原文摘要

Embodied systems can update policies, world models, skills, and executable programs from deployment experience, allowing one interaction to benefit later tasks. When a system also revises and reuses its data-acquisition, feedback, or learning procedures, experience changes the process that produces capability, introducing recursive self-improvement. This paper surveys research in physical AI through the connection between persistent capability and its improvement process. We first explain the functional distinction between learner updates and improvers, then compare policy learning, imagined experience, memory and skill accumulation, and executable harnesses. These approaches connect to revisions of curricula, rewards, and research programs in different ways. Contact validity, recovery, retention, and resource costs determine whether the resulting gains accumulate during continued deployment. An L0-L3 rubric distinguishes task-local adaptation, persistent capability gain, inherited process revision, and verified improver gain. Representative benchmarks and within-study contrasts relate these distinctions to existing results. We further propose common-data and interactive comparisons that evaluate reference and revised improvers from shared learner starts, separating the use of experience from its acquisition. This perspective connects the diverse methods, physical operating conditions, and evaluation evidence, underpinning embodied RSI. Peer-Relative Trust-Guided Update Screening for Robust Semi-Decentralized Federated Learning under Label-Flipping Attacks

Ajay Kumar Shrestha, Sandhya Joshi

原文摘要

Trust and reputation mechanisms can reduce the influence of malicious clients in federated learning (FL), but strict update filtering is difficult under non-independent and identically distributed (non-IID) data because honest local updates may temporarily reduce performance on a shared validation proxy. Extending an earlier trust-based semi-decentralized FL (SDFL) framework, this paper operationalizes the trust signals and introduces peer-relative update screening that combines a robust validation-utility score with direction- and norm-based update quality. The method is evaluated with 50 MNIST clients, 20% persistent label-flip attackers, Dirichlet heterogeneity levels of 0.5 and 0.1, 100 communication rounds, and five paired random seeds. Under moderate heterogeneity, the proposed method reaches 98.37% final accuracy while rejecting 95.82% of malicious updates and retaining 90.30% of benign updates; the final benign and malicious trust distributions are completely separated (KS=1.00). Under severe heterogeneity, it reaches 95.25% accuracy, rejects 88.55% of malicious updates, and retains 76.90% of benign updates (KS=0.96). Trust weighting alone preserves slightly higher utility in the most heterogeneous condition, but accepts all malicious submissions. The results therefore distinguish influence mitigation from explicit containment and quantify the utility-selectivity trade-off introduced by screening. The study provides an empirically validated off-chain governance core that can feed blockchain-based audit and incentive layers in SDFL.

TreemapMix: Dirichlet-Controlled Multi-Image Augmentation for Probability and Ordinal Supervision

Ejafa Bassam, Konstantin Garbers, Yingsheng Geng, Dalton Jens, Jiaxu Qian, Guyue Liu

原文摘要

Data augmentation improves visual recognition by exposing models to synthetic training examples that encourage generalization beyond the observed data. Mixed-sample methods extend this idea by combining multiple images. However, many common approaches either mix only pairs of images or rely on fixed small layouts, limiting control over source count, visible area proportions, and induced supervision. We propose TreemapMix, a distribution-controlled multi-image augmentation that samples source weights from a Dirichlet distribution and assigns them to area-proportional regions using a treemap partition. The resulting known region areas support two complementary objectives. TreemapMix with soft cross-entropy (SCE) treats areas as soft class-probability targets, while TreemapMix with a Plackett-Luce (PL) objective converts areas into ordinal supervision. On ImageNet-1K under matched training recipes, TreemapMix-SCE achieves substantially lower calibration error than evaluated mixed-sample baselines, while TreemapMix-PL achieves the strongest Top-1 accuracy. Transfer experiments on object detection and instance segmentation suggest that TreemapMix-pretrained features remain useful beyond classification. These results show that controlled multi-image composition can expose the same region-area information as either probability-matching or rank-matching supervision. Code is available at https://github.com/Ejafa/treemapmix.

INFRAMIND: Infrastructure-Aware Multi-Agent Orchestration

Ahasan Kabir, Mengxin Zheng, Qian Lou

原文摘要

Multi-agent LLM systems spend additional computation on reasoning and collaboration, but shared serving queues can prevent that computation from producing answers before a deadline. This creates a coupled decision: the reasoning workflow determines the load, while changing load determines which reasoning choices remain affordable. We introduce INFRAMIND, a hierarchical policy that adapts workflow planning and execution to serving conditions. At arrival, a planner selects the collaboration graph using task information, load and the time budget. Before each agent call, an executor jointly selects the model and reasoning strategy using refreshed telemetry and remaining time. A shared latency penalty connects the two policies. Our analysis characterizes why observing load matters when congestion reverses the preferred computation. Across five benchmarks on a shared five-model deployment, INFRAMIND improves low-load accuracy by up to 7.6 percentage points over the strongest evaluated baseline. On 500 MATH questions with matched EDF scheduling and per-request deadlines of 10-300 s, it increases correct, on-time answers from 20.4% to 33.8%. With 15 models and Azure timings replayed on the same benchmark and deadline tiers, this fraction rises from 11.6% to 54.8% over MasRouter. These results support adapting reasoning decisions to the serving capacity available throughout a workflow.

