We introduce Gaussian partitioning, an algorithmic primitive for distributions smooth with respect to a Gaussian. It partitions space into polyhedral regions so that almost all mass lies in thin strips restricting a few orthogonal directions. Within each strip, the conditional distribution approximately matches low-degree Gaussian moments in the unrestricted directions. Our construction builds on logconcave partitioning of Diakonikolas, Kane, and Ma (FOCS 2026). Under input marginals smooth with respect to the standard Gaussian, we obtain agnostic learners with error $(1+c)\mathrm{opt}+ε$ for broad classes of Boolean multi-index models, including functions of halfspaces, low-dimensional convex concepts, and low-dimensional polynomial threshold functions. For functions of $k$ halfspaces, both agnostic and testable agnostic learners achieve this error with dimension dependence $d^{\mathrm{poly}(k/c)}$, improving the previous exponential dependence on $k/c$ in the agnostic exponent. For learning from positive examples with imperfect unlabeled data (PUI), we give algorithms and Statistical Query (SQ) lower bounds that qualitatively characterize complexity through Gaussian moment matching. For fixed smoothness and positive-mass parameters, we learn intersections of $k$ halfspaces with dimension dependence $d^{O(\log(k/ε))}$ and matching SQ lower bounds, improving the previous $d^{\mathrm{poly}(1/ε)}$ upper bound even for one halfspace. A general reduction from agnostic reliable learning to PUI yields negative reliable learners for these intersections with the same dimension dependence, for fixed smoothness. Finally, for PQ learning and testable learning with distribution shift, we prove qualitatively optimal SQ lower bounds of $d^{Ω(1/ε^2)}$, even for intersections of two halfspaces with Gaussian training data and arbitrary test distributions.

We give an algorithm for PAC learning intersections of $k$ degree-2 polynomial threshold functions over $R^d$ under a Gaussian distribution. Our algorithm achieves classification error $ε$ using $d^{O(k)}2^{O_k(\log^3(1/ε))}$ time and samples, improving over the $d^{O(k^2/ε^2)}$ running time of the polynomial regression approach. To our knowledge, our result is the first to obtain a dimension exponent independent of the accuracy parameter, even for $k=2$. We complement our algorithmic result with an SQ lower bound showing that the complexity dependence of $d^{Ω(k)}$ is unavoidable. Lifting the input to polynomial features turns the target into an intersection of $k$ halfspaces. This suggests using the first two labeled moments for subspace recovery. In the lifted space, however, these moments can reveal nothing. Our starting point is a Gaussian comparison theorem showing that, for sufficiently regular defining quadratics, the labeled moments needed for subspace recovery are approximately preserved. To handle arbitrary defining quadratics, we establish a new structural result showing that every direction with significant resampling influence can be detected through degree-$O(k)$ moments. These results yield an initial $d^{O(k)}2^{\mathrm{poly}_k(1/ε)}$-time learner using adaptive restrictions. To improve the exponential dependence on $1/ε$, we develop a two-stage dimension-reduction approach that avoids the costly adaptive partitioning. After identifying a subspace containing all directions with large influence, we use generalized regularity and Gaussian comparison to recover the remaining relevant quadratic features through a new derivative-based moment operator. The recovered features support an intersection close to the target. Combining them with robust hinge-loss minimization gives our quasipolynomial-time learner.
Adapting step-distilled text-to-image (T2I) models through post-training incurs additional computational costs and affects native few-step generation behavior. This motivates a complementary route beyond style-specific adaptation: drawing on the visual knowledge already encoded in step-distilled T2I models to elicit stylistic capabilities through language. Pursuing this direction requires textual guidance that captures how visual attributes jointly define a style and remain applicable as the depicted content changes. To explore this approach, we introduce StyleForge, a fully automatic, training-free framework that expresses reference styles as reusable rendering instructions. By integrating overall rendering characteristics with local color and lighting behavior, StyleForge organizes visual evidence from reference images into a coherent specification of how the target style should be expressed. The specification is then compiled into textual guidance that can be reused across content prompts, enabling frozen step-distilled T2I models to render different subjects and scenes in the reference style while retaining native few-step generation. Extensive experiments show relative gains of up to 29.47\% in generation quality scores over the strongest baseline, while Pareto analysis indicates that improved stylization is accompanied by strong adherence to the requested content. Multi-agent systems composed of large generative models are rapidly moving from laboratory prototypes to real-world deployments, where they jointly plan, negotiate, and allocate shared resources to solve complex tasks. While such systems promise unprecedented scalability and autonomy, their collective interaction also gives rise to failure modes that cannot be reduced to individual agents. Understanding these emergent risks is therefore critical. Here, we present a pioneer study of such emergent multi-agent risk in workflows that involve competition over shared resources (e.g., computing resources or market share), sequential handoff collaboration (where downstream agents see only predecessor outputs), collective decision aggregation, and others. Across these settings, we observe that such group behaviors arise frequently across repeated trials and a wide range of interaction conditions, rather than as rare or pathological cases. In particular, phenomena such as collusion-like coordination and conformity emerge with non-trivial frequency under realistic resource constraints, communication protocols, and role assignments, mirroring well-known pathologies in human societies despite no explicit instruction. Moreover, these risks cannot be prevented by existing agent-level safeguards alone. These findings expose the dark side of intelligent multi-agent systems: a social intelligence risk where agent collectives, despite no instruction to do so, spontaneously reproduce familiar failure patterns from human societies.

