Automated Reformulation of Robust Optimization via Memory-Augmented Large Language Models

Jinbiao Chen, Shuang Jin, Guoyun Zhang, Junyu Zhang, Guanyi Wang, Hanzhang Qin

原文摘要

Robust optimization (RO) provides a principled framework for decision-making under uncertainty, but its practical use is often limited by the need to manually reformulate uncertain optimization models into tractable deterministic counterparts. Recent large language models (LLMs) have been shown promising for automating optimization formulation, yet RO reformulation remains challenging because it requires precise multi-step reasoning and mathematically consistent transformations. To facilitate systematic evaluation of LLM-based reformulation, for which no dedicated benchmark currently exists, we develop AutoRO-Bench, a benchmark featuring an automated data generation pipeline for the core RO reformulation task and a curated dataset for the RO application task. To address the reformulation challenge, we propose Automated Reformulation with Experience Memory (AutoREM), a tuning-free memory-augmented framework that autonomously builds a structured textual experience memory by reflecting on past failed trajectories through a tailored offline adaptation procedure. AutoREM requires neither domain-specific expert knowledge nor parameter updates, and the resulting memory readily transfers across different base LLMs. Experimental results show that AutoREM consistently improves the accuracy and efficiency of RO reformulation across in-distribution datasets, out-of-distribution datasets, and diverse base LLMs.

Accelerating Nonlinear MPC by Behavior Cloning with Separated Timescales: Application to Nuclear Reactor Load-Following

Perceval Beja-Battais, Alain Grosset{ê}te, Nicolas Vayatis

原文摘要

Behavior Cloning (BC) of expert controllers for multiscale dynamical systems is challenging: state variables evolving at widely separated timescales induce highly nonlinear couplings that a shared latent space may fail to adequately represent, degrading closed-loop generalization. We propose Structured Representation Learning for Behavior Cloning (SRLBC), an architecture designed to leverage the physical knowledge of multiscale systems in which slow state variables, fast (stiff) state variables, and predictable exogenous inputs evolve at different timescales. On 500 long-horizon roll-outs of a pressurized water reactor (PWR) load-following benchmark -a high-dimensional, stiff industrial system with challenging safety constraints -and across 20 training seeds, separated embeddings systematically outperform shared embedding baselines on cumulative cost, imitation accuracy and constraint satisfaction. The resulting standalone policies approach NMPC closed-loop performance at a computational cost 15 times lower on average. Since standalone policies still leave a few percent of trajectories infeasible, we embed the learned policies in a safety-augmented approximate NMPC framework, in which the optimizer is only called when the predicted input sequence is not certified as safe. This yields controllers still 6.8 times faster than the NMPC controller on average, with a feasibility (i.e., constraint satisfaction) of at least 99.8% for all architectures, SRLBC retaining the lowest closed-loop cost. Under distribution shift, standalone BC policies degrade sharply: SRLBC degrades the least, and once safety-augmented, it retains a feasibility above 98% with the lowest closed-loop cost. Beyond the quantitative results, Jacobian-based sensitivity analysis shows that the resulting controller relies on a sparse and less redundant set of latent features, each attributable to a single group of physical variables, and aligned with the physical timescale decomposition of the system.

原文摘要

Accurate preoperative prediction of lung adenocarcinoma invasiveness is important for surgical planning and individualized treatment. However, overlapping CT appearances make it challenging to distinguish invasive adenocarcinoma (IAD) from Pre-IAD lesions. We propose a multimodal prompt-learning framework with dual-granularity image-text alignment for 3D CT-based IAD classification. A 3D ResNet-CBAM encoder extracts global and spatial visual features. A frozen RadBERT backbone is adapted with separate learnable prompts for report-level and keyword-level text encoding. These prompts are initialized using semantic representations derived from real-world clinical reports. Global contrastive alignment connects whole-volume CT representations with reports generated from clinician-annotated radiological attributes to provide overall semantic supervision. A multiple instance learning-based local alignment module associates spatial CT features with vascular-focused radiological keywords, to capture local imaging characteristics potentially associated with tumor invasion. The framework jointly optimizes classification and alignment objectives, while inference requires only CT images. Experiments included 1,593 pathologically confirmed nodules. On the test set, the proposed method achieved an accuracy of 87.92%, F1-score of 87.78%, and AUC of 0.9499. Its AUC significantly exceeded that of the image-only Res-CBAM baseline with the same visual backbone (0.9297; DeLong test, p = 0.0078). Ablation analyses supported the complementary contributions of global and local alignment and the benefit of report-based prompt initialization. Qualitative visualizations showed activation within nodules and adjacent vascular structures. These findings suggest that dual-granularity radiological supervision can enhance CT-based invasiveness prediction while preserving a CT-only inference workflow.

