from a teacher. On-policy self-distillation (OPSD) uses the same model as both teacher and student under different contexts: the student generates reasoning trajectories from the question alone, while the teacher additionally receives a complete worked example and provides token-level supervision along those trajectories. Because the problem statement is shared, its content and ordering shape both student generation and teacher feedback. Preserving its semantic structure therefore seems natural, but does it always improve learning? We introduce Shuffled OPSD, which shuffles the words of the shared problem statement while keeping the teacher-only worked example intact. Across three mathematical reasoning benchmarks and three Qwen3 model scales, the method improves mean accuracy over both an intact-target control and Standard OPSD under matched training configurations. The largest gain over Standard OPSD is 3.52 percentage points on Qwen3-1.7B. Further controls show that preserving larger word blocks offers no advantage over word-level shuffling at the evaluated scales, whereas shuffling the teacher-only worked example reduces accuracy at every scale. Cross-problem mixing and target-removal experiments further distinguish the roles of problem content, word order, and teacher context. These results show that disrupting the shared problem statement can improve learning, while disrupting the teacher-only reference hurts performance. They challenge semantic coherence as a universally beneficial principle for OPSD and motivate closer study of how input structure shapes student generation and teacher supervision.

Artifact-to-Capability: Diagnosing Breaks in Capability Formation of Self-Evolving Agents in a Controlled Environment

原文摘要

Self-evolving agents write interaction experience into artifacts and reuse them in later tasks. Most work supports such methods with three proxy signals: artifacts accumulate, behavior changes once they are loaded, and metrics rise. We call this signal-based evaluation. What these signals are meant to indicate, however, has not been defined. To fill this gap, we define capability formation from artifacts as five sequentially dependent properties, two of which form a checkpoint for capability formation, and introduce three-scale diagnosis, which judges these properties at the state, game, and lineage levels. In freestyle Gomoku, Reflexion, Voyager, and DGM evolve with the same base model and all show the three signals, yet each exhibits a distinct capability-formation break. Reflexion shows a legalization gain: its pass rate rises only because more of its moves are legal. Voyager shows a compositional override: components that are sound on their own combine to miss all 20 available one-move wins. DGM shows loss-only drift: after passing the checkpoint, later versions only lose passing states. These counterexamples show that signal-based evaluation cannot determine whether a capability has formed.

SAT-ACT: Learning CDCL Branching from Outcome-Derived Action Preferences

Zhenchao Sun, Chongyang Tao, Ping Lu, Tongkai Lu, Jianling Gao, Shuai Ma

原文摘要

Learning-based approaches have increasingly been explored for SAT solving, with particular attention to improving branching decisions in conflict-driven clause learning (CDCL) solvers. These approaches derive branching guidance either from static structural properties of SAT formulas or from dynamic signals obtained through solver feedback and execution traces. However, these forms of supervision provide limited evidence about state-dependent branching effects, while different outcome measures may favor different branching choices. To address these limitations, we propose SAT-ACT, an outcome-derived learning framework for CDCL branching. We design three complementary outcome comparison criteria to extract action preferences from independent branching action rollouts initiated at the same solver state. The criteria identify preferences supported by the outcomes and leave comparisons unresolved when the evidence is insufficient or conflicting, instead of forcing an ordering using a predefined scalar metric. A state-conditioned network learns branching priorities from the extracted preferences and uses them to guide CDCL search directly without online action rollouts. We further introduce non-dominated heuristic action supervision, which retains the solver-selected action as a training target only when it remains non-dominated under these preferences. Solver-level experiments show that SAT-ACT consistently reduces CDCL search costs on three SAT families and improves PAR-2 on the SAT Competition benchmarks.

原文摘要

Diffusion models have shown remarkable success across a wide range of generative tasks. However, they often suffer from spatially inconsistent generation, arguably due to excessive correlations learned by the model. This can produce samples that are locally plausible but globally inconsistent. We propose a principled method to mitigate this issue. Our method, sparsely supervised diffusion (SSD), is a simple yet effective masking framework that can be implemented with only a few lines of code. We analytically show that SSD fundamentally alters diffusion model training by modifying the spectrum of the data covariance and that it suppresses correlations in the data covariance matrix. Experiments show that our method more accurately approximates the underlying population score function, reduces memorization on small datasets, and promotes the use of essential contextual information during generation. Moreover, even when up to 98\% of pixels are masked, it achieves competitive FID scores across a range of datasets and, importantly, avoids the training instability commonly observed on small datasets.

CausalBind: Causal Modeling and Learning for Protein-Molecule Virtual Screening

Loka Li, Jin Tian, Kun Zhang

原文摘要

Protein-molecule virtual screening is increasingly cast as a problem of representation learning in a shared embedding space. Existing methods rely on dense holistic alignment, entangling invariant binding determinants with nuisance correlations and limiting transfer to new targets. Binding in protein-molecule systems involves sparse cross-modality interactions: binding is governed by a small contact interface and a few decisive local interactions (e.g., hydrogen bonds, hydrophobic contacts, and salt bridges) rather than the global structures of the protein and molecule. We hypothesize that uncovering and leveraging sparse interaction patterns is critical for generalization beyond the training data, as these patterns are reusable and expected to improve performance across different scenarios. Since the training data contain only observed binding pairs, we formalize this prior via a V-structure causal model under Heckman-style selection, and establish three theoretical results: (i) when the compatibility between concepts is bilinear, the latent concepts of interacting proteins and molecules are not identifiable, even if the interaction is sparse; (ii) with a non-bilinear compatibility function, these concepts and their sparse interaction support are component-wise identifiable under a sparse antichain condition; and (iii) a low-rank relaxation yields subspace identifiability of the interaction modes, and applies to bilinear compatibility as well. Inspired by these principles, we propose CausalBind with three implementation variants. Extensive experiments on DUD-E and LIT-PCBA benchmarks show that all variants consistently outperform strong retrieval baselines, with the largest gains on LIT-PCBA early enrichment, and further generalize to target- and scaffold-level out-of-distribution splits. VidVec: Unlocking Video MLLM Embeddings for Video-Text Retrieval

