Scaling Limits of Long-Context Transformers

Giuseppe Bruno, Shi Chen, Zhengjiang Lin, Yury Polyanskiy, Philippe Rigollet

We study the long-context limit of softmax self-attention with a fixed query and a random context of $n$ i.i.d. keys on the sphere with the intrinsic dimension of the key distribution held fixed, viewing the inverse temperature $β_n$ as the scaling parameter that decides whether attention degenerates into uniform averaging or collapses onto the single closest key. We show that the critical scale at which selectivity emerges is determined by the local exponent of the distance-to-query distribution near zero rather than by global features of the context, and scales like $β_n^\ast \asymp n^{2/(d-1)}$ for uniform keys on $\mathbb{S}^{d-1}$. Furthermore, we characterize the limiting laws of the ordered attention weights and of the attention output across all regimes of $β_n$: a subcritical regime in which the output reduces to a local average around $q$ with explicit deterministic bias and Gaussian fluctuations; a critical regime in which a finite collection of nearest keys retains macroscopic mass without single-key collapse; and a supercritical regime in which all mass concentrates on the closest key. Of notable interest is the subcritical case with identity value matrix where the attention map approximately implements a backward heat equation.

Beyond Isolated Dots: Benchmarking Structured Table Construction as Deep Knowledge Extraction

Tianyun Zhong, Guozhao Mo, Yanjiang Liu, Yihan Chen, Lingdi Kong, Xuanang Chen, Yaojie Lu, Hongyu Lin 等 12 位作者

Large language models (LLMs) are increasingly expected to extract and synthesize structured information from complex real-world documents, yet they typically produce unstructured, hard-to-verify paragraph-style outputs. We introduce AOE (Arranged and Organized Extraction), a bilingual benchmark that evaluates LLMs' ability to distill long-form, multi-document inputs (64k to 1.8M tokens) into structured tables. AOE comprises 12 tasks across four domains (academic, financial, legal, and medical), each grounded in genuine analytical needs, with schema guidance provided to isolate extraction quality from formatting variance. We evaluate 12 frontier LLMs (both open-weight and proprietary) under four generation settings of increasing autonomy: direct full-document input, RAG-based retrieval, offline document-browsing agent, and online web-search agent. Even the best-performing model achieves only 42.7% Cell F1, and retrieval-augmented approaches often degrade rather than improve performance, revealing that structured extraction from long contexts remains a fundamental challenge - an "Area of Effect" (AOE) that impacts all tested systems.

Distill to Think, Foresee to Act: Cognitive-Physical Reinforcement Learning for Autonomous Driving

Yang Wu, Qiang Meng, Zhaojiang Liu, Youquan Liu, Jian Yang, Jin Xie

Current end-to-end autonomous driving models are fundamentally constrained by the behavioral cloning ceiling of imitation learning. While reinforcement learning offers a path to smarter autonomy, it demands two missing pieces of infrastructure: (1) a cognitive foundation that understands traffic semantics and driving intent, and (2) a foresighted physical environment that can anticipate the consequences of candidate actions. To this end, we propose CoPhy, a CognitivePhysical reinforcement learning framework for autonomous driving. To distill to think, we distill VLM knowledge into the BEV encoder and then discard the VLM entirely, retaining cognitive ability at zero inference cost while releasing the cognitive channel as a pluggable interface for optional human language commands. To foresee to act, we build an auto-regressive BEV world model that explicitly predicts future semantic maps conditioned on candidate actions, serving as an interpretable physical sandbox from which safety metrics are directly derived. Built upon this dual infrastructure, we optimize the driving policy via GRPO with a novel dual-reward mechanism: a physical reward derived from BEV rollouts enforces hard safety constraints, while a cognitive reward from a language-aligned scorer ensures intent compliance. Extensive experiments demonstrate that CoPhy not only achieves state-of-the-art results on NAVSIM v1 and v2 benchmarks, but also enables safer driving via cognitively informed scene compliance and flexible intent control through user-defined language instructions. Efficient Collaborative LLM Fine-Tuning over Heterogeneous Mobile Devices via Many Backbones to One Side-Network Tuning

