Projection-Free Gradient Tracking Neurodynamic for Distributed Nonnegative Sparse Optimization

Juntao Li, Qihang Guo, Deyuan Meng

This paper proposes a continuous-time, projection-free neurodynamic system based on gradient tracking for distributed nonnegative sparse optimization. Unlike traditional methods, our approach avoids projecting states onto the feasible set. Instead, it employs gradient tracking to estimate average gradients under heterogeneous costs, coupling primal and dual dynamics such that feasibility and sparsity emerge naturally from the equilibrium conditions. The system ensures unique solutions through a locally Lipschitz vector field and guarantees that every equilibrium corresponds to an exact KKT point. We establish rigorous convergence guarantees for convex objectives through three distinct analytical layers. These include a centralized kernel rate, a computable distributed rate derived from Jacobian analysis without restrictive stability assumptions, and a global exponential stability proof based on Lur'e system theory. Our analysis quantitatively separates these layers, revealing that the convergence rate is primarily limited by graph sparsity and remains robust to variations in momentum time scales. Numerical experiments on strongly convex quadratic problems validate the theoretical rates, demonstrate effective active set recovery, and show that the system maintains stable tail convergence rates even under strong local heterogeneity.

A Bilevel Neurodynamic Approach for Distributed SCAD-Regularized Sparse Least Squares

Juntao Li, Qihang Guo, Deyuan Meng

This paper proposes a bilevel particle swarm optimization (PSO)-neurodynamic method for solving the distributed sparse least-squares problem regularized by the smoothly clipped absolute deviation (SCAD) penalty to global optimality. The SCAD penalty is nonsmooth and nonconvex, so existing distributed neurodynamic methods have not been extended to it directly. Through two-time-scale singular perturbation analysis, a rigorous full-trajectory convergence theory with explicit convergence rates is established for the inner collaborative multi-agent neurodynamic system without requiring the second-order sufficient condition. A theory-guided inner-outer collaborative optimization framework is further developed, in which a red-light green-light sensitivity mechanism is embedded in the outer PSO search to enhance global search while concentrating computational effort on the SCAD shape parameters, thereby improving recovery accuracy and computational efficiency. Simulation results on four sparse-recovery scenarios demonstrate that the proposed method accurately recovers the true sparsity pattern and achieves faster convergence and lower relative error than competing neurodynamic methods.

ActionFlow: A Pipelined Action Acceleration for Vision Language Models on Edge

Yuntao Dai, Hang Gu, Teng Wang, Qianyu Cheng, Yifei Zheng, Zhiyong Qiu, Lei Gong, Wenqi Lou 等 9 位作者

Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models have emerged as a unified paradigm for robotic perception and control, enabling emergent generalization and long-horizon task execution. However, their deployment in dynamic, real-world environments is severely hindered by high inference latency. While smooth robotic interaction requires control frequencies of 20-30 Hz, current VLA models typically operate at only 3-5 Hz on edge devices due to the memory-bound nature of autoregressive decoding. Existing optimizations often require extensive retraining or compromise model accuracy. To bridge this gap, we introduce ActionFlow, a system-level inference framework tailored for resource-constrained edge platforms. At the core of ActionFlow is a Cross-Request Pipelining strategy, a novel scheduler that redefines VLA inference as a macro-pipeline of micro-requests. The strategy intelligently batches memory-bound Decode phases with compute-bound Prefill phases across continuous time steps to maximize hardware utilization. Furthermore, to support this scheduling, we propose a Cross-Request State Packed Forward operator and a Unified KV Ring Buffer, which fuse fragmented memory operations into efficient dense computations. Experimental results demonstrate that ActionFlow achieves a 2.55x improvement in FPS on the OpenVLA-7B model without retraining, enabling real-time dynamic manipulation on edge hardware. Our work is available at https://github.com/Frankd35/Action-Flow.

