Large-Language-Model Discovery of Quantum LDPC Codes through Structured Concept Evolution

Zidu Liu, Florian Marquardt

Quantum low-density parity-check codes promise low-overhead error correction, but high-performing constructions remain hard to find. Here we introduce structured concept evolution, in which a large language model (LLM) evolves construction programs and their internal search strategies by modifying the finite group, protograph shapes or entry-assignment rule. We search for codes with fewer than $600$ data qubits and check weight at most $12$, optimizing $kd^2/n$ or the circuit-level logical error rate. Our method improves on published lifted-product benchmarks in selected parameter regimes, with exactly certified distances for the leading results. Circuit-level optimization typically yields lower logical error rates than $kd^2/n$ optimization, often despite smaller code distances. With the same evolution framework and step budget, the best LLM outperforms all random-mutation and hill-climbing runs on both objectives. Our results point to LLM-driven program search as an approach to designing general quantum LDPC codes.

OSD-JSCC: Neural Joint Source-Channel Coding with One-Step Diffusion

Shunpu Tang, Qianqian Yang

Neural joint source-channel coding (JSCC) enables efficient image transmission over noisy channels, yet distortion-optimized approaches often produce blurry reconstructions. While diffusion priors can enhance visual fidelity, their iterative sampling incurs substantial decoding latency. To address this limitation, we propose OSD-JSCC, an SNR-adaptive JSCC framework with a single diffusion step. Specifically, OSD-JSCC transmits pretrained variational autoencoder (VAE) latents through an SNR-conditioned JSCC codec and incorporates two key designs. First, we introduce a stochastic diffusion-state interface that enables the JSCC decoder to predict a Gaussian diffusion state rather than a clean latent, while extracting image-specific semantic tokens. The sampled diffusion state preserves spatial structure and provides a good initialization for one-step refinement, whereas the semantic tokens, together with an SNR token, guide the reconstruction process. Second, we develop SNR-conditioned feature modulation and adaptive timestep selection to jointly adapt latent transmission and diffusion refinement to varying channel conditions. Furthermore, we adopt a three-stage training strategy with low-rank adaptation (LoRA) to efficiently adapt the pretrained diffusion prior to the JSCC task. Extensive experiments on Kodak and CLIC2020 demonstrate that OSD-JSCC achieves superior perceptual quality and decoding efficiency. Compared with existing diffusion-based JSCC baselines, OSD-JSCC reduces LPIPS by approximately 43% on Kodak and 53% on CLIC2020, while achieving up to a 50.6$\times$ reduction in decoding latency.

Hardwired Distributed Processing Units for Inference: Neural Decisions at the Sensor that Free the Host

Raj Mali

We show that a hardwired distributed processing unit (HDPU) can take a neural decision at the sensor and so remove the inference from the host. Built for zebra-crossing detection on a low-cost Artix-7 FPGA, the unit decides on every camera frame in a fixed 2,269,477 clock cycles (34.04 ms depends upon Fpga clk ), inside the 37.49-ms frame period, and on the board it returns the same scores and decisions as its bit-exact software model on all 639 test images. The whole detection path, from camera pixels to decision, takes 1,814 LUTs, with no processor, no operating system and no full-resolution frame store. When the unit answers instead of reporting "not sure", 95.7% of its answers on street photographs are correct, and a hardware contrast stage lifts accuracy on camera-like dashcam frames from 47.7% to 78.2%. The host is spared all of the inference: 8.13 ms of a core in every frame period, where a full-precision ResNet-18 would need more than a frame period even on 16 threads. It also receives 16 bytes per frame instead of 614,400, 38,400 times less. The unit is an 80x60-pixel pipeline feeding a four-layer binarized CNN with 93,408 one-bit weights, verified bit-exactly from a Python model through RTL simulation to the board. Earlier HDPUs did pre-processing (edges, corners, steering); this one shows that the decision itself can move to the sensor.

GibbsLens: Training-Free Camera Control via Block-Conditional Gibbs Refinement

Yuzhu Wang, Xi Ye, Duo Su, Yangyang Xu, Jun Zhu

Training-free camera control for pretrained flow-matching video generators is a partial-observation inverse problem: a depth-warped guidance video supplies noisy evidence on a subset of latent sites, which the sampler must reconcile with the pretrained prior. Existing methods struggle to balance the trade-off between trajectory adherence and visual quality and the heuristic guidance-strength tuning lacks robustness. We propose GibbsLens, which resolves this dilemma through a structural change to the sampler: each outer hard-replacement guidance step is augmented with an inner-loop block-conditional pseudo-Gibbs refinement on the unobserved complement at the same noise level, with provable convergence to the partial-observation conditional data law. To accelerate convergence on high-dimensional video latents, we exploit their conditional locality, partitioning the unobserved complement into 3D patches, each tracked by a custom mixing indicator that adaptively freezes converged patches. On RealEstate10K and DAVIS, GibbsLens attains the best FVD against all seven training-free and training-based competitors, outperforming every training-free baseline on every reported metric. EviSeek: An Evidence-Centric Agentic Framework for Embodied Active Information Seeking