Rosemary: Efficient and Adaptable In-Storage Acceleration for Fully Homomorphic Encryption

Xuan Wang, Tianqi Zhang, Gabrielle De Micheli, Yujin Nam, Keming Fan, Augusto Vega, Minxuan Zhou, Tajana Rosing

原文摘要

Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE) enables computation on encrypted data and is promising for privacy-preserving computing. However, FHE deployment remains constrained due to massive computational, memory, and data-movement overheads. Existing acceleration strategies often overlook the storage I/O bottleneck caused by the enormous size of FHE data in large-scale applications, as most prior works focus on small benchmarks that fit in main memory. Our studies show that state-of-the-art FHE systems spend 71\% to 85\% of their execution time moving data between storage and compute units rather than performing useful computation. To address the I/O bottleneck, we present Rosemary, a heterogeneous FHE acceleration system that incorporates a novel in-storage processing (ISP) architecture with compiler-level and algorithmic optimizations. Our key innovations include 1) an adaptable hardware-aware FHE engine inside a NAND flash-based solid-state drive (SSD) for efficient and cost-effective in-storage FHE processing, 2) a Throughput-Data-Aware Program Allocator (TDAP) that partitions FHE workloads into heterogeneous programs, and 3) a Compiler-Level Ciphertext-Aware Optimizer (CLCAO) that exploits ISP-friendly FHE kernels for low-cost ISP execution. Across a diverse set of FHE workloads, including encrypted deep learning inference and cloud database queries, Rosemary achieves geometric-mean speedups of $185.7\times$ over state-of-the-art CPU/GPU implementations and $3.7\times$ over prior FHE accelerators, while improving energy efficiency by up to $3.9\times$ and Energy-Delay-Area-Product (EDAP) by up to $16.5\times$.

A Provably Convergent and Practical Algorithm for Gromov--Wasserstein Optimal Transport

Ling Liang, Lei Yang

原文摘要

Gromov--Wasserstein optimal transport (GWOT) aligns metric measure spaces by matching their within-domain relational structures, but large-scale GWOT remains challenging because its objective is nonconvex and projection onto the transport polytope is often solved only approximately in practice. This leads to a gap between practical projected-gradient implementations and convergence theory, which typically assumes exact projections. For squared-loss GWOT, we propose an inexact projected-gradient framework with a verifiable feasibility-residual-based inexact condition for the projection subproblem. This condition is directly computable and avoids unknown quantities such as the exact projection point. Under this implementable condition, we prove subsequential convergence to stationary points and, with a mild tolerance-decay condition, convergence of the whole sequence. The resulting method retains the simplicity and sparsity of projected-gradient schemes while providing rigorous convergence guarantees, turning projected-gradient methods into a principled and scalable approach for GWOT with provable reliability.

ETA-Motion: Efficient Topology-Agnostic Motion Diffusion via Sparse Joint Learning

Seoyoung Hwang, Tae-Kyun Kim

原文摘要

Topology-agnostic motion generation aims to synthesize motions for diverse characters with arbitrary skeletons. Unlike conventional motion generation, which assumes a fixed skeletal template, this setting must handle diverse joint configurations and inconsistent joint semantics across characters. Existing methods address this challenge through dense full-joint modeling, which incurs substantial computational cost and hinders learning transferable motion patterns across diverse skeletal topologies. We present ETA-Motion, a topology-agnostic motion generation framework based on sparse joint learning. Instead of learning motion from all joints, our method uses a compact subset of joints to reduce redundancy and trains the motion generator on the resulting sparse skeleton. To facilitate correspondence across diverse topologies, we introduce semantic joint embeddings that combine textual and visual cues, together with topology-aware training objectives for preserving skeletal structure. Although ETA-Motion is trained only on sparse skeletal observations, it supports full-skeleton motion generation during inference. Experimental results demonstrate that ETA-Motion outperforms existing topology-agnostic baselines while significantly improving efficiency and generalization to unseen motions and unseen topologies.

From Video to Vision: Learning Generalizable Humanoid Carrying from Human Motion

Jianming Lu, Ziluo Ding, Zhen Zhao, Shuyang Jin, Han Wen, Xinrun Xu, Zhiyuan Xu

原文摘要

Most existing approaches rely on video or motion-capture data for reinforcement learning (RL) training; however, all of these methods require an upper-level module to generate reference trajectories in real time. In object carrying tasks, the humanoid can only lift objects from designated locations along the reference trajectory, resulting in poor spatial generalization. Moreover, existing policies can only be evaluated inside a motion-capture studio. To address these limitations, we propose \textbf{MOVER}, a multi-stage, Teacher-Assistant-Student, RL training framework for humanoid object carrying. We first collect data from videos and employ GENMO and GMR to retarget the video data, combining this with data augmentation techniques to generalize the data across objects of varying shapes and sizes. In the \textbf{first stage}, building upon the DeepMimic \cite{peng2018deepmimic} motion-training framework, we train the humanoid to transport objects from specified locations along designated trajectories. In the \textbf{second stage}, we relax the tracking of the reference motion and adjust the reward so that the humanoid learns to transport objects from different positions. In the \textbf{third stage}, we apply a Dagger-PPO distillation method to distill away the proprioceptive position observations and reference joint position of the humanoid. This allows the deployed policy to operate without relying on global position information from a motion-capture system; instead, the humanoid can directly perceive the object's pose from its onboard RGB-D camera to complete the carrying task. We design a series of simulation experiments to compare the success rates across stages (Stages 1 vs. 2) and before versus after distillation. We further transfer the policy to a real humanoid, successfully transporting objects at varying positions in a motion-capture-free setting.

