Learning to See and Act: Task-Aware Virtual View Exploration for Robotic Manipulation

Bai, Yongjie, Wang, Zhouxia, Liu, Yang, Luo, Kaijun, Wen, Yifan, Dai, Mingtong, Chen, Weixing, Chen, Ziliang 等 11 位作者

Recent vision-language-action (VLA) models for multi-task robot manipulation often rely on fixed camera setups and shared visual encoders, which limit their performance under occlusions and during cross-task transfer. To address these challenges, we propose Task-aware Virtual View Exploration (TVVE), a framework that learns to select task-relevant virtual camera viewpoints and dynamically re-render observations from a reconstructed scene representation using the selected viewpoints. To enable efficient view selection, we train an exploration policy in a pseudo-environment. In addition, we introduce a Task-aware Mixture-of-Experts (TaskMoE) visual encoder that routes visual features to task-specialized experts, mitigating interference in multi-task learning. To evaluate robustness under distribution shifts, we construct RLBench-OG, an out-of-distribution benchmark with visual perturbations and camera pose variations. Experiments on RLBench and RLBench-OG demonstrate that TVVE achieves higher success rates than strong baselines, while real-robot experiments further confirm its robustness to visual disturbances and unseen instructions. Hugging Visual Prompt and Segmentation Tokens: Consistency Learning for Fine-Grained Visual Understanding in MLLMs

Yang, Jing, Yang, Sen, Duan, Boqiang, Dai, Ming, Zhang, Wei, Tan, Xiao, Chen, Kunbin, He, Wei 等 10 位作者

Recently, multimodal large language models (MLLMs) have achieved remarkable success in general multimodal tasks. Increasing attention has been given to leveraging MLLMs for fine-grained visual understanding, such as region-level captioning and pixel-level grounding. However, most existing approaches are task-specific. While some recent unified approaches attempt to handle both types simultaneously, they still fall short of deeply exploring the underlying associations across tasks. To bridge this gap, we propose FCLM, a large multimodal model designed to jointly support fine-grained visual understanding through consistency learning. The central premise is that pixel-level captioning and grounding are mutually beneficial and complementary, each enhancing the other in achieving a fine-grained understanding of visual content. Specifically, FCLM analyzes the representation features - visual prompt and segmentation tokens - required for the two types of visual tasks, and achieves advanced reasoning and perception through a newly-designed consistency learning loss and a two-stage training framework. Moreover, a hybrid region extractor is designed to enhance visual prompt embeddings, yielding semantically discriminative representations for detailed captioning. Furthermore, a novel detailed localized referring expression segmentation (DL-RES) task is introduced to evaluate the model's ability to localize targets from detailed textual descriptions. Extensive experiments on seven visual understanding tasks demonstrate the superior performance and strong generalization of FCLM.

DeRVOS: Decoupling Consistent Trajectory Generation and Multimodal Understanding for Referring Video Object Segmentation

Cheng, Wenxuan, Dai, Ming, Lu, Huimin, Yang, Wankou

Referring video object segmentation (RVOS) aims to segment objects within a video according to natural language expressions. Unlike earlier works focusing on static single-object scenarios, recent studies address more complex motion scenes. Previous methods typically adopt a query-based, logically multi-stage pipeline to handle these scenarios. However, this paradigm learns trajectory consistency modeling and multimodal fusion from scratch, which often leads to trajectory inconsistencies and insufficient multimodal understanding. To address these limitations, we propose DeRVOS, a framework that decouples RVOS into two key branches: consistent trajectory generation and multimodal understanding. We extract temporally consistent object representations using a powerful pretrained instance trajectory generation model and perform cross-modal alignment via a unified multimodal encoder, enabling upstream modeling of trajectory consistency and vision-language understanding. This design reduces RVOS to the task of modeling the relationship between referring expressions and instance trajectories. To connect the two branches and enable efficient motion-aware semantic understanding, we introduce the Trajectory Alignment and Implicit Selection (TAIS) module, which progressively performs cross-frame multimodal alignment and motion-guided implicit trajectory selection. Extensive experiments demonstrate that DeRVOS achieves state-of-the-art results on both traditional RVOS benchmarks and the challenging MeViS dataset, surpassing LVLM-based methods by 4.7%.