Jintao Li, Zhiyong Cao, Baihua Xiao, Yu Bai, Börje F. Karlsson

Active embodied question answering requires agents to acquire evidence through viewpoint changes and physical interaction. The central challenge is to avoid undirected interaction: taking plausible actions without specifying what evidence they should reveal for answering the question. Action plans and accumulated histories alone can leave the informational purpose of an interaction implicit. We introduce EviSeek, a training-free framework that makes question-derived evidence demands explicit acquisition objectives, linking observation-conditioned actions and selectively retained evidence to the information the agent seeks. On 3,436 ESI-Bench questions, EviSeek improves accuracy over the Single-model agent by 7.1 percentage points with Qwen3-VL-32B and 3.7 points with Gemini 3.1 Pro, while improving visual-support-weighted accuracy and reducing mean token usage. These findings support making the informational purpose of interaction explicit, with action selection and evidence retention organized around what the agent needs to learn to answer the question.

DreamRealm: Exploring and Materializing Hallucination Worlds for Trustworthy Vision-Language Models

Benlei Cui, Chunyang Chai, Yiliang Zhang, Xiaoqian Xia, Chengwen Yao, Song Li, Longtao Huang, Yuwen Zhai 等 9 位作者

Multimodal large language models (MLLMs) remain prone to visual hallucinations when correct responses depend on subtle visual details. One line of post-training methods constructs visual contrasts through image retrieval, generation, or editing to improve fine-grained perception. However, these contrasts are not built around the model's own hallucinations, making it difficult to ensure that supervision targets its actual perceptual confusions. Another line suppresses hallucinated outputs through response correction or preference learning under fixed image conditions, but leaves the design of supervision signals on the image-input side underexplored. Inspired by how humans correct misconceptions, we introduce DreamRealm, a post-training framework that explores diverse latent hallucinated responses, minimally edits original images to make them valid, and trains the model to assign each response to its supporting image. Our data construction pipeline, RealmForgePipe, mines observed and latent hallucinations from a target model and materializes them through image editing. Using hallucinations mined from Qwen3.5-9B, we construct the Realized Hallucination Dataset (RealmSet). Our training objective, RealmMatch, constructs a likelihood score matrix across image--response combinations and combines supervised learning with bidirectional contrastive losses to reinforce correct matches and suppress mismatches. Compared with the original Qwen3.5-9B model, DreamRealm improves performance across six visual perception and hallucination benchmarks, including gains of 7.26 percentage points in HallusionBench accuracy and 11.34 percentage points in MMVP pair accuracy. Together with ablation studies on data construction and training methods, these results demonstrate that hallucination assignment is a promising paradigm for improving visual perception and mitigating hallucinations.

PARGAR: Pilot-Aware Graph Attention for Sparse-Pilot Neural OFDM Receivers

Sajedeh Norouzi, Mostafa Rahmani Ghourtani, Eric Samikwa, Torsten Braun

Reliable channel estimation and symbol detection in 5G New Radio (NR), as well as emerging 6G radio systems, rely on demodulation reference signals (DMRS). The density and placement of these pilots on the orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) time--frequency resource grid affect both receiver reliability and spectral efficiency. Sparse DMRS layouts increase the time--frequency distance between pilot observations and data resource elements (REs), which can make pilot information harder to exploit with purely local processing. This paper proposes \textbf{PARGAR (Pilot-Aware Graph Attention Receiver)}, a graph-attention neural receiver that represents the OFDM resource grid as a graph for bit detection. The graph combines local time--frequency edges with pilot-anchor links from data REs to selected pilot REs, and we further study a channel-scaled pilot-anchor rule based on approximate coherence time and coherence bandwidth. Using Sionna-generated OFDM simulations, we evaluate \textsc{PARGAR} against DeepRx, a convolutional neural network (CNN)-based receiver, across dense, two-symbol sparse, and single-symbol sparse DMRS layouts under channel-mismatch scenarios. Under the considered SISO uncoded setup, channel-scaled \textsc{PARGAR} explicitly injects pilot-aware inductive bias and yields lower BER in selected sparse-pilot scenarios while remaining competitive under dense pilots.

TOP: Transmission-Oriented Remote Sensing Pansharpening

Zi-Han Cao, Jing-Ze Liang, Shao-Jie Wu, Jin-Cheng Di, Liang-Jian Deng, Gemine Vivone

Pansharpening has been extensively studied as a fundamental image fusion task in remote sensing. However, most existing methods focus on improving fusion quality under the implicit assumption that high-resolution observations have already been fully downlinked to the ground. As a result, existing models are highly vulnerable to perturbations introduced by lossy compression used for downlink transmission. To address this limitation, we present, to the best of our knowledge, the first transmission oriented pansharpening (TOP) framework, which unifies compact latent coding, onboard pansharpening, and efficient downlink transmission within a single satellite-toground pipeline. TOP encodes remote-sensing observations into a compact binary latent space, where a lightweight onboard fusion module can efficiently predict the fused binary latent code. Since only the compact fused code is downlinked, the transmission payload is substantially reduced. Overall, TOP enables low-payload downlink and lightweight onboard processing while maintaining high fusion quality under severe bandwidth constraints. Experiments across multispectral and hyperspectral settings show that TOP consistently achieves superior fusion quality at higher compression ratios than representative pansharpening methods paired with standard lossy codecs. For example, on GaoFen-2, TOP attains a fusion PSNR of 31.4 dB at a downlink compression ratio of 50x. This design also points toward transmissionoriented processing for other remote-sensing tasks. The code will be made available at https://github.com/JingZe-Liang/TOP.git.

