Despite decades of progress, image codecs remain difficult to adapt to diverse real-world compression scenarios for two main reasons. First, most image codecs are optimized for a specific objective and require substantial redevelopment when the compression goal changes. Second, they typically assume clean inputs, whereas sensor-captured images often contain degradations that alter rate-quality behavior. To address these challenges, we propose Practical Image Coding Agents (PICA), a multi-agent framework that adapts existing codecs to diverse user requirements and potentially degraded inputs. PICA consists of four collaborative agents: a Perception agent that interprets user intent and analyzes image content, an Improvement agent that jointly considers bitrate and reconstruction quality to guide pre-coding restoration, a Coding agent that refines quality-control settings from global to regional levels, and an After-coding improvement agent that addresses residual degradations and compression-induced artifacts through restoration guided solely by image quality. To enable codec-agnostic regional adaptation, we introduce Agentic ROI Coding (AROIC), which treats the codec as a black box and allows the agent to automatically schedule, execute, evaluate, and reflect ROI coding plans without architectural modifications or codec-specific retraining. We integrate these four agents with a Scenario-Guided Quality-Rate (SGQR) evaluation strategy to enable more effective scenario-adaptive compression across heterogeneous codecs. Comprehensive experiments on clean, noisy, and blurred images across standard, perceptual, and machine-vision compression scenarios demonstrate that PICA consistently enhances the compression performance of both the conventional H.266/VVC codec and the neural Cheng2020 codec, outperforming competing compression methods on the Kodak, CLIC2020, and HEVC datasets.

Recommendation models consume increasingly long, attribute-rich user histories, making small continuous updates and repeated large reads a central storage asymmetry. We present USDB, ByteDance's unified sequence storage practice for streaming and batch workloads. CascadeLSM time-based compaction stages materialize application-specific histories; differentiated replicas share persistent files; partial dumps reconstruct inference inputs from captured recent state and versioned history; and a hybrid columnar format accelerates projected reads. These designs reuse maintenance results across ingestion, inference, and training. Production migration records show 85.8% lower mean write latency, while normalized deployment accounting shows 42.1% lower infrastructure cost. Controlled comparisons with an Optimized RocksDB sequence baseline show faster long-history reads across projections and client loads. Aggregation pushdown sustains 8.5x the throughput of ordinary reads under a constrained receive budget. Production reconstruction and direct-file training results demonstrate how shared sequence maintenance supports fresh serving and repeated historical access.

In the fields of advertising design, artistic creation, and cultural dissemination, there is an increasingly urgent demand for high-quality images that cater to fine-grained aesthetic preferences. Although existing large-scale models can generally meet basic requirements for clarity and alignment with textual elements, they still face significant bottlenecks in achieving precise control and aesthetic optimization. To address this limitation, we propose a set of comprehensive preference indicators across two major dimensions, text-image consistency and aesthetic quality, encompassing multiple criteria ranging from exposure and clarity to visual guidance and innovativeness. Building on these indicators, we have developed a generative framework named AesX to steer the model consistently toward a generation path that more closely aligns with human aesthetic sensibilities. Our experimental findings demonstrate that this approach yields significant improvements in both target recognition accuracy and overall visual aesthetic presentation.

Test-time scaling via explicit reasoning trajectories significantly boosts large language model (LLM) performance but often triggers overthinking. To explore this, we analyze reasoning through two lenses: Reasoning Length Dynamics, which reveals a compensatory trade-off between thinking and answer content length that eventually leads to thinking redundancy, and Reasoning Semantic Dynamics, which identifies semantic convergence and repetitive oscillations. These dynamics uncover an instance-specific Reasoning Completion Point (RCP), beyond which computation continues without further performance gain. Since the RCP varies across instances, we propose a Reasoning Completion Point Detector (RCPD), an inference-time early-exit method that identifies the RCP by monitoring the rank dynamics of termination tokens (e.g., lt;/think gt;). Across AIME and GPQA benchmarks using Qwen3 and DeepSeek-R1, RCPD reduces token usage by up to 44% while preserving accuracy, offering a principled approach to efficient test-time scaling.

GUI agents that interact with graphical interfaces on behalf of users are a promising direction for practical AI assistants, yet training them is hindered by scarce suitable environments. We present InfiniteWeb, a system that automatically generates functional web environments at scale for GUI agent training. While LLMs perform well on generating a single webpage, building a realistic and functional website with many interconnected pages faces challenges. We address these challenges through unified specification, task-centric test-driven development, and combining website seed variation with reference design images. Our system also generates verifiable task evaluators enabling dense reward signals for reinforcement learning. Experiments show that our system surpasses commercial coding agents at realistic website construction, and GUI agents trained on our generated environments achieve significant performance improvements on OSWorld and Online-Mind2Web, demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed system.

The widespread integration of Large Language Models (LLMs) necessitates rigorous and systematic safety evaluation. Existing paradigms either rely on constructed benchmarks to assess safety from predefined perspectives, or employ dynamic red-teaming to probe potential vulnerabilities. While effective, these approaches face challenges, as they depend heavily on expert domain knowledge, offer limited systematic guarantees, and are vulnerable to rapid obsolescence. To address these limitations, we introduce a novel framework POLARIS that brings the rigor of specification-based software testing to AI safety. POLARIS first compiles unstructured natural-language policies into First-Order Logic (FOL) representations, establishing a traceable link between high-level rules and concrete test cases. This formalization enables the construction of a Semantic Policy Graph, where complex policy violation scenarios are encoded as traversable paths. By systematically exploring this graph, POLARIS uncovers compositional violation patterns, which are then instantiated into executable natural-language test queries, enabling coverage-driven and reproducible safety testing. Experiments demonstrate that POLARIS achieves higher policy coverage and attack success counts compared to established baselines. Crucially, by bridging formal methods and AI safety, POLARIS provides a principled, automated approach to ensuring LLMs adhere to safety-critical policies with verifiable traceability.

The widespread deployment of Large Language Models (LLMs) has spurred significant progress in the detection of LLM-generated text. However, existing detection methods often rely on statistical features that are insufficient for reliable detection; for example, even though LLM-generated and human-written texts exhibit different probability distributions in surrogate models, they can produce nearly identical entropy values, thereby conflating the two types of text. In this paper, we propose that modulating the decoding temperature and monitoring how the probability distributions respond can better probe the intrinsic discrepancies between two types of text. Building upon this insight, we introduce a new feature termed Temperature Sensitivity (TS) and demonstrate that LLM-generated text tends to exhibit higher TS than human-written text. Finally, we propose NTS, a novel and simple zero-shot detector built upon normalized temperature sensitivity. Extensive experiments across three datasets, multiple domains, and various source models demonstrate the superior effectiveness and robustness of our proposed approach. Large Language Models (LLMs) suffer from hallucinations, severely undermining their reliability. While white-box hallucination detection methods that leverage hidden states prevail, they fail to identify and focus on fact-critical information when analyzing token sequences. To address this, we propose LAFaCT, a Localize-then-Analyze detection framework. It first localizes fact-critical tokens using Factual Criticality, a novel metric derived from feature attribution. A subsequent stage then performs a focused sequential analysis on their hidden states. Extensive experiments on eight benchmarks and multiple model families confirm LAFaCT as the new state-of-the-art, with in-depth analyses validating the effectiveness of its core token-localization strategy.
