PhysInsert:基于几何先验与双向物体-场景交互的物理合理物体插入

PhysInsert: Physically Plausible Object Insertion with Geometric Priors and Bidirectional Object-Scene Interactions

AI 速览:提出 PhysInsert 框架,通过几何引导适配与双向物体-场景空间监督,实现参考图像驱动的物理合理物体插入。

We present PhysInsert, a framework for physically plausible reference-based object insertion that jointly adapts objects and their surrounding scenes. Existing methods often rely on masked inputs, generation-based pairs, or training pairs with limited viewpoint variation, leaving pose and illumination adaptation and bidirectional object-scene interactions insufficiently constrained. We construct the Insert World dataset with strictly aligned Blender-rendered counterfactual pairs and object references across viewpoints and lighting conditions. Building on these data, Geometry-Guided Adaptation couples a VGGT geometry stream with image and text streams under target-scene feature supervision to guide spatially consistent insertion. Complementary 2D Object-Scene Spatial Supervision jointly supervises object occupancy and environmental changes while grounding spatial instructions in object regions through image-text attention. We introduce PhysInsert-Bench with dedicated cross-environment and cross-view cases requiring illumination and pose adaptation beyond appearance copying. Experiments on PhysInsert-Bench and DreamBooth demonstrate improved image fidelity; a user study further shows more accurate placement and improved lighting integration, perspective, and pose plausibility.

从结构化教科书扩展数学证明监督

Scaling Mathematical Proof Supervision from Structured Textbooks

AI 速览:将2,118本大学数学教科书转化为约38万条保留章节顺序与命题-证明结构的证明监督记录,并研究课程学习与规模规律。

Mathematical supervision for language models is typically flattened into isolated problem-solution pairs, discarding the curricular organization and evidential structure of the original sources. We introduce TOME-Math (Textbook-Oriented Mathematical Evidence), a large-scale corpus that converts 2,118 textbooks spanning the core areas of university-level mathematics subjects into approximately 380K structured proof-supervision records while preserving chapter order, proposition-proof links, dependency references, and source provenance. Leveraging these structural signals, we explore curriculum learning across multiple mathematical subjects and characterize scaling patterns with supervision volume and source breadth. At full scale, fine-tuning on TOME-Math raises the unweighted mean score across our held-out evaluations and established public benchmarks by 16.7 percentage points over the base model, while exceeding all three public instruction-data baselines evaluated in aggregate. Our findings highlight structured textbooks as both a scalable source of mathematical supervision and an empirical framework for studying the impact of data organization on mathematical reasoning. We will release the corpus to facilitate further research on structured mathematical supervision.

TAU-R1: Visual Language Model for Traffic Anomaly Understanding

Yuqiang Lin, Kehua Chen, Sam Lockyer, Arjun Yadav, Mingxuan Sui, Shucheng Zhang, Yan Shi, Bingzhang Wang 等 15 位作者

Traffic Anomaly Understanding (TAU) is important for traffic safety in Intelligent Transportation Systems. Recent vision-language models (VLMs) have shown strong capabilities in video understanding. However, progress on TAU remains limited due to the lack of benchmarks and task-specific methodologies. To address this limitation, we introduce Roundabout-TAU, a dataset constructed from real-world roundabout videos collected in collaboration with the City of Carmel, Indiana. The dataset contains 342 clips and is annotated with more than 2,000 question-answer pairs covering multiple aspects of traffic anomaly understanding. Building on this benchmark, we propose TAU-R1, a two-layer vision-language framework for TAU. The first layer is a lightweight anomaly classifier that performs coarse anomaly categorisation, while the second layer is a larger anomaly reasoner that generates detailed event summaries. To improve task-specific reasoning, we introduce a two-stage training strategy consisting of decomposed-QA-enhanced supervised fine-tuning followed by TAU-GRPO, a GRPO-based post-training method with TAU-specific reward functions. Experimental results show that TAU-R1 achieves strong performance on both anomaly classification and reasoning tasks while maintaining deployment efficiency. The dataset and code are available at: https://github.com/siri-rouser/TAU-R1

Breadcrumbing Search Agents: Per-Turn Scheming Over Long-Horizon Trajectories

Xuebin Li, Hanqing Zhao, Siyuan Liang, Kejiang Chen, Weiming Zhang, Dacheng Tao, Nenghai Yu

LLM-based search agents are widely used for information-seeking tasks, but their reliance on external tool returns introduces a critical security risk: web content retrieved during execution is untrusted, exposing agents to prompt injection and goal hijacking. Prior work on search-agent safety primarily focuses on static web-content injection, but modern agents issue follow-up queries and cross-check competing sources, so a single injected page is often diluted or rejected. We show that the channel delivering search and page observations is a fragile security boundary: beyond exposing the agent to a single poisoned page, a mediated search interface can repeatedly steer how the agent gathers evidence and forms its final answer. Under a constrained tool-intermediary threat model, appending only one controlled result per query can substantially increase attack success when the evidence is coordinated across the agent's trajectory. We study this setting with a strategy-driven long-horizon attack system and introduce Authority-Chain Hijack (ACH), an expert-refined strategy that turns isolated search-result and page-content manipulations into a coherent evidence chain across seemingly corroborating sources. ACH achieves the highest Overall ASR among all baselines, reaching 55.9% / 83.3% ASR / MaxN ASR on the full SafeSearch test split. We further introduce Trace-Guided Strategy Evolution (TGSE), which automatically improves attacker strategies from execution traces, replacing manual redesign with trace-driven refinement; its strongest single setting reaches 71.4% / 95.0% in held-out evaluation. Code is available at https://github.com/MBOSSLESS/Breadcrumbing-Search-Agents.