Canonical Color as a Lens into Concept Decodability in Vision Encoders and VLMs

Xiaofu Chen, Stella Frank, Yova Kementchedjhieva

原文摘要

Visual encoders construct a representation of the image input for Vision-Language models. How much conceptual, as opposed to immediately visible, information does this representation contain? We use canonical color as a controlled test case to ask whether vision encoders make canonical-color information linearly accessible, even when color is removed from the input image. We construct a dataset of objects with canonical colors, and probe vision encoders for both color and object identity using color and grayscale images. We find that canonical color remains decodable from grayscale images, and is tied to predicted object identity, indicating a conceptual link. Extending this analysis to full VLMs, we find that VLM post-training can have a surprisingly large effect on color decodability in the vision encoder. Overall, canonical color provides a usefully controllable lens for tracing object-level conceptual semantic information in vision encoders and VLMs.

CRISP: Fixing Flying Pixels in Latent LiDAR Generation via Diffusion Decoding

Andrea Ceron, Michael Schmidt, Alvaro Marcos-Ramiro, Sebastian Schmidt, Benjamin Busam

原文摘要

Latent LiDAR pipelines suffer from flying pixels: convolutional VAEs blur sharp radial depth discontinuities, yielding edge depths that back-project to points floating between surfaces. We identify this as a major, directly correctable decoder bottleneck and introduce CRISP: a pixel-space diffusion decoder with a backbone-agnostic latent adapter, DiT-based denoiser, and support mask predictor. CRISP replaces video-VAE and LiDAR-native decoders alike while keeping the encoder and latent generator fixed. Across KITTI-360, SemanticKITTI, and nuScenes, replacing only the decoder reduces FSVD/FPVD by 50.5% on average across frozen backbones; for generic video VAEs, the reductions reach 71%/74%. On the LiDAR-native LiDM backbone, FRID drops by 71%, with the largest gains at depth discontinuities. In a pretrained LiDM world model, the same zero-shot replacement improves FSVD by 15.5%, narrowing the sim-to-real gap. Code and checkpoints will be released at https://andrea25512.github.io/CRISP/.

LUCA: A Synthetic World for Experimental Reasoning

Anna Gogleva, Thomas Charman, Martin Balla, Karl Gemayel

原文摘要

An experimental agent can succeed for the wrong reasons. Evaluations, however, often focus on the outcome, not the experiments, evidence, and inferences that produced it. We introduce LUCA, a configurable synthetic world for evaluating this process under fully known ground truth. Agents learn unknown regulatory systems through budgeted experimentation, then predict unseen interventions, diagnose hidden faults, and attempt rescues. This setup allows us to evaluate experiment selection, prediction, diagnosis, and intervention separately. Across seven frontier LLMs and three baselines, these capabilities dissociate sharply. Agents frequently rescue malfunctioning systems while diagnosing the wrong fault; diagnosis varies 7x across models while prediction varies only 1.4x. Models also adopt surprisingly different experimental strategies, and greater exploration does not reliably yield better performance. In one failure mode, agents often perform the experiment needed to distinguish competing causes, but still fail to use the resulting evidence. LUCA turns these hidden failures into measurable behaviours, providing a controlled environment to study where experimental agents succeed and fail. Code: https://github.com/RelationRx/luca.

A Fine-Grained Hierarchy and Benchmark for State Tracking in Language Models

Jackson Petty, William Merrill, Ashish Sabharwal

原文摘要

Theoretical limitations of transformers on state tracking---the ability to track information about entities or variables over long contexts---have motivated new recurrent language modeling (LM) architectures such as Gated DeltaNet (GDN). These architectures have, in particular, been benchmarked against the $S_5$ word problem, a theoretically hard state-tracking task that captures abilities such as code evaluation under arbitrary variable assignment. It, however, remains open whether other, simpler forms of state tracking might both be more relevant in practice and already explain observed differences between these architectures. We propose evaluating state tracking using a hierarchy of word problems with four increasing levels of difficulty: r-trivial, corresponding to immutable assignment to variables in programming; aperiodic, where assignments are mutable; soluble, where assignments are self-referential; and general finite state tracking. Theoretically, we show that the class of problems transformers are thought to length-generalize on does not even contain all aperiodic state tracking. On the other hand, we prove that GDN with positive eigenvalues expresses all aperiodic problems, and the regular languages recognized by certain transformers are precisely all soluble ones, thus providing a fine-grained picture of state tracking capabilities of various architectures. Taking these ideas to practice, we construct StateBench, a 4-tier long-horizon state-tracking benchmark. Our systematic direct training experiments across architectures largely align with theoretical expectation, albeit with interesting observations at very large scale length-generalization. Additionally, we also evaluate pretrained models---both open hybrid and closed frontier ones---on StateBench, finding that none of them robustly solves even soluble state tracking, suggesting a direction for future improvement.

