MAVEN: A Macro-Societal Value Evaluation Framework of Multimodal Content with Compact Aligned Evaluators

Zijuan Zhao, Zheren Fu, Hou Xia, Licheng Zhang, Yi Liu, Zhendong Mao

Assessing whether multimodal content aligns with macro-societal values, such as peace, justice, and freedom, has become an increasingly urgent challenge. Existing frameworks are largely confined to safety-oriented taxonomies, text-only psychometric probes, or single-label classification. Therefore, we propose MAVEN, a hierarchical framework for macro-societal value evaluation of multimodal content, grounded in international human-rights instruments and cultural value theory. MAVEN organizes values into 6 primary dimensions and 72 secondary indicators, supporting multi-level quantitative scoring. Building on MAVEN, we construct a human-verified multimodal benchmark and a soft-match metric to evaluate VLMs' assessments across value dimensions. For evaluator optimization, we propose a span-adaptive variant of multi-level preference optimization for evaluator distillation, together with a training-free multi-role consensus strategy at inference time. We evaluate existing open- and closed-source VLMs on our benchmark, revealing shared tendencies and clear differences in macro-societal value judgments. Experiments show that our compact 2B evaluator matches its 8B counterpart in the same family and approaches frontier closed-source VLMs, offering a practical path toward scalable macro-societal value evaluation. Our SA-MDPO implementation and MacroValue-Bench are available at https://github.com/zzzzzzzzjj/MAVEN.

AgentHeal: Evaluating Goal-Preserving Resource Recovery of Web Agents under Access Barriers

Zhiyi Liu, Haohua Du, Haoqi Sun, Haisheng Tan

Large language model (LLM) agents have demonstrated strong capabilities in automating complex information-seeking and transactional tasks across the open web. However, their real-world reliability remains limited by access barriers, such as dead links, authentication walls, rate limits, and anti-scraping defenses. These barriers block the primary execution path, causing agents to abort prematurely, loop indefinitely, or quietly compromise the user's original constraints. Existing evaluations either implicitly assume that target resources are freely accessible or focus on transient perturbations that simple retries can resolve, failing to capture scenarios where agents must actively reroute around impassable bottlenecks. To bridge this gap, this paper introduces AgentHeal, a comprehensive benchmark evaluating goal-preserving resource recovery, defined as the ability of web agents to detect non-transient access barriers, pivot to legitimate alternative sources, and fulfill the user's exact original objective. Spanning nine barrier families across a counterfactual sandbox and real-website replay, our experiments on leading LLM backbones show that average task success drops sharply from 89.4% to 43.7% under access barriers. Further analysis reveals that agents frequently fall for deceptive look-alikes, fail to escalate to users when necessary, violate access policies, or waste computation on futile retries, providing actionable diagnostics for developing resilient web agents.

Decoupling and Regulating Modality Heads for Fake News Detection under Missing Modality

Kai Qian, Dongjie Xu, Weijie Shi, Yezhao Xu, Jiaqi Wang, Hanghui Guo, Mengze Li, Hao Chen 等 10 位作者

Multimodal news often loses its image or text as it spreads across Web platforms. Existing methods treat this as information loss, assuming that the original veracity label remains valid. This assumption fails for fake news reusing authentic material, whose remainder may be genuine. Detectors should therefore decouple modality cues and adapt their contributions to modality availability. However, coarse news labels provide little guidance for modality decoupling, while training on complete inputs can induce modality bias. To address these challenges, we propose Head-wise Modality Decoupling and Regulation (HMDR) for multimodal large language models. First, Modality Head Decoupling decouples modality representations through soft head grouping by attention preference. Second, Modality Head Regulation regulates head contributions through compensation for imbalanced modality attention. Finally, Modality Invariance Learning promotes invariance by aligning representations of each modality under replacement of the other. Experiments on two benchmarks show that HMDR improves detection under missing modalities while maintaining performance on complete inputs.

