Beyond Infraction Scores: Failure-Boundary Profiles for Closed-Loop Evaluation of Driving and Robot Navigation Agents

Milan Bulat, Gino Ardelean, Ellington Kirby

原文摘要

Closed-loop driving benchmarks in CARLA rank agents by a driving score that multiplies route completion by an infraction penalty. This score does not distinguish an agent that stops in front of an obstacle from one that pushes past it. In a corridor closed by two parked cars, for example, one agent that drives through with contact averages 52.2 on the blocked widths, while the agents that stop average between 37.8 and 40.6. We propose failure-boundary profiles, an evaluation in which each scenario family varies one measured factor, such as corridor width or the time gap in oncoming traffic, and each variant is certified from measurement as one where the agent should proceed or one where it should stop. Along this axis we estimate two curves per agent, commitment (the probability of attempting the passage) and competence (the probability of passing without contact), and locate where each crosses one half, with intervals that account for the simulator's run-to-run variance. The certified labels also give a summary metric, decision accuracy, which credits clean passes on passable variants and stops on blocked ones. We evaluate seven driving agents on seven CARLA families. The rule-based expert reaches a decision accuracy of 0.74 and TFv6, the highest-scoring learned agent, 0.60. Agents with similar driving scores fail in different ways, and agents that reliably stop at a blocked corridor still rarely wait for a gap in oncoming traffic. We also apply the method, unchanged, to a warehouse robot in Isaac Sim. The navigation policy we test stops at blocked gaps in only one of three families, and two fine-tuned versions of it pass more gaps cleanly but no longer stop at all.

SO-101 Bench: Accessible Spatial Manipulation

Truman Hickok

原文摘要

Low-cost arms such as the SO-101 have become the most common entry point to robot learning, yet no released policy performs spatially constrained, language-conditioned tasks on them out of the box, and existing SO-101 benchmarks run only on physical hardware with simple tasks and few held-out objects. We introduce SO-101 Bench, a simulated benchmark for language-conditioned spatial manipulation built on an Isaac Lab digital twin of a real SO-101 setup. It has four tasks scored as five families, 138 objects in seen, unseen-instance and unseen-class splits, 916 evaluation episodes with subsets for held-out appearances, rotate-to-fit planning and occlusion memory, and 3,629 simulated demonstrations on which every learned policy is fine-tuned under an equal compute budget. The twin ranks policies as the real robot does: five policies trained without real data, four VLAs and an LLM agent, keep their exact ranking when the same weights run on the physical arm in an unseen environment with unseen objects (Spearman rho = 1.00, MMRV = 0.000), although simulation overestimates success. Across nine VLAs and world-action models, the best learned policies score near 61%, with spatial placement, unseen object classes and rotate-to-fit planning remaining open. An LLM agent that writes code and hands grasping to a learned policy scores 83.2%, and an ablation shows that this lead comes from the choice of harness and the choice of language model.

原文摘要

We introduce EgoHand, a monocular 3D hand reconstruction model that achieves state-of-the-art performance on egocentric video. Central to our approach is the curation of a high-quality training corpus of 14 million images, combining synthetic data, in-the-wild video, and multi-camera motion capture to balance scene diversity and supervision quality. The model adopts SOMA-Hand as its parametric representation and processes 2D hand crops with a transformer encoder, incorporating camera cues and an auxiliary 2D branch to improve geometric consistency and image alignment. Zero-shot evaluations on HOT3D, ARCTIC, and H2O demonstrate strong out-of-domain generalization, with lower joint-position, root-translation, and acceleration errors than competing baselines at an inference latency of approximately 9.01 ms. A blinded user preference study further shows that participants favor EgoHand's reconstructed hand poses over those from Apple EgoDex and Ropedia Xperience-10M. We release the EgoHand model and source code under the OpenMDW license, allowing free commercial use of the model.

