DeepSTEP: Simultaneous Tracking and Estimation of Pose for Animals and Humans

Shashikant Verma, Harish Katti, Soumyaratna Debnath, Yamuna Swamy, Shanmuganathan Raman

原文摘要

Maintaining a consistent identity across video frames while estimating pose is crucial for downstream tasks such as behavior analysis and action recognition, yet existing pipelines largely decouple tracking and pose estimation. Top-down methods rely on per-frame detections followed by identity association, leading to increased computational cost and error propagation, whereas bottom-up approaches often struggle to preserve identity reliably in multi-instance settings. To address these limitations, we introduce DeepSTEP (STEP), a Transformer-based framework for joint tracking and pose estimation across diverse animal species and humans. STEP unifies localization, identity maintenance, and keypoint estimation into a single model, eliminating the need for per-frame detections or post hoc matching. Our approach leverages discriminative model weight prediction to propagate target identity across frames while predicting anatomically meaningful keypoints. Discriminative model prediction typically requires predefined target states. In contrast, STEP assumes only an initial bounding box in the first frame, removing the need for explicit keypoint initialization. This is enabled by two components: Gaussian Map Soft Prediction (GMSP) and Offset Map Regression Adapter (OMRA), which allow direct keypoint prediction and simplify inference. Starting from the initial bounding box, STEP tracks the subject and estimates its pose in subsequent frames. We train and evaluate STEP on datasets spanning multiple species, demonstrating strong performance and greater efficiency than existing methods. By jointly modeling tracking and pose, STEP provides an effective and scalable solution.

Wide View Synthesis from Overlapping Perspective Cameras in Autonomous Driving

Kaixuan Zhang, Zhipeng Xiong, Minxian Li, Mingwu Ren, Xiatian Zhu

原文摘要

Multi-perspective-camera systems are widely adopted since they provide broad visual coverage for autonomous driving, motivating the synthesis of a unified wide view from spatially separated observations. In this work, we formulate wide view synthesis (WVS), which aims to synthesize a geometrically consistent wide view at a specified virtual viewpoint from multiple perspective cameras. Unlike conventional image stitching, WVS requires reasoning about 3D geometry and visibility to handle depth-dependent parallax and occlusions arising from spatially separated camera centers. While vanilla 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) enables high-fidelity view synthesis, its reliance on per-scene optimization limits its applicability to driving scenes. Furthermore, WVS introduces additional challenges, *e.g.*, peripheral stretching under perspective projection and photometric inconsistencies across cameras. To address these challenges, we propose **Wide-View Gaussian Splatting (WV-GS)**, a feed-forward Gaussian-splatting framework that synthesizes wide views without per-scene optimization. Specifically, we introduce Piecewise Perspective Rendering (PPR) to mitigate peripheral stretching through local perspective projections sharing a common camera center, and Spatial Affine Photometric Modeling (SAPM) to account for camera-dependent photometric variations during training. We further introduce **WideDrive**, a synthetic benchmark providing dense ground-truth wide views and adapt a LiDAR-projected sparse-reference protocol to real-world datasets. Extensive experiments on multiple datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of WV-GS for WVS. Dataset and code will be publicly released.

When Vision Overrides Language: Evaluating and Mitigating Counterfactual Failures in VLAs

Yu Fang, Yuchun Feng, Dong Jing, Jiaqi Liu, Yue Yang, Zhenyu Wei, Daniel Szafir, Mingyu Ding

原文摘要

Vision-Language-Action models (VLAs) promise to ground language instructions in robot control, yet in practice often fail to follow language faithfully. When presented with instructions that lack strong scene-specific supervision, VLAs suffer from counterfactual failures: they act based on vision shortcuts induced by dataset biases, repeatedly executing well-learned behaviors and selecting objects frequently seen during training regardless of language intent. To support systematic study, we introduce LIBERO-CF, the first counterfactual benchmark for VLAs that evaluates language following capability by assigning alternative, feasible task instructions under the same LIBERO scene layouts. Our evaluation reveals that counterfactual failures are prevalent yet underexplored across state-of-the-art VLAs. To mitigate these failures, we propose Counterfactual Action Guidance (CAG), a simple yet effective dual-branch inference scheme that explicitly strengthens language conditioning in VLAs. CAG combines a standard VLA policy with a parallel language-unconditioned branch, amplifying the difference between their action predictions induced by language instructions. This design reduces reliance on vision shortcuts, improves robustness on counterfactual tasks, and requires neither additional demonstrations nor modifications to the base VLA architecture or its pretrained weights. Extensive experiments demonstrate consistent improvements across diverse VLAs. On LIBERO-CF, our training-free variant, TF-CAG, improves $π_{0.5}$ by 9.7% in language grounding and 3.6% in task success. When using a separate Vision-Action (VA) module, VA-CAG achieves larger gains of 15.5% and 8.5%, respectively. In real-world evaluations, VA-CAG improves language grounding by 9.4% and task success by 17.2% on average.

