Unraveling the Efficacy of Neuron Coverage Criteria on Testing Large Language Models

Xiaoning Ren, Jiayang Song, Chongyang Liu, Jie Li, Lei Ma, Yinxing Xue

Neuron coverage criteria aim to assess test suite quality and guide test input generation, but their effectiveness for Transformer-based language models remains unclear. We evaluate six criteria, including four established and two recent criteria, across encoder-only, decoder-only, and encoder-decoder models. Our evaluation examines error-revealing capability, distribution diversity, sample fairness (category diversity), and guidance for test input generation. The results reveal uneven effectiveness. Erroneous samples provide only 0.32% additional coverage over noise samples, indicating limited sensitivity to adversarial errors. By contrast, coverage criteria effectively assess distribution diversity and sample fairness in 26 and 30 of 33 configurations, respectively. Incorporating neuron-wise coverage guidance into test input generation increases adversarial sample production by only 4.56%. These findings suggest that existing coverage criteria can serve as an antidote for assessing diversity but remain largely a placebo for revealing adversarial errors, particularly when used individually. Their practical value therefore depends on whether these limited benefits justify the computational overhead of testing large Transformer-based models. Our study highlights the need for more robust and efficient coverage criteria tailored to these models, with stronger error-revealing capability and greater value for test generation.

UniTele: Learning Device-Conditioned Degradations for Unified Smartphone Telephoto Super-Resolution

Yuchen Zhang, Aojie Li, Wei Cheng, Xianfang Zeng, Runxing Liu, haixin hao, Gang YU, Xiaoyun Yuan

Super-telephoto imaging on mobile phones suffers from complex, device-dependent degradations that are poorly captured by conventional handcrafted pipelines. Collecting large-scale aligned training pairs across different phones and diverse scenes, however, is both costly and difficult to scale. We therefore study whether device-specific degradations can be learned from only a small number of physical captures and transferred for training a unified super-resolution (SR) model. Our key idea is to factor degradation learning into two learnable components: one captures the device-specific imaging characteristics under well-resolved conditions, while the other captures the additional information loss and artifacts that arise in super-telephoto imaging. We build a paired benchmark across three phone brands (Huawei, Apple, and vivo) by photographing the same content at two display sizes and zoom settings. The larger displayed image is captured at the phone's maximum optical zoom setting, while the smaller image is photographed directly at the phone's highest native zoom setting through the phone's native imaging pipeline. The benchmark contains 519 training and 60 held-out pairs. We use the benchmark to learn device-specific degradation, then apply it to external images to synthesize thousands of additional pairs to train our UniTele SR model. Relative to the pretrained Qwen and FLUX backbones before adaptation, the full UniTele training recipe substantially improves paired restoration fidelity and perceptual similarity on the held-out benchmark and yields markedly more stable and visually faithful restorations.

AgentDecept: Benchmarking Deceptive Behavior in Tool-Using LLM Agents under Pressure

Yehan Zhang, Qianqi Yan, Hang Yin, Ching-Chen Kuo, Shan Jiang, Ming Ouyang, Yijie Liu, Xin Eric Wang

LLM agents increasingly carry out multi-turn tasks across everyday applications, yet users often see only the agent's report rather than the observations, API calls, and state changes behind it. Existing deception benchmarks have studied long-horizon interactions and tool-use settings, but whether agents faithfully report their actions across realistic, stateful application workflows remains underexplored. To address this gap, we introduce AgentDecept, an executable benchmark for evaluating behavioral deception under pressure. AgentDecept contains 477 pressure variants derived from 257 source tasks across six pressure sources, each paired with a pressure-free counterpart. Interventions enter through event messages, task context, application state, tool responses, and service quotas, spanning explicit events and implicit task or environment changes. Our evidence-grounded protocol evaluates full trajectories by relating user-facing claims to time-ordered observations and executed outcomes, distinguishing falsification, concealment, and equivocation from honest failure and disclosed limitations. The resulting behavioral labels also provide a setting for testing existing activation-based probes. AgentDecept enables controlled analysis of when multi-turn agents' reports diverge from execution in realistic application interactions.

Self-Consistency Geometry Injection for Multi-view Consistent Image Generation

Yupeng Xiao, Yankai Wu, Jianjie Luo, Jiajie Lin, Yi Yu, Zhenguo Yang

Recent diffusion models have achieved impressive progress in single image to multi-view generation by synthesizing consistent novel views efficiently. Existing methods usually explicitly or implicitly couple geometry inference and texture synthesis, making generation vulnerable to inaccurate geometry prediction. Although several geometry-guided methods have explored decoupling, they usually treat predicted geometry as a fixed condition and do not explicitly model whether the geometry is reliable. We therefore propose Reliability-Guided Multi-View Generation (RGMV), which comprises a parameter-free Self-Consistency Geometry Gate (SCG) and a Reliability-aware Geometry Injection (RGI) module. Specifically, a geometry proposal generator produces multiple geometry predictions for the same reference image and target viewpoints under different stochastic sampling configurations. SCG measures their spatial agreement to derive a reliability map, which RGI uses to modulate the injection strength of geometry-conditioned residuals in the RGB synthesis model. Moreover, RGMV can adapt to different geometry proposal generators. As a result, RGMV preserves stronger geometric guidance in stable regions while attenuating unreliable geometry cues before they propagate into multi-view RGB generation. Extensive experiments show that reliability-aware geometry injection improves the geometric quality of multi-view generation. Code: https://github.com/WISLab-GDUT/RGMV.

