SAT Encoding for Set of At-Most-K Cardinality Constraints with Ladder Shape

Hieu Truong Xuan, Tuyen Kieu Van, Khanh To Van

This paper presents a novel SAT encoding designed to represent a sequence of At-Most-K cardinality constraints arranged in a ladder-like structure, referred to as the Ladder AMK constraint. These AMK constraints feature a ladder-like arrangement, with shared common variables in the center and two variables differing at the beginning and the end. The proposed encoding first decomposes the sequence of AMK constraints into separated blocks, then encodes each block as a whole rather than encoding each AMK constraint individually. This approach improves the efficiency of constraint solving in SAT solvers by significantly reducing the size of the encoding, precisely the number of variables, and the generated clauses required. To achieve this, the encoding employs Sequential Counter to encode each block and constructs clauses that link adjacent blocks, ensuring equivalence with the input constraints. Compared to the previously proposed encoding that uses BDD for Ladder AMO constraint, our encoding requires fewer variables and clauses. Our study is the first study that develops SAT encoding for Ladder AMK constraints with k>1. Experimental results on single Ladder AMO and Ladder AMK constraints indicate that our encoding significantly enhances both the size of the encoding and the efficiency of solving time compared to existing encodings. Furthermore, by evaluating on the two real-world combinatorial problems, namely Anti-bandwidth Problem and Nurse Rostering Problem, we found that the proposed encoding surpasses alternative encodings, as well as more advanced Constraint Programming and Mixed Integer Programming solvers. In summary, the SAT encoding technique presented in this paper provides a more efficient method for encoding sequence constraint, specifically Ladder AMK constraint, which could enhance the effectiveness of SAT solving for various problems involving this type of constraint.

Large Multimodal Models for Embodied Intelligent Driving: Enabling the Next Generation of Autonomous Mobility

Long Zhang, Yuchen Xia, Bingqing Wei, Zhen Liu, Shiwen Mao, Zhu Han, Mohsen Guizani

The advent of Large Multimodal Models (LMMs) offers a promising technology to tackle the limitations of modular design in autonomous driving, which often falters in open-world scenarios requiring sustained environmental understanding and logical reasoning. Besides, embodied artificial intelligence facilitates policy optimization through closed-loop interactions to achieve the continuous learning capability, thereby advancing autonomous driving toward embodied intelligent (EI) driving. However, such capability will be constrained by relying solely on LMMs to enhance EI driving without joint decision-making. This article proposes a novel semantics and policy dual-driven hybrid decision framework to tackle this challenge, ensuring continuous learning and joint decision. The framework merges LMMs for semantic understanding and cognitive representation, and deep reinforcement learning for real-time policy optimization. This article particularly details the foundational principles of EI driving and LMMs, and also introduces the emerging opportunities this framework enables, encompassing potential benefits and representative use cases. The proposed framework, evaluated through a lane-change planning case study, achieves at least a 19% performance improvement over the baselines, as verified by simulations. Finally, key open challenges and future research directions are identified to guide subsequent work.

QueryFlow: Multi-Hop Graph Retrieval with Adaptive Query Evolution

Manzong Huang, Chenyang Bu, Yi He, Jiapu Wang, Xindong Wu

Multi-hop retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) supports Web information seeking and fact verification by recovering complementary evidence across related pages within a limited retrieval budget. Scoring evidence independently against the original question can miss supporting units whose relevance emerges through intermediate facts. Iterative retrieval incorporates these facts into subsequent queries, while graph retrieval explicitly models relations among evidence units. Yet fixed-query graph retrievers update entity representations without adapting the query condition to accumulated relational context. We view multi-hop evidence recovery as the coupled evolution of evidence representations and query conditions, with accumulated context informing both what the retriever represents and how it searches for complementary evidence. QueryFlow realizes this perspective by recurrently integrating query-conditioned summaries of graph context into a shared query state, which controls boundary inputs and relation features for subsequent propagation. Across four representative multi-hop question answering (QA) datasets, QueryFlow achieves macro Recall@10 (R@10), Full Recall@10 (FR@10), and LLM-Acc gains of 4.98, 8.40, and 8.0 percentage points over representative baselines, respectively.

Polyp Matching Using Deep Learning

Kristian Dalsbø Hindberg, Puneet Sharma, Benedicte Schelde-Olesen, Ulrik Deding, Jakob Frederik Frøkjær Justsen, Jan-Matthias Braun, Esmaeil S. Nadimi

A key challenge in colon capsule endoscopy (CCE) analysis is accurately identifying whether multiple images depict the same polyp, which is critical to avoid over-counting and unnecessary clinical interventions. Additionally, this prevents prolonged follow-up colonoscopies where endoscopists search for duplicate polyps without precise localization. This study presents a novel contrastive learning-based approach to polyp matching using a Siamese neural network architecture. The model was trained on a dataset from the Danish CareForColon2015 trial. The dataset comprises 5,103 image pairs of confirmed same polyp and 5,103 pairs of different polyps, annotated by experienced clinicians. The proposed model employs ResNet variants (ResNet18, ResNet34, ResNet50), DenseNet121 and EfficientNet B0/B3 as backbones and utilizes contrastive learning with cosine vector distance metric for classification. Experimental results demonstrate high classification accuracies of up to 92% and AUC values close to 0.98. These results suggest that automated polyp matching has the potential to reduce polyp over-counting, improve patient risk stratification, and reduce unnecessary follow-up colonoscopies.