Hedge-Bench: Can Agents Reason Their Way to Better Predictions?

Mahesh Ramesh, Eric Cho, Alice Lu, Shawn Huang, Baiqing Lyu

原文摘要

Modern AI agents are increasingly capable of routine financial-analysis tasks such as retrieving documents and updating spreadsheets. A harder challenge is forecasting an unknown future from incomplete information. Public markets provide a natural testbed: analysts routinely predict discrete events with information from that point in time. We present Hedge-Bench, a benchmark of 92 real-world environments derived from hedge fund analysts' reasoning traces paired with subsequently resolved prediction questions. Agents reason from frozen information snapshots, and their forecasts are evaluated against real-world outcomes. Across 11 frontier models and three trials per environment, joint success rates, which require both a correct forecast and over 60% research coverage, range from 2.54 to 31.52%. Using GRPO with turn-level credit assignment, we train Muse-Glimmer on 165 environments, increasing coverage on 22 held-out environments from 17.17% to 33.36% at low reasoning effort and from 30.19% to 47.02% at extra-high effort. The trained model at low effort also exceeds the base model's extra-high-effort coverage while using 47.9% fewer tokens. We also observe evidence of generalization: held-out forecasting accuracy at high effort improves by 10.06 percentage points, while out-of-distribution evaluation scores improve by 3.94 points on GDPval, 2.29 on GDP_pdf, 7.07 on Harvey LAB, and 4.96 on Frontier Finance under their respective metrics. ParaTTT: Parallelizing Test-Time Training Layers with Deep Memories

Noel Loo, Neehal Tumma, T. Konstantin Rusch, Mathias Lechner, Alexander Amini, Daniela Rus

原文摘要

Test-time training (TTT) layers replace the linear fast-weight memory of modern recurrent architectures with a small neural network trained online by gradient descent. This nonlinear memory is more expressive than the linear memories of Gated DeltaNet and Mamba-2, but is difficult to parallelize: existing implementations such as TTT-MLP rely on sequential, block-wise weight updates that run several times slower than chunkwise-parallel linear recurrences. Moreover, their block-wise execution only approximates the token-by-token online recurrence, whereas linear recurrences admit an exact chunkwise-parallel evaluation. We introduce ParaTTT (PTTT), an algorithm for parallelizing arbitrarily deep nonlinear memories by iteratively refining estimates of the inner-loop gradient trajectory. Starting from a guess of the hidden-layer gradients, each refinement consists of three chunkwise-parallel passes: a forward pass that evaluates the resulting feature trajectory, an exact gated-delta-rule pass that computes the readout trajectory and its feature gradients, and a backward pass that propagates these gradients into a new estimate. The exact online gradient descent recurrence is a fixed point of the iteration, while decoding requires no refinement iterations. We prove geometric convergence for a two-layer variant under sufficient contraction conditions. In practice, two iterations suffice. With two refinement steps at 4K context, PTTT evaluates the inner-loop trajectory $32\times$ faster than TTT-MLP with the block approximation at matched error, while the full 340M model trains $4.9\times$ faster. Models trained at 340M and 1.3B parameters match or exceed Gated DeltaNet and Mamba-2 and remain competitive with same-size Transformers on language-modeling perplexity and zero-shot accuracy, with better recall than the linear recurrences.

Transportable Offline Reinforcement Learning in Presence of Unmeasured Confounding

Junyi Liao, Hangqi Ren, Zhuoran Yang

原文摘要

Offline reinforcement learning seeks to learn decision policies from previously collected data, but deployment environments may differ from the domains in which the data were collected, and logged variables may omit confounders that affected both historical actions and outcomes. We study offline policy learning under the joint challenges of domain discrepancy and unmeasured confounding, where multiple heterogeneous source datasets provide complementary information about a target domain. We develop a causally adjusted transportability framework combining transportability theory with instrumental variables, negative controls, and proxies to identify target-domain causal quantities. For confounded contextual bandits, identification reduces to systems of bridge-function integral equations, enabling minimax estimation from finite samples. Confidence sets for the identified quantities are then used for pessimistic policy optimization, yielding CAT-CCB. We extend the framework to episodic confounded Markov decision processes, where complementary sources identify target reward and transition mechanisms under structural and completeness conditions. Under Gaussian dynamics and linear function approximation, this yields CAT-CMDP. We establish high-probability finite-sample suboptimality guarantees that quantify the effects of approximation, estimation, source-to-target shift, offline coverage, and sample size. For bounded finite-dimensional linear classes, the contextual-bandit guarantee recovers the standard $\widetilde{\mathcal O}(N^{-1/2})$ rate. Numerical experiments support the effectiveness of the framework for learning target-domain policies from heterogeneous confounded data. Together, the results provide a principled approach when no single source dataset suffices for causal identification and policy optimization.