SparseTokenGS: Gaussian-based Sparse-View CBCT Reconstruction via Reusable Token Pool

Zihan Deng, Zhenzhen Gong, Yujie Liu, Jiaxin Gong, Dingkun Liu, Kexian Xie, Yixing Huang, Peng Jin 等 13 位作者

Sparse-view cone-beam computed tomography is widely used for fast, low-dose volumetric imaging and lesion localization in dentistry and image-guided interventions, but it introduces severe artifacts. Feed-forward Gaussian methods transfer the reconstruction cost to training and decode each coordinate from projection-aligned features and neighboring anchors. However, information from the whole scan is written only when the field is constructed and cannot be retrieved during coordinate decoding, leaving the volume inconsistent within the scan. This is a common limitation of such methods: once the field is fixed, decoding uses only local features and reconstruction quality drops substantially. We propose SparseTokenGS, a Gaussian-based method for sparse-view cone-beam computed tomography reconstruction via a reusable token pool. Anchor Token Fusion and Point-Token Attention query this shared pool at the anchors and at the query coordinates, respectively. The local Gaussian prior is retained, and the volume is reconstructed in one forward pass, without per-scan optimization or a projection-domain loss. On three public chest and dental datasets, SparseTokenGS achieves the highest reconstruction performance among the compared methods. On clinical dental scans, reconstruction from only six projections reaches 29.51 decibels in peak signal-to-noise ratio and a structural similarity of 0.842 against the full-view reference, and off-the-shelf tooth-and-pulp segmentation keeps these structures separable for root-canal localization. Experiments on volcanic rock and chicken show performance after same-object adaptation. A reusable token pool gives feed-forward reconstruction a mechanism that keeps scan-wide context available through decoding and can benefit future rapid clinical lesion localization and analysis. The code is available at: https://github.com/FrankDengAI/SparseTokenGS.

We introduce Nemotron 3.5 Super and Nemotron 3.5 Lightning, open and efficient Mixture-of-Experts Hybrid Mamba-Transformer models designed for reasoning, long-context understanding, and agentic workloads. Super is a 120B-parameter, 12B-active multimodal model, while Lightning is a smaller 30B-parameter, 3B-active text model; both designed for efficient deployment. Both models combine large-scale distillation, long-context training, and native speculative decoding, while Super further incorporates Indic continued pretraining and agentic software-engineering mid-training. We develop a comprehensive post-training pipeline spanning supervised fine-tuning and reinforcement learning (RLVR and RLHF), complemented in Super by specialized teacher training and multi- teacher on-policy distillation (MOPD). This transforms Super from a text-only base model into a multimodal agent capable of reasoning over text, images, video, and interactive tool environments. We further explore test-time scaling through parallel agent execution and self-verification. Across training and deployment, we jointly optimize capability and efficiency. Indic continued pretraining improves Indian-language benchmarks by up to 9.82 percentage points, while agentic mid-training strengthens software-engineering capabilities and robustness across agent harnesses. The post-trained Super model achieves 51.78% on SWE-bench Pro, surpassing Nemotron 3 Ultra despite using approximately 4.6x fewer active parameters. Post-training MTP boosting improves speculative- decoding acceptance length by up to 21.8% under probabilistic draft sampling, while NVFP4 quantization achieves 99.62% median accuracy recovery relative to BF16. Inference optimizations enable up to 4,856 output tokens/s/GPU on GB200 while sustaining at least 50 tokens/s/user.

FullFront: Benchmarking MLLMs Across the Full Front-End Engineering Workflow

Haoyu Sun, Huichen Will Wang, Jiawei Gu, Linjie Li, Yu Cheng

Front-end engineering involves a complex workflow where engineers conceptualize designs, translate them into code, and iteratively refine the implementation. While recent benchmarks primarily focus on converting visual designs to code, we present FullFront, a benchmark designed to evaluate Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) \textbf{across the full front-end development pipeline}. FullFront assesses three fundamental tasks that map directly to the front-end engineering pipeline: Webpage Design (conceptualization phase), Webpage Perception QA (comprehension of visual organization and elements), and Webpage Code Generation (implementation phase). Unlike existing benchmarks that use either scraped websites with bloated code or oversimplified LLM-generated HTML, FullFront employs a novel, two-stage process to transform real-world webpages into clean, standardized HTML while maintaining diverse visual designs and avoiding copyright issues. Extensive testing of state-of-the-art MLLMs reveals significant limitations in page perception, code generation (particularly for image handling and layout), and interaction implementation. Our results quantitatively demonstrate performance disparities across models and tasks, and highlight a substantial gap between current MLLM capabilities and human expert performance in front-end engineering. The FullFront benchmark and code are available in https://github.com/Mikivishy/FullFront.