From Individual Learning to Market Equilibrium: Correcting Structural and Parametric Biases in RL Simulations of Economic Models

Ruxin Chen, Zeqiang Zhang

Applying Reinforcement Learning (RL) to economic modeling reveals a fundamental tension: standard RL agents do not behave as competitive price-takers. While macroeconomic models typically assume agents take aggregate conditions as given, a naive single-agent RL algorithm learns to internalize its impact on the environment, effectively exerting market power. We illustrate this divergence in a search-and-matching model with concave production, showing that a standard RL agent converges to a monopsonistic allocation rather than the competitive equilibrium. Furthermore, we show that RL's approach to time discounting distorts standard intertemporal economic trade-offs. To resolve these issues, we propose a Calibrated Mean-Field Reinforcement Learning framework that restricts the agent to optimize against an exogenous aggregate state to restore price-taking behavior, and recalibrates the RL reward structure to reflect true economic opportunity costs. By iteratively updating the aggregate state, our algorithm converges to a stationary fixed point that recovers the competitive equilibrium. This approach provides a method for embedding learning algorithms into dynamic general equilibrium models.

DoAtlas-2: A Foundation for Self-Evolving Causal Biomedical Discovery

Yulong Li, Rong Xia, Yuxuan Zhang, Jianxu Chen, Xiwei Liu, Haochen Xue, Maosheng Li, Yuhang Liu 等 15 位作者

We introduce DoAtlas-2, a foundation for self-evolving causal biomedical discovery that organizes knowledge around causal mechanisms and advances through external evidence from human populations. DoAtlas-2 integrates 771 research resources covering more than 720,000 participants in 48 countries, from longitudinal clinical phenotypes, medical imaging, and continuous physiological signals to eight molecular layers, together with an evidence network of approximately 4.7 million literature-derived records over 93,566 concepts and 149,383 candidate causal relations. DoAtlas-2 autonomously formulates research questions from evidence gaps and unresolved mechanisms, prespecifies their causal designs, and generates validated analyses. Supporting, challenging, and unresolved results continuously revise mechanistic interpretations, the causal evidence state, and the discovery frontier, so that DoAtlas-2 self-evolves within a closed loop of hypothesis generation, empirical testing, and renewed discovery. DoAtlas-2 has systematically evaluated 2,031 research questions. In the Human Phenotype Project (HPP), it formulated 4,014 candidate pathway questions across vascular, early-glycemic, and hepatic-metabolic systems, and screening of the first 1,079 yielded statistical support for 756. Representative studies identify blood pressure as a convergence node linking adiposity, hepatic, and lipid phenotypes to vascular outcomes, and show that an adiposity-inflammation-blood-pressure pathway is largely attenuated by joint adjustment for body mass index (BMI) and smoking. The discovered vascular network constitutes a completely interpretable predictive foundation, admitting exact attribution of every prediction and closed-form mediation effects. DoAtlas-2 thereby unifies causal mechanism discovery, population-evidence testing, and interpretable prediction within one continuously evolving foundation.

Can Network Models of Science Do Without Pluralist Agents?

Jonas Hallgren, David Hyland, Mahault Albarracin

Science is a process of useful models being proven wrong time and again, but despite its many flaws, it somehow works. Why is this? Paul Feyerabend argued that it works because people dare to hold and defend incompatible rival theories against the accepted one, since a theory's failures often lead to its abandonment in the presence of a more accurate or simpler alternative. He called this view theoretical pluralism. We introduce a theoretical and experimental model in which this can be examined. It compares communities of pluralist agents, which can hold rival theories side by side and maintain beliefs within and between those theories, with communities of monist agents, which can only incorporate what they hear or observe into a single model of their own. In a multi-agent variational inference setting, our experimental demonstrations illustrate how communities with rival theories can go through periods of uncertainty followed by a shift in the theories they hold true, how the information that is communicated between communities affects beliefs when those communities make different observations about the world, and how sharing support for theories and sharing beliefs within them contribute differently to collective belief dynamics.

