The Unreported Variable:Collector Selectivity in Data Placement Evaluation

Nannan Zhao, Jiameng Zhang, Taoyu Zhong, Bo Wang, Hao Wang, Zhijie Huang, Shujie Han, Xiaonan Zhao 等 9 位作者

A solid-state drive cannot overwrite data in place, so it cleans full blocks by copying out still-valid data, costing speed and lifetime. Interfaces such as NVMe Flexible Data Placement (FDP) let the host label data by expected lifetime so data dying together is stored together, and published schemes report cutting these copies by 20--75%. Those studies rarely state which blocks the drive chooses to clean. Varying only this choice in simulation, we show it decides how much a label is worth: label value peaks when the drive searches moderately for blocks holding little valid data, falls when it always takes the block with the least, and turns negative when it ignores how much valid data blocks hold. This holds in 47 of 48 synthetic configurations, and one real mail-server trace shows the same shape at about half the magnitude. Priced as spare capacity, a two-class label is worth 65% more spare when each scheme runs at its best setting, but becomes a net loss at 20% label error, typical of learned classifiers. Labels stating which data die together keep most of their value at 16 FDP handles and gain as cleaning improves. Evaluations must report the drive's cleaning policy.

Raincheck: Deferred Multimodal Prefill for Efficient Multi-Turn MLLM Inference

Wenjie Huang, Jun Zhang, Hongyaoxing Gu, Haoyang Huang, Tianqi Xu, Xinyue Hao, Xinyi Hu, Xinle Du 等 13 位作者

Multi-turn conversations with multimodal large language models (MLLMs) reuse input context, but long multimodal inputs increase time to first token (TTFT). Query-aware hard pruning reduces prefill tokens but permanently excludes information that later questions may require. We propose Raincheck, a framework for deferred multimodal prefill that decouples initial token selection from later information availability. An existing pruning method selects tokens for initial prefill; Raincheck preserves and progressively prefills unselected tokens in source order using unused compute capacity during decode. Unfinished prefill continues after answer return during available scheduling gaps. Attention visibility control and affine state mapping enable context updates after generation begins in full-attention and hybrid recurrent models. Prefill-decode fusion reduces repeated weight reads. We evaluate Qwen3-VL-8B and Qwen3.5-9B with 30% initial multimodal-token retention. Across both models and four pruning methods, Raincheck recovers on average 77.7% and 60.4% of the quality lost to matched hard pruning on MultiVerse and ConvBench, respectively. On MultiVerse, the SGLang implementation reduces mean first-turn TTFT by up to 24.1% relative to full prefill, with less than 0.5% increase in mean time per output token (TPOT).

FlagRot: Selective Rotation for Low-Bit KV Caches

Kunming Shao, Xijie Huang, Jierun Chen, Jiaqi Shao, Yanli Wang, Jiangnan Yu, Qiwei Li, Wei Zhang 等 10 位作者

Long-context inference is bound by the KV cache, which 2-bit codes could shrink about sixfold if their error stays in check. The usual remedy rotates keys before quantizing, assuming rotation always helps. However, we observe that it does not: rotation flattens a spiky piece of a key but can give a flat one a new peak, and both coexist within one key. We therefore propose FlagRot, which stores each 32-channel piece rotated or as is, whichever has the smaller calibrated attention error, and rotates the query instead when reading. We further show that how often to decide follows the quantization axis: per-channel caches such as KIVI need one decision per head, at no write cost, while per-token caches decide per key, with the choice stored in existing sign bits. At 2.5 bits per value, FlagRot lowers the twelve-model KL divergence of KIVI from 18.7 to 12.4 x 10^-3, below RotateKV on 9 of 12 models. Served as a vLLM plugin, it raises RULER at 128k tokens by +2.9 points and the LongBench v1 mean by +0.4 to +1.9 points on the three of four models where 2-bit KIVI loses accuracy. It also lowers the error of 4-bit integer and FP4 caches.