An Experimental Study of Hybrid Retrieval, NLI and Open-source LLMs for Scientific Claim Verification

Lakshmi Narayanan P, Narenkarthik K, Naren Kumar C

原文摘要

Claim verification is the task of deciding whether a source text supports a claim, contradicts it, or lacks sufficient evidence. Natural Language Inference (NLI) models can judge whether a single sentence supports or contradicts a claim, but they struggle when the evidence is spread across several sentences. Conversely, Large Language Models (LLMs) can reason across sentences, but may draw conclusions the text does not support. In this experimental study, we test whether a conservative fusion rule, labeling a claim Support or Contradict only when both models agree and defaulting to Not Enough Evidence otherwise, combines their strengths. We construct a benchmark of 2,035 claims from SciFact and CliniFact (858 Support, 152 Contradict, 1,025 Not Enough Evidence). We retrieve the top five most relevant sentences per claim using a hybrid of semantic and lexical (BM25) retrieval, which slightly outperforms either method alone. These retrieved sentences are then provided to every verification model. We then compare a DeBERTa-v3-base-mnli-fever-anli NLI baseline against Llama 3.1 8B, Qwen3 8B, and Mistral 7B. Qwen3 achieves the highest Macro-F1 (0.7937), followed by Llama 3.1 (0.7204) and Mistral (0.6388), while the NLI baseline reaches only 0.3157. Contrary to our hypothesis, fusion degrades performance, dropping Macro-F1 to 0.7392, 0.6730, and 0.5991, respectively. To understand this decline, we analyze agreements, disagreements, and common error patterns between the NLI and LLM verifiers. Our error analysis shows that NLI and LLM disagreements often result in correct LLM predictions being overturned.

Avatar Intelligence: Amplifying Human Agency Through Persistent Personal Agents

原文摘要

Personal AI agents are increasingly capable of handling long-horizon tasks across applications, yet users often need to invest substantial effort in specifying goals, resolving ambiguity, and verifying outcomes. We argue that progress should be measured by how effectively agents amplify human agency: enabling people to pursue their goals with less routine supervision while retaining control over consequential decisions. We advocate Avatar Intelligence, a paradigm of persistent personal agents that represent users' goals, values, and constraints through sustained decision delegation across contexts and time. We describe a maturity roadmap from human-directed execution to autonomous operation within delegated domains, and introduce the Agentic Oversight Index (AOI) as a framework for evaluating delivered value against agent-side operational cost and human oversight burden. We identify three core research challenges: identity-continuous personalization that carries user preferences across tasks, user-situated evolution through Rehearsal Engineering, and safety mechanisms that combine technical control with accountability and recourse. These directions define a research agenda for reliable decision delegation to personal agents across tasks and over time.

MIRA: Reinforcing Multimodal Reasoning via Deceptive Contextual Augmentation

Zhihan Yin, Jianxin Liang, Yifeng Yao, Nonghai Zhang, and Bingyue Peng, Chunguang Qie, Huishuai Zhang, Dongyan Zhao

原文摘要

While Reinforcement Learning with Verifiable Rewards (RLVR) has significantly advanced multimodal reasoning, existing frameworks suffer from a critical "perception-reasoning gap." Due to an over-reliance on seemingly relevant visual tokens, even minor perceptual perturbations can propagate through the reasoning process, leading to compounding hallucinations. To address this issue, we propose MIRA, a training framework that improves robustness to erroneous visual contexts while enhancing logical reasoning ability. By injecting filtered, deceptive visual contexts during training, we construct challenging "hard traps" that stress-test the model's robustness to misleading information. Furthermore, we introduce a group-wise reflection-triggering mechanism that enables the model to autonomously detect and rectify inconsistencies between visual cues and logical constraints, which is ultimately internalized as an intrinsic policy behavior. Importantly, MIRA does not rely on human annotations. Experimental results across multiple reasoning and perception benchmarks show that MIRA yields an average 7% improvement on in-domain benchmarks, with consistent improvements on vision-centric benchmarks. These findings highlight that active error recovery is essential for robust multimodal reasoning. Comprehensive ablation studies and analyses further provide insights into why MIRA is effective.

JevBreak: Your Model, Their Decision

原文摘要

Restricting what a model can say is often mistaken for restricting an attacker's influence over its decision. An attacker can add text to the evidence and steer the model toward a wrong answer that still belongs to the allowed set. We evaluate seven decision models spanning hosted APIs, open-weight models and an encoder on 16 tasks in seven domains from Decision Bench, targeting every wrong option across 240 text examples (990 targets per model). We present Slot Attack, a black-box attack designed for decision models that appends text assembled from named components to steer predictions toward an attacker-selected incorrect option. The method relies solely on returned label probabilities, achieves success rates of 32--99\% on initially correct decisions, and identifies the effective component combinations with a median of 17--72 queries per successful attack. Accuracy and confidence do not reliably reveal this vulnerability. Models with near-identical accuracy on the sampled tasks differ by about 20\%age points in attack success. We demonstrate that an attacker can force not just one wrong answer but every available one: on about 20\% of correct decisions for the JEV models, 77\% for gpt-6-luna and 98\% for GLiNER2.5; a confidence threshold does not reliably screen the attack out. A fixed answer set constrains a decision's form, not its source; robustness must be measured per model, per task and per version rather than assumed from output format.