SD-LoRA: Training-Time Structural Distillation into LoRA for Few-Shot Vision-Language Adaptation

Mohammed Rahman Sherif Khan Mohammad, Ardhendu Behera, Sandip Pradhan, Swagat Kumar, Yonghuai Liu

原文摘要

Few-shot adaptation of vision-language models must balance two competing goals: learning fine-grained visual distinctions from very limited supervision and preserving the efficiency that makes frozen CLIP-like models attractive for deployment. Existing lightweight adaptation methods, including prompt tuning, LoRA, and cache-based adapters, typically supervise global image embeddings and therefore underuse token-level structure. Conversely, structure-aware methods exploit local evidence but often introduce additional inference-time computation. We propose SD-LoRA, a structural distillation framework that uses token-level graph reasoning only during training and transfers its effects into a lightweight LoRA-adapted CLIP model. During training, a heterogeneous graph teacher models patch-patch, global-local, and visual-text relations over high-resolution ViT tokens. Rather than retaining this graph at test time, SD-LoRA transfers its structural bias into the shared CLIP-LoRA backbone through implicit distillation and Prototype Predictive Alignment, which aligns graph-conditioned representations with support-derived class prototypes. At inference, the graph teacher is discarded; prediction requires only a single CLIP-LoRA forward pass and a cache-based classifier. Across 11 few-shot benchmarks, SD-LoRA improves over a strong CLIP-LoRA baseline by 2.4/1.8/3.0/2.4/2.0 percentage points in the 1/2/4/8/16-shot settings, respectively, without additional graph computation at test time. Results on base-to-novel generalization, cross-dataset transfer, out-of-distribution robustness, and calibration further show that training-time structural supervision improves both accuracy and transfer reliability. Code is available at https://github.com/MR-Sherif/SD-LoRA.git.

Segment What It Can Draw: Querying a Text-to-Image Generator with Its Own Images for Skin Lesion Segmentation

Hongyu Cao, Guangfu Guo, Jinghan Zhang, Dakshak Keerthi Chandra, Ying Zhang, Kunpeng Liu

原文摘要

Skin lesion segmentation without annotated masks requires the target to be specified through other cues. Existing approaches rely on dermoscopy-specific rules, annotation-derived model priors, or user-selected regions. A general text-to-image diffusion transformer offers a text interface to the target, but its concept-word attention is unreliable on dermoscopy images: in the model's attention-output space, the word-derived skin-to-lesion direction is poorly aligned with the direction separating real skin from real lesions. We show that the direction derived from generated healthy-skin and lesion images is substantially better aligned. Based on this finding, we propose GENIQ, a training-free method that constructs initial skin and lesion prototypes from generated images and refines them using the most skin-like and lesion-like patches from unlabelled dermoscopy images. It scores test patches along the refined direction and applies a gated threshold to suppress contextual spill-over around small lesions. Without inference-time annotations or additional models, GENIQ achieves Dice scores of 0.85-0.88 on three dermoscopy test sets. It outperforms zero-shot and word-based attention methods on all three sets, and a hand-designed dermoscopy pipeline in Dice and IoU on two.

Expanding the Quality-Coverage Frontier with Competitive Flow Matching

原文摘要

Flow matching (FM) generators often face a quality-coverage tradeoff. Inference-time techniques such as classifier-free guidance raise quality, but at the cost of coverage. We hypothesize this limitation stems from a basic property of the objective: an intermediate noisy image could correspond to many clean images, yet the model can only predict a single velocity, at best averaging over the multiple possibilities. To mitigate this, we introduce competition among predictions during training. We achieve this by augmenting the predictor with a randomly drawn low-dimensional conditioning code $z$. For each training example, we sample $K$ values of $z$ to produce $K$ candidate velocities that compete to explain the target, and apply the loss only to the best-matching candidate. This winner-take-all objective allows different modes to shape different predictions, rather than being averaged into a single compromise. Furthermore, this term naturally enables a new form of guidance, auxiliary conditioning scaling, which complements traditional guidance methods. Together, these two guidance mechanisms show that our method substantially improves the quality-coverage frontier. We validate on ImageNet-256, using two different testbeds, SiT and RAEv2. Given less than 3% of the original SiT pretraining compute for post-training, at the 67% Recall point, our method reduces $\mathrm{FD}_{r,6}$ from 19.22 to 5.91. On RAEv2, at the 70% Recall point, it reduces $\mathrm{FD}_{r,6}$ from 16.83 to 3.18.