ProteoCraft: Protein Design as Proposal-Verification Search

Fang Wu, Hongbin Lin, Bingchen Duan, Yuchen Wang, Li Erran Li, Yanjie Huang, Mingxuan Cao, Yijun Ma 等 27 位作者

Protein-protein interactions underpin nearly all biological processes. Yet, designing proteins with desired interactions remains challenging due to the structural complexity governing molecular recognition. This study views protein design as a search optimization problem over a combinatorial sequence space under expensive structural evaluation. Toward this goal, we introduce a novel tree-based search framework, ProteoCraft, that employs approximate structural gradients from diffusion-based structure predictors as effective proposal policies to specify where the search should explore. Complete no-gradient inference of folding models separately assigns values to the resulting sequences, determining what is good. ProteoCraft allocates this verification budget through a coarse-to-fine paradigm: multi-site edits first explore distinct sequence basins, then verified promising states undergo strict single-site refinement. Across fourteen de novo binder-design settings spanning eight target proteins, five immune-relevant TCR-facing targets, and four localized CDR redesign tasks, ProteoCraft improves design quality and high-confidence yield. These improvements persist under independent AF2-IG and Rosetta-based interface evaluation. Prospective experimental validation further yielded an 82.9% binding hit rate for PD-L1 miniproteins, with a best measured KD of 0.879 nM, and confirmed binding of designed IFNAR2 VHH. Our code is available at https://github.com/smiles724/ProteoCraft_v1.

TurboWAM: Learning What Matters for Fast World Action Models

Guile Wu, Shuangzhi Li, Xingxin Chen, Chengjie Huang, Sam Hosseini, Tongtong Cao, Yingxue Zhang, Dongfeng Bai

World action models have demonstrated promising performance in robot policy learning, yet their high inference latency remains a critical bottleneck for real-world deployment. Recent approaches have sought to improve inference efficiency by eliminating test-time future-frame imagination or accelerating action prediction. However, aggregating representations from all video world model layers can introduce redundant computation, while standard backpropagation may distribute action-supervision gradients unevenly across layers, limiting the effectiveness of world representation learning. In this work, we propose TurboWAM, a fast world action model that learns to efficiently aggregate and optimize world representations for action prediction. Specifically, TurboWAM introduces an efficient world representation aggregation mechanism that restricts aggregation to a bounded range of relevant world model layers identified through layer relevance analysis. Within this bounded range, TurboWAM estimates aggregation weights for different world model layers based on the current action denoising state and combines them with learnable layer-wise weights to fuse world representations. Moreover, TurboWAM employs a world model gradient modulation mechanism that decomposes action-supervision gradients into a layer-shared component and layer-specific residual components, enabling more balanced gradient propagation across world model layers. This mechanism operates exclusively during training and introduces no additional inference computation. Together, these designs enable more efficient world representation learning and low-latency action prediction. Extensive experiments on multiple robot manipulation benchmarks and real-world manipulation tasks show that TurboWAM achieves low inference latency while maintaining competitive task success rates compared with state-of-the-art methods.

SpecOPD: Branch-Parallel On-Policy Distillation for Speculative Decoding

Tianyu Liu, Jun Zhang, Wenjie Huang, Yuhao Shen, Tianqi Xu, Xinyue Hao, Hongyaoxing Gu, Xuyang Liu 等 15 位作者