SocialArena: Evaluating Social Intelligence in Large Language Models

Zongqi Wang, Rui Wang, Yuchuan Wu, Hua Yang, Bingxue Qiu, Tianle Gu, Bing Zhao, Yujiu Yang 等 10 位作者

We introduce SocialArena, a benchmark for systematically defining and evaluating the social intelligence of large language models (LLMs). Although LLMs are increasingly deployed in socially interactive applications such as mental health counseling, companionship chatbots, and educational tutoring, existing evaluations remain fragmented focusing on isolated capabilities or single scenarios and evaluation reliability is largely unverified. This work makes three main contributions to address these limitations. (1) We first propose a unified three-tier framework that defines social intelligence along three capability dimensions: role-playing ability, mental state reasoning, and behavioral reasoning. To operationalize this definition, we design a role-playing dialogue paradigm with explicit character thinking for evaluation, enabling simultaneous assessment of these capabilities in a manner that mirrors realistic human interactions. (2) To ensure diversity across social scenarios and thereby prevent evaluation conclusions from being confined to specific scenarios, we introduce the U-TRIMF framework, which guides us in synthesizing social contexts with broad coverage. (3) To obtain reliable evaluation, we invest $132.4K to recruit and train human annotators and adopt a human-annotated arena-style protocol, where annotators compare model responses and provide preference labels along with natural-language critiques. We hope that SocialArena can provide valuable insights and guidance for future LLM improvements.

PALATE: Pretrained Autoregressive LATent Embeddings

Sizhang Zhao, Praveen Gondhi, Bin Li, Utsaw Kumar

Local-commerce and food-delivery marketplaces run large ads businesses: across hundreds of thousands of stores, merchants pay to be surfaced on browse and search surfaces, and a ranker decides which ads each consumer sees. Ranking well demands strong per-consumer personalization, yet a consumer's raw interaction history is sparse and high-cardinality. Our production ranker had personalized only through hand-engineered signals: aggregate engagement counts, categorical embeddings, and order-agnostic pooled history, with no learned per-consumer sequence representation. We learn one by training a GPT-style generative model of the consumer's engagement sequence to predict their next few engagements, and read its last-token hidden state as the consumer embedding. That single frozen vector becomes one shared personalization input for every ad surface: a daily job refreshes it, and each ranker consumes it as an ordinary dense feature. Offline it is the largest single-feature gain in our ranking-AUC ladder, a relative Eval-AUC gain of +0.59% on a browse-driven feed and +0.57% on a query-driven search surface. Online, it shipped as one component of bundled ranker retrains on both surfaces: Discovery (revenue +0.79%, conversion rate +1.17%) and Search (revenue +0.94%, conversion rate +1.50%). Three design choices adapt the generative objective to a repurchase-heavy marketplace, and are the core of our contribution: an exploration-weighted loss that up-weights businesses new to the consumer over ones already engaged; a two-stage curriculum: a click pretrain that keeps the representation broad and exploratory, then a conversion fine-tune that sharpens purchase intent; and a designed negative set that pairs a fixed popular-business pool and businesses shown but not ordered with random and in-batch negatives.

A-RSI: Adaptive Task Refresh for Zero-Data Multimodal Self-Improvement

Yu Liu, Youxing Li, Yuedong Tan, Zhiwei Yang, Zihan Su, Hanqi Feng, Shaojie Zhang, Libin Liao 等 20 位作者

Recursive self-improvement requires models not only to acquire useful training experience, but also to decide when their current experience has ceased to be useful. Existing methods often focus on what experience to generate next, while paying less attention to when fresh experience should be introduced. Many also construct training targets through self-consistency or majority voting, making supervision depend on the model's own uncertain predictions. We address these two questions separately: training dynamics determine when to acquire new experience, while the answers to new tasks remain independently checkable. A-RSI monitors reward variation and accuracy in training logs to refresh a task pool when its learning signal declines, without consulting validation or test scores. A static library of model-authored programs produces multimodal questions and derives their reference answers; we specify the task-generation contract, automatically verify chosen properties of the reward and refresh rules, and separately audit the generated answers. The training loop uses no external training examples or human-written answer labels. On the primary eleven-benchmark suite, A-RSI raises the performance average from 57.77 to 61.05 with 800 fresh tasks.

