Hyper-Dimensional Fingerprints as Molecular Representations

Jonas Teufel, Luca Torresi, André Eberhard, Pascal Friederich

原文摘要

Numerical molecular representations underpin virtual screening, property prediction, and materials discovery. Conventional fingerprints are efficient and deterministic but lose structural information through hash-based compression at low dimensionalities, whereas graph neural networks recover expressiveness through compute-intensive, task-specific training. Here, we introduce hyperdimensional fingerprints (HDF), which compose the chemical attributes of atoms and their multi-hop environments through algebraic operations on high-dimensional vectors, producing deterministic representations without any training. Across diverse property-prediction benchmarks, HDF ranks consistently among the best representations across datasets and models. Crucially, HDF encodes structure more efficiently: at low dimensionalities, its distances correlate with graph edit distance more strongly than Morgan fingerprints', yielding effective similarity metrics and competitive nearest-neighbor regression at just 64 components. In Bayesian optimization, HDF-based surrogates are more sample-efficient than Morgan fingerprints with a Tanimoto kernel for most of the tested objectives. These results establish HDF as compact, training-free representations for property prediction, similarity search, and sample-efficient optimization.

Beyond Scene Shortcuts: Action-Centric Video-Text Alignment for Fine-Grained Action Understanding

Zhiliang Zhu, Jiazheng Huang, Dawei Zhao

原文摘要

Fine-grained action understanding requires vision-language models to ground what an agent does, how it acts, and why it acts in spatio-temporal evidence. However, richer supervision can backfire: fine-tuned models may generate detailed action descriptions grounded in static scenes and salient objects rather than motion, a failure we call Environment-Grounded Action Hallucination (EGAH). To mitigate EGAH, we propose Staged Attention Rectification and Reinforcement (STARR), an action-centric video-text alignment framework that breaks scene-action shortcuts through Action-Environment Dissociation and reinforces action-focused grounding with an Attention Consistency Reward within Group Relative Policy Optimization. We further construct FineActionR&R, combining temporally localized captions with hierarchical and temporal-causal reasoning data. Built on Qwen2.5-VL-7B, FineActionVLM-R1 improves average MotionBench accuracy by 3.01 percentage points over its base model and achieves 91.50% on HAU-MCQ-Bench. Qualitative comparisons further indicate more faithful fine-grained action descriptions with fewer environment-induced hallucinations.

PanoDent-KD: From Generalist Knowledge Distillation to Cross-Dataset Specialist Detection and Embedded Deployment in Panoramic Radiographs

Muhammad Waqas Ashraf, Imad Ali Shah, Ali Hassan

原文摘要

Reliable panoramic-radiograph detection requires consistency across datasets with different class definitions and deployment software. We present PanoDent-KD, an auditable 1280-pixel YOLO26m pipeline linking a 12-class source generalist, feature-level knowledge distillation (KD), exact classifier-row transfer, teacher-free five-class specialization, and embedded deployment. A common training and evaluation pipeline compares three source-training arms across three seeds: a supervised baseline (B1), single-teacher KD (STKD), and multi-teacher KD (MTKD). Five shared classifier rows initialize nine OralXrays-9 specialists, while the backbone, FPN-PAN neck, and dual-detection-head topology are retained unchanged. On the 2,686-image test subset, all three arms achieve macro box F1 near 0.82. B1 achieves the highest three-seed arm-level mean macro box F1 (0.8239$\pm$0.0027) and $mAP_{50:95}$ (0.6130$\pm$0.0067). STKD seed 1, selected after development but before final testing, was used for deployment. Its Jetson Orin Nano Super FP16 TensorRT engine achieves 77.03-ms median and 80.86-ms P95 prediction-call latency, throughput of 12.90 images/s, and gross total-module energy of 1.39 J/image, with high numerical agreement between within-device PyTorch and TensorRT FP16 inference. These findings demonstrate the feasibility of an auditable, device-specific deployment workflow, but do not establish clinical validity or improved target-domain accuracy from KD.

STEK: Structural-Terrain-Enhanced Koopman-Inspired Cross-Channel Regularization for Retrospective Battery Multi-Target Estimation