JevAdvBench: A Benchmark and Black-Box Attacks for Reinforcement Learning for Calibrated Decisions Models

Jianyi Hu, Hangtao Zhang, Yi Liu, Yeqi Zeng, Li Zeng, Xianlong Wang, Rui Wang, Leo Yu Zhang

Typed decision models (TDMs), such as Jev, answer a question about an input with a probability, an option, or an ordinal level. Web services execute these decisions automatically above a confidence threshold. An attacker who writes part of the input can change a decision that the service then executes. Current adversarial benchmarks cannot measure this risk, because they judge generated text. A TDM writes no text, and its wrong decisions have a valid format. We present JevAdvBench, to our knowledge the first unified benchmark for the adversarial robustness of TDMs. It contains 862 questions with audited answers and twelve black-box attack methods that edit the input or the options by adaptive search. Because a changed decision is not always wrong, a review keeps only 5,586 answer-preserving variants, and we attack only correct decisions. The attacks flip 46.3% of Jev's correct decisions, while identical re-runs flip only 0.17%. A flawed argument without a command flips 77.2%, close to direct prompt injection at 92.0%. The same variants flip 34.0% to 51.7% of correct decisions on eight open TDMs. At a 0.8 threshold, 23.5% of the decisions that the service still executes are wrong. On Agentgateway, the Jev guardrail rejects a jailbreak request but accepts it with an inserted argument. Web services should therefore treat TDM inputs as untrusted and should not act on confidence alone. Project website: https://JevAdvBench.github.io/JevAdvBench/

ARGUS: Policy-Adaptive Ad Governance via Evolving Reinforcement with Adversarial Umpiring

Deyi Ji, Junyu Lu, Xuanyi Liu, Liqun Liu, Hailong Zhang, Peng Shu, Huan Yu, Jie Jiang 等 10 位作者

Online advertising governance faces significant challenges due to the non-stationary nature of regulatory policies, where emerging mandates (e.g., restrictions on education or aesthetic anxiety) create severe label inconsistencies and reasoning ambiguities in historical datasets. In this paper, we propose ARGUS, a policy-adaptive governance system that enables evolving reinforcement through multi-agent adversarial umpiring. ARGUS addresses the sparsity of new policy data by employing a three-stage framework: (1) Policy Seeding for initial perception; (2) Adversarial Label Rectification, which utilizes a ”Prosecutor-Defender-Umpire” architecture to resolve conflicts between stale labels and new mandates; and (3) Latent Knowledge Discovery, which employs a tripartite dialectical discussion to unearth sophisticated, “gray-area” violations. By leveraging RAG-enhanced policy knowledge and Chain-of-Thought synthesis as dynamic rewards for reinforcement learning, ARGUS synchronizes its reasoning pathways with evolving regulations. Extensive experiments on both industrial and public datasets demonstrate that ARGUS significantly outperforms traditional fine-tuning baselines, achieving superior policy-adaptive learning with minimal gold data.

Mixture-of-Minds: Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning for Table Understanding

Yuhang Zhou Meta, Mingrui Zhang, Ke Li, Mingyi Wang Facebook, Qiao Liu City University of New York, Qifei Wang, Jiayi Liu Meta Platforms Inc., Fei Liu Meta 等 15 位作者

Understanding and reasoning over tables is a critical capability for many real-world applications. Large language models (LLMs) have shown promise on this task, but current approaches remain limited. Fine-tuning based methods strengthen language reasoning; yet they are prone to arithmetic errors and hallucination. In contrast, tool-based methods enable precise table manipulation but rely on rigid schemas and lack semantic understanding. These complementary drawbacks highlight the need for approaches that integrate robust reasoning with reliable table processing. In this work, we propose MIXTURE-OF-MINDS, a multi-agent framework that decomposes table reasoning into three specialized roles: planning, coding, and answering. This design enables each agent to focus on a specific aspect of the task while leveraging code execution for precise table manipulation. Building on this workflow, we introduce a self-improvement training framework that employs Monte Carlo Tree Search (MCTS) rollouts to generate pseudo-gold trajectories and optimize agents with reinforcement learning (RL). Extensive experiments show that MIXTURE-OF-MINDS delivers substantial gains, reaching 62.13% on TableBench and surpassing GPT-o3-mini. These results demonstrate the promise of combining structured multi-agent workflows with RL to advance table understanding.

