PPA-Game: Characterizing and Learning Competitive Dynamics Among Online Content Creators

Renzhe Xu, Haotian Wang, Xingxuan Zhang, Bo Li, Peng Cui

原文摘要

In this paper, we present the Proportional Payoff Allocation Game (PPA-Game), which characterizes situations where agents compete for divisible resources. In the PPA-game, agents select from available resources, and their payoffs are proportionately determined based on heterogeneous weights attributed to them. Such dynamics simulate content creators on online recommender systems like YouTube and TikTok, who compete for finite consumer attention, with content exposure reliant on inherent and distinct quality. We first conduct a game-theoretical analysis of the PPA-Game. While the PPA-Game does not always guarantee the existence of a pure Nash equilibrium (PNE), we identify prevalent scenarios ensuring its existence. Simulated experiments further prove that the cases where PNE does not exist rarely happen. Beyond analyzing static payoffs, we further discuss the agents' online learning about resource payoffs by integrating a multi-player multi-armed bandit framework. We propose an online algorithm facilitating each agent's maximization of cumulative payoffs over $T$ rounds. Theoretically, we establish that the regret of any agent is bounded by $O(\log^{1 + η} T)$ for any $η> 0$. Empirical results further validate the effectiveness of our online learning approach.

FACTS-MAS: A Multi-Agent Architecture for Adaptive Forecasting from Heterogeneous Evidence

Madumita Karthikeyan, Umang Rajnikant Bid, Rong Pan

原文摘要

Real-world forecasting often requires integrating heterogeneous evidence whose predictive value varies across horizons, operating regimes, and domains. We introduce FACTS-MAS, a domain-agnostic multi-agent forecasting framework that decomposes evidence into specialized channels for temporal dynamics, exogenous context, seasonality, structural information, and discrete events. Each agent generates an independently testable forecast through a common interface, while leakage-safe historical validation measures its predictive skill relative to a naive reference. These skill estimates are used to weight and combine agent forecasts, so that uninformative evidence is either removed or downweighted rather than forced to participate. A calibration procedure selects domain-specific constant means based on historical validation folds. We evaluate FACTS-MAS on weekly for-sale housing inventory from Zillow and weekly unemployment insurance claims from FRED, for 15 U.S. metropolitan areas at 4-, 8-, and 13-week forecasting horizons. Our method outperforms both a naive last-value forecast method and the TimesFM foundation model. However, a factor-adjusted exponential smoothing model performs as well as the fused forecast. The evidence therefore supports FACTS-MAS as a systematic protocol for testing, calibrating, and recomposing evidence channels before assembling them into the strongest single model for a specific application domain. Code, data, and results are available at https://github.com/Madumita24/FACTS-MAS.

Silhouette-Based Gaitomics for Frailty Assessment in Older Adults

Laura McDaniel, Ryan Roemmich, Crystal Szczesny, Peter Abadir, Rama Chellappa, Basudha Pal

原文摘要

Walking offers a window into physical function that may support interpretable video-based frailty assessment. We developed silhouette-based "gaitomics" to connect frailty predictions with measurable patterns of body configuration and movement. In 66 older adults assessed using the Fried Frailty Phenotype, standardized silhouettes and gait energy images yielded 90 descriptors of shape, temporal variation, motion, and texture. Minimum redundancy maximum relevance selection using the mutual information difference criterion prioritized informative features while limiting redundancy. Each classifier was evaluated using nested stratified cross-validation with five outer and three inner folds at the participant level, with feature ranking and feature-count selection confined to training partitions. Shapley additive explanations examined contributions to held-out predictions. Bilateral silhouette difference led the aggregate feature-selection rankings for three-class classification and both comparisons involving frail participants. Attribution profiles differed across tasks, with texture and consecutive-frame silhouette differences prominent in three-class classification. Among classifier-specific evaluations, CatBoost achieved the highest mean three-class micro-AUC of 0.647 \pm 0.085. Leading pairwise mean micro-AUCs were 0.833 \pm 0.249 for frail versus nonfrail, 0.765 \pm 0.168 for frail versus prefrail, and 0.554 \pm 0.129 for prefrail versus nonfrail classification. These findings connect model predictions to explicit gait characteristics while revealing task-dependent feature priorities and limited separation of prefrail and nonfrail participants. The framework provides an interpretable basis for further investigation, with larger independent studies needed to establish reliability and clinical relevance.

CuraEval: Evaluating Demonstration Curation on Mixed-Skill Robot Data

Jiuyi Xu, Meida Chen, Yang Ye, Yangming Shi

原文摘要

Robot imitation learning uses demonstrations from operators of varying skill, but selecting training data remains challenging. Existing methods score demonstrations using smoothness, diversity, or estimated influence on policy performance, but differences in selection and evaluation protocols make it difficult to determine whether they outperform simple baselines. We introduce \textbf{CuraEval}, a framework combining mathematical analysis of demonstration scores with controlled comparisons against fixed size-matched random subsets and full-data training on mixed-skill robomimic data using Diffusion Policy and BC-RNN. We show that the evaluated PSD score depends only on episode length and squared position magnitudes, and produces nearly the same ranking as episode length on \textit{square} ($ρ=0.999$). With Diffusion Policy, selecting the shortest 50\% of demonstrations improves \textit{square} success from 70.7\% under random selection to 76.5\%. Compared with random selection, our adapted geometric-entropy LOO selector reduces success at 25\% retention from 94.7\% to 74.0\% on \textit{can} and achieves 41.7\% on \textit{square}, below the mean success rates of all three independently sampled random subsets (59.8--62.5\%). On the same 3 \textit{square} Diffusion Policy training seeds, length-based selection at 75\% retention improves success over full-data training from 76.7\% to 86.7\% under the original protocol, but lowers it from 80.5\% to 79.5\% after checkpoint reporting, rollout count, and evaluation seed change jointly. No evaluated curated condition significantly outperforms full-data training after Holm correction, although confidence intervals still permit useful gains. Code is available at https://github.com/jiuyixu25/CuraEval.

