A fully articulated humanoid dexterous hand with human-level joint structure enabled by linkage-based actuation

原文摘要

Humanoid dexterous hands are a core component of embodied intelligence, enabling robots to translate high-level intent into rich and adaptive physical interaction. However, existing designs remain constrained by a persistent trade-off among anthropomorphic kinematic complexity, mechanical robustness, load capacity and control simplicity, limiting dexterous manipulation in unstructured environments. Here we present Torch-Hand, a fully articulated humanoid dexterous hand that replicates the joint structure and motion hierarchy of the human hand with 21 degrees of freedom (DOF), comprising a highly articulated five-DOF thumb and four DOF in each of the remaining fingers. The differentiated thumb integrates multi-axis CMC motion to provide broad opposition and flexible contact orientation relative to the four fingers. Unlike tendon-driven or hybrid actuation approaches, Torch-Hand adopts an entirely linkage-based transmission architecture. By integrating screw-linkage actuation, the hand achieves high grasping force and substantial payload capacity while maintaining a compact anthropomorphic form. Its actuation architecture is optimized for control tractability, with all actuators integrated within the palm and arranged in a serial-robot-like configuration that establishes a direct correspondence between motor motion and joint kinematics. This architecture mechanically decouples functional DOF to reduce unintended inter-joint motion propagation, while allowing independently addressable DOF to be actively coordinated into coupled multi-joint motion patterns during complex manipulation. Comprehensive experiments assess reachable workspace, coordinated fingertip trajectories, thumb opposition, 33-grasp taxonomy coverage, grasping force, payload capacity and task-level manipulation. These results establish Torch-Hand as a robust hardware foundation for dexterous embodied manipulation.

原文摘要

Despite the success of vision-based generalist robotic policies, existing tactile-based policies remain tied to fixed embodiments and sensor setups. This is because tactile signals are highly heterogeneous across hardware, making cross-sensor generalization difficult. We present FTP-1,the first generalist foundation tactile policy pretrained to acquire transferable tactile manipulation abilities across diverse sensors and embodiments. FTP-1 supports varied tactile inputs, including image-, array-, and state-based signals, by using heterogeneous encoders to project them into unified morphology-aware latent tokens that are jointly modeled by a shared tactile Transformer expert. Pretrained on around 3,000 hours of tactile manipulation data aggregated from 26 data sources, spanning human and robot demonstrations across 21 sensors, FTP-1 learns tactile skills that transfer beyond the sensors seen during pretraining. Across downstream finetuning experiments spanning 5 hardware configurations, FTP-1 improves contact-rich manipulation on seen sensor setups by +17.2% and, surprisingly, transfers to two previously unseen tactile-sensor setups, achieving a +31% gain in success rate. FTP-1 establishes the first unified foundation baseline for tactile manipulation, providing future tactile policies with a shared model-level starting point. Making Self-Driving Laboratories Auditable:A Unified Framework for Hybrid Actions,Measurements, and Safe Execution

Zihan Zhang, Zeyu Wu, Xin Zhang, Mingyu Luo, Haohui Que, Tong Zhu

原文摘要

Self-driving laboratories (SDLs) are laboratory systems that couple experimental planning, automated execution, and measurement feedback in a closed loop. Integrating flexible robot control with the typed application programming interfaces (APIs) and continuous measurements exposed by laboratory instruments remains an execution-interface challenge. To address this challenge, we propose a traceable framework comprising four components: LAM (Lab Action Model), OpenSDL, Safe-SDL, and L3-Bench. LAM is a proposed measurement-conditioned policy architecture that extends vision-language-action paradigms to generate both continuous robot trajectories and typed instrument API calls. OpenSDL is an execution substrate with an initial control implementation, designed to map role-level operations to heterogeneous devices, coordinate execution, and record timestamped causal events. The proposed Safe-SDL runtime gate combines pre-dispatch schema and resource checks with signal temporal logic monitoring during execution, including extended waiting periods. L3-Bench (Level-3 Laboratory Benchmark) specifies an episode-level evaluation protocol covering physical outcomes, timing, reproducibility, safety violations, and fault recovery. Together, these components provide an end-to-end design for linking hybrid action generation, monitored device execution, measurement feedback, and experimental evaluation, addressing coordination and traceability challenges in SDL workflows.

Learning Side-by-Side Navigation for Personal Mobility Vehicles from Human Drivers

