Enhancing Mixture-of-Experts Specialization via Cluster-Aware Upcycling

Chu, Sanghyeok, Ahn, Pyunghwan, Song, Gwangmo, Kim, Seung Hwan, Lee, Honglak, Han, Bohyung

Sparse Upcycling provides an efficient way to initialize a Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) model from pretrained dense weights instead of training from scratch. However, since all experts start from identical weights and the router is randomly initialized, the model suffers from expert symmetry and limited early specialization. We propose Cluster- aware Upcycling, a strategy that incorporates semantic structure into MoE initialization. Our method first partitions the dense model's input activations into semantic clusters. Each expert is then initialized using the subspace representations of its corresponding cluster via truncated SVD, while setting the router's initial weights to the cluster centroids. This cluster-aware initialization breaks expert symmetry and encourages early specialization aligned with the data distribution. Furthermore, we introduce an expert-ensemble self-distillation loss that stabilizes training by providing reliable routing guidance using an ensemble teacher. When evaluated on CLIP ViT-B/32 and ViT-B/16, Cluster-aware Upcycling consistently outperforms existing methods across both zero-shot and few-shot benchmarks. The proposed method also produces more diverse and dis- entangled expert representations, reduces inter-expert similarity, and leads to more confident routing behavior.

Image Diffusion Preview with Consistency Solver

Wang, Fu-Yun, Zhou, Hao, Yuan, Liangzhe, Woo, Sanghyun, Gong, Boqing, Han, Bohyung, Yang, Ming-Hsuan, Zhang, Han 等 11 位作者

The slow inference process of image diffusion models significantly degrades interactive user experiences. To address this, we introduce Diffusion Preview, a novel paradigm employing rapid, low-step sampling to generate preliminary outputs for user evaluation, deferring full-step refinement until the preview is deemed satisfactory. Existing acceleration methods, including training-free solvers and post-training distillation, struggle to deliver high-quality previews or ensure consistency between previews and final outputs. In this paper, we propose ConsistencySolver derived from general linear multistep methods, a lightweight, trainable high-order solver optimized via Reinforcement Learning, that enhances preview quality and consistency.Experimental results demonstrate that ConsistencySolver significantly improves generation quality in low-step scenarios, making it ideal for efficient preview-and-refine workflows. Notably, it achieves FID scores on-par with Multistep DPM-Solver using 47% fewer steps, while outperforming distillation baselines. Furthermore, user studies indicate our approach reduces overall user interaction time by nearly 50% while maintaining generation quality.

TIPSv2: Advancing Vision-Language Pretraining with Enhanced Patch-Text Alignment

Cao, Bingyi, Chen, Koert, Maninis, Kevis-Kokitsi, Chen, Kaifeng, Karpur, Arjun, Xia, Ye, Dua, Sahil, Dabral, Tanmaya 等 19 位作者

Recent progress in vision-language pretraining has enabled significant improvements to many downstream computer vision applications, such as classification, retrieval, segmentation and depth prediction. However, a fundamental capability that these models still struggle with is aligning dense patch representations with text embeddings of corresponding concepts. In this work, we investigate this critical issue and propose novel techniques to enhance this capability in foundational vision-language models. First, we reveal that a patch-level distillation procedure significantly boosts dense patch-text alignment -- surprisingly, the patch-text alignment of the distilled student model strongly surpasses that of the teacher model. This observation inspires us to consider modifications to pretraining recipes, leading us to propose iBOT++, an upgrade to the commonly-used iBOT masked image objective, where unmasked tokens also contribute directly to the loss. This dramatically enhances patch-text alignment of pretrained models. Additionally, to improve vision-language pretraining efficiency and effectiveness, we modify the exponential moving average setup in the learning recipe, and introduce a caption sampling strategy to benefit from synthetic captions at different granularities. Combining these components, we develop TIPSv2, a new family of image-text encoder models suitable for a wide range of downstream applications. Through comprehensive experiments on 9 tasks and 20 datasets, we demonstrate strong performance, generally on par with or better than recent vision encoder models. Code and models are released via our project page at https://gdm-tipsv2.github.io/.

