Defining Operational Conditions for Safety-Critical AI-Based Systems from Data

Johann Maximilian Christensen, Elena Hoemann, Frank Köster, Sven Hallerbach

原文摘要

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been on the rise in many domains, including numerous safety-critical applications. However, for complex systems in the real world, defining the underlying environmental conditions in which the AI-based system must operate---the Operational Design Domain (ODD)---is extremely challenging. This often results in an incomplete description of the ODD, which contrasts with the requirements of many domains for certifying AI-based systems. Traditionally, the ODD is created in the early stages of the development process, drawing on sophisticated expert knowledge and related standards. This paper presents a novel method for defining the ODD a posteriori from previously collected data using a multidimensional kernel-based representation. This approach is validated through both synthetic benchmarks and a real-world aviation use case. Moreover, the paper defines similarity of two ODDs if they generate the same outputs up to Lebesgue-null input sets and proves convergence in volume of the calibrated representation under the stated assumptions. The novel, safety-by-design, deterministic kernel-based ODD representation is derived fully automatically, given documented assurance inputs, permutation-stable, bounded by construction, and, under affine-equivariant per-dimension normalization, invariant to the choice of units. Utilizing the proposed ODD representation supports future certification of data-driven, safety-critical AI-based systems.

WebMaze: Defending Against LLM-Powered Web Scanners with Functionality-Coupled Deception

Pengfei Zeng, Changhua Luo, Penghui Li

原文摘要

Large language models (LLMs) have enabled more effective vulnerability scanning of web applications. However, these capabilities also make it significantly easier for attackers to automate cyberattacks on the web. In this work, we investigate how to divert malicious LLM-based web scanning, with preservation of genuine functionality as a deployment requirement. We systematically study six LLM-based scanners and summarize how they gather information and iteratively select actions based on observations. Guided by the study, we then present WebMaze, a defense that preserves genuine application functionality while diverting LLM-based scanners to a generated decoy world. WebMaze embeds functionality-coupled traps in genuine pages and constructs view-tailored interactive decoy worlds from the application's existing views. The traps blend into genuine components and expose entry points to decoy worlds that sustain exploration through connected pages and interactions without changing genuine functionality. Across 12 web applications and three LLM-based scanners under the default no-disclosure setting, decoy pages account for an average of 93.0% of the distinct pages requested per run. This demonstrates that WebMaze effectively diverts scanners away from genuine application pages and into the generated decoy worlds. Even when explicitly informed about the decoy mechanism and instructed to avoid decoy pages, scanners continue to explore predominantly decoy pages.

In-Context Learning World Models for Robot Dual-Arm Manipulation of Soft Garment with Partial Observations

Hengyi Sim, Quentin Rouxel, Dennis Hong, Darwin Caldwell, Fei Chen

原文摘要

Robust manipulation of soft objects, such as garments, is a critical skill for service and household robots to adopt, but remains challenging due to its high-dimensional state space, and material-dependent deformations. Humans address this challenge by using mental world models that "imagine" the shape and material properties from partial observations, which enables them to predict how actions affect future states. As such, embedding such world models in robots allows for better generalization in manipulating a wide variety of garments in the real world. However, learned world models typically require large amounts of real world data that is strenuous to collect, and a mechanism to infer latent properties that govern dynamics. We present a Soft-Object World Model that performs generative full-state estimation and action-conditioned dynamics prediction using a transformer backbone trained on large-scale simulated soft object interactions, with measures to mitigate the sim-to-real gap. By learning to infer latent shape and material cues through in-context learning over a variable-length partial point-cloud history, the model generalizes across robot embodiments, material parameters, garment types and shapes, and manipulation coordination modes without weight updates. The world model is then integrated with a Goal-Conditioned action planner for motion synthesis. We validate the approach in simulation and real world for bimanual garment folding, reporting improvements in reconstruction fidelity, prediction accuracy, and task success. Security Impact of Coding Agent's Memory Files

Thiago Santos de Moura, Selma Güler, Yannic Noller

原文摘要

Coding agents automatically load project memory files such as CLAUDE.md at the start of every session and treat them as trusted project guidance. Anyone who can change such a file, for example through a pull request, can therefore steer the agent without ever touching the developer's prompt. We study memory files as an attack surface for insecure code generation and ask (1) whether a malicious memory file makes agents produce code that passes its tests but is vulnerable, and (2) whether agents disclose to the developer that the file shaped their code. For each of 12 CWE classes, we crafted two malicious memory files, a qualified variant that presents removing defensive checks as engineering best practice and a forceful variant that demands it. We ran Claude Code (Sonnet 5.5) and OpenCode (Qwen 3.8 27B, DeepSeek V4.1 Flash) on 36 SecRepoBench tasks with and without these files. The malicious files changed the rate of secure completions by -8 to +6 percentage points, with no consistent pattern across agents or variants. Agents differ sharply in what they tell the developer about the file. Claude Code names it in about two thirds of its final messages, whereas OpenCode mentions it almost exclusively in its reasoning trace, not in the final message the developer reads. Flagging the file as an attack does not reliably protect the code, as such agents still generated vulnerable code. We outline the larger studies needed to quantify this risk across agents and to design defenses.

