We present PhysInsert, a framework for physically plausible reference-based object insertion that jointly adapts objects and their surrounding scenes. Existing methods often rely on masked inputs, generation-based pairs, or training pairs with limited viewpoint variation, leaving pose and illumination adaptation and bidirectional object-scene interactions insufficiently constrained. We construct the Insert World dataset with strictly aligned Blender-rendered counterfactual pairs and object references across viewpoints and lighting conditions. Building on these data, Geometry-Guided Adaptation couples a VGGT geometry stream with image and text streams under target-scene feature supervision to guide spatially consistent insertion. Complementary 2D Object-Scene Spatial Supervision jointly supervises object occupancy and environmental changes while grounding spatial instructions in object regions through image-text attention. We introduce PhysInsert-Bench with dedicated cross-environment and cross-view cases requiring illumination and pose adaptation beyond appearance copying. Experiments on PhysInsert-Bench and DreamBooth demonstrate improved image fidelity; a user study further shows more accurate placement and improved lighting integration, perspective, and pose plausibility.
Visual foundation models learn rich pathological morphology but lack explicit concept-level supervision. Vision--language pretraining can provide this supervision but requires costly image--text pairs. Here, we introduce GloSAGE, a semantic self-distillation framework that uses lesion profiles predicted by a pretrained visual teacher to construct structured pathology descriptions. Reliability-guided selection identifies image--text anchors, while Knowledge-Structured Pathology Text Synthesis and Evidence-Guided Negative-pair Construction account for partially observed lesions. Image--text alignment trains projection layers while retaining the frozen visual encoder; an intermediate Semantic Transfer Layer supplies features for downstream tasks. Developed on GloMillion and evaluated across seven glomerulus- and case-level cohorts, GloSAGE supported zero-shot lesion recognition, image--text retrieval, hard-negative discrimination and concept-intervention analyses. It outperformed its source visual model in most lesion-recognition tasks and improved lesion grading, while supporting competitive case-level disease classification, injury grading and baseline renal function estimation. Ablations supported the combined contributions of knowledge-structured text and evidence-guided negatives, and the intermediate transfer layer improved mean lesion-recognition ROC-AUC relative to the complete projection output. A frozen language model conditioned on GloSAGE features generated glomerular descriptions. These findings suggest that teacher-derived lesion profiles can provide annotation-efficient semantic supervision for extending a glomerular visual foundation model.
Robot tasks require grounding spatial language in physical scenes, but task success alone cannot establish whether spatial instructions are followed. We present BEHAVIOR-Spatial, a benchmark built on BEHAVIOR-1K that measures spatial question answering, point-based target grounding, and robot action to examine how VLM spatial understanding relates to VLA behavior. It comprises 3,256 spatial questions across 49 activities, 1,240 grounding queries across 14 manipulation tasks, and action evaluations covering those 14 tasks and 10 navigation tasks. Our manipulation protocol evaluates held-out configurations and instruction following when the requested target changes within a fixed training layout. The baseline achieves 41.6% on held-out configurations but only 16.1% under changed instructions. VLM adaptation and robot-data pretraining provide limited improvements, whereas oracle visual target cues raise these rates to 60.3% and 38.0%, respectively. Perception evaluations reveal policy-dependent correlations between VLM question-answering and grounding accuracy and VLA manipulation performance. Together, these findings motivate evaluating spatial instruction following alongside task completion and examining when spatial perception performance translates into robot behavior.