Luis Yoichi Morales, Florent Ferreri

原文摘要

This paper presents an approach to achieve side-by-side autonomous motion with a pair of personal mobility vehicles (PMVs). Given a global path, two PMVs plan cooperatively so as to hold a social formation that lets the passengers hold a conversation, while keeping the ride safe and smooth. Each vehicle runs its own sampling-based model-predictive planner; the planners exchange nothing but the odometry each vehicle could observe of the other, and the joint decision is expressed as a pair of utility matrices over pairs of candidate trajectories, resolved by a common rule. The behavioural parameters are fitted by inverse reinforcement learning from 409 minutes of driving by ten pairs of people in human-driven PMVs in an indoor environment, and the lanes the pair can use are derived offline from the corridor itself rather than fixed by hand. A safety layer the cost cannot override executes a move only if the vehicle can still brake clear, measured from its whole body, and a vehicle that is stuck reverses along its own path and continues. In closed-loop simulation over 24 runs in the conditions the drivers were recorded in and 24 in four generated obstacle layouts, no vehicle entered a wall or a cone. The pair holds conversational formation for 60.5 and 68.9 percent of the time among obstacles (anticlockwise and clockwise) and 81.2 and 91.5 percent in a clear aisle, against the drivers' 34.0 and 36.0 percent, and 52.9 and 56.0 percent, and it matches their speed. It keeps one lateral formation where the drivers alternated between a close diagonal and a wide abreast one, and it varies far less. Experimental results are based on a differential drive kinematic simulator running on ROS 2.

On Shaky Ground: Characterising Non-Rigid Base Effects in Mobile Manipulation

Zongyuan Zhang, Christopher Lehnert, Will N. Browne, Jonathan M. Roberts

原文摘要

Mobile robot manipulators extend contact-task capability beyond the workspace of fixed robot installations, but their bases must also sustain the forces generated by the task. On lightweight platforms, base motion and support compliance can change the force and motion realised at the workpiece. How these non-rigid base effects manifest during sustained contact remains insufficiently characterised. This paper investigates non-rigid base effects in mobile robot manipulators through a sanding case study combining exploratory simulation with experiments on two lightweight, unactuated wheeled testbeds. Joint measurements of contact force, tool motion, and base vibration show that sustained contact coexisted with substantial task error: under low base-ground resistance, only 54-70% of a 100 N command was realised, with tool-centre-point errors reaching 100 mm. Increasing base-ground resistance during contact improved force realisation and arrested further tool displacement, while base vibration did not vary consistently with force-tracking error in the tested conditions. These observations illustrate how non-rigid base behaviour can affect contact-task execution and highlight the value of examining force, motion, and vibration together when characterising lightweight mobile manipulation.

TOPS: Reshaping Flow Source and Transport for Multi-Task Robot Manipulation

Tuo An, Chuhao Zhou, Jiahua Dong, Jingliang Li, Jiaqi Bai, Jindou Jia, Jianfei Yang

原文摘要

Flow-based policies for language-conditioned multi-task manipulation commonly share a single $\textit{Gaussian}$ source prior and a common linear transport path across tasks. However, reliably executing multiple tasks with distinct motion requirements remains challenging for a shared policy. We introduce $\textbf{TOPS}$ ($\textbf{T}$ask-$\textbf{O}$riented $\textbf{P}$riors and $\textbf{S}$chedules), which adapts the flow source prior and interpolation schedule to each task without modifying the network architecture. TOPS first constructs multimodal task sources from reverse-mapped expert action sequences, allowing language instructions to select where generation begins. Guided by source-target covariance mismatch, it then slows the transition toward expert actions early in denoising and accelerates it later along directions requiring expansion. Under a $\textit{Gaussian}$ endpoint model, our analysis shows that this schedule adjustment can lower an upper bound on velocity-prediction risk. Experiments on LIBERO, LIBERO-Plus, and CALVIN demonstrate improved performance across in-distribution, perturbation and cross-environment settings, alongside better data efficiency. Using one integration step, TOPS raises LIBERO-10 success from $53.44\%$ to $69.67\%$ compared with ten-step Standard Flow Matching (FM), while reducing inference time to approximately one-sixth of the baseline. TOPS also yields consistent gains when transferred to the large-scale flow-based $π_{0.5}$ policy across all four evaluated settings. Real-world experiments further demonstrate improved task success, including an increase from $20\%$ with standard FM to $80\%$ with TOPS on the upper-drawer opening task.

S3KF: Spherical State-Space Kalman Filtering for Panoramic 3D Multi-Object Tracking

原文摘要

Panoramic multi-object tracking is important for industrial safety monitoring, wide-area robotic perception, and infrastructure-light deployment in large workspaces. In these settings, the sensing system must provide full-surround coverage, metric geometric cues, and stable target association under wide field-of-view distortion and occlusion. Existing image-plane trackers are tightly coupled to the camera projection and become unreliable in panoramic imagery, while conventional Euclidean 3D formulations introduce redundant directional parameters and do not naturally unify angular, scale, and depth estimation. In this paper, we present $\mathbf{S^3KF}$, a panoramic 3D multi-object tracking framework built on a motorized rotating LiDAR and a quad-fisheye camera rig. The key idea is a geometry-consistent state representation on the unit sphere $\mathbb{S}^2$, where object bearing is modeled by a two-degree-of-freedom tangent-plane parameterization and jointly estimated with box scale and depth dynamics. Based on this state, we derive an extended spherical Kalman filtering pipeline that fuses panoramic camera detections with LiDAR depth observations for multimodal tracking. We further establish a map-based ground-truth generation pipeline using wearable localization devices registered to a shared global LiDAR map, enabling quantitative evaluation without motion-capture infrastructure. Experiments on self-collected real-world sequences show decimeter-level planar tracking accuracy, improved identity continuity over a 2D panoramic baseline in dynamic scenes, and real-time onboard operation on a Jetson AGX Orin platform. These results indicate that the proposed framework is a practical solution for panoramic perception and industrial-scale multi-object tracking. The project page can be found at https://kafeiyin00.github.io/S3KF/.