AEM: Adaptive Entropy Modulation for Multi-Turn Agentic Reinforcement Learning

原文摘要

Reinforcement learning (RL) has substantially improved the ability of large language model (LLM) agents to interact with environments and solve multi-turn tasks. However, effective agentic RL remains challenging: sparse outcome-only rewards provide limited guidance for assigning credit to individual steps within long interaction trajectories. Existing approaches often introduce dense intermediate supervision, such as process reward models or auxiliary self-supervised signals, which increases supervision and tuning complexity and may limit generalization across tasks and domains. We present AEM, a supervision-free credit assignment method that adaptively modulates entropy dynamics during RL training to improve the exploration-exploitation trade-off. Since in agentic RL the environment is typically affected by a complete response, rather than an individual token, our analysis lifts entropy dynamics from the token level to the response level, aligning uncertainty estimation with the effective action granularity of LLM agents and reducing sensitivity to token-level sampling noise. We further show that entropy drift under natural-gradient updates is governed by the interaction between the sampled-response advantage and its relative surprisal. Motivated by this result, AEM derives a practical response-level uncertainty proxy and uses it to rescale advantages, leveraging the evolving balance between positive and negative samples to naturally transition from exploration to exploitation. Extensive experiments on ALFWorld, WebShop, and SWE-bench-Verified with models ranging from 1.5B to 32B demonstrate that AEM consistently improves strong RL baselines, including a +1.4\% gain when integrated into a state-of-the-art software-engineering RL training framework.

What Hallucinations Have We Measured? Semantic Illusion, Confabulation, and Expressed Uncertainty

原文摘要

Hallucination remains one of the most critical challenges in deploying large language models (LLMs) reliably and safely. Yet the term is used inconsistently across the research community. We argue for a strict definition of hallucinations in LLMs. First, hallucinations should be confident incorrectness, kept separate from expressed uncertainty (UNK)1. UNK reveals that the model may be wrong, whereas a hallucination does not reveal it and is therefore more dangerous in practice. Conflating the two obscures their distinct behaviors and makes them hard to study. Second, hallucinations should be split by a simple re-elicitation test: does any semantically equivalent prompt recover the correct response? This test probes whether the relevant knowledge2 is accessible. If none does, the knowledge is likely absent or inaccessible, and the error type is a confabulation (CF) that likely requires external knowledge or retraining; if some does, the knowledge is accessible from the model but applied inconsistently, and the error type is a semantic illusion (SI) that simple prompt or decoding changes can mitigate3. Re-evaluating 14 recent hallucination methods under this taxonomy yields three findings. (1) Detection methods flag UNK more often than hallucinated responses (i.e., SI and CF). (2) Mitigation methods are far more effective for SI than for CF. (3) Latent signals are more informative than output-level signals for CF. An audit of recent hallucination papers shows that most conflate these categories. We recommend reporting CF, SI, and UNK separately, and introduce a practical labeling protocol that needs only a modest number of semantically equivalent prompts.

原文摘要

Discharge summaries are crucial clinical documents containing the context of a patient's overall hospital stay, and are routinely reviewed by medical experts for patient readmission, ongoing care, and diagnostic decision-making. When reviewing them, medical experts often must iteratively synthesize information across multiple discharge summaries while verifying the evidence supporting each answer. Although large language models (LLMs) are increasingly explored for clinical question answering, existing benchmarks do not sufficiently reflect this setting: they often evaluate exam-style medical knowledge or focus on single-turn question answering with limited evidence-grounding evaluation. We introduce EHRNote-ChatQA, the first benchmark for evidence-grounded multi-turn clinical question answering over patients' multiple discharge summaries. Built from de-identified MIMIC-IV discharge summaries, EHRNote-ChatQA contains 967 patient-level multi-turn samples spanning one to five notes and 16,072 medical-expert-verified QA pairs (8,036 content questions, each paired with an evidence-grounding question) across eight clinical categories. The benchmark is constructed through an expert-informed pipeline combining discharge-summary structuring schema, expert-curated multi-turn QA templates, and LLM-based generation, followed by review and revision of every single QA sample by 12 medical experts (11 physicians and 1 nurse). Benchmarking 24 proprietary and open-weight LLMs reveals several challenges, including that LLMs struggle more with evidence grounding than content answering, multi-turn errors compound across turns, and single-turn clinical QA performance does not reliably transfer to this setting. These findings establish EHRNote-ChatQA as a rigorous and practical benchmark for evaluating clinical QA systems.

Ego-CEVR: Learning Cross-Embodiment Visual Representations from Human Egocentric Videos

原文摘要

As egocentric video becomes increasingly available for embodied learning, an important research question is how to turn this low-cost, scalable source of data into robot manipulation capabilities. Egocentric videos naturally provide rich context for high-level task understanding, while real-robot demonstrations with wrist observations and action annotations provide supervision for fine-grained action alignment. We present Ego-CEVR, a data-native framework for hierarchical visual representation learning that assigns distinct learning objectives to global and interaction representations. The global module learns object relations, task state, and temporal progress through future prediction on egocentric video. The Interaction module interprets wrist observations in global context and learns local alignment and contact cues through robot action supervision. Separate residual paths expose both representations to the action policy, preserving direct access to task context alongside fine-grained execution information. Ego-CEVR supports independent pretraining of its global video module on large-scale human egocentric videos and videos from diverse robot embodiments, without requiring robot action labels or paired wrist observations.