Libra-VLA: Achieving Learning Equilibrium via Asynchronous Coarse-to-Fine Dual-System

Yifei Wei, Linqing Zhong, Yi Liu, Yuxiang Lu, Xindong He, Maoqing Yao Agibot, Guanghui Ren AgiBot

Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models are a promising paradigm for generalist robotic manipulation by grounding high-level semantic instructions into executable physical actions. However, prevailing approaches typically adopt a monolithic generation paradigm, directly mapping visual-linguistic features to high-frequency motor commands in a flat, non-hierarchical fashion. This strategy overlooks the inherent hierarchy of robotic manipulation, where complex actions can be naturally modeled in a Hybrid Action Space, decomposing into discrete macro-directional reaching and continuous micro-pose alignment, severely widening the semantic-actuation gap and imposing a heavy representational burden on grounding high-level semantics to continuous actions. To address this, we introduce Libra-VLA, a novel Coarse-to-Fine Dual-System VLA architecture. We explicitly decouple the learning complexity into a coarse-to-fine hierarchy to strike a training equilibrium, while simultaneously leveraging this structural modularity to implement an asynchronous execution strategy. The Semantic Planner predicts discrete action tokens capturing macro-directional intent, while the Action Refiner conditions on coarse intent to generate high-frequency continuous actions for precise alignment. Crucially, our empirical analysis reveals that performance follows an inverted-U curve relative to action decomposition granularity, peaking exactly when the learning difficulty is balanced between the two sub-systems. With the asynchronous design, our approach offers a scalable, robust, and responsive solution for open-world manipulation.

LongVideoAgent: Multi-Agent Reasoning with Long Videos

Runtao Liu, Ziyi Liu Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Jiaqi Tang, Yue Ma, Renjie Pi, Jipeng Zhang Microsoft, Qifeng Chen Hong Kong University of Science and Technology

Recent advances in multimodal LLMs and systems that use tools for long-video QA point to the promise of reasoning over hour-long episodes. However, many methods still compress content into lossy summaries or rely on limited toolsets, weakening temporal grounding and missing fine-grained cues. We propose a multi-agent framework in which a master LLM coordinates a grounding agent to localize question-relevant segments and a vision agent to extract targeted textual observations. The master agent plans with a step limit, and is trained with reinforcement learning to encourage concise, correct, and efficient multi-agent cooperation. This design helps the master agent focus on relevant clips via grounding, complements subtitles with visual detail, and yields interpretable trajectories. On our proposed LongTVQA and LongTVQA+ which are episode-level datasets aggregated from TVQA/TVQA+, our multi-agent system significantly outperforms strong non-agent baselines. Experiments also show reinforcement learning further strengthens reasoning and planning for the trained agent.

AFT-Tab: Adversarial Fine-Tuning for Tabular Data Synthesis with Long Text Columns

Yuhao Zhang, Liang Yan Harbin Institute of Technology, Shenzhen, Shaoming Duan, Xinyu Zha, Jinhang Su Harbin Institute of Technology(Shenzhen), Peiyi Han Harbin Institute of Technology(ShenZhen), Chuanyi Liu Harbin Institute of Technology

Traditional tabular data synthesis methods often overlook the cross-modal heterogeneity of real-world tables, where structured continuous and discrete attributes coexist with unstructured long-text columns. Existing synthesis approaches struggle to simultaneously achieve accurate statistical fidelity for non-textual attributes and consistent semantic constraints between textual and non-textual attributes. In this work, we establish the first benchmark for long-text tabular data synthesis and introduce a novel metric, termed Textual Column Correlation Fidelity (TCCF), to quantify cross-modal semantic alignment. We propose AFT-Tab, an adversarial fine-tuning framework that synergistically trains an LLM-based text generator and a deep-learning-based non-textual generator. Through a dual-feedback mechanism guided by an LLM discriminator, AFT-Tab ensures both precise statistical distributions and rigorous semantic constraints. Experimental results show that AFT-Tab significantly outperforms state-of-the-art baselines in statistical fidelity, TCCF, diversity, and downstream task utility.