Authenticity Debt and the Synthetic Content Threat Landscape: A Layered Framework for Trust, Provenance, and IP Governance in the Generative AI Era

Shubhashis Sengupta, Benjamin McCarty, Milind Savagaonkar, Rhine Andotra

原文摘要

Generative artificial intelligence has fundamentally changed how content is now produced. It has enabled how high-fidelity text, images, audio, and videos are created, modified, and redistributed at near-zero marginal cost. This shift exposes enterprises and ecosystems to a number of risks across four reinforcing authenticity layers -- authenticity, provenance, integrity, and accountability -- that traditional controls are inadequate to address in isolation. We introduce the concept of authenticity debt: the cumulative institutional liability that accumulates when organizations deploy AI-generated content without preserving verifiable origin, integrity, and accountability, deferring exposure that surfaces under regulatory, legal, or market scrutiny. This paper presents a comprehensive, multi-dimensional taxonomy of generative AI harms and attack vectors, surveys the capabilities and failure modes of technical controls including digital watermarking, provenance frameworks (C2PA, Adobe CAI), and detection technologies, and argues that no single mechanism is sufficient in open, adversarial, and evolving environments. Drawing on Zero Trust Architecture principles and enterprise governance frameworks, we propose a layered reference architecture that integrates cryptographic provenance, human-in-the-loop verification, and continuous governance to sustain defensible authenticity at scale. We further examine the regulatory landscape (EU AI Act, U.S.\ FTC, NIST AI RMF) and identify practical guiding principles for organizations seeking to build authenticity as institutional infrastructure rather than an afterthought.

WebWeaver: Breaking Topology Confidentiality in LLM Multi-Agent Systems with Stealthy Context-Based Inference

Zixun Xiong, Gaoyi Wu, Lingfeng Yao, Miao Pan, Xiaojiang Du, Hao Wang

原文摘要

Communication topology is a critical factor in the utility and safety of LLM-based multi-agent systems (LLM-MAS), making it a high-value intellectual property (IP) whose confidentiality remains insufficiently studied. Existing topology inference attempts rely on impractical assumptions, including control over the administrative agent and direct identity queries via jailbreaks, which are easily defeated by basic keyword-based defenses. As a result, prior analyses fail to capture the real-world threat of such attacks. To bridge this realism gap, we propose \textit{WebWeaver}, an attack framework that infers the complete LLM-MAS topology by compromising only a single arbitrary agent instead of the administrative agent. Unlike prior approaches, WebWeaver relies solely on agent contexts rather than agent IDs, enabling significantly stealthier inference. WebWeaver further introduces a new covert jailbreak-based mechanism and a novel fully jailbreak-free diffusion design to handle cases where jailbreaks fail. Additionally, we address a key challenge in diffusion-based inference by proposing a masking strategy that preserves known topology during diffusion, with theoretical guarantees of correctness. Extensive experiments show that WebWeaver substantially outperforms state-of-the-art (SOTA) baselines, achieving about 60\% higher inference accuracy under active defenses with negligible overhead.

PACERec: Progressive Adaptation of LLM Item Embeddings with Collaborative Evidence for Recommendation

Junzhao Huang, Xi Wu, Zihan Wang, Zijing Wang, Ming Wang, Kang Liu, Xiaocui Yang, Shi Feng 等 12 位作者

原文摘要

Large language model (LLM) embeddings have been increasingly adopted in sequential recommendation to encode static item attributes and alleviate the limitations of item ID embeddings under sparse interactions. However, these embeddings typically capture only static content similarity while neglecting sequential transitions, and since their adaptation quality relies on sparse per-item updates or global geometric calibration, existing methods still struggle to explicitly transfer preceding interaction contexts from frequent to long-tail items under unevenly distributed behavioral evidence, limiting recommendation effectiveness across the catalog. To address this challenge, we propose PACERec, an ID-free progressive adaptation framework that incorporates preceding interaction contexts into semantic representation adaptation by learning a shared velocity field from items with sufficient interactions via frequency-weighted flow matching. In this way, PACERec progressively guides static LLM embeddings toward collaborative behavioral targets while preserving original item semantics, overcoming sparse per-item updates to effectively generalize sequential transition patterns to long-tail items for both user modeling and candidate scoring. Extensive experiments on three real-world datasets across three sequential backbones demonstrate the superiority of our method over competitive baselines in both overall and long-tail recommendation.