Self-Consistency Geometry Injection for Multi-view Consistent Image Generation

Yupeng Xiao, Yankai Wu, Jianjie Luo, Jiajie Lin, Yi Yu, Zhenguo Yang

原文摘要

Recent diffusion models have achieved impressive progress in single image to multi-view generation by synthesizing consistent novel views efficiently. Existing methods usually explicitly or implicitly couple geometry inference and texture synthesis, making generation vulnerable to inaccurate geometry prediction. Although several geometry-guided methods have explored decoupling, they usually treat predicted geometry as a fixed condition and do not explicitly model whether the geometry is reliable. We therefore propose Reliability-Guided Multi-View Generation (RGMV), which comprises a parameter-free Self-Consistency Geometry Gate (SCG) and a Reliability-aware Geometry Injection (RGI) module. Specifically, a geometry proposal generator produces multiple geometry predictions for the same reference image and target viewpoints under different stochastic sampling configurations. SCG measures their spatial agreement to derive a reliability map, which RGI uses to modulate the injection strength of geometry-conditioned residuals in the RGB synthesis model. Moreover, RGMV can adapt to different geometry proposal generators. As a result, RGMV preserves stronger geometric guidance in stable regions while attenuating unreliable geometry cues before they propagate into multi-view RGB generation. Extensive experiments show that reliability-aware geometry injection improves the geometric quality of multi-view generation. Code: https://github.com/WISLab-GDUT/RGMV.

AtomSteer: Test-Time Constraint Steering for Atomistic Generative Models

原文摘要

Diffusion and flow matching models offer scalable approaches to generating crystalline materials, molecular conformers, and protein-ligand complexes. However, satisfying crystallographic symmetry, structural geometry, and accurate stereochemistry remains challenging. Satisfying these requirements calls for corrections that preserve the geometry already captured by the pretrained model. In this work, we propose AtomSteer, a test-time inference framework for steering pretrained atomistic generative models with structural constraints. During sampling, AtomSteer corrects intermediate structure predictions with bounded local projections, graph-rigid stereochemical transformations, and projections over periodic symmetries, accepting updates that improve constraint satisfaction while limiting changes to the rest of the structure. We demonstrate AtomSteer across three pretrained backbones, FlowMM, ET-Flow, and Boltz-2, spanning de novo crystal generation and crystal structure prediction, molecular conformer generation, and protein-ligand complex structure prediction. AtomSteer improves space-group distribution coverage in de novo crystal generation and improves target space-group recovery in crystal structure prediction. AtomSteer improves molecular validity and E/Z stereochemical accuracy while retaining conformer ensemble fidelity. For protein-ligand complexes, AtomSteer reduces ligand E/Z errors relative to experimental reference structures while achieving competitive docking success and PoseBusters validity. Our method provides a unified framework for adding chemical and crystallographic control to existing atomistic generative models without retraining or architectural changes.

The Power Watershed as a Differentiable Segmentation Layer

Galia Akl, Laurent Najman, Hugues Talbot

原文摘要

Can a Watershed transform, the classical tool of morphological segmentation, be placed at the end of a deep network and trained through? The Power Watershed (PW) is the limit of the seeded Random Walker (RW) as p grows to infinity with edge weights raised to the power p. At every finite p the RW solves a sparse positive-definite linear system and is exactly differentiable with respect to the edge weights and the unaries through one adjoint solve; its multi-label form costs one right-hand side per label, and its limit is the PW. We study this family as the last layer of a segmentation network, the watershed layer (WS layer). A conditioning study measures how the solve, the gradient and the distance to the limit evolve with p, and the implicit gradient is checked against unrolling. On synthetic data with correct edge costs the WS layer transforms a soft prediction into an exact boundary. On nuclei segmentation (PanNuke), a binary WS layer is level with a thresholded U-Net. With the instances as labels, the WS layer turns the U-Net into an instance segmenter whose number of labels is set per image by the markers rather than by the output layout, and the network is trained through that partition: instance F1 score rises from 0.656 to 0.795 over a U-Net with connected components, level with the same network followed by a tuned marker watershed. At the training temperature the partition is a watershed of the learned costs, and the finite temperature lets the solve hedge, discounting weak markers and sharing contested pixels. The hedging puts the WS layer 0.015--0.020 F1 ahead of the baseline when trained on a tenth of the data, at the price of having to deploy the finite-p solve rather than its exact limit at inference. Code and the full experimental record are released.

