RDGSplat: Render-Dedicated Geometry for Novel View Synthesis

Zhijie Zheng, Xinhao Xiang, Jiawei Zhang

原文摘要

Recent 3D foundation models extend to novel view synthesis by carrying a Gaussian head on the representation they already use for reconstruction. However, their rendering quality lags far behind their reconstruction accuracy, because the renderer reads a geometry and a representation that are both optimized for metric reconstruction. Prior methods alleviate this by updating the backbone weights, but they thereby sacrifice the metric predictions the model was built for. To this end, we propose RDGSplat, which decodes a geometry dedicated to rendering from a frozen 3D foundation model while keeping its metric predictions exact. In particular, we devise Render-Dedicated Geometry Decoding, which duplicates the pretrained decoders and optimizes the duplicates under photometric supervision alone. Then, a Target-Pose Conditioned Adapter is introduced to adapt the representation those decoders read towards rendering, conditioned on the predicted target pose. Extensive experiments show that RDGSplat improves novel view synthesis for three feed-forward models of two architectures on four benchmarks, with every pretrained weight frozen. On RE10K, it raises WM2.0 from 20.918 to 25.149dB by training 205.5M added parameters against a frozen 1.4B backbone, and leaves its predicted depth and pose unchanged.

ARMs: Adaptive Red-Teaming Agent against Multimodal Models with Plug-and-Play Attacks

Zhaorun Chen, Xun Liu, Mintong Kang, Jiawei Zhang, Minzhou Pan, Shuang Yang, Bo Li

原文摘要

As vision-language models (VLMs) gain prominence, their multimodal interfaces also introduce new safety vulnerabilities, making the safety evaluation challenging and critical. Existing red-teaming efforts are either restricted to a narrow set of adversarial patterns or depend heavily on manual engineering, lacking scalable exploration of emerging real-world VLM vulnerabilities. To bridge this gap, we propose ARMs, an adaptive red-teaming agent that systematically conducts comprehensive risk assessments for VLMs. Given a target harmful behavior or risk definition, ARMs automatically optimizes diverse red-teaming strategies with reasoning-enhanced multi-step orchestration, to effectively elicit harmful outputs from target VLMs. We propose 11 novel multimodal attack strategies, covering diverse adversarial patterns of VLMs (e.g., reasoning hijacking, contextual cloaking), and integrate 17 red-teaming algorithms into ARMs via model context protocol (MCP). To balance the diversity and effectiveness of the attack, we design a layered memory with an epsilon-greedy attack exploration algorithm. Extensive experiments on instance- and policy-based benchmarks show that ARMs achieves SOTA attack success rates, exceeding baselines by an average of 52.1% and surpassing 90% on Claude-4-Sonnet. We show that the diversity of red-teaming instances generated by ARMs is significantly higher, revealing emerging vulnerabilities in VLMs. Leveraging ARMs, we construct ARMs-Bench, a large-scale multimodal safety dataset comprising over 30K red-teaming instances spanning 51 diverse risk categories, grounded in both real-world multimodal threats and regulatory risks. Safety fine-tuning with ARMs-Bench substantially improves the robustness of VLMs while preserving their general utility, providing actionable guidance to improve multimodal safety alignment against emerging threats.

Benchmarking Fine-Grained Visual Reasoning for Remote Sensing in Urban Management

Jiawei Zhang, Rizhao Cai, Dayan Guan

原文摘要

Fine-grained visual reasoning is essential for remote sensing in urban management, yet remains underexplored in the evaluation of multimodal large language models (MLLMs). We introduce UMBench, a fine-grained urban remote sensing benchmark built from unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) images for multiple urban management tasks such as traffic monitoring, urban construction, environmental quality, and disaster warning. Evaluations on UMBench reveal that current MLLMs often rely on scene-level priors and overlook fine-grained visual evidence. To address this issue, we further propose a novel evidence-first chain-of-thought method that directs models to inspect fine-grained visual evidence in a training-free manner. Experiments show that our method can improve the performance of both open-source and commercial MLLMs on UMBench.