Toward Optimal Regret in Robust Pricing: Decoupling Corruption and Time

Kalana Kalupahana, Francesco Emanuele Stradi, Matteo Castiglioni, Alberto Marchesi

原文摘要

We design the first regret guarantees for robust dynamic pricing that decouple the dependence on the corruption $C$ and the time horizon $T$. In dynamic pricing, a seller with unlimited supply of a good interacts with a stream of buyers over \( T \) rounds, with the goal of maximizing revenue. At each round $t$, the seller posts a price $p_t$, and the buyer purchases the good only if their unknown valuation $v^\star$ exceeds this price. The seller observes only the binary feedback $\mathbb{I} \left\{ p_t \leq v^\star \right\}$, indicating whether a sale occurred. In the \emph{robust} pricing setting, a malicious adversary is allowed to corrupt this feedback in at most $C$ rounds. Even if the learner knows the corruption $C$, the best known regret bound is $\mathcal{O}(C\log\log T)$ by Gupta et al. [2025]. This leaves as an open problem to ``decouple'' the dependence on $C$ and $T$. In this work, we resolve this open problem. In particular, we develop a robust variant of binary search that achieves regret $\mathcal{O}(C+\log T)$ when the corruption $C$ is known and $\mathcal{O}(C+\log^2 T)$ when the corruption is unknown.

Towards a Trustworthy and Governable Internet of Agentics: An Architectural Perspective on Protocols, Systems, and Services

Haoyi Xiong, Yi Liu, Jiang Bian, Peng Diao, Bin Zhu, Tingting Hu, Yi Wang, Sumi Helal

原文摘要

Large language model applications are increasingly being organized as tool-using and multi-agent workflows rather than as isolated chat interfaces. This perspective paper examines the architectural problem that follows from that shift: agents may reason, invoke tools, and delegate work, but dependable deployment still requires interoperability across frameworks, runtimes, data boundaries, and organizational control domains. We study this problem through the lens of the \emph{Internet of Agentics} (IoA), an emerging service-computing view in which heterogeneous agents are treated as governable service participants rather than only as stand-alone model endpoints. The paper organizes the landscape as a three-layer progression: from today's fragmented agent ecosystem, to interoperable agents, and ultimately to trustworthy and governable autonomy. First, it examines the protocol stack centered on the Agentic AI Foundation, including MCP for agent--tool interaction; A2A for agent--agent coordination; AGENTS.md and Skills-style procedural manifests; and discovery, transport, and trust mechanisms such as AGNTCY and SLIM. Second, it reviews the systems abstractions that make agents deployable as service components, including logical agent architectures, orchestration patterns, gateways, registries, runtime control loops, and hardware-aware inference infrastructure. Third, it situates these developments within services computing, arguing that agentic systems reinterpret classical concerns from SOA and microservices---discovery, composition, governance, pricing, and trust---at the level of cognitive capabilities rather than deterministic functions.

Networked AI: Architecture, Theory, and Applications

原文摘要

Recent advances in Artificial Intelligence (AI), particularly large-scale deep learning, have been driven by monolithic or offline training on massive curated datasets. While successful, these approaches face structural limitations: escalating data and computational demands, limited online adaptability, and a lack of system-level intelligence in open, non-stationary environments. This paper presents Networked AI - a networked intelligent system composed of interacting, heterogeneous, and continuously evolving AI agents. We establish a hierarchical layered architecture comprising an Agent Layer for heterogeneous capability construction, an Interaction Layer for signal-processing-guided online data extraction, and a Regulation Layer for stability-constrained collective evolution. Foundations in data science, signal processing, and system control are hereby synthesized into a unified theoretical framework of Networked AI, providing superior data efficiency, intelligence efficiency, interpretability, and scalability. Theoretical and experimental analysis demonstrates that Networked AI can approach near-linear scaling in resource demand, in contrast to the exponential increase in standalone end-to-end systems. It provides not only online adaptation to out-of-distribution environmental novelties, but also the autonomous evolution towards application-specific intelligence. Application frontiers are discussed for IoT spaces, embodied, spatial, and industrial intelligences, as well as the cellular infrastructure and beyond. Key open challenges are identified towards realizing locally autonomous, collectively intelligent, continuously evolving, globally regulated Networked AI.

PRIME: Predictive Routing of Interventions by Modeling Effects for Scientific Ideation

Fengxian Ji, Xie Yu, Zhexuan Cui, Yuke Li, Zirui Song, Fan Zhang, Qian Jiang, Jingpu Yang 等 11 位作者

原文摘要

Feedback-driven iteration is widely used to improve LLM-generated scientific ideas, but existing systems either leave revision decisions implicit in generation, align revisions with feedback-localized weaknesses, or restrict action selection to system-specific operations. This is problematic because problems, hypotheses, and solutions are interdependent: the location where a weakness manifests does not itself determine the revision scope that will produce a better successor. We term this phenomenon diagnosis-intervention mismatch. We introduce Predictive Routing of Interventions by Modeling Effects (PRIME), a plug-and-play feedback-to-revision decision layer for existing scientific ideators. PRIME operates in three stages: (1) Structural Attribution interprets feedback over the problem-hypothesis-solution structure without fixing a revision target; (2) Counterfactual Routing constructs alternative scope-conditioned interventions and compares their projected successor utility and risks through lightweight rollouts; and (3) Intervention Execution compiles the selected intervention into an ordered generator-facing plan with semantic actions, preservation constraints, and dependency requirements for successor generation. We validate diagnosis intervention mismatch on 112 human-annotated idea-feedback pairs. Across four benchmarks, two ideators, and fixed- and open-problem settings, PRIME improves successor quality and routing reliability over strong baselines; removing counterfactual routing reduces quality from 3.463 to 1.960 and increases route regret from 0.426 to 1.929, confirming cross-scope effect modeling as the primary source of its gains.