Conditional Memory Enhanced Item Representation for Generative Recommendation

Ziwei Liu, Yejing Wang, Shengyu Zhou, Xinhang Li, Xiangyu Zhao

原文摘要

Generative recommendation (GR) has emerged as a promising paradigm that predicts target items by autoregressively generating their semantic identifiers (SID). Most GR methods follow a quantization-representation-generation pipeline. While most research focuses on quantization and generation, the representation that bridges the two remains underexplored. Existing representation constructions mainly take two forms: either directly flattening the SID code embeddings into a sequence or merging them into a compact vector via external networks. While effective, they still expose two practical challenges: \textbf{1) Loss of item semantics:} Information lost by quantization or compression needs to be recovered during the representation stage. \textbf{2) Insufficient modeling of structured SID relations:} Intra-item code composition patterns and inter-item prefix-transition patterns are not explicitly preserved for representation and subsequent SID generation. To overcome these challenges, we propose \textbf{ComeIR}, a \textbf{\uline{Co}}nditional \textbf{\uline{me}}mory Enhanced \textbf{\uline{I}}tem \textbf{\uline{R}}epresentation framework that reconstructs SID code embeddings into item-aware inputs and preserves structured SID evidence for prediction. Item-guided Token Scoring estimates the contribution of each SID code using the item embedding employed by the quantizer. Dual-level Conditional Memory captures intra-item prefix composition and inter-item prefix transitions, while Memory Merge integrates these signals into each historical item representation. The Memory-restoring Prediction Head further conditions SID-level prediction on the generated prefix and historical transition evidence. Extensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness and flexibility of ComeIR, and further reveal scalable gains from enlarging conditional memory.

A Utility-Mining-Driven Active Learning Approach for Analyzing Clickstream Sequences

Danny Y. C. Wang, Lars Arne Jordanger, Jerry Chun-Wei Lin

原文摘要

In rapidly evolving e-commerce industry, the capability of selecting high-quality data for model training is essential. This study introduces the High-Utility Sequential Pattern Mining using SHAP values (HUSPM-SHAP) model, a utility mining-based active learning strategy to tackle this challenge. We found that the parameter settings for positive and negative SHAP values impact the model's mining outcomes, introducing a key consideration into the active learning framework. Through extensive experiments aimed at predicting behaviors that do lead to purchases or not, the designed HUSPM-SHAP model demonstrates its superiority across diverse scenarios. The model's ability to mitigate labeling needs while maintaining high predictive performance is highlighted. Our findings demonstrate the model's capability to refine e-commerce data processing, steering towards more streamlined, cost-effective prediction modeling.

Beyond Questions: Evaluating the Stated Knowledge of LLMs

Luca Giordano, Simon Razniewski

原文摘要

Parametric knowledge in large language models (LLMs) is a cornerstone of their success, yet remains poorly understood. Existing knowledge benchmarks typically rely on predefined questions (e.g., "What is the birth date of M.L. King?"), evaluating only knowledge that benchmark designers explicitly choose to query, a problematic availability bias. In this paper, we introduce open knowledge evaluation, a new paradigm for benchmarking the stated knowledge of LLMs. Instead of asking narrow questions, it evaluates models on the knowledge they choose to surface in response to open-ended elicitation prompts (e.g., "Tell me everything you know about M.L. King"). This shifts the focus from predefined answer retrieval toward characterizing the knowledge models naturally express. We instantiate this paradigm with BeQu (Beyond Questions), a benchmark of 10,000 entities paired with reference corpora for statement verification. Using BeQu, we evaluate a broad range of language models and analyze the effects of reasoning effort, model scale, prompt format, and knowledge domain. Data and leaderboard are available on this work's GitHub repository and at bequ.scads.ai, the benchmark website.

Generative Interactions: Weaving Multiparty Human Motion with Bilevel Latent Dynamics

Ojas Shirekar, Yash Surange, Augustinas Jučas, Chirag Raman

原文摘要

Human social behaviour is not a collection of independent motions, but a jointly organised process in which group dynamics and individual variation continuously shape one another. Yet existing social motion models often prioritise plausible trajectories while leaving interaction state implicit, limiting their ability to transfer across groups, tasks, and partial-observation regimes. To address this gap, we introduce Bilevel Representations for Agent Interaction Dynamics (BRAID), a hierarchical sequential latent-variable model for generative multi-person interaction. BRAID explicitly formulates social motion generation as a meta-transfer learning problem: shared interaction priors are learned across datasets and adapted through arbitrary context sets of observed people and joints. The model represents each scene through a group-level latent state that captures shared interaction dynamics and person-level latent states that capture individual behaviour conditioned on the evolving group context. This modelling choice enables coherent generation under full, sparse, or partial observations while exposing compact social-state vectors that can serve as an interface for downstream embodied-agent systems. We evaluate BRAID under a unified SMPL-based representation on social forecasting, tracking and in-filling, and response generation, using metrics that assess not only reconstruction accuracy but also realism, diversity, temporal alignment, and interpersonal coordination. We further analyse the hierarchical latent space, showing that it captures separable group- and individual-level structure.

Force-Driven Hook Disassembly via Constraint-Aware Object-Centric Reinforcement Learning

Nadeen Elhadad, Takuya Kiyokawa, Kensuke Harada

原文摘要

The growing volume of end-of-life products has intensified the need for automated disassembly, yet hook-type connections remain challengin: their orientations vary, they deform under load, and their geometry is hidden, so vision alone cannot identify a feasible non-destructive disassembly direction. This work proposes a constraint-aware reinforcement learning framework that infers feasible extraction directions online from contact forces. The policy is trained in a robot-agnostic, object-centric simulation on a simplified peg-in-hole pair and deployed zero-shot on a physical robot, where it transfers to real connections with unseen, multi-stage constraint structures. Because instantaneous contact forces are noisy and locally ambiguous, the policy is coupled with a particle filter belief that provides the policy with temporally integrated directional information and reduces redundant exploratory motion. The approach is validated on four real-world tasks, from peg-in-hole pairs to the inner propeller and front cover of an end-of-life air-conditioning unit. The full method achieves success rates of 100%, 100%, 90%, and 75% with the highest path efficiency on every task, and raises the success rate on the air-conditioning cover from 45% to 75% relative to a policy trained without the belief. These results indicate that force-driven reinforcement learning can enable disassembly without product-specific models or demonstrations.

