Mathematical modeling turns an open-ended real-world problem into assumptions, a model, a solution, and a defended recommendation, and its answers matter only if they are both close to a credible reference and physically feasible; existing benchmarks either score solver fragments or grade reports with an LLM judge, leaving those numbers unchecked. We introduce TB-MathModel (the Terminal-style Mathematical Modeling Bench), the first benchmark to make complete contest-style modeling problems agentic, verifiable, and terminal at once, over 18 real CUMCM and MCM problems (2023--2025). Each task ships the verbatim statement, official attachments, and figures in a containerized terminal; the agent returns one JSON artifact, scored on the numeric core of the final question against a reproduction of the Outstanding-award paper. Two design choices distinguish it: direction-aware, one-sided scoring, which never penalises beating the anchor, and two-layer feasibility verification---a programmatic gate over six decidable invariant forms plus 624 Lean~4 obligations---with a hard gate that zeroes infeasible answers. Each task is scored against a panel of human outstanding papers rather than one, so a model must be close to many accepted answers; across seven multimodal entries (three seeds each) the strongest reach a multi-reference O-Eval of 64.58\%, while the \$2.54 open model holds 59.81\% at $1/100$ the cost. TB-MathModel turns the numeric core of modeling into a reproducible, machine-checkable signal for measuring long-horizon modeling competence and for collecting agent trajectories. TabCUQ: Context-Uncertainty Quantification for Tabular Foundation Models

Yuebei Shi, Molei Liu, Zijian Guo

原文摘要

Tabular foundation models use in-context learning to estimate conditional expected outcomes and average treatment effects for specific groups of individuals. Using these estimates to guide scientific decisions requires reliable uncertainty quantification. The challenge is to account simultaneously for two sources of uncertainty: limited-context bias and context variation arising from the small labeled sample supplied at inference. Predictive spread does not directly quantify both sources of uncertainty, and we observe that the ordinary bootstrap may substantially overestimate context variation, whereas subsampling may underestimate it. We introduce TabCUQ, a perturbation-based framework that injects noise into observed outcomes and applies the foundation model to the perturbed contexts. TabCUQ estimates context variation using wild-bootstrap dispersion and accounts for limited-context bias using the maximum deviation between perturbed and original estimates. For a kernel-regression analogue whose estimation error admits an exact decomposition into these two components, we show that our framework provides asymptotically valid pointwise coverage. In simulations, TabCUQ substantially improves coverage, with average interval widths typically about twice those of an oracle bias-aware benchmark. Across seven real-world tasks, it also improves coverage of reference functions learned from much larger samples.

StablePCA: Distributionally Robust Learning of Shared Representations from Multi-Source Data

Zhenyu Wang, Molei Liu, Jing Lei, Francis Bach, Zijian Guo

原文摘要

When synthesizing multi-source high-dimensional data, a key objective is to extract low-dimensional representations that effectively approximate the original features across different sources. Such representations facilitate the discovery of transferable structures and help mitigate systematic biases such as batch effects. We introduce Stable Principal Component Analysis (StablePCA), a distributionally robust framework for constructing stable latent representations by maximizing the worst-case explained variance over multiple sources. A primary challenge in extending classical PCA to the multi-source setting lies in the nonconvex rank constraint, which renders the StablePCA formulation a nonconvex optimization problem. To overcome this challenge, we conduct a convex relaxation of StablePCA and develop an efficient Mirror-Prox algorithm to solve the relaxed problem, with global convergence guarantees. Since the relaxed problem generally differs from the original formulation, we further introduce a data-dependent certificate to assess how well the algorithm solves the original nonconvex problem and establish the condition under which the relaxation is tight. Finally, we explore alternative distributionally robust formulations of multi-source PCA based on different loss functions.

原文摘要

Synthetic data has emerged as a crucial solution to the data scarcity bottleneck in large language models (LLMs), particularly for specialized domains and low-resource languages. However, the broader adoption of existing synthetic data tools is severely hindered by convoluted workflows, fragmented data standards, and limited scalability across modalities. To address these limitations, we develop DataArc-SynData-Toolkit, an open-source framework featuring: (1) a configuration-driven, end-to-end pipeline equipped with an intuitive visual interface and simplified CLI for exceptional usability; (2) a unified, quality-controllable synthesis paradigm that standardizes multi-source data generation to ensure high reusability; and (3) a highly modular architecture designed for seamless multimodal, multilingual, and multi-task adaptation. We apply the toolkit in multiple application scenarios. Experimental results demonstrate that our toolkit achieves an optimal balance between generation efficiency and data quality. By offering an end-to-end and visually interactive pipeline, DataArc-SynData-Toolkit significantly lowers the technical barrier to synthetic data generation and subsequent model training, accelerating its practical deployment in real-world applications.

ProactiveEval: A Unified Evaluation Framework for Proactive Dialogue Agents

Tianjian Liu, Fanqi Wan Stepfun, Jiajian Guo, Xiaojun Quan Shenzhen Loop Area Institute

原文摘要

Proactive dialogue has emerged as a critical and challenging research problem in advancing large language models (LLMs). Existing works predominantly focus on domain-specific or task-oriented scenarios, which leads to fragmented evaluations and limits the comprehensive exploration of models’ proactive dialogue abilities. In this work, we propose ProactiveEval, a unified framework for evaluating proactive dialogue capabilities of LLMs. This framework decomposes proactive dialogue into target planning and dialogue guidance, establishing evaluation metrics across various domains. Moreover, it also enables the automatic generation of diverse and challenging evaluation data. Based on the proposed framework, we develop 328 evaluation environments spanning 6 distinct domains. Through experiments with 22 different types of LLMs, we show that DeepSeek-R1 and Claude-3.7-Sonnet exhibit exceptional performance on target planning and dialogue guidance tasks, respectively. Finally, we investigate how reasoning capabilities influence proactive behaviors and discuss their implications for future model development. Our code and data are available at the https://github.com/liutj9/ProactiveEval.