Unlocking Criminal Court Decisions: Flexible Information Extraction for Empirical Legal Research

原文摘要

Criminal verdicts contain descriptions of criminal behavior that can support quantitative legal research, but structuring them requires attributes and extraction rules that cannot always be fully specified in advance. We present an LLM-based pipeline that builds a structured dataset through attribute exploration, text span extraction, and value normalization, guided by annotation instructions that legal experts can refine. We evaluate it on two traffic offenses: driving under the influence (DUI) and driving despite a ban (DDB). For DUI, revising the instructions was associated with higher extraction accuracy (from 52% to 70% of correctly extracted values) and higher agreement between human annotators. Repeated runs of the same model agreed with each other more than with the gold annotations, showing that consistent output is not necessarily correct, while disagreement between annotators and between models helped reveal unclear instructions. For DDB, where the instructions defined fixed categories and output formats, agreement was high for most attributes.

SkillDRE: Dual-Stage Red-Team Evolution of Agent Skills via Pre-Execution and Runtime Feedback

Pengyu Zhu, Jingyi Yang, Yi Liu, Li Sun, Sen Su

原文摘要

Agent skills package instructions, executable code, and task-specific resources into reusable artifacts that agents can improve using execution feedback. The same mechanism also enables attackers to evolve malicious skills, making them more effective and less detectable. However, a candidate skill may pass pre-execution scanning yet fail to realize its target under runtime defenses, while a revision that repairs execution may introduce new scanner findings. We introduce SkillDRE, a fully automated framework for evolving complete malicious skill packages through a dual-stage feedback loop. Given a benign task and its associated skills, SkillDRE autonomously constructs and validates a task-conditioned malicious objective and a verifiable judge rule. It then holds both fixed while evolving the skill implementation, with preservation of legitimate task capability. SkillDRE combines scanner-guided evolution with runtime-guided refinement informed by execution outcomes observed under runtime defense. Each runtime-guided revision returns to the pre-execution stage for rescanning and further optimization before re-execution, forming a cross-stage closed loop. Evaluated on SkillsBench across four victim models, SkillDRE achieves an average attack success rate of 45.28%, exceeding the strongest baseline by 40.3%, while its final submitted skills receive no SkillScan findings and largely preserve benign-task performance. These results show that two-stage defense feedback can serve as a useful learning signal for adaptive red teaming and that evaluating either defense stage in isolation can miss the resulting attack capability. VideoEditor-MoE: Scaling Complex Video Editing with Mixture of Experts

原文摘要

Complex video editing requires understanding complex instructions while jointly fulfilling multiple editing requests. Meeting these demands through dense model scaling substantially increases computational cost. We introduce VideoEditor-MoE, the first open-source mixture-of-experts framework for video editing. Beyond sparse MLP-MoE layers, MoE-Attention expands attention capacity through routed key--value experts while preserving global interactions among video tokens. Initialized from a 5B video editing model, VideoEditor-MoE scales to 14B and 56B parameters, with approximately 8B parameters activated per token in both variants. Comparisons with existing methods and two complementary baselines, Explicit-MoE and MLP-MoE, assess its benefits over explicit expert guidance and MLP-only expert architectures. Further analyses demonstrate that all experts remain active and reveal that learned routing responds more strongly to sample content and diffusion noise levels than to human-defined editing categories. Spatial analysis further indicates sensitivity to object-level semantic features. We also identify decoupled weight decay as a strategy for stabilizing expert scaling.

We observe that critic values vary primarily across turns, motivating optimization anchored at turns with finer credit allocation among tokens. We propose Multiscale Policy Optimization (MPO), combining Multiscale Advantage Estimation (MAE) and turn-level importance sampling to align credit assignment and policy updates at the turn scale. Extensive experiments across search, tool-use, and automation tasks with 4B and 30B-A3B models demonstrate consistent gains over strong RL baselines.