Xingke Yang, Liang Li, Sicong Li, Liwei Guan, Hao Wang, Xiaoqi Qi, Jiang Liu, Xin Fu 等 9 位作者

Collaboratively fine-tuning (FT) large language models (LLMs) over heterogeneous mobile devices fosters immense potential applications of personalized intelligence. However, such a vision faces critical system challenges. Existing federated LLM fine-tuning approaches remain limited by prohibitive on-device resource overhead, straggler-prone synchronous aggregation, and the assumption of a unified pretrained backbone across heterogeneous devices. In this paper, we propose EC-MobiLLM, a novel design for efficient collaborative LLM fine-tuning across heterogeneous mobile devices and heterogeneous backbones. EC-MobiLLM adopts a server-assisted side-tuning paradigm to minimize on-device overhead and pioneers non-blocking asynchronous collaboration to accelerate training. Moreover, EC-MobiLLM introduces adaptive feature alignment to support collaboration across heterogeneous backbones, aligning with practical needs in real-world deployments. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that EC-MobiLLM can maintain robust fine-tuning performance while achieving extremely low on-device memory, with at least 95.2\% reduction in computation overhead, 93.2\% reduction in communication costs and $5.1\times$ faster convergence compared to existing methods, validating its efficacy for practical LLM adaptation over heterogeneous mobile devices.

Eco-MobiLLM: Efficient LLM Fine-Tuning on the Mobile Device via Server Assisted Side-Tuning

Xingke Yang, Liang Li, Zhiyi Wan, Sicong Li, Xiaoqi Qi, Jiang Liu, Tomoaki Ohtsuki, Xin Fu 等 9 位作者

There is a huge gap between numerous intriguing applications fostered by on-device large language model (LLM) fine-tuning (FT) from fresh mobile data and the limited resources of a mobile device. While existing server-assisted methods (e.g., split learning or side-tuning) may enable LLM FT on the local mobile device, they suffer from heavy communication burdens of activation transmissions. In addition, their multiple on-device forward passes over the same samples across training epochs lead to substantial iterative computation on the mobile device. To address those issues, we develop Eco-MobiLLM, an efficient LLM FT method which can be deployed on the mobile device via server-assisted side-tuning. To reduce communication cost, Eco-MobiLLM develops an activation shortcut that transmits only the tokens involved in the loss calculation instead of full activation matrices to guide the side network tuning. Besides, to improve computing efficiency and further accelerate FT convergence, Eco-MobiLLM introduces a novel two-stage training paradigm, which allows the server to reuse historical activations and saves the mobile device from repeatedly computing forward passes for the recurring data samples. Extensive experimental results demonstrate Eco-MobiLLM's superiority.

VLALagBench: Understanding When and Why VLA Inference Latency Matters

Qi Wen, Borui Xu, Hussein Amro, Hongshi Tan, Hanmin Lin, Chaoyi Ruan, Shanghao Liu, Gang Yang 等 14 位作者

Vision-language-action (VLA) models offer a promising path toward general-purpose robot manipulation. While inference latency can affect task success in a constantly evolving physical world, the relationship between latency and task success rate remains poorly understood. In this paper, we introduce VLALagBench, a comprehensive benchmark for studying VLA inference latency sensitivity across task types, object speeds, execution modes (synchronous and asynchronous), and VLA policies. Using VLALagBench, we find that even a modest inference latency of 100 ms can nearly halve task success on moving targets, with sensitivity varying substantially across tasks and policies. These differences reflect task-specific requirements for precision and continuous motion. By overlapping inference with action execution, asynchronous execution can recover some of the lost success at the cost of more frequent inference requests. Building on these findings, we develop an empirical model that predicts task success from limited calibration data, achieving root-mean-square prediction errors of only 5.7-7.8% across various VLA policies. Given an inference system's latency and per-robot throughput, these predictions guide the selection of system-specific VLA algorithm configurations to maximize task success. We believe VLALagBench and these findings provide a solid foundation for future robotics algorithm-system co-design.