RankFormer: Rethinking Time Series Transformers through Representation Capacity Analysis and Progressive Decoding

Peiwang Tang, Cheng HE, Xijie Liang, Defu Lian

Multivariate time series forecasting plays a critical role in Web and cyber-physical systems, where large-scale services and IoT infrastructures generate complex temporal data. Transformer-based models have achieved strong empirical performance in this domain, yet the principles governing the expressive capacity of their learned representations remain insufficiently understood. Moreover, many existing models rely on simplified decoding strategies, including channel-independent modeling and direct projection heads, which limit their ability to capture complex multivariate dynamics. To address these challenges, we propose RankFormer, a novel encoder-decoder architecture for multivariate time series forecasting. We establish a rank-based analysis framework to investigate how tokenization, embedding, and attention designs affect the representation capacity of time series Transformers. Our analysis reveals that patchification increases the potential representation capacity by aggregating multiple temporal observations into each token, while subsequent encoding operations determine how much of this capacity is realized. Guided by these insights, we develop a rank-enhancing encoder with Hourglass Attention to improve rank stability during information interaction. Furthermore, we introduce the Interactive Progressive Decoder (IPD), which improves future trajectory modeling through global-guided cross-channel interaction and progressive refinement. Extensive experiments on real-world long-term forecasting benchmarks demonstrate that RankFormer achieves competitive performance against state-of-the-art methods. Uncertainty-Guided Multimodal Consensus for Multimodal Sentiment Analysis

Guowei Zhong, Junjie Li, Huaiyu Zhu, Ruohong Huan, Yun Pan

Multimodal sentiment analysis (MSA) has made considerable progress in recent years. Existing MSA methods mainly learn shared multimodal representations or train unimodal predictors with a common multimodal label. However, assigning the shared label to every modality can obscure modality-specific sentiment, while direct fusion may overemphasize unreliable predictions when modalities disagree. To address these issues, we propose Uncertainty-Guided Multimodal Consensus (UMC), which first recovers continuous unimodal pseudo-labels and then forms a reliability-aware consensus across modalities. Our method consists of two key components: i) Continuous Prototype-Guided Label Recovery (CPLR), which combines heteroscedastic predictions with ordered sentiment prototypes and uses confidence and label conflict to refine continuous unimodal pseudo-labels, and ii) Reliability and Precision Consensus (RPC), which estimates sample-dependent modality reliability from predictive statistics and cross-modal disagreement and combines it with predictive precision through a closed-form consensus solver. Extensive experiments conducted on four publicly available MSA datasets demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of our proposed model.

BoxWorld: Let World Engines Control and Video Generators Render

Zike Wu, Ahmed Hatem, Chintan Trivedi, Wallace Michel Pinto Lira, Xuebin Qin, Lele Wang, Renjie Liao

We tackle the challenge of building real-time interactive video worlds with user-defined behaviors. Such worlds must track object states, apply interaction rules, and render the resulting consequences as users act. Yet existing end-to-end video world models typically learn interaction dynamics within the generator, making it difficult to specify object-level rules and reason about their consequences. In this work, we introduce BoxWorld, which separates interaction reasoning from generative rendering. Given user-specified rules, a coding agent creates a Box World Engine that determines interaction outcomes and exposes the resulting object states through a lightweight interface of layout boxes, persistent object attributes, and dynamic status variables, leaving appearance and physical effects to generative rendering. A Box-State Generative Renderer then renders this evolving state stream into video autoregressively, enabling online control over object motion, state switches, and conditional events. Rendering this state stream is non-trivial: the renderer must respond to object-level state updates in real time while remaining coherent with the generated history. To this end, we introduce a three-stage training strategy that learns object grounding from open-domain videos and state transitions from gameplay videos, both annotated automatically, and finally performs rollout distillation on self-generated histories. We further propose PairedStateBench, a paired benchmark for fine-grained interaction control. BoxWorld substantially outperforms end-to-end world models and remains competitive across multiple public benchmarks. Project page: https://boxworld-web.github.io.

A Deep Learning Framework for TTV Characterization: A Case Study of the Kepler-88 System

Chen Chen, Jiapeng Gao, Gongjie Li, Lingkai Kong, Molei Tao

Transit timing variation (TTV) provides rich information about the mass and orbital properties of exoplanets, which are often obtained by solving an inverse problem via Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC). In this paper, we design a new data-driven approach, which potentially can be applied to problems that are hard to traditional MCMC methods, such as the case with only one planet transiting. Specifically, we use a deep learning approach to predict the parameters of non-transit companion for the single transit system with transit information (i.e., TTV, and Transit Duration Variation (TDV)) as input. This approach is constructed using the Transformer-based architecture that can extract long-range interactions from TTV sequential data. We focus on two-planet systems based on Kepler-88 as a starting point, with the inner planet fixed to the properties of Kepler-88 and the mass and orbital elements of the outer planet varied. Applying to Kepler-88, we obtained an overall fractional error of $\lesssim$10\% on semi-major axis and eccentricity, and $\sim 10-30\%$ on planet mass (assuming that the stellar and transiting planet parameters are known), based on a training set of a million simulations. When applied to the test set, our model achieves low fractional errors of less than a few percent for systems with TTV semi-amplitudes ranging from $\sim 0.3$ s to $\sim 5$ min. Extending our approach to a broader range of planetary architectures, including systems with substantially weaker or stronger TTV signals and those containing additional planets or stellar companions, remains an important direction for future work.