Speculative decoding (SD) accelerates large language model inference by reducing the sequential cost of token-by-token generation. Advanced SD methods reduce proposal cost with parallel drafters that predict entire blocks in one forward pass, but overall speedup still depends on acceptance length. On-policy distillation (OPD) can push well-trained drafters beyond acceptance-length plateaus, yet conventional pipelines collect supervision through sequential draft-and-verify rollouts. Our key insight is that on-policy supervision need not inherit these dependencies: a draft block can be supervised using only its reference prefix and draft-sampled history. We propose SpecOPD, a branch-parallel OPD framework that parallelizes draft sampling and target supervision across independent branches drawn from the evolving drafter policy at reference anchors. We pack these branches into proposal trees to share target-prefix computation, using tree masks for full attention, branch-consistent indexer groups for sparse attention, and indexed state replay for linear attention to preserve each branch's history. We train the drafter with an E2E-TV surrogate that directly targets acceptance length. Our study spans 8B full-attention (GQA), 27B full-linear (GQA--GDN), and 125B sparse-linear (QSA--GDN) targets, three parallel draft architectures (DFlash, DSpark, and DFlash V2), and four task domains (dialogue, coding, mathematics, and agentic). SpecOPD achieves up to 41.45% higher mean acceptance length, $16.09\times$ supervised-token throughput over sequential-rollout OPD under native configurations, and up to $3.56\times$ generation speedup over autoregressive decoding.

OmniOPD: Stable On-Policy Distillation for Joint Audio-Video Generation

Zihao Fan, Xin Lu, Jie Huang, Hexin Zhang, Xueyang Fu, Zheng-Jun Zha

Reinforcement learning (RL) elevates joint audio-video generation, but optimizing heterogeneous, modality-specific audio and video rewards often introduces cross-modal interference. On-policy distillation (OPD) alleviates this issue by transferring the capabilities of specialized audio and video RL teachers into a single student model. However, a significant imbalance in cross-modal token counts leaves audio with sparse supervision, causing unstable distillation. We observe that naively increasing the audio loss weight fails to solve this problem since audio learning relies heavily on visual context, indicating richer visual cues are crucial to offset sparse audio signals. To address this, we propose OmniOPD, a modality-wise on-policy distillation framework designed for balanced and stable audio-video generation. First, we construct privileged visual information using asymmetric noise scheduling, allowing the audio teacher to generate more informative targets from cleaner video context. Second, we introduce grouped multi-noise sampling to expand audio supervision coverage and stabilize training. Third, we introduce timestep-wise importance weighting based on teacher-student transition divergence, preserving reliable supervision while down-weighting unreliable learning signals, to stabilize fluctuations in audio learning. Evaluated on JavisBench and VBench demonstrate OmniOPD preserves audio quality while significantly enhancing video generation, achieving effective joint distillation.

GistRank: Gist-Compressed Listwise Ranking with Large Language Models

Guo Chen, Wenhan Liu, Reed Li, Qianwen Ma, Yu Lu, Haibo Shi, Bingbing Xu, Junjie Huang

Large language models (LLMs) have become a powerful tool for listwise relevance ranking, which can improve web search by comparing retrieved passages jointly. However, processing every candidate verbatim and generating a permutation autoregressively can make inference costly, every candidate must be serialized verbatim into the prompt and the input therefore grows linearly with both the number and the length of the passages. While sliding-window ranking handles context limits through repeated re-encoding of overlapping blocks, hard compression techniques sacrifice the fine-grained details required for accurate discriminative judgment. To better understand and mitigate this trade-off, we conduct a comprehensive study of soft compression for LLM-based listwise ranking. Our findings reveal that a vanilla gist representation is ill-suited to ranking for two reasons: strictly causal encoding weakens how thoroughly each gist token absorbs its passage, and the representation is never trained to expose the relative-preference structure that separates closely competing candidates. To this end, we propose GistRank, a three-stage training framework that equips a large language model with gist-compressed passage representations by learning faithful gist tokens under a semi-bidirectional attention scheme, instilling discriminative comparison through pairwise training, and adapting the model to the listwise objective. GistRank collapses each passage into only $K{=}4$ gist tokens, this gives 14$\times$ speedups over one-shot full-text ranking while reaching 59.17 average nDCG@10 over TREC DL19/20 and five BEIR subsets within 0.89 of the strongest full-context baseline. Overall, GistRank provides an effective means to enhance efficiency for searches in real-world environments.