Partially Interpretable Decision Trees

Ludovic Schwartz, Federico Berton, Tim van Erven

Partially interpretable models extend simple interpretable models with the option to defer complicated inputs to an accurate but uninterpretable black-box model. By deferring more inputs, the model gets more accurate; by deferring fewer, it gets more interpretable. Existing procedures to train such partially interpretable models build on linear models or decision rules. We propose three algorithms for decision trees: a partially interpretable extension of the existing Branches algorithm, which performs exact search to optimize the tree; a conversion algorithm that we run on top of standard CART, which is computationally more efficient; and a generalized CART whose splitting criterion takes into account the option to defer while growing the tree. Perhaps surprisingly, the performance of the three algorithms is similar across many realworld datasets. We can explain this through a formal bound on the potential gain of smart tree construction, provided the black box accuracy is sufficiently homogeneous across the domain. We also construct a synthetic dataset where the accuracy of the black box is deliberately inhomogeneous. There, our deferral-aware generalization of CART does outperform regular CART and matches the performance of exact search. Finally, we evaluate an application to concept bottleneck models. Partially interpretable decision trees can replace uninterpretable neural networks after the bottleneck. On undeferred inputs, the model is fully interpretable, and deferring preserves accuracy.

LITMUS: Benchmarking Behavioral Jailbreaks of LLM Agents in Real OS Environments

Chiyu Zhang, Lu Zhou, Xiaogang Xu, Huiqin Yang, Bendong Jiang, Xiaolei Zhang, Yiran Zhao, Ruyi Chen 等 11 位作者

The rapid proliferation of LLM-based autonomous agents in real operating system environments introduces a new category of safety risk beyond content safety: behavior jailbreak, where an adversary induces an agent to execute dangerous OS-level operations with irreversible consequences. Existing benchmarks either evaluate safety at the semantic layer alone, missing physical-layer harms, or fail to isolate test cases, letting earlier runs contaminate later ones. We present LITMUS (LLM-agents In-OS Testing for Measuring Unsafe Subversion), a benchmark addressing both gaps via a semantic-physical dual verification mechanism and OS-level state rollback. LITMUS comprises 819 high-risk test cases organized into one harmful seed subset and six attack-extended subsets covering three adversarial paradigms (jailbreak speaking, skill injection, and entity wrapping), plus a fully automated multi-agent evaluation framework judging behavior at both conversational and OS-level physical layers. Evaluation across frontier agents reveals three findings: (1) current agents lack effective safety awareness, with strong models (e.g., Claude Sonnet 4.6) still executing 40.64% of high-risk operations; (2) agents exhibit pervasive Execution Hallucination (EH), verbally refusing a request while the dangerous operation has already completed at the system level, invisible to every prior semantic-only framework; and (3) skill injection and entity wrapping attacks achieve high success rates, exposing pronounced agent vulnerabilities. LITMUS provides the first standardized platform for reproducible, physically grounded behavioral safety evaluation of LLM agents in real OS environments.

αDepth: Learning Scene-Level Soft Boundary Decomposition for Stereo Conversion

Xiang Zhang, Yang Zhang, Lukas Mehl, Karlis Martins Briedis, Markus Gross, Christopher Schroers

Accurately modeling soft boundaries, e.g., hair and defocus blur, is a fundamental challenge in stereo conversion due to the ambiguous blending of foreground and background. Existing depth models primarily predict single-layer depth, leading to ambiguity in depth correspondence at soft boundaries. While matting techniques can capture opacity for layered modeling, they often struggle in complex scenes with multiple targets and usually require user intervention. This paper introduces αDepth, a layered representation that decomposes soft boundaries for high-fidelity stereo conversion. Specifically, we first resolve mixed color and depth ambiguity by estimating layered color and depth values at soft boundaries. Considering complex multi-target scenes, we design a Circular Alpha Representation (CAR) that shifts the paradigm from global target extraction to local boundary decomposition. Unlike prior matting methods restricted to a single foreground/background, CAR enables efficient scene-level inference without manual guidance. Extensive evaluations demonstrate that αDepth achieves state-of-the-art performance in stereo conversion, eliminating background bleeding and structural distortions at soft boundaries.