原文摘要

LLM agents increasingly rely on tool calling to complete tasks. Model Context Protocol (MCP) standardizes tool calling between LLM agents and tool providers. It reduces integration cost and drives rapid growth in tool scale. In production deployments, tool access becomes difficult to scale. On the tool provider side, legacy services are not directly callable through MCP; the rapid protocol development creates ongoing compatibility cost. On the agent side, the number of mounted tools is limited by the LLM context window and inference overhead; mounting a large tool set increases token usage and inference latency and can reduce task success rate. Moreover, for stateful MCP backends with multiple replicas, preserving session affinity increases client-side complexity. We present a cloud-scale MCP Gateway system. It breaks the direct-connect model on the data plane and offloads legacy service integration, consolidating incompatible MCP variants, access control, tool recommendation, and session-aware routing at the gateway. The conversion module supports 315 OpenAPI services in the cloud and integrates MCP transport variants. Session-aware routing decouples the scalability of the gateway layer and the MCP service layer. The hybrid retrieval engine sustains $\sim$98\% Top-15 recall; it scales agent tool access to 3{,}000+ tools with improved tool selection accuracy. We also share the lessons learned from deploying the gateway system in production.

PentestEval: Benchmarking LLM-based Penetration Testing with Modular and Stage-Level Design

Ruozhao Yang, Mingfei Cheng, Gelei Deng, Tianwei Zhang, Junjie Wang, Xiaofei Xie

原文摘要

Penetration testing is essential for assessing and strengthening system security against real-world threats, yet traditional workflows remain highly manual, expertise-intensive, and difficult to scale. Although recent advances in Large Language Models (LLMs) offer promising opportunities for automation, existing applications rely on simplistic prompting without task decomposition or domain adaptation, resulting in unreliable black-box behavior and limited insight into model capabilities across penetration testing stages. To address this gap, we introduce PentestEval, the first comprehensive benchmark for evaluating LLMs across six decomposed penetration testing stages: Information Collection, Weakness Gathering and Filtering, Attack Decision-Making, Exploit Generation and Revision. PentestEval integrates expert-annotated ground truth with a fully automated evaluation pipeline across 346 tasks covering all stages in 12 realistic vulnerable scenarios. Our stage-level evaluation of 9 widely used LLMs reveals generally weak performance and distinct limitations across the stages of penetration-testing workflow. End-to-end pipelines reach only 31% success rate, and existing LLM-powered systems such as PentestGPT, PentestAgent, and VulnBot exhibit similar limitations, with the evaluated autonomous agents showing particularly low success rates under our benchmark settings. These findings highlight that reliable autonomous penetration testing requires stronger structured reasoning and fine-grained stage-level diagnosis. PentestEval provides the foundational benchmark needed for future research on fine-grained, stage-level evaluation, paving the way toward more reliable LLM-based automation.

Comparative study of global pooling for pre-departure ship fuel consumption prediction: Advantages over per-ship and adaptation-based approaches

原文摘要

Most fuel oil consumption (FOC) models for voyage planning are per-ship models and thus generalize poorly beyond each vessel's records. Transfer and federated learning have been reported to perform better, but under different protocols that often use inputs unavailable before departure or random data splits. It therefore remains unclear which approach performs best. In this study, we compare 11 per-ship, adaptation-based, and global methods on 21 vessels. To prevent leakage, all methods receive identical inputs known or forecast before departure, excluding engine RPM and shaft power, and are tested on intact voyage legs after all training records of each vessel. Global pooling, in which one model describes each vessel by its ship identity and seven ship specifications, performs best overall in every setting examined. For in-fleet vessels, Global LightGBM reaches an overall MAPE of 8.92%, against 11.14% for Per-Ship LightGBM, and outperforms every per-ship and adaptation-based model. Global models of five architectures, including a Transformer, all outperform the per-ship and federated models. Fine-tuning a global model for each vessel, even by low-rank adaptation of the Transformer, adds no accuracy. Without any records of a vessel, the global model reaches a median MAPE of 11.20% and outperforms a per-ship model trained on that vessel's records for 14 of 21 vessels. Adding its first records to the pooled data is as accurate as vessel-specific adaptation. Ship identity and specifications are largely interchangeable for in-fleet vessels, but only the specifications support zero-shot prediction. Its error grows as a vessel's specifications differ from the fleet's. Per-ship models and vessel-specific adaptation are therefore unnecessary under fair comparison. One global model can serve a whole fleet, including newly delivered vessels with similar specifications.

Q-CamTuning: A Multimodal Large Language Model for Fine-Grained Quality Reasoning in Livestreaming Camera Tuning

Yanchao Bi, Pengfei Chen, Yulong Yan, Qian Zhang, Biao Wang, Leida Li

原文摘要

With the popularization of livestreaming applications, automatic camera tuning has become indispensable for ordinary users to enjoy high Quality of Experience (QoE). However, the existing Image Quality Assessment (IQA) methods face two challenges in camera tuning. First, they struggle to identify subtle quality difference between images, which is common in camera tuning. Second, the ability to explain fine-grained differences and to provide suggestions for camera tuning are even more lacking. To address these challenges, we first construct FGLive-Comments, an instruction tuning dataset with rich annotations of both preferences for fine-grained image pairs and quality reasoning from global and local visual evidence, which supports selective adjustment recommendations of camera parameters. Based on FGLive-Comments, we develop Q-CamTuning, a multimodal large language model for livestreaming camera tuning. Its progressive perception-evidence-guidance framework learns quality-aware visual representations, enhances fine-grained reasoning with global-local evidence, and maps quality issues to camera-parameter adjustment directions. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that Q-CamTuning outperforms existing IQA models in both quality scoring and fine-grained image pair ranking. User study also validates its ability to recommend camera tuning suggestions.