Disentangling Latent Embeddings with Sparse Linear Concept Cones (SLiCC)

Zhi Li, Hau Phan, Matthew Emigh, Austin J. Brockmeier

原文摘要

Pretrained vision models encode semantic information in latent embedding spaces that are useful for downstream tasks. We hypothesize that this information can be disentangled to separate the content of complex scenes by decomposing each embedding into multiple concept-specific components. We propose Sparse Linear Concept Cones (SLiCC), a supervised dictionary learning approach that estimates a linear synthesis model consisting of sparse, non-negative combinations of groups of dictionary atoms, whose group-wise activity is guided by multi-label information. Each concept-specific component is a non-negative combination of atoms associated with a label and lies in a corresponding concept cone. We introduce an alternating optimization algorithm and an autoencoder formulation of SLiCC. We apply SLiCC to three types of CLIP and DINOv2 embeddings across five datasets. For CLIP, we additionally exploit image-text alignment to enable a self-supervised SLiCC. We also introduce a fully unsupervised autoencoder that enforces group sparsity based on the norm of neuron activations. Quantitative results show that supervised SLiCC improves concept-filtered image retrieval over unfiltered embeddings, including retrieval of finer-grained information not provided during training. Beyond retrieval of individual concepts, the disentangled components enable concept deletion and recombination across images. We further explore conditional image generation using Image-to-Prompt, with qualitative results illustrating retrieval and generation from manipulated concept representations.

Rubricon: Automated Rubric Generation and Refinement for LLM Evaluation and Training

Ulyana Tkachenko, Hui Wen Goh, Guram Gogia, Jonas Mueller

原文摘要

Rubrics enable reward assignment on tasks without verifiable answers, but are expensive to manually produce from scratch. We present Rubricon, a pipeline that generates discriminative rubrics without requiring human preference labels, rubric annotation, or generator-model training. Using any LLM, Rubricon samples multiple rubrics, selects the most discriminative candidate, adds criteria to capture overlooked requirements or response flaws, and prunes criteria that are misaligned or shallow. Alongside LLM self-critique and test-time scaling, Rubricon uses observed criterion pass rates on example model responses to guide refinement. Across five professional, consumer, clinical, and general-use LLM benchmarks, Rubricon produces rubrics whose scores of frontier LLM responses exhibit 9% greater alignment with labor-intensive expert-authored rubrics, compared to the best alternative synthetic rubric generation method among RRD, QSRG, OpenRubrics, and agentic generation via harnesses like Codex. On HealthBench, post-training a Qwen3.5-9B model with Rubricon rubrics yields 4.5% better performance than training with rubrics from the strongest alternative synthetic rubric generator, RRD.

HotPOT: Operator Transformer with Heterogeneous Physics Experts for Large-Scale PDE Pre-training

Jiayi Li, Guancheng Zhou, Yisi Luo, Ruihua Chen, Penghao Jiang, Deyu Meng, Flora D. Salim, Piotr Koniusz

原文摘要

Large-scale PDE pre-training trains a single model on the data from multiple partial differential equations (PDEs). However, adding heterogeneous PDEs with different governing equations, physical variables, and variable interactions does not always improve predictive performance across tasks. Existing PDE mixture-of-experts models mitigate cross-task interference through learned routing, but typically use homogeneous expert architectures, making it difficult to directly reflect differences in state evolution across equations. We introduce HotPOT, an operator transformer with heterogeneous physics experts for large-scale PDE pre-training. HotPOT uses a shared encoder to capture information common across PDEs, while each PDE family uses a neural-numerical expert that pairs a learnable predictor with a fixed numerical update containing no trainable parameters. Each predictor outputs the quantities required by its paired numerical update, which then computes the next state. This design allows different PDEs to share a common encoder while retaining their own learnable predictors and numerical updates. Experiments across five PDE families and six settings show that HotPOT outperforms MoE-POT in all 24 matched-scale comparisons before and after fine-tuning, reducing rollout error by 50.7% on average. Notably, the 17M model also surpasses substantially larger MoE-POT models, and the performance gains extend to zero-shot prediction under unseen physical conditions. Code is available at https://github.com/cruiseresearchgroup/HotPOT-code.