MemSteer: Turning User Histories into Supervision for Agent Memory Optimization

Jie Huang, Cuiling Lan, Qize Yu, Xiulian Peng, Yan Lu

An effective agent memory system should adapt to a user's history and task requirements. Human-annotated supervision can guide this adaptation by providing feedback for evaluating and improving memory designs. Yet suitable labels are rarely available for new user histories, and manually constructing QA pairs and supporting evidence is costly. We introduce MemSteer, which turns unlabeled user histories into question-answer (QA) supervision with supporting evidence for memory-design optimization. MemSteer constructs an evidence-grounded answer plan that specifies how facts across related records jointly support a reference answer. The plan guides question generation, while source-grounded auditing and blind answer recovery check the resulting annotations. To study the utility of this supervision, we develop MemSteer-Opt, which combines QA-based design evaluation with evidence-guided failure diagnosis to revise memory store, retrieval, and context construction without updating model parameters. Experiments on ATM-Bench and RHELM show that this supervision is competitive with official-QA-guided optimization. Relative to Base-BM25, MemSteer-Opt improves ATM-Bench Question Score by 13.4 points and RHELM accuracy by 4.1 and 6.6 points without and with external data, respectively. The supervision also benefits two existing optimizers on ATM-Bench, while new-user experiments demonstrate continued design optimization using supervision generated from the target histories.

Fu-TCM: a multimodal large language model that learns traditional Chinese medicine diagnostic reasoning

Jiahang Xie, Tong Jin, Lingfei Wu, Yaping You, Jie Huang, Yuanchang Jin, Weikang Gong, Wei Cheng 等 12 位作者

Large language models (LLMs) are advancing in multimodal understanding and reasoning, accelerating medical model development. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) uses evidence from the four examinations to determine disease location and nature, differentiate syndromes and guide treatment. This diagnostic process constitutes a complete chain of reasoning. We present Fu-TCM, a multimodal TCM LLM trained on data retained after cleaning and filtering an initial collection of approximately 7.12 million examples derived from classical texts, textbooks, medical images, clinical cases and publicly available datasets. The model was further optimized using Bianzheng-Grounded Policy Optimization (BGPO), which explicitly targets syndrome differentiation through rewards for response format, intermediate TCM reasoning fields and final syndrome predictions. Fu-TCM-27B led all six benchmarks spanning TCM reasoning, text and vision, achieving a macro-average accuracy of 81.01% and surpassing the strongest reference model with complete results across all six benchmarks by 7.13 percentage points. Its largest margin was 11.90 points on Fu-bianzheng. Case-level analyses further showed a positive association between intermediate-field accuracy and final syndrome-selection accuracy in most evaluated models. These findings suggest that TCM syndrome differentiation may be computationally learnable and that structured reasoning supervision can improve performance across TCM tasks.

OmniBrain-0: A Unified Agentic Model for Embodied Intelligence

Xiaomi Embodied Intelligence Team, Yuechen Luo, Chong He, Fang Li, Shaoqing Xu, Jingkai Wang, Menglun Su, Jiaxin Liu 等 32 位作者

General-purpose embodied intelligence requires robots to coordinate diverse skills over long horizons, track task progress, and recover from failures. Specialist policies alone do not ensure task-level reliability, while powerful multimodal agents rely on costly reasoning and external experience that compact models struggle to reproduce. We introduce OmniBrain-0, a lightweight unified embodied agent that coordinates manipulation and navigation through a shared high-level decision model, integrating task understanding, planning, progress tracking, and feedback-driven recovery. Our progressive training framework combines embodied pretraining, domain-specialized agent distillation, and multi-teacher on-policy distillation (MOPD). It distills powerful teachers' interaction experience into manipulation and navigation experts, then consolidates their decision capabilities into OmniBrain-0. Unification therefore occurs within the learned decision model rather than only at the tool interface. We further introduce Rubric-Guided Recursive Self-Improvement (RSI), a data flywheel in which a Meta-Agent turns execution evidence into refined rubrics, step-level reminders, and verified trajectories for domain-expert updates before their reconsolidation into OmniBrain-0 through MOPD. We evaluate OmniBrain-0 on LIBERO-Pro, LIBERO-Plus, RoboCasa365, RoboTwin 2.0, and R2R-CE Val-Unseen, as well as multiple real-world manipulation tasks. OmniBrain-0 combines strong cross-domain task performance with substantially lower inference and execution overhead than its closed-source teacher, demonstrating efficient transfer and consolidation of embodied capabilities into a compact unified agent.