A Tutorial on Generative Models for Music Audio

Mateusz Modrzejewski, Joanna Kurkowska, Dorien Herremans

原文摘要

Music audio generation spans instrumental clips, full songs with vocals, edits of existing recordings, and systems that play alongside a musician in real time. This monograph explains the methods behind these systems for readers familiar with neural-network training who are new to music generation. It introduces neural audio codecs and autoencoders, autoregressive and masked token models, diffusion and flow matching, sampling acceleration, and preference optimization in a shared notation. Worked examples connect training objectives and sampling procedures to published systems. The application sections relate the musical requirements of instrumental generation, songs, editing, and live performance to model design. Comparison tables record representations, methods, inputs, tasks, and release information documented in papers and official sources. Symbolic composition, speech, and sound effects are included where they connect to music audio. We explain how to interpret automatic metrics and learned judges, design and report listening tests, and assess evidence about data provenance, memorization, attribution, and output detection. Selected legal decisions and disputes illustrate the implications for training and release. The reviewed systems combine established generative paradigms with new representations, planning stages, and post-training procedures. Differences in data, scale, and evaluation limit what cross-system comparisons can establish about the sources of reported gains.

MATCH: Execution-Aware Hierarchical Reinforcement Learning for Vision-and-Language Navigation in Continuous Environment

Shuhao Ye, Yufei Wei, Demao Wang, Shichao Zhai, Rong Xiong, Yue Wang

原文摘要

Vision-and-Language Navigation in Continuous Environments (VLN-CE) requires instruction-consistent planning and reliable execution under collision constraints. Yet many hierarchical approaches optimize the planner while keeping execution fixed. We introduce MATCH, a framework that jointly learns a language-conditioned planner and a goal-conditioned primitive-action executor. An execution-aware topological graph represents start-dependent execution options and integrates executor value estimates with realized outcome memory, enabling the planner to select execution requests and refine their targets through bounded continuous offsets. A transition-aware dense macro reward balances ordered progress along the reference route against execution residual, encouraging executable requests without substituting local success for instruction following. A staged curriculum culminates in synchronized on-policy updates, with the executor learning on planner-generated requests and the planner adapting its requests to the executor's current behavior. With 0.5B parameters, MATCH achieves state-of-the-art performance on the R2R-CE and RxR-CE benchmarks. Preliminary real-robot deployments further demonstrate its practical potential.

Verification-Guided Retrosynthesis: Reaction Feedback and Evidence Timing

Hongxuan Shi, Hankz Hankui Zhuo

原文摘要

Retrosynthesis planning seeks synthesis routes from purchasable starting materials to a target molecule. Search over predicted reactions can connect a target to available materials, yet an infeasible reaction can invalidate the resulting route. Evaluating route quality only after search has finished cannot correct errors made during search. We introduce Verification-Guided Reflow (VGR), incorporating reaction verification as a decision action in AND/OR search. Verification results are represented as binary verdicts; queries are scheduled from the search structure, and acquired verdicts exclude reactions or adjust search priorities. We define verified solvability as the fraction of targets for which a complete route accepted stepwise by the verifier is found. On Retro190, feeding verification results into search increases verified solvability from 51.1% to 62.6% relative to route evaluation without feedback. Further controlled experiments show that earlier verification and immediate prioritization of accepted reactions each improve route discovery, yet combining them performs worse than either change alone. We therefore propose early pruning and delayed guidance: rejected reactions are pruned immediately, while accepted reactions gain search priority when processed as part of a complete candidate route. In a separate comparison with the verification scheduling rule fixed, this strategy increases verified solvability from 61.1% with immediate guidance to 71.1%, using fewer proposal calls and unique verifier queries.

Precedent or Intent? What Coding Agents Follow When Evolving Existing Code

Haichao Zhu, Geyang Xu, Zhaorui Yang, Jiyuan Wang, Qian Zhang

原文摘要

Existing code reveals past implementation decisions but rarely explains the reasoning behind them. When coding agents implement new features or modify existing functionality, past decisions may conflict with new task instructions. This raises a fundamental question for agentic software evolution: when multiple implementations satisfy the same functional requirements, how do coding agents decide whether to follow existing code or new task instructions? We investigate this question through bidirectional, controlled experiments in purpose-built repositories, followed by validation in real-world open-source repositories. Our approach isolates three competing sources of guidance: (1) agents' default preferences, (2) repository precedents, and (3) explicit task instructions. We conduct 5,625 trials across four coding agents and six implementation pairs, with validation in four open-source repositories spanning three programming languages. We find that agents share the same default implementation choices, yet overwhelmingly follow repository precedent when it conflicts with those defaults (359/360 trials). Crucially, not all precedents carry equal influence: three supporting local files yield 96% adoption, compared with only 4% for sibling-resource files, and changing file placement alone can shift adoption from 0% to 100% at a fixed example count. When new task intent conflicts with existing code, written priority rules achieve substantially higher success than code examples alone (59/60 versus 38/60 joint successes for two agents on two implementation pairs). The effectiveness of explicit rules also extends to open-source repositories, where a harness-loaded rule raises joint success from 0/120 to 117/120. These findings motivate design-decision traceability that preserves not only implementation choices but also the rationale and priorities that should guide future changes.