Jing Wang, Shiyuan Piao, Fugee Tsung

原文摘要

Retrospective battery characterization across heterogeneous cells is challenging because cycling records vary substantially with chemistry, protocol, cell format, capacity, and operating conditions. An endpoint charge--discharge curve captures the local condition of an evaluated cycle, while a cell-level lifecycle terrain summarizes structural evolution across the archived trajectory. We propose STEK, a structural-terrain-enhanced framework for retrospective battery multi-target estimation. STEK combines a cell-level lifecycle (dQ/dV) terrain with an endpoint-derived structural proxy through quality-proxy-conditioned gating. Bounded FiLM and a validity-gated residual head refine the endpoint-curve representation while preserving a curve-based prediction pathway. Battery-type and optional material-text representations further condition an identity-centered low-rank linear map, providing a Koopman-inspired cross-channel consistency objective without modeling temporal dynamics or performing rollout. Under the fixed seven-output MIX-battery protocol, the full retrospective setting improves aggregate performance over endpoint-only learned baselines across multiple temporal backbones; this comparison reflects both the additional archived context and the modeling design. Under matched auxiliary inputs, STEK outperforms direct concatenation and quality-unaware FiLM, while descriptor-removal tests show graceful fallback to the endpoint pathway. Deterministic rules remain preferable for directly recoverable capacity summaries. The method targets retrospective archive harmonization rather than online estimation from cycle t alone.

Multi-Resident Data Association in Smart Homes via MDP Modeling and Behavior Cloning

Xi Chen, Julien Cumin, Fano Ramparany, Dominique Vaufreydaz

原文摘要

Ambient sensors offer a privacy-preserving solution for activity recognition in smart homes, yet they face a critical challenge in multi-resident environments known as Data Association, which aims to identify the resident triggering a specific anonymous sensor event. Existing approaches fundamentally fail to maintain global consistency by often yielding conflicting associations for silent residents. Additionally, these methods frequently suffer from severe trajectory fragmentation caused by the ontological mismatch of applying continuous physical motion models to discrete logical behaviors. To address these limitations, we propose a novel framework that reformulates data association as a sequential decision-making task within a Markov Decision Process (MDP). We solve the defined MDP via Behavior Cloning (BC) to avoid complex reward engineering by directly learning from expert demonstrations. We instantiate the policy using two complementary architectures, including a lightweight Transformer that treats association as a multi-label classification task over linearized event histories, and a fine-tuned Large Language Model (LLM) that reformulates the problem as conditional text generation to leverage pre-trained semantic knowledge. Extensive evaluations on three diverse datasets demonstrate that our approach significantly outperforms state-of-the-art baselines, particularly in resolving concurrent multi-resident events. Furthermore, the LLM-based policy shows preliminary cross-environment transfer potential under benchmark settings, while its robustness in real deployments still requires further validation.

A.S.E 2.0: Understanding How Repository Context Impacts the Security of LLM-Generated Code

Jiongchi Yu, Keke Lian, Junqing Wang, Zhikang Fan, Zhaoxuan Li, Yongheng Huang, Ziming Zhao, Dong Zhang

原文摘要

Large language model (LLM) coding assistants and agents construct a repository context before generating code. For security-sensitive code, this context decides whether the model sees the project's safeguards (e.g., authorization checks) or insecure code to imitate. However, context construction is designed almost exclusively for functional correctness, and secure-code benchmarks treat the context as fixed, so how repository context affects the security of generated code remains unclear. We construct CASE-Bench, a benchmark of 145 repository-level tasks from real CVEs in 51 projects. Each task runs in Docker, has functional tests and a proof-of-concept exploit validated in both directions, and is annotated with the repository code that enforces or undermines its security. Using CASE-Bench, we compare 13 context construction methods and six controls with six LLMs, edit single context elements, and analyze coding-agent trajectories. We find that (1) functionality-oriented context raises the functional pass rate by up to 8.2 percentage points (pp) but the secure pass rate by at most 3.7 pp, (2) withholding a safeguard lowers the secure pass rate by up to 8.1 pp, while one inserted insecure exemplar raises correct-but-exploitable code by 6.3 pp, and (3) coding agents observe the relevant safeguard in only 27-36% of trajectories. These findings inform security-aware context construction and secure-code evaluation.

Evolving Support Priorities in Empathetic Reinforcement Learning

原文摘要

We identify a fundamental mismatch in empathetic reinforcement learning: support priorities evolve with the dialogue state, yet existing methods typically optimize predefined reward specifications that remain fixed across turns. To model these evolving support priorities, we organize empathetic support along cognitive, affective, and proactive empathy, and propose Context-Adaptive Rubric Evolution (CARE). At each turn, CARE generates a context-adaptive rubric by adjusting both the weights of these three empathy dimensions and their fine-grained evaluation criteria. The rubric generator is trained with turn-level rubric supervision and human preference data through supervised fine-tuning followed by preference-based reinforcement learning, and then serves as an adaptive reward interface for online empathetic RL. Integrated with both RLVER and MICA, CARE achieves state-of-the-art performance across SentientBench, EQBench3, and EMPA under three independent LLM judges. Notably, on EMPA, CARE improves EPM-Idx over the strongest baseline by at least 13 points under all three judges, including an increase from 28.11 to 83.54 under Gemini-2.5-Pro. Further analyses show that learned rubric priorities systematically vary across dialogue stages and user emotions, demonstrating that CARE adapts what is rewarded as support needs evolve. Data-Driven and Cycle-Agnostic Covariate Selection for Nonparametric Causal Effect Estimation