LLM-VA: Resolving the Jailbreak-Overrefusal Trade-off via Vector Alignment

Haonan Zhang Nanyang Technological University and Zhejiang University, Dongxia Wang Zhejiang University, Yi Liu Quantstamp, Kexin Chen, Wenhai Wang Zhejiang University

Safety-aligned LLMs suffer from two failure modes: jailbreak (responding to harmful inputs) and over-refusal (declining benign queries). Existing vector steering methods adjust the magnitude of answer vectors, but this creates a fundamental trade-off—reducing jailbreak increases over-refusal and vice versa. We identify the root cause: LLMs encode the decision to respond (answer vector v_a) and the judgment of input safety (benign vector v_b) as nearly orthogonal directions, treating them as independent processes. We propose LLM-VA, which aligns v_a with v_b through closed-form weight updates, making the model’s willingness to respond causally dependent on its safety assessment—without fine-tuning or architectural changes. Our method identifies vectors at each layer using SVMs, selects safety-relevant layers, and iteratively aligns vectors via minimum-norm weight modifications. Experiments on 12 LLMs demonstrate that LLM-VA achieves 11.45% higher F1 than the best baseline while preserving 95.92% utility, and automatically adapts to each model’s safety bias without manual tuning.Code and models are available at https://hotbento.github.io/LLM-VA-Web/.

Bridging the Sensory Gap: Visual Injection for Taxonomy Completion

Yuhang Niu, Hongyuan Xu Nankai University, Ciyi Liu, Bofan Wei, Jiaqi Ye, Yanlong Wen Nankai University, Xiaojie Yuan Nankai University

Taxonomy Completion aims to automatically integrate new concepts into existing hierarchies. However, existing text-only methods suffer from a ”Sensory Gap”: they struggle to differentiate ambiguous definitions (e.g., Latte vs. Cappuccino) and miss visual grouping signals. Consequently, they often misinterpret lexical overlaps as hierarchical dependencies, leading to erroneous structural predictions. To bridge this, we propose VITC, a framework leveraging Visual Injection for Taxonomy Completion. By mapping synthesized images into intrinsic pseudo-tokens, we enable the text encoder to perform holistic structural reasoning. To address injection challenges, we introduce Adaptive Residual Fusion, which decouples magnitude from selection to prevent visual signals from being drowned out, and the Multimodal Guided Adaptive Reweighting strategy, which leverages cross-modal consensus (Mutual Rescue and Complementary Mining) to filter noise and identify hard negatives. Experiments on three datasets demonstrate that VITC achieves state-of-the-art performance, delivering an average absolute gain of over 19% in Hit@1. Code is available at https://github.com/nyh-a/VITC.

MAS-Bench: A Unified Benchmark for Shortcut-Augmented Hybrid Mobile GUI Agents

Pengxiang Zhao, Guangyi Liu, Yaozhen Liang, Weiqing He, Zhengxi Lu, WenHao Wang, Yuehao Huang, Yuxiang Chai The Chinese University of Hong Kong 等 14 位作者

Shortcuts such as APIs and deep-links have emerged as efficient complements to flexible GUI operations, fostering a promising hybrid paradigm for MLLM-based mobile automation. However, systematic evaluation of GUI–shortcut hybrid agents remains largely underexplored. To bridge this gap, we introduce MAS-Bench, a benchmark that pioneers the evaluation of GUI-shortcut hybrid agents with a specific focus on the mobile domain. Beyond merely using predefined shortcuts, MAS-Bench assesses an agent’s capability to autonomously generate shortcuts by discovering and creating reusable, low-cost workflows. It features 139 complex tasks across 11 real-world applications, a knowledge base of 88 predefined shortcuts (APIs, deep-links, RPA scripts), and 9 evaluation metrics. Experiments demonstrate that hybrid agents achieve up to 68.3% success rate and 39% greater execution efficiency than GUI-only counterparts. Furthermore, our evaluation framework effectively reveals the quality gap between predefined and agent-generated shortcuts, validating its capability to assess shortcut generation methods. MAS-Bench addresses the lack of systematic benchmarks for GUI-shortcut hybrid mobile agents, providing a foundational platform for future advancements in creating more efficient and robust intelligent agents.