MicroAgent: Context-Augmented Multi-Agent Framework for Automatic Microservice Decomposition

Zishan Su, Junjie Huang, Shiwen Shan, Xingyan Chen, Hui Zeng, Yuxin Su, Yanlin Wang, Michael R. Lyu

The adoption of Microservice Architecture (MSA) has revolutionized software engineering by enhancing scalability, agility, and maintainability over traditional monolithic applications. As more developers transition their legacy systems to microservice-based architectures, effective microservice decomposition-partitioning monolithic applications into highly cohesive services-becomes vital. However, this decomposition task presents significant challenges. Manual approaches are time-consuming and labor-intensive. Existing automated methods often fail to capture the necessary semantic insights from complex applications, while naive applications of Large Language Models tend to overlook crucial contextual information and design principles, leading to suboptimal results. To address these challenges, we propose MicroAgent, a Context-Augmented Multi-Agent Framework for Microservice Decomposition. Our framework divides the decomposition process into five distinct subtasks and assigns each to a specialized agent. To enhance the effectiveness of each agent, we provide tailored, multi-granularity context that keeps its analysis focused and mitigates information overload. Furthermore, to ensure the decomposition adheres to established design principles, we integrate analytical tools that guide the agents' decision-making. Experimental evaluations on 10 Java Web applications demonstrate that MicroAgent achieves an average decomposition accuracy of 89.2%, outperforming the state-of-the-art method by 24.6%. We also conduct a case study to highlight the practical benefits of our design.

Cat-MoD: Accelerating Multimodal Alignment via Caption Token Guided Asymmetric Mixture-of-Depths

YiJie Huang, Xiaocui Yang Northeastern University, Shi Feng Northeastern University, China, Wen Zhang Northeastern University, Kaisong Song, Yifei Zhang, Daling Wang

Efficiently aligning visual features with Large Language Models (LLMs) remains a critical bottleneck in Multimodal LLMs. Existing query-based alignment modules (e.g., Q-Former) rely on randomly initialized queries, resulting in an inefficient cold start exploration process. Furthermore, they enforce uniform cross-attention across all layers, leading to computational redundancy. Our empirical analysis reveals that query tokens initialized with language priors can rapidly capture global semantics, leading to early representation convergence after only a few layers. In this paper, we propose Cat-MoD, a Caption token Guided Asymmetric Mixture-of-Depths framework. It incorporates a Hybrid Query Construction module where Guide Tokens initialized from coarse-grained linguistic priors rapidly anchor global semantic context, and randomly initialized Explorer Tokens remain active to capture fine-grained visual details. Exploiting this early convergence, we introduce an Asymmetric Mixture-of-Depths mechanism, where a similarity-aware router dynamically prunes redundant tokens from expensive cross-attention layers while preserving their context in self-attention. Experiments on multiple benchmarks demonstrate that Cat-MoD matches or surpasses baseline performance, while substantially reducing alignment FLOPs by approximately 37% during both training and inference, offering a highly efficient solution for multimodal alignment. Code: https://github.com/JasonOrange0726/Cat-MoD.