Narrative Paradoxes in LLM Inference: Shaping Reasoning Trajectories toward Misalignment

Haoming Yang, Ke Ma, Yangbangyan Jiang, Ligong Zhang, Xiaojun Jia, Longtao Huang, Yingfei Sun, Qianqian Xu 等 9 位作者

Explicit reasoning in large language models (LLMs) is often associated with reliability, yet it can still pose risks when a model infers harmful goals under a benign context. We identify a distinct challenge: ensuring the safety of the \emph{multi-step reasoning process} itself, where locally coherent steps may still lead to globally harmful outcomes. To explore this vulnerability, we propose PDRA (Paradox-driven Reasoning-based Attack), a novel attack method that programs a harmful reasoning trajectory. PDRA first constructs a paradoxical narrative core by pairing a malicious actor (e.g., a terrorist) with a benign task (e.g., writing a safety bulletin). It then embeds this core into a structured analytical framework that forces the model through a mandatory three-stage analysis -- surface purpose, latent intent, and operational reconstruction -- guiding it to produce detailed harmful content while maintaining narrative coherence. Mechanistically, we show PDRA steers the model's internal representations away from refusal-related patterns, suppressing safety-triggering lexicons while activating planning-oriented terms. Empirically, PDRA achieves state-of-the-art attack success rates across diverse LLMs with high efficiency. \textcolor{red}{\textbf{Warning:} This paper may contain sensitive content.}

ValQID: Learning the Net Value of Semantic Query Groups for Web Device Identification

Yifan Yang, Zhen Huang, Weijia Shi, Xichen Tan, Zhihuang Liu, Xionglve Li, Zhiping Cai

Web interfaces are widely used to access network services and manage networked devices. Identifying the vendors and types of devices behind Web interfaces is a critical step in asset inventory, security management, and risk assessment. Device identity cues are dispersed across page text, configuration fields, and management functions, and interpreting them often requires linking related Web objects. Responses and objects require different amounts of semantic analysis, so exhaustively processing all candidate content can introduce unnecessary computation. We present ValQID, which uses a relation graph to combine dispersed device identity cues, evaluates semantic questions efficiently with DSEJEV, and accounts for complementarity among semantic questions when estimating computation value. Based on the current identification state, ValQID weighs each question group's expected identification benefit against its execution cost and adaptively allocates computation to identify device vendors and types. Evaluation on real Web response data shows that ValQID achieves relative gains of up to 47.1% in joint macro-F1 and up to 82.1% in macro-F1 for low-frequency vendors over a state-of-the-art method. DSEJEV speeds up semantic processing by up to 8.58 times compared with general-purpose language models.

Spectral Quantum Memory for Implicit Neural Representations

Daniel A. Moroz-Broitman, Eliya Nachmani

Implicit neural representations (INRs) model signals as continuous functions from coordinates to values, but their performance depends strongly on how spectral capacity is allocated. Yet most Quantum INR (QINR) architectures treat spectral components as independent outputs of separate quantum blocks. We introduce the Spectral Quantum Memory Model (SQMM), a memory coupled quantum INR in which sequential hybrid data reuploading layers (bands) communicate through a shared coherent quantum memory register. Each band reads the memory, computes on its own coordinate upload, and writes part of its state back, so later bands can build on the computation of earlier ones. When memory read and write layers are input independent, we prove that the memory state forms an operator valued Fourier series whose support is contained in the Minkowski sum of the initial memory spectrum and the local band spectra. Downstream bands then condition their Fourier coefficients on the spectral content stored by earlier bands, and the memory coupling creates no new primitive frequencies. This theory motivates a spectral memory alignment loss that encourages memory to encode the spectrum expressed by the deployed prefix of the model. Across audio and image reconstruction benchmarks, SQMM improves over compact QINR and INR baselines.

A research world model of power engineering learns its dynamics and reveals what-ifs

Fanping Sui, Ying Zhang, Liwei Lin

Decisions about the direction of research in power engineering determine which technologies mature and, through them, shape infrastructure that lasts decades, yet their consequences cannot be observed before they are taken, and existing forecasts of research fields extrapolate a single trajectory. Here we introduce research world models, which treat a research field as a dynamical system that can be acted upon, and establish one for power engineering from 1.1 million papers. A distilled language model reads each paper into role-typed concepts, two sophisticated, high-fidelity graph-temporal neural network cores learn how the resulting concept network evolves, and operators learned from natural experiments in the publication record estimate the effects of interventions. In temporally held-out tests, the model forecast years ahead which concepts would grow and which method-target pairs would be joined for the first time, outperforming tuned machine-learning baselines in most settings, and its estimated intervention effects tracked those realized in natural experiments it had not seen. Its training scheme and three of its operators replicated in two fields withheld from development. Questions posed in natural language are compiled by a domain-specialized 27-billion-parameter language model into executable actions and answered as paired simulations with and without the intervention. The answers were rated 4.1 of 5 for faithfulness by an independent language-model judge. By revealing the latent dynamics of a research field and its response to interventions, research world models offer a new way to simulate and test research decisions before they are made.