Robustness of Internal Signals for Hallucination Detection in Vision-Language Models

Allison Chen, William Yang, Salma Abdel Magid, Jonathan Williams, Olga Russakovsky, Esin Tureci

原文摘要

When given an image and a text prompt, vision-language models (VLMs) can produce seemingly sophisticated text responses. However, they are also prone to hallucinate objects in their output, which can have detrimental consequences in safety-critical applications. To detect these hallucinations, certain methods interestingly leverage internal signals from the VLM as it generates the text response; potentially, these methods use the same signals that led to a hallucination to detect it. We conduct an in-depth analysis to understand the robustness of these detection methods. First, we show that a naive baseline of a generated word's token position in the VLM text response achieves competitive performance. Further, we reveal how some detection methods rely on token position and use this heuristic as a shortcut. Second, we explore detection methods' sensitivity to language and vision modalities. Our experiments suggest that strong detection performance is often driven by detecting language-based hallucinations, and when methods rely on token position, they tend to be less visually grounded and exhibit reduced robustness when hallucinations occur earlier in a text response. Lastly, we demonstrate that different detection methods can carry complementary signals; when ensembling methods together, adding weaker methods to an ensemble of higher performing ones still offers performance improvements. Altogether, while there may be useful internal VLM signals to detect hallucinations, our investigation reveals important limitations of the current methods that try to leverage them.

Gaussians Can Subtract: Neural Dissolve Fields for Hybrid Scene Rendering

Yiyan Wang, Haohan Liu, Tetsuo Shibuya

原文摘要

Hybrid Mesh-Gaussian rendering combines compact textured surfaces with flexible 3D Gaussian primitives, offering an efficient alternative to purely Gaussian scene representations for structured environments. Existing scene-reconstruction hybrids commonly follow an additive formulation, where Gaussian residuals compensate for errors left by the mesh. However, not every Mesh-Gaussian conflict is caused by missing content: residual geometry errors, occlusion mismatch, texture-projection artifacts, and view-dependent appearance can make the same mesh content consistent in one view but inconsistent in another. We therefore formulate hybrid rendering as a multi-view inconsistency problem and present Gaussolve, a subtract-and-refill framework that selectively dissolves inconsistent mesh content before residual Gaussians refill the revealed regions. We introduce a lightweight Neural Dissolve Field, parameterized by scalar spherical-harmonic Gaussians, to learn where and from which viewing directions mesh content should be dissolved. A continuous transmittance fusion rule progressively exposes residual Gaussians behind the dissolved mesh, preserving their reconstruction gradients and avoiding hard visibility discontinuities. Experiments on structured and semi-structured scenes demonstrate higher visual fidelity with fewer Gaussian primitives and faster rendering. AI-Generated Image Detectors Exploit Global Artifacts: Evidence from Inpainting Exchange

Elif Nebioglu, Emirhan Bilgiç, Adrian Popescu

原文摘要

Modern diffusion-based inpainting enables realistic, localized image manipulation, raising critical challenges for reliable detection. We show that state-of-the-art AI-generated image detectors largely fail to identify \emph{what} was synthesized and instead exploit a \emph{global} artifact introduced as a side effect of the generation pipeline: latent-diffusion inpainting passes the entire image through a VAE encoder--decoder, inducing a subtle but pervasive spectral shift even in unedited regions. We turn this observation into a simple, model-free diagnostic, \emph{Inpainting Exchange} (INP-X), that restores the original pixels outside the edited region while preserving all synthesized content. To study the effect at scale, we build a benchmark of $30$K matched real, standard-inpainted, and exchanged triplets ($90$K images) spanning four datasets and three inpainters. INP-X requires no model access and is a single compositing step, yet it collapses pretrained detectors, commercial APIs, and bias-aware methods toward chance (commercial APIs: $>$$90\%\!\to\!\sim$$55\%$; the bias-aware DDA: $97.6\%\!\to\!58.4\%$). We give formal propositions linking the effect to high-frequency attenuation from the VAE information bottleneck, and we causally isolate it with a factorial battery and a variance decomposition that attributes $97\%$ of the background spectral shift to the autoencoder round-trip alone. A perceptual study ($n{=}153$) shows the shift is also perceptible to humans, whose accuracy falls from $63.8\%$ to $56.2\%$ ($p{=}0.002$): significantly reduced, though not eliminated. Finally, we show that mechanism-driven mitigations (mixed-distribution and localization-supervised training) improve robustness, but detecting INP-X edits remains an open problem. TraCE: Trajectory-Aware Concepts for Explainable Video Understanding

Wooil Lee, Junpyo Hong, Jongseo Lee, Tuomas Oikarinen, Tsui-Wei Weng, Jinwoo Choi