PhysGaia: A Physics-aware Benchmark with Multi-Body Interactions for Dynamic Novel View Synthesis

Kim, Mijeong, Kim, Gunhee, Choi, Jungyoon, Roh, Wonjae, Han, Bohyung

We introduce PhysGaia, a novel physics-aware benchmark for Dynamic Novel View Synthesis (DyNVS) that encompasses both structured objects and unstructured physical phenomena. While existing datasets primarily focus on photorealistic appearance, PhysGaia is specifically designed to support physics-consistent dynamic reconstruction. Our benchmark features complex scenarios with rich multi-body interactions, where objects realistically collide and exchange forces. Furthermore, it incorporates a diverse range of materials, including liquid, gas, textile, and rheological substance, moving beyond the rigid-body assumptions prevalent in prior work. To ensure physical fidelity, all scenes in PhysGaia are generated using material-specific physics solvers that strictly adhere to fundamental physical laws. We provide comprehensive ground-truth information, including 3D particle trajectories and physical parameters (e.g., viscosity), enabling the quantitative evaluation of physical modeling. To facilitate research adoption, we also provide integration pipelines for recent 4D Gaussian Splatting models along with our dataset and their results. By addressing the critical shortage of physics-aware benchmarks, PhysGaia can significantly advance research in dynamic view synthesis, physics-based scene understanding, and the integration of deep learning with physical simulation, ultimately enabling more faithful reconstruction and interpretation of complex dynamic scenes.

GP-4DGS: Probabilistic 4D Gaussian Splatting from Monocular Video via Variational Gaussian Processes

Kim, Mijeong, Kim, Jungtaek, Han, Bohyung

We present GP-4DGS, a novel framework that integrates Gaussian Processes (GPs) into 4D Gaussian Splatting (4DGS) for principled probabilistic modeling of dynamic scenes. While existing 4DGS methods focus on deterministic reconstruction, they are inherently limited in capturing motion ambiguity and lack mechanisms to assess prediction reliability. By leveraging the kernel-based probabilistic nature of GPs, our approach introduces three key capabilities: (i) uncertainty quantification for motion predictions, (ii) motion estimation for unobserved or sparsely sampled regions, and (iii) temporal extrapolation beyond observed training frames. To scale GPs to the large number of Gaussian primitives in 4DGS, we design spatio-temporal kernels that capture the correlation structure of deformation fields and adopt variational Gaussian Processes with inducing points for tractable inference. Our experiments show that GP-4DGS enhances reconstruction quality while providing reliable uncertainty estimates that effectively identify regions of high motion ambiguity. By addressing these challenges, our work takes a meaningful step toward bridging probabilistic modeling and neural graphics.

Beyond the Ground Truth: Enhanced Supervision for Image Restoration

Ryou, Donghun, Ha, Inju, Chu, Sanghyeok, Han, Bohyung

Deep learning-based image restoration has achieved significant success. However, when addressing real-world degradations, model performance is limited by the quality of ground-truth images in datasets due to practical constraints in data acquisition. To address this limitation, we propose a novel framework that enhances existing ground truth images to provide higher-quality supervision for real-world restoration. Our framework generates perceptually enhanced ground truth images using super-resolution by incorporating adaptive frequency masks, which are learned by a conditional frequency mask generator. These masks guide the optimal fusion of frequency components from the original ground truth and its super-resolved variants, yielding enhanced ground truth images. This frequency-domain mixup preserves the semantic consistency of the original content while selectively enriching perceptual details, preventing hallucinated artifacts that could compromise fidelity. The enhanced ground truth images are used to train a lightweight output refinement network that can be seamlessly integrated with existing restoration models. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our approach improves the quality of restored images. We further validate the effectiveness of both supervision enhancement and output refinement through user studies.

Low-Resolution Editing is All You Need for High-Resolution Editing

Lee, Junsung, Lee, Hyunsoo, Lee, Yong Jae, Han, Bohyung

High-resolution content creation is rapidly emerging as a central challenge in both the vision and graphics communities. Images serve as the most fundamental modality for visual expression, and content generation that aligns with the user intent requires effective, controllable high-resolution image manipulation mechanisms. However, existing approaches remain limited to low-resolution settings, typically supporting only up to 1K resolution. In this work, we introduce the task of high-resolution image editing and propose a test-time optimization framework to address it. Our method performs patch-wise optimization on high-resolution source images, followed by a fine-grained detail transfer module and a novel synchronization strategy to maintain consistency across patches. Extensive experiments show that our method produces high-quality edits, facilitating high-resolution content creation.