Anagent For Enhancing Scientific Table & Figure Analysis

Xuehang Guo, Zhiyong Lu, Tom Hope, Qingyun Wang

In scientific research, analysis requires accurately interpreting complex multimodal knowledge, integrating evidence from different sources, and drawing inferences grounded in domain-specific knowledge. However, current artificial intelligence (AI) systems struggle to consistently demonstrate such capabilities. The complexity and variability of scientific tables and figures, combined with heterogeneous structures and long-context requirements, pose fundamental obstacles to scientific table \& figure analysis. To quantify these challenges, we introduce AnaBench, a large-scale benchmark featuring $63,178$ instances from nine scientific domains, systematically categorized along seven complexity dimensions. To tackle these challenges, we propose Anagent, a multi-agent framework for enhanced scientific table \& figure analysis through four specialized agents: Planner decomposes tasks into actionable subtasks, Expert retrieves task-specific information through targeted tool execution, Solver synthesizes information to generate coherent analysis, and Critic performs iterative refinement through five-dimensional quality assessment. We further develop modular training strategies that leverage supervised finetuning and specialized reinforcement learning to optimize individual capabilities while maintaining effective collaboration. Comprehensive evaluation across 170 subdomains demonstrates that Anagent achieves substantial improvements, up to $\uparrow 13.43\%$ in training-free settings and $\uparrow 42.12\%$ with finetuning, while revealing that task-oriented reasoning and context-aware problem-solving are essential for high-quality scientific table \& figure analysis. HiMA-Ecom: A Long-Horizon Memory Benchmark for Hierarchical Multi-Agent E-commerce Assistants

Junxing Hu, Ai Han, Haolan Zhan, Pu Wei, Zhiqian Zhang, Yuhang Guo, Jiawei Lu, Zhen Chen 等 11 位作者

Long-horizon agentic systems become long-context systems by accumulation rather than through a single long document, since every step reassembles a prompt from role instructions, tool and sub-agent descriptions, recalled memories, dialogue history, and previous tool outputs, separately for every agent. This paper studies how such accumulated context can be trained, evaluated, and managed in hierarchical multi-agent assistants. We present HiMA-Ecom, a hierarchical multi-agent benchmark for e-commerce assistants with 22.8K instances, of which 17.7K carry memory entries in context, pairing agent-specific supervised fine-tuning data with system-level supervision for end-to-end multi-agent reinforcement learning. Building upon it, HiMA-R1 keeps the context budget of a trajectory under control through Variance-Reduction Group Relative Policy Optimization (VR-GRPO), which samples along an initial trajectory so that sampling cost grows additively with trajectory length and updates the agents with the largest reward variance, together with an efficiency reward on trajectory length and a memory evolution mechanism that repurposes GRPO rewards as cost-free signals for what stays in context. Agents built upon 3B and 7B open-source models match DeepSeek-R1 and surpass DeepSeek-V3 by 6.0 points on average, while reward-driven memory reduces the update steps needed for convergence by roughly 55%.

Enhancing Software Engineering Through Closed-Loop Memory Optimization

Xuehang Guo, Xingyao Wang, Zora Zhiruo Wang, Qingyun Wang, Graham Neubig, Heng Ji

Large language models (LLMs) have enabled powerful software engineering (SE) agents capable of navigating complex codebases and resolving real-world issues. However, these agents remain fundamentally episodic: they fail to retain, refine, and reuse experiences across tasks, repeatedly reconstructing context from scratch and reproducing similar mistakes. Even with memory support, they offer no remedy for the absence of a principled, task-agnostic \textit{memory utility}, making them difficult to evaluate rigorously or generalize across agents and settings. To tackle these limitations, we introduce MemOp, a closed-loop framework for memory augmentation in SE agents. MemOp grounds memory utility in \textit{validated downstream impact}, establishing utility as both a task-agnostic \textbf{evaluation benchmark} and an annotation-free \textbf{optimization signal}. Evaluating MemOp across four benchmarks, three programming languages, and two SE agents, under complementary \textit{single-episode} and \textit{cross-episode} memory augmentation, results demonstrate the \textbf{effectiveness} of MemOp, achieving absolute gains of up to $\uparrow5.25\%$ in success rate and $\uparrow4.63\%$ in resolve efficiency, while notably reducing deployment cost by $\geq10.33\%$. MemOp further exhibits \textbf{generalizability} across SE agents, memory backbones, and optimization algorithms, together with \textbf{transferability} of MemOp-trained memory model to unseen programming languages and SE activities. Steganography Beyond Pixels: Reimagining Image Steganography as Cross-Modal Linguistic Communication