Regression Functions as Fields on Covariate Space: Evolution Equations, the Hessian, and Identification

Nobuaki Tanaka

原文摘要

For each time $t$, the regression function $m_t(x)=E[Y_t\mid X_t=x]$ of an outcome on contemporaneous covariates can be regarded as a field on covariate space. When the covariates of units move as a diffusion and each unit's outcome has its own dynamics, we show that $m_t$ satisfies a second-order evolution equation whose diffusion term is $\frac12\mathrm{tr}(Σ\nabla^2 m_t)$, the Hessian of the regression function weighted by the covariance $Σ$ of covariate increments, whose transport term is the drift of the time-reversed covariate process, and whose source term is the conditional mean rate of change of the outcome; this yields a Feynman-Kac representation along reversed covariate paths. We relate this Hessian to quadratic regression (under Gaussian design the best quadratic approximation has Hessian $E[\nabla^2 m(X)]$) and to kernel smoothing bias. For bistable replicator dynamics on covariate space, travelling fronts are exactly logistic in $(x,t)$, so one logistic regression identifies the diffusion-reaction ratio and the invading strategy. We then ask whether spread in covariate space reflects fluctuating unit characteristics or imitation among similar units. Imitation acts through exactly the same operator as covariate fluctuation, so the two are observationally equivalent in the regression field; panel data separate them because they identify $Σ$ directly. The two cannot be separated on a travelling front, and we propose a split-sample instrumental-variables test that works on seeded, non-front profiles, with size and power evaluated in agent-based experiments.

Disparity Laundering: Consensus Without Fairness in Clinical Multi-Agent Systems

Xiaoyang Wang, Tianrui Wang, Christopher C. Yang

原文摘要

Clinical large language models are increasingly fielded as multi-agent teams, on the assumption that deliberation averages out individual error. It does not average out bias. Across a full factorial of five model families and four aggregation topologies on 120 real MIMIC-IV emergency cases under counterfactual demographic swaps, no configuration neutralizes the disparity: all 20 cells commit the direction of their agents' independent answers, giving Black patients more acute triage. Every model has a topology that amplifies its baseline gap, but which one varies by model, so no design is reliably safe or reliably amplifying: the disparity is relocated, never removed. Late-stage fixes fail: fairness instructions and demographic masking leave the gap untouched, and per-agent self-debiasing widens it, because the bias is already encoded in the agents' ordinary clinical numbers. We call this disparity laundering; the audits now applied to clinical AI, per model, per output, per version, can certify the parts but never the committed decision. Interventions close the gap exactly when they make counterfactual versions visible inside the system and pool them, through deliberation, into the committed decision. A diverse-perspective ensemble does both while keeping the team, with no retraining or architectural change: the disparity falls by 67 to 94% where all five perspectives pool at every round, and the one topology that never pools them is the one it cannot reliably repair. Medical multi-agent systems do not filter demographic bias; they launder it into plausible decisions no single-version audit can catch, and the only defense is to make the bias visible.

Skeleton Coding: Program Structure as a Specification for Agents

原文摘要

Coding agents are typically provided end-to-end behavioral specifications that the code they produce should satisfy, such as tests and input--output examples. How many such specifications must a developer provide, and which ones, for the agent to produce the developer's intended program? We argue that this cannot be determined a priori, for it depends on the structure of the implementation, which is left to the agent to decide. An agent first commits to a structure---a decomposition into data types, modules, and functions---which fixes a class of candidate programs; behavioral specifications then select a program within that class. A set of tests that suffices for one structure may leave another badly underdetermined, requiring different edge cases or exponentially more examples. Since the structure is chosen by the agent, developers cannot ensure their specification is complete without reverse-engineering it from thousands of lines of generated code. To resolve this, we introduce Skeleton Coding, in which developers jointly specify the structure---in high-level, code-like format---alongside behavioral specifications. Theoretically, we model AI-assisted coding as a control problem, and show that skeletons can reduce exponentially the number of tests developers must supply to steer an agent toward an acceptable program. Empirically, across four models and three benchmarks, the best-performing skeleton specifications reduce mean test error by 48.4% relative to the best end-to-end behavioral specifications. Even when the agent can query a complete reference implementation, adding a skeleton reduces mean test error relatively by up to 27.0%. Skeletons also narrow the average gap between small and large models by about 52.4% while lowering implementation cost by 15--26x, and reduce code erosion by 24.7% on average.

SGNO: Spectral Generator Neural Operator for Long-Horizon PDE Prediction

Jiayi Li, Penghao Jiang, Baiyu Chen, Yifan Duan, Hira Saleem, Zhaonan Wang, Piotr Koniusz, Flora D. Salim

原文摘要

Neural operators efficiently simulate dynamical systems by repeatedly predicting the next state. However, small errors at each step can accumulate, causing long-term predictions to drift from the true trajectory. Long-term error reflects both the propagation of earlier prediction errors and new errors introduced at each step. How to reduce these errors is therefore a critical question. We propose the Spectral Generator Neural Operator (SGNO), which combines a linear estimate of the next state with a learned correction. The linear component uses consecutive states in the training data to fit a map from the current state to the next. A neural network corrects this prediction by learning changes that the linear model does not capture, including nonlinear interactions. Both components are trained jointly toward the same next-state target. Experiments across 13 periodic PDE configurations in one to three dimensions show that SGNO accurately learns state evolution on linear tasks and reduces 100-step rollout error by 13-74% over the strongest baseline under the main comparison protocol on each nonlinear task. Longer-horizon extrapolation tests show lower late-window prediction errors on several nonlinear tasks. These results show that combining fitted propagation with learned state-dependent correction can improve long-horizon autoregressive prediction on the evaluated PDE tasks. Code is available at https://github.com/cruiseresearchgroup/SGNO.