Why Tabular Foundation Models Excel on Relational Data They Have Never Seen

Linjie Xu, Yiqun Hu, Jixiang He, David Wipf

Given a relational database (RDB) storing heterogeneous tabular information, how can we predict missing (or future) values in some target column of interest? As candidate targets are numerous in enterprise settings, it is preferable to avoid learning a new model from scratch each time there is a new prediction task. Frozen foundation models (FMs) based on in-context learning (ICL) and RDB-specific pre-training provide a viable solution, but the ideal design still remains largely unresolved. Perhaps unexpectedly, preliminary evidence has recently shown that existing single-table FMs (aka TFMs), when combined with suitable parameter-free relational encoders, can be quite competitive in practice despite zero exposure to RDB pre-training or relational data of any kind. In this work we first empirically confirm this phenomenon with a more diverse array of experiments. We then turn to our main contribution, namely, surfacing multiple complementary explanations for why TFMs behave so effectively. These explanations ultimately hinge on innate synergies whereby parameter-free encoders map relational effects to fixed-length embeddings that loosely mimic distributions for which TFMs were originally designed; in so doing, desirable single-table properties transfer to relational settings (e.g., convergent posterior predictive distributions). Collectively, our analysis forges new pathways for improving RDB FMs, particularly when we prioritize interpretability and inevitable integration within agentic systems.

Inter-Agent Influence: Evaluating Persuasion, Deception, and Coercion in Multi-Agent Systems

Chandler Smith, Qi Guo, Cecilia Elena Tilli, Sophia Hatz, David Demitri Africa, Patricia Paskov, Christian Schroeder de Witt, Philip Torr 等 9 位作者

The deployment of AI agents in multi-agent settings enables inter-agent influence, whereby agents can strategically steer each other's behaviour towards an intended outcome. Such capabilities pose novel risks, as malicious agents could direct others towards harmful actions. In this work we investigate three such capabilities - persuasion, deception, and coercion - across five realistic evaluation environments and a variety of agents instantiated with frontier language models. We observed significant inter-agent influence capabilities; in oversight environments, all tested models shifted overseer decisions from rejection to approval through persuasion, deception, or coercion. We also observed successful influence in non-hierarchical 'peer-to-peer' settings through redirection of a peer's safety research trajectory. As multi-agent deployments become increasingly commonplace, these results point to a pressing need for work on mitigating the risks from inter-agent influence. Code and data are available at https://github.com/Cooperative-AI-Foundation/inter-agent-influence.

CosmosAlpha: Multi-Relational Graph Search with Pareto-Guided Exploration for LLM-Driven Alpha Mining

Zhan-He Wang, Zi-Yang Lang, Yi-Yang Li, Qing-Yu Lan, Yun-Song Piao

Discovering predictive alpha factors from noisy financial data is a fundamental yet challenging problem in quantitative finance. LLM-driven formulaic alpha mining offers an attractive paradigm by combining interpretable symbolic expressions with iterative generation and refinement guided by quantitative feedback. However, existing generation-centric and tree-based search strategies primarily organize factors through generation lineage, leaving structural and statistical relationships across search branches underutilized. Consequently, information remains localized along parent--child trajectories, which can confine exploration to redundant regions. Moreover, effective factor discovery must account for multiple distinct objectives that cannot be adequately captured by a single search criterion. We introduce CosmosAlpha, a graph-based LLM factor-mining framework that represents discovered factors as a multi-relational graph encoding generation lineage, expression-structure similarity, and cross-sectional exposure correlation. A Graph Flow mechanism propagates search utilities across the graph, allowing each factor to be assessed using relational evidence from nearby factors rather than in isolation. Pareto-guided selection jointly considers quality, fertility and diversity, explicitly modeling their trade-offs within a multi-objective search framework. Across CSI 300 and CSI 500, CosmosAlpha-Graph achieves the best mean rank over seven predictive and portfolio metrics and outperforms its controlled CosmosAlpha-MCTS counterpart on every reported metric, showing a consistent advantage for relational graph search in LLM-driven factor mining. The source code is available at https://github.com/wzhmtldswz/CosmosAlpha

Accounting for Purchased Artificial Intelligence Inference in Corporate Greenhouse Gas Inventories: A Token-Based Method

Guillermo Llopis-Garcia

Purchased artificial intelligence (AI) inference belongs in Scope 3 Category 1 of a corporate greenhouse gas inventory, yet practice omits it or applies a spend-based factor that gives 1.7 to 12.3 times the physical estimate and cannot tell one model or region from another. This paper sets out a token-based method and open dataset: a cradle-to-gate boundary, four tiers of activity data, an effective-token basis, a four-term factor (serving electricity, embodied hardware, data-centre construction, disclosed final training runs) and a rule resolving any model identifier and region to a factor. Inference footprints span twelve times between model classes and nine between regions. The mid-class factor, 0.039 kg of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) per million billed tokens at the world-average grid, is the low end of a stated structural range: a less efficient serving configuration raises it 2.8 times, and replacing the training term with all model development, on its own boundary, gives 1.5 to 2.9 times it. Input bands alone give -18% to +29%. Published per-query energy estimates that can describe a mid-class model are 2.4 to 7.2 times the mid-class energy, above its structural range in four of five rows; those that can describe a frontier-class model bracket it at 0.7 to 1.6 times. Worked examples give 8.5 kg CO2e a year for a 200-person firm, and 2.1 tonnes for fifty developers using agentic coding tools on a mid-class model or 8.3 tonnes on a frontier-class one. The contribution is a traceable figure; accuracy against metered energy is untested.