Co-Evolving Policy and Rubric via Capability Awareness for Open-Ended Generation

Chengsheng Zhang, Wenshen Xu, Yuchuan Wu, Zhiyuan Yu, Junfeng Fang, Tianlong Wang, Bingxue Qiu, Yongbin Li 等 9 位作者

Rubric-based reinforcement learning (RL) offers interpretable, fine-grained supervision for aligning large language models (LLMs) on open-ended generation tasks. However, static rubric criteria may become saturated or remain beyond the policy's exploration, rendering the reward signals insufficiently discriminative. While recent efforts seek to guide sampling exploration or evolve rubrics, they fail to explicitly factor in how rubric difficulty should track the evolving policy's capabilities, resulting in a persistent mismatch between the optimization objective and the policy's current capability frontier. In this paper, we propose \textbf{Co}-Evolving Policy and Rubric via \textbf{C}apability \textbf{A}wareness (\textbf{CoCA}), a closed-loop framework that jointly adapts the rubric and policy through criterion-level diagnosis. Specifically, CoCA contrasts query-only and rubric-guided rollouts to characterize each criterion relative to the current policy, recalibrates criteria with mismatched difficulty, and identifies guidance-revealed capability gaps for frontier-based learning. Based on this insight, CoCA either expands rubric-conditioned frontiers through guided optimization or transfers qualified gains through on-policy self-distillation. As the policy updates, CoCA improves the capability diagnosis and enables more reliable distillation, thereby completing the co-evolution loop. Extensive experiments across diverse benchmarks and LLMs demonstrate that CoCA consistently improves performance over rubric-based RL methods. Moreover, CoCA promotes the internalization of guidance-revealed capabilities into query-only behavior while mitigating capability degradation.

UBTree: Parallel Tree Drafting via Unigram and Bigram Models for Speculative Decoding

Chumeng Liang, Linxuan Wang, Xinyu Peng, Huabin Liu, XiaoXu Guo, Yuxin Chen, Ge Liu, Guang Lin 等 10 位作者

Speculative decoding accelerates language model inference by verifying multiple draft tokens in a single target-model pass. Recent parallel drafters have achieved breakthrough performance in frontier production models, but their effectiveness deteriorates as the entropy of target distributions increases due to insufficient draft diversity. To overcome this bottleneck without sacrificing parallelism, we introduce UBTree, a parallel drafter that couples a Unigram proposer with a Bigram selector to construct drafting Trees. The unigram proposer is trained with the standard cross-entropy objective to generate candidate tokens independently for each position, while a lightweight bigram selector predicts transition scores between adjacent candidate pairs. Unlike the proposer, the selector is trained with a renormalized KL objective on high-temperature data. This tree-native training broadens the supervision beyond the greedy path, encouraging plausible alternative branches that improve the chance of accepting additional tokens during tree verification. Across seven standardized benchmarks with Qwen3-4B and Qwen3-8B, UBTree achieves an average speedup of $5.84$--$6.94\times$ over autoregressive decoding and outperforms DARTree in all 28 comparisons. Production-scale evaluation further demonstrates UBTree's advantage over frontier baselines such as DSpark.

Too Hard, Too Easy, Just Right: Performance-Driven Challenge Adaptation in Virtual Reality Firefighter Training

Xuan Wang, Jianan Jiang, Rongqian Chen, Tian Lan, Bin Li

Effective firefighter training requires practice under dynamic and stressful emergency conditions, yet real-world live-fire exercises are costly, risky, and difficult to scale. Virtual Reality (VR) offers a safe and controllable alternative, but many existing VR firefighter training systems rely on fixed scenarios or provide limited difficulty adaptation, making it difficult to maintain an appropriate level of challenge for skill development as trainees' performance changes over time. To address this limitation, we present ProACT, a performance-driven adaptive training system that regulates scenario difficulty through closed-loop interactions between trainee performance and simulated fire dynamics. Specifically, ProACT combines a global module that continuously adjusts scene-level fire spread dynamics in real time based on trainee performance with a local module that periodically updates object-level flammability across the environment. Our evaluation shows that ProACT improves both objective training performance and subjective user experience compared with existing adaptive and non-adaptive baselines. We further discuss how adaptive immersive environments can extend beyond firefighting to broader training domains.

Theory on Attention Dynamics for Out-of-Distribution In-Context Learning

Junze Deng, Daouda Sow, Sen Lin, Yingbin Liang

Transformers have demonstrated remarkable in-context learning (ICL) capabilities, enabling them to perform new tasks without additional fine-tuning. However, their performance often deteriorates when encountering out-of-distribution (OOD) inputs that deviate from the training distribution, and the underlying theory remains poorly understood. To fill this gap, we characterize the OOD error under the input distribution shift through the interplay between the dynamics of the so-called $α$-type and $β$-type attention weights, which represent the transformer's confidence in identifying the correct and incorrect features, respectively. Our results indicate that the OOD error for each feature depends on all pairwise interactions between the training features and OOD features, and under certain cases the transformer performs no better than random guessing. To improve the OOD generalization performance, we next investigate the impact of model fine-tuning with the OOD data, and particularly, characterize the model forgetting performance on the source domain. Interestingly, the performance on the source domain may not always degrade after fine-tuning, which highly depends on the nature of the feature shift: fine-tuning on OOD domain keeps enhancing the confidence of identifying correct features from the original distribution, while the interference from other incorrect features may either increase or decrease. Extensive experiments on both synthetic and real data are conducted to corroborate the theoretical insights.