Joint Flow Matching: Consistent Generative and Discriminative Inference from a Shared Flow

Hayden McAlister, Lech Szymanski

原文摘要

We study Joint Flow Matching (JFM), a flow-based framework for learning a joint distribution over paired variables such as images and class labels. JFM transports the variables in opposite directions: an image is transported from noise to data while its label is transported from data to noise. This provides a single probabilistic model in which generation and classification are represented as complementary conditional inferences. We formulate the joint distribution induced by this construction and characterise the relationship between its forward and reverse conditionals. We investigate the resulting model for classification and conditional generation, including confidence calibration and consistency between generated samples and classifier predictions. Experiments on conditional datasets demonstrate competitive classification accuracy, well-calibrated confidence without post-hoc calibration, and classifier-consistent generation. We further explore the shared joint distribution as a basis for interpreting the relationship between discriminative and generative behaviour.

Scalable Bayesian Quadrature via Operator-Adapted Features

Huanyan Zhu, Cheng Li

原文摘要

Kernel methods face two recurrent bottlenecks: the cubic cost of inverting an $n\times n$ kernel matrix, as in kernel ridge regression, and the evaluation of kernel integrals, as required in kernel quadrature. Existing low-rank kernel and Gaussian process approximations primarily address the former bottleneck, but do not control the downstream quadrature error when both the kernel matrix and kernel mean are approximated, particularly when the integrand lies outside the kernel reproducing kernel Hilbert space. We address both challenges through an operator-adapted finite-feature approximation. Specifically, we construct a finite-dimensional working kernel from the eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of a second-order differential operator. We establish convergence guarantees for the resulting finite-feature estimators in kernel quadrature, with extension to other related kernel methods. Our results show that, with $m \lesssim n$ basis functions, the truncated estimator attains the corresponding benchmark statistical rates. The theory covers fixed/random designs, noisy/noiseless observations, oversmoothing/undersmoothing regimes, and Matérn/Gaussian-type weights. We provide explicit error bounds that quantify the roles of the spectral cutoff, regularization parameter, lengthscale, sampling geometry, and operator boundary condition. We verify the convergence results in numerical experiments.

RainCheck: Harnessing Historical Weather Data with Machine Learning for Rainfall Forecasting in Bangladesh

Shahran Rahman Alve, Muhammad Zawad Mahmud, Samiha Islam, Al Jubayer Pial

原文摘要

Machine-learning rainfall forecasts are often evaluated by shuffling station records into random training and test sets. For rainfall, this lets a model see what happened at neighbouring stations on the very day it is asked to forecast, and it hides the fact that a seasonal lookup table already explains most of the variance. We quantify both effects on 618,650 station-days from 35 Bangladesh Meteorological Department stations (1948-2014). We compare random, temporal (train <=1999, test 2005-2014) and spatio-temporal (unseen stations and unseen years) evaluation, calendar-only versus antecedent-rainfall features, and six learners against climatology, persistence and SARIMA. Three findings stand out. First, a station-month climatology alone classifies high-rainfall months with 88.4% accuracy (AUC 0.950), and no learner improved on it by more than 0.8 points under temporal evaluation. Second, a calendar-only random forest reached a next-day wet-day AUC of 0.889 under a random split, higher than any model with real predictors under temporal evaluation, yet fell to 0.835, below climatology (0.859), on future years. Third, models with lagged rainfall add genuine but modest skill for next-day forecasts: a Brier skill score of 0.074 (95% CI 0.064-0.088) over climatology, rising to 0.091 when station and year inputs are removed and to 0.131 when other stations' same-day observations are added. A GRU sequence model matches but does not exceed gradient boosting, and skill disappears beyond a two-day lead. For monthly totals, no learner beat climatology significantly. We release a leakage-aware protocol and code so that future station-based studies report skill against climatology on held-out years.

WovenAnchor Matcher: Specialized Intra- and Inter-Image Context Modeling for Feature Matching

Zhiyang Li, Ruijiang Jin, Thibaut Klenke, Yusuke Sekikawa, Nakamasa Inoue

原文摘要

Semi-dense local feature matching commonly aggregates contextual information before coarse-to-fine correspondence estimation. However, intra-image and inter-image aggregation serve different roles: the former should propagate spatial evidence within each image while retaining structured two-dimensional dependencies, whereas the latter should gather information from plausible corresponding regions while limiting noise from unrelated locations. We propose WovenAnchor Matcher (WAM), a semi-dense matching framework based on role-specialized context aggregation. WAM introduces two complementary operators. WovenMamba performs intra-image aggregation through horizontal-then-vertical state-space propagation, allowing vertical updates to operate on horizontally contextualized features and thereby encouraging a structured two-dimensional receptive-field bias. AnchorCrossAttention performs inter-image aggregation by using cross-attention to gather context from plausible corresponding regions across the image pair. It performs this exchange over local representative anchors that aggregate feature evidence within each window. On MegaDepth, WAM achieves 66.1 pose AUC@5$^\circ$, improving on the JamMa baseline by 2.0 AUC points under the same evaluation setup. Ablations show that removing or replacing either specialized component reduces accuracy, providing evidence that intra-image propagation and inter-image retrieval benefit from role-specific aggregation designs. Code and pretrained weights are available at https://github.com/mmaiLab/WovenAnchorMatcher.