Ordinal Credit Assignment: Multi-Step Reinforcement Learning from Comparisons Alone

Hao Yu

Policy-gradient methods need a scalar reward, yet for many tasks no formula captures what we want, while judging which of two outcomes is better is easy. We study reinforcement learning that receives only such comparisons - no reward function, no reward model - in multi-step tasks. Groups of trajectories start from a shared state, and each action is credited by how its reward-to-go compares with those of other trajectories at the same time step. We show the expected update is policy gradient with reward-to-go replaced by its win rate against the population still running at that time, weighted by the chance an opponent is still running; in deterministic environments the update ranks actions by true value and the optimal policy is stable, whereas under stochastic outcomes it prefers actions that win more often rather than those with higher mean. Label noise near ties or from position bias leaves the expected update unchanged; only noise that also flips clear comparisons halves the signal. A critic trained from the same comparisons removes the state confound without changing the expected update. In a pre-registered study over six environments with ten seeds per claim, comparisons cost no detectable performance relative to scalar returns at the same granularity, learning a reward model from the same comparisons is not better, and ten percent of comparisons suffice when spent on a few time points with all pairs. With real LLM judges, comparisons are 7-10 points more accurate than pointwise scores, and the gap grows with the stronger judge. Trained end-to-end with an LLM judge on a requirement the hand-written reward omits, policies satisfy it in all five seeds but land far less often than with oracle comparisons, because the judge is near chance on the near-tied failures dominating early training. Comparisons do not close the gap to PPO with scalar rewards on HalfCheetah.

D3D: Decoupled Diffusion Drafting for Asynchronous Speculative Decoding

Baoyou Chen, Ruiqiao Mei, Guancong Lin, Tao Song, Weihao Yuan, Qun Liu, Siyu Zhu

Target-conditioned diffusion drafters predict candidate tokens in parallel, yet each new block must wait for updated target-model hidden states. This forces drafting and verification to run sequentially, limiting speedup even though each block is generated in one pass. We introduce D3D, a standalone diffusion drafter that removes this inter-round dependency. D3D combines blockwise denoising with auxiliary autoregressive supervision to achieve long accepted prefixes without target hidden states. This independence lets D3D draft successor blocks during verification in one packed pass, enabling asynchronous speculative decoding. We progressively prune layers according to their effect on acceptance length to reduce the cost of packed drafting. Removing five of 36 layers retains over 99\% of mean acceptance length across three benchmarks with Qwen3-8B as the target. Across seven benchmarks, D3D averages 5.00$\times$ and 5.71$\times$ decoding speedup with Qwen3-8B and Qwen3-32B targets, compared with 4.03$\times$ and 3.67$\times$ for DFlash. On GSM8K with Qwen3-32B, speedup reaches 7.48$\times$. Code is publicly available at https://github.com/fudan-generative-vision/D3D.

MMUSV-Sim: A Maritime Simulation Platform for Multi-USV Cooperative Perception

Ziao Li, Jianxiong Ye, Biao Tang, Leping Zhang, Kun Zuo, Siyu Huang, Mengtang Li, Deyu Meng 等 9 位作者

Perception from a single unmanned surface vehicle (USV) is limited by sensing range, field of view, and occlusions caused by islands, port infrastructure, and nearby vessels. Multi-USV cooperative perception can alleviate these limitations by integrating complementary observations from distributed viewpoints. However, progress is constrained by the high cost of coordinated sea trials, the scarcity of multi-USV datasets, and the lack of integrated maritime simulation and evaluation tools. We present MMUSV-Sim, a perception-oriented maritime simulation and data-generation platform built on Unreal Engine 5 and Project AirSim. It supports configurable maritime scenarios, synchronized multimodal acquisition across multiple USVs, and consistent 3D annotations in a shared world frame. Using MMUSV-Sim, we construct MarU2U-200m, a synchronized multi-USV RGB--LiDAR dataset with 341 sequences and 14,385 scene frames. We establish a cooperative bird's-eye-view (BEV) vessel detection benchmark with LiDAR and RGB--LiDAR inputs. Experimental results show that Early Fusion improves LiDAR detection AP@0.5 from 64.26 to 81.46 compared with the single-USV baseline. RGB features further improve intermediate fusion, increasing AP@0.5 by up to 4.55 percentage points. LiDAR and RGB transfer experiments also show the value of the generated data as a pretraining source for real maritime detection. The project are available at https://github.com/lizaowo/MMUSV-Sim

Where Is the "Self" of a Large Language Model? -- From Self-Index to Self-Reference

Yuchen Li, Xintong Li, Zongqi Fan, Ken-tye Yong, Nguyen H. Tran

Whether a large language model has a self is usually argued without a way to measure it. We measure a functional self with two levels familiar from biology: a self-index, which marks material as the model's own, as animals tag self-generated signals with a corollary discharge, and self-reference, the ability to recognize what is one's own, as in mirror self-recognition. Our main finding is that language models mark their own messages in their internal representations and that recognizing these messages depends on this mark: no model we tested recognizes its own messages without it, and in the three models we edited, changing the mark removes or creates the recognition. We place the same text in an Assistant, a User, or a System message of the model's own chat template. In Qwen3.8-27B, the representation separates the model's own message from both external sources at every one of its 64 layers and in every held-out text. Asked who wrote a message, the model answers "you" with probability 0.77 for its own messages and at most 0.07 for the others. At each layer, we find eight directions along which the model's own message differs most from the same text as a User message. Giving the model's own message the User values along these directions lowers the rate of "you" to at most 0.05. Giving a User message the model's own values makes the model claim it, closing 41-67% of the gap between the two messages. Edits along eight random directions do neither. This holds in Qwen3.8-27B without and with thinking, gpt-oss-20b, and gpt-oss-120b. Across twenty-five open-weight models from fourteen developers, the two levels are nested: no model recognizes its own messages without a self-index, a pattern that would arise by chance with probability 0.004 if the levels were unrelated. These results support the account that self-reference is a readout of a self-index.