RoboSTD: Zero-Shot Single-to-Dual Transfer via Sagittal Mirroring for Bimanual Learning

Hongyu Wu, Chong Liu, Shaoxuan Xie, Shaqi Luo, Hanyu Feng, Shihan Wu, Guocai Yao

原文摘要

Bimanual robot manipulation plays an important role in real-world robotic applications, but the high cost of collecting bimanual demonstrations limits the scalable development of bimanual policy learning. Meanwhile, existing single-arm manipulation data are difficult to directly transfer to bimanual systems due to the Single-to-Dual gap in action spaces, coordination requirements, and arm-side spatial preference. To address this issue, we propose RoboSTD, a zero-shot Single-to-Dual data construction method for bimanual robot learning. RoboSTD first applies sagittal-plane mirroring to observations, proprioception, and actions to construct executable contralateral pseudo-demonstrations. It then uses an LLM to generate structured spatio-temporal coordination constraints that guide the reconstruction of pseudo-bimanual supervision across workspace regions and task stages. We evaluate RoboSTD on the AgileX ALOHA platform in both RoboTwin simulation and real-world settings. Experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of RoboSTD for bimanual policy learning. Without requiring additional bimanual demonstrations, RoboSTD increases the average number of collected cups to 2.11x that of the single-arm baseline in the cup collection task. RPT*: Global Planning with Probabilistic Terminals for Target Search in Complex Environments

Yunpeng Lyu, Chao Cao, Ji Zhang, Howie Choset, Zhongqiang Ren

原文摘要

Routing problems such as Hamiltonian Path Problem (HPP), seek a path to visit all the vertices in a graph while minimizing the path cost. This paper studies a variant, HPP with Probabilistic Terminals (HPP-PT), where each vertex has a probability representing the likelihood that the robot's path terminates there, and the objective is to minimize the expected path cost. HPP-PT arises in target object search, where a mobile robot must visit all candidate locations to find an object, and prior knowledge of the object's location is expressed as vertex probabilities. While routing problems have been studied for decades, few of them consider uncertainty as required in this work. The challenge lies not only in optimality ordering the vertices, as in standard HPP, but also in handling history dependency: the expected path cost depends on the order in which vertices were previously visited. This makes many existing methods inefficient or inapplicable. To address the challenge, we propose a search-based approach RPT* with solution optimality guarantees, which leverages dynamic programming in a new state space to bypass the history dependency and novel heuristics to speed up the computation. Building on RPT*, we design a Hierarchical Autonomous Target Search (HATS) system that combines RPT* with either Bayesian filtering for lifelong target search with noisy sensors, or autonomous exploration to find targets in unknown environments. Experiments in both simulation and real robot show that our approach can naturally balance between exploitation and exploration, thereby finding targets more quickly on average than baseline methods.

SWIM: Learning What Matters from Behaviors for JEPA World Models

Jiaming Hu, Shi Bo, Yan Zheng, Tian Wang, Florian Dubost, Alejandro Mottini, Junze Liu, Arvind Srinivasan 等 14 位作者

原文摘要

Joint-embedding predictive architectures (JEPAs) enable world models to plan from images by predicting future embeddings. However, their visual prediction objectives do not explicitly incorporate task-relevant state information, so the physical state that determines task progress may not be reliably captured in the latent space. Supervising world models with simulator state can make planning more informative, but it requires deciding which state features matter. Features are typically selected by hand or weighted uniformly, and a uniform weighting gives every standardized state feature equal influence, so redundant coordinates can overcount the same variation, while irrelevant ones can obscure task-relevant differences. To address this limitation, we propose SWIM (State Weighting with Inverse-Dynamics Model), which learns state weights from offline trajectories by predicting recorded actions from current states and observed future displacements. The learned weights quantify each feature's contribution to action prediction and define a weighted state metric for state-supervised training, which we demonstrate by aligning latent and state distances. The inverse-dynamics model is used only during training, so the resulting world model plans from images with no additional planning-time computation. Across five simulated robotic manipulation tasks, SWIM consistently improves planning success over uniform state weighting.