Non-Commutative Lie-Algebraic State-Space Models: Finite-Division Variety Laws, Semidirect Cascades, and Gradient Saddle Escape

Zeyu Jia

原文摘要

Structured state-space models (SSMs) achieve linear-time inference and logarithmic-time parallel training via associative scans, yet homogeneous diagonal transitions generate solvable semigroups unable to track non-solvable group words or 3D rigid-body manifolds. We develop a theoretical and empirical framework for Non-Commutative Lie-Algebraic State-Space Models (Lie-SSMs), parameterizing recurrent updates on Lie algebra tangent spaces via the matrix exponential. First, via an o-minimal multi-rate cylindrical flag collar, we establish an unconditional single-layer finite-division criterion for homogeneous contracting $SO(3)$ and $SU(2)$ heads, proving odd-prime Sylow abelianity, odd-$p$-core centrality $[u^2,x]=e$, exponent-30 commutator laws ($[u^{30},v^{30}]=e$ in $SO(3)^m$ and $[u^{30},v^{30}]\in Z(G),[u^{30},v^{30}]^2=e$ in $SU(2)^m,SO(4)^m$, excluding $S_5$), and sharp threshold $d^*(S_5)=d^*(A_6)=5$ in $SO(5)$. Second, Depth-2 semidirect and Schreier $2$-cocycle cascades resolve $S_5$, $2I\cong SL_2(F_5)$, and $\mathrm{Heis}(F_p)$ in $O(\log T)$ depth, whereas unnormalized contracting coupling collapses exponentially without Directional RMSNorm. Third, we characterize the $O(\varepsilon^{c-1})$ Chen--Magnus--Hall--Witt commutator saddle and $1/|[G,G]|$ coset-centroid dilution, proving $\varepsilon=0$ symmetry breaking and local Polyak--Łojasiewicz convergence ($θ_{\max}<π$), solving $S_5$ ($99.90\%/99.40\%$ at $T=128$) and $D_{16}$ ($100.00\%$) via dense prefix loss and factored readouts. Across $Q_8,A_5,S_5,D_{16}$, Dyck-2, $SE_2(3)$ Left-Jacobian odometry, GPU scans ($26.03\times$ speedup), and three 3D IMU cohorts (UCI HAR, HAPT-PT 30-subject CV, and REALDISP), Depth-2 Lie-$SO(3)$ cascades reach $95.69\%\pm 0.14\%$ on HAR, $87.16\%\pm 0.64\%$ ($88.32\%\pm 0.93\%$ 30-subject episodes) on HAPT-PT, and $84.23\%\pm 1.00\%$ under displacement on REALDISP.

Density Decomposition on Hypergraphs

Xiaoyu Leng, Hongchao Qin, Rong-Hua Li, Guoren Wang

原文摘要

Hypergraphs capture higher-order interactions involving multiple entities. Existing decomposition models, such as $k$-core and nbr-$k$-core, rely on degree or neighborhood constraints and may overlook fine-grained density variations. We propose a $(k,δ)$-dense subhypergraph model based on capped hyperedge contributions. For each parameter pair, the unique dense set is the inclusionwise smallest maximizer of a penalized capped hyperedge contribution. These dense sets form a nested hierarchy characterized by egalitarian $δ$-orientations and hypergraph reachability. We develop three algorithms for dense subhypergraph search and two for complete density decomposition. Both decomposition algorithms use integral flow balancing: Flow-Decomp extracts density levels through strongly connected component condensation, while Reverse-Decomp uses direct reverse propagation. Once an egalitarian orientation is obtained, both recover all density levels in linear time. We further derive sandwich bounds that restrict computation to equivalent residual subproblems and develop incremental algorithms for maintaining the hierarchy under hyperedge insertions and deletions. Experiments on nine real-world hypergraphs, including datasets with over 15 million vertices, compare our methods with four established decomposition models. The results show that Reverse-Decomp improves decomposition efficiency, incremental maintenance outperforms recomputation in the tested settings, and the proposed model captures density structures overlooked by degree-based decompositions.

Self-Organizing Maps with Optimized Latent Positions

Seiki Ubukata, Akira Notsu, Katsuhiro Honda

原文摘要

Self-Organizing Maps (SOM) are a classical method for unsupervised learning, vector quantization, and topographic mapping of high-dimensional data. However, existing SOM formulations often involve a trade-off between computational efficiency and a clearly defined optimization objective. Objective-based variants such as Soft Topographic Vector Quantization (STVQ) provide a principled formulation, but their neighborhood-coupled computations become expensive as the number of latent nodes increases. In this paper, we propose Self-Organizing Maps with Optimized Latent Positions (SOM-OLP), an objective-based topographic mapping method that introduces a continuous latent position for each data point. Starting from the neighborhood distortion of STVQ, we construct a separable surrogate local cost based on its local quadratic structure and formulate an entropy-regularized objective based on it. This yields a simple block coordinate descent scheme with closed-form updates for assignment probabilities, latent positions, and reference vectors, while guaranteeing monotonic non-increase of the objective and retaining linear per-iteration complexity in the numbers of data points and latent nodes. Experiments on a synthetic saddle manifold, scalability studies on the Digits and MNIST datasets, and 16 benchmark datasets show that SOM-OLP achieves competitive neighborhood preservation and quantization performance, favorable scalability for large numbers of latent nodes and large datasets, and the best average rank among the compared methods on the benchmark datasets.