ViSSFlow: Unifying Video-Conditioned Sound and Speech Generation via Joint Learning

Xin Cheng, Yuyue Wang, Xihua Wang, Yihan Wu, Kaisi Guan, Yijing Chen, Peng Zhang, Xiaojiang Liu 等 10 位作者

Video-conditioned audio generation, including Video-to-Sound (V2S) and Visual Text-to-Speech (VisualTTS), has traditionally been studied as two separate tasks despite their shared objective of generating audio conditioned on visual content. Existing methods rely on task-specific architectures and training paradigms, while the possibility of a unified generative framework remains largely unexplored due to heterogeneous conditioning signals and limited joint training data. In this paper, we propose ViSSFlow, a unified flow-matching framework for both V2S and VisualTTS. To effectively integrate diverse conditioning modalities within a Diffusion Transformer (DiT), we introduce a disentangled condition aggregation mechanism that exploits the complementary roles of attention layers, using cross-attention to model semantic conditions and self-attention to capture temporally dense visual cues. Furthermore, contrary to the common assumption that joint optimization of V2S and VisualTTS causes task interference, we show that a single model can be trained end-to-end without sacrificing task-specific performance. To address the scarcity of paired training data covering both sound and speech generation, we further propose a simple yet effective feature-level data synthesis strategy that enables robust joint learning. Extensive experiments on V2S, VisualTTS, and joint generation benchmarks demonstrate that ViSSFlow consistently outperforms state-of-the-art task-specific baselines while providing a unified solution for video-conditioned audio generation. Code and demos are provided in Supplementary Material.

Reducing Confirmation Bias on Controversial Issues through LLM-Generated Multi-Persona Debates

Li Shi, Houjiang Liu, Yian Wong, Utkarsh Mujumdar, Dan Zhang, Jacek Gwizdka, Matthew Lease

Multi-persona debate systems powered by large language models (LLMs) show promise in reducing confirmation bias; however, empirical evidence remains limited. Through a within-subjects experiment, we compared an LLM-generated multi-persona debate system with an opposing-stances retrieval system. We evaluated system effectiveness in mitigating confirmation bias over 312 study trials across 8 controversial topics, using behavioral measures (changes in eye-fixation patterns) and attitudinal measures (shifts between pre/post-intervention beliefs), with topic familiarity and cognitive tendencies as moderators. Our results show that: (i) participants allocated more than half of their visual attention to attitude-inconsistent content in both systems, with no significant between-system differences; (ii) the debate system showed a suggestive but statistically non-significant buffering pattern among participants with stronger cognitive tendencies, and topic familiarity did not significantly moderate its effect on visual attention; and (iii) reading effort and perceived argument quality influenced participants' engagement with attitude-inconsistent content. These findings suggest that multi-persona debate systems can support engagement with diverse viewpoints, while their comparative advantage over opposing-stances retrieval was not established; individual cognitive tendencies remained an important predictor of visual attention. We provide further implications for designing multi-persona debates to better mitigate confirmation bias, focusing on balancing facts and persuasion and on deciding when to explore diverse viewpoints versus offer concrete solutions.