Polarity--Time Interaction and Multi-Level Reliability for Event-Based Spacecraft Pose Estimation

Yonglong Zhang, Zongwu Xie, Yang Liu

原文摘要

Sparse event responses produce uneven keypoint errors whose effects on spacecraft pose depend on correspondence geometry and the reliability of successive observations. We present a reliability-aware framework connecting polarity--time localization, geometric recovery, event--CAD refinement, and trajectory optimization. A three-branch representation combines positive events, negative events, and recent-event timing through cross-branch attention and gating, followed by spatiotemporal aggregation. An ordered semantic-point head estimates relative correspondence precision for geometrically constrained pose recovery. Event-edge and CAD-projection agreement then guide local pose refinement under keypoint-geometry safeguards. At the sequence level, a ten-dimensional descriptor combines heatmap shape, reprojection consistency, and geometric conditioning to set time-aligned observation scales. On the official SPADES challenge test set, the complete system achieves a combined pose score of 0.0474, approximately 5.4\% below PASAN+IRIS. Validation ablations reduce the score from 0.0772 for base localization with uniform PnP to 0.0514 for the complete cascade; on identical single-frame observations, quality weighting reduces the score from 0.0549 with constant-weight optimization to 0.0514.

Goal2Pixel: Grounding Goals to Pixels for Vision-Language Navigation

Muyi Bao, Yuxin Cai, Hang Xu, Zongtai Li, Jinxi He, Jingfan Tang, Chen Lv, Ji Zhang 等 10 位作者

原文摘要

Vision-language models (VLMs) have become a common foundation for vision-and-language navigation in continuous environments (VLN-CE). Yet most VLM-based methods cast navigation as low-level action prediction, an interface that is ambiguous, tied to short-horizon motion primitives, and inefficient due to repeated VLM querying. We propose Goal2Pixel, a pure pixel-based paradigm that reformulates VLN-CE as navigable pixel grounding. Rather than predicting actions, Goal2Pixel uses the image plane as a unified spatial interface between VLM reasoning and robot motion: the model predicts a visible navigable pixel, which is back-projected into a 3D waypoint for forward navigation. Non-forward actions are encoded by auxiliary left/right/bottom regions for turning and stopping. To support long-horizon navigation, we propose ViKeyMem, a visibility-aware keyframe memory, achieving a favorable performance-efficiency trade-off while reducing training cost by over 50%. To adapt pretrained VLMs to navigable pixel grounding, we introduce semantic embeddings and coordinate-aware auxiliary losses. Among methods trained without external data, Goal2Pixel achieves competitive state-of-the-art performance on R2R-CE and RxR-CE. On R2R-CE Val-Unseen, it achieves 54.1% SR and 52.5% SPL with only 7.75 VLM calls per episode. Compared with direct action prediction, Goal2Pixel improves SR by 21.2 percentage points while requiring 6 times fewer VLM calls. Project Page: https://baobao0926.github.io/Goal2Pixel/.

Camera-to-Quadruped Robot Pose Estimation from Sequential Images

Seobin Hwang, Ji-Seong Beom, Yeong-Jun Cho

原文摘要

Quadruped robots are increasingly deployed in hazardous environments such as disaster response and facility inspection, where external-camera monitoring is essential for safe operation. This setting is challenging because quadrupeds are articulated systems with time-varying leg joints, leg symmetry, and frequent self-occlusions, which make keypoint correspondence ambiguous. Moreover, no public benchmark exists, making quantitative comparison difficult. To address these challenges, we propose QuadPose, which estimates the full-body 18-DoF pose (6-DoF base pose + 12-DoF joint angles) from monocular video sequences, and introduce QuadSyn, the first camera-to-quadruped robot pose benchmark. On QuadSyn, QuadPose achieves 92.18% PCK@2.5px, 95.54% PCK-AUC, 85.94% ADD@20cm, 66.98% ADD-AUC, and 3.65 degree mean joint-angle error at approximately 33 FPS.

原文摘要

Handheld data-collection interfaces such as the Universal Manipulation Interface (UMI) allow manipulation demonstrations to be gathered in the wild without a robot in the loop, but the quality of the resulting action labels is bounded by the accuracy of vision-based localization. Existing systems recover end-effector pose from monocular visual-inertial odometry, which is subject to scale ambiguity and drift, or delegate tracking to closed-source modules and external infrastructure that reintroduce cost and setup burden. We present OpenJaws, a fully open hardware and software framework for sensorized UMI that improves localization and simplifies deployment across robot platforms. OpenJaws pairs a modular, 3D-printed gripper exposing a standardized ISO adapter with a low-cost stereo camera to recover metric camera trajectories. We further introduce UMI-Loc-Bench-v1, a benchmark quantifying real-world localization accuracy for handheld data-collection devices, and show that stereo localization substantially outperforms monocular alternatives. Finally, we demonstrate that policies trained on data collected with OpenJaws can be deployed on a real robot across multiple tasks. Hardware, software, and data are released under a commercially permissive license. Code, data, and videos are available at https://open-jaws.github.io/