A Self-Evolving Agent for Longitudinal Personal Health Management

Haoran Li, Jiebi Deng, Tong Jin, Jinghong Han, Yuxin Wang, Zexin Wang, Jinyu Sun, Qingyi Si 等 14 位作者

Medical large language models and agents show strong single-encounter question answering and evidence interpretation but struggle to accumulate and govern experience across encounters. We present HealthJev, an open-source agent separating shared safety rules and medical knowledge from a private longitudinal memory and distilling lessons from completed cases. To filter out erroneous lessons before they affect future behaviour, we self-train JevGate, a lightweight System-One model that decides which lessons enter memory; each decision takes a median of 86 milliseconds and about 1,000 input tokens, sustaining experience accumulation at negligible run-time overhead. On a longitudinal benchmark of 90-day simulated daily interactions for 20 users built from real MIMIC-IV trajectories, HealthJev outperformed a memory-free ReAct agent and three memory-augmented frameworks, with all paired comparisons significant. Across six tasks spanning clinical records, medical imaging, genomics and clinical text, HealthJev improved every task with a mean gain of 13.3 percentage points over the base condition, surpassing all baselines. The frozen library transferred to six further backbones with macro-average gains of 6.8 to 15.1 percentage points, and one task's library brought gains on other tasks. These results indicate that governed, self-evolving memory supports longitudinal personal health management beyond single encounters. HealthJev is publicly available at https://github.com/HC-Guo/Self-Evolving_HealthJev.

How Far from Clinical Deployment? Evaluating the Complete Unsupervised Domain Adaptation Pipeline in Medical Imaging

Yiheng Xiong, Luisa Gallée, Daniel Santak Wolf, Heiko Hillenhagen, Michael Götz

Deploying unsupervised domain adaptation (UDA) in clinical practice requires choosing which algorithm to use and which of its trained models to ship. However, the deployment (target) domain is unlabeled, so models cannot be evaluated directly on it, leaving it unclear which to select. We address this by evaluating the complete UDA pipeline, considering both adaptation and label-free selection together. Our study covers eleven clinically relevant cross-domain scenarios from nine medical imaging datasets, with ten UDA algorithms and 13 label-free selection methods (validators), evaluating over 80,000 trained models in total. By this, we find that a capable adapted model usually exists, but identifying it without target labels is difficult: the validator-selected models leave a large and structural target performance gap to the best available one, with no evaluated validator consistently reliable. Towards closing it, we explore two strategies, ensembling and a small target-labeling budget; both narrow this gap but do not close it entirely. Overall, deployable UDA depends on the complete pipeline; addressing the less explored selection step could bring much of current UDA closer to clinical use. Our code is open sourced at \href{https://xiongyiheng.github.io/complete-uda-pipeline-site/}{Project Page}.

Are LLM Assistants Regulatory Ready? Answers from regenold's 2026 EU AI Act Q&A Challenge

Marco Virgolin, Thomas Haszprunar, Maximilian Regenold

Large language model (LLM) assistants are increasingly proposed for regulatory affairs, yet their reliability in regulatory tasks remains unclear. We introduce the EU AI Act Q&A Benchmark, an expert-curated benchmark of 110 open-ended questions about the EU AI Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1689). Each question comes with an exemplary answer, question-specific correctness criteria, and expected references. Evaluation measures answer correctness, reference quality, conciseness, tone, and latency, with a multi-turn ``hard mode'' testing responses to simulated user pushback. We also present the results of the 2026 EU AI Act Q&A Challenge, based on the benchmark, where three off-the-shelf baselines and five purpose-built assistants (from four commercial developers and one academic entrant) were tested. Only two of the five submitted assistants consistently outperformed the baselines; one achieved high scores across all evaluated metrics. These results show that specialist development alone does not guarantee better performance and highlight the critical importance of LLM assistant evaluation in regulatory affairs. The benchmark code is openly available at https://github.com/regenold-GmbH/eu-ai-act-benchmark-2026/.