Ren Lijing , Guangdong Mechanical & Electrical Polytechnic, Denghui Zhang Guangzhou University

The rising sophistication of digital surveillance poses hurdles for concealing sensitive data within innocuous communication channels. Conventional image steganography relies on detectable pixel-level perturbations. In this paper, we introduce a novel steganography framework that fundamentally reorients the steganographic containers from the visual domain to the linguistic domain. To seamlessly bridge the gap from raw pixels to discriminative logits, we leverage the reversible latent space of discrete diffusion models to compress high-resolution secret images into lightweight binary payloads. The semantic stability of textual data ensures the integrity of the hidden payload across diverse platforms. Extensive evaluations confirm that this cross-modal approach establishes a superior equilibrium between embedding capacity and statistical undetectability in comparison to existing paradigms.

PEAP: Proactive Embodied Action Sequence Planning with Joint Understanding of Vision and Audio Perception

Tianwei Lan, Jiaqi Wu, Zeming Liu, Zhaoxin Fan Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Haifeng Wang Baidu, Yuhang Guo

Embodied Action Sequence Planning focuses on the capability of embodied agents to implement action planning via environmental perception. This technology enables diverse intelligent assistance for real-world scenarios such as home and office environments. To address the limitations of existing embodied agents in meeting the requirement for proactivity and achieving joint understanding of visual and audio information, this study investigates the ability of embodied agents to proactively provide assistance through action sequence planning based on joint understanding of vision and audio perception without explicit human instructions. Correspondingly, we propose PEAP, the first multimodal proactive embodied action sequence planning dataset. We evaluate the performance of multiple Large Language Models on the PEAP dataset. The results demonstrate that these models still exhibit significant deficiencies on this task particularly lacking accurate environmental perception capabilities. Furthermore, ablation experiment and replacement experiment further corroborate that the joint understanding of multimodal information can significantly improve the models’ performance on proactive embodied action sequence planning task.

Beyond Literal Mapping: Benchmarking and Improving Non-Literal Translation Evaluation

Yanzhi Tian Beijing Institute of Technology, Cunxiang Wang, Zeming Liu, Heyan Huang Beijing Institute of Technology, Wenbo Yu, Dawei Song Beijing Institute of Technology and Open University, Jie Tang Tsinghua University, Tsinghua University, Yuhang Guo

Large Language Models (LLMs) have significantly advanced Machine Translation (MT), applying them to linguistically complex domains-such as Social Network Services, literature etc. In these scenarios, translations often require handling non-literal expressions, leading to the inaccuracy of MT metrics. To systematically investigate the reliability of MT metrics, we first curate a meta-evaluation dataset focused on non-literal translations, namely MENT. MENT encompasses four non-literal translation domains and features source sentences paired with translations from diverse MT systems, with 7,530 human-annotated scores on translation quality. Experimental results reveal the inaccuracies of traditional MT metrics and the limitations of LLM-as-a-Judge, particularly the knowledge cutoff and score inconsistency problem. To mitigate these limitations, we propose RATE, a novel agentic translation evaluation framework, centered by a reflective Core Agent that dynamically invokes specialized sub-agents. Experimental results indicate the efficacy of RATE, achieving an improvement of at least 3.2 points in combined system- and segment-level correlation with human judgments compared with current methods. Further experiments demonstrate the robustness of RATE to general-domain MT evaluation. Code and dataset are available at: https://github.com/BITHLP/RATE.

