ETC-Bench: A Multilingual Benchmark for Evaluation-Side Transcript Canonicalization

Written transcripts of the same speech can differ in ways that are not uniquely determined by the speech signal. We formulate evaluation-side transcript canonicalization (ETC), which maps multiple surface forms to a single canonical form when their differences are not determined by speech. To our knowledge, ETC-Bench is the first and most comprehensive multilingual benchmark for evaluation-side transcript canonicalization, covering 181 phenomenon types across 12 languages. Each instance is a minimal pair that shares a sentence context and differs only in a target span exhibiting one phenomenon. To evaluate both canonicalization success and semantic preservation, we propose Semantic-preserving Exact-match Normalization Accuracy (SENA), which combines exact agreement between independently canonicalized pair members with a pair-relative BERTScore constraint against information loss. We further introduce the Taxonomy-guided Agent Canonicalization Skill (TACS), which provides LLM agents with phenomenon descriptions and explicit canonicalization contracts. Experiments with five baseline configurations and three TACS-based agents show that the agents outperform the baseline systems on shared languages. ETC-Bench provides a systematic testbed for evaluation-side transcript canonicalization across languages.

Agentic Data Sampling Framework for Multilingual ASR via Linguistic-Aware Error-Driven Optimization

Multilingual automatic speech recognition (ASR) has achieved rapid progress with large-scale pretrained models and multilingual speech corpora. Previous studies have proved the pivotal role of data sampling in multilingual ASR performance. However, existing sampling strategies largely rely on time-consuming manual, heuristic-based designs. To address this, we propose a linguistic-aware agentic data sampling framework that introduces a data sampling LLM agent into the multilingual ASR training loop. The agent is driven by a linguistically grounded rubric that analyzes ASR errors from phonological, morphological, and syntactic perspectives, and uses the resulting feedback together with training statistics, budget constraints, and algorithm profiles to select domain-level, sample-level, and token-level sampling strategies. This design turns evaluation results into adaptive data-selection decisions rather than treating WER/CER as final endpoints only. We conduct experiments on twelve Common Voice languages using Whisper-medium as the ASR backbone. The results show that our method achieves performance better than full-data training while using less training data and lower computational resources, and substantially accelerates training convergence compared to conventional sampling strategies.

Controllable LLM Reasoning via Sparse Autoencoder-Based Steering

Yi Fang, Wenjie Wang University of Science and Technology of China, Mingfeng Xue Sichuan University, Boyi Deng University of Science and Technology of China, Fengli Xu Tsinghua University, Tsinghua University, Dayiheng Liu Alibaba Group, Fuli Feng University of Science and Technology of China

Large Reasoning Models (LRMs) exhibit human-like cognitive reasoning strategies (e.g. backtracking, cross-verification) during reasoning process, which improves their performance on complex tasks. Currently, reasoning strategies are autonomously selected by LRMs themselves. However, such autonomous selection often produces inefficient or even erroneous reasoning paths. To make reasoning more reliable and flexible, it is important to develop methods for controlling reasoning strategies. Existing methods struggle to control fine-grained reasoning strategies due to conceptual entanglement in LRMs’ hidden states. To address this, we leverage Sparse Autoencoders (SAEs) to decompose strategy-entangled hidden states into a disentangled feature space. To identify the few strategy-specific features from the vast pool of SAE features, we propose SAE-Steering, an efficient two-stage feature identification pipeline. SAE-Steering first recalls features that amplify the logits of strategy-specific keywords, filtering out over 99% of features, and then ranks the remaining features by their control effectiveness. Using the identified strategy-specific features as control vectors, SAE-Steering outperforms existing methods by over 15% in control effectiveness. Furthermore, controlling reasoning strategies can redirect LRMs from erroneous paths to correct ones, achieving a 7% absolute accuracy improvement.

Qwen3 Technical Report

In this work, we present Qwen3, the latest version of the Qwen model family. Qwen3 comprises a series of large language models (LLMs) designed to advance performance, efficiency, and multilingual capabilities. The Qwen3 series includes models of both dense and Mixture-of-Expert (MoE) architectures, with parameter scales ranging from 0.6 to 235 billion. A key innovation in Qwen3 is the integration of thinking mode (for complex, multi-step reasoning) and non-thinking mode (for rapid, context-driven responses) into a unified framework. This eliminates the need to switch between different models--such as chat-optimized models (e.g., GPT-4o) and dedicated reasoning models (e.g., QwQ-32B)--and enables dynamic mode switching based on user queries or chat templates. Meanwhile, Qwen3 introduces a thinking budget mechanism, allowing users to allocate computational resources adaptively during inference, thereby balancing latency and performance based on task complexity. Moreover, by leveraging the knowledge from the flagship models, we significantly reduce the computational resources required to build smaller-scale models, while ensuring their highly competitive performance. Empirical evaluations demonstrate that Qwen3 achieves state-of-the-art results across diverse benchmarks, including tasks in code generation, mathematical reasoning, agent tasks, etc., competitive against larger MoE models and proprietary models. Compared to its predecessor Qwen2.5, Qwen3 expands multilingual support from 29 to 119 languages and dialects, enhancing global accessibility through improved cross-lingual understanding and generation capabilities. To facilitate reproducibility and community-driven research and development, all Qwen3 models are publicly accessible under Apache 2.0.