Venus-DefakerOne2: A Vision-Forensics Foundation Model with Broader Coverage

Chenfan Qu, Yachao Liang, Mingqi Fang, Jiangwei Xie, Zhenming Wang, Baoyue Zhang, Changjiang Jiang, Zheng Chang 等 30 位作者

Real-world forgery is inherently heterogeneous: it manifests not only as digital manipulation but also as physical spoofing, and is carried not only by images but also by videos. Despite substantial progress, a unified anti-forgery foundation model covering such a broad threat spectrum remains absent. In this paper, we present Venus-DefakerOne2, which substantially extends the forensic capability boundary along both the forgery-form and media-type dimensions. Trained on tens of millions of open-source and in-house samples, it incorporates two key designs. Tide-Style-Tuning alternates LoRA and full-parameter fine-tuning to balance computational efficiency, generalization, and hard-sample fitting while mitigating catastrophic forgetting. Entropy-based Test Adaptation determines the optimal prediction modality by analyzing prediction entropy. Venus-DefakerOne2 achieves new state-of-the-art performance across a comprehensive suite of benchmarks, including DeepFake faces (96.7%), AI-generated images (93.3%), tampered documents (87.6%), manipulated natural images (89.6%), physical spoofs (93.1%), and AI-generated videos (96.0%). It significantly outperforms both specialized expert models and its predecessor, DefakerOne, establishing itself as a powerful and versatile foundation model for binary-decision forensic tasks.

MvT: Event-based Multi-view Projection for Multiple Object Tracking

Muxi Zha, Banglei Guan, Minzu Liang, Zibin Liu, Yang Shang, Qifeng Yu, Laurent Kneip

Event cameras are increasingly used for Multiple Object Tracking (MOT), but their asynchronous event output often requires specialized methods. Existing processing methods primarily follow two paradigms, pseudo-frames and event-by-event. The former is the prevailing approach since its data format aligns with images, making image-based techniques applicable. However, it suffers from tracking failures when trajectories overlap or are spatially close on pseudo-frames. Facing this challenge, we propose a multi-view pipeline, Multi-view Tracking (MvT), which preserves the 2D data format to leverage image-based techniques directly while introducing additional spatio-temporal views to resolve tracking ambiguities in a single view. MvT comprises a Multi-view Projection (MvP) module and a Multi-view Fusion (MvF) stage. MvP encodes events into three complementary spatio-temporal views while mitigating the pattern discretization. Within MvF, multi-view results are unified into a 3D coordinate system, and tracklets are associated through an optimization model subject to specific criteria combination. Evaluations on four datasets, including our self-collected Small Objects Dataset (SOD), show that MvT seamlessly integrates image-based methods and outperforms existing non-learning and learning trackers in generalized scenarios, and effectively resolves the single-view tracking ambiguities. Being training-free, MvT is applicable when ground-truth annotation is infeasible, thereby highlighting its practical, data-efficient potential. Code is available at https://github.com/zhazhabiu/MvTracking.

Democratizing LLM Training with the Edge: Challenges, Systems, and the Road Ahead

Ziyue Luo, Jiaxuan Cai, Cedric LeDenmat, Srijith Nair, Fatemeh Nourzad, Rohith Krishnan, Qinhang Wu, Jifan Zhang 等 30 位作者

The growing computational power of modern GPU data centers has let a few industrial giants train and deploy large language models (LLMs) on massive amounts of data. Yet the sheer scale of these models and their training data makes centralized development increasingly hard to sustain, and at the same time shuts out smaller institutions that hold relevant private data but lack comparable infrastructure. In this paper, we organize our positions on distributed LLM training around the pretraining and fine-tuning paradigms, covering federated learning, split learning, and decentralized approaches, and we assess their readiness for geo-distributed settings with heterogeneous hardware and unreliable connectivity. We then present a {\em unified} system architecture built around a cloud-hosted parameter server that coordinates heterogeneous clients over outbound gRPC connections, reusing one communication, compression, and fault-tolerance stack for both pretraining and a family of fine-tuning methods. We validate the design with real geo-distributed experiments on GPT-2 Medium and Llama3-1B pretraining across multiple university sites, showing stable convergence under realistic conditions. Finally, we chart the road ahead, identifying open problems that span frontier model support, elastic fault tolerance, adaptive compression, federated alignment, privacy and trust, incentive design, and system--algorithm co-design, all of which must be addressed to make democratized LLM training a reality.