Learning a Motion Manifold to Constrain Ambiguity in Unsupervised 4D Medical Image Interpolation

Haojin Li, Huazhu Fu, Heng Li, Jiang Liu

Unsupervised 4D medical image interpolation reconstructs intermediate anatomical states from temporally sparse observations without intermediate supervision. Distinct motion fields may attain comparable endpoint agreement while producing different intermediate anatomy, giving rise to motion ambiguity. This ambiguity is difficult to constrain when many independently adjustable motion variables must be estimated from the observed endpoints. We develop a framework that learns a motion manifold to restrict candidate motion fields while retaining sample-specific variation. Cross-Sample Spectral Basis Learning extracts recurring motion structure from endpoint-derived dense estimates and encodes it in a shared spectral basis. Sample-Conditioned Cayley Basis Reorientation uses predicted motion coordinates to rotate the effective motion directions for each endpoint pair without increasing the number of independent coordinates. Their composition defines a nonlinear family of complete velocity fields across endpoint pairs, accommodating anatomical and motion-state differences within a restricted representation. Integrating each predicted field supports bidirectional reconstruction at arbitrary intermediate times. Theoretical analysis establishes sufficient conditions under which endpoint observations distinguish nearby motions within the learned family. Experiments on ACDC and 4D-Lung demonstrate state-of-the-art performance among the evaluated methods trained without intermediate volumes and competitive results against methods using intermediate supervision.

SemantiScene-Edit: Expert-Synthesized Supervision and Dual-Path Source Conditioning for Instruction-Based Video Editing

Xinyu Chen, Song Wu, Dingbao Shao, Jiahang Li, Jiang Lin, Yuhang Liu, Duo Li, Jiaxin Hu 等 15 位作者

Instruction-guided video editing requires executing a requested change while preserving the source video's appearance and temporal structure. We present SemantiScene-Edit, a video editor that couples a multimodal encoder with a pretrained video diffusion transformer. The encoder jointly processes source frames and the editing instruction, and learnable queries convey their semantic context to the generator through a trainable connector and cross-attention. A complementary visual pathway concatenates source-video latents with noisy target latents before patch embedding, supplying dense spatial and temporal information for content preservation. We train the model with flow matching and a three-stage image--video curriculum comprising semantic alignment, joint adaptation, and high-resolution refinement. To support training, we construct over 1.2 million instruction-conditioned video-editing records covering object addition, removal, replacement, and attribute modification. We also construct a 100-case benchmark for evaluating instruction execution, source preservation, temporal consistency, and visual quality. Comparative experiments show that SemantiScene-Edit effectively follows editing instructions while retaining source content. At inference, the model requires only a source video and a natural-language instruction.

Youtu-Parsing-Omni: One Encoder, One Schema, All Modalities

Yunhang Shen, Zhangquan Chen, Xiaotian Li, Zhongpeng Cai, Qing Zhou, Zekai Zhang, Kun Zhang, Zezhong Wu 等 30 位作者

We present Youtu-Parsing-Omni, an omni-modal parser that converts documents, images, audio, and video into structured records grounded in space and time, providing a perception layer for agents that read, locate, and cite evidence across modalities. Its design rests on one encoder for every modality and one schema for every task. Youtu-Omni-Encoder, initialized from a pre-trained language model to strengthen text reading, encodes all modalities with shared weights in a unified space-time coordinate system, and a few fusion layers let video frames attend to concurrent audio, bringing cross-modal fusion and temporal alignment into perception itself. OmniSchema unifies the outputs of all ten parsing tasks, allowing a single self-evolving post-training procedure, OmniSchema-Aware On-Policy Distillation (OSAD), to provide a shared token-role-based objective across tasks. In each round, the model is trained on its own rollouts against token-level targets from a reference-conditioned copy of itself, which is then refreshed with the trained weights, so that the parser and its supervision co-evolve. With a single 5 B-parameter checkpoint, Youtu-Parsing-Omni achieves state-of-the-art performance on OmniDocBench v1.6 (96.96 Overall) and leads all open-weight models on OmniParsingBench (75.08 Avg.), with its advantage concentrated on audio and video. It also achieves the best overall chart-parsing score (95.02) and the highest exact chemical-fingerprint agreement among compared systems, and matches a dedicated optical-music model in character-level transcription of typeset sheet music while staying far ahead of general-purpose systems. Code and model weights are publicly available.