Ana Leticia Garcez Vicente, Gijs van Seeventer, Saber Salehkaleybar

原文摘要

Estimating causal effects from observational data requires identifying valid adjustment sets. This task is especially challenging in realistic settings where latent confounding and feedback loops are present. Existing approaches typically assume acyclicity or rely on global causal structure learning, limiting applicability and computational efficiency. In this work, we study a local, data-driven method for covariate selection based on conditional independence information under a pre-treatment assumption. While this method is known to be sound and complete in acyclic causal models, its validity in the presence of cycles has remained unclear. Our main contribution is to show that these guarantees extend to cyclic causal models. In particular, our result relies on the invariance of conditional independence assertions under $σ$-acyclification. These findings establish a unified, cycle-agnostic perspective on covariate selection, which allows for causal effect estimation using any consistent estimator. Therefore, showing that the method applies across cyclic and acyclic settings without modification. Empirically, we validate this on extensive synthetic data, showing reliable performance in cyclic causal models.

The Split Protocol Decides the Result: Re-Evaluating Encrypted Traffic Classification

Mayan Sharma, Kriti Saini, Devansh Behl

原文摘要

Encrypted traffic classifiers are routinely reported at 95-99% accuracy. We show that on one of two public corpora, the same model and code score macro-F1 0.992 under the evaluation protocol standard in the literature and 0.567 under a protocol that keeps flows from one packet capture on one side of the split. Nothing changes but the partition (gap 0.426 over eight seeds, p = 0.008 after Holm-Bonferroni correction). The inflation is not a property of random splitting as such. On a month of backbone QUIC traffic, we evaluate five split protocols at eight seeds each: random, temporal and client-disjoint splitting are statistically indistinguishable from session-disjoint, while server-disjoint splitting costs 0.192 macro-F1 (d = 17.0, p = 0.008). Which axis matters depends on how the corpus was collected, in a way invisible from its label space. We give a diagnostic that identifies the right axis before any model is trained: single-identifier probes. A decision tree on the capture identifier alone reaches 0.983 under a random split and exactly 0.000 under session-disjoint splitting. Under this evaluation, a metric-trained flow embedding leads four deep baselines but does not beat gradient-boosted trees on twenty packet sizes. Five of our own pre-registered architectural claims fail: distance-based rejection of unknown applications beats softmax thresholding, but ablating every metric objective makes rejection better, because class separation correlates at r = -0.88 with rejection quality. Few-shot enrollment is flat within a corpus but, across corpora, five labelled flows per class recover 91% of the deficit left by failed zero-shot transfer. All splits, results, code and negative findings are released.

Corridor-Based Monitoring and Emergency Braking Decision for Automated Vehicle Safety

Junnan Pan, Vladislav Nenchev, Mohak Mansharamani, Prodromos Sotiriadis, Ferdinand Englberger

原文摘要

This paper addresses emergency-braking decisions for a redundant safety channel in automated vehicles. The channel is responsible for identifying hazards from sensor data and determining whether braking is necessary, given the constrained computational resources of embedded hardware. We present an emergency-braking approach that uses a predicted motion corridor to filter \ac{lidar} measurements and then decide whether the ego vehicle must brake. \ac{pmcm} constructs a curvature-aware boundary from the planned path and vehicle geometry so that the monitored region contains the full swept body on both straight and curved paths. \ac{gdeta} then decides whether the ego vehicle must command an emergency brake for objects inside this boundary, scoring geometric occupancy and temporal urgency independently. Hard gates permit braking when either source is conclusive; soft-OR arbitration combines partial evidence when neither gate is active. Consecutive-scan confirmation reduces sensitivity to transient measurement noise. Corridor coverage is evaluated in controlled collision simulations and recorded campus driving. Braking decisions are evaluated in Monte Carlo simulations of lead-vehicle braking and transverse-crossing encounters.

MonoLaDN: Language-Guided DeNoising for Monocular 3D Object Detection

Kiet Dang Vu, Cao Le Minh Khoa, Nguyen Viet Tri Pham, An Nguyen Gia, Tam Le Thuc Ho, Duc Dung Nguyen

原文摘要

Monocular 3D object detection offers a low-cost route to 3D perception, but it remains fundamentally ill-posed, since depth must be inferred from a single view. Recent transformer-based detectors learn geometry purely from image features and 3D box annotations, lacking the high-level semantic priors that vision-language models (VLMs) acquire from large-scale pretraining. VLMs offer such priors, but deploying one directly as a detector is impractical due to its heavy inference cost. We propose MonoLaDN, a language-guided denoising framework that transfers the geometric reasoning of a VLM into a monocular 3D detector while keeping the deployed model purely vision-based. During training, a frozen VLM produces structured reasoning about each object's occlusion, depth, dimension, and angle from the image and its ground-truth boxes. We encode this reasoning into queries, perturb them with noise, and train the detector to reconstruct the clean reasoning. Reconstructing the corrupted reasoning forces the detector's depth-guided features to internalize the VLM's geometric priors, so this knowledge remains available even after the reasoning path is discarded at inference, adding no latency or parameters to the deployed model. Experiments on KITTI 3D and nuScenes show that MonoLaDN consistently outperforms state-of-the-art detectors and generalizes well to new domains.