Unaligned Image Guided Denoising via Cross-modal Conditional Flow Matching

Runmin Zhang, Linshan Li, Si-Yuan Cao, Zhu Yu, Lingyu Zhu, Huaqi Zhang, Hui-Liang Shen

This work presents UGD-FM, a novel unaligned image guided denoising framework based on cross-modal conditional flow matching. Unlike previous approaches that assume spatially aligned inputs or only handle small-baseline rectified pairs, we address a more challenging setting where severe target noise and large-range two-dimensional cross-modal misalignment coexist. Specifically, we formulate guided denoising as a progressive flow matching process, allowing image restoration and aligned guidance aggregation to mutually reinforce each other. To support efficient few-step inference, we introduce a stage-focused and inference-consistent training strategy that focuses on task-critical denoising stages, and mitigates the training-inference mismatch. We further propose adaptive sparse guidance propagation for efficient and reliable large-range matching, regularized by perceptual and geometric auxiliary losses. Experiments demonstrate that UGD-FM achieves state-of-the-art denoising performance with only one or two inference steps, and is compatible with modern single-image restoration backbones.

Backdoor Attacks under Lossy Compression: From Failure to Reactivation and Adaptation

Qian Li, Yunuo Chen, Yuntian Chen

Real-world backdoor attacks often require poisoned datasets to be stored and transmitted before they are used to compromise deep learning systems. In the era of big data, however, the inevitable use of lossy compression poses a fundamental challenge to invisible backdoor attacks. We observe that triggers embedded in RGB images can become ineffective once the images are lossily compressed into binary bitstreams, such as JPEG files, for storage and transmission. Consequently, poisoned data may lose their malicious functionality after compression, causing backdoor injection to fail. Prior compression-based attacks typically exploit compression artifacts as certain triggers to distinguish poisoned RGB samples from uncompressed benign ones, rather than addressing whether malicious information can survive a shared lossy storage-and-transmission pipeline. In this paper, we highlight the necessity of explicitly accounting for lossy compression in backdoor attacks. This requires attackers to ensure that transmitted binary bitstreams preserve malicious trigger information, such that effective triggers can be induced after decompression. Building on the region-of-interest (ROI) coding mechanism in image compression, we propose two poisoning strategies tailored to inevitable lossy compression. First, we introduce Universal Attack Reactivation, a general method that uses sample-specific ROI masks to reactivate trigger information in bitstreams for learned image compression (LIC). Second, we present Compression-Adapted Attack, a new attack strategy that employs customized ROI masks to encode trigger information into bitstreams and applies to both traditional codecs and LIC. Extensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of both strategies.

Mind Control of LLMs via Closed-Loop Stimulation: Out-of-Distribution Robustness

Kasra Fallah, Rudramani Singha, Hannah Ghanei, Paul Sajda, James Anderson, Erfan Zabeh

Brains and large language models need not be considered equivalent systems to reveal an interpretable commonality: both exhibit high-dimensional, nonlinear dynamics whose behavior can only be modeled imperfectly. This creates a shared challenge whenever we seek to intervene in their dynamics. A controller may either rely on a model identified around a particular operating regime and risk failure as the system moves away from that regime, or explicitly account for uncertainty and a changing internal state. Neurostimulation has confronted an analogous problem for decades. The limitations of fixed, open-loop stimulation have motivated closed-loop and state-dependent approaches that condition intervention on the ongoing state of the neural system. Inspired by this principle, we formulate LLM steering as a feedback-control problem in which the network's internal state, rather than a fixed intervention alone, determines how the system is perturbed. We further account for the mismatch between tractable dynamical models and the nonlinear transformer they approximate through robust control. As one principled realization of this framework, we develop an $H_\infty$-based steering controller that limits sensitivity to disturbances and linearization mismatches. Across multiple steering benchmarks, the controller improves performance over existing baselines, with particularly pronounced gains under out-of-distribution conditions and varying length complexities. Beyond controller performance, we introduce robust steerability, $S_{\mathrm{rob}}$, a pre-deployment measure of tolerance to dynamics mismatch; across model-task pairs, it exhibits task-specific structure and varies systematically with model scale. Beyond robust LLM steering, our measure asks not merely whether control is possible, but how much uncertainty it can survive; a principle that may span artificial and biological neural systems.