MedVTok: A General-Purpose Medical Visual Tokenizer

Chenglong Ma, Yuanfeng Ji, Junzhi Ning, Jiyao Liu, Yujie Wei, Shaohao Rui, Chaoyang Zhang, Wenjie Li 等 21 位作者

Multimodal medical AI requires a common visual interface for encoding heterogeneous imaging evidence for patient condition modeling. However, existing medical visual tokenizers are often tied to a specific dimension and imaging modality, forcing multimodal systems to rely on fragmented and poorly reusable representations. We introduce MedVTok, a general-purpose visual tokenizer that maps 2D images and 3D volumes from diverse imaging modalities into a unified token space. Building such a tokenizer poses two key challenges: preserving anatomical structure across dimensions and capturing clinical semantics across modalities. To this end, MedVTok introduces (i) slice differential regularization, which explicitly models inter-slice anatomical coherence missing in previous per-pixel/per-voxel supervision, and (ii) multi-expert representation alignment, which integrates knowledge from multiple medical expert encoders while retaining modality-specific complementary knowledge. Trained on 28M images and 70K volumes across 9 imaging modalities, MedVTok supports classification, retrieval, segmentation, synthesis, visual question answering, and medical report generation through a single tokenizer. Across 24 benchmarks, MedVTok achieves state-of-the-art performance, demonstrating a scalable token interface that unifies medical image dimension, modality, and task usage.

HiFiPix: Bringing High-Fidelity Real-World Super-Resolution Back to Pixel Space

Wenjie Li, Du Chen, Hui Wang, Linlong Fan, Youwei Lv, Zeyi Chen, Zehan Chen, Jinwei Chen 等 11 位作者

Diffusion-based real-world image super-resolution suffers from limited reconstruction fidelity due to information loss in VAE-based latent representations. Recently, pixel-space diffusion models offer a promising high-faithfulness alternative by avoiding latent compression, but adapting them to Real-ISR remains challenging due to inherent patch boundary artifacts and degraded generative capability. To address the issues and maximize the potential of pretrained pixel-space diffusion models, we propose HiFiPix, a pixel-space Real-ISR framework capable of ultra high-fidelity reconstruction and fine-grained visual generation effects. To suppress patch boundary artifacts, we penalize unrealistic high-frequency periodic components with a Cross-Scale Wavelet Discriminator (CWSD) for image-level supervision, and Mixup Contrastive Self-Distillation (MixCSD) for intermediate representation regularization. Furthermore, we uncover a heterogeneous generation-fidelity trade-off across low-rank adapters (LoRA) and propose Selective LoRA Pruning (LoRA-SP) to adaptively prune LoRA layers, enhancing generative capability with minimal deterioration of reconstruction fidelity. Extensive experiments demonstrate that HiFiPix consistently outperforms existing state-of-the-art latent space methods in terms of both restoration accuracy and perceptual quality by a large margin. Code and models will be released.

PolicyMediator: Multi-Regional Policy Learning through Mediation Agents with Evolving Skills in OPC Ecosystems

Jie Li, Bin Guo, Georgina Curto, Zikang Liu, Mengqi Chen, yu li

One-person companies (OPCs) are emerging enterprises operated by individual entrepreneurs through digital platforms and LLM-based AI agents. These highly skilled entrepreneurs are characterized by being digital nomads, with limited reliance on local ecosystems. Governments in China use distinct regional support policies to attract mobile OPCs, turning local support into a cross-regional coordination problem. OPCs compare regions to maximize their own utility, but imperfect policy perceptions may cause them to reject otherwise suitable locations. Existing policy-learning methods optimize resources under fixed perceptions, while consensus-formation methods aggregate views without feeding cognitive changes back into policy learning. This disconnect produces mismatched location choices and inefficient regional policy adjustment. We introduce PolicyMediator, a cognition-constrained leader-multi-follower Stackelberg framework with bilateral mediation. The mediator explains verified policies to OPCs to build awareness and trust, and reports their needs and unresolved concerns to governments for policy learning. Its self-evolving skills retain, revise, or prune strategies using verification, allocation, capacity, and objective trajectories rather than mediation success alone. Across six-region simulations in China with five OPC types, five scenarios, and three OPC-simulator backbones, PolicyMediator ranks first in all 15 OPC-backbone--scenario combinations. Over the eight-baseline mean, it improves the aggregate government objective, combining economic performance, employment benefit, and policy-access equality, by 42.4% and average OPC utility by 40.9%.

ImageTTS: Repurposing Pretrained Image Diffusion Transformers for Speech Synthesis

Hanchen Pei, Shujie Liu, Yayue Deng, Fangyun Wei, Yanqing Liu, Jianwei Yu, Gongping Huang

Pretrained image-generation models have been successfully repurposed for various downstream visual tasks. Whether their learned representations and generative priors can transfer beyond vision to other modalities remains largely unresolved, particularly for speech synthesis, which requires linguistic fidelity and preservation of speaker identity from a short reference. We present ImageTTS, which repurposes FLUX.2 for speech synthesis by encoding pseudo-RGB log-mel spectrograms with its frozen image VAE and adapting only its pretrained Diffusion Transformer (DiT) using conditional latent flow matching. This formulation disentangles two forms of vision-to-speech transfer: representation transfer through the image VAE and generative-prior transfer through DiT initialization. The frozen image VAE largely preserves intelligibility and speaker identity with 0.99 STOI and 0.95 speaker similarity, while image-pretrained DiT initialization accelerates convergence and improves linguistic accuracy, reducing WER from 4.2\% to 2.7\% at 100k matched updates relative to random initialization. The same framework supports both zero-shot and instruction-guided TTS and, when scaled to 100K hours of speech data, achieves 1.12\% WER on Seed-TTS test-en and a Style-ACC of 0.66 on CapSpeech, outperforming speech-native baselines trained on comparable data across both tasks. These results suggest that pretrained image models can transfer beyond architectural reuse, supplying useful latent representations and generative priors for intelligible and controllable speech synthesis.