RouteDRAG: Learning to Route and Control Agentic Execution for Multimodal Document RAG

Zekai Chen, Hao Zhu, Yu Liu, Xunkai Li, Zejian Kang, Rui Qian, Quanjiang Li, Rong-Hua Li

Web-based applications increasingly rely on understanding long multimodal documents, where answering questions often requires combining information across pages, tables, and figures. Agentic retrieval-augmented generation addresses these tasks through iterative retrieval and reasoning. However, Agentic execution is not always necessary, introducing additional computation and potentially incorrect answers. Our empirical analysis reveals that Agentic execution provides query-dependent benefits, while additional operations may improve, preserve, or degrade answer accuracy. These findings motivate controlling both Agent invocation and subsequent execution. To address these challenges, we propose RouteDRAG, a learning-based framework comprising four components. Unified Document Index organizes multimodal content into a graph-backed index and derives query representations from initial retrieval. Adaptive Path Routing preserves exact answering and predicts the relative benefit of Agent over shorter execution paths. Dynamic Agent Execution maintains an evolving workspace and refines Planner proposals to control tool use and termination. Sequential Policy Learning first trains operation control from observed outcomes and then trains path routing using the resulting Agent's performance. Across two benchmarks, RouteDRAG achieves an average accuracy improvement of 3.47 percentage points over shorter-path-only execution while assigning only 79.3% of queries to Agent. Notably, it also surpasses uniform Agent execution on both benchmarks while requiring fewer answering calls. Our code is now available at https://github.com/Ereshkigal1/RouteDRAG.

Know Your Place: Diagnosing Implicit Social Adaptation Failures in Chinese Large Language Models

Yu Tian, Jie Xing, Ziming Li, Jiang Li, Zehua Duo, Tian Lan, Xu Liu, Guanglai Gao Inner Mongolia University 等 9 位作者

As large language models (LLMs) are increasingly deployed in dialogue systems and interactive agents, their social adaptation during natural interaction has drawn growing attention. While prior work shows strong social regulation under explicit role or style instructions, it remains unclear whether LLMs can spontaneously perceive and respond to implicit social differences without explicit prompts. Focusing on high-context Chinese interactions, we identify a robust phenomenon termed Social Agnosia, where LLMs fail to adequately perceive and accommodate implicit social power, affective arousal, and epistemic status during natural interaction. To diagnose this behavior, we propose C-ISA, a framework grounded in Communication Accommodation Theory that decomposes social adaptation into three approximately orthogonal dimensions, and conduct controlled comparisons across multiple Chinese LLMs under implicit and explicit conditions. Results show that while models substantially adjust linguistic strategies under explicit conditioning, they exhibit socially insensitive and homogenized responses in natural interaction, revealing a structural gap between spontaneous behavior and conditioned capability. The C-ISA dataset is publicly available at https://github.com/ty373/C-ISA.

Compiling Activation Steering into Weights via Null-Space Constraints for Stealthy Backdoors

Rui Yin Zhejiang University, Tianxu Han, Naen Xu Zhejiang University, Changjiang Li Palo Alto Networks, Ping He Zhejiang University, Chunyi Zhou, Jun Wang OPPO Research Institute, Zhihui Fu Guangdong OPPO Mobile Telecommunications Corp.,Ltd. 等 11 位作者

Safety-aligned large language models (LLMs) are increasingly deployed in real-world pipelines, yet this deployment also enlarges the supply-chain attack surface: adversaries can distribute backdoored checkpoints that behave normally under standard evaluation but jailbreak when a hidden trigger is present. Recent post-hoc weight-editing methods offer an efficient approach to injecting such backdoors by directly modifying model weights to map a trigger to an attacker-specified response. However, existing methods typically optimize a token-level mapping that forces an affirmative prefix (e.g., “Sure”), which does not guarantee sustained harmful output—the model may begin with apparent agreement yet revert to safety-aligned refusal within a few decoding steps. We address this reliability gap by shifting the backdoor objective from surface tokens to internal representations. We extract a steering vector that captures the difference between compliant and refusal behaviors, and compile it into a persistent weight modification that activates only when the trigger is present. To preserve stealthiness and benign utility, we impose a null-space constraint so that the injected edit remains dormant on clean inputs. The method is efficient, requiring only a small set of examples and admitting a closed-form solution. Across multiple safety-aligned LLMs and jailbreak benchmarks, our method achieves high triggered attack success while maintaining non-triggered safety and general utility.