VTC-AUDIT: An Interventional Reliability Audit for Visual-Token Compression under Paired Image Shifts

Isaac, Li

原文摘要

Visual-token compression is usually evaluated by clean accuracy and efficiency, but these averages do not reveal failures that compression introduces under an image shift where the uncompressed model stays correct. We introduce VTC-AUDIT, which estimates this incremental risk only on pairs where the full model is correct on both images and the compressed model is correct on the clean image. The four arms then cross two binary choices: which image selects the retained token positions, and which image supplies the visual features. We audit three open 8-9B vision-language models on four tasks and eight pre-specified shifts. We evaluate two training-free compressors---hard-pruning DivPrune and prune-and-merge ApET---at a matched 25% retained-position budget, producing 708,000 inference records. Reselecting positions on the shifted image, rather than reusing the clean-image positions, raises the failure rate in all six model-compressor settings. The increase is 3.04-9.60 percentage points for DivPrune and 2.05-4.20 percentage points for ApET, with every 95% interval above zero. Repeating the audit on a separately resampled second manifest reproduces all six increases. In a pooled monitor audit across the four benchmarks, support Jaccard instability fails the practical AUROC criterion of 0.65 in all six settings, whereas clean compressed-model uncertainty clears it. Thus, support turnover is a weak ranking signal under the audited benchmark mixture, while clean compressed-model uncertainty is substantially more informative. These results suggest that future visual-token compression evaluations should report conditional reliability alongside clean accuracy and efficiency.

原文摘要

Understanding charts requires models to jointly reason over geometric visual patterns, structured numerical data, and natural language -- a capability where current vision-language models (VLMs) remain limited. We introduce ChartNet, a high-quality, million-scale multimodal dataset designed to advance chart interpretation and reasoning. ChartNet leverages a novel code-guided synthesis pipeline to generate 1.5 million diverse chart samples spanning 24 chart types and 6 plotting libraries. Each sample consists of five aligned components: plotting code, rendered chart image, data table, natural language summary, and question-answering with reasoning, providing fine-grained cross-modal alignment. To capture the full spectrum of chart comprehension, ChartNet additionally includes specialized subsets encompassing human annotated data, real-world data, safety, and grounding. Moreover, a rigorous quality-filtering pipeline ensures visual fidelity, semantic accuracy, and diversity across chart representations. Fine-tuning on ChartNet consistently improves results across benchmarks, demonstrating its utility as large-scale supervision for multimodal models. As the largest open-source dataset of its kind, ChartNet aims to support the development of foundation models with robust and generalizable capabilities for data visualization understanding. The dataset is publicly available at https://huggingface.co/datasets/ibm-granite/ChartNet

RoboWheel: A Data Engine from Real-World Human Demonstrations for Cross-Embodiment Robotic Learning

Zhang, Yuhong, Gao, Zihan, Li, Shengpeng, Chen, Ling-Hao, Liu, Kaisheng, Cheng, Runqing, Lin, Xiao, Liu, Junjia 等 15 位作者

原文摘要

We introduce Robowheel, a data engine that converts human hand-object interaction (HOI) videos into training-ready supervision for cross-morphology robotic learning. From monocular RGB/RGB-D inputs, we perform high-precision HOI reconstruction and enforce physical plausibility via a reinforcement learning (RL) optimizer that refines hand-object relative poses under contact and penetration constraints. The reconstructed, contact-rich trajectories are then retargeted to cross-embodiments, robot arms with simple end-effectors, dexterous hands, and humanoids, yielding executable actions and rollouts. To scale coverage, we build a simulation-augmented framework on Isaac Sim with diverse domain randomization (embodiments, trajectories, object retrieval, background textures, hand motion mirroring), which enriches the distributions of trajectories and observations while preserving spatial relationships and physical plausibility. The entire data pipeline forms an end-to-end pipeline from video - reconstruction - retargeting - augmentation - data acquisition. We validate the data on mainstream vision-language-action (VLA) and imitation learning architectures, demonstrating that trajectories produced by our pipeline are as stable as those from teleoperation and yield comparable continual performance gains. To our knowledge, this provides the first quantitative evidence that HOI modalities can serve as effective supervision for robotic learning. Compared with teleoperation, Robowheel is lightweight: a single monocular RGB(D) camera is sufficient to extract a universal, embodiment-agnostic motion representation that could be flexibly retargeted across embodiments. We further assemble a large-scale multimodal dataset combining multi-camera captures, monocular videos, and public HOI corpora for training and evaluating embodied models.