Do Tabular Foundation Models Agree with Themselves?

Christian Klötergens, Vijaya Krishna Yalavarthi, Lars Schmidt-Thieme, Tom Hanika

原文摘要

Tabular Foundation Models (TFMs) are the state of the art for many tabular prediction tasks. They are transformers that approximate the Bayesian posterior predictive distribution under a pretraining prior. TFMs become multivariate predictors autoregressively, by sampling one target and appending it to the features. This paper is the first to evaluate whether this setup induces a valid stochastic process. Informally, we ask: *Do we get the same answer to the same question asked in two different ways?* The standard Kolmogorov consistency conditions cannot be checked on TFMs directly, since TFMs are unable to model certain conditional distributions. We therefore propose two adapted, testable requirements. Marginalization consistency demands that marginalized conditionals equal directly predicted marginals, and factorization consistency that both factorization orders yield the same joint. Since the data-generating distribution satisfies both, a perfect TFM would as well, and every violation lower-bounds how far the model's predictions are from the ground truth. Every TFM we evaluate violates both requirements, for classification and regression, on all datasets.

DyPSI: Dynamic Physics Sensing via Joint Field and Sensor-Trajectory Generation

Yizhou Zhang, Panqi Chen, Lei Cheng, Ting Zhang, Jianlong Li, Jianfeng Shi, Shikai Fang

原文摘要

Physics sensing in evolving environments requires reconstructing dense spatiotemporal fields from sparse observations while adapting where future observations should be collected. Existing reconstruction and sensor-placement methods have made substantial progress, but they typically rely on static sensing assumptions: they either use a single layout across all frames or optimize placements independently at each frame, which limits their ability to produce temporally coherent sensing trajectories. We introduce DyPSI, a dynamic physics sensing framework that formulates this problem as the joint generation of future fields and sensor trajectories conditioned on historical observations. DyPSI lifts discrete sensor coordinates into continuous Sensor Position Fields, encodes fields and sensing configurations with a shared Functional Tucker representation, and trains a joint diffusion model to generate future fields and sensing trajectories simultaneously in the resulting latent space. A Gaussian-process temporal kernel correlates the perturbation injected during diffusion training, biasing the denoiser toward temporally smooth recoveries, and we further provide an analysis linking the EDM training objective to a sequence-aggregated A-optimality criterion and a kernel-induced bound on discrete trajectory variation. Experiments on turbulent flow, GLORYS12 sea-surface temperature, and 3D car aerodynamics show that DyPSI consistently outperforms static and frame-wise placement strategies, with substantial error reduction under tight sensor budgets. The code is available at https://github.com/mengqi132/DyPSI.

Reasoning as Compression: Unifying Budget Forcing via the Conditional Information Bottleneck

Fabio Valerio Massoli, Andrey Kuzmin, Arash Behboodi

原文摘要

Chain-of-Thought (CoT) prompting improves LLM accuracy on complex tasks but often increases token usage and inference cost. Existing ``Budget Forcing'' methods reduce cost via fine-tuning with heuristic length penalties, suppressing both essential reasoning and redundant filler. We recast efficient reasoning as a lossy compression problem under the Information Bottleneck (IB) principle, and identify a key theoretical gap when applying naive IB to transformers: attention violates the Markov property between prompt, reasoning trace, and response. To resolve this issue, we model CoT generation under the Conditional Information Bottleneck (CIB) principle, where the reasoning trace $Z$ acts as a computational bridge that contains only the information about the response $Y$ that is not directly accessible from the prompt $X$. This yields a general Reinforcement Learning objective: maximize task reward while compressing completions under a prior over reasoning traces, subsuming common heuristics (e.g., length penalties) as special cases (e.g., uniform priors). In contrast to naive token-counting approaches, we introduce a semantic prior that measures token cost by surprisal under a language model. Crucially, the prior is queried only for token-level log-probabilities, adding negligible overhead to the training loop. Empirically, our CIB objective prunes reasoning redundancy while preserving fluency and logic, improving accuracy at moderate compression and enabling aggressive compression with minimal accuracy drop. These gains generalize across model families and task domains, confirming CIB as a domain-agnostic CoT compression framework.