Nearly Minimax Optimal Regret for Adversarial Linear Bandits with Strong Corruptions

Qiwei Di, Quanquan Gu

原文摘要

We study adversarial linear bandits with strong corruption, in which an adaptive adversary chooses the reward vectors and a strong adversary corrupts each observed reward after seeing the learner's action, subject to a known total corruption budget $C$. Strong corruption breaks the importance-weighted reward estimates used by adversarial bandit algorithms: by corrupting only the rounds in which a rarely sampled action is drawn, the adversary amplifies each unit of corruption by the inverse of its sampling probability. The best known bound for this problem, $\tilde O(\sqrt{d^3T} + dC)$ by Liu et al. (2024), is a factor $\sqrt{d}$ above the corruption-free rate in its leading term, and whether $\tilde O(d\sqrt{T} + dC)$ regret is achievable was left open. We propose CRW-FTRL, which runs follow-the-regularized-leader with a radius-weighted entropy regularizer and estimates rewards with a normalized kernel estimator whose sensitivity to corruption is governed by per-action radii instead of inverse sampling probabilities. The radii are nondecreasing and are chosen jointly with the sampling distribution through a monotone log-determinant barrier problem, so that a negative linear term in the regularizer cancels both the corruption bias and the estimation error of every comparator. For $K$ actions in $\mathbb{R}^d$, CRW-FTRL achieves $\tilde O(\sqrt{dT\log K} + dC)$ regret with high probability against an adaptive adversary, which matches the best known corruption-free rate and the $Ω(dC)$ lower bound up to logarithmic factors. Applied to a discretization of a general compact action set, it yields $\tilde O(d\sqrt{T} + dC)$ regret, which settles the statistical rate of corrupted adversarial linear bandits under strong corruption.

Observational Equivalence of LLM and Human Annotation

Kentaro Nakamura, Jing Ling Tan, George Yean

原文摘要

In this paper, we show that humans and large language models (LLMs) are observationally equivalent in coding texts. Recent LLMs agree with attentive humans at rates comparable to those observed among humans, and cross-LLM disagreement concentrates on texts that also divide humans. We demonstrate these patterns through replications of text-classification tasks from 14 peer-reviewed political science studies, with 13 LLMs, three human coders (Ph.D. students), and 165 crowd coders, independently applying identical codebooks. We further find that clarifying an underspecified codebook increases agreement among humans and between humans and LLMs. Together, these findings point to ambiguity in texts and coding rules as a shared source of disagreement and challenge the presumption that human labels should take precedence whenever humans and LLMs differ. We therefore argue that the central challenge of text annotation is not simply choosing between humans and LLMs, but developing coding rules that minimize ambiguity and accounting for the ambiguity that remains. To this end, we propose using cross-LLM disagreement to identify difficult cases, guide human review, and refine codebooks, and we develop ambiguity-aware bounds for downstream inference without requiring ground truth for every text.

Sandwich Reasoning: An Answer-Reasoning-Answer Approach for Low-Latency Query Correction

Chen Zhang, Kepu Zhang, Jiatong Zhang, Xiao Zhang, Jun Xu

原文摘要

Query correction is a critical entry point in modern search pipelines, demanding high accuracy strictly within real-time latency constraints. Chain-of-Thought (CoT) reasoning improves accuracy but incurs prohibitive latency for real-time query correction. A potential solution is to output an answer before reasoning to reduce latency; however, under autoregressive decoding, the early answer is independent of subsequent reasoning, preventing the model from leveraging its reasoning capability to improve accuracy. To address this issue, we propose Sandwich Reasoning (SandwichR), a novel approach that explicitly aligns a fast initial answer with post-hoc reasoning, enabling low-latency query correction without sacrificing reasoning-aware accuracy. SandwichR follows an Answer-Reasoning-Answer paradigm, producing an initial correction, an explicit reasoning process, and a final refined correction. To align the initial answer with post-reasoning insights, we design a consistency-aware reinforcement learning (RL) strategy: a dedicated consistency reward enforces alignment between the initial and final corrections, while margin-based rejection sampling prioritizes borderline samples where reasoning drives the most impactful corrective gains. Additionally, we construct a high-quality query correction dataset, addressing the lack of specialized benchmarks for complex query correction. Experimental results demonstrate that SandwichR achieves SOTA accuracy comparable to standard CoT while delivering a 40-70% latency reduction, resolving the latency-accuracy trade-off in online search.

MEV: A Multi-Event Video Dataset for Long-Take Generation

Peiyuan Zhu, Shaoan Xie, Yifan Shen, Wen Tian, Zijian Li, Guangyi Chen, Kun Zhang

原文摘要

Current datasets for text-to-video generation are largely limited to short clips depicting a single event or coarse-grained captions. As a result, they provide limited supervision for modeling long-take temporal dependencies, often leading to temporally inconsistent generations when describing multiple events. In this paper, we introduce MEV, a multi-event video dataset designed for long-take video generation. MEV provides high-quality real-world videos where subjects can perform a sequence of distinct, non-overlapping events, featuring precise temporal boundaries and fine-grained procedural annotations. This event-centric discretization reduces confounding factors and enables models to support temporally localized conditioning and build long-take videos from atomic event units. Furthermore, we introduce a comprehensive annotation pipeline that segments videos into temporally grounded events, and generates structured captions at both the global level and the event level. In addition, under an event-centric evaluation protocol, we conduct multi-event generation experiments by fine-tuning on MEV with temporally grounded event conditioning, leading to improved long-take event transitions and more coherent content. We believe this work provides a publicly available resource for multi-event fine-tuning and event-centric evaluation, together with practical insights into learning from temporally structured video-text data.