PPISP: Physically-Plausible Compensation and Control of Photometric Variations in Radiance Field Reconstruction

Deutsch, Isaac, Moënne-Loccoz, Nicolas, State, Gavriel, Gojcic, Zan

原文摘要

Multi-view 3D reconstruction methods remain highly sensitive to photometric inconsistencies arising from camera optical characteristics and variations in image signal processing (ISP). Existing mitigation strategies such as per-frame latent variables or affine color corrections lack physical grounding and generalize poorly to novel views. We propose the Physically-Plausible ISP (PPISP) correction module, which disentangles camera-intrinsic and capture-dependent effects through physically based and interpretable transformations. A dedicated PPISP controller, trained on the input views, predicts ISP parameters for novel viewpoints, analogous to auto exposure and auto white balance in real cameras. This design enables realistic and fair evaluation on novel views without access to ground-truth images. PPISP achieves SotA performance on standard benchmarks, while providing intuitive control and supporting the integration of metadata when available. Building a Precise Video Language with Human-AI Oversight

原文摘要

Video-language models (VLMs) learn to reason about the dynamic visual world through natural language. We introduce a suite of open datasets, benchmarks, and recipes for scalable oversight that enable precise video captioning. First, we define a structured specification for describing subjects, scenes, motion, spatial, and camera dynamics, grounded by hundreds of carefully defined visual primitives developed with professional video creators such as filmmakers. Next, to curate high-quality captions, we introduce a critique-based human-AI (CHAI) oversight framework, where trained human experts provide correctional critiques to revise model-generated pre-captions into improved post-captions. This division of labor improves annotation accuracy and efficiency by offloading text generation to models, allowing humans to better focus on verification. Additionally, these critiques and preferences between pre- and post-captions provide rich supervision for improving open-source models (Qwen3-VL) on caption generation, reward modeling, and critique generation through SFT, DPO, and inference-time scaling. Our ablations show that critique quality in precision, recall, and constructiveness, ensured by our oversight framework, directly governs downstream performance. With modest expert supervision, the resulting model outperforms even closed-source models such as Gemini-3.1-Pro. Finally, we apply our approach to re-caption large-scale professional videos (e.g., films, commercials, games) and fine-tune video generation models such as Wan to better follow detailed prompts of up to 400 words, achieving finer control over cinematography including camera motion, angle, lens, focus, point of view, and framing. Overall, our results show that precise specification and human-AI oversight are key to achieving professional-level video understanding and generation.

Exemplar-Free Continual Learning for State Space Models

Lee, Isaac Ning, Mahmoodi, Leila, Le, Trung, Harandi, Mehrtash

原文摘要

State-Space Models (SSMs) excel at capturing long-range dependencies with structured recurrence, making them well-suited for sequence modeling. However, their evolving internal states pose unique challenges in Continual Learning (CL). Without access to the full distribution of previous tasks, updates to the state-space dynamics become unconstrained, leading to catastrophic forgetting. To address this, we propose Inf-SSM, a geometry-aware regularization framework for CL in SSMs. It constrains state evolution via the infinite-dimensional Grassmannian of SSM observability subspaces, without requiring any exemplars from past tasks. Unlike classical CL methods that restrict weight updates, Inf-SSM directly regularizes the infinite-horizon state evolution encoded by the extended observability subspace of the SSM. We show that enforcing this regularization requires solving a matrix equation known as the Sylvester equation, which typically incurs \mathcal O (n^3) complexity. Thus, we develop a \mathcal O (n^2) solution by exploiting the structure and properties of SSMs. This leads to an efficient regularization mechanism that can be seamlessly integrated into existing CL methods. Comprehensive experiments on challenging benchmarks of ImageNet-R, CIFAR-100, and Caltech-256 demonstrate a significant reduction in forgetting while improving accuracy across sequential tasks.

PRUE: A Practical Recipe for Field Boundary Segmentation at Scale

原文摘要

Large-scale maps of field boundaries are essential for agricultural monitoring tasks. Existing deep learning approaches for satellite-based field mapping are sensitive to illumination, spatial scale, and changes in geographic location. We conduct the first systematic evaluation of segmentation and geospatial foundation models (GFMs) for global field boundary delineation using the Fields of The World (FTW) benchmark. We evaluate 18 models under unified experimental settings, showing that a U-Net semantic segmentation model outperforms instance-based and GFM alternatives on a suite of performance and deployment metrics. We propose a new segmentation approach that combines a U-Net backbone, composite loss functions, and targeted data augmentations to enhance performance and robustness under real-world conditions. Our model achieves a 76% IoU and 47% object-F1 on FTW, an increase of 6% and 9% over the previous baseline. Our approach provides a practical framework for reliable, scalable, and reproducible field boundary delineation across model design, training, and inference. We release all models and model-derived field boundary datasets for five countries.