Is it my preference? Role Grounding Attack against Agent's Memory via Social Interaction

Haoran Bu, Yiting Shen, Litian Zhang, Ruihan Hu, Xi Zhang

原文摘要

LLM-based agents now share experiences on social platforms and remember new preferences to enhance their performance. However, existing memory systems contain a vulnerability in role-to-principal attribution that attackers can exploit. We identify Role Grounding Misattribution, in which an attacker-designed interaction causes the victim agent to incorrectly record a preference from the attacker as a preference of the victim's user. Specifically, we are the first to formalize Role Grounding Attack (RGA), an attack model that exploits this vulnerability through nested conversation structures. In the memory formation stage, an experience-sharing post quoting a conversation between the attacker agent and its user is published, which explicitly identifies its publisher. The inner conversation expresses preferences from the user of the attacker agent. When the victim agent remembers preferences from this nested structure, its memory loses the context binding and grounds the attacker's preference to the victim's user instead. In the memory retrieval stage, the misattributed preference persists and influences the victim agent's decisions when it encounters relevant scenarios. We instantiate RGA as tool selection manipulation and privacy leakage. Tool selection manipulation causes a tool-call preference to be misattributed to the victim's user, steering the victim toward an attacker-controlled tool. Privacy leakage extends this by misattributing both a tool-call preference and a task-requirement preference to the victim's user. The victim selects the attacker's tool, then includes sensitive information in tool arguments to satisfy the task requirement. We evaluate RGA across five mainstream memory systems and six language models. Tool manipulation and privacy leakage both achieve high attack success rates. These results call for stronger role grounding.

Progressive Coupling Method for Diffusion Posterior Sampling in Ptychography

Yihan Qiu, Mingtao Huang, Tianyuan Li, Shudong Li, Yuan Shen

原文摘要

Ptychography is a computational imaging method that reconstructs a sample from overlapping diffraction measurements. This technique relies on these overlapping measurements to provide the redundancy information needed for robust reconstruction, but dense scanning increases acquisition time and data volume. Reducing scan overlaps can improve measurement efficiency but weakens the physical constraints available for reconstruction. Diffusion models provide strong learned prior information, offering a promising approach to compensate for the loss of measurement redundancy. However, effectively utilizing this prior information under weak measurement constraints remains a challenge. We propose a progressive coupling posterior sampling (PCPS) method, which allows for a broader exploration of the solution space under high uncertainty while maintaining stronger diffusion-guided consistency as the reconstruction becomes more refined. Experiments on real X-ray ptychographic data at various scan overlaps demonstrate that PCPS consistently improves reconstruction accuracy compared to traditional iterative methods and existing diffusion posterior samplers, especially at low overlaps. These results show that diffusion priors can reduce the measurement redundancy required for accurate ptychography reconstruction.

Averaged Annealed Markov Chains Achieve the Algorithmic Threshold for Tensor PCA, Part II: Langevin Dynamics

Aniket Das, Tselil Schramm

原文摘要

We consider the tensor principal components analysis (tensor PCA) problem on the sphere, in which we are asked to recover an unknown vector in $\mathcal{S}_N=\{x\in\mathbb{R}^N:\lVert x\rVert^2=N\}$ from a noisy observation of its $k$-th tensor power, for a fixed $k\ge3$. Tensor PCA exhibits a well-studied information-computation gap: global algorithms such as spectral methods and sum-of-squares work above an algorithmic threshold, below which we know matching lower bounds (against these and some other restricted models of computation). In contrast, local algorithms such as Markov chains were only known to succeed from a random initialization at a polynomially larger signal-to-noise ratio, and were believed to be inferior to global algorithms for tensor PCA. Continuing the program initiated in Part I [arXiv:2610.16705], we show that spherical Langevin dynamics, when supplemented with annealing and ergodic averaging, achieves polynomial-time strong recovery above the algorithmic threshold from a uniformly random initialization. Together with Part I, our results demonstrate that local Markov chains can succeed all the way down to the algorithmic threshold from an uninformative cold start.

Fast Sparse $α$-Navigable Graph Construction with Improved Resource Augmentation

Alex Conway, Laxman Dhulipala, Martin Farach-Colton, Ben Landrum, Christopher Musco, Yarin Shechter, Torsten Suel, Richard Wen

原文摘要

Graph-based nearest neighbor search methods, which run greedy search on a directed graph over the data points, have surged in popularity in recent years. A common goal is to construct a search graph with the $α$-navigability property, which ensures that greedy search returns provably good approximate nearest neighbors and converges in few iterations. Increasing $α\geq 1$ improves accuracy and convergence rate, but requires more edges, which increases both space and search time. This tradeoff has motivated the study of algorithms for constructing a sparsest $α$-navigable graph for a given set of points. For any point set and any distance function, we show how to compute an $α$-navigable graph with at most $O(\log n)$ times as many edges as the sparsest $(1+\varepsilon)α$-navigable graph, in $O(n^ω\log(Δ)/\varepsilon)$ time, where $ω< 2.372$ is the matrix multiplication exponent and $Δ$ is the aspect ratio of the input. This improves on Khanna, Padaki, and Waingarten (SODA 2026), who achieve the same runtime but are only competitive with the sparsest $2(1+\varepsilon)α$-navigable graph. Since sparsity often increases rapidly with $α$ (typically $α\leq 1.1$), their bound can be significantly weaker. Previously, the best algorithm competing with the sparsest $(1+\varepsilon)α$-navigable graph required $\widetilde{O}(n^{2.5})$ time. Our techniques also extend to constructing sparse $τ$-monotonic graphs, another popular target in nearest neighbor search. Finally, we give a fine-grained complexity analysis suggesting that improving the $O(n^ω)$ running time is unlikely, or would require a very different approach. It is based on hardness results for problems related to verifying whether a graph is navigable, a topic of independent interest.