Learning to Feel the Future: DreamTacVLA for Contact-Rich Manipulation

Guo Ye, Zexi Zhang, Xu Zhao, Shang Wu, Haoran Lu, Shihan Lu, Han Liu

原文摘要

Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models have shown remarkable generalization by mapping web-scale knowledge to robotic control, yet they remain blind to physical contact. Consequently, they struggle with contact-rich manipulation tasks that require reasoning about force, texture, and slip. While some approaches incorporate low-dimensional tactile signals, they fail to capture the high-resolution dynamics essential for such interactions. To address this limitation, we introduce DreamTacVLA, a framework that grounds VLA models in contact physics by learning to feel the future. Our model adopts a hierarchical perception scheme in which high-resolution tactile images serve as micro-vision inputs coupled with wrist-camera local vision and third-person macro vision. To reconcile these multi-scale sensory streams, we first train a unified policy with a Hierarchical Spatial Alignment (HSA) loss that aligns tactile tokens with their spatial counterparts in the wrist and third-person views. To further deepen the model's understanding of fine-grained contact dynamics, we finetune the system with a tactile world model that predicts future tactile signals. To mitigate tactile data scarcity and the wear-prone nature of tactile sensors, we construct a hybrid large-scale dataset sourced from both high-fidelity digital twin and real-world experiments. By anticipating upcoming tactile states, DreamTacVLA acquires a rich model of contact physics and conditions its actions on both real observations and imagined consequences. Across contact-rich manipulation tasks, it outperforms state-of-the-art VLA baselines, achieving up to 95% success, highlighting the importance of understanding physical contact for robust, touch-aware robotic agents.

FAWAM: Force-Aware World Action Models for Closed-Loop Contact-Rich Manipulation

Haotian He, Zeyu Yan, Qipeng Liu, Ning Guo, Wenzhao Lian

原文摘要

Force signals provide critical interaction cues for contact-rich robotic manipulation. However, existing methods mostly use force as an additional observation modality, without fully exploiting its role in modeling future interaction dynamics or guiding execution-time feedback correction. In this paper, we propose FAWAM, a force-aware world action model that incorporates force information at three levels: perception, prediction, and closed-loop execution. FAWAM first encodes historical 6-axis force/torque signals to modulate action generation, then jointly predicts future actions and end-effector wrenches to explicitly model contact evolution. It further introduces a residual correction module that uses the predicted wrench trajectory as an execution-time reference to refine actions online based on real-time force feedback. Real-world experiments across multiple contact-rich tasks show that FAWAM improves the average success rate by 36.25% over vision-only baselines and 21.25% over existing force-aware baselines, demonstrating the effectiveness of our force-aware framework for robust contact-rich manipulation.

REACH: An RL-based Hierarchical Humanoid Crawling Framework for Adaptable Confined Space Traversal

Shengzhang Xu, Yuning Guo, Weiyi Hu, Yifeng Xu, Zhongyu Li, He Kong

原文摘要

Humanoid locomotion in confined spaces requires continuous height adaptation across multiple locomotion modes, yet most existing approaches remain limited to height-adjustable bipedal walking. We present REACH, an RL-based hierarchical framework that enables a Unitree G1 humanoid to traverse height-constrained environments through variable-height bipedal walking and crawling. The learned policies regulate body height over complementary command ranges of 1.27--0.50m in bipedal locomotion and 0.50--0.20m in crawling, extending traversal beyond the clearance limits of crouched walking. To address contact-rich crawling dynamics, we employ a history-conditioned latent representation that captures terrain and interaction context from proprioceptive observations. A bidirectional transition policy further connects crouched bipedal locomotion and crawling across large kinematic and contact discontinuities. These skills are integrated with a LiDAR-based planner that converts point clouds into collision-free three-dimensional paths and locomotion commands, including proactive height targets. Real-world experiments demonstrate accurate height and velocity tracking, robust terrain traversal, reliable mode transitions and confined-space traversal with the proposed pipeline. CARD: Contact-Anchored Retargeting for Dexterous Manipulation

原文摘要

Humans are dexterous, but traditional data collection paradigms such as teleoperation, kinesthetic teaching, and wearable exoskeletons force humans to act through the robot embodiment, bottlenecking their dexterity. Retargeting can avoid this. However, existing methods purely translate kinematics and ignore the real-world contact dynamics essential for task success. We present CARD: Contact-Anchored Retargeting for Dexterous Manipulation, a simulator and object-free framework that retargets human demonstrations to robot actions by explicitly preserving contact force targets. CARD unifies human data sources including video, motion capture, and tactile gloves via a shared hand--contact representation and generates explicit contact force targets in addition to kinematics. To maintain these contact targets during hardware open-loop replay, CARD also introduces a tactile tracking controller. For video which does not contain an explicit tactile source, we present Vid-HACO, our video-to-contact model that sets a new state of the art. Across our video, glove, motion-capture data and the GRAB dataset, CARD maintains contact on $43$--$78\%$ of contact frames, while kinematic and object-aware retargeting methods maintain contact on $<10\%$ and $22.5\%$ of the frames respectively. Further, integrating our formulation into physics-based retargeting improves strict task success from 12\% to 32\% on GRAB dataset. Finally, we show that our tactile tracker is critical to reproduce demonstrated forces during hardware replay. These results establish that contact preservation via CARD is a scalable interface for transferring human dexterity to robots.