Synthetic data has emerged as a crucial solution to the data scarcity bottleneck in large language models (LLMs), particularly for specialized domains and low-resource languages. However, the broader adoption of existing synthetic data tools is severely hindered by convoluted workflows, fragmented data standards, and limited scalability across modalities. To address these limitations, we develop DataArc-SynData-Toolkit, an open-source framework featuring: (1) a configuration-driven, end-to-end pipeline equipped with an intuitive visual interface and simplified CLI for exceptional usability; (2) a unified, quality-controllable synthesis paradigm that standardizes multi-source data generation to ensure high reusability; and (3) a highly modular architecture designed for seamless multimodal, multilingual, and multi-task adaptation. We apply the toolkit in multiple application scenarios. Experimental results demonstrate that our toolkit achieves an optimal balance between generation efficiency and data quality. By offering an end-to-end and visually interactive pipeline, DataArc-SynData-Toolkit significantly lowers the technical barrier to synthetic data generation and subsequent model training, accelerating its practical deployment in real-world applications.

Task-Aware LLM Routing with Multi-Level Task-Profile-Guided Data Synthesis for Cold-Start Scenarios

Hui Liu City University of Hong Kong, Bin Zou, Kecheng Chen City University of Hong Kong, Jie Liu City University of Hong Kong, Wenya Wang Nanyang Technological University, Haoliang Li City University of Hong Kong

Large language models (LLMs) exhibit substantial variability in performance and computational cost across tasks and queries, motivating routing systems that select models to meet user-specific cost–performance trade-offs. However, existing routers generalize poorly in cold-start scenarios where in-domain training data is unavailable. We address this limitation with a multi-level task-profile–guided data synthesis framework that constructs a hierarchical task taxonomy and produces diverse question–answer pairs to approximate the test-time query distribution. Building on this, we introduce TRouter, a task-type–aware router approach that models query-conditioned cost and performance via latent task-type variables, with prior regularization derived from the synthesized task taxonomy. This design enhances TRouter’s routing utility under both cold-start and in-domain settings. Across multiple benchmarks, we show that our synthesis framework alleviates cold-start issues and that TRouter delivers effective LLM routing.

AutoGraph-R1: End-to-End Reinforcement Learning for Knowledge Graph Construction

Hong Ting Tsang, Jiaxin Bai Hong Kong Baptist University, Haoyu Huang, Qiao Xiao, Tianshi Zheng The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Baixuan Xu Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Shujie Liu, Yangqiu Song Hong Kong University of Science and Technology

Building effective knowledge graphs (KGs) for Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) is pivotal for advancing question answering (QA) systems. However, its effectiveness is hindered by a fundamental disconnect: the knowledge graph (KG) construction process is decoupled from its downstream application, yielding suboptimal graph structures. To bridge this gap, we introduce AutoGraph-R1, the first framework to directly optimize KG construction for task performance using Reinforcement Learning (RL). AutoGraph-R1 trains an LLM constructor by framing graph generation as a policy learning problem, where the reward is derived from the graph’s functional utility in a RAG pipeline. We design two novel, task-aware reward functions, one for graphs as knowledge carriers and another as knowledge indices. Across multiple QA benchmarks, AutoGraph-R1 consistently enables graph RAG methods to achieve significant performance gains over using task-agnostic baseline graphs. Our work shows it is possible to close the loop between construction and application, shifting the paradigm from building intrinsically ‘good‘ graphs to building demonstrably ‘useful‘ ones.

Pruning Unsafe Tickets: A Resource-Efficient Framework for Safer and More Robust LLMs

Wai Man Si, Mingjie Li CISPA Helmholtz Center for Information Security, Michael Backes CISPA Helmholtz Center for Information Security, Yang Zhang CISPA Helmholtz Center for Information Security

Machine learning models are increasingly deployed in real-world applications, but even aligned models such as Mistral and LLaVA still exhibit unsafe behaviors inherited from pre-training. Current alignment methods like SFT and RLHF primarily encourage models to generate preferred responses, but do not explicitly remove the unsafe subnetworks that trigger harmful outputs. In this work, we introduce a resource-efficient pruning framework that directly identifies and removes parameters associated with unsafe behaviors while preserving model utility. Our method employs a gradient-free attribution mechanism, requiring only modest GPU resources, and generalizes across architectures and quantized variants. Empirical evaluations on ML models show substantial reductions in unsafe generations and improved robustness against jailbreak attacks, with minimal utility loss. From the perspective of the Lottery Ticket Hypothesis, our results suggest that ML models contain “unsafe tickets” responsible for harmful behaviors, and pruning reveals “safety tickets” that maintain performance while aligning outputs. This provides a lightweight, post-hoc alignment strategy suitable for deployment in resource-constrained settings.