FGD2HF: Frequency-guided Dual-domain Hypergraph Fusion for Semantic Segmentation

Xiaofan Yang, Wei Pan, Yubin Liu, Junyu Wu, Junming Zhang, Jie Zhao

Frequency-domain information is beneficial for semantic segmentation. However, existing frequency-based methods often suffer from insufficient frequency utilization, inefficient fusion, and high computational complexity. To address these issues, we propose FGD2HF, a dual-domain fusion network that leverages frequency features to guide spatial-domain fusion and enhancement. Specifically, we introduce a novel Hybrid-Attention Encoder (NAHA) that jointly models local and global relationships through neighborhood and hypergraph attention, enhancing the network's ability to extract effective features. We further introduce a Wavelet Transform and Enhancement (WTE) module to extract and refine low- and high-frequency cues from preceding-stage features, followed by Frequency-guided Dual-domain Fusion (FGDF) modules that use frequency cues to condition current-stage spatial grouping and feature propagation. This design incorporates both global and local frequency guidance into spatial feature modulation, enhancement and fusion with low computational cost. Extensive comparisons with numerous state-of-the-art semantic segmentation methods demonstrate that our method is highly competitive. Our full FGD2HF-B model achieves 48.7% mIoU on ADE20K (+0.3% over SegMAN-B with 18% fewer GFLOPs), 83.2% mIoU on Cityscapes (comparable to SegMAN-B with 21% fewer GFLOPs), and 1.1% higher mIoU than VWFormer-T on SBD with 21% fewer GFLOPs, while also achieving significant improvements in boundary segmentation accuracy.

SymbolicThought: Integrating Language Models and Symbolic Reasoning for Consistent and Interpretable Human Relationship Understanding

Runcong Zhao, Qinglin Zhu King's College London, University of London, Hainiu Xu, Bin Liang The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Lin Gui King's College London, University of London, Yulan He King's College London, University of London

Understanding character relationships is essential for interpreting complex narratives and conducting socially grounded AI research. However, manual annotation is time-consuming and low in coverage, while large language models (LLMs) often produce hallucinated or logically inconsistent outputs. We present SymbolicThought, a human-in-the-loop framework that combines LLM-based extraction with symbolic reasoning. The system constructs editable character relationship graphs, refines them using seven types of logical constraints, and enables real-time validation and conflict resolution through an interactive interface. To support logical supervision and explainable social analysis, we release a dataset of 160 interpersonal relationships with corresponding logical structures. Experiments show that SymbolicThought improves annotation accuracy and consistency while significantly reducing time cost, offering a practical tool for narrative understanding, explainable AI, and LLM evaluation. The source code and dataset are publicly available on GitHub (https://github.com/BLPXSPG/SymbolicThought).

CompTab: A Comprehensive Benchmark for Real-World TableQA with Complex Reasoning and Irregular Tables

Zhen Yang, Wei Du, Jie Wang, Wenze Zhou, Xiangfeng Meng, Zhengyang Wang Anhui University, Suping Sun, Ziwei Du Anhui University 等 14 位作者

Recent progress in Large Language Model (LLM) based Table Question Answering (TableQA) has demonstrated strong performance on standard benchmarks. However, existing benchmarks mainly focus on well-structured tables and fail to reflect the irregular structures and complex reasoning commonly encountered in real-world scenarios. We propose CompTab, a benchmark designed to evaluate TableQA under complex reasoning and irregular table conditions. CompTab covers six representative types, including semantic ambiguity, multi-hop reasoning, transposed tables, merged cells, missing values, and outliers. It is constructed from real-world seed tables across multiple domains using controlled LLM based generation and human verification to ensure realism and diversity. In addition, to improve the generalization of LLMs under complex and irregular table settings, we propose a two-stage training framework that progressively aligns models with textual reasoning and executable decision signals, instantiated as CompTabLLM. Evaluations on 38 representative LLMs and CompTabLLM show clear limitations of existing LLMs under realistic conditions, while the proposed framework improves generalization. CompTab thus provides a challenging benchmark for advancing TableQA in real-world.

InfiniteWeb: Scalable Web Environment Synthesis for GUI Agent Training

Ziyun Zhang, Zezhou Wang, Xiaoyi Zhang Microsoft, Zongyu Guo Microsoft Research, Jiahao Li Microsoft Research Asia, Bin Li Microsoft, Yan Lu Microsoft Research Asia

GUI agents that interact with graphical interfaces on behalf of users are a promising direction for practical AI assistants, yet training them is hindered by scarce suitable environments. We present InfiniteWeb, a system that automatically generates functional web environments at scale for GUI agent training. While LLMs perform well on generating a single webpage, building a realistic and functional website with many interconnected pages faces challenges. We address these challenges through unified specification, task-centric test-driven development, and combining website seed variation with reference design images. Our system also generates verifiable task evaluators enabling dense reward signals for reinforcement learning. Experiments show that our system surpasses commercial coding agents at realistic website construction, and GUI agents trained on our generated environments achieve significant performance improvements on OSWorld and Online-Mind2Web, demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed system.