From Regulatory Approvals to Patents: Cross-Domain Linking for Cardiovascular Device Traceability

Qingqing Yang The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and Zhengzhou University, Haijiang Liu, Moyan Li

Linking FDA-approved medical devices to their underlying United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) patents enables critical applications such as recall root-cause analysis, M&A-driven IP discovery, and technology trajectory mapping. However, this cross-domain entity linking task remains unexplored due to severe semantic gaps: FDA documents focus on clinical outcomes, while patents describe technical mechanisms, yielding minimal lexical overlap. We formalize medical device-patent linking as a challenging cross-domain entity linking problem characterized by label scarcity and domain shifts. Using cardiovascular devices as a high-impact, representative domain featuring diverse technologies, high recall rates, and abundant disclosures, we construct a benchmark with 434 devices, 698K patents, and 585 high-fidelity expert-verified pairs. To address these challenges, we propose Bridge-MedDevKG, a coarse-to-fine framework that integrates (1) MedDevOnto, a domain-specific ontology that anchors device concepts via three-tier UMLS normalization; (2) Multi-signal candidate generation fusing company affiliation, semantic similarity, and ontology-weighted entity overlap; and (3) Heterogeneous reranking with multi-signal scoring and XGBoost classification on hard negatives. Our approach achieves a conservative lower-bound recall of 91.6% on the gold standard with 50.9% noise reduction, substantially outperforming LLM baselines under comparable evaluation. The resulting MedDevKG provides 6.8M high-confidence links, laying a scalable foundation for regulatory-IP integration across medical specialties.

Think How to Think: Mitigating Overthinking with Autonomous Difficulty Cognition in Large Reasoning Models

Yongjiang Liu, Haoxi Li The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Xiaosong Ma Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Jie Zhang Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Song Guo Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology

Recent Large Reasoning Models (LRMs) excel at complex reasoning tasks but often suffer from overthinking, generating overly long and redundant reasoning trajectories. To explore its essence, our empirical analysis reveals that LRMs are primarily limited to recognizing task properties (i.e., difficulty levels) like humans before solving the problem, leading to a one-size-fits-all reasoning strategy. This observation motivates a fundamental question: Can we explicitly bootstrap such ability to alleviate overthinking in LRMs? To this end, we propose Think-How-to-Think (TH2T), a novel two-stage fine-tuning strategy that progressively inspires LRMs’ difficulty cognition and redundancy cognition of LRMs. Specifically, we first inject Difficulty Dypnosis into output prefixes as cues for global, prospective reasoning strategy selection, stimulating the model’s sharper sensitivity to task complexity and adaptive control of reasoning depth. Then, we incorporate Redundancy Hypnosis into in-progress reasoning steps, which serve as local, retrospective signals for behavior correction by identifying and eliminating superfluous reasoning detours. Experiments across 7B/14B/32B models demonstrate that TH2T significantly reduces inference costs by over 70% on easy tasks and 40% on complex ones without compromising performance. The resultant models exhibit a nascent ability for difficulty-aware reasoning, effectively mitigating behaviors like excessive reflection and looping, thereby paving the way for more cognitively efficient LRMs.