An action seen once and the same action seen three times receive the same action-recognition label, so that supervision does not require a model to count. Answers shared across histories that differ in event order, accumulation, or relations leave those distinctions unconstrained; we call this state under-specification. Visible-State Supervision (ViSS) addresses it by training on source-grounded probes of event identity, order, accumulation, relation change, and answer sufficiency; under the same recent-frame interface it improves OVO-Bench over a strict-matched generic temporal supervision baseline while remaining comparable on StreamingBench, with the largest gain in hallucination detection. Test-Time Causal View Search (TVS) then adapts evidence access while keeping the learned model fixed, expanding from recent frames to sparse event and compact history views on demand. The two interventions separate representation from view selection: supervision particularly benefits hallucination detection and causal reasoning, access particularly benefits event recall and forward reasoning. Together they reach the best reported accuracy among the published systems compared here on StreamingBench and OVO-Bench at a fraction of the processed frames of exhaustive selection, and strict replay shows that most of the remaining gap to a three-view oracle is a correct answer that was later replaced. Streaming accuracy depends on what supervision asks the model to keep, what evidence inference exposes, and whether the model keeps a correct answer once it has one.

Training a spatial VLM to answer which side an object lies on does not require it to preserve the metric displacement that determines that answer, while supervision for a distance estimate may leave categorical relations largely unconstrained. When post-training emphasizes one readout, improvements can therefore concentrate on that interface while transfer to others remains weak or even degrades; we call this observed specialization interface lock-in. ChronoReplay addresses it by replaying heterogeneous spatial supervision as chronologically ordered episodes, retaining source-native targets, and balancing supervision across families. Under the same observation access, a single ChronoReplay checkpoint improves OVO-S-Bench, OST-Bench, and UCS-Bench together, including a 13.41-point gain on OST-Bench, and achieves the highest three-benchmark mean among the supervision settings compared here. Same-data controls further separate the ingredients of this transfer: answer serialization redistributes gains across OST and UCS, family-balanced learning improves over ordinary joint SFT and natural turn weighting, and chronological replay exceeds a shifted-order control by about 2.41 OST points across two paired seeds. Adaptive frame selection then changes evidence access while keeping the trained model fixed, providing an additional inference-time gain at lower visual cost. Streaming spatial performance depends on what distinctions supervision preserves, how heterogeneous histories are organized during learning, and what causal evidence inference makes available at test time.

As Large Language Model (LLM) alignment evolves from simple completions to complex, highly sophisticated generation, Reward Models are increasingly shifting toward rubric-guided evaluation to mitigate surface-level biases. However, the community lacks a unified benchmark to assess this evaluation paradigm, as existing benchmarks lack both the discriminative complexity and the ground-truth rubric annotations required for rigorous analysis. To bridge this gap, we introduce RubricBench, a curated benchmark with 1,147 pairwise comparisons specifically designed to assess the reliability of rubric-based evaluation. Our construction employs a multi-dimensional filtration pipeline to target hard samples featuring nuanced input complexity and misleading surface bias, augmenting each with expert-annotated, atomic rubrics derived strictly from instructions. Comprehensive experiments reveal a substantial capability gap between human-annotated and model-generated rubrics, indicating that even state-of-the-art models struggle to autonomously specify valid evaluation criteria, lagging considerably behind human-guided performance.

Answering natural language queries over relational data often requires retrieving and reasoning over multiple tables, yet most retrievers optimize only for query–table relevance and ignore table–table compatibility. We introduce REaR (Retrieve, Expand and Refine), a three-stage, LLM-free framework that separates semantic relevance from structural joinability for efficient, high-fidelity multi-table retrieval. REaR (i) retrieves query-aligned tables, (ii) expands these with structurally joinable tables via fast, precomputed column-embedding comparisons, and (iii) refines them by pruning noisy or weakly related candidates. Empirically, REaR is retriever-agnostic and consistently improves dense/ sparse retrievers on complex table QA datasets (BIRD, MMQA, and Spider) by improving both multi-table retrieval quality and downstream SQL execution. Despite being LLM-free, it delivers performance competitive with state-of-the-art LLM-augmented retrieval systems (e.g., ARM) while achieving much lower latency and cost. Ablations confirm complementary gains from expansion and refinement, underscoring REaR as a practical, scalable building block for table-based downstream tasks (e.g., Text-to-SQL).