MIND Your Reasoning: A Meta-Cognitive Intuitive-Reflective Network for Dual-Reasoning in Multimodal Stance Detection

Bingbing Wang, Zhengda Jin, Bin Liang The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Wenjie Li The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Jing Li The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Ruifeng Xu Harbin Institute of Technology, Min Zhang Harbin Institute of Technology, Shenzhen and Harbin Institute of Technology

Multimodal Stance Detection (MSD) is a crucial task for understanding public opinion on social media. Existing methods predominantly operate by learning to fuse modalities. They lack an explicit reasoning process to discern how inter-modal dynamics, such as irony or conflict, collectively shape the user’s final stance, leading to frequent misjudgments. To address this, we advocate for a paradigm shift from learning to fuse to learning to reason. We introduce MIND, a Meta-cognitive Intuitive-reflective Network for Dual-reasoning. Inspired by the dual-process theory of human cognition, MIND operationalizes a self-improving loop. It first generates a rapid, intuitive hypothesis by querying evolving Modality and Semantic Experience Pools. Subsequently, a meta-cognitive reflective stage uses Modality-CoT and Semantic-CoT to scrutinize this initial judgment, distill superior adaptive strategies, and evolve the experience pools themselves. These dual experience structures are continuously refined during training and recalled at inference to guide robust and context-aware stance decisions. Extensive experiments on the MMSD benchmark demonstrate that our MIND significantly outperforms most baseline models and exhibits strong generalization.

Token-Level Policy Optimization: Linking Group-Level Rewards to Token-Level Aggregation via sequence-level likelihood

Xingyu Lin, Yilin Wen Research, Baidu, Du Su Institute of Computing Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, En Wang Jilin University, China, Wenbin Liu Jilin University, China, Zhonghou Lv, Jinchang Hou Baidu, Chenfu Bao Tsinghua University and Baidu

Group Relative Policy Optimization (GRPO) has significantly advanced the reasoning ability of large language models (LLMs), particularly in their mathemat- ical reasoning performance. However, GRPO and related entropy regularization methods still struggle with token-level sparse-rewards, which is an inherent challenge in chain-of-thought (CoT) reasoning. These approaches often rely on undifferentiated token-level entropy regu- larization, which easily leads to entropy collapse or model degradation under sparse token rewards. In this work, we propose TEPO, a novel token-level framework that (1) leverages sequence-level likelihood to link group-level rewards with individual tokens via token-level aggregation, and (2) introduces a token-level KL-Divergence mask constraint that targets tokens with positive advantages and decreasing entropy to mitigate abrupt policy updates. Experiments demonstrate that TEPO not only achieves state-of-the-art performance on mathematical reasoning benchmarks but also markedly enhances training stability, reducing convergence time by 50% compared with GRPO/DAPO.

ProMed: Shapley Information Gain Guided Reinforcement Learning for Proactive Medical LLMs

Interactive medical questioning is essential in clinical consultations, where physicians must actively gather necessary patient information. Yet existing medical Large Language Models (LLMs) predominantly follow a reactive paradigm, risking diagnostic errors by answering before seeking sufficient details. To bridge this gap, we propose ProMed, a reinforcement learning framework that transitions LLMs toward a proactive paradigm, enabling them to ask clinically valuable questions before decision-making. Central to ProMed is the Shapley Information Gain (SIG) reward, which quantifies a question’s clinical utility as the amount of newly acquired information, while considering its contextual importance via Shapley values. We integrate SIG into a two-stage training pipeline: (1) SIG-Guided Model Initialization uses Monte Carlo Tree Search to construct high-reward interaction trajectories for supervision, and (2) SIG-Augmented Policy Optimization, with a novel SIG-guided Reward Distribution Mechanism that prioritizes informative questions for fine-grained optimization. Experiments on partial-information medical benchmarks show that ProMed significantly outperforms state-of-the-art methods by 6.29% on average and delivers a 54.45% gain over the reactive paradigm, and generalizes robustly to out-of-domain cases. Our codes are available at https://github.com/hxxding/ProMed.

NeuralFSM: Adaptive Multi-Agent Coordination via Learning Finite-State Execution Policy

Jiye Wang State Grid Corporation of China, Yu Wang NCEPU, Jianbin Li NCEPU, Shiduo Yang NCEPU, Kenan Guo, Yuanhe Zhao NCEPU

LLM-powered multi-agent systems (MAS) have demonstrated strong performance on complex tasks. However, most existing approaches still rely on hand-crafted communication protocols or automatically designed communication topologies, which generalize poorly across tasks. We introduce NeuralFSM, a state-driven framework that formulates multi-agent problem solving as a finite-state execution process. NeuralFSM learns both the state transition distribution and inter-agent communication weights from interaction traces using a Temporal Coordination Controller. Rather than prioritizing explicit structure generation, the proposed framework uses task context to modulate transition and routing decisions, enabling flexible coordination without manual protocol design. To improve robustness against noisy or adversarial agents, we incorporate graph regularization during training and apply trust-aware message attenuation at runtime. Experiments on diverse benchmarks show that NeuralFSM consistently outperforms prior baselines by an average margin of 6.74%–19.39%, while substantially reducing token consumption. Moreover, NeuralFSM exhibits strong inherent robustness, which is further enhanced by the protection layer, resulting in only a 1.82% performance drop under attack.

