VIGOR: Zero-Shot Visual Generalization via Latent-Space Consistency in Model-Based Reinforcement Learning

Mingyu Park, Samyeul Noh, Hyun Myung, Donghwan Lee

原文摘要

Model-based reinforcement learning (MBRL) achieves strong sample efficiency by planning in learned latent dynamics but degrades substantially under unseen visual distractions such as background, lighting, or camera changes. Unlike model-free RL, where encoder perturbations affect only single-step predictions, MBRL suffers from a two-level vulnerability: distractions push encoder outputs out of distribution, and these errors compound through recursive latent rollouts. We propose visual generalization via latent-space consistency in model-based RL (VIGOR), which enables zero-shot generalization to unseen distractions while retaining its backbone's sample efficiency. VIGOR comprises three interdependent components: (i) asymmetric weak-to-strong augmentation, which pairs weak-only and weak-to-strong latent views within a batch; (ii) dynamics-level consistency, which enforces augmentation-invariant transition predictions via direct latent regression; and (iii) encoder-level stabilization, which prevents encoder drift under the cross-augmentation supervision of (ii). On the DeepMind Control Suite (DMC) and Robosuite, VIGOR instantiated on TD-MPC2 outperforms state-of-the-art model-free and model-based baselines in zero-shot generalization, surpassing the second-best baseline by 3.4% on DMC and 43.6% on Robosuite, with sample efficiency comparable to its backbone and fewer environment interactions than the other baselines. Ablations show that VIGOR is augmentation-agnostic: augmentations from distinct perturbation families preserve strong generalization, confirming that latent-space consistency, not the augmentation choice, drives robustness. A second instantiation on DreamerV3, a structurally distinct recurrent state-space model, also improves zero-shot generalization on both benchmarks, indicating backbone-agnostic benefits. Reflection-Robust Stereo Visual-Inertial Odometry via Kalman-Filtered Ground-Height Estimation

Uihyun Hwang, Sungjae Shin, Dongjae Kim, Hyun Myung

原文摘要

Visual-inertial odometry relies on visual features that correspond to 3D points with consistent projections across sequential frames. In reflective indoor-floor environments, however, specular floor patterns can be detected and triangulated as virtual features below the physical ground plane, producing unreliable feature associations and inconsistent visual residuals. This paper proposes a lightweight reflection-aware front-end for feature-based stereo VIO. Rather than suppressing all floor-region features, the proposed method estimates the ground height in real time and rejects only feature candidates whose inferred 3D positions are below the estimated ground height. A floor-region mask restricts the validation process to reflection-prone regions, while stereo height uncertainty and pose uncertainty are used to construct frame-level ground-height measurements. A scalar Kalman filter with Normalized Innovation Squared (NIS) gating then provides a stable ground-height estimate, and an uncertainty-aware safety margin is used for selective below-ground virtual feature rejection. Experiments on real reflective-floor indoor sequences show that the proposed front-end generally improves trajectory accuracy in reflection-dominant environments while maintaining accurate ground-height estimates and recovering from actual ground-height changes.

MAPO: Mixture of Experts with Alternating Policy Optimization for Universal Humanoid Motion Tracking

Seonghyeon Lim, Hyeonwoo Lee, Mincheol Kim, Kimin Lee, Hyun Myung

原文摘要

Universal humanoid motion tracking is essential for enabling humanoid robots to perform diverse tasks in human environments. To capture the wide diversity of human motions, mixture-of-experts (MoE) policies have been widely adopted, leveraging dynamic routing to enhance policy expressiveness. However, we identify that divergence between old and updated policies can be misestimated during policy-gradient updates of MoE policies, due to their dynamic routing. Because most policy-gradient algorithms regulate policy updates based on the divergence, this misestimation can lead to either overly conservative or excessively large updates, which can yield a suboptimal policy. In this paper, we propose Mixture of Experts with Alternating Policy Optimization (MAPO), which alternately optimizes the router and the experts to avoid the divergence misestimation. MAPO consistently tracks 182 motions that PPO with MoE fails to track, whereas PPO with MoE tracks only one motion that MAPO fails to track. MAPO also attains the highest tracking success rate among the compared methods and the lowest tracking error across most error metrics, demonstrating its superior performance.