原文摘要

Video understanding models often rely on motion, yet their explanations can obscure which motion sources support a prediction. We identify motion-source under-specification as a limitation of existing video XAI: region-centric explanations can be source-ambiguous, while motion vocabularies restricted to single-person pose sequences are source-incomplete. We propose TraCE (Trajectory-Aware Concepts for Explainable Video Understanding), a concept-based framework that discovers source-flexible motion concepts by clustering optical-flow trajectories from training videos. These concepts represent dynamic evidence from people, objects, and interactions, while object and scene concepts account for static context. The resulting typed trajectory/object/scene interface supports class prediction for action recognition and question-conditioned concept matching for video question answering (VQA). We evaluate TraCE across five random seeds on six benchmarks: NTU RGB+D Mutual, Chiral SSv2, UCF-101, KTH, TOMATO, and STAR. Relative to non-interpretable baselines, TraCE maintains competitive task performance, with an average accuracy drop of 1.0 points for action recognition and a nominal gain of 0.4 points for VQA. Motion perturbation and concept-removal tests provide complementary evidence of directional semantic alignment and decision faithfulness, while sample-level interventions illustrate targeted model debugging. 查看原文摘要

Vision-language-action models are typically built on a simple premise: perception is first compressed by visual encoders, and action reasoning begins only afterwards. Yet manipulation often hinges on precisely the visual signals most vulnerable to this abstraction, e.g., local geometry, boundaries, depth, and subtle state changes. This raises a fundamental question: should action policies inherit a fixed visual endpoint, or directly access evolving visual computation? We introduce NEO-VLA, a structurally encoder-free vision-language-action framework. Images are tokenized by lightweight patch convolutional layers and evolve jointly with language throughout the backbone, allowing a flow-matching action expert to draw from instruction-conditioned visual representations at different depths. This simple change reveals a consistent pattern. Native architectures outperform encoder-based counterparts under controlled comparisons; full fine-tuning reduces but does not erase the gap, and additional scale alone cannot recover it. More strikingly, layer-wise probing shows that the action-critical signals often peak well before the final visual representation. Across diverse manipulation settings and distribution shifts, NEO-VLA consequently achieves stronger and more robust control. Together, these results suggest that embodied control benefits from access to visual representations across the computational hierarchy, rather than a fixed encoder output.

Humanoid robots have the potential to automate a wide range of physical tasks. Progress toward generalist humanoid autonomy, however, remains constrained by a data bottleneck: mapping pixels and free-form language to low-level joint commands requires paired supervision, and no corpus of such data exists at sufficiently large scale. Some approaches rely on human teleoperation and wearable capture devices, which require at least an hour of human time to produce an hour of data. We present HALO, a humanoid autonomy system powered by a pipeline that synthesizes vision-language-motion data across a thousand procedurally generated homes. The corpus scales with compute rather than human labor. HALO acquires a repertoire of physical skills, including sitting on chairs, navigating to named objects, stepping sideways through half-open doors, crouching and crawling beneath tables, and pushing boxes. It orchestrates these skills to solve composite, long-horizon tasks. Without ever seeing a real home during training, HALO transfers zero-shot to the physical world, achieving a 91% success rate across 360 trials in six unmapped real-world environments. JEPA-style world models learn action-conditioned latent dynamics without reconstructing observations, but distributional regularization alone does not ensure that their representations preserve information needed for control. We identify static collapse, a failure mode in which the encoder preserves episode-specific static content while suppressing manipulation-relevant state changes. Because static content is temporally predictable yet diverse across episodes, this failure can persist despite regularizers such as SIGReg. A controlled study on OGBench-Cube shows that introducing randomized backgrounds substantially degrades planning performance while leaving the underlying manipulation task unchanged. To address this problem, we propose motion-guided contrastive regularization. Our approach compares predicted latent transitions with transitions to candidate observations from the same episode, reducing the usefulness of static background identity for distinguishing action outcomes. Optical-flow similarities provide soft contrastive targets, allowing candidates with similar motion to receive similar supervision. Combined with latent prediction and SIGReg, our objective encourages representations to preserve within-episode state distinctions and similarities between related transitions. Our method improves planning success over LeWorldModel (LeWM) from 52% to 78% on OGBench-Cube with randomized backgrounds and from 14% to 54% on LIBERO-Object, while maintaining comparable performance on four other visual-control benchmarks.

Knowing that a pedestrian is occluded is useful to a robot even when the detector cannot recover the hidden pixels, but occlusion estimators are normally trained on occlusion annotations that deployment settings rarely have. We show that occlusion can be read off two distance estimates a camera-only pipeline already computes. Apparent height is largely unchanged by occlusion, because the detected box still spans the whole person; monocular metric depth is pulled toward the occluder, because the nearest surface inside the box is what a depth map reports. Only their ordering matters, so no focal length, stature, or depth scale is needed, provided the depth model's error is close to a pure gain, a condition that can be checked without labels. The score detects heavy occlusion on KITTI with AUC 0.909 (0.888 over all annotated pedestrians, including those the detector misses), requires no training and no occlusion labels, and is not a proxy for range: within fixed distance bands it holds AUC 0.894-0.925 while true distance alone sits near chance. On synthetic CARLA scenes with measured visibility it reaches 0.819, against 0.644 for distance alone. We arrived here after measuring three standard architectural responses to occlusion, depth fusion, occlusion-simulating augmentation, and attention, none of which improved detection outside its training distribution in the configurations we tested, and after finding that a detector trained on German roads loses half its accuracy on self-annotated street scenes in Lagos, Nigeria. Signals that need no local annotation are worth more in settings that benchmarks do not represent.