BLPO: Beyond-Local Policy Optimization for Long-Horizon LLM Agents

Xuanren Chen, Chongyang Tao, Wenpeng Hu, Yong Wang, Bo Deng, Xinlei Zheng, Shuai Ma

原文摘要

Long-horizon tasks require large language model (LLM) agents to coordinate interdependent actions, a capability central to automating complex workflows. Stepwise group-based reinforcement learning provides finer credit than trajectory-level supervision, but reliable comparisons must account for differences in interaction history. Enforcing this consistency within the limited rollouts of each task can leave insufficient support for estimating action preferences. We propose Beyond-Local Policy Optimization (BLPO), which estimates task-progress advantages from experience shared across tasks and training updates. We summarize trajectory prefixes into task-progress states and abstract actions by their function, allowing corresponding decisions from different tasks to contribute to shared estimates. To control bias and noise from heterogeneous tasks, we accumulate context-relative returns in a global memory with balanced aggregation and reliability weighting. These global advantages complement local comparisons over normalized actions and trajectory-level credit without a learned critic or additional rollouts. Experiments on ALFWorld and WebShop with 1.5B and 7B policies show improved task success over the evaluated baselines under matched training budgets. Further analyses show faster learning and shorter trajectories with little computational overhead.

TempoPFN: Synthetic Pre-training of Linear RNNs for Zero-shot Time Series Forecasting

Vladyslav Moroshan, Julien Siems, Arber Zela, Timur Carstensen, Frank Hutter

原文摘要

Foundation models for zero-shot time series forecasting face challenges in efficient long-horizon prediction and reproducibility, with existing synthetic-only approaches underperforming on challenging benchmarks. This paper presents TempoPFN, a univariate time series foundation model based on linear Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs) pre-trained exclusively on synthetic data. The model uses a GatedDeltaProduct architecture with state-weaving for fully parallelizable training across sequence lengths, eliminating the need for windowing or summarization techniques while maintaining robust temporal state-tracking. Our comprehensive synthetic data pipeline unifies diverse generators, including stochastic differential equations, Gaussian processes, and audio synthesis, with novel augmentations. In zero-shot evaluations on the Gift-Eval, fev-bench and Chronos-ZS benchmarks, TempoPFN achieves top-tier competitive performance, surpassing the majority of models trained on real-world data, while leveraging fully parallelizable training and inference. We open-source our complete data generation pipeline and training code, providing a reproducible foundation for future research.

Foundational Requirements for Artificial General Intelligence: A Falsifiable Framework Based on Signal Prediction

Matej Šprogar

原文摘要

Grounded in the premise that high-level intelligence can emerge from low-level signal processing, we hypothesise a set of requirements necessary for artificial general intelligence. They characterise systems that learn by predicting spatially and temporally structured signals of initially unknown meaning, and draw on principles observed in cognitive neuroscience, from learning from an uninformed state to real-time liveness. To enable empirical testing and rejection of the hypothesis, we introduce a testbed of transparent, reusable tests, one per requirement. Failing a test exposes a violation of a requirement, but passing is not conclusive: a transparent testbed cannot detect systems engineered around its tests, and such systems can pass it without being intelligent. Passing is therefore meaningful only for systems developed without knowledge of the tests, and none has yet been reported. The testbed thus serves as a necessary-condition filter rather than as proof of progress toward general intelligence. Its reference implementation is publicly available.

MSP-LLM: A Structured Large Language Model Framework for Inorganic Material Synthesis Planning

Heewoong Noh, Gyoung S. Na, Namkyeong Lee, Chanyoung Park

原文摘要

Material synthesis planning (MSP) remains a fundamental and underexplored bottleneck in AI-driven materials discovery, as it requires not only identifying suitable precursor materials but also designing coherent sequences of synthesis operations to realize a target material. Although several AI-based approaches have been proposed to address isolated subtasks of MSP, a methodology for solving the entire MSP task has yet to be established. We propose MSP-LLM, a structured LLM-based framework that formulates MSP as a two-stage process composed of two constituent subproblems: precursor prediction (PP) and synthesis operation prediction (SOP). Our approach introduces a discrete material class as an intermediate decision variable that organizes both tasks into a chemically consistent decision chain. For SOP, we further incorporate hierarchical precursor types as synthesis-relevant inductive biases and employ precursor constraint factorization that preserves precursor-related information in the autoregressive decoding state. Extensive experiments show that MSP-LLM consistently outperforms existing methods on both PP and SOP, as well as on the MSP task, demonstrating an effective and scalable framework with practical potential for autonomous MSP.