Quo Vadis, Driving Scene Reconstruction? Occlusion-Aware Gaussian Densification

Dung Do Tien, Kien Nguyen Do Trung, Kiet Dang Vu, Trung Thai Tran, Duc Dung Nguyen

原文摘要

While recent feed-forward 3D Gaussian Splatting methods enable efficient driving-scene reconstruction from surround-view images, their reliance on a single observation fundamentally hinders novel-view synthesis. Regions occluded in the input can become visible from novel viewpoints, leaving the reconstructed Gaussians under-constrained and incomplete. Moving beyond image-space inpainting for rendered views, we introduce OccSplat, a feed-forward framework whose core contribution is Occlusion-Aware Gaussian Densification, explicitly targeting missing scene geometry rather than missing pixels. By predicting new Gaussian primitives for unsupported regions, OccSplat completes the scene directly in the 3D representation. Specifically, OccSplat first identifies occluded regions that lack Gaussian support through Gaussian Occlusion Mapping. Gaussian Occlusion Completion then generates new primitives for these regions. The predicted primitives are integrated into the original representation to improve novel-view synthesis while retaining feed-forward inference without per-scene optimization. Experiments on the nuScenes benchmark demonstrate that OccSplat improves on the compared methods and yields particularly large gains in occluded regions, leading to more accurate and visually coherent driving-scene reconstruction.

Consistency Learning and Distillation for One-Step MIMO-OFDM Channel Estimation

Fredrik Nguyen, Qiwen Wang

原文摘要

Iterative neural channel estimators can improve recovery under pilot contamination, but repeated network evaluations increase inference cost. This paper develops observation-anchored consistency and Consistency Mid-Training (CMT) estimators for one-step channel estimation in multiple-input multiple-output orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) systems. Both estimators refine pilot-derived least-squares channel estimates in the delay-beam domain. Consistency learning couples endpoint predictions along noisy-to-clean paths. CMT then refines a compact consistency-trained student to predict a flow-matching teacher's endpoint from intermediate trajectory states. Across the evaluated SNR range, the compact CMT student reduces uncoded symbol error rate (SER) by 9.6-20.2% relative to the one-step flow-matching baseline (0.44-0.98 dB in logarithmic SER reduction), while using 74.5% fewer parameters and 73.0% fewer network multiply-accumulates.

NextGAN: Towards Simple and Scalable GAN Training for Image and Video Generation

Xinhao Lou, Dongye Xie, Peng Sun, Chenyi Zhuang, Kaicheng Yu, Tao Lin

原文摘要

Adversarial training enables one- and few-step image and video generation, but conventional adversarial losses supervise critic values without directly specifying the gradients used to update the generator. We present NEXTGAN, which trains a scalar critic by regressing its input gradient onto displacements between independently paired reference and generated features at interpolated locations in frozen representation spaces. For a fixed generator, this regression is equivalent to an adversarial objective with a gradient-energy penalty, while the generator retains the standard potential-based GAN update. The same objective adapts pre-trained image and video generators with up to 14B parameters, without auxiliary losses, online teacher scores, or trajectories. On ImageNet $256 \times 256$, NEXTGAN achieves one-step FIDs of 2.87 with pixel-space JiT-B and 1.54 with latent-space DiT-XL/1; its adversarial form further reaches 1.36. For text-to-video generation, a single trained Wan2.1-1.3B model supports one-, two-, and four-step sampling, achieving the highest VBench total scores among the compared 1.3B methods at one and two steps. At two steps, NEXTGAN scores 83.13, exceeding rCM and AnyFlow by 1.25 and 0.47 points, respectively. Code is available at https://github.com/LINs-lab/NextGAN.git.

Diffusion Models Observe Only Gradients: A Geometric Perspective on Score Matching Errors

Naïl B. Khelifa, Richard E. Turner, Ramji Venkataramanan

原文摘要

Score-based diffusion models are typically trained by minimizing the $L^2$ score matching error, and standard theoretical analyses rely on this quantity to bound the sampling discrepancy between the learned and target distributions. Recent work has shown that the score admits an orthogonal decomposition into gradient and solenoidal components in which only the gradient part matters for exact sampling. We apply this decomposition to the score error of trained models and study its quantitative consequences. Since only the gradient component of the error enters the marginal Fokker-Planck dynamics, a model can incur arbitrarily large $L^2$ score error while perfectly matching the target. Starting from this observation, we present three results. First, we derive an upper bound on the Kullback-Leibler divergence that depends only on the observable gradient component of the error. It tightens the standard Girsanov bound for generic score networks and identifies that bound's looseness as the cost of working with path-space rather than marginal-space dynamics. Second, we prove that no non-trivial function of the $L^2$ score error can uniformly lower bound any divergence between the learned and target distributions. Third, we give an estimator of the gradient component, computable from denoising score matching residuals via a dual Sobolev identity, which empirically correlates substantially better with sample quality than the full $L^2$ error.