Despite recent progress in LLMs for text style transfer, most existing methods rely on costly task-specific training and offer limited control over separating stylistic modification from content preservation. We propose Diff4TST, a diffusion-based language model that formulates text style transfer as an explicit copy-and-edit process. Built upon masked diffusion language models, Diff4TST introduces a style-aware noise schedule that selectively perturbs stylistic tokens while preserving content-bearing tokens during supervised fine-tuning.At inference time, we further introduce a generate-then-refine strategy that iteratively improves style compliance via gradient-based token re-masking, without reinforcement learning or external reward models. Extensive experiments on both fine-grained and polarity-based benchmarks show that Diff4TST achieves substantially improved style accuracy and controllability while maintaining strong content preservation and fluency. These results suggest diffusion-based language models as a principled and effective alternative to autoregressive pipelines for text style transfer.

While Unified Multimodal Models (UMMs) have achieved remarkable success in cross-modal comprehension, a significant gap persists in their ability to leverage such internal knowledge for high-quality generation. We formalize this discrepancy as Conduction Aphasia, a phenomenon where models accurately interpret multimodal inputs but struggle to translate that understanding into faithful and controllable synthesis. To address this, we propose UniCorn, a simple yet elegant self-improvement framework that eliminates the need for external data or teacher supervision. By partitioning a single UMM into three collaborative roles: Proposer, Solver, and Judge, UniCorn generates high-quality interactions via self-play and employs cognitive pattern reconstruction to distill latent understanding into explicit generative signals. To validate the restoration of multimodal coherence, we introduce UniCycle, a cycle-consistency benchmark based on a Text to Image to Text reconstruction loop. Extensive experiments demonstrate that UniCorn achieves comprehensive and substantial improvements over the base model across six general image generation benchmarks. Notably, it achieves SOTA performance on TIIF(73.8), DPG(86.8), CompBench(88.5), and UniCycle while further delivering substantial gains of +5.0 on WISE and +6.5 on OneIG. These results highlight that our method significantly enhances T2I generation while maintaining robust comprehension, demonstrating the scalability of fully self-supervised refinement for unified multimodal intelligence.

The integration of Large Language Models (LLMs) into clinical decision support is critically obstructed by their opaque and often unreliable reasoning. In the high-stakes domain of healthcare, correct answers alone are insufficient; clinical practice demands full transparency to ensure patient safety and enable professional accountability. A pervasive and dangerous weakness of current LLMs is their tendency to produce “correct answers through flawed reasoning.” This issue is far more than a minor academic flaw; such process errors signal a fundamental lack of robust understanding, making the model prone to broader hallucinations and unpredictable failures when faced with real-world clinical complexity. In this paper, we establish a framework for trustworthy clinical argumentation by adapting the Toulmin model to the diagnostic process. We propose a novel training pipeline: Curriculum Goal-Conditioned Learning (CGCL), designed to progressively train LLM to generate diagnostic arguments that explicitly follow this Toulmin structure. CGCL’s progressive three-stage curriculum systematically builds a solid clinical argument: (1) extracting facts and generating differential diagnoses; (2) justifying a core hypothesis while rebutting alternatives; and (3) synthesizing the analysis into a final, qualified conclusion. We validate CGCL using T-Eval, a quantitative framework measuring the integrity of the diagnosis reasoning. Experiments show that our method achieves diagnostic accuracy and reasoning quality comparable to resource-intensive Reinforcement Learning (RL) methods, while offering a more stable and efficient training pipeline.

Geospatial reasoning is essential for real-world applications such as urban analytics, transportation planning, and disaster response. However, existing LLM-based agents often fail at genuine geospatial computation, relying instead on web search or pattern matching while hallucinating spatial relationships. We present Spatial-Agent, an AI agent grounded in foundational theories of spatial information science. Our approach formalizes geo-analytical question answering as a concept transformation problem, where natural-language questions are parsed into executable workflows represented as GeoFlow Graphs—directed acyclic graphs with nodes corresponding to spatial concepts and edges representing transformations. Drawing on spatial information theory, Spatial-Agent extracts spatial concepts, assigns functional roles with principled ordering constraints, and composes transformation sequences through template-based generation. Extensive experiments on MapEval-API and MapQA benchmarks demonstrate that Spatial-Agent significantly outperforms existing baselines including ReAct and Reflexion, while producing interpretable and executable geospatial workflows.

Achieving robust generalization in speech deepfake detection (SDD) remains a primary challenge, as models often fail to detect unseen forgery methods. While research has focused on model-centric and algorithm-centric solutions, the impact of data composition is often underexplored. This paper proposes a data-centric approach, analyzing the SDD data landscape from two practical perspectives: constructing a single dataset and aggregating multiple datasets. To address the first perspective, we conduct a large-scale empirical study to characterize the data scaling laws for SDD, quantifying the impact of source and generator diversity. To address the second, we propose the Diversity-Optimized Sampling Strategy (DOSS), a principled framework for mixing heterogeneous data with two implementations: DOSS-Select (pruning) and DOSS-Weight (re-weighting). Our experiments show that DOSS-Select outperforms the naive aggregation baseline while using only 3% of the total available data. Furthermore, our final model, trained on a 12k-hour curated data pool using the optimal DOSS-Weight strategy, achieves state-of-the-art performance, outperforming large-scale baselines with greater data and model efficiency on both public benchmarks and a new challenge set of various commercial APIs.