For many computer vision tasks, neural networks can be trained to produce a low average error, yet they still fail on seemingly simple scenes. Reducing these failures requires first finding them, but they may not be in a fixed dataset. We study procedural adversarial learning (PAL), a framework of minimax training and adversarial evaluation which searches the input space of a procedural generator for difficult instances. The procedural generator is an interpretable program mapping a low-dimensional vector of control parameters (e.g. layout, lighting, pose) to a rendered image and its label. We introduce the Simple-PAT algorithm, which uses zeroth-order optimization in the procedural generator's parameter space to propose adversarial training samples that are generated on demand. We also create PAL-Dojo, a collection of efficient procedural generators for surface normal estimation, image segmentation, and human pose estimation. Against a cross-model black-box adversary with 50M aggregate queries, Simple-PAT reduces worst-case error by a geometric mean of 3.15x compared to standard training and 2.63x compared to the strongest robust training baseline. This paper presents GSCV++, a lightweight pipeline for 3D {G}aussian {S}platting (GS) sequences {C}ompression with standard {V}ideo codecs. To meet the requirements of low-complexity and hardware compatibility from the industry, GSCV++ jointly improves preprocessing, 3D-to-2D mapping, and practical video compression configuration of GS compression. First, for preprocessing, energy-adaptive inter-frame spherical harmonic (SH) alternative current (AC) dimensionality reduction (EA-SHDR) is proposed to produces a compact and stable temporal SH AC feature space. It can reduce the data volume of following mapping and practical compression, as well as less complexity while eliminating redundant information. Second, for 3D-to-2D mapping, prior-based Inter-MiniPLAS (P-MiniPLAS) is designed to generate smooth 2D feature maps through prior-based weighting factor inference and small scale remapping. Compared with vanilla Parallel Linear Assignment Sorting (PLAS) and Morton scan, P-MiniPLAS ensures the generated 2D maps are more suitable for the video codec while maintaining a low level of computational complexity. Third, for practical compression, content-aware generalized compression (CA-GC) is developed to use a non-uniform bit-depth split for coordinate map generation, and a coding unit size selection is introduced for efficient compression complexity control, which fully exploits the performance of video codecs without involving normative changes. Experiments demonstrate that GSCV++ reports over 20\% in intra- and 60\% in inter-prediction rate-distortion gains compared with state-of-the-art (SOTA) methods. GSCV++ also achieves faster 2D map generation, encoding, and decoding than other SOTA methods using the same type of video codecs. Ablation studies verify the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed modules and provide insights for subsequent research.

Existing continuous space-time video super-resolution methods often infer motion from only two endpoint frames and model the two motion directions independently, making them vulnerable to ambiguous correspondence and inconsistent trajectories. We introduce a continuous STVSR framework that combines long-context encoding, continuous HR feature lifting, and an endpoint-anchored PixelSpline. Long-range observations provide more reliable endpoint representations, while continuous upsampling constructs detailed appearance features directly on the requested HR grid. PixelSpline explicitly models each pixel's motion as a single continuous trajectory shared by both endpoints. Using this trajectory, our method warps endpoint colors into a coarse intermediate frame and aligns the HR features for residual reconstruction. Experiments across spatial and temporal upsampling settings demonstrate that the proposed framework offers a favorable quality--efficiency trade-off.

Automated identification of individual animals is moving from small curated studies toward shared benchmarks and reusable foundation models. This progress is useful, but current evaluation leaves the evidence behind a match unresolved, i.e., high retrieval accuracy does not show whether a model used animal features or identity-correlated shortcuts. We address this with Counterfactual Foreground Retrieval (CFR), an evidence-aware evaluation protocol. CFR evaluates the same query-gallery task under different views: full image, foreground-only, and shortcut-only. The full-image measures standard retrieval performance; the foreground-only measures foreground-supported retrieval; and shortcut-only view measure how much identity signal is recoverable from background, or silhouette. This turns a retrieval score into an evidence profile: how well the model performs on the original images, how much of that performance remains when only the animal is visible, and how much identity signal remains recoverable when the animal is removed. We release around 0.5M masks for 34 datasets and code for mask generation and CFR evaluation.