Learning Pseudo-Riemannian Manifolds for Heterophilic Graphs via Graph Signature

Yun Young Choi, Asung Kil, Sun Woo Park, Minho Lee, Seokhwan Kim

原文摘要

Several widely used families of Graph Neural Networks carry a positive-definite geometric prior. Graph convolution read as heat diffusion needs a positive semi-definite operator, hyperbolic models place features on positive-definite Riemannian manifolds, and dot-product and GAT-style attention scores use positive-definite inner products. On heterophilic graphs, where edges often signify dissimilarity or structural repulsion, that prior is a mismatch: no positive-definite form can assign a negative squared distance to a direction the labels separate. To measure the mismatch, we introduce the Graph Signature Index ($s_{\mathcal{G}}$), the inertia of a class-compatibility matrix built from label topology alone, and we prove that no value of the edge or node homophily index in $(0,1)$ rules out a negative eigenvalue. We then propose the Pseudo-Riemannian Attention Network (PRAT), whose attention logit is a signed squared pseudo-distance under a learnable diagonal metric initialized from $s_{\mathcal{G}}$. The design is diagnose-then-learn: the signature supplies a sign structure that unconstrained training keeps outside near-zero directions, and the projection learns the rest of the metric around it. Across fifteen node-classification benchmarks PRAT outperforms or matches the strongest heterophily-adapted models. A controlled ablation ties that performance to the sign structure itself: with architecture and protocol fixed, forbidding the metric to be indefinite costs accuracy on the graphs $s_{\mathcal{G}}$ marks as indefinite and leaves the others unchanged.

Welfarist Control Design - How to fulfill the societal mandate in multi-agent control?

Sophie Hall, Kai Zhang, Ilia Shilov, Heinrich H. Nax, Saverio Bolognani

原文摘要

At the core of most socio-technical systems lies a scarce resource that is allocated among agents: highway lanes, public transit, road space, water rights, energy access, grid capacity, user attention, pollution rights, etc. With further automation of the underlying allocation processes, control engineers are increasingly tasked with making decisive assumptions regarding what society wants. In practice to date, design choices are largely driven by industry norms and conventions rather than a result of conscientiously responsible and ethical design. In this paper, we look at tools available to control engineers to design systems in a more principled manner in order to match the societal mandate. We consider three control design paradigms: online feedback optimization, control of Markov decision processes, and model predictive control. Beginning with aggregating individual agents' preferences into control design objectives, subsequently ensuring and certifying the fulfillment of those specifications, we argue that the feedback nature of control systems enables appropriate allocation of the shared resources in ways hitherto unparalleled.

原文摘要

Humans naturally possess the ability to work persistently toward long-term goals. Given a challenging task, humans can continuously work for months or even years to accomplish a specific objective. In this paper, we propose Marathoner, an autonomous agentic model possessing the ability of ultra-long-horizon execution. Specifically, we propose a comprehensive post-training pipeline to instill this critical capability into base model. For Ultra-Long-Horizon Task Synthesis, we leverage major release PRs containing 1000+ lines of new code from diverse GitHub repositories as the primary source for synthesizing challenging task-level data. Additionally, we introduce Multi-Task Chaining, which chains multiple generated tasks into a single more challenging task, enabling the synthesis of tasks with frontier-level difficulty. For rejection sampling finetuning, we combine strong teacher model with diverse harnesses to generate trajectories on our synthesized tasks and conduct supervised finetuning on base model with rejection sampled trajectories. For reinforcement learning, cold-started model performs real-world execution through harnesses in independent sandboxes during rollout process, effectively facilitating the acquisition of genuine ultra-long-horizon execution capability. We further propose a novel reward strategy, Later Stage Bonus Reward, which explicitly encourages model to perform meaningful maneuvers during later stages of execution. Through extensive evaluation on 5 benchmarks containing ultra-long-horizon tasks, Marathoner achieves consistent and substantial performance improvements over base model and even surpasses performance of strong proprietary model. Further analysis shows that Marathoner can consistently work for 10+ hours and conduct 1000+ tool calls on highly challenging tasks.