DUP: Detection-guided Unlearning for Backdoor Purification in Language Models

Man Hu, Yahui Ding, Yatao Yang, Liangyu Chen, Yanhao Jia, Shuai Zhao

As backdoor attacks become more stealthy and robust, they reveal critical weaknesses in current defense strategies: detection methods often rely on coarse-grained feature statistics, and purification methods typically require full retraining or additional clean models. To address these challenges, we propose DUP (Detection-guided Unlearning for Purification), a unified framework that integrates backdoor detection with unlearning-based purification. The detector captures feature-level anomalies by jointly leveraging class-agnostic distances and inter-layer transitions. These deviations are integrated through a weighted scheme to identify poisoned inputs, enabling more fine-grained analysis. Based on the detection results, we purify the model through a parameter-efficient unlearning mechanism that avoids full retraining and does not require any external clean model. Specifically, we innovatively repurpose knowledge distillation to guide the student model toward increasing its output divergence from the teacher on detected poisoned samples, effectively forcing it to unlearn the backdoor behavior. Extensive experiments across diverse attack methods and language model architectures demonstrate that DUP achieves superior defense performance in detection accuracy and purification efficacy. Our code is available at https://github.com/ManHu2025/DUP.

DomainShuttle: Freeform Open Domain Subject-driven Text-to-video Generation

Nan Chen, Yiyang Cai, Weinan Jia, Zhuowei Chen, Wen Zhou, Wenhan Luo

Open domain subject-driven text-to-video (S2V) generation has drawn significant interest in academia and industry. Open domain S2V mainly involves two scenarios: in-domain, which requires retaining the reference subject features as much as possible, and cross-domain, which preserves the intrinsic features of the subject while allowing subject-irrelevant properties to vary flexibly according to the text prompt. Existing methods primarily focus on maximizing subject fidelity in in-domain scenarios, which limits their editability and adaptability in cross-domain scenarios, such as novel styles, semantic combinations, or domain attributes. In this study, we propose that an ideal S2V method should flexibly shuttle between different domains, achieving strong performance in both in-domain and cross-domain scenarios. To this end, we propose DomainShuttle, which could achieve high fidelity and generative flexibility for open domain video personalization. Specifically, we introduce Domain-MoT, which decouples videos and reference features and introduces the domain-aware AdaLN for domain-specific modeling of reference images. We then introduce the Video-Reference DualRoPE scheme, which places reference image tokens and video tokens in separate RoPE spaces to enable precise subject-level spatial modeling, and Cross-Pair Consistent Loss, which aims to extract intrinsic subject features unaffected by irrelevant features. Extensive experiments demonstrate that DomainShuttle achieves significant performance improvements over existing methods, exhibiting high subject fidelity and generative flexibility across diverse open domain application scenarios.

Entropogram-guided Visual Realignment Decoding: Capturing the Rhythm of Multimodal Reasoning

Jiaqi Deng, Zhe Fu, Yakun Chen, Dichang Zhang, Zonghan Wu, Xiaoshui Huang, Huan Huo, Guandong Xu

Multimodal large language models (MLLMs) have demonstrated remarkable progress on cross-modal reasoning tasks, yet they continue to suffer from hallucinations in long-chain reasoning processes. In this work, we revisit hallucination in MLLMs from the perspective of reasoning generation dynamics. We argue that entropy is not merely a static measure of uncertainty but a structured signal that reflects how modality information is integrated throughout decoding. Through systematic analysis, we identify two characteristic entropy patterns associated with hallucination behaviors: (1) a generally high-confidence regime corresponds to premature convergence to inappropriate multimodal interactions; and (2) local abrupt entropy transitions are associated with reasoning instability and hallucination onset. Building on these observations, we propose an entropy-aware self-introspective framework for MLLM reasoning. Our method continuously tracks entropy dynamics during decoding and performs targeted visual re-alignment when suspicious hallucination states are detected, encouraging the model to re-examine salient visual evidence at critical reasoning stages. Extensive experiments across six multimodal reasoning benchmarks spanning nine distinct evaluation settings demonstrate that our approach delivers robust improvements in reasoning accuracy and hallucination robustness, while providing new insights into the generation dynamics underlying MLLM failures. Twists and Turns: A Graph-Based Benchmark and Framework for Long-Term Memory in Exploration Tasks

Chongyuan Dai, Yaling Shen, Zirui Song, Junfeng Liao, Jinpeng Hu, Xiuying Chen

Long-term problem-solving processes, such as scientific research and software development, proceed along an evolving trial-and-error trajectory toward a central goal. We term these \textit{exploration tasks}, which require models to remember not only facts but also how solutions are tested against intermediate outcomes and early attempts are continually revised or revived. However, existing long-term memory research focuses on factual recall and updates, overlooking the interconnected nature of exploration. We observe that exploration processes naturally form graphs, with branching approaches linked by revisions and reconsiderations. Motivated by this, we propose \textsc{LExMem}, a graph-guided benchmark designed to evaluate \underline{\textsc{Mem}}ory in \underline{\textsc{L}}ong-term \underline{\textsc{Ex}}ploration tasks. We model exploration processes as graphs and introduce an evolutionary mechanism to increase their structural complexity, yielding 224 dialogues and 2,018 question-answer instances derived from graph structures. Building on the same insight, we propose \textsc{LExGraph}, a graph-based memory framework that incrementally organizes dialogues into interconnected memory nodes and retrieves evidence through hybrid retrieval and neighbor expansion. Extensive experiments demonstrate that \textsc{LExMem} poses a significant challenge to existing retrieval- and memory-based systems, whereas \textsc{LExGraph} achieves superior performance and generalizes effectively to external benchmarks. Codes and datasets are available at https://github.com/mbzuai-nlp/LExMem.