Batch-Conditioned Semantic Anchors for Robust Transductive Adaptation of Vision--Language Models

Mohammed Rahman Sherif Khan Mohammad, Ardhendu Behera, Sandip Pradhan, Swagat Kumar, Amr Ahmed

原文摘要

Transductive adaptation improves vision-language models at test time by refining predictions on an unlabeled batch, but current methods face a key trade-off. Aggressive approaches exploit batch structure but can drift when batches are sparse, have prior shift, or cover little of the label space. Conservative methods better preserve CLIP text semantics, but fixed semantic references can under-adapt even when the batch provides strong corrective evidence. We propose JPTA (Joint Prior and Transport Adaptation), a prior-aware framework that casts transductive VLM adaptation as batch-conditioned semantic reference estimation. Instead of treating CLIP text prototypes as fixed priors or freely replaceable, JPTA views them as semantic references that shift toward image-side batch structure only under calibrated evidence. It estimates batch priors and soft image-side prototypes to form transported semantic references whose impact is scaled by batch reliability. Across standard benchmarks, low effective-class regimes, all-class evaluation, and online streams, JPTA consistently outperforms TransCLIP and StatA, with the largest gains on sparse and prior-shifted batches. Anchor-drift, active-support, and absent-class-mass diagnostics show that JPTA fixes effective-class mismatch without unconstrained transductive drift, indicating that robust transductive VLM adaptation should recalibrate semantic references using reliable batch evidence rather than choose between unrestricted transduction and fixed prototypes. We introduce LongBanana, to our knowledge the first expert-designed and expert-verified benchmark for long-context multi-reference image synthesis in the age of agent-driven image generation. The task requires retrieving dispersed visual evidence, rejecting distractors, binding entities and relations, and composing one coherent final image from multiple references. LongBanana contains 90 carefully designed tasks organized by a 3-by-3 taxonomy; each task includes about 32 reference images, 20 constraints, and 50 evaluation items, yielding 4,670 expert-specified atomic evaluation items in total. Its graph-grounded evaluation design instantiates each task with reference images and an entity-relation graph, then converts node, edge, and whole-graph obligations into checklist items for Content Fidelity, Relational Binding, and Global Constraint Satisfaction. Reviewed expert labels include a 15% double-labeled subset with 89.4% exact agreement and 0.83 quadratic weighted kappa. We further introduce LongBanana-Gen, an agent-harness framework for long-horizon image generation; experiments show that minimal agent harnesses improve over direct generation, while a ReAct-Plan-Exec-Reflect (RPR) workflow yields harness-dependent gains by strengthening evidence grounding and repair. Together, LongBanana provides an auditable testbed for measuring dense visual evidence use and a shared target for developing stronger agent-driven image-generation systems. Computer-use agents (CUAs) have recently achieved superhuman performance on several long-horizon benchmarks. However, their computational cost limits their use in long-horizon tasks and real-time domains such as video games. A key bottleneck is representing each screenshot as thousands of visual tokens, which accumulate into long contexts as agents reason over extended interaction histories. We observe that most of these visual tokens are either semantically irrelevant to the agent's next action or temporally redundant across screenshots. Building on this observation, we introduce Visual Token Routing (VTR), a joint training framework for learning sparse visual representations that preserve the information needed for action prediction. In VTR, we train the vision-language model together with a lightweight spatio-temporal router that examines each image region in the current and previous screenshots and decides whether its visual token enters the language model. We optimize the router using an adaptive loss to keep the number of visual tokens as small as possible while minimizing performance degradation. With just 2,000 training steps, VTR matches the performance of the full-resolution model on OSWorld, CUA-World, and video game action prediction, while using 2.5-5.8x fewer visual tokens. These savings reduce inference cost by up to 3.3x and speed up prefill by up to 2.9x. VTR also outperforms lowering the image resolution and other baselines for dropping tokens, by up to 12.8 points on OSWorld. Overall, VTR enables computer-use agents to process only the visual tokens they need, allowing them to be used in long-horizon tasks and real-time domains at a fraction of the computational cost. Resolve, Clear, or Defer: Training-Free Active Prototype Triage for Ecological Detection Pipelines

原文摘要

Ecological monitoring increasingly relies on camera traps and aerial surveys that generate large image collections. High-recall animal detectors can localize candidate animals at scale. However, they also produce many detections that still require expert review, including false positives, ambiguous cases, and animals difficult to identify at the species level. Since exhaustive review requires substantial effort, we propose training-free active prototype triage, where reviewed detections become reusable evidence to (1) Resolve supported foreground classes, (2) Clear likely background false positives, or (3) Defer insufficiently supported cases for expert review. Across camera-trap and aerial datasets, foreground recognition and false-positive rejection benefit from different pretrained representations: BioCLIP2 provides foreground evidence while DINOv3 provides background evidence, reducing erroneous foreground clearing while improving automatic foreground recovery. Deferring unsupported cases avoids the higher error rates caused by forced decisions. Compared with confidence-thresholded multiclass k-NN and uncertainty-sampling logistic regression, prototype triage improves foreground recovery while maintaining competitive or lower review burden. Acquisition goes beyond class discovery: even after classes are represented, prototype choice determines how reliably evidence propagates through the remaining detections. Our results suggest that once animal localization reaches high recall, the challenge shifts from finding animals to deciding which examples to review, how to reuse them, and when evidence does not support an automatic decision.