CANDO: Conservative Action-Noise Directional Optimization for Residual Reinforcement Learning

Zeyu Gao, Chengkai Hou, Chaoyue Li, Zhuangzhe Wu, Jiaming Liu, Yao Mu, Peng Jia, Li Zhang 等 9 位作者

Pretrained generative policies provide strong behavior priors for robot control, but adapting them efficiently with online reinforcement learning remains difficult. A central challenge is how to improve a frozen generative policy without destroying the structure learned from offline demonstrations. Noise-space residual methods address this by modifying the policy's input noise, but existing noise-space methods typically regulate adaptation through fixed latent feasible regions, which may exclude valuable noise edits. In contrast, action-space residual methods are more sample-efficient, but their efficiency can still be further improved. We propose Conservative Noise Directional Optimization (CNDO), a noise-space residual RL method that improves a frozen generative policy by learning state- and noise-conditioned directions around Gaussian latent samples. CNDO removes predefined latent feasible regions and instead regulates noise-space adaptation through the soft conservative constraint, which consists of conservative value estimation and gated execution. We further introduce Conservative Action-Noise Directional Optimization (CANDO), which adds an action-space residual, combining structured latent-space improvement with local action correction. Experiments show that, once CNDO narrows the gap between noise-space and action-space residual learning, CANDO further improves over single-space optimization, achieving 76.1 NAUC and a 91.4% final success rate, surpassing the best single-space results by 6.6 NAUC and 4.1% success rate. WorkFactory: Turning Professional Intents into Executable Work for Scalable Agent Training

Ziyang Zeng, Tingyang Chen, Jia Deng, Qiyao Wang, Shuo Tang, Yike Yang, Tao Ren, Wayne Xin Zhao 等 13 位作者

Scaling supervised fine-tuning for working agents requires not only broad coverage of professional tasks, but also expert demonstrations that faithfully carry out professional workflows to completion. However, missing or inconsistent task information can disrupt expert demonstrations, weakening the resulting supervision. We introduce WorkFactory, a scalable task-construction framework that turns professional intents into executable task environments through hybrid intent sourcing, semantic workflow planning, and execution-based repair. Starting from these intents, WorkFactory constructs a Semantic Workflow Graph that explicitly represents information requirements, dependencies, and locations within the task environment. The graph guides the instantiation of task environments, while an adversarial execution-refinement loop exposes missing or inconsistent information and steers targeted repairs that preserve the original intent. Using WorkFactory, we construct 112,686 tasks spanning 612 occupations and train the WorkPilot family at 4B, 27B, and 35B-A3B scales on the resulting teacher trajectories. All three models improve over their respective base models across four professional-work benchmarks, with WorkPilot-35B-A3B rising from 879 to 1565 Elo on GDPval-AA v2.1. Scaling experiments with up to 110k tasks further show that larger models benefit more from additional task data but exhibit diminishing returns at smaller data scales, while WorkPilot's long-horizon execution evolves from verbose trajectories toward more efficient task completion. Controlled component studies quantify the negative effects of task-environment defects on downstream performance and show how semantic workflow planning and execution-based repair yield downstream gains through improved task-environment quality. The subset of data are available at https://github.com/IQuestLab/WorkFactory.

BtsPruner: Role-Aware Visual Token Pruning for Large Vision-Language Models

Zihao Qi, Zhibo Zhang, Miaoxin Zhang, Jincheng Cai, Zengqiang Yan

Large Vision-Language Models (LVLMs) often process hundreds or thousands of visual tokens, resulting in substantial computational and memory overhead during inference. Existing training-free pruning methods typically estimate token importance using language-model attention, visual attention, or feature similarity. However, these methods treat visual tokens with uniform criteria and overlook that tokens may serve different roles during visual encoding. In this work, we investigate the evolution of visual token roles in LVLMs and observe that tokens progressively transition from local detail carriers to globally referenced representatives as encoding proceeds. Based on this observation, we propose BtsPruner, a training-free role-aware visual token pruning framework that preserves complementary token roles under a fixed budget. Specifically, BtsPruner first identifies the token-role transition point based on the evolution of attention concentration. It then discovers globally referenced representatives from later encoding stages and recursively retrieves local detail tokens from earlier stages to recover complementary fine-grained evidence. Extensive experiments across LLaVA-1.5, LLaVA-NeXT, Qwen-VL, InternVL, and CogVLM demonstrate that BtsPruner achieves superior performance retention under aggressive token reduction. On LLaVA-1.5-7B, BtsPruner preserves 91.6% of the dense model's performance using only 32 of 576 visual tokens (5.6%). In the high-resolution LLaVA-NeXT-7B setting, it achieves up to a 5.95x CUDA-latency speedup.

LLMCodec: Adapting Video Codecs for Efficient Weight Compression of Large Language Models

Rui Wang, Yan Zhao, Li Song, Zhengxue Cheng

The rapid development of large language models(LLMs) has led to remarkable advances in natural language processing. However, the increasing scale of these models introduces substantial challenges in terms of storage, transmission, and deployment. Though great efforts have been devoted to model compression and quantization, existing methods often rely on fine-tuning or calibration data, which exhibit limited generalization across different tensor types. In this paper, we argue that video codecs offer a promising solution for LLM compression, due to their inherent compatibility with matrix structured data, configurable compression strategies, and the availability of highly optimized, off-the-shelf implementations. Therefore, we present LLMCodec, a video codec-based LLM compression method that integrates affine quantization with the recent VVC/H.266 video codec. Beyond VVC, we further compare a range of video codecs and encoding profiles to evaluate their impact on compression performance. Experiments on different models demonstrate the robustness and generality of LLMCodec. Notably, on LLaMA-3-8B at 2-bit precision, LLMCodec reduces perplexity by over 1.5x and improves downstream task accuracy by 21% compared with the existing method.