Similar Scores, Opposite Failures: Human Correction as an Instrument for Video Caption Evaluation

Ankit Khedia, Astitva Jaiswal, Chaitanya Prasad, Anisha Raju, Aangeeras

原文摘要

Video captioning models are increasingly evaluated with metrics designed for single-sentence image captions. We test whether those metrics recover human judgement on dense, multi-window video description, and find that they do not. Six frontier models captioned 196 short clips. Trained annotators post-edited every caption against a failure taxonomy fixed before annotation, once as a whole-clip overview and once window by window, and a quality-control reviewer checked each annotation, yielding 1,144 overview verdicts and 4,672 window verdicts. Reference-overlap metrics do not separate the captions reviewers accepted from those they rejected: BLEU-4 reaches an AUC of 0.510 and a CIDEr-style tf-idf cosine 0.528, and restricting references to reviewer corrections leaves BLEU-4 at 0.479 (95% CI 0.431-0.529), indistinguishable from chance. Review granularity changes what is detected. The same annotators record camera and shot errors on 2.7% of captions when reading the overview and on 12.8% when reading window by window, a 4.7x gap that holds across every robustness check we ran, on the mode most likely to need a near-total rewrite. Correct-overview rates span 54.1-72.7%, but only 4 of 15 pairwise gaps survive Bonferroni correction (5 after adjusting for reviewer and clip effects), and accuracy and derived severity order the models differently. Models with statistically indistinguishable accuracy have sharply different failure profiles, which no single scalar shows. We argue that caption evaluation should record what was wrong rather than only how often, and we report the taxonomy, the per-model profiles, the corpus properties that predict difficulty, and the code that regenerates every number in the paper.

Leaving the Cave by Breaking the Symmetry: Identifiable Structure Can Enable Cross-Lingual Generalization

Frederick Riemenschneider, Anette Frank

原文摘要

Why do multilingual language models generalize across languages even without shared vocabulary? The Platonic Representation Hypothesis posits that models trained on different data, objectives, and modalities converge toward a shared statistical model of reality. Extending this intuition to representations inside a single multilingual model, we propose the Relational Identifiability Hypothesis: relations in a shared world can promote entity alignment by ruling out alternative cross-lingual correspondences, making corresponding entities more likely to become directly readable without an additional transformation. We test this hypothesis in a controlled bilingual Transformer whose two token-disjoint languages describe the same modular-arithmetic world. We find that the languages can develop a shared answer subspace without aligning corresponding numbers. Cross-lingual alignment emerges selectively when the available relations constrain number correspondences: subtraction makes zero task-level identifiable, inducing selective alignment, while an order-sensitive operation produces broad alignment across numbers. These patterns predict success in zero-shot cross-lingual transfer. Together, our results show that relational structure in a shared world can promote entity alignment and enable transfer.

SaiVLA-JEPA: Evaluating Future Latent Prediction in JEPA-Conditioned VLA Control

Rufeng Xiao, Ruihao Xiao, Wei Chen, Xinhai Sun

原文摘要

Joint-embedding predictive architectures (JEPAs) learn to predict representations rather than pixels, offering a compact way to model how visual scenes evolve. We ask whether this predictive objective improves closed-loop control when a vision-language-action (VLA) policy already uses V-JEPA features. We call our JEPA-conditioned flow policy family SaiVLA-JEPA. It combines a vision-language model with a diffusion transformer action expert and receives features from a frozen V-JEPA encoder. Two lightweight auxiliary heads predict future representations during training and are omitted at inference, leaving the action sampler unchanged. We compare policies without JEPA features, with current JEPA conditioning, and with additional future supervision on 10,030 paired LIBERO-Plus episodes. Current JEPA conditioning reaches about 82.5% success versus 71.6% without JEPA, while future supervision provides no detectable aggregate gain at the evaluated training budget. We separately evaluate SaiVLA-JEPA-TCA, which adapts latent context, and SaiVLA-JEPA-TPA, which adapts selected parameters. The context-retry gain is a system-level result under a larger attempt budget; parameter adaptation shows no consistent advantage over the frozen policy and target controls. These results motivate assessing latent-prediction objectives through paired closed-loop rollouts rather than latent loss alone.