A Trainable CPG Framework for Quadruped Locomotion

Xiyan Liu, Yide Liu, Guoyong Mao, Shaoxing Qu

原文摘要

We present CPG-ENN, a trainable quadruped locomotion framework that combines explicit neural coordination with learned motion realization. A symmetry-based eight-neuron central pattern generator (CPG) supplies gait rhythms, while a pretrained, leg-shared execution neural network (ENN) maps rhythmic signals and trajectory parameters to joint-angle references without online inverse kinematics. A single feedback policy modulates six physically interpretable trajectory variables. The controller tracks planar velocity and yaw-rate commands across walk, trot, pace, bound, and pronk without gait-specific learned controllers or transitionspecific rewards. Simulation yields 99.39% transition success across all 20 directed gait pairs and all source-target speed combinations from {0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0} m/s. Ablations show high cross-gait transition feasibility without transition exposure; exposure mainly refines gait acquisition and velocity transients. Comparisons with AllGaits and Walk These Ways demonstrate accurate gait-speed regulation, and Unitree Go2 experiments validate five gaits and their transitions.

原文摘要

Differences in musculoskeletal morphology challenge policy reuse across individual models. Here we present MyoAcross, a framework that combines individual musculoskeletal model construction, morphology-conditioned policy learning and virtual model augmentation to enable muscle-driven reference-motion tracking without individual fine-tuning. Across 31 held-out individual models, MyoAcross achieves 99.24% completion and reduces tracking error by 22.60% relative to an unconditioned multilayer perceptron. Policy reuse extends to models of 22 held-out individuals constructed from single-image shape estimates, measured height and body mass, and, with asymmetry augmentation, to models with unilateral lower-limb shortening. Comparisons with measurements from 120 additional individuals show agreement in vertical ground reaction force waveforms and channel-dependent agreement between simulated muscle activations and electromyography. These results establish a common control framework for comparative simulations of movement across individual musculoskeletal models.

RoboAuto: Autonomous Robot Program Search through Multi-Level Physical Understanding

原文摘要

Recently, LLM-based autonomous agents have shown strong capabilities in iteratively generating, evaluating, and refining executable solutions. In robotic manipulation, Code-as-Policy lets these agents search over modular and editable robot programs. However, effective program search requires physical understanding: agents must understand how objects can be manipulated, how scene geometry constrains actions, and why interactions succeed or fail. Existing methods rely mainly on execution feedback for program refinement, often leaving these physical questions unresolved. We introduce RoboAuto, a framework for robot program search that explicitly organizes physical understanding at the object, scene, and interaction levels through three components. First, a hierarchical knowledge base combines executable skills with object-centric knowledge of affordances, spatial relations, and action effects, learned from embodied data and online task solving. Second, scene grounding connects this knowledge to the current environment by identifying relevant objects and resolving action-critical quantities. Third, multi-stage planning with self-designed experiments checks whether each stage produces its expected physical effects and actively tests competing hypotheses to resolve physical uncertainties. RoboAuto achieves superior performance across five benchmark families, attaining an 89.1% success rate on short-horizon LIBERO-PRO tasks and more than twice the mean success rate of ASPIRE on LIBERO-PRO Long and LIBERO-Plus. It also outperforms ASPIRE and $π_{0.5}$ on three challenging long-horizon real-robot tasks requiring precise manipulation. We further show that the knowledge base transfers across simulators and embodiments, and that program search performance scales with its size. Project page: https://roboauto-ai.github.io/

原文摘要

Electric vehicles (EV) create an urgent need for scalable battery recycling, yet disassembly of EV battery packs remains largely manual due to high design variability. We present our Robotic Agentic Platform for Intelligent Disassembly (RAPID), designed to investigate perception-driven manipulation, flexible automation, and AI-assisted robot programming in realistic recycling scenarios. The system integrates a gantry-mounted industrial manipulator, RGB-D perception, and an automated nut-running tool for fastener removal on a full-scale EV battery pack. An open-vocabulary object detection pipeline achieves 0.9757 mAP50, enabling reliable identification of screws, nuts, busbars, and other components. We experimentally evaluate (n=204) three one-shot fastener removal strategies: taught-in poses (97% success rate, 24 min duration), one-shot vision execution (57%, 29 min), and visual servoing (83%, 36 min), comparing success rate and disassembly time for the battery's top cover fasteners. To support flexible interaction, we introduce agentic AI specifications for robotic disassembly tasks, allowing LLM agents to translate high-level instructions into robot actions through structured tool interfaces and ROS services. We evaluate SmolAgents with GPT-4o-mini and Qwen 3.5 9B/4B on edge hardware. Tool-based interfaces achieve 100% task completion, while automatic ROS service discovery shows 43.3% failure rates, highlighting the need for structured robot APIs for reliable LLM-driven control. This open-source platform enables systematic investigation of human-robot collaboration, agentic robot programming, and increasingly autonomous disassembly workflows, providing a practical foundation for research toward scalable robotic battery recycling.

