We present PhysInsert, a framework for physically plausible reference-based object insertion that jointly adapts objects and their surrounding scenes. Existing methods often rely on masked inputs, generation-based pairs, or training pairs with limited viewpoint variation, leaving pose and illumination adaptation and bidirectional object-scene interactions insufficiently constrained. We construct the Insert World dataset with strictly aligned Blender-rendered counterfactual pairs and object references across viewpoints and lighting conditions. Building on these data, Geometry-Guided Adaptation couples a VGGT geometry stream with image and text streams under target-scene feature supervision to guide spatially consistent insertion. Complementary 2D Object-Scene Spatial Supervision jointly supervises object occupancy and environmental changes while grounding spatial instructions in object regions through image-text attention. We introduce PhysInsert-Bench with dedicated cross-environment and cross-view cases requiring illumination and pose adaptation beyond appearance copying. Experiments on PhysInsert-Bench and DreamBooth demonstrate improved image fidelity; a user study further shows more accurate placement and improved lighting integration, perspective, and pose plausibility.
When the number of training samples is smaller than the dimension, discriminant analysis faces a singular within-class scatter matrix, and fused objectives that combine the total variance C, the between-class scatter S_b and the within-class scatter S_w are one way to handle it. Using the seven variants of Kernelized Linear Principal Component Discriminant Analysis (KLPCDA) as a platform, we derive the structure of such objectives in this small-sample-size (SSS) setting. The training projections split into a class-mean part and a within-class part, the two scatter operators satisfy WB = 0, and all between-class information lies in the null space of S_w. A single fusion coefficient therefore cannot change the solution, and the variants, KPCA, the regularized kernel Fisher discriminant and the null space methods lie on the boundary of one family with two parameters, the fusion ratio t and a ridge parameter mu. On six tasks from five application domains, the regularized members were more accurate than the best of the seven variants chosen on validation data on all six tasks, by 0.8 to 5.7 points, also under added noise, whereas the fusion ratio gave no gain, including in controlled experiments on dimension ratio, class imbalance and class separation. Selecting a variant per task could gain less than one point, while a fixed choice made on other tasks transferred to every held-out task. The analysis thus gives a principled default for SSS kernel discriminant analysis, with diagnostic quantities, the null space dimension and the class-size spectrum, that can be computed before training.

While Large Language Models (LLMs) enable complex autonomous behavior, current agents remain constrained by static, human-designed prompts that limit adaptability. Existing self-improving frameworks attempt to bridge this gap but typically rely on inefficient, multi-turn recursive loops that incur high computational costs. To address this, we propose Metacognitive Agent with Reflective Self-improvement (MARS), a framework that achieves efficient self-evolution within a single recurrence cycle. Inspired by educational psychology, MARS mimics human learning by integrating principle-based reflection (abstracting normative rules to avoid errors) and procedural reflection (deriving step-by-step strategies for success). By synthesizing these insights into optimized instructions, MARS allows agents to systematically refine their reasoning logic without continuous online feedback. Extensive experiments on six benchmarks demonstrate that MARS outperforms state-of-the-art self-evolving systems while significantly reducing computational overhead. Hallucination in large language models (LLMs) continues to be a significant issue, particularly in tasks like question answering, where models often generate plausible yet incorrect or irrelevant information. Although various methods have been proposed to mitigate hallucinations, the relationship between attention patterns and hallucinations has not been fully explored. In this paper, we analyze the distribution of attention scores across each layer and attention head of LLMs, revealing a common and intriguing phenomenon: Shallow layers of LLMs primarily rely on uniform attention patterns, where the model distributes its attention evenly across the entire sequence. This uniform attention pattern can lead to hallucinations, as the model fails to focus on the most relevant information. To mitigate this issue, we propose a training-free method called Attention Replacement Technique (ART), which replaces these uniform attention patterns in the shallow layers with local attention patterns. This change directs the model to focus more on the relevant contexts, thus reducing hallucinations. Through extensive experiments, ART demonstrates significant reductions in hallucinations across multiple LLM architectures, proving its effectiveness and generalizability without requiring fine-tuning or additional training data.

Large Language Models (LLMs) that can continually improve beyond their training budgets are able to solve increasingly difficult problems by adapting at test time, a property we refer to as extrapolation. However, standard reinforcement learning (RL) operates over fixed problem distributions and training budgets, which limits extrapolation amidst distribution shift at test time. To address this, we introduce RC, an iterative decoding algorithm that replaces standard autoregressive decoding during both training and inference. RC exploits an asymmetry between the response generation and summarization capabilities of LLMs to construct reasoning chains that consistently improve across iterations. Models trained to use RC can extrapolate and continually improve over reasoning horizons more than an order of magnitude longer than those seen during training. Empirically, training a 4B model with RC using a 16k-token training budget improves performance on HMMT 2025 from 40% to nearly 70% with 0.5m tokens at test time, outperforming both comparably sized models and many larger reasoning LLMs. Finally, we also show that models trained with RC can more effectively leverage existing scaffolds to further scale test-time performance, due to the improved summary-conditioned generation abilities learned through training.

Modern language agents must operate over long-horizon, multi-turn interactions, where they retrieve external information, adapt to observations, and answer interdependent queries. Yet, most LLM systems rely on full-context prompting, appending all past turns regardless of their relevance. This leads to unbounded memory growth, increased computational costs, and degraded reasoning performance on out-of-distribution input lengths. We introduce MEM1, an end-to-end reinforcement learning framework that enables agents to operate with constant memory across long multi-turn tasks. At each turn, MEM1 updates a compact shared internal state that jointly supports memory consolidation and reasoning. This state integrates prior memory with new observations from the environment while strategically discarding irrelevant or redundant information. To support training in more realistic and compositional settings, we propose a simple yet effective and scalable approach to constructing multi-turn environments by composing existing datasets into arbitrarily complex task sequences. Experiments across three domains, including internal retrieval QA, open-domain web QA, and multi-turn web shopping, show that MEM1-7B improves performance by 3.5x while reducing memory usage by 3.7x compared to Qwen2.5-14B-Instruct on a 16-objective multi-hop QA task, and generalizes beyond the training horizon. Our results demonstrate the promise of reasoning-driven memory consolidation as a scalable alternative to existing solutions for training long-horizon interactive agents, where both efficiency and performance are optimized.