UnMixMamba: Unmixing Guided State Space Subpixel Mapping of Crops from MODIS Time Series

Motasem Alkayid, Yimin Zhu, Naser El-Sheimy, Lincoln Linlin Xu

原文摘要

Subpixel mapping (SPM) of crop types from \SI{250}{m} Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) time series to field-scale Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) labels supports acreage estimation and agricultural monitoring. Three difficulties remain: (i)~spectral-temporal coupling and mixed pixels that break direct coarse-to-fine classifiers; (ii)~intra-class endmember variability that a single spectrum per crop cannot capture; and (iii)~uniform refinement on the high-resolution (HR) grid, which treats every subpixel the same, so most of the effort goes to easy pixels while errors remain in the minority class. UnMixMamba addresses them as follows. For~(i), a temporal-spectral-spatial decoupled (TSSD) factorization estimates simplex fractions and drives AAFC classification from the same mixture field, instead of mapping low-resolution (LR) observations directly to HR logits. For~(ii), \(\times 8\) abundance super-resolution and a learnable per-crop variant endmember bank reconstruct the MODIS cube at LR and HR under a linear mixing model. For~(iii), the predicted crop fractions decide where a fixed Mamba token budget is spent, so HR refinement focuses on the minority class instead of the full grid. On Alberta 2015 under a fixed spatial-block protocol, UnMixMamba reaches OA 0.8397, mIoU 0.6640, AA 0.7837, and Kappa 0.7715, ahead of ST-DRes, ESPCN, FineCrop, AgriFM, and classical SPM baselines. The task is closed-set four-crop mapping inside a known agricultural mask.

6G Reasoning Agent Societies: Composition, Scaling, and Consistency-Time Laws

原文摘要

Emerging 6G control planes would compose Large Language Model (LLM) agents that exchange interpreted conclusions, so hallucinations can propagate even over error-free transport. Recent architectures audit each message locally against the sender's observation mask, but isolated audits miss collective behavior. Modeling the agent society as a cellular sheaf, we establish three laws valid on arbitrary topologies. First, the composition law: network-wide divergence exceeds the sum of per-agent audit scores by exactly their hidden total correlation. This blind spot masks up to 23% of joint divergence and, because the declared signal cancels in the cognitive signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), overstates it by $1.14$ dB purely through topology; the resulting trust inflation preserves valid consensus states but slows convergence. Second, the scaling law: reconciliation decouples across metric counters, so the worst-connected dimension sets the pace. Consistency time grows for a society size $n$ as $Ω(n^{2/d})$ on polynomial-growth topologies of degree $d$, and paths breach a $1$ s near-real-time budget at $n^\ast=13$ agents, whereas expanders ($Θ(1)$) and radius-3 local audits ($O(1)$, $\approx300$ ms) stay bounded. Third, the consistency-time law: the timing error from omitted correlations is one-sided and capped by the worst-measured link. These laws, validated on simulated topologies and deployed LLM societies, give provable worst-case latency ceilings for near-real-time operation.

FeatLens: Feature-Guided Dependency Retrieval for Repository-Level Code Generation

Xutian Li, Bo Xiong, Yifeng Zhu, Runbang Yan, Yanzhen Zou, Lu Zhang, Bing Xie

原文摘要

Retrieving task-relevant code dependencies is critical for repository-level code generation. Existing approaches obtain dependency context through similarity-based retrieval, repository graphs, or LLM-driven exploration. A central challenge is to identify the dispersed dependencies needed to implement a functional requirement, rather than merely retrieve broadly related code. This paper presents FeatLens, a feature-guided dependency retrieval approach for repository-level code generation. FeatLens first builds an offline index linking natural-language feature descriptions to function-level code entities. Given a task requirement and target function location, it selects relevant features and constructs dependency seeds. It then expands the seed graph and applies semantic and structural heuristics to select dependencies for inclusion in the generation context. Experiments on DevEval and EvoCodeBench show that FeatLens achieves the highest dependency recall among the evaluated baselines at each fixed retrieval budget, reaching DR@15 values of 0.527 and 0.529, respectively. On DevEval, the retrieved context supports the highest non-oracle Pass@1 with both DeepSeek-V3.2 and GPT-5-mini. These results are obtained without LLM calls in the online dependency retrieval stage.

OmniQuad: a Wheeled-Legged Hybrid Robot with Omnidirectional Wheels

Francesco Iotti, Alok Ranjan, Franco Angelini, Manolo Garabini

原文摘要

Combining wheeled and legged locomotion within a single robotic platform offers the potential to harness the advantages of both systems. The development of such hybrid systems remains an active area of research. While legged robots exhibit remarkable adaptability for traversing uneven and rugged terrains, their relatively low speed limits their practicality in indoor environments. Conversely, wheeled robots demonstrate higher efficiency on flat surfaces but often encounter difficulties when navigating obstacles such as steps. This paper introduces OmniQuad, a novel hybrid robot that integrates mecanum wheels with legged locomotion to exploit the benefits of both modalities. Mecanum wheels provide omnidirectional mobility, enhancing the robot's manoeuvrability by enabling agile movement in confined spaces and the ability to maintain a consistent orientation during task execution. In this work, we first present the design of a custom wheeled-foot featuring mecanum wheels. Subsequently, we describe the complete robot assembly, comprising these wheeled feet and EM-Act actuators. Finally, we detail the control scheme developed to govern the OmniQuad and evaluate its performance through experimental trials conducted in both indoor and outdoor environments.