CEDAR: A Chinese Evaluation Dataset for Computational Argumentation

Tian Lan, Jiang Li, Rong Yan Inner Mongolia University, Feilong Bao, Weihua Wang Inner Mongolia University, Guanglai Gao Inner Mongolia University, Xiangdong Su Inner Mongolia University

Computational argumentation has received increasing attention in recent years. However, existing debate datasets neglect some important labels for argument mining, generation, and evaluation. Meanwhile, the lack of comprehensively annotated Chinese oral debate datasets hinders progress in this field. To address these gaps, we introduce a comprehensive Chinese Evaluation Dataset for Computational Argumentation, named CEDAR. Compared to previous datasets, CEDAR includes the essential labels of computational argumentation (claim, stance, evidence) and five additional crucial labels: rhetorical figures, debater roles, modal words, utterance time, and debate results. Moreover, it offers complete transcripts of each debate, including speeches from the Pro and Con sides. Thus, the proposed CEDAR not only supports common argument mining and generation tasks, but also provides resources for rhetorical figure detection, argument quality evaluation, and debate result prediction. This dataset covers 600 debates about 318 topics from Chinese debate competitions. Besides providing a dataset for research, we conduct experiments on common computational argument tasks and a novel task (rhetorical figure detection), in which we also evaluate LLMs. The experimental results highlight the challenging nature of the dataset. Our corpus is available at https://github.com/VelikayaScarlet/CEDAR.

Who Wrote This Line? Evaluating the Detection of LLM-Generated Classical Chinese Poetry

Jiang Li, Tian Lan, Shanshan Wang, Dongxing Zhang, Dianqing Lin, Guanglai Gao Inner Mongolia University, Derek F. Wong University of Macau, Xiangdong Su Inner Mongolia University

The rapid development of large language models (LLMs) has extended text generation tasks into the literary domain. However, AI-generated literary creations has raised increasingly prominent issues of creative authenticity and ethics in literary world, making the detection of LLM-generated literary texts essential and urgent. While previous works have made significant progress in detecting AI-generated text, it has yet to address classical Chinese poetry. Due to the unique linguistic features of classical Chinese poetry, such as strict metrical regularity, a shared system of poetic imagery, and flexible syntax, distinguishing whether a poem is authored by AI presents a substantial challenge. To address these issues, we introduce ChangAn, a benchmark for detecting LLM-generated classical Chinese poetry that containing total 30,664 poems, 10,276 are human-written poems and 20,388 poems are generated by four popular LLMs. Based on ChangAn, we conducted a systematic evaluation of 12 AI detectors, investigating their performance variations across different text granularities and generation strategies. Our findings highlight the limitations of current Chinese text detectors, which fail to serve as reliable tools for detecting LLM-generated classical Chinese poetry. These results validate the effectiveness and necessity of our proposed ChangAn benchmark. Our dataset and code are available at https://github.com/VelikayaScarlet/ChangAn.

RSDA: Restoring Stale Data Affinity via Dynamic Renovation Strategy for Mitigating Data Scarcity

Yidan Liang, Jia Zhu Zhejiang Normal University, Weijie Shi Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hanghui Guo, Yue Cui Alibaba Group, Jiawei Shen Zhejiang Normal University, Guoqing Ma, Jingjiang Liu 等 12 位作者

High-quality data is the cornerstone of advancing large language models. However, the field currently faces a critical dilemma: the supply of premium data is nearing depletion, while vast stale corpora remain underutilized. Our empirical analysis reveals that training models on such data directly often leads to performance degradation. We attribute this phenomenon to the data affinity gap, a misalignment stemming from the model’s inability to effectively comprehend the data or inherent quality defects. To bridge this gap, we propose Restoring Stale Data Affinity (RSDA) framework. First, utilizing our proposed potential entropy metric, RSDA quantifies the latent value of samples to effectively identify stale data with higher renovation potential. Subsequently, the framework employs a dynamic renovation strategy selection mechanism to determine the optimal component-level strategy for each instance, transforming low-affinity stale samples into high-quality training data. Comprehensive experimental results demonstrate that RSDA effectively enhances data affinity, achieving performance improvements using less than 10% of the data volume, thereby underscoring that the latent potential of stale corpora remains largely untapped. The code is available at https://github.com/wenfiii/RSDA.