GRAFT: Geometry-Aware Residual Adaptation for Foundation Trackers

原文摘要

Humanoid behavior foundation models (BFMs) provide reusable whole-body motion priors: given a kinematic reference, they generate coordinated joint commands for motion replay, teleoperation, and VLA control. However, trained primarily on flat-ground motion, BFMs lack an explicit mechanism to adapt foot placement, swing clearance, and contact timing to local terrain. Many terrain-aware BFM approaches address this limitation by retraining or fine-tuning the tracker together with perception, incurring substantial data and computation costs while coupling ordinary tracking to the perception pathway. To bridge this gap, we propose GRAFT, a geometry-aware residual adaptation framework for frozen behavior trackers. GRAFT preserves the BFM parameters and motion-reference interface, while a lightweight adapter adds terrain-conditioned corrections only to lower-body execution targets. The adapter is trained with task and foot-geometry rewards, regularized to suppress unnecessary corrections on flat ground, and distilled from privileged terrain observations to onboard depth. Because the frozen BFM already provides whole-body reference tracking and nominal locomotion, GRAFT reduces terrain learning to a focused execution-adaptation problem. We instantiate the framework on four frozen trackers and evaluate stairs, gaps, and platforms in simulation. We further validate it through real-world deployment on a Unitree G1, where the adapted SONIC tracker traverses terrain with onboard depth and unmodified references.

When Do Discrete Actions Make Good Continuous Controllers?

原文摘要

Though modern AI models like LLMs predict discrete tokens, today's robotic foundation models represent actions as continuous vectors. In this paper, we challenge this common consensus by asking if continuous action parametrizations are superior to their discrete counterparts. We conduct an extensive comparison of single-step regression and multi-step flow variants of both continuous and discrete policies in both from-scratch single-task and multi-task VLA training, in both simulation and on real hardware. In all regimes, we find that discrete action prediction, even the most naive, uniform-bin quantization, can match or even outperform continuous-action policies in task success rate. Moreover, we find that the challenge to discrete action policies is not action precision, but rather factorization error introduced by product-distribution predictions across time and action dimensions. We show that, when paired with the correct interventions (iterative computation through discrete flows, or distribution sharpening through classifier-free guidance), discrete flow policies can turn this weakness into a strength, enabling more responsive action changes during a predicted action chunk. Lastly, we show that attempts to explicitly inject geometric information into discrete policies, e.g. through corruption processes that emulate continuous flow matching, do not yield consistent improvements. Taken together, our findings question existing assumptions that robotic action prediction requires distinct design decisions compared to other AI domains, and motivate the possibility of discrete action prediction as a compelling alternative to today's continuous action parametrizations. AWARE: Action-Entropy-Weighted and Attention-Guided Retrieval of Observation Evidence for Vision-Language-Action Models

原文摘要

Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models combine multimodal perception with robotic control, demonstrating remarkable potential for generalizable manipulation. Yet, enhancing their execution typically relies on auxiliary sensory inputs (e.g., depth, 3D point clouds) or costly fine-tuning. Inspired by the insight that Feed-Forward Networks (FFNs) act as key-value memory, we propose Action-Entropy-Weighted and Attention-Guided Retrieval of Observation Evidence (AWARE), an effective, training-free, and plug-and-play module for VLAs. Specifically, AWARE tracks layer-wise uncertainty via an element-wise Action Entropy metric, and retrieves observation evidence into the element's FFN through associative memory lookup. Crucially, the retrieved features are weighted by instruction-guided cross-modal attention to isolate task-relevant observation cues, while injection strength is adaptively scaled by the element's entropy and relative network depth. This selectively channels observation evidence to high-entropy action dimensions and deep layers where grounding decays, while leaving converged representations intact. Across LIBERO, SIMPLER, CALVIN, and real-world robot manipulation, AWARE consistently improves diverse VLA architectures with minimal computational overhead, achieving the largest gains on long-horizon tasks without architectural changes or additional training. Towards Accurate End-Effector Localization for UMI-Style Robotic Manipulation Teaching

原文摘要

Robot demonstration learning requires accurate and temporally complete end-effector localization during close-range manipulation and camera occlusion. Existing SLAM benchmarks emphasize navigation motions, whereas manipulation datasets prioritize policy learning over localization evaluation. We introduce MILD, a Manipulation-Interface Localization Dataset with real-world and simulation sequences. The real-world subset provides 86 sensor sequences from Insta360 X5 and Insight9 across 15 repeated tabletop tasks, calibration assets, and a per-execution robot end-effector reference trajectory. The simulation subset, MILD-Sim, extends task coverage in Isaac Sim for controlled manipulation-replay studies. Benchmarking visual-inertial and fiducial-aided systems on instrumented real-world recordings reveals large differences in both TCP-relative trajectory error and temporal coverage, even under the same nominal task. To support marker-augmented teaching workspaces without a pre-surveyed fiducial map, we present AprilVINS, which combines fisheye visual-inertial estimation with sequence-local AprilTag geometry and separates prior admission from guarded export of the jointly optimized state. On Insta360 AprilTag4 recordings, AprilVINS(full) under a unified protocol with sequence-specific profiles reaches millimeter-level SE(3)-aligned TCP-relative APE RMSE with high time completion and lower reported error than the tested routes under their respective protocols, whereas fisheye VIO without tag factors remains at centimeter scale. Ablations separate accuracy from exportability, and a MILD-Sim replay study provides task-specific tolerance references for interpreting those error magnitudes. Together, MILD and AprilVINS provide a diagnostic benchmarking framework for UMI-style demonstration collection. Code, datasets, and evaluation manifests will be released upon acceptance.