Value-Rectified Distillation for Flow-based Offline Reinforcement Learning

Ke Jiang, Wen Jiang, Yoshinobu Kawahara, Xiaoyang Tan

原文摘要

We aim to address the problem of Out-of-Distribution (OOD) Mode Averaging, a critical problem that emerges when distilling Flow Matching (FM) based behavior policies in offline Reinforcement Learning (RL): When learning over multi-modal datasets, standard distillation inadvertently forces the policy to interpolate across different behavioral modes, causing the generated actions to collapse into invalid, OOD regions. To resolve this, we propose Value-Rectified Distillation (VRD), a novel framework that reformulates offline policy distillation as a value-guided generative trajectory alignment problem. By employing a dynamic coupling mechanism, VRD actively rectifies flow dynamics to explicitly decouple distinct behavioral modes, cleanly isolating high-value actions. Specifically, we instantiate VRD through two complementary algorithms: VRD-Q, which utilizes value-quantile behavior distillation to statistically filter out low-value behaviors, and VRD-R, which reorganizes the latent space to geometrically isolate high-value generative trajectories from the FM-based behavior policy. Extensive empirical evaluations demonstrate that VRD improves existing generative baselines across diverse continuous control and planning tasks on the D4RL, OGBench, and Minari benchmarks, especially over those multi-modal, non-expert datasets.

The Indian Financial Automated Advice Bias (IFAAB) Dataset : Auditing Socioeconomic and Demographic Disparities in LLM-Generated Financial Advice in India

Kriti Mahajan

原文摘要

Large language models are increasingly used for financial guidance, yet little is known about whether their advice changes across social identities in Global South contexts. We introduce the Indian Financial Automated Advice Bias (IFAAB) benchmark, a counterfactual audit dataset of 31,734 GPT-4o-generated financial-advice responses for synthetic Indian personas varying by gender, caste, education, employment, residence, age, and district. Holding the underlying request fixed, we evaluate disparities in LLM-implied wealth, income, savings, projected gains, textual similarity, advice topics, and qualitative bias judgments. In the gender-only audit, male-labelled profiles receive 60.1\% higher initial total resources and 46.8\% higher post-advice total resources than comparable female-labelled profiles; in the caste-augmented audit, the post-advice total-resource gap remains 49.4\%. Adding district information reduces the aggregate post-advice total-resource gender gap to 7.9\%, revealing strong geographic conditioning. Standalone caste comparisons also show systematic stratification: relative to General-category profiles, OBC, SC, and ST profiles receive significantly lower post-advice total resources, respectively. Textual audits show low semantic similarity between paired gendered responses, with an average TF--IDF cosine similarity score of 0.44. Qualitative analysis shows that women are more often steered toward cautious saving, community support, and basic financial literacy, while men receive more growth-oriented advice involving investment, entrepreneurship, and asset accumulation. IFAAB provides a reusable benchmark for evaluating fairness, suitability, and consumer-protection risks in LLM-mediated financial advice, and highlights the need for locally grounded, intersectional evaluation of AI systems in high-stakes economic domains.

From Legacy Fortran to Portable Kokkos: An Autonomous Agentic AI Workflow

Sparsh Gupta, Kamalavasan Kamalakkannan, Maxim Moraru, Galen Shipman, Patrick Diehl

原文摘要

Scientific applications still rely heavily on legacy Fortran codebases built for homogeneous, CPU-based systems. As High-Performance Computing (HPC) shifts toward GPU-accelerated architectures, many accelerators lack native Fortran bindings, creating a need to translate and optimize legacy code for portability. Kokkos offers performance portability through a single-source C++ abstraction, but manual porting from Fortran demands significant expertise and time. While large language models (LLMs) show promise in source-to-source code generation, their use in autonomous workflows for translating and optimizing parallel code is largely unexplored. This paper presents an agentic AI workflow in which specialized LLM agents collaborate to translate, validate, compile, run, test, debug, and optimize Fortran kernels into portable Kokkos C++ programs without human intervention, bounded by configurable retry and optimization thresholds. We evaluate the pipeline over five runs per configuration on an NVIDIA A100, characterizing its variability in success rates, token cost, and optimization behavior, on benchmark kernels including a real-world multi-file kernel from a production climate model. Proprietary models such as GPT-5 and o4-mini-high completed the full workflow most reliably, producing optimized code that exceeded the Fortran baselines for only a few U.S. dollars, whereas open-weights models such as gpt-oss-120b and Qwen3.5-397B-A17B handled simpler kernels but struggled with complex Kokkos abstractions such as parallel reductions and hierarchical parallelism. This work demonstrates, at the kernel level, the feasibility of agentic AI for Fortran-to-Kokkos transformation and, more broadly, for structured software-engineering tasks such as automated code modernization and refactoring.

