Learning Arbitrary Lindbladians from Time Evolution

Zhili Chen, Zhan Yu

原文摘要

We study the problem of learning arbitrary $n$-qubit Lindbladians, the generators of Markovian open-system dynamics, from their time evolution. We give the first known efficient algorithm that learns arbitrary Lindbladians without any structural assumptions. For an $n$-qubit Lindbladian of dynamical strength at most $Λ$, the algorithm estimates every coefficient to error $\varepsilon$ using $\widetilde O(Λ^2/\varepsilon^2)$ experiments and $\widetilde O(Λ/\varepsilon^2)$ total evolution time, with classical running time polynomial in $n$ and $Λ/\varepsilon$. Both experimental costs match known lower bounds up to polylogarithmic factors. The algorithm identifies candidate labels through product Pauli experiments and estimates their coefficients using random stabilizer preparations and Clifford measurements. It requires no ancillas or control during the unknown evolution. For constant $k$, our algorithm learns generic $k$-local Lindbladians of local dynamical strength at most $Λ_{\mathrm{loc}}$ using $\widetilde O(n^2Λ_{\mathrm{loc}}^2/\varepsilon^2)$ experiments and $\widetilde O(nΛ_{\mathrm{loc}}/\varepsilon^2)$ total evolution time, improving the upper bounds of prior works in terms of the dependence on $n$. We further improve the lower bounds of Arad, Chen, Guo, Rebentrost, and Yu (SODA 2027) using a family of $3$-local Lindbladians. They already hold when the support is known, and only one Hamiltonian coefficient is requested, even for adaptive protocols with arbitrary ancillas and quantum memory. These lower bounds establish that our algorithm is optimal up to polylogarithmic factors in both experiment count and total evolution time for every fixed $k \geq 3$.

原文摘要

While Video Large Language Models (Video-LLMs) have shown significant potential in multimodal understanding and reasoning tasks, how to efficiently select the most informative frames from videos remains a critical challenge. Existing methods attempt to optimize frame sampling by reducing inter-frame redundancy or employing unsupervised event localization. However, these approaches often fall short in handling complex instruction-following tasks and scenarios that demand precise temporal modeling, resulting in limited performance in both semantic alignment and temporal reasoning. To address the above challenges, we introduce Instructed Temporal Grounding for Videos (VideoITG), a framework aiming to adaptively customize frame sampling strategies based on user instructions. Specifically, we design the VidThinker pipeline, which automates annotation by generating instruction-conditioned captions, retrieving relevant video segments, and selecting key frames to enable efficient supervision. Using VidThinker, we build the VideoITG-40K dataset with 40K videos and 500K temporal grounding annotations. Our plug-and-play VideoITG model leverages Video-LLMs' visual-language alignment and reasoning for discriminative frame selection. VideoITG consistently boosts the performance on multiple multimodal video understanding benchmarks, demonstrating its effectiveness and potential.

AV-Reasoner: Improving and Benchmarking Clue-Grounded Audio-Visual Counting for MLLMs

Lu, Lidong, Chen, Guo, Wei, Zhu, Li, Zhiqi, Liu, Yicheng, Lu, Tong

原文摘要

Despite progress in video understanding, current MLLMs struggle with counting tasks. Existing benchmarks are limited by short videos, close-set queries, lack of clue annotations, and weak multimodal coverage. In this paper, we introduce CG-AV-Counting, a manually-annotated clue-grounded counting benchmark with 1,027 multimodal questions and 5,845 annotated clues over 497 long videos. It supports both black-box and white-box evaluation, serving as a comprehensive testbed for both end-to-end and reasoning-based counting. To explore ways to improve model's counting capability, we propose AV-Reasoner, a model trained with GRPO and curriculum learning to generalize counting ability from related tasks. AV-Reasoner achieves SOTA results across multiple benchmarks, demonstrating the effectiveness of reinforcement learning. However, experiments reveal that on out-of-domain benchmarks, reasoning in the language space offers limited performance gains, suggesting the need for more robust cross-domain reasoning mechanisms.