Video generation models synthesize realistic motion, but can they respond correctly to changes in initial geometry? We introduce GeoFlip, a video generation benchmark centered on physical outcome flips induced by geometry. With shared physical settings and textual prompts held fixed, GeoFlip applies controlled interventions to support extent, object placement, and mechanism configuration, constructing paired scenes with contrasting reference events, such as remaining stable versus falling or tipping. These pairs test whether models translate geometric differences in the first frame into correct physical evolution. The benchmark comprises 482 scene pairs and 964 reference videos across six physical categories, with reference outcomes established through procedural scene construction, physics simulation, and numerical validation and verification of physical events. We evaluate 16 models for image to video generation along three dimensions: event correctness, structural integrity, and similarity to reference videos. We examine evaluation consistency with independent vision language judges. On the 442 conditions shared by all models, the highest event correctness averaged across tasks is 27.98%, revealing substantial limitations in physical generation conditioned on geometry. Model strengths vary across physical mechanisms, and the three evaluation dimensions capture distinct capabilities. Typical failures include ignoring geometric changes, generating incorrect object motion, bending rigid objects, and introducing additional components. Rank correlations between judges reach 0.906 for event correctness and 0.929 for structural integrity. By combining controlled geometric interventions, verifiable physical references, and multidimensional evaluation, GeoFlip assesses progress from visual realism toward physical consistency conditioned on geometry.

A central yet under-explored question in Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) is where to connect---how visual information from a hierarchical vision encoder should be wired into the layer-wise semantics of a large language model. Mainstream MLLMs inject a fixed single-layer visual representation into the LLM and treat all LLM layers as a single consumer, ignoring that different layers demand different visual granularities. Recent multi-layer fusion methods either compress hierarchical features on the encoder side or rely on predefined sparse or hierarchical layer-to-layer connections, and therefore stop short of modeling adaptive cross-layer interactions between the ViT and LLM hierarchies. We address this gap with DGP (Dynamic Gated Pathways), a routing mechanism that establishes all-to-all connections between every ViT layer and every LLM layer, with each LLM layer dynamically gating its preference over visual layers conditioned on its own semantic state. Built on top of LLaVA-1.5-7B and 13B, DGP delivers consistent gains over the LLaVA-1.5-7B baseline (e.g., +4.2 on SQA$^{I}$, +3.3 on MM-Vet, +3.1 on VizWiz and LLaVA$^{W}$) and surpasses prior multi-layer visual fusion methods on most benchmarks. Layer-wise routing analyses further show that different LLM layers do select different visual granularities on demand, supporting both the effectiveness and interpretability of the proposed dynamic gated pathways. Ask SD3.5-Medium for twelve of an object and then, from the same starting noise, for twenty-five. The picture keeps its layout, but the count changes about as much as it would under a new random seed, and in no consistent direction. We study what number words do once a request passes about ten objects, in five open text-to-image models. Holding the object and the starting noise fixed, we change one thing at a time, and people who never see the request count 3,088 of the images. Every model follows the number for small crowds, but only up to a point, its reach: SD3.5-M and FLUX.1-dev stop following it soon after ten, while FLUX.2 [klein] and Qwen-Image follow it loosely up to twenty-five. Beyond SD3.5-M's reach, the coarse part of the starting noise fixes the composition of the picture but not how many objects it holds: redrawing only the noise finer than an eighth of the image keeps the layout as well as a new number does, and already moves the count two-thirds as far. The number word still reaches the denoiser and acts in its first steps, but nothing we tried gives it a clear direction. Shown instead as a noised grid in the starting latent, the count is drawn: people find it in 59% of images, against 4% when it is only told. Past ten, an exact-match score barely separates a model that follows the number loosely from one that ignores it, and a relative-error score can even prefer a constant guess of sixteen. A same-noise test with a few requests per object tells them apart.

Autoregressive image generation has recently emerged as a competitive visual generation paradigm, yet its generation order is often predefined or heuristic, such as next-patch prediction, random-order prediction, or one-step generation for specific scales. We observe that these strategies can cause models to overlook important structural dependencies in images, thereby limiting both structural robustness and reasoning capability. In this work, we propose a context-aware autoregressive generation framework, where the model dynamically determines the next token location based on global context and current local information. Rather than following a fixed or random order, our method allows the generation process to adapt to image structure and semantic dependencies. Extensive experiments show that context-aware generation significantly improves structural robustness across different image AR paradigms, including masked autoregressive and scale-wise autoregressive models. Beyond quantitative improvements, we further observe emerging reasoning properties: the model can better understand complex semantic instructions and generate images that more faithfully follow the given guidance. These findings suggest that generation order is a critical yet underexplored factor in image autoregressive modeling, and that context-aware decoding can unlock stronger reasoning-aware visual generation capabilities. Diffusion and rectified flow (RF) models generate high-fidelity images and videos, but their iterative velocity-field evaluations are computationally expensive. Existing caching methods accelerate sampling by skipping timesteps, yet their coarse approximations introduce accumulated errors over long skip intervals and degrade quality under aggressive acceleration. We propose TACache (Trajectory-Aware Cache), a training-free acceleration framework following a skip-then-compensate paradigm. TACache performs an orthogonal decomposition of discrete velocity acceleration along the RF trajectory into a parallel component and an orthogonal residual, isolating the magnitude and directional sources of per-step approximation error. The framework operates in two stages: offline, cumulative variation thresholds on the magnitude and direction indicators yield the skip schedule and bound how far each skip interval may extend; online, at each skipped step the offline statistics are combined with the sample's historical orthogonal direction to reconstruct the skipped velocity without additional model evaluations. Main comparisons on BAGEL, FLUX.1-dev, and Wan2.1-1.3B show that TACache achieves up to $4.11\times$ speedup on text-to-image generation and $2.11\times$ speedup on text-to-video generation, with consistent improvements over prior cache-based methods on most quality metrics. Cue-guided dual-path reconstruction with adaptive multi-scale response refinement for low-light image enhancement