Benchmarking Egocentric Clinical Intent Understanding Capability for Medical Multimodal Large Language Models

Shaonan Liu Shenzhen University, Guo Yu, Xiaoling Luo Shenzhen University, Shiyi Zheng, Jie Liu City University of Hong Kong, Wenting Chen, Linlin Shen Shenzhen University

Medical Multimodal Large Language Models (Med-MLLMs) require egocentric clinical intent understanding for real-world deployment, yet existing benchmarks fail to evaluate this critical capability. We introduce MedGaze-Bench, the first benchmark leveraging clinician gaze as a Cognitive Cursor to assess intent understanding across surgery, emergency simulation, and diagnostic interpretation. Our benchmark addresses three fundamental challenges: visual homogeneity of anatomical structures, strict temporal-causal dependencies in clinical workflows, and implicit adherence to safety protocols. We propose a Three-Dimensional Clinical Intent Framework evaluating: (1) Spatial Intent—discriminating precise targets amid visual noise, (2) Temporal Intent—inferring causal rationale through retrospective and prospective reasoning, and (3) Standard Intent—verifying protocol compliance through safety checks. Beyond accuracy metrics, we introduce Trap QA mechanisms to stress-test clinical reliability by penalizing hallucinations and cognitive sycophancy. Experiments reveal current MLLMs struggle with egocentric intent due to over-reliance on global features, leading to fabricated observations and uncritical acceptance of invalid instructions.

Reinforcement Learning (RL) is the dominant paradigm for training Large Language Model (LLM) agents on long-horizon tasks. However, sparse and delayed rewards often lead to trajectory neglect, in which agents lose focus on the task goal and interaction history at intermediate steps. Prior work has explored step-level supervision using Shannon-entropy–based uncertainty signals, which conflate inherent state complexity with agent confidence and therefore provide unreliable estimates of decision reliability. To address this issue, we propose normalized entropy, which measures confidence deviations relative to an agent’s average behavior under a given state, thereby strengthening the association between low-quality actions and trajectory neglect. Building on this insight, we introduce Selective Trajectory-Aware Policy Optimization (STAPO), a hierarchical group-based RL framework. STAPO leverages normalized entropy to locate outlier steps associated with trajectory neglect and optimizes them via a joint mechanism of trajectory-aware reward and trajectory-independent penalty, enhancing trajectory awareness while preserving training stability. Extensive experiments on ALFWorld, WebShop, and Search-Augmented QA demonstrate that STAPO achieves state-of-the-art performance while substantially alleviating trajectory neglect, validating its effectiveness and robustness for agentic tasks.

KoCo-Bench: Can Large Language Models Leverage Domain Knowledge in Software Development?

Xue Jiang, Ge Li Peking University, Jiaru Qian, Xianjie Shi, Chenjie Li Peking University, Hao Zhu, Ziyu Wang Peking University, Jielun Zhang Peking University 等 14 位作者

Large language models (LLMs) excel at general programming but struggle with domain-specific software development. This gap motivates research into domain specialization methods that enable LLMs to learn and utilize domain knowledge and data. However, existing domain-specific code benchmarks focus on assessing what knowledge LLMs possess rather than how they acquire and apply new knowledge, lacking explicit knowledge corpora for developing domain specialization methods. To this end, we present KOCO-bench, a novel benchmark designed for evaluating domain specialization methods in real-world software development. KOCO-bench contains 6 emerging domains with 11 software frameworks and 25 projects, featuring curated knowledge corpora alongside multi-granularity evaluation tasks including domain code generation (from function-level to project-level with rigorous test suites) and domain knowledge understanding (via multiple-choice Q A). Unlike previous benchmarks that only provide test sets for direct evaluation, KOCO-bench requires acquiring and applying diverse domain knowledge (APIs, rules, constraints, etc.) from the corpora to solve evaluation tasks. Our evaluations reveal that KOCO-bench poses significant challenges to state-of-the-art LLMs. Even with domain specialization methods (e.g., SFT, RAG, kNN-LM) applied, improvements remain marginal. Best-performing coding agent, Claude Code, achieves only 34.2%, highlighting the urgent need for more effective domain specialization methods. We release KOCO-bench, evaluation code, and baselines to advance further research at https://github.com/jiangxxxue/KOCO-bench.