SAGE: Mitigating Long-Horizon Reasoning Biases via Topological Guidance

Xinyue Zeng, Jiawei Zhang, Yujun Yan, Dawei Zhou

原文摘要

Long-horizon reasoning remains a central challenge for large language models (LLMs) under sparse-reward regimes. We argue that this brittleness arises from two biases induced by complex reasoning spaces: an exploration bias, where models are drawn toward locally plausible but structurally unstable branches, and a compounding bias, where small local deviations accumulate across depth and suppress rare rewards. We introduce Symbolic Closure Analysis (SCA) as a theoretical lens characterizing how branching structures and sparse rewards induce these biases in long-horizon reasoning with local admissibility, and as a design principle for structural priors in less formal reasoning tasks. Motivated by this analysis, we propose SAGE (Structural Admissibility-Guided Exploration), a unified framework that injects structural guidance to alleviate exploration bias and compounding bias in long-horizon reasoning. SAGE combines two complementary structural guidance: algebraic sparsification, which projects locally admissible candidates onto operator-indexed algebraic subspaces to suppress spurious branching and mitigate exploration bias, and hyperbolic structural guidance, which embeds reasoning states into a negatively curved space to provide dense depth-wise signals and mitigate compounding bias. Across 12 benchmarks and 7 model families, SAGE outperforms competitive baselines. In particular, SAGE achieves up to an 8-fold improvement on the Andrews-Curtis problem, an open real-world long-horizon task. Code is available at: https://github.com/Susan571/SAGE-NeurIPS2026.

Free Draft-and-Verification: Toward Lossless Parallel Decoding for Diffusion Large Language Models

Shutong Wu, Jiawei Zhang

原文摘要

Diffusion Large Language Models (dLLMs) have emerged as a compelling paradigm for language modeling, offering the unique potential for highly efficient inference via multi-token parallel decoding. However, unlocking this potential remains challenging. High-quality generation typically defaults to one-token-per-step static decoding, while existing parallel algorithms rely on heuristic confidence thresholds, introducing a fragile trade-off between decoding efficiency and generation quality. To overcome this, we introduce Free Draft-and-Verification (FreeDave), a novel training-free and model-free fast decoding algorithm. FreeDave capitalizes on the inherent properties of dLLMs by treating future token predictions as ``free drafts'' and rigorously self-verifying them in subsequent forward passes. Theoretically, FreeDave searches for a shorter decoding path that is guaranteed to reproduce the exact sequence generated by static decoding, achieving algorithmically lossless acceleration. With a sufficiently large draft budget and a verification frontier that does not retreat, it can use the fewest possible model forward passes among feasible paths. Extensive evaluations on math reasoning and code generation benchmarks demonstrate that FreeDave can boost the number of generated tokens per model forward (TPF) by up to 5.48$\times$ and tokens per second (TPS) by up to 3.94$\times$, while robustly maintaining generation quality and avoiding the task-specific performance degradation faced by heuristic methods. Code is available at https://github.com/cychomatica/FreeDave.

PsyInterviewee: Informational Invariance and Relational Adaptivity in Mental Health Interview Simulation

Jiawei Zhang, Huachuan Qiu, Ruocheng Guo, Zijun Shi

原文摘要

LLM-based simulated interviewees support interviewer training and the evaluation of mental health interviewing systems. Existing studies have primarily focused on improving human-likeness through richer patient profiles and behavioral modeling. However, human-likeness alone does not establish their reliability. Reliable simulation requires preserving profile-grounded clinical facts (informational invariance) while adapting disclosure and interaction behavior to the interview (relational adaptivity). To this end, we introduce PsyInterviewee, which separates a protected truth channel from a dynamic interaction channel and verifies generated clinical claims against the profile. Specifically, asymmetric write permissions allow dialogue context to update disclosure and behavioral states without authorizing new clinical facts; these states guide what profile-supported information is revealed and how it is expressed. In an automated evaluation of interactions between LLM-based interviewers and interviewees, PsyInterviewee achieves higher scores than four representative baselines on most metrics across both axes, as assessed by two LLM judges. Ablations suggest that the two channels contribute to clinical grounding and response modulation, respectively.

Building an Atlas of Social Experiments to Link Studies, Reconcile Conflicts, and Bridge Gaps