原文摘要

Low-light image enhancement (LLIE) supports optical sensing and scene observation when limited photon capture and sensor noise degrade image quality. However, existing methods can introduce colour deviations or blur local details in the enhanced images. To address this challenge, we propose CueDR-Net, a dual-path network that combines brightness adjustment with local content reconstruction through bidirectional cue interaction and adaptive multi-scale refinement. Specifically, a fixed extractor derives luminance variation, colour, and texture cue maps from the input image. These maps are encoded in a cue stream that exchanges features with the image stream through bidirectional attention. The exchanged features support two paths for brightness adjustment and local content reconstruction. The brightness adjustment path predicts pixel wise adjustment maps that control iterative intensity changes in the input image. In parallel, the residual path uses the exchanged features to predict an additive correction for local content reconstruction. To capture weak structures across scales, Adaptive Multi-Scale Response Refinement Convolution (AMRRConv) refines the features used for both predictions. It fuses learnable local transition responses with multi-scale features from factorized three-plane filtering using pixel wise weights. The adjusted image is added to the correction before being mapped to the enhanced image. Evaluations on LOLv1, LSRW-HUAWEI, and LSRW-NIKON demonstrate competitive enhancement performance, supported by ablation studies. AMRRConv also achieves competitive low-light detection performance with a small neck parameter count when integrated into YOLOv11.

World models learn to predict the temporal evolution of visual observations given a control signal, potentially enabling agents to reason about environments through forward simulation. Because of the focus on forward simulation, current world models generate predictions based on factual observations. For many emerging applications, such as comprehensive evaluations of physical AI behavior under varying conditions, the ability of world models to answer counterfactual queries -- such as "what would happen if this object was removed?" -- is of increasing importance. We formalize counterfactual world models that additionally take interventions as explicit inputs, predicting temporal sequences under hypothetical modifications to observed scene properties. Traditional world models operate directly on entangled pixel-space representations where object properties and relationships cannot be selectively modified. This modeling choice prevents targeted interventions on specific scene properties. We introduce CWMDT, a framework to overcome those limitations, turning standard video diffusion models into effective counterfactual world models. First, CWMDT constructs digital twins of observed scenes to explicitly encode objects and their relationships, represented as structured text. Second, CWMDT applies large language models to reason over these representations and predict how a counterfactual intervention propagates through time to alter the observed scene. Third, CWMDT conditions a video diffusion model with the modified representation to generate counterfactual visual sequences. Evaluations on two benchmarks show that the CWMDT approach achieves state-of-the-art performance, suggesting that alternative representations of videos, such as the digital twins considered here, offer powerful control signals for video forward simulation-based world models.

Few-step distillation offers efficient generation with diffusion and flow models, but preserving quality with only a few sampling steps remains challenging. Distribution-matching methods via score distillation provide a strong foundation, yet they rely on accurately tracking the student's changing distribution. At intermediate generation steps in few-step sampling, student-score estimation can be difficult, and commonly used estimators may describe a different distribution from the one used to update the student. Flow matching allows a more flexible approach to supervision through velocity fields constructed from the student's sampling process. Building on this perspective, we introduce Velocity Adversarial Distillation (VAD), which uses a learned critic to compare student and teacher fields and turn their disagreement into feedback for learning. VAD unifies score distillation, Fisher-based matching, and moment matching, also explaining existing heuristic MMD updates and delivering new training objectives. We further develop VA-TDM, which follows trajectory distribution matching: providing supervision for partial denoising along the student trajectory. Beyond this, VA-TDM combines transition-aware online velocity learning and dual-form VAD supervision across intermediate student transitions. Extensive results show that VA-TDM is powerful for learning few-step generators, achieving state-of-the-art four-step performance in both text-to-image and text-to-video generation across various backbones and scaling effectively to 33B MiniMax-H3. In particular, our VA-TDM-H3 notably outperforms the few-step Fast-H3 and is closer to the original many-step H3 according to human preference.