Paper2Rebuttal: A Multi-Agent Framework for Transparent Author Response Assistance

Qianli Ma Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Chang Guo, Zhiheng Tian, Siyu Wang, Jipeng Xiao, Yuanhao Yue Alibaba Group, Zhipeng Zhang Shanghai Jiaotong University and Didi Research

Writing effective rebuttals is a high-stakes task that demands more than linguistic fluency, as it requires precise alignment between reviewer intent and manuscript details. Current solutions typically treat this as a direct-to-text generation problem, suffering from hallucination, overlooked critiques, and a lack of verifiable grounding. To address these limitations, we introduce RebuttalAgent, the first multi-agents framework that reframes rebuttal generation as an evidence-centric planning task. Our system decomposes complex feedback into atomic concerns and dynamically constructs hybrid contexts by synthesizing compressed summaries with high-fidelity text while integrating an autonomous and on-demand external search module to resolve concerns requiring outside literature. By generating an inspectable response plan before drafting, RebuttalAgent ensures that every argument is explicitly anchored in internal or external evidence. We validate our approach on the proposed RebuttalBench and demonstrate that our pipeline outperforms strong baselines in coverage, faithfulness, and strategic coherence, offering a transparent and controllable assistant for the peer review process. Code will be released.

CiteGuard: Faithful Citation Attribution for LLMs via Retrieval-Augmented Validation

Yee Man Choi University of Waterloo, Xuehang Guo, Yi R. Fung, Qingyun Wang College of William and Mary

Large Language Models (LLMs) have emerged as powerful assistants for scientific writing. However, concerns remain about the quality and reliability of the generated text, including citation accuracy and faithfulness. While most recent work relies on methods such as LLM-as-a-Judge, the reliability of LLM-as-a-Judge alone is also in doubt. In this work, we reframe citation evaluation as a problem of citation attribution alignment, which assesses whether LLM-generated citations match those a human author would include for the same text. We propose CiteGuard, a retrieval-aware agent framework designed to provide more faithful grounding for citation validation. CiteGuard improves over the prior baseline by 10 percentage points and achieves up to 68.1% accuracy on the CiteME benchmark, approaching human performance (69.2%). It also identifies alternative valid citations and demonstrates generalization ability for cross-domain citation attribution.

Mem^2Evolve: Towards Self-Evolving Agents via Co-Evolutionary Capability Expansion and Experience Distillation

Zihao Cheng, Zeming Liu, Yingyu Shan, Xinyi Wang, Xiangrong Zhu, Yunpu Ma Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München and Siemens Corporate Research, Hongru Wang, Yuhang Guo 等 10 位作者

While large language model–powered agents can self-evolve by accumulating experience or by dynamically creating new assets (i.e., tools or expert agents), existing frameworks typically treat these two evolutionary processes in isolation. This separation overlooks their intrinsic interdependence: the former is inherently bounded by a manually predefined static toolset, while the latter generates new assets from scratch without experiential guidance, leading to limited capability growth and unstable evolution. To address this limitation, we introduce a novel paradigm of co-evolutionary Capability Expansion and Experience Distillation. Guided by this paradigm, we propose the Mem^{\textbf{2}}Evolve, which integrates two core components: Experience Memory and Asset Memory. Specifically, Mem^{2}Evolve leverages accumulated experience to guide the dynamic creation of assets, thereby expanding the agent’s capability space while simultaneously acquiring new experience to achieve co-evolution. Extensive experiments across 6 task categories and 8 benchmarks demonstrate that Mem^{2}Evolve achieves improvement of 18.53% over standard LLMs, 11.80% over agents evolving solely through experience, and 6.46% over those evolving solely through asset creation, establishing it as a substantially more effective and stable self-evolving agent framework.