Variational Consequence-Driven Offline Reinforcement Learning

Wen Jiang, Ke Jiang, Xiaoyang Tan

原文摘要

Offline reinforcement learning (RL) typically mitigates distribution shift by imposing divergence constraints on the action distributions of the learned and behavior policies. However, this paradigm cannot ensure the underlying dynamic consistency structure: even minor action deviations can lead to drastically different transitions, inadvertently driving the agent away from the offline dataset. To address this, we explore policy constraints through their induced state-consequence distributions rather than relying on pure action-distribution matching. Nevertheless, directly enforcing such consequence-aware constraints is computationally intractable without access to the true underlying dynamics model. To bypass this issue, we propose Structural Behavior Regularization (StBR), which replaces the intractable objective with a closed-form latent divergence. Structuring this latent space to reflect transition dynamics renders the latent divergence a theoretically bounded surrogate for the true consequence-distribution divergence. By regularizing the learned policy with this latent divergence, StBR adaptively tightens the behavior constraint in dynamics-sensitive regions, effectively preventing deviations outside the offline dataset. Empirically, we demonstrate that StBR achieves superior performance across diverse offline RL benchmarks.

On the Role of Normalization in Binary Iterative Hard Thresholding for 1-bit Compressed Sensing

Arya Mazumdar, Prateeti Mukherjee

原文摘要

Binary Iterative Hard Thresholding (BIHT) is a simple, yet effective, greedy method for recovering a sparse vector from one-bit sign measurements. In its original form, BIHT performs a ``gradient-descent'' step, followed by hard thresholding. A convergence analysis of this algorithm was left open in the introductory work of Jacques, Laska, Boufounos, and Baraniuk [IEEE Trans. Inform. Theory (2013)] and has remained unresolved for over a decade, with subsequent sharp analyses studying a normalized variant instead, that additionally projects every iterate onto the unit sphere. This paper resolves that gap and characterizes when per-iterate normalization is algorithmically necessary. In the noiseless setting, we prove a universal, sample-optimal convergence theorem for the original BIHT algorithm. Specifically, with $\widetilde O(s/ε)$ measurements, a deterministic, computable finite-time iterate has directional error at most $ε$, simultaneously for every $s$-sparse unit vector. This matches the optimal sample dependence achieved by normalized BIHT in prior work. Under sign corruptions, we prove a sharp separation. If at most a $τ$ fraction of signs are flipped adversarially, then BIHT, without per-iterate normalization, still reaches the robust error floor at an early iterate with a matching $\widetilde O(s/ε)$ sample complexity rate as its normalized variant. This recovery, however, is not stable. We prove a scalar lower bound showing that any nontrivial corruption pattern, even one that involves only one flipped sign together with one clean sign, forces the iterates to oscillate indefinitely. Consequently, no general last-iterate convergence theorem can hold for BIHT under sign corruptions, while its normalized surrogate provably escapes this instance.

原文摘要

We demonstrate the first zero-shot sim-to-real transfer for a surgeon-robot collaboration task in open surgery: retractor take-over. A robot arm takes a retractor from the surgeon's hand and preserves retraction at handoff, using a policy trained only on simulated demonstrations, without human demonstrations or real-world fine-tuning. Imitation learning from real demonstrations is limited by collection and labeling costs, and by performance degradation when the environment changes. Our framework, SimRetract, generates simulated demonstrations designed for transfer: the policy observes masked instrument images and grasp geometry, learns to recover from off-nominal states, and acts with margin for execution drift. Deployed zero-shot, it grasps the retractor in 90% of 50 surgeon-defined phantom presentations and preserves retraction at handoff in 78%. Results on unseen retractors suggest potential for generalization to instruments with similar grasp geometry. Across ten policy configurations and 1,200 simulated and real trials, we localize the sim-to-real gap to components: in simulation, grasp rates across ablations span 80-96%, while on the real robot removing the instrument mask alone drops performance to 22% grasped and 12% held. Transfer-oriented design thus makes zero-shot sim-to-real transfer feasible for a surgical assistance task without human demonstrations. On the complexity of epimorphism testing with virtually abelian targets

Murray Elder, Jerry Shen, Armin Weiß

原文摘要

Friedl and Löh (2021, Confl. Math.) prove that testing whether or not there is an epimorphism from a finitely presented group to the direct product of an abelian and a finite group, or to a virtually cyclic group, is decidable. Here we prove that these problems are $\mathsf{NP}$-complete. In addition, we show that testing epimorphism is $\mathsf{NP}$-complete when the target is is the semi-direct product of a finitely generated free-abelian group and a finite group which factors through $\{\pm\text{Id}\}$, thus extending the class of virtually abelian target groups for which decidability of epimorphism is known.