Jiawei Zhang, Honglin Bao, Pengda Wang, Alex Yan, Xiao Liu, James A. Evans

原文摘要

Social and behavioral science runs thousands of experiments each year, yet their findings rarely accumulate into a coherent map of what is known, what conflicts, and what remains missing. We introduce EXATLAS, a framework for turning an archive of experiments into an atlas: a structured map in which studies link, conflict, or leave bridgeable gaps. Given a target study, EXATLAS searches for prior studies that are locally close in treatment and outcome space and asks whether their observed effects can be composed to predict the target effect. This yields three cases. If composition succeeds and agrees with the observed result, EXATLAS links the target to consistent prior evidence. If composition succeeds but disagrees, EXATLAS reconciles the conflict and proposes candidate moderators or higher-level theories that could explain it. If the composition fails, EXATLAS proposes bridge experiments to close the gap. We provide an error bound for composition under local smoothness of the treatment-effect surface. On held-out targets certified as locally supported, EXATLAS recovers the direction of the reported causal effect in 98% of cases across two experimental domains, with an average Spearman correlation of rho = 0.770. Human evaluations further suggest that its proposed bridge experiments are plausible and exhibit connectedness, and that its conflict explanations are useful for theory generation. These results suggest that the archive of social experiments contains more latent structure than current practice extracts, and that making this structure explicit can guide both future theory and future experimentation.

Dobb: Shard-Local Preconditioning in Block-Diagonal Eigenbases

Shi-Yuk Fong, Shuhua Yu, Jiawei Zhang

原文摘要

Training language models whose parameters and optimizer state exceed a single node's memory requires sharding these tensors across devices. Under tensor parallelism (TP) or fully sharded data parallelism (FSDP), matrix-aware optimizers such as Muon introduce communication to perform global matrix operations across shards. We propose Dobb (Distributed Optimizer with Block-diagonal Eigenbases), a matrix-aware optimizer designed to compute updates locally within parameter shards. Dobb approximates the input-activation second moment with diagonal blocks and tracks a complete basis within each block. It projects momentum into these bases, applies sign normalization to the coefficients, and reconstructs the update. When each block lies within one shard under TP or FSDP, Dobb applies its matrix update locally, requiring no communication beyond data-parallel synchronization of the activation second moments. We benchmark Dobb against Dion, a distributed matrix-aware optimizer designed to retain the benefits of orthonormalized updates while reducing communication. On GPT-2 XL (1.56B parameters), Dobb with 16 blocks reaches a validation loss of 2.476, compared with 2.511 for Dion at rank fraction 1/16. Under FSDP on 32 H100 GPUs, Dobb reduces the amortized optimizer-call time from 124.1 ms for Dion to 9.2 ms.

UniDG: Unified Defect Generation via Defect-Context Editing

Yuanting Fan, Jun Liu, Bin-Bin Gao, Xiaochen Chen, Yuhuan Lin, Zhewei Dai, Jiawei Zhan, Chengjie Wang

原文摘要

Generating realistic visual defects is crucial for alleviating the scarcity of abnormal samples in anomaly detection, yet existing methods often rely on category-specific few-shot adaptation and struggle to generalize across objects, defect types, and domains. This limitation stems in part from the lack of paired defect editing data and the fine-grained nature of defect appearance, where subtle variations in scale, texture, and morphology must be preserved while maintaining consistency with the target scene. To address this challenge, we introduce UDG, a dataset of 300K normal-abnormal-mask-caption quadruplets curated from diverse defect-related scenarios, and present UniDG, a unified defect generation model. UniDG formulates defect synthesis as Defect-Context Editing: it extracts reference defect context with adaptive cropping, organizes reference and target inputs in a structured diptych format, and fuses multimodal conditions through MM-DiT attention. We further develop a two-stage training strategy: Diversity-SFT learns diverse transferable defect priors from paired editing data, while optional Consistency-RFT can further improve reference adherence, local realism, and defect-category consistency. Without per-category fine-tuning or using MVTec-AD/VisA for training, UniDG outperforms prior few-shot anomaly generation and image insertion/editing baselines in both synthesis quality and downstream single- and multi-class anomaly detection/localization.

原文摘要

Although large reasoning models (LRMs) exhibit exceptional mathematical reasoning capabilities on clean inputs, their reasoning accuracy drops substantially in the presence of character-level noise such as typographical errors. Critically, their confidence estimates fail to reflect the corresponding decline in reasoning accuracy. While confidence calibration offers a principled solution, existing methods predominantly target clean inputs, leaving noisy scenarios largely unexplored. To address this gap, we propose DisCal (Distribution-aware Calibration), a confidence calibration framework for character-level noisy inputs. DisCal extracts uncertainty signals from both the empirical answer distribution and the model’s predictive distribution, and integrates them via a learned calibrator to produce well-calibrated confidence. Experiments across multiple mathematical reasoning benchmarks demonstrate that DisCal consistently outperforms existing calibration methods under noisy inputs, reducing Expected Calibration Error (ECE) by up to 39.21% and improving Area Under the Receiver Operating Characteristic Curve (AUROC) by up to 31.44%.