Large Language Models (LLMs) have demonstrated strong cross-domain capabilities, yet their competence in specialized professional tasks remains underexamined. Existing legal benchmarks evaluate isolated tasks or exam-style questions, failing to capture the procedural interdependencies and adjudicative rigor inherent in professional practice. To bridge this gap, we construct JurisBench, a vertical, depth-oriented, domain-specific benchmark designed to evaluate LLMs across key stages of Chinese civil litigation. JurisBench introduces a Linear Depth Simulation track that mirrors the cognitive workflow of professional judges through four sequential, dependency-aware phases: Cause of Action prediction, Focus of Disputes identification, Rationale of the Judgment generation, and Result of the Judgment determination. Results reveal an “illusion of competence”: state-of-the-art models exhibit marked performance degradation in end-to-end pipelines due to cascading error propagation. We identify precise statutory grounding as a persistent bottleneck, highlighting a critical gap between fluent linguistic output and judicial reliability. JurisBench shifts evaluation from isolated legal knowledge to workflow-level task execution, providing a diagnostic framework for legal AI and a template for benchmark design in specialized domains.

EvoRoute: Experience-Driven Self-Routing LLM Agent Systems

Guibin Zhang National University of Singapore, Haiyang Yu, Kaiming Yang, Bingli Wu, Fei Huang Alibaba Group US, Yongbin Li Alibaba Group, Shuicheng Yan National University of Singapore

Complex agentic AI systems, powered by a coordinated ensemble of Large Language Models (LLMs), tool and memory modules, have demonstrated remarkable capabilities on intricate, multi-turn tasks. However, this success is shadowed by prohibitive economic costs and severe latency, exposing a critical, yet underexplored, trade-off. We formalize this challenge as the Agent System Trilemma: the inherent tension among achieving state-of-the-art performance, minimizing monetary cost, and ensuring rapid task completion. To dismantle this trilemma, we introduce EvoRoute, a self-evolving model routing paradigm that transcends static, pre-defined model assignments. Leveraging an ever-expanding knowledge base of prior experience, EvoRoute dynamically selects Pareto-optimal LLM backbones at each step, balancing accuracy, efficiency, and resource use, while continually refining its own selection policy through environment feedback. Experiments on challenging agentic benchmarks such as GAIA and BrowseComp+ demonstrate that EvoRoute, when integrated into off-the-shelf agentic systems, not only sustains or enhances system performance but also reduces execution cost by up to 80% and latency by over 70%.

Robust Tool Use via Fission-GRPO: Learning to Recover from Execution Errors

Zhiwei Zhang The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Fei Zhao Xiaohongshu, Rui Wang, Zezhong Wang, Bin Liang The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Jiakang Wang Kuaishou- 快手科技, Yao Hu Xiaohongshu, Shaosheng Cao 等 9 位作者

Large language models (LLMs) can call tools effectively, yet they remain brittle in multi-turn execution: after a tool-call error, smaller models often fall into repetitive invalid re-invocations instead of interpreting the feedback and recovering. This failure mode persists because current training paradigms do not explicitly teach models how to recover from execution errors. In particular, standard reinforcement learning (RL) collapses rich failure experience into sparse negative rewards, while pre-collected error-correction datasets become mismatched to the policy’s evolving failure modes. To bridge this gap, we propose Fission-GRPO, a framework that converts execution errors into on-policy corrective supervision within the RL training loop. Our core mechanism fissions each failed trajectory into a new training instance by augmenting it with diagnostic feedback from a fine-tuned Error Simulator, then resampling multiple recovery rollouts on-policy. This enables the model to learn from the precise errors it makes during exploration, rather than from static, pre-collected error cases. On BFCL v4 Multi-Turn, Fission-GRPO improves the error recovery rate of Qwen3-8B by 5.7% absolute and overall accuracy by 4.0% (from 42.75% to 46.75%), outperforming both RL baselines and specialized tool-use agents. The method further generalizes to TAU-Bench and TAU2-Bench, achieving leading results across most settings with gains up to +17.4%.

Controlling Multimodal Conversational Agents with Coverage-Enhanced Latent Actions

Yongqi Li, Hao Lang, Tieyun Qian Wuhan University, Yongbin Li Alibaba Group

Vision-language models are increasingly employed as multimodal conversational agents (MCAs) for diverse conversational tasks. Recently, reinforcement learning (RL) has been widely explored for adapting MCAs to various human-AI interaction scenarios. Despite showing great enhancement in generalization performance, fine-tuning MCAs via RL still faces challenges in handling the extremely large text token space. To address this, we learn a compact latent action space for RL fine-tuning instead. Specifically, we adopt the learning from observation mechanism to construct the codebook for the latent action space, where future observations are leveraged to estimate current latent actions that could further be used to reconstruct future observations. However, the scarcity of paired image-text data hinders learning a codebook with sufficient coverage. Thus, we leverage both paired image-text data and text-only data to construct the latent action space, using a cross-modal projector for transforming text embeddings into image-text embeddings. We initialize the cross-modal projector on paired image-text data, and further train it on massive text-only data with a novel cycle consistency loss to enhance its robustness. We show that our latent action based method outperforms competitive baselines on two conversation tasks across various RL algorithms. Code and data are available at https://github.com/AlibabaResearch/DAMO-ConvAI/tree/main/MMLatentAction.