ReEx-SQL: Reasoning with Execution-Aware Reinforcement Learning for Text-to-SQL

Yaxun Dai Soochow University, Wenxuan Xie, Xialie Zhuang, Tianyu Yang Meituan, Ziyi Liu Soochow University, Haiqin Yang, Yiying Yang, Yuhang Zhao 等 10 位作者

Current Text-to-SQL reasoning models often lack integrated execution feedback during generation, and most existing approaches utilize feedback only for post-hoc correction. This separation not only limits real-time error correction, but may also introduce mistakes by altering otherwise correct SQL queries. To address these challenges, we present ReEx-SQL (Reasoning with Execution-Aware Reinforcement Learning), a Text-to-SQL framework that interacts with the SQL execution engine during decoding and dynamically adjusts reasoning based on execution feedback, thereby enabling context-sensitive query refinement and improved accuracy. ReEx-SQL achieves this through structured prompts with markup tags and a stepwise rollout strategy that incorporates execution feedback at each generation stage. For policy supervision, we design a composite reward function—featuring an exploration reward—to explicitly encourage effective interaction with the database. Furthermore, ReEx-SQL adopts a tree-based decoding strategy to facilitate exploratory reasoning and primarily aims to enhance parallel decoding efficiency. Notably, ReEx-SQL achieves 89.1% accuracy on Spider and 65.3% on BIRD at the 7B scale, surpassing baseline models by 2.7% and 2.6%, respectively. In addition, its tree-based decoding accelerates inference by 51.9% compared to linear decoding during sampling.

Free Energy-Driven Reinforcement Learning with Adaptive Advantage Shaping for Unsupervised Reasoning in LLMs

Yiming Huang Harbin Institute of Technology, Zhenbo Shi, Xin-Cheng Wen, Jichuan Zeng Tencent Inc., Cuiyun Gao Harbin Institute of Technology, Peiyi Han Harbin Institute of Technology(ShenZhen), Chuanyi Liu Harbin Institute of Technology

Unsupervised reinforcement learning (RL) has emerged as a promising paradigm for enabling self-improvement in large language models (LLMs). However, existing unsupervised RL-based methods often lack the capacity to adapt to the model’s evolving reasoning capabilities during training. Therefore, these methods can misdirect policy optimization in the absence of ground-truth supervision. To address this issue, we introduce FREIA, a novel RL-based algorithm built on two key innovations: (1) Free Energy-Driven Reward (FER) adapts rewards to balance consensus and exploration based on the Free Energy Principle. (2) Adaptive Advantage Shaping (AAS) adaptively adjusts learning signals based on the statistical characteristics of sampled rewards. Empirical evaluations on nine datasets across three reasoning tasks showcase that FREIA outperforms other unsupervised RL-based baselines. Notably, in mathematical reasoning tasks, FREIA surpasses other methods by an average of 0.5 to 3.5 points in Pass@1 using the DeepSeek-R1-Distill-Qwen-1.5B model.

