SenseShift6D: Multimodal RGB-D Benchmarking for Robust 6D Pose Estimation across Environment and Sensor Variations

Yegyu Han, Taegyoon Yoon, Dayeon Woo, Sojeong Kim, Hyung-Sin Kim

原文摘要

Recent advances on 6D object pose estimation have achieved high performance on representative benchmarks such as LM-O, YCB-V, and T-Less. These datasets capture natural-occurring variations in illumination and camera setup but do not systematically explore the effects of controllable sensor configurations, such as exposure, gain, and depth-sensor modes. To bridge this gap, we introduce SenseShift6D, the first RGB-D object-pose benchmark that physically sweeps 13 RGB exposures, 9 RGB gains, auto-exposure, 4 depth-capture modes, and 5 illumination levels. For six common household objects, we acquire 198.8k RGB and 20.0k depth images (i.e., 795.4k RGB-D scenes), providing 1,380 unique sensor-lighting permutations per object pose. Experiments with state-of-the-art pretrained, generalizable pose estimators reveal substantial performance variation across lighting and sensor settings, despite their large-scale pretraining. Strikingly, even instance-level estimators-trained and tested on identical objects and backgrounds-exhibit pronounced sensitivity to environmental and sensor shifts. These findings establish sensor- and environment-aware robustness as an underexplored yet essential dimension of 6D pose estimation. To illustrate the opportunity enabled by this benchmark, we evaluate test-time sensor selection without retraining. An idealized controller yields remarkable gains of up to +16.2 pp for generalizable models, whereas a practical consistency-based proxy provides only limited improvements, highlighting substantial headroom and the need for future research on reliable sensor-aware adaptation. Back to the Familiar Future: Failure Recovery for VLA Policies via Pre-Imagined Milestone Selection

原文摘要

Vision-language-action (VLA) policies can deviate from nominal trajectories during manipulation, even when tasks remain physically feasible. Recovering from these deviations is challenging, as they push the policy into unfamiliar state spaces where direct re-planning frequently destabilizes action sequences. We propose Back to the Familiar Future (B2FF), a recovery framework for foresight-driven VLAs that leverages future visual conditioning as a recovery interface. Before execution, the VLA generates a milestone bank of familiar future states conditioned on the clean initial observation. At recovery time, a recoverability-aware selector selects a recovery milestone from this bank and enforces it as a fixed visual goal. This enables the VLA to robustly map off-trajectory observations back to a familiar future. On failure-injected LIBERO, under controlled recovery timing aligned with the injected failure, B2FF increases the average success rate of a baseline VLA from 56.3% to 74.0%, demonstrating that pre-imagined milestones can guide recovery without fine-tuning the low-level action generator.

Tracking the Discriminative Axis: Dual Prototypes for Test-Time OOD Detection Under Covariate Shift

Wooseok Lee, Jin Mo Yang, Saewoong Bahk, Hyung-Sin Kim

原文摘要

For reliable deployment of deep-learning systems, out-of-distribution (OOD) detection is indispensable. In the real world, where test-time inputs often arrive as streaming mixtures of in-distribution (ID) and OOD samples under evolving covariate shifts, OOD samples are domain-constrained and bounded by the environment, and both ID and OOD are jointly affected by the same covariate factors. Existing methods typically assume a stationary ID distribution, but this assumption breaks down in such settings, leading to severe performance degradation. We empirically discover that, even under covariate shift, covariate-shifted ID (csID) and OOD (csOOD) samples remain separable along a discriminative axis in feature space. Building on this observation, we propose DART, a test-time, online OOD detection method that dynamically tracks dual prototypes -- one for ID and the other for OOD -- to recover the drifting discriminative axis, augmented with multi-layer fusion and flip correction for robustness. Extensive experiments on a wide range of challenging benchmarks, where all datasets are subjected to 15 common corruption types at severity level 5, demonstrate that our method significantly improves performance, yielding 15.32 percentage points (pp) AUROC gain and 49.15 pp FPR@95TPR reduction on ImageNet-C vs. Textures-C compared to established baselines. These results highlight the potential of the test-time discriminative axis tracking for dependable OOD detection in dynamically changing environments.