Anchoring the Affective Manifold: Learning Canonical and Disentangled Representations via Generative Cross-Modal Alignment

Weibin Li, Jintao Cheng, Xiaoyu Tang, Chi Man Vong University of Macau

Dominant multimodal emotion recognition paradigms often neglect the intrinsic geometric structure of affect, resulting in representations heavily entangled with non-affective factors. To address this, we propose a Canonical Disentangled Multimodal Generative Framework aimed at recovering the canonical affective manifold from raw data. We explicitly decompose the latent space into a canonical Shared Affective Subspace (z_{vad}) and a Private Modality Subspace (z_{priv}). We facilitate this factorization through Supervised Manifold Anchoring and Cross-Modal Manifold Alignment. Experiments demonstrate that our model effectively disentangles affect from private attributes (e.g., identity), achieving superior robustness in zero-shot cross-domain transfer compared to fully supervised baselines, while enabling controllable emotion generation.

RealChart2Code: Bridging the Gap in Real-World Chart-to-Code Generation via Multi-Task Evaluation

Jiajun Zhang, Yuying Li, Zhixun Li, Xingyu Guo, Jingzhuo Wu, Leqi Zheng, Yiran Yang, Jianke Zhang 等 15 位作者

Vision-Language Models (VLMs) have demonstrated impressive capabilities in code generation across various domains. However, their ability to replicate complex, multi-panel visualizations from real-world data remains largely unassessed. To address this gap, we introduce RealChart2Code, a new large-scale benchmark with over 2,800 instances grounded in authentic datasets and featuring tasks with clear analytical intent. Crucially, it is the first benchmark to systematically evaluate chart generation from large-scale raw data and assess iterative code refinement in a multi-turn conversational setting. Our comprehensive evaluation of 14 leading VLMs on RealChart2Code reveals significant performance degradation compared to simpler benchmarks, highlighting their struggles with complex plot structures and authentic data. Our analysis uncovers a substantial performance gap between proprietary and open-weight models and confirms that even state-of-the-art VLMs often fail to accurately replicate intricate, multi-panel charts. These findings provide valuable insights into the current limitations of VLMs and guide future research directions.

EventWeave: A Dynamic Framework for Capturing Core and Supporting Events in Dialogue Systems

Zhengyi Zhao The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shubo Zhang, Yiming Du, Bin Liang The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Baojun Wang Huawei Technologies Ltd., Zhongyang Li, Binyang Li, Kam-Fai Wong The Chinese University of Hong Kong

Large language models have improved dialogue systems, but often process conversational turns in isolation, overlooking the event structures that guide natural interactions. Hence we introduce EventWeave, a framework that explicitly models relationships between conversational events to generate more contextually appropriate dialogue responses. EventWeave constructs a dynamic event graph that distinguishes between core events (main goals) and supporting events (interconnected details), employing a multi-head attention mechanism to selectively determine which events are most relevant to the current turn. Unlike summarization or standard graph-based approaches, our method captures three distinct relationship types between events, allowing for more nuanced context modeling. Experiments on three dialogue datasets demonstrate that EventWeave produces more natural and contextually appropriate responses while requiring less computational overhead than models processing the entire dialogue history. Ablation studies confirm improvements stem from better event relationship modeling rather than increased information density. Our approach effectively balances comprehensive context understanding with generating concise responses, maintaining strong performance across various dialogue lengths through targeted optimization techniques.

RL-PLUS: Countering Capability Boundary Collapse of LLMs in Reinforcement Learning with Hybrid-policy Optimization

Yihong Dong, Xue Jiang, Yongding Tao Peking University, Huanyu Liu Peking University, Kechi Zhang Peking University, Lili Mou University of Alberta, Rongyu Cao, Yingwei MA Alibaba Group 等 14 位作者

Reinforcement Learning with Verifiable Reward (RLVR) has significantly advanced the complex reasoning abilities of Large Language Models (LLMs). However, it struggles to break through the inherent capability boundaries of the base LLM, due to its essentially on-policy strategy coupled with LLM’s immense action space and sparse reward. Critically, RLVR can lead to the capability boundary collapse, narrowing the LLM’s problem-solving scope. To address this problem, we propose R-PLUS, a novel hybrid-policy optimization approach for LLMs that synergizes internal exploitation with external data to achieve stronger reasoning capabilities and surpass the boundaries of base models. R-PLUS integrates two core components, i.e., Multiple Importance Sampling to address distributional mismatch from external data, and Exploration-Based Advantage Function to guide the model towards high-value, unexplored reasoning paths. We provide both theoretical analysis and extensive experiments to demonstrate the superiority and generalizability of our approach. Compared with existing RLVR methods, R-PLUS achieves 1) state-of-the-art performance on six math reasoning benchmarks; 2) superior performance on six out-of-distribution reasoning tasks; 3) consistent and significant gains across diverse model families, with average relative improvements up to 69.2%. Moreover, the analysis of Pass@k curves indicates that R-PLUS effectively resolves the capability boundary collapse problem.