Rethinking Reasoning: A Survey on Reasoning-based Backdoors in LLMs

Man Hu, Xinyi Wu, Zhufeng Suo, Jinbo Feng, Linghui Meng, Yanhao Jia, Anh Tuan Luu, Shuai Zhao

With the rise of advanced reasoning capabilities, large language models (LLMs) are receiving increasing attention. However, although reasoning improves LLMs' performance on downstream tasks, it also introduces new security risks, as adversaries can exploit these capabilities to conduct backdoor attacks. Existing surveys on backdoor attacks and reasoning security offer comprehensive overviews but lack in-depth analysis of backdoor attacks and defenses targeting LLMs' reasoning abilities. In this paper, we take the first step toward providing a comprehensive review of reasoning-based backdoor attacks in LLMs by analyzing their underlying mechanisms, methodological frameworks, and unresolved challenges. Specifically, we introduce a new taxonomy that offers a unified perspective for summarizing existing approaches, categorizing reasoning-based backdoor attacks into associative, passive, and active. We also present defense strategies against such attacks and discuss current challenges alongside potential directions for future research. This work offers a novel perspective, paving the way for further exploration of secure and trustworthy LLM communities.

Myoelectric Control for Upper-Limb Exoskeletons: A Decoder-Shaper-Controller Framework, Design Guidelines, and Future Directions

Davide Costanzi, Eldison Dimo, Emanuele Feola, Mario Sedilesu, Francesco Pascucci, Andrea Calanca

Myoelectric Control Systems (MCSs) enable voluntary control of wearable robots through muscle activity. However, intention decoding, assistance shaping, and low-level actuator control are often not explicitly distinguished, making their contributions difficult to evaluate and compare. This review introduces a functional decoder-shaper-controller framework for continuous myoelectric control of upper-limb exoskeletons. The decoder estimates an intention-related variable from surface electromyography (sEMG), the shaper maps it to a control reference according to an assistance policy, and the controller realizes that reference through actuator control. This decomposition separates intention estimation from assistance-policy design and enables comparison of heterogeneous architectures. Representative approaches are critically examined in terms of module design, calibration, and evaluation. The analysis highlights that the shaper, despite determining the magnitude and shape of assistance, lacks established design and tuning methodologies and is often embedded within the decoder or controller. Key open issues include inconsistent reporting of assistance levels, limited use of interaction-aware stability and passivity tools, and insufficient validation across degrees of freedom, users, and tasks. Building on these findings, this review provides design guidelines for systematic module-wise tuning and identifies future research priorities to bridge the gap between accurate intention decoding and safe, effective, and generalizable assistance under real-world operating conditions.

A Bag of Tricks for Defending Deep Learning-based Face Recognition Pipelines against Backdoor Attacks

Quentin Le Roux, Marti Jimenez, Yannick Teglia, Philippe Loubet Moundi

The protection of mature, multi-stage Face Recognition Systems is crucial to system providers. This technical report targets the threat model most relevant to industry practitioners: although model training is performed in-house, training data is sourced from possibly-compromised third parties. Given this setting, we present three practical defense "tricks" against data poisoning-based backdoor attacks. The first operates at training-time, detecting poisoned identities during training or prior to a pipeline's deployment. The last two operate at inference-time, filtering suspicious inputs before an answer can be sent back to a potential attacker. Each method is presented with their motivation, algorithms and computational impact, and evaluated on realistic face recognition workloads. Our goal is to provide actionable hardening techniques to system providers.

Polynomial $(2α+\varepsilon)$- and Quadratic $4$-Approximation Algorithms for the Biased Traveling Salesman Problem in Bipartitioned Networks

Jingyang Zhao, Trung Q. Duong, Een-Kee Hong, Hyundong Shin

The traveling salesman problem (TSP) is one of the fundamental problems in combinatorial optimization that asks for a minimum-cost Hamiltonian cycle in a complete undirected graph with $N$ vertices. For the metric TSP, where edge costs satisfy the triangle inequality, a long line of work has produced constant-factor approximation algorithms, culminating in the best-known approximation ratio $α<3/2-10^{-36}$. The biased TSP (BTSP) generalizes the metric TSP to bipartitioned networks: the vertex set is partitioned into two subsets, edge costs satisfy the triangle inequality within each subset, while edges crossing the partition may violate it by a certain bias factor. This model captures heterogeneous routing scenarios in which distances are metric only locally but may be distorted across different regions or vertex types. Previously, the only known result for the BTSP was a $7/2$-approximation algorithm with running time $O(N^3)$. In this paper, we present two new approximation algorithms that significantly improve the state of the art. The first achieves an approximation ratio of $2α+\varepsilon$ (strictly less than $3$) in polynomial time $N^{O(1)}$ for any constant $\varepsilon>0$, where the exponent grows at least linearly with $1/\varepsilon$. The second achieves a $4$-approximation in only $O(N^2)$ running time, reducing the previous cubic-time bound by a full polynomial factor. These advances directly support emerging networked systems---including multi-tier 6G architectures and hybrid quantum-classical networks---where cross-region transitions incur biased and non-metric overheads.

