SEER: A Scalable Event-Driven Runtime for Parallel Execution of Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning Environments

Jiming Su, Feng Zhu, Yuhao Xiao, Miao Zhang

原文摘要

Multi-agent reinforcement learning (MARL) is increasingly used in systems where many entities interact in a shared environment. In these workloads, policy inference can be batched on GPUs, but the CPU-side environment path still updates entity states, resolves local interactions, and builds observations inside each $\mathrm{env.step}$. This path can dominate latency in interaction-intensive workloads after policy batching. Existing vectorized environment interfaces and general event-driven runtimes do not directly address the fine-grained cross-entity work inside one bounded MARL step while preserving the step-level semantics expected by learning systems. We present SEER (Scalable Event-Driven Environment Runtime), a runtime for MARL environment execution under an explicit event-locality contract. SEER models each environment step as a bounded stream of timestamped events. If direct state updates are entity-local and cross-entity effects are represented as ordered future events, SEER can run independent events in parallel while preserving serial-equivalent boundary outputs. To make this contract practical, SEER uses a CAS-based dual-layer event queue: local event queues preserve per-entity causal order, while a parallel executive list exposes ready work to global worker threads. SEER further uses STPA, a preflight-guided thread-pool selection mechanism that combines short runtime traces with static workload and hardware features. We evaluate SEER on two parameterized MARL workloads: compute-intensive UAV swarm control (Aircraft) and communication-intensive wireless management (PCS). On Aircraft, SEER reduces inference latency by 16.2\% over the baseline. On PCS, SEER reduces environment-execution latency by 46.9\%, 19.5\%, and 64.9\% over ROSS-T, NBSE, and ROOT-Sim, respectively.

FeatLens: Feature-Guided Dependency Retrieval for Repository-Level Code Generation

Xutian Li, Bo Xiong, Yifeng Zhu, Runbang Yan, Yanzhen Zou, Lu Zhang, Bing Xie

原文摘要

Retrieving task-relevant code dependencies is critical for repository-level code generation. Existing approaches obtain dependency context through similarity-based retrieval, repository graphs, or LLM-driven exploration. A central challenge is to identify the dispersed dependencies needed to implement a functional requirement, rather than merely retrieve broadly related code. This paper presents FeatLens, a feature-guided dependency retrieval approach for repository-level code generation. FeatLens first builds an offline index linking natural-language feature descriptions to function-level code entities. Given a task requirement and target function location, it selects relevant features and constructs dependency seeds. It then expands the seed graph and applies semantic and structural heuristics to select dependencies for inclusion in the generation context. Experiments on DevEval and EvoCodeBench show that FeatLens achieves the highest dependency recall among the evaluated baselines at each fixed retrieval budget, reaching DR@15 values of 0.527 and 0.529, respectively. On DevEval, the retrieved context supports the highest non-oracle Pass@1 with both DeepSeek-V3.2 and GPT-5-mini. These results are obtained without LLM calls in the online dependency retrieval stage.

Attention as Selector: Unlocking VLM Attention for Long Document Page Retrieval

Minfeng Zhu Zhejiang University, Linxin Bao Zhejiang University, Wei Chen Zhejiang University, Linchao Zhu Zhejiang University

原文摘要

Visual Language Models (VLMs) have become a robust foundation for document question answering. Processing long documents remains challenging due to limited context windows and computational budgets. Existing page-level retrieval methods offer a practical solution, typically encoding pages and queries into vectors and ranking them via cosine similarity. However, such embedding-based methods (i) lack query–page interaction before similarity scoring and (ii) usually require large-scale datasets to align visual and textual embeddings. In this paper, we observe that the cross-modal attention maps of well-trained VLMs are able to highlight semantically relevant regions. Building on this insight, we present CAPS (Cross-modal Attention as Page Selector), a retrieval framework that utilizes attention mechanisms inside VLMs for page selection. Specifically, CAPS first enhances attention-based retrieval capability with a small amount of contrastive data, then identifies the most effective attention head through expert head selection, and finally employs an adaptive filtering mechanism to obtain an appropriate number of relevant page candidates. Extensive experiments on four long-document benchmarks demonstrate that CAPS outperforms state-of-the-art embedding-based methods in both retrieval precision and downstream DocQA accuracy. Notably, CAPS achieves these gains using less than 10% of the training data required by competing baselines, highlighting the data efficiency of attention-based page retrieval.

原文摘要

Infographics are composite visual artifacts that combine data visualizations with textual and illustrative elements to communicate information. While recent text-to-image (T2I) models can generate aesthetically appealing images, their reliability in generating infographics remains unclear. Generated infographics may appear correct at first glance but contain easily overlooked issues, such as distorted data encoding or incorrect textual content. We present IGenBench, the first benchmark for evaluating the reliability of text-to-infographic generation, comprising 600 curated test cases spanning 30 infographic types. We design an automated evaluation framework that decomposes reliability verification into atomic yes/no questions based on a taxonomy of 10 question types. We employ multimodal large language models (MLLMs) to verify each question, yielding question-level accuracy (Q-ACC) and infographic-level accuracy (I-ACC). We comprehensively evaluate 10 state-of-the-art T2I models on IGenBench. Our systematic analysis reveals key insights for future model development: (i) a three-tier performance hierarchy with the top model achieving Q-ACC of 0.90 but I-ACC of only 0.49; (ii) data-related dimensions emerging as universal bottlenecks (e.g., Data Completeness: 0.21); and (iii) the challenge of achieving end-to-end correctness across all models.