A Systematic Benchmark for Evaluating Multimodal Personalized Reasoning of Vision-Language Models

Dohyun Kim, Junyong Lhim, Kwanyong Park

原文摘要

People often make decisions by holistically reasoning over heterogeneous forms of personal information. In this paper, we study the relatively underexplored capability of multimodal personalized reasoning in multimodal large language models (MLLMs). To this end, we introduce \texttt{MPRBench}, a novel and comprehensive benchmark specifically designed to evaluate personalized reasoning across a wide range of tasks and real-world challenges. \texttt{MPRBench} consists of 12 sub-tasks and additionally supports interpretable analysis of representative error cases. Through extensive experiments, we find that current personalized MLLMs still struggle with personalized reasoning due to several key challenges, including inaccurate recognition of personalized concepts and sensitivity to irrelevant personal information. We hope that MPRBench will stimulate further research on personalized reasoning in MLLMs. Code and data are available at https://github.com/kkdh15/MPRBench

CrossPressor: Scalable Cross-View Fusion for Feed-Forward 3D Gaussian Splatting

Yuxi Hu, Wenhao Dong, Jun Zhang, Friedrich Fraundorfer

原文摘要

Feed-forward 3D Gaussian Splatting (3D-GS) becomes increasingly difficult to scale to long multi-view sequences. Anchor-based compression methods such as ZPressor alleviate representation growth by decoding Gaussians only from a compact set of anchor feature maps, but keeping these anchors fixed forces each one to aggregate an increasing number of support views. We identify this representation--fusion mismatch and introduce \textbf{CrossPressor}, a training-free method for scalable anchor-based fusion. CrossPressor preserves all decoder-facing anchor queries while constraining the view-growing support sequence through coverage-cycled evidence routing, distributing retained spatial evidence across support views and fusion layers while keeping all support views represented. Routing before K/V projection, together with joint context packing, further reduces support-side fusion cost without retraining. CrossPressor maintains reconstruction quality close to dense fusion while achieving up to $26.12\times$ faster cross-view fusion and $1.43\times$ end-to-end acceleration on long input sequences. Analysis of Local Open-Weight LLM Agents on Vulnerability-Reproduction Tasks

Jorge García-Carrasco, Javier Sanchis, Álvaro Navarro, Alejandro Maté, Juan Trujillo

原文摘要

Open-weight language models that fit on a single consumer GPU are becoming capable on a growing range of tasks, and they matter because they can run locally without sending the code to a hosted service. Vulnerability reproduction, turning a vulnerability description into an input that crashes the vulnerable build, is a natural target for them, since it is an automated analysis task closer to test generation than to code comprehension and it runs against a build that must be executed rather than read. In order to assess whether current models can perform it, we evaluate twelve configurations of local models, spanning three generations, two architectures and three quantization levels, on ten CyberGym vulnerability-reproduction tasks, three runs each under one harness, and release the full artefact. We show that every configuration, down to the 4B model, solves most of the six easier tasks, and configurations separate only on the remaining four. For the harder tasks, the 27B model is required. Quantization did not change what the models solved in any matched pair, but it changed how fast they got there, and the mixture of experts reached the same scores in less wall clock. We also examine the agent trajectories. Almost every run we examined, including those that fail, names the vulnerable function and states the correct hypothesis, and what separates a solved task from an unsolved one is whether that hypothesis becomes a working input.

Learning Noise Optimization for Reward Alignment in Few-Step Generative Models

Hongeun Kim, Jeongsol Kim, Jong Chul Ye

原文摘要

Reward alignment for diffusion- and flow-based generative models is often formulated over stochastic trajectories, making it less suitable for few-step deterministic generators. Initial noise optimization provides a trajectory-free alternative, but existing gradient-free methods require costly per-sample search at inference. We introduce LeNO (Learning Noise Optimization), which amortizes reward-guided initial noise optimization into a learned residual transport while keeping the pretrained generator frozen. LeNO learns an anchor-conditioned distribution over noise corrections using Local GRPO and scalar rewards, eliminating iterative test-time optimization. For Gaussian initial noise with norm-preserving projection, we derive a tractable upper bound on the KL divergence between the corrected noise distribution and the original prior, providing a principled regularization objective. We evaluate LeNO on few-step text-to-image and protein structure generation, including expensive black-box designability rewards. Across both domains, LeNO improves target rewards with a single noise correction at inference while largely preserving generation quality and diversity.

A Graph-Based Conceptual Modeling Framework to Design for Human-Robot Coordination

Martijn IJtsma, Salvatore Hargis

原文摘要

Studies of human-robot interaction in dynamic and unstructured environments show that as more advanced robotic capabilities are deployed, the need for cooperative competencies to support collaboration with human problem-holders increases. Designing human-robot systems to meet these demands requires an explicit understanding of the work functions and constraints that shape the feasibility of alternative joint work strategies. Yet existing human-robot interaction frameworks either emphasize computational support for real-time execution or rely on static representations for design, offering limited support for reasoning about coordination dynamics during early-stage conceptual design. To address this gap, this article presents a novel computational framework for analyzing joint work strategies in human-robot systems by integrating techniques from functional modeling with graph-theoretic representations. The framework characterizes collective work in terms of the relationships among system functions and the physical and informational structure of the work environment, while explicitly capturing how coordination demands evolve over time. Its use in conceptual design is demonstrated through a case study in disaster robotics, which shows how the framework can be used to support early trade-space exploration of human-robot coordination strategies and to identify cooperative competencies that support flexible management of coordination overhead. These results show how the framework makes coordination demands and their temporal evolution explicit, supporting design-time reasoning about cooperative competency requirements and work demands prior to implementation.