Existing video summarization methods mainly compress content for gist browsing, but they often break the prerequisite logic in instructional videos and induce logical inversions (e.g., conclusions before premises). We formalize this problem as Structure-Pedagogical Reconstruction (SPR). SPR raises two challenges: (1) Structure Hallucination, where retrieved knowledge is topologically valid but not evidence-grounded by the blackboard; and (2) Logical Inversion, where soft prompt-level graph injection fails to enforce prerequisite order during decoding. To address these challenges, we propose Knowledge-Centric Video Reconstruction (KCVR), a Plan-then-Generate neuro-symbolic framework that decouples epistemic planning from content generation. KCVR prunes a Dual-Layer Epistemic Graph into a minimal video-supported plan, then realizes the plan with visually anchored attention and topology-constrained decoding. We additionally release EduStruct, a 10-discipline benchmark for SPR and structure-centric evaluation. Experiments show that KCVR outperforms strong end-to-end baselines on Knowledge Progression Consistency and Learning Objective Coverage. Puns are a common form of rhetorical wordplay that exploits polysemy and phonetic similarity to create humor. In multimodal puns, visual and textual elements synergize to ground the literal sense and evoke the figurative meaning simultaneously. Although Vision-Language Models (VLMs) are widely used in multimodal understanding and generation, their ability to understand puns has not been systematically studied due to a scarcity of rigorous benchmarks. To address this, we first propose a multimodal pun generation pipeline. We then introduce MultiPun, a dataset comprising diverse types of puns alongside adversarial non-pun distractors. Our evaluation reveals that most models struggle to distinguish genuine puns from these distractors. Moreover, we propose both prompt-level and model-level strategies to enhance pun comprehension, with an average improvement of 16.5% in F1 scores. Our findings provide valuable insights for developing future VLMs that master the subtleties of human-like humor via cross-modal reasoning.

Collaboration and information sharing empower Multi-Agent Systems (MAS) but also introduce a critical security risk known as Agent Cascading Injection (ACI). In such attacks, a compromised agent exploits inter-agent trust to propagate malicious instructions, causing cascading failures across the system. However, existing studies consider only limited attack strategies and simplified MAS settings, limiting their generalizability and comprehensive evaluation. To bridge this gap, we introduce ACIArena, a unified framework for evaluating the robustness of MAS. ACIArena offers systematic evaluation suites spanning multiple attack surfaces (i.e., external inputs, agent profiles, inter-agent messages) and attack objectives (i.e., instruction hijacking, task disruption, information exfiltration). Specifically, ACIArena establishes a unified specification that jointly supports MAS construction and attack–defense modules. It covers six widely used MAS implementations and provides a benchmark of 1,356 test cases for systematically evaluating MAS robustness. Our benchmarking results show that evaluating MAS robustness solely through topology is insufficient; robust MAS require deliberate role design and controlled interaction patterns. Moreover, defenses developed in simplified environments often fail to transfer to real-world settings; narrowly scoped defenses may even introduce new vulnerabilities. ACIArena aims to provide a solid foundation for advancing deeper exploration of MAS design principles.

Recent large language models (LLMs) perform strongly on mathematical benchmarks yet often misapply lemmas, importing conclusions without validating assumptions. We formalize lemma-judging as a structured prediction task: given a statement and a candidate lemma, the model must output a precondition check and a conclusion-utility check, from which a usefulness decision is derived. We present RULES, which encodes this specification via a two-section output and trains with reinforcement learning plus section-aware loss masking to assign penalty to the section responsible for errors. Training and evaluation draw on diverse natural-language and formal proof corpora; robustness is assessed with a held-out perturbation suite; and end-to-end evaluation spans competition-style, perturbation-aligned, and theorem-based problems across various LLMs. Results show consistent in-domain gains over both a vanilla model and a single-label RL baseline, larger improvements on applicability-breaking perturbations, and parity or modest gains on end-to-end tasks; ablations indicate that the two-section outputs and section-aware reinforcement are both necessary for robustness.