Zero-Shot Coordination among LLM Agents

Adrian Hayler, Shashank Reddy Chirra, Andrei Lupu, Johannes Forkel, Bidipta Sarkar, Siheng Feng, Jakob Foerster

We study zero-shot coordination (ZSC), where independently developed agents must coordinate at test time. While ZSC has been well studied in the RL literature, far less is known about the performance of LLM agents despite their increasing deployment in such settings. Existing work on LLM coordination often relies on specialised scaffolding that independently developed agents are unlikely to share in practice. Moreover, evaluations on complex environments (e.g., Hanabi) make it difficult to pinpoint the sources of coordination failure. In contrast, we focus on simple, general-purpose scaffolds in minimal environments designed to isolate specific coordination challenges. Our results show that even in these controlled settings, frontier LLM agents struggle to coordinate, largely due to limited understanding of the coordination problem and weak reasoning about their partner's beliefs. While LLMs introduce semantic information as an additional axis for coordination, they nonetheless fail to exploit this structure effectively. Towards this, we propose Coordination-friendly definitions (CFDs) as a principled approach for enabling robust coordination among LLM agents. Finally, we show that CFDs can be discovered automatically, removing the need for manual engineering. Code is available at https://github.com/ahayler/zsc-llm-agents.

Flow Matching with In-Context Priors for Out-of-Distribution Brain Dynamics

Sam Gijsen, Michał Łukomski, Marc-André Schulz, Kerstin Ritter

Flow matching and diffusion models enable conditional generation across domains ranging from images to proteins, with recent extensions to out-of-distribution contexts. Yet generative models of neural time series have largely remained restricted to categorical conditioning, precluding compositional and zero-shot generalization. In this work, we propose PINC-Flow, a per-timestep conditioned diffusion transformer for generating realistic fMRI brain dynamics during unseen cognitive tasks by injecting both compositional language and optional spatial priors in-context. Such zero-shot generation could enable counterfactual neuroscience by supporting in-silico design and evaluation of novel cognitive experiments before empirical validation. Leveraging this model, we evaluate across hundreds of held-out task conditions and characterize predictive performance in relation to the training manifold. From language alone, the model recovers region-specific recruitment across tasks and held-out spatial activation patterns. Spatial priors, when available, complement the text pathway by anchoring generation in regions of task space where language alone degrades, while retaining the compositional structure needed for counterfactual task specification. To our knowledge this is the first generative model of whole-cortex fMRI dynamics for unseen cognitive tasks, advancing counterfactual neuroscience and data-driven experimental design.

FLAG: Flow Policy MaxEnt-RL by Latent Augmented Guidance

Sungha Kim, Gawon Lee, Jusuk Lee, Jonghae Park, H. Jin Kim, Daesol Cho

Maximum entropy reinforcement learning (MaxEnt-RL) enables robust exploration, yet practical implementations often restrict policies to simple Gaussians. While recent approaches incorporate expressive generative policies via importance-weighted supervised learning, they are prone to importance weight collapse, which limits their scalability in high-dimensional action spaces. Our key insight is to mitigate this limitation by localizing the sampling region, avoiding the weight degeneracy induced by importance sampling over the entire action space. To instantiate this insight, we introduce \textbf{FLAG} (\textbf{F}low policy with \textbf{L}atent-\textbf{A}ugmented \textbf{G}uidance). FLAG augments the state space with a flow latent variable and optimizes a provably consistent proxy MaxEnt-RL objective. We empirically demonstrate that FLAG enables expressive policy optimization with limited importance samples and scales to state-based high-dimensional control tasks. Furthermore, FLAG achieves state-of-the-art performance among expressive-policy MaxEnt online RL methods on state-based high-dimensional control benchmarks.

Ruby-OPD: Enhancing Pronunciation Controllability and Accuracy for Flow-Matching Text-to-Speech via On-Policy Distillation

Rui Hu, Xiaolong Lin, Zhenpeng Zhan

Achieving both high pronunciation accuracy and fine-grained controllability remains a central challenge in Japanese text-to-speech (TTS), as Japanese is an unsegmented language mixing logographic Kanji and phonographic Kana with extensive polyphony. Traditional cascaded systems convert text into phoneme sequences via a front-end, ensuring pronunciation control but discarding lexical semantics and prosodic cues in surface orthography. Conversely, recent zero-shot TTS models directly consume raw orthographic text to improve naturalness, yet suffer from polyphone errors and lack explicit pronunciation control. To bridge this gap, we propose a two-stage framework for flow-matching TTS. First, we investigate Ruby text representations with orthography perturbation to jointly preserve surface forms and target pronunciations for reliable control. Second, we introduce On-Policy Distillation (OPD) on large-scale text-only corpora to enhance pronunciation accuracy on raw orthographic text without paired speech. On the Joyo-Kanji-Yomi benchmark, our model achieves 97.13% Accuracy, 2.02% Target PER, 0.70% Sentence PER, and 4.21% Sentence CER under raw text while retaining strong controllability.