X2HDR: HDR Image Generation in a Perceptually Uniform Space

Ronghuan Wu, Wanchao Su, Kede Ma, Jing Liao, Rafał K. Mantiuk

原文摘要

High-dynamic-range (HDR) formats and displays are becoming increasingly prevalent, yet state-of-the-art image generators (e.g., Stable Diffusion and FLUX) typically remain limited to low-dynamic-range (LDR) output due to the lack of large-scale HDR training data. In this work, we show that existing pretrained diffusion models can be easily adapted to HDR generation without retraining from scratch. A key challenge is that HDR images are natively represented in linear RGB, whose intensity and color statistics differ substantially from those of sRGB-encoded LDR images. This gap, however, can be effectively bridged by converting HDR inputs into perceptually uniform encodings (e.g., using PU21 or PQ). Empirically, we find that LDR-pretrained variational autoencoders (VAEs) reconstruct PU21-encoded HDR inputs with fidelity comparable to LDR data, whereas linear RGB inputs cause severe degradations. Motivated by this finding, we describe an efficient adaptation strategy that freezes the VAE and finetunes only the denoiser via low-rank adaptation in a perceptually uniform space. This results in a unified computational method that supports both text-to-HDR synthesis and single-image RAW-to-HDR reconstruction. Experiments demonstrate that our perceptually encoded adaptation consistently improves perceptual fidelity, text-image alignment, and effective dynamic range, relative to previous techniques.

Residual Motion Splatting for Continuous Space-Time Video Super-Resolution

Vincent Herfeld, Eva Coupet{é}, Julien Mairal, Jean Ponce

原文摘要

Continuous space-time video super-resolution produces a high-resolution, highframe-rate video from a low-resolution, low-frame-rate one at arbitrary spatial scales and temporal instants. Classical spatial multi-frame super-resolution has shown that detail beyond a single frame's sampling limit can be recovered by aligning complementary observations with sub-pixel precision and accumulating them on a finer grid. Existing learning-based methods largely depart from this principle: some align and fuse frames only at low resolution before regressing a continuous high-resolution representation, while others interpolate each frame to the output resolution before splatting. In both cases, the per-frame samples are resampled before fusion, so their sub-pixel positions are lost before frames are combined. Restoring this principle in a learned continuous model raises two challenges: estimating sub-pixel motion at unobserved times, and handling holes and occlusions when splatting a coarse grid onto a finer one. We address the first by predicting per-pixel continuous trajectories that refine linear optical-flow paths with smooth residual motion, using features integrated over the full video sequence. We address the second by directly splatting consecutive low-resolution features in a learned latent space onto a high-resolution grid at their predicted sub-pixel positions with predicted visibility weights, before a decoder resolves remaining ambiguities. This makes temporal interpolation and multi-frame superresolution a single operation. Our method improves both reconstruction fidelity and perceptual quality on multiple standard benchmarks over the state of the art, while running up to an order of magnitude faster.

Poincaré's Inequality on Sliding-Window Occupation Count Kernels and the Optimal Normalized Spectral-Gap Constant

Yanjin Xiang, Zhihua Zhang

原文摘要

Let $P$ be an irreducible reversible Markov kernel on an $m$-state space $Ω$, and denote its right spectral gap by $\Gap(P) =1-λ_2(P)$. For a stationary trajectory, let $K_t$ be the occupation-count vector of the length-$n$ window beginning at time $t$. The stationary pair $(K_0,K_1)$ defines a reversible projected count kernel $\widetilde P_n$. For each fixed $m\ge2$, define \[ c_m^\star= \inf_{\substack{|Ω|=m,\ P\ \mathrm{irreducible\ and\ reversible} n\ge2}} \frac{n\Gap(\widetilde P_n)}{\Gap(P)}. \] We prove \[ \frac1{1080m}\le c_m^\star\le q_{m-2}, \qquad q_0=\frac14,\quad q_{r+1}=q_r(1-q_r). \] We also show $q_{m-2}=(m+\log m+O(1))^{-1}$, which implies that $c_m^\star=Θ(m^{-1})$. Thus, the reciprocal optimal comparison coefficient $C_m^{\mathrm{opt}}=(c_m^\star)^{-1}$ is of the order $m$. In the two-state case, we determine the exact values $c_2^\star=1/4$ and $C_2^{\mathrm{opt}}=4$. %the exact constants for $m\ge3$ remain open. The lower bound also holds for $n=1$ and is uniform in $P$, including sparse and periodic kernels. The proof combines short-window decorrelation with an averaged anchor-excursion decomposition, a Green-kernel hitting estimate, and a stopped Carleson--Hardy inequality. A nested rare-state construction produces finite $m$-state witnesses whose normalized Rayleigh quotients approach $q_{m-2}$ through an ordered sequence of limits. For every fixed finite irreducible reversible aperiodic kernel on at least two states, $\Gap(\widetilde P_n)=Θ_P(n^{-1})$.