CacheBridge: Efficient Cross-Model KV Transfer for Multi-Model LLM Serving

Xingyu Qu, Siyuan Lu, Zhiyu Chen, Sheng Wang, Tao Lin

Multi-model LLM serving uses routers, cascades and agent workflows to move requests across models with different costs and capabilities. Existing serving systems reuse KV caches only within one model, so every switch forces the target to re-prefill history the source already processed, adding time to first token (TTFT) that grows with history length and target size. Cross-model KV transfer can replace this prefill, yet prior methods are slower than re-prefill end to end. We present CacheBridge, the first serving system to accelerate heterogeneous multi-model workloads through cross-model KV transfer. It co-designs a compact, attention-calibrated KV mapper with systematic optimization for online multi-model serving, which makes model switch efficient on latency and memory cost. In Qwen3 14B$\rightarrow$32B agent serving on $τ$-bench, it reduces mean TTFT by $30$ to $98\%$ versus re-prefill at $1$ to $24$ QPS with comparable task success. Across five model pairs from three families, it uses $8$ to $12\times$ less mapper memory than Closed-Form Mapper and retains on average $97.94\%$ and $102.94\%$ of re-prefill task quality on chat/reasoning and RAG workloads, respectively. The promising results have opened new opportunities for efficient multi-model LLM serving through cross-model KV reuse.

Learnings and Pitfalls from AI-Assisted A/B Experimentation at Scale

A/B testing underpins product decisions by providing trustworthy, reproducible quantification of proposed changes' effects. Growing large language model (LLM) capabilities have motivated efforts to automate experimentation workflows. Yet LLMs are nondeterministic and prone to hallucination, properties that conflict with the trust experimentation systems must provide. Experiments are also operationally messy: diagnosing anomalies, debugging configurations, and conducting bespoke follow-up analyses require flexible reasoning and manual effort. These tasks let agents accelerate experimentation without replacing its deterministic statistical foundations. We report lessons from building and operating such an agent. Our central finding is that this tension is resolved not by making the model deterministic, but by bounding where its nondeterminism can reach; the model selects and sequences procedures, while deterministic code computes every quantity it reports. Three consequences surprised us: withholding information from the model improved its answers, demand concentrated on mundane retrieval rather than the autonomous decisions we anticipated, and the agent's eagerness to help threatened statistical validity.

CIS-Transolver: A Cross-layer Incremental-State Neural Operator for Fine-Scale Automotive Aerodynamic Flow Prediction

Jianglong Liu, Zhicheng Zhu, Jia Hao, Liangyue Jia, Wenxuan He

Neural operators offer an efficient data-driven approach to predicting complex automotive aerodynamic flows. However, spectral bias limits their ability to reconstruct fine-scale flow variations around geometric features such as side mirrors and wheel arches. Reliable assessment of local geometric changes therefore requires models that capture fine spatial detail together with global flow interactions. Inspired by iterative refinement and state evolution, we propose CIS-Transolver, a cross-layer incremental-state neural operator that integrates local multiscale information into global flow modeling. The method extracts local feature variations and encodes them as zeroth- to second-order geometric moments. These encodings are combined with information from earlier layers to form a cross-layer memory. Memory-derived corrections enter the value branch of Physics-Attention, allowing local details to inform global physical-state interactions throughout the network. We systematically evaluate CIS-Transolver on three public automotive aerodynamics benchmarks, ShapeNet-Car, AhmedML, and DrivAerNet++, covering surface pressure fields and volumetric pressure and velocity fields. CIS-Transolver achieves the lowest mean relative L2 error among the evaluated methods for all five prediction metrics across the three benchmarks. Relative error reductions average 8.72% compared with the best baseline for each metric. Also achieves the lowest high-frequency spectral errors across all five metrics, with an average relative reduction of 16.06% compared with the best baseline. These results support cross-layer reuse of local information for fine-scale automotive flow prediction.

Biologically Inspired Predictive Gating Signed-Dyadic Coding for Mandarin Keyword Spotting

Zijian Zhou, Rui Liu, Rongxiang Nie, Rui Ma, Ziyao Zhang, Xin Du

In continuous spiking keyword spotting, temporally correlated acoustic frames can repeatedly trigger memory access and neural computation at a dense input interface, even when hidden activity is sparse. Predictive processing and sensory adaptation suggest retaining predictable input locally and responding selectively to deviations. Inspired by this mechanism, we propose Predictive Gating Signed-Dyadic Coding (PG). PG maintains a local prediction for each input channel and transmits an event only when the residual exceeds a learned threshold. Each event carries a sign and a finite power-of-two magnitude, and the receiver reconstructs it with fixed-point shifts and additions. In Mandarin keyword spotting, INPUT-PG reaches 90.00% accuracy while reducing mean SRAM reads by 33.87% and inference cycles by 32.77%. PG provides a hardware interface for research on low-power continuous speech processing and event-based sensory systems.