HarnessFlow: MCTS-Guided Harness Optimization for LLM Agents

原文摘要

The performance of large language model (LLM) agents depends on both the underlying model and the harness that governs interaction with tools and the environment. Yet harness design remains largely manual, and automating it requires navigating an open-ended search space through costly end-to-end evaluations. We introduce HarnessFlow, a framework for optimizing complete executable harnesses under a limited candidate-evaluation budget, with the model and task environment held fixed. HarnessFlow organizes candidates and their evaluation histories in a refinement tree, using a Monte Carlo Tree Search (MCTS)-based policy to balance exploitation and exploration. A coding agent refines selected harnesses using archived code, execution feedback, and a library of reusable harness mechanisms. With 15 refinement attempts per benchmark, HarnessFlow achieves the highest mean test scores among the compared methods on six benchmarks spanning agentic tasks, coding, and web interaction. The optimized harnesses achieve an average score of 69.48%, outperforming the initial harnesses and Meta-Harness by 10.89 and 3.95 percentage points, respectively, while incurring lower average per-task execution costs than hand-engineered baselines. These results suggest that structured harness search offers a promising route toward automating the design of capable and efficient LLM agents.

SEAR: Sample Efficient Action Chunking Reinforcement Learning

C. F. Maximilian Nagy, Onur Celik, Emiliyan Gospodinov, Florian Seligmann, Weiran Liao, Aryan Kaushik, Gerhard Neumann

原文摘要

Action chunking improves exploration and accelerates value propagation in long-horizon reinforcement learning, but naively applying off-policy methods to the temporally extended action space at reduced decision frequency offsets these gains, leading to poor sample efficiency. Existing online action chunking methods address these issues through computationally expensive critic-only approaches or by relying on offline data. We introduce SEAR, a sample-efficient off-policy algorithm that enables online reinforcement learning with action chunks by addressing both challenges. To handle high-dimensional action sequences, SEAR employs a causal transformer critic trained with multi-horizon targets that provide a training signal for every prefix of an action chunk, effectively increasing the useful gradients per sample. To restore decision frequency, SEAR operates with a receding horizon and random replanning, ensuring uniform state coverage while combining the fast value propagation of large chunks with the reactivity of small ones. SEAR outperforms state-of-the-art online reinforcement learning methods including SimbaV2 on challenging Metaworld manipulation tasks. Beyond online RL, applying SEAR to the offline-to-online method QC improves its performance on the demanding OGBench cube-triple tasks.

Every finite group admits a just finite presentation

Marc Lackenby

原文摘要

A finite presentation < X | R > of a finite group is called `just finite' if removing any relation from R results in a presentation for an infinite group. It has been an open question (Kourovka Notebook, Problem 21.10) whether every finite group admits such a presentation. We resolve this conjecture in the affirmative.

CAPE-JEPA - Cross-modal Adversarial Probabilistic Embedding JEPA

Aniket Junghare, Biplab Banerjee

原文摘要

Cross-modal remote sensing image retrieval (RS-CMIR) requires representations that are simultaneously modality-invariant and semantically discriminative, despite the profound physical gap between heterogeneous sensors such as Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and multispectral imagery. Recent JEPA-based Predictive self-supervised approaches such as X-JEPA formulate cross-modal alignment as a deterministic latent forecasting task, implicitly assuming uniform patch predictability and leaving cross-modal distributional alignment unaddressed. We propose CAPE-JEPA, a probabilistic cross-modal Joint Embedding Predictive Architecture with three contributions: (i) a cross-attentional Gaussian predictor outputting per-patch parameters (mu, sigma^2) conditioned on opposite-modality context, trained via negative log-likelihood to model inherent cross-sensor prediction uncertainty; (ii) adversarial distributional regularization combining unimodal isotropic Gaussian regularization with a novel cross-modal adversarial variant that aligns modality distributions via worst-case Epps-Pulley characteristic function tests without explicit sample pairing; and (iii) in-training contrastive learning with attention-pooled heads for scene-level discriminative grounding. Evaluated on BigEarthNet-14K (BEN-14K) and fMoW across SAR, multispectral, and RGB modalities, CAPE-JEPA surpasses X-JEPA by up to 13.74 points on BEN-14K and 15.59 points on fMoW, outperforming all baselines including SkySense and CROMA across both unimodal and cross-modal directions while using fewer parameters (407.30M vs. 432.72M).