Beyond Atomic Characters: Glyph-Aware Sub-character Alignment for Low-Resource Multilingual OCR

Mengxiao Zhu North China University of Technology, Haixu Chen, Jiu Sha Minzu University of China, Jie Liu North China University of Technology, Ge Shi

Low-resource multilingual OCR faces a dual challenge: complex script structures and severe data scarcity. In such settings, existing OCR models often struggle, as coarse visual representations combined with weak linguistic priors lead to frequent errors among visually similar characters. To address this, we present BASA (Beyond Atomic Sub-character Alignment), a OCR framework built upon high-resolution visual and language backbones with a novel glyph-aware interface. The core technical contribution is the Glyph-Aware Fine-grained Adapter (GAFA). Unlike standard linear projectors, GAFA employs learnable glyph prototypes to actively align sub-character structural primitives (e.g., strokes and radicals) with visual features, explicitly resolving topological ambiguities during vision–language alignment. To complement this, we introduce a two-stage curriculum learning strategy supported by a Glyph-Aware Reverse Synthesis pipeline, which generates large-scale multilingual training corpora with automatic, zero-cost component labels. Furthermore, we construct BASA-Bench, a representative benchmark spanning 11 languages with diverse script structures and 23 authentic scenarios. Experiments demonstrate that BASA achieves consistent improvements over strong OCR baselines, particularly on scripts with complex compositions. Our model and benchmark will be available at https://github.com/NcutLLM/BASA.

MIND Your Reasoning: A Meta-Cognitive Intuitive-Reflective Network for Dual-Reasoning in Multimodal Stance Detection

Bingbing Wang, Zhengda Jin, Bin Liang The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Wenjie Li The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Jing Li The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Ruifeng Xu Harbin Institute of Technology, Min Zhang Harbin Institute of Technology, Shenzhen and Harbin Institute of Technology

Multimodal Stance Detection (MSD) is a crucial task for understanding public opinion on social media. Existing methods predominantly operate by learning to fuse modalities. They lack an explicit reasoning process to discern how inter-modal dynamics, such as irony or conflict, collectively shape the user’s final stance, leading to frequent misjudgments. To address this, we advocate for a paradigm shift from learning to fuse to learning to reason. We introduce MIND, a Meta-cognitive Intuitive-reflective Network for Dual-reasoning. Inspired by the dual-process theory of human cognition, MIND operationalizes a self-improving loop. It first generates a rapid, intuitive hypothesis by querying evolving Modality and Semantic Experience Pools. Subsequently, a meta-cognitive reflective stage uses Modality-CoT and Semantic-CoT to scrutinize this initial judgment, distill superior adaptive strategies, and evolve the experience pools themselves. These dual experience structures are continuously refined during training and recalled at inference to guide robust and context-aware stance decisions. Extensive experiments on the MMSD benchmark demonstrate that our MIND significantly outperforms most baseline models and exhibits strong generalization.

LCMA-SRT: Language-Conditional Mixture-of-Experts Adapters for Joint Multilingual Speech Recognition and Translation

Nanjie Li, Xiaoyong Guo, Hao Huang, Xu Haihua Timekettle technology, Wei Shi Timekettle

Neural transducers offer an alignment-free framework for speech-to-text modeling, and hierarchical transducer architectures further improve multilingual joint automatic speech recognition (ASR) and speech translation (ST) by stacking a translation-focused encoder on top of an ASR encoder. However, extending hierarchical transducers to multilingual many-to-many settings remains challenging: fully shared models often suffer from negative transfer and unstable target-language generation, while training separate models for each direction is computationally prohibitive. We propose LCMA-SRT (Language-Conditional Mixture-of-Experts Adapters for Speech Recognition and Translation), which augments a hierarchical transducer with language-conditional Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) adapters. A source-conditioned MoE adapter (SRC-MoE) uses source-language embeddings to reduce cross-language interference and improve multilingual ASR. A target-conditioned MoE adapter (TGT-MoE) uses the desired target language to reduce cross-target interference and stabilize target-language generation in many-to-many ST. Experiments on Europarl-ST (9 languages, 72 directions) show that LCMA-SRT improves both ASR and ST within a single joint model, reducing average WER and improving BLEU and COMET over strong hierarchical transducer baselines. We release our code and models at https://github.com/linanjie0820/LCMA-SRT.

SeDev: Structured Semantic Exploration for LLM-Driven Code Generation

Ronghui Yang South China University of Technology, Jie Liu South China University of Technology, Jiajie Zeng South China University of Technology, Jiexin Wang, Jiuchuan Jiang, Bo An Nanyang Technological University, Yi Cai South China University of Technology, Mengchen Zhao South China University of Technology

Large Language Models (LLMs) have shown remarkable capabilities in automating code generation. Recent approaches that incorporate feedback refinement mechanisms into the generation process have further enhanced software generation quality. However, these methods can be characterized as single-path approaches, which suffer from insufficient exploration of the vast solution space, often causing even the most powerful models to get stuck in local optima and struggle to generate the desired software. Some other works use Monte Carlo Tree Search (MCTS) to explore multiple paths for finding the best solution; yet, MCTS can be extremely inefficient in practice. To this end, we propose SeDev, a novel LLM-driven code generation framework that efficiently finds high-quality solutions in only a few iterations. The core idea of SeDev is to gradually explore semantically adjacent solutions through structured prompt guidance and feedback on previous trials, while using unit tests to evaluate the quality of exploration. To distill the exploration experience, SeDev incorporates a feedback synthesis module that translates unit test results within exploration into comprehensive suggestions. We construct a challenging feature oriented software benchmark FSD-bench++, along with two open datasets to evaluate. Experimental results show that SeDev outperforms baselines while maintaining reasonable time and computational costs. Code is available here.