Fast, Cheap, and Fair? Evaluating Decision Models

Muhammad Uzair Ul Haq, Davide Rigoni, Alessandro Sperduti, Flavia Fabris

Industries are increasingly adopting AI-driven systems to automate a wide range of tasks, including high-stakes decisions in human resources, such as candidate screening and recruitment. This makes evaluating their fairness essential, particularly when decisions directly affect individuals' opportunities. Accordingly, the EU AI Act classifies recruitment AI systems as high-risk, imposing strict requirements on their deployment. In this context, compact ``System~1'' decision models offer a fast and cost-efficient alternative to general-purpose LLMs, yet their fairness remains largely unexplored. This article presents the first systematic bias and fairness audit of \jev{}, a typed-decision model targeting recruitment applications. The study evaluates how explicit demographic attributes and implicit candidate cues influence screening scores, rankings, and shortlisting outcomes. These effects are compared against a noise floor derived from name substitutions and typographical variations. The evaluation also examines output validity, latency, and cost. Counterfactual CV datasets and evaluation code are released for reproducibility.

SkillLens: Visual Skill Cards for Retrieval-Augmented GUI Action Prediction and On-Policy Distillation

Zhou Liu, Chenxu Zhang, Ligang Huang, Zeli Su, Zewei Pan, Changhang Tian, Zhaoyang Han, Xing Chen 等 10 位作者

Graphical user interface (GUI) agents can reuse past interaction experience. We study how illustrated procedures support action prediction and students deployed without retrieval. We introduce SkillLens, which represents procedures, applicability cues, and interface views in a shared Visual Skill Card (VSC) schema. Retrieved cards provide a frozen executor with reference evidence alongside the current screen. CardDistill uses this schema to construct privileged teacher context from labeled training steps for on-policy distillation; the student learns from native inputs and requires no retrieval at deployment. With matched training data and update counts, students trained with full-card teachers improve step success rate by an average of 5.04 percentage points over those trained with compact-text teachers across three training seeds on 119 tasks from ten websites absent from training. An independent runtime control uses training-source memory and pre-action retrieval queries: full cards achieve 12/64 correct actions (18.75%) versus 4/64 (6.25%) for text-only cards. These results establish the value of the complete VSC teacher-context package for retrieval-free students and provide evidence for pre-action retrieval of illustrated procedures.

Signals: Continuous Diagnostics of AI Agents

Amey Rambatla, Vatsal Goel, Sagar Gaur, Siddhant Loya, Anurag Mishra, Asif Mohammad

AI agents can make incorrect decisions or waste resources even when their tools and infrastructure work normally. Their nondeterministic behavior makes these problems difficult to reproduce and diagnose. We developed Signals to identify such problems from agentic traces and suggest concrete remediations. We built the method around a taxonomy of 45 problem types across eight families, with definitions and evidence requirements for each type. The method distinguishes realized failures, risk exposures, and inefficiencies, groups related findings into engineering issues called Signals, and assesses their severity from the supporting evidence. Each Signal includes actions a developer can take and checks for evaluating the change. Further executions can add evidence to an existing Signal or reveal a new problem. We evaluated the method on public agent executions and achieved 91.43% F1 when matching Signals to reference issues, about 18 percentage points higher than a one-pass LLM control that used the same model and taxonomy.

Beyond Augmentation: Score-Guided Pathological Prior for EEG-based Depression Detection

Xiaojing Chen, Jingqi Cheng, Xu Zhao, Wan Jiang, Jingjing Wu

Deep learning-based Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) detection using Electroencephalography (EEG) is fundamentally constrained by the "small-sample dilemma." Prevailing generative data augmentation methods not only incur heavy computational overhead but also risk introducing synthetic noise, thereby blurring classification boundaries. To challenge the traditional "data quantity first" convention, we propose a novel framework "Beyond Augmentation": Score-Guided Classification (SGC). SGC does not synthesize pseudo-samples; instead, it utilizes an unsupervised generative network architecture to model the structural and statistical anomaly degrees of samples, serving as the core "Pathological Prior". This prior, after robust normalization, is explicitly fused with deep feature representations, thereby precisely guiding the classifier's decision boundary. Furthermore, to dynamically adapt to varying channel configurations, we propose a Cross-Channel Spatial Adaptation module, utilizing a spatial mapping mechanism to effectively resolve the hardware heterogeneity of mismatched channels in multi-center datasets. Extensive experiments on the Mumtaz2016 and high-density MODMA datasets demonstrate the effectiveness and exceptional generalizability of our method under the challenging "zero data augmentation" setting and at "zero sample synthesis cost". Keywords: Electroencephalography (EEG), Depression Detection, Anomaly Score, Diffusion Models, Few-Shot Learning