HERON: Real-Time Obstacle-Aware Reachability Maps for Mobile Manipulators

G. Dupoiron, F. Michaud, J. P. Roberge

原文摘要

Mobile manipulator robots rarely reposition their base during manipulation, because doing so requires real-time knowledge of how well the arm can reach its surroundings among obstacles. Reachability maps (RMs) encode this knowledge, but existing methods are slow, coarse (typically 5 cm), or ignore real obstacles. This article asks whether a neural network can predict an obstacle-aware RM at 2 cm resolution from a live depth camera, on embedded hardware, fast enough for online use. We present HERON, a 3D U-Net trained on RMs computed with the GPU-accelerated inverse kinematics of cuRobo, first on synthetic scenes and then on real depth data, and deployed on a Jetson AGX Orin with TensorRT and INT8 quantization. HERON predicts the RM of a 2.56 m cube around the arm in 115 ms on average, for a measured system rate of 8.57 Hz, close to the 10 Hz update rate of the obstacle map, whereas computing the same map with cuRobo takes about 90 min. Against the cuRobo ground truth, 95% of the voxels lie within 1 class out of 51 with the FP32 model and within 3 classes with the INT8 model, with a Pearson correlation of 0.99 and a quadratic weighted kappa above 0.9. Accuracy degrades mainly at the workspace boundaries.

3DCodeEdit: Benchmarking Instruction-Guided 3D Program Editing

原文摘要

Language models increasingly create 3D content through code, with practical workflows often relying on editing existing programs rather than regenerating them, for speed and precise control. Such edits require understanding what a program builds and foreseeing how a change reshapes it, yet prior benchmarks mostly evaluate generation or simple edits against a reference. In this paper, we introduce 3DCodeEdit, a benchmark of 2,592 instruction-guided editing tasks over 108 Blender programs that construct objects entirely in code. Its edits range from parameter to structural changes, style redesign, and scene composition, and are judged from renders against human-reviewed checklists. Across 17 models, the average success rate is only 37%, and even the strongest models complete fewer than 60% of structural and style edits. As models become more capable, their failures shift to geometric foresight, where the code runs but builds the wrong shape. We therefore study whether multi-turn feedback can compensate for this missing foresight. Feedback from a separate reviewer model that describes how the renders differ from the request helps most, more than maximum reasoning effort or an agent harness, and can let a 27B model surpass the single-shot rate of a 2.8T-parameter model.

The Endgame of FSDP Communication: Layout-Aware Collectives on Copy Engines, RDMA, and NVSwitch

原文摘要

Fully Sharded Data Parallelism (FSDP2) maintains parameters and gradients as per-parameter tensors, whereas its collective path operates on flat, rank-major buffers. Converting between these layouts copies all-gather outputs into parameter storage and packs gradients into full-group fp32 buffers. Layout conversion alone accounts for 6.4% of step time in Llama-3.1 70B training at 8K tokens per GPU. Communication kernels impose a second cost: a default NCCL reduce-scatter can slow a concurrent GEMM that would otherwise complete in a single wave by 69%. We present TIDE, a set of zero-copy collectives built on public NCCL 2.31+ APIs. TIDE preserves FSDP2's per-parameter storage and compute kernels while folding layout placement into collective addressing. TIDE-AG delivers shards directly to parameter storage using NVSwitch multicast and paced recursive-doubling RDMA, with no SMs used for transport or placement. TIDE-RS consumes per-parameter bf16 gradients directly and reduces them into fp32 shards (a mixed-precision mode that NCCL does not provide) using copy engines and short-lived thread blocks (CTAs) for node-local accumulation and NVSwitch for cross-node reduction. A two-phase pipeline separates gradient reads from network progress; Slot-Reuse optionally stages gradients in vacated all-gather slots. On 64 GPUs, TIDE reduces step time by up to 27.1% relative to Stock FSDP2 and 6.0% relative to FSDP2+SymmMem across Llama-3.1 70B, Wan2.2, and Qwen3-30B-A3B. It reduces reduce-scatter SM time by factors of 12.5-14.5 and cuts interference with concurrent compute by up to an order of magnitude. Its reduce-scatter buffer remains nearly constant from 16 to 64 GPUs at a fixed per-GPU output size, and its peak memory is up to 4.7 GiB below FSDP2+SymmMem's and, with Slot-Reuse on Wan2.2, below Stock FSDP2's.

Collision-Free Schedule Acquisition through Slotted ALOHA: Scaling Laws and Fluctuations

Plínio Santini Dester

原文摘要

Decentralized networks can learn collision-free periodic transmission schedules, but acquisition can consume much of a finite operating horizon. We characterize acquisition in a reservation protocol for a fixed population of $n$ nodes and a period of $Γ_n\ge n$ slots. Initially, each node attempts independently in each slot with probability proportional to $1/n$. A success reserves a slot that the node reuses every $Γ_n$ slots, retaining it after collisions. Nodes use only their own acknowledgments and small local memory. An exact finite-population Markov reduction, independent of the arrangement of reserved slots, characterizes the time until every node has a distinct reservation. As $n\to\infty$, mean acquisition takes $O(n^2)$ slots when $Γ_n=n$ and $O(n\log n)$ slots when $Γ_n\sim(1+θ)n$, for fixed $θ>0$. With a fixed number $Γ_n-n$ of spare slots, the standard deviation of acquisition time has the same asymptotic order as its mean. If that number diverges while $Γ_n/n$ remains bounded, the ratio of standard deviation to mean tends to zero. A diverging sublinear number of spare slots yields $o(n^2)$ mean acquisition while long-run utilization, the fraction $n/Γ_n$ of slots with successful transmissions, tends to one. Simulations validate these laws and compare acquisition and delivered packets per slot with existing access protocols.