Diversity in Unity, Theory in Practice: Hierarchical Multitask Benchmarks for Chinese Minority Languages

Yijie Li, Xi Cao, Yuan Sun Minzu University of China, Quulgan Minggad, Abdulla Ablikim, Jia Qing Cai Wang

Despite the rapid advancement of LLMs, their performance on linguistically and culturally diverse minority languages within a unified national context remains underexplored. We present CMiLBench, a collection of hierarchical multitask benchmarks designed to translate theoretical notions of “diversity in unity” into practical evaluation for three representative Chinese minority languages: Tibetan, Mongolian, and Uyghur. CMiLBench comprises 24,663 instances across 5 difficulty levels and 17 tasks spanning foundational ability, cultural specificity, and safety alignment. We adopt existing dataset adaptation, minority knowledge construction, and high-resource benchmark translation to construct CMiLBench. We assess 14 state-of-the-art commercial and open-source LLMs with a hybrid framework that integrates automatic metrics and LLM-as-a-Judge scoring. The comparative experimental results reveal the gap between theoretical capability and practical utility. CMiLBench serves as a foundational and scalable evaluation resource to bridge the digital language divide and promote the informatization and intelligentization of low-resource Chinese minority languages.

Foresight Optimization for Strategic Reasoning in Large Language Models

Jessie Wang Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Jiawen Duan, Jian Wang The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Kaitao Song Apple, Chunpu Xu, Johnny K. W. Ho Hong Kong Polytechnic University, YU Fenggang, Johan F. Hoorn Hong Kong Polytechnic University 等 9 位作者

Reasoning capabilities in large language models (LLMs) have generally advanced significantly. However, it is still challenging for existing reasoning-based LLMs to perform effective decision-making abilities in multi-agent environments, due to the absence of explicit foresight modeling. To this end, strategic reasoning, the most fundamental capability to anticipate the counterpart’s behaviors and foresee its possible future actions, has been introduced to alleviate the above issues. Strategic reasoning is fundamental to effective decision-making in multi-agent environments, yet existing reasoning enhancement methods for LLMs do not explicitly capture its foresight nature. In this work, we introduce Foresight Policy Optimization (FoPO) to enhance strategic reasoning in LLMs, which integrates opponent modeling principles into policy optimization, thereby enabling explicit consideration of both self-interest and counterpart influence. Specifically, we construct two curated datasets, namely Cooperative RSA and Competitive Taboo, equipped with well-designed rules and moderate difficulty to facilitate a systematic investigation of FoPO in a self-play framework. Our experiments demonstrate that FoPO significantly enhances strategic reasoning across LLMs of varying sizes and origins. Moreover, models trained with FoPO exhibit strong generalization to out-of-domain strategic scenarios, substantially outperforming standard LLM reasoning optimization baselines.

REAL: REtrieval-reAsoning and Logic-constructed Attention Behaviors for Long-Context KV Cache Compression

Mengjie Li Yonsei University, Yuan Feng, Xike Xie, William J. Song Yonsei University

The growing sequence length of large language models poses significant challenges for key-value (KV) caches. Existing state-of-the-art cache eviction methods primarily analyze the inference behavior of attention heads in successful retrieval-reasoning cases, often overlooking diverse behaviors in failure cases, such as bias and distraction. This oversight limits the potential to leverage heterogeneous head behaviors for improved eviction performance. Inspired by the confusion matrix, we introduce an Attention Behavior Matrix to comprehensively analyze attention head behaviors in both success and failure scenarios. By maximizing the signal-to-noise ratio — strengthening valid reasoning pathways in success cases while inhibiting noise from bias and distraction in failure cases — we propose REtrieval-reAsoning and Logic-constructed (REAL) KV cache eviction, the first method to leverage multi-behavior analysis. Comprehensive evaluations show that REAL achieves remarkable performance across various models and benchmarks; notably, on LongBench v2, it achieves comparable accuracy to the strongest baseline, HeadKV-R2, while requiring 32x less space. By offering a novel perspective on behavior analysis, we pave the way for a shift from success-only to comprehensive, failure-aware methods in long-context modeling. Our code is available at https://github.com/yonseicasl/REAL.

HiEdit: Lifelong Model Editing with Hierarchical Reinforcement Learning

Yangfan Wang Harbin Institute of Technology, Tianyang Sun, Chen Tang, Jie Liu Harbin Institute of Technology, Wei Cai Harbin Institute of Technology, Jingchi Jiang Harbin Institute of Technology

Lifelong model editing (LME) aims to sequentially rectify outdated or inaccurate knowledge in deployed LLMs while minimizing side effects on unrelated inputs. However, existing approaches typically apply parameter perturbations to a static and dense set of LLM layers for all editing instances. This practice is counter-intuitive, as we hypothesize that different pieces of knowledge are stored in distinct layers of the model. Neglecting this layer-wise specificity can impede adaptability in integrating new knowledge and result in catastrophic forgetting for both general and previously edited knowledge. To address this, we propose HiEdit, a hierarchical reinforcement learning framework that adaptively identifies the most knowledge-relevant layers for each editing instance. By enabling dynamic, instance-aware layer selection and incorporating an intrinsic reward for sparsity, HiEdit achieves precise, localized updates. Experiments on various LLMs show that HiEdit boosts the performance of the competitive RLEdit by an average of 8.48% with perturbing only half of the layers per edit. Our code is available at: https://github.com/yangfanww/hiedit.