原文摘要

In robotic manipulation, the tight coupling between grasping and motion planning often obscures the true source of failure, leading to inefficient trial-and-error. To enable efficient long-horizon manipulation, we propose GTP-FA (Grasp-Then-Plan with Failure Attribution), a task-oriented two-stage 'grasp-then-plan' framework that generates grasp candidates and performs downstream motion planning conditioned on the selected grasp. Given a failed manipulation trajectory, we learn a failure attribution model that generalizes to unseen grasps and produces a stable distribution over failure modes for diagnosis-guided optimization. Based on these attribution results, we then optimize both modules in a diagnosis-driven manner: on the grasping side, we inject task-level priors and risk penalties into grasp candidate scoring and optimization to suppress unstable or task-incompatible grasps; on the planning side, we target high-risk initial states through data collection and fine-tuning to address genuine planning bottlenecks. We evaluate the proposed framework in both simulation and real-robot experiments, and show that GTP-FA improves the corresponding base learners across RL, IL, diffusion-policy, and VLA-based settings, achieving substantially higher overall task success rates.

原文摘要

As expansion and scalability in underwater oper- ations becomes more important and challenging, autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) become more relevant and the necessity for reliable autonomy more critical. A fundamental challenge in any autonomous underwater operation, from control to safe navigation and mapping, is state estimation; a notorious hard problem to address, especially in low visibility conditions. In this paper, we tackle this problem, by presenting SVIn+, a multi-sensor framework for robust state estimation of AUVs equipped with an IMU, cameras, a water-pressure sensor, a Doppler Velocity Log (DVL), and a compact 3D sonar. This framework extends an established open-source state-of-the-art visual-inertial SLAM, SVIn, by integrating water-pressure and DVL measurements into a tightly-coupled nonlinear optimiza- tion formulation resulting in improved estimates. To leverage the structural information of recently available 3D acoustic sonars while maintaining computational efficiency, we introduce a hierarchical architecture that incorporates estimates from a decoupled front-end via KISS-ICP, treated as relative pose factors within the factor graph. The proposed framework is validated through field deployments in a shipwreck and coral reef, demonstrating drift mitigation and global consistency. To support further research in underwater multi-modal fusion, the code and the datasets can be found on project website https://cmburgul.github.io/projects/svin+/ https://dartmouthrobotics.github.io/svin-plus

Whole-Body Humanoid Control via Stochastic Motion Tokenization

Michael Drolet, Oleg Arenz, Jan Peters

原文摘要

While velocity-commanded RL policies are effective for controlling quadrupeds, they are a limited interface for humanoids that need to perform complex whole-body motions. Furthermore, RL tracking policies for whole-body motions typically have limited information about the desired future motion, preventing them from performing controlled deviations to achieve long-term task success; such information is particularly relevant when a controller must prepare for transitions between behaviors. We address these challenges using concise motion representations that can be generated by a high-level controller, given a behavior label or text command. These representations can be fed directly into a tracking policy to provide a detailed motion reference. Our method exhibits a high degree of flexibility in performing real-world robot motions such as dancing, fighting, or walking based on conditional information. At matched capacity, our adopted stochastic motion tokenizer reconstructs motions from the Unitree G1 at a level that exceeds state-of-the-art approaches such as finite scalar quantization (FSQ) and the vector-quantized autoencoder (VQ-VAE). The resulting discrete interface conditions whole-body tracking policies that execute generated dance, fight, and walk motions lasting 16.8 s each and a 35 s fight-to-dance sequence on a physical Unitree G1.

Ground Sample Distance Constrained k-Coverage Viewpoint Planning via Set Multi-Cover Formulation

Waleed Bin Khalid, Chul Min Yeum

原文摘要

Drone-based 3D reconstruction and inspection require viewpoints that satisfy image-quality constraints while observing each surface region multiple times, which overlap-based planning heuristics do not guarantee. We study ground sample distance (GSD)-constrained $k$-coverage viewpoint selection for structures represented by surface voxels. Candidate viewpoints are generated along outward surface directions, screened with distance, viewing-angle, field-of-view, and occlusion tests, and augmented for voxels with insufficient visibility. Selection is then posed as set multi-cover with per-voxel coverage demands. We propose a dynamically weighted greedy heuristic that prioritizes remaining coverage deficits and scarce viewing alternatives, and compare it with sequential overlap-based pruning and an integer linear programming (ILP) formulation on the same candidate pools. Across two structures, four voxel resolutions, and three coverage requirements, the proposed approach achieves full or near-full $k$-coverage with compact viewpoint sets, using only 3.00--16.39\% more viewpoints than ILP while offering an interpretable selection process based on coverage deficits and viewpoint availability.