Issar Tzachor, Dvir Samuel, Rami Ben-Ari

原文摘要

Recent studies have adapted generative Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) into embedding extractors for text-vision tasks, typically by fine-tuning them to produce universal representations. However, their performance on video-text retrieval often remains below that of dedicated Video Foundation Models. In this paper, we revisit the video-text retrieval capabilities of MLLMs. We first analyze the zero-shot retrieval capabilities of pretrained MLLMs and show that they already encode substantial retrieval-relevant information: combining intermediate-layer embeddings with a calibrated MLLM head yields strong performance without any training. To further exploit these capabilities, we introduce a lightweight text-based optimization strategy that requires no paired multimodal data. Our method uses dense video captions as rich textual surrogates for video semantics and short summaries as compact, query-like views, showing that a carefully designed text-alignment objective can improve multimodal alignment through the shared MLLM backbone. We backup these findings through in-depth analysis. Remarkably, our lightweight text-only optimization outperforms its counterpart trained with paired video-text supervision, which is substantially more computationally expensive. Furthermore, our method outperforms existing approaches, often by a substantial margin, and achieves state-of-the-art performance across common video-text retrieval benchmarks. More broadly, our findings highlight the untapped retrieval capabilities of pretrained MLLMs and establish text-only optimization as a more efficient and effective substitute for large-scale visual supervision.

COEVO: Co-Evolutionary Framework for Joint Functional Correctness and PPA Optimization in LLM-Based RTL Code Generation

Heng Ping, Peiyu Zhang, Shixuan Li, Wei Yang, Anzhe Cheng, Shukai Duan, Xiaole Zhang, Paul Bogdan

原文摘要

LLM-based RTL code generation methods increasingly target both functional correctness and PPA quality, yet existing approaches decouple the two objectives, optimizing PPA only after full correctness is achieved. Sequential multi-agent pipelines, evolutionary search with binary correctness gates, and hierarchical reward dependencies all discard partially correct but architecturally promising candidates. Moreover, existing methods reduce the multi-objective PPA space to a single scalar fitness that obscures the trade-offs among area, delay, and power. To address these limitations, we propose COEVO, a co-evolutionary framework that unifies correctness and PPA optimization within a single evolutionary loop. COEVO formulates correctness as a continuous co-optimization dimension alongside area, delay, and power, enabled by an enhanced testbench with fine-grained scoring. The framework allows PPA-promising but partially correct candidates to guide the search toward jointly optimal solutions, and further employs four-dimensional Pareto-based non-dominated sorting to preserve the PPA trade-off structure without manual weight tuning. On VerilogEval 2.0 and RTLLM 2.0, COEVO surpasses all agentic baselines across four LLM backbones. With GPT-5.4-mini, COEVO achieves 97.5\% and 94.5\% Pass@1 and attains the best PPA on 43 out of 49 synthesizable RTLLM 2.0 designs.

原文摘要

Multimodal agents use web and image tools to answer questions beyond their internal knowledge. Some search tasks use images mainly to identify an initial entity, then rely on text retrieval. These tasks offer limited insight into how agents connect information across images, objects, and search steps. We therefore focus on visual context management. This involves organizing and using visual information and linking it to other findings during search. Visually intensive tasks require agents to combine object appearance, local details, or spatial relations with external information. We introduce VisSearch-Bench, with 204 human-written tasks across 7 main domains and 25 subdomains. It covers Set-wise Visual Search, Sequential Visual Search, Hybrid Wide-Deep Search, Competitive Visual Disambiguation, and Visual-Structure-Guided Search. Each task provides a reference answer, traceable evidence, and scoring rules. Accuracy measures complete task success, while Process Score measures the correctness and completeness of individual results and subquestion answers. Across 16 multimodal models, the best system fully solves only 26.47% of tasks, even with search tools. These results highlight the challenge of linking visual evidence with search results to produce complete answers.

Fault-tolerant shallow recurrent decoders for sparse sensing with missing sensor measurements

原文摘要

Real-world sensing systems are inherently imperfect: sensors may fail, intermittently disconnect, operate with asynchronous sampling rates, and be subject to noise, leading to measurement streams that are irregular, incomplete, and heterogeneous. Nevertheless, sensing strategies for real-time state reconstruction typically assume synchronous and continuously active sensors, a constraint that substantially limits their applicability in operational environments. In this work, we introduce fault-tolerant sparse sensing strategies in the context of shallow recurrent decoders (SHRED) to enable high-dimensional state estimation from sparse, asynchronous, and missing sensor measurements. Specifically, we consider naive imputation strategies, fault-tolerant recurrent temporal encoders, and we introduce four different transformer-based masking mechanisms to make SHRED explicitly aware of sensor availability through the binary data-availability mask. Moreover, we further introduce a multi-step decoding training objective for SHRED, resulting in smoother latent trajectories and more robust predictions. Throughout a synthetic benchmark and three real-world problems in hydrodynamic and ocean modeling, we show that (i) transformer-based masking mechanisms outperform standard imputation techniques and fault-tolerant recurrent architectures, (ii) the multi-step decoding training objective enhances reconstruction fidelity and robustness in the presence of heterogeneous missing-data patterns, while (iii) the computational efficiency of SHRED is preserved, with no additional inference-time overhead.