Hardeep Bassi, Hui Ma, Luís Seabra, Koowum Joshi, Daniel Pereira, Averell Gatton

原文摘要

We present Protegrity-PII, a new PII detection model for structured and unstructured text. Protegrity-PII achieves a typed recall of 0.910 with a precision of 0.902 on a new benchmark we propose, PII-SCOPE. Our model processes text in 0.49 seconds per million characters at \$0.0005 per million characters on a single RTX 6000 using batched inference. Due in part to the expansive nature of the entity type taxonomy used in training, Protegrity-PII achieves superior out-of-distribution generalization when benchmarked against a selection of state of the art models and datasets.

Two Birds with One Stone: Skill-Augmented Generation via Unified Retrieval and Utilization

Zihan Luo, Jiahui Kang, Wei Zhou, Qilin Fan, Mingyan Li, Chao Chen

原文摘要

Skills, as reusable external knowledge, have demonstrated substantial potential to enhance the ability of Large Language Models (LLMs) to solve complex tasks. However, existing skill-augmented generation methods typically rely on separate models for skill retrieval and skill utilization, resulting in disconnected optimization of these two processes. To address this gap, we propose Skill-Uni, a unified reinforcement learning framework that jointly optimizes skill retrieval and utilization. Specifically, we adopt a generative skill retrieval paradigm that enables a single model to both learn how to retrieve relevant skills and leverage them for task solving. To effectively train this unified framework, we introduce a two-stage training strategy consisting of warm-up instruction tuning and GRPO, allowing the model to progressively improve its skill retrieval and utilization capabilities. Extensive experiments on five skill-related benchmarks demonstrate the effectiveness of Skill-Uni, yielding average performance gains of 66.59% and 34.82% over the base Qwen3-4B and LLaMA3.1-8B models, respectively. Besides, Skill-Uni is compatible with various skill retrieval engines, demonstrating its flexibility and generalizability. Additional in-depth analyses also provide insights into the effectiveness of Skill-Uni.

原文摘要

Maintaining consistent target identities and observation histories is essential for mobile robot perception. Panoramic Multi-Object Tracking (MOT) benefits from broad visual coverage but must address coordinate discontinuities at the equirectangular image seam and fluctuations in relative-depth estimates. Such fluctuations can undermine depth-aware association, highlighting the need for temporally consistent depth cues. We propose CylindTrack, a depth-aware cylindrical tracking-by-detection framework that jointly models panoramic topology and temporal depth consistency. Depth-Temporal Trajectory Modeling (DTM) maintains instance depth and its rate of change as filtered trajectory states. Spherical Spatio-Temporal Consistency Learning (SSTC) combines a Temporal Mixer with Spherical Geometry-aware Attention to refine depth-aware representations. A Topology-Aware Cylindrical Motion Model (TCMM) represents horizontal motion in an unwrapped angular state and incorporates periodic overlap, angular consistency, and filtered depth cues into association. Experiments on QuadTrack and JRDB demonstrate improved identity consistency and trajectory continuity, with HOTA scores of 33.67 and 31.12 and IDF1 scores of 40.45 and 34.33, respectively. The framework processes 28.56 and 21.34 frames per second, respectively, on an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 GPU under the reported evaluation settings. These results support persistent panoramic multi-object tracking for mobile robot perception. The source code will be released at https://github.com/warriordby/CylindTrack.

From Natural Language to Real Schematics: An Automated Workflow for Power Electronics Schematic Synthesis

Bowen Su, Huan Chen, Jiahua Ying, Ran Ou, Weilong Chen, Li Xue, Kai Sun

原文摘要

Designing power electronics converters traditionally requires intensive human expertise across topology sizing, commercial component selection, circuit simulation verification, and schematic drafting. While Large Language Models (LLMs) show promise in electronic design automation (EDA), applying standalone LLMs directly to board-level power electronics schematic synthesis suffers from severe engineering hallucinations, including inaccurate analytical sizing, fabricated or mismatched component part numbers, violated voltage derating margins, and broken topological connectivity. In this paper, we propose a Bounded Dual-Loop Automated Schematic Synthesis Framework that translates natural language specifications into verified, editable KiCad schematics and manufacturing deliverables. Our workflow integrates six stages across three functional columns: (1) requirement parsing and knowledge-driven power stage synthesis covering non-isolated (Buck, Boost) and isolated/resonant (Flyback, DAB, half-bridge LLC) topologies; (2) contract- and evidence-coordinated component selection grounded in distributor APIs and OEM datasheets, coupled with closed-loop ngspice transient verification and stress feedback; and (3) modular control hardware integration and multi-format deliverable generation featuring native KiCad netlist round-trip verification. End-to-end case studies on a 24-36V to 12V,2A Buck converter (29 positions, 83 verified terminals) and an isolated 48V to 24V, 0.5A, Dual-Active Bridge (DAB) converter (87 positions, 341 verified terminals), alongside comparative evaluations against a Vanilla LLM baseline, demonstrate that our framework improves component verification coverage from 22.2 to 98.6, nominal value consistency from 0 to 97.7, and SPICE simulation pass rates from 0 to 100.