UI-Copilot: Advancing Long-Horizon GUI Automation via Tool-Integrated Policy Optimization

Zhengxi Lu, Fei Tang Nankai University, Guangyi Liu, Jin Ma, Kaitao Song Apple, Xu Tan, Wenqi Zhang Zhejiang University, Weiming Lu Zhejiang University 等 11 位作者

MLLM-based GUI agents have demonstrated strong capabilities in complex user interface interaction tasks. However, long-horizon scenarios remain challenging, as these agents are burdened with tasks beyond their intrinsic capabilities, suffering from memory degradation, progress confusion, and math hallucination. To address these challenges, we present \textbf{UI-Copilot}, a collaborative framework where the GUI agent focuses on task execution while a lightweight copilot provides on-demand assistance for memory retrieval and numerical computation. We introduce memory decoupling to separate persistent observations from transient execution context, and train the policy agent to selectively invoke the copilot as Retriever or Calculator based on task demands. To enable effective tool invocation learning, we propose \underline{\textbf{T}}ool-\underline{\textbf{I}}ntegrated \underline{\textbf{P}}olicy \underline{\textbf{O}}ptimization (\textbf{TIPO}), which separately optimizes tool selection through single-turn prediction and task execution through on-policy multi-turn rollouts. Experimental results show that UI-Copilot-7B achieves state-of-the-art performance on challenging MemGUI-Bench, outperforming strong 7B-scale GUI agents such as GUI-Owl-7B and UI-TARS-1.5-7B. Moreover, UI-Copilot-7B delivers a 17.1% absolute improvement on AndroidWorld over the base Qwen model, highlighting UI-Copilot’s strong generalization to real-world GUI tasks. Analyzing Hate Speech Amplification on Fringe Platforms

Anika Ghosh Basu, Humberto Jesus Carlon, Junyi Liu

Fringe platforms like Gab harbor high volumes of hate speech due to minimal moderation and insular communities. Our study examines thefactors that determine how hate speech amplifies on these platforms. We prepared a novel dataset of 5K+ threads and 50K+ responses from four fringe platforms (Gab, 4chan, Stormfront, and Vanguard), including both structural features (e.g., timestamps, metadata) and con-tent features (e.g., original text, hate intensity of posts), where hate speech amplification was measured using platform-specific engagement metrics. We trained both Generalized Linear Models and Gradient Boosted Tree models to estimate how several features influence the amplification of hate speech on fringe platforms, and used Shapley value estimates to identify the relative importance of the features. Our analysis shows that research insights from social network analysis (SNA) of mainstream sites like X do not directly generalize to fringe platforms. For instance, our experiments show that using features like thread structure and disagreements in early response windows can give up to 74% lift in Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE) of predicting reply counts for hateful posts on fringe platforms, compared to a baseline model that has features like hate intensity and thread age (which would be considered predictive by regular SNA methods).

Gemini 1.5: Unlocking multimodal understanding across millions of tokens of context

Gemini Team, Petko Georgiev, Ving Ian Lei, Ryan Burnell, Libin Bai, Anmol Gulati, Garrett Tanzer, Damien Vincent 等 1137 位作者

In this report, we introduce the Gemini 1.5 family of models, representing the next generation of highly compute-efficient multimodal models capable of recalling and reasoning over fine-grained information from millions of tokens of context, including multiple long documents and hours of video and audio. The family includes two new models: (1) an updated Gemini 1.5 Pro, which exceeds the February version on the great majority of capabilities and benchmarks; (2) Gemini 1.5 Flash, a more lightweight variant designed for efficiency with minimal regression in quality. Gemini 1.5 models achieve near-perfect recall on long-context retrieval tasks across modalities, improve the state-of-the-art in long-document QA, long-video QA and long-context ASR, and match or surpass Gemini 1.0 Ultra's state-of-the-art performance across a broad set of benchmarks. Studying the limits of Gemini 1.5's long-context ability, we find continued improvement in next-token prediction and near-perfect retrieval (>99%) up to at least 10M tokens, a generational leap over existing models such as Claude 3.0 (200k) and GPT-4 Turbo (128k). Finally, we highlight real-world use cases, such as Gemini 1.5 collaborating with professionals on completing their tasks achieving 26 to 75% time savings across 10 different job categories, as well as surprising new capabilities of large language models at the frontier; when given a grammar manual for Kalamang, a language with fewer than 200 speakers worldwide, the model learns to translate English to Kalamang at a similar level to a person who learned from the same content.