Dynamic Emotion and Personality Profiling for Multimodal Deception Detection

Li Zheng, Yanyi Luo, Hao Fei National University of Singapore and University of Oxford, Yuzhe Ding Wuhan University, Yujie Huang Wuhan University, Fei Li Wuhan University, Chong Teng Wuhan University, Donghong Ji Wuhan University

Deception detection is of great significance for ensuring information security and conducting public opinion analysis, with personality factors and emotion cues playing a critical role. However, existing methods lack sample-level dynamic annotations for emotions and personality. In this paper, we propose an innovative multi-model multi-prompt annotation scheme and a strict label quality evaluation standard, and establish a multimodal joint detection dataset DDEP for deception, emotion, and personality. Meanwhile, we propose Rel-DDEP, an adaptive reliability-weighted fusion framework. Our framework quantifies uncertainty by mapping modal features to a high-dimensional Gaussian distribution space. It then performs reliability-weighted fusion and incorporates an alignment module and a sorting constraint module to achieve joint detection of deception, emotion, and personality. Experimental results on the MDPE and DDEP datasets show that our Rel-DDEP significantly outperforms the existing state-of-the-art baseline models in three tasks. The F1 score of the deception detection increases by 2.53%, that of the emotion detection increases by 2.66%, and that of the personality detection increases by 9.30%. The experiments fully verify the necessity of annotating dynamic emotion and personality labels for each sample and the effectiveness of reliability-weighted fusion.

All Changes May Have Invariant Principles: Improving Ever-Shifting Harmful Meme Detection via Design Concept Reproduction

Ziyou Jiang Institute of Software Chinese Academy of Sciences, Mingyang Li Institute of Software Chinese Academy of Sciences, Junjie Wang Institute of Software, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Yuekai Huang, Jie Huang, Zhiyuan Chang, Zhaoyang Li, Qing Wang

Harmful memes are ever-shifting in the Internet communities, which are difficult to analyze due to their type-shifting and temporal-evolving nature. Although these memes are shifting, we find that different memes may share invariant principles, i.e., the underlying design concept of malicious users, which can help us analyze why these memes are harmful. In this paper, we propose RepMD, an ever-shifting harmful meme detection method based on the design concept reproduction. We first refer to the attack tree to define the Design Concept Graph (DCG), which describes steps that people may take to design a harmful meme. Then, we derive the DCG from historical memes with design step reproduction and graph pruning. Finally, we use DCG to guide the Multimodal Large Language Model (MLLM) to detect harmful memes. The evaluation results show that RepMD achieves the highest accuracy with 81.1% and has slight accuracy decreases when generalized to type-shifting and temporal-evolving memes. Human evaluation shows that RepMD can improve the efficiency of human discovery on harmful memes, with 15\sim30 seconds per meme.

SAGE: Synergistic Adaptive Gating of Experts for Hateful Video Detection

Jie Huang, Xin Liao, Junjie Wang Institute of Software, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Mingyang Li Institute of Software Chinese Academy of Sciences, Wenshuo Wang ISCAS, Ziyou Jiang Institute of Software Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shoubin Li, Qing Wang

With the rise of short-video platforms, hate speech has evolved from static text and memes into more covert and aggressive hateful video formats, profoundly impacting social dynamics and public sentiment. Existing detection methods typically rely on multimodal feature fusion, which blurs the distinct boundaries of modality-specific information. This leads to the feature dilution problem, where dominant benign modalities often overwhelm sparse, localized hateful cues. To address this, we propose SAGE (Synergistic Adaptive Gating of Experts), a novel framework that shifts the paradigm from blind feature mixing to decision-level arbitration. Mimicking human cognitive processes, SAGE instantiates disentangled experts to rigorously preserve modality-specific semantics, facilitates global expert deliberation for context-aware refinement, and convenes an instance-level tribunal to dynamically arbitrate the final verdict based on evidentiary salience. Extensive experiments on HateMM and MultiHateClip benchmarks demonstrate that SAGE significantly outperforms state-of-the-art methods, achieving accuracy gains of 6.37% to 21.23% and macro-F1 score gains of 6.77% to 28.01%.