Embodied at Sea: Imitation Learning for Multi-Task Underwater Manipulation

Greta Perez-Haiek, Luca Macesanu, Kevin Angers, Mohammed Imam, Timothy Gambin, Christopher Clark

原文摘要

Behavior Cloning has demonstrated promising generalization capabilities for robotic manipulation in terrestrial environments. However, marine visual distortions and dynamic currents create a severe domain shift that remains a key bottleneck in adapting generalist architectures to underwater field manipulation. To address this, 1616 episodes of underwater manipulation data were collected in calm and turbulent waters and were used to train 14 generalist Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models (DynamicVLA) with varying proprioception observation configurations. Across three tasks on 1260 gradable on-hardware rollouts in a pool, 10 models outperformed the baseline, with the highest-performing model achieving a 93.3% overall success rate, including partial successes. Results are also introduced from a case study evaluating the performance of a single-task Action Chunking Transformer (ACT) and a generalist VLA (SmolVLA) policy for two tasks in marine archaeology and conservation: grasping and mooring. Experiments are performed on an ROV on and around the WWII wreck Coralita X127 and at Manoel Island Marina, Malta. Across 748 collected episodes and 508 gradable on-hardware rollouts, the ACT policy substantially outperformed SmolVLA (47.9% vs. 7.9% pooled success rate), earning a 66.7% success rate on the most successful task at the marine archaeological site. To enable further contributions to embodied intelligence in marine field robotics, the BLUEMBODIED KIT used to collect data, train models, and deploy policies on the ROV has been open sourced.

原文摘要

Humanoid robots must coordinate locomotion and manipulation in everyday environments, yet progress is difficult to assess across differing policies, controllers, and task settings. LocoManiLab provides an integrated testbed spanning data collection and generation, policy training, evaluation, and physical deployment. Its task suite covers 234 atomic and compositional tasks across five household scene categories, supported by 51.5 hours of simulated teleoperation. The evaluation covers twelve policies with a shared controller across task and scene splits and perturbation levels, two policies across five controllers, and studies of demonstration scale and data-source mixtures. Success rates fall on unseen tasks and scenes and generally decline as visual perturbations increase, with differences in generalization and robustness across policies. For data generation, a humanoid motion generation model is fine-tuned for loco-manipulation to study the alignment of its outputs with task execution requirements and its integration into the data generation pipeline. Three simulated loco-manipulation tasks closely match real-world setups, enabling evaluation of three policies in both domains. Similar policy rankings support the reliability of simulation-based evaluation.

A General Topological Symmetry Index for Critical Orbits In Neural Network Loss Landscapes

Jingzhou Liu

原文摘要

A systematic understanding of the global structure of neural-network loss landscapes remains challenging due to their high dimensionality. Symmetries arising from network architectures and learning objectives provide a way to investigate aspects of this structure. Although a growing number of studies have drawn attention to these symmetries, a systematic characterization of them, as well as of the critical orbits they give rise to, remains incomplete. To address this gap, in this work we establish a topological symmetry index, based on the methodologies from the family of equivariant degree theories, to decode these symmetries. The frameworks apply to arbitrary network architectures and include methods applicable to degenerate critical orbits. The index detects the isotropy of the critical points and quantifies the corresponding net topological contributions. Several examples, including softplus MLPs, Transformers, and equivariant neural networks, are presented to illustrate the computations.

BitC-3DGS: High-Capacity 3D Gaussian Splatting Watermarking via Bit Compression

Yuquan Bi, Baosheng Yu, Yingke Lei, Jianwei Yang, Hongsong Wang, Jie Gui, Yuan Yan Tang, James Tin-Yau Kwok

原文摘要

High-capacity watermarking is necessary for 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) assets to embed rich information (\eg, ownership, provenance, and authentication codes), enabling reliable identification and provenance tracking in large-scale 3D asset pipelines. Existing bit-to-token watermarking methods based on a pre-trained text encoder are limited to 77-bit messages due to CLIP's fixed 77-token context length, as tokens beyond this limit are unsupported by learned positional embeddings. To address this limitation, we introduce BitC-3DGS, a bit-compression framework that encodes multiple message bits per token. It employs a bit-compressed tokenization scheme that encodes multiple bits within the same chunk into a single semantic token. To enable recovery of the compressed information, it further introduces a dual-branch architecture for joint chunk decompression and bit decoding, along with a hard-message sampling strategy to improve combinatorial coverage during decoder training. Extensive experiments on the Blender and LLFF datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of BitC-3DGS for high-capacity watermarking, achieving high message recovery accuracy and rendering fidelity. For example, it supports 128-bit message capacity with recovery accuracy comparable to that of 64-bit messages in recent state-of-the-art methods.