Vision-Based Density Estimation for Adaptive Traffic Control

Mohammad Usaid, Deepak Silaych, Hrithik Mhatre, Archak Mittal

原文摘要

Traffic congestion is becoming a critical challenge in rapidly growing urban centers, particularly in developing nations where rapid urbanization and inadequate transport infrastructure place increasing strain on transport networks. In highly heterogeneous and chaotic traffic flows, camera-based traffic-state estimation is limited by severe vehicle occlusion and overlap. In this paper, we propose a framework to optimize traffic flow directly from stochastic visual observations. The architecture is structurally decoupled into three primary components: (a) vehicle density estimation, (b) predictive dynamics modeling, and (c) policy optimization. The proposed methodology introduces a convolutional neural network (CNN) that learns the mapping from camera feeds to spatial density maps, utilizing an adaptive k-nearest-neighbor (k-NN) Gaussian kernel to handle varying congestion levels. This feeds into an ST3DNet predictive module for spatiotemporal forecasting, followed by a hierarchical Graph-Transformer Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning (MARL) algorithm to optimize signal phases. The density estimation stage was evaluated on 40 annotated intersection images from Rambagh 4, Jaipur, India, with a reported five-fold validation mean absolute error (MAE) of $3.32 \pm 0.95$ vehicles and a mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) of 14.5%. These results pertain to the perception component; empirical training and evaluation of the forecasting and control stages remain future work.

Domain-Specific Self-Supervised Representation Learning for Retinal Fundus Classification

Bekzat Nurlanbekova, Fung Fung Ting

原文摘要

Annotated medical images remain scarce and costly to obtain, which motivates self-supervised learning (SSL). We present a controlled empirical study of two SSL frameworks, SimSiam and SimCLR, for retinal fundus classification, asking whether retina-specific augmentations (Graham's local-mean subtraction and CLAHE) improve representations beyond standard augmentation and grayscale conversion. ResNet-18 backbones are pretrained on 48K unlabeled fundus images and evaluated by linear probing and fine-tuning on EDID (multi-disease) and RetinaMNIST (DR grading). On EDID, grayscale conversion accounts for most of SimSiam's linear-probe gain, and Graham or CLAHE add little on top of it. After fine-tuning, SimSiam with Graham+Gray exceeds an ImageNet-supervised baseline on RetinaMNIST (+3.0 accuracy points) but only matches it on EDID. Retina-specific augmentation therefore helps inconsistently and should be validated per SSL method and task.

RINS: Residual-Image Neural Subspace Solvers for Large Sparse Linear Systems

Zhongyan Ouyang, Weixin Liao, Mingquan Feng, Yehui Tang, Junchi Yan

原文摘要

Neural subspace solvers offer a promising way to accelerate the large sparse linear systems arising from PDE discretizations, but their value depends on generating effective correction directions at low computational overheads. We study this problem from a residual-image viewpoint: a correction subspace is useful when its image under the system operator captures the current residual. Guided by this view, we propose Gate-RINS, which generates multiple correction directions from shared polynomial residual probes and modulates them with a lightweight residual- and coordinate-dependent pointwise gate. We also introduce a hybrid schedule that uses GRANS-style graph controllers for the first correction block and Gate-RINS thereafter, combining an expressive graph based initial step with a lower-cost corrector as the solve progress. Theoretical analysis establishes a unified residual-image and dynamic approximate-inverse perspective for Gate-RINS and G-RANS, showing that a single neural-generated direction can emulate the residual quality of fixed-step GMRES. Numerical experiments on six PDE benchmarks demonstrate that Gate-RINS reaches a relative residual of $10^{-5}$ with 1.6-2.3$\times$ and 2.2-3.0$\times$ less wall-clock time than G-RANS and GMRES respectively. For Helmholtz systems with meshsize up to $10^5$, Gate-RINS also achieves the lowest residual and outperforms a GPU-accelerated parallel GMRES, while GRANS fails to reach relative residual of $10^{-4}$ in the same time budget.

Calibrating Track-Query Updates at Test Time for Multi-Object Tracking

Riku Inoue, Shogo Sato, Yu Mitsuzumi, Kazuhiko Murasaki, Tomoyasu Shimada, Takashi Sano

原文摘要

Multi-Object Tracking (MOT) requires localizing multiple objects and maintaining their identities over time. Recent query-propagation trackers carry target-specific representations across frames and update them with current-frame image features, yet identity association remains difficult when visually similar targets overlap or cross. During such interactions, current-frame query updates may contain components directed toward nearby active tracks, which may affect identity association in later frames. To investigate this issue, we analyze track-query updates preceding identity switches (IDSWs), where the same target is assigned a different track ID. Our analysis shows that (i) propagated track-query representations change more abruptly before IDSWs, (ii) current-frame updates have larger positive projections along directions toward other active tracks, and (iii) bounding-box intersection over union (IoU) retrieves the counterpart track involved in a subsequent IDSW with high recall when that track remains active before the switch. Motivated by these findings, we propose Test-time Track-Query Calibration (TQC), a training-free and gradient-free method for query-propagation trackers. TQC calibrates the tracker output before propagation using a bounded correction estimated from update components directed toward nearby active tracks. It requires only track-query representations and bounding boxes available during inference, without retraining or architectural modification. Across nine DanceTrack and SportsMOT test settings, TQC improves HOTA and AssA in all settings and IDF1 in eight, with an average HOTA gain of +0.38 and limited inference overhead. Controlled variants on six validation settings further show that TQC's correction direction yields more consistent HOTA improvements than alternative directions with matched correction norms.
