IGSW: Multi-Weather Urban Scene Reconstruction with Intrinsic-Decoupled Gaussian Splatting

Zhongquan Wang, Long Cao, Peijia Xie, Senlei Ma, Jie Li, Guofa Li

原文摘要

High-fidelity weather editing of 4D scenes can support end-to-end training and closed-loop simulation for autonomous driving. Combining generative image editing with dynamic Gaussian representations enables multi-weather scene reconstruction, but weather-edited images often contain structural distortions. Directly fitting their appearance may propagate errors from teacher images into the reconstructed 4D scene, compromising the original scene structure and temporal continuity. To address these challenges, we propose IGSW, a two-stage framework that combines intrinsic-decoupled 4D Gaussian scene modeling with structure-preserving weather refinement. In Stage I, background Gaussian appearance is decomposed into weather-shared albedo and normals and weather-specific irradiance and residuals. Weather teacher images generated by a diffusion-based image editing model and intrinsic maps estimated by a diffusion-based inverse renderer provide feature-level soft supervision for stable structure and illumination changes. In Stage II, a structure-preservation gate combines semantic conflicts with cross-weather intrinsic discrepancies to suppress unreliable teacher regions. Per-Gaussian weather transport variables and target-weather branches then strengthen the desired weather appearance over the intrinsic-decoupled scene. Experiments on nuScenes and Waymo show that IGSW achieves the highest content similarity and semantic consistency and the lowest temporal error among the compared methods, while retaining pronounced weather-dependent illumination and atmosphere. 原文摘要

Governing equations provide an interpretable description of the mechanisms underlying complex network dynamics, yet their discovery from observational data remains challenging when shared community-level dynamics coexist with individual-level variations and the relevant functional structures may be absent from the initial candidate library or not explicitly specified in advance. Here we formulate this task as a hierarchical law-discovery problem and introduce SAGE, a large language model-guided self-reflective agent framework for discovering community-shared governing laws and individual-specific dynamical variations. SAGE organizes equation discovery into an iterative Library-Discovery-Review process that first identifies shared community-level structures and then resolves node-specific residual dynamics, while adaptively refining the candidate space to introduce missing dynamical terms when needed. This hierarchical and interpretable formulation enables SAGE to distinguish shared community-level dynamics from individual-level variations and to reveal the mechanisms underlying complex network dynamics. Across two synthetic networks and four real-world networks spanning mobile communication, brain electrophysiology, power grids and urban rail transit, SAGE recovers compact and interpretable governing equations, reproduces observed system dynamics and outperforms representative equation-discovery baselines. The framework remains robust under incomplete observations and can transfer community-level governing laws to nodes with entirely missing observations. These results establish a hierarchical and adaptive approach for disentangling shared and individual dynamical mechanisms in community-structured complex networks.

Unraveling the Efficacy of Neuron Coverage Criteria on Testing Large Language Models

Xiaoning Ren, Jiayang Song, Chongyang Liu, Jie Li, Lei Ma, Yinxing Xue

原文摘要

Neuron coverage criteria aim to assess test suite quality and guide test input generation, but their effectiveness for Transformer-based language models remains unclear. We evaluate six criteria, including four established and two recent criteria, across encoder-only, decoder-only, and encoder-decoder models. Our evaluation examines error-revealing capability, distribution diversity, sample fairness (category diversity), and guidance for test input generation. The results reveal uneven effectiveness. Erroneous samples provide only 0.32% additional coverage over noise samples, indicating limited sensitivity to adversarial errors. By contrast, coverage criteria effectively assess distribution diversity and sample fairness in 26 and 30 of 33 configurations, respectively. Incorporating neuron-wise coverage guidance into test input generation increases adversarial sample production by only 4.56%. These findings suggest that existing coverage criteria can serve as an antidote for assessing diversity but remain largely a placebo for revealing adversarial errors, particularly when used individually. Their practical value therefore depends on whether these limited benefits justify the computational overhead of testing large Transformer-based models. Our study highlights the need for more robust and efficient coverage criteria tailored to these models, with stronger error-revealing capability and greater value for test generation.

Assuring Learning-Enabled Cyber-Physical Systems with Foundation Models: A Neuro-Symbolic Agenda for Testing, Verification, and Runtime Assurance

原文摘要

Learning-enabled cyber-physical systems (CPS), including autonomous vehicles and UAVs, increasingly incorporate foundation models, yet fragmented assurance practices provide insufficient support for system-level guarantees. We argue that restoring engineering control across stochastic neural, symbolic, and physical boundaries requires a shift from model-centric evaluation to system-level assurance. We introduce the Foundation Model Assurance Stack, connecting three directions: (i) neuro-symbolic architectures that constrain foundation models through explicit symbolic world models, reasoning layers, and interfaces; (ii) semantically grounded, conformance-based testing that combines formal specifications and symbolic world models with foundation-model-assisted specification mining, scenario generation, and test synthesis; and (iii) compositional verification and runtime assurance that target formally tractable components and interfaces through modular contracts, equivalence checking, verified synthesis, uncertainty-aware reasoning, and runtime monitoring and enforcement. Symbolic abstractions establish assurance boundaries between stochastic learning and formal reasoning, connecting testing, verification, and runtime evidence across the system lifecycle. Foundation models serve as constrained assistants whose outputs are independently checked wherever correctness can be formally specified. We identify research challenges in specification engineering, abstraction fidelity, evidence composition, and lifecycle certification, and outline a staged agenda toward trustworthy, deployable, and certifiable learning-enabled CPS.

Lost in the Latent Space: How Code Embeddings Represent Functional Intent and Implementation Fidelity

Lu Sun, Yuheng Huang, Lei Ma, Zhijie Wang

原文摘要

Code embedding models have become a key building block for many software engineering applications, yet their internal representations remain poorly understood. Existing evaluations tend to focus on downstream task performance, offering limited insight into whether a single embedding can support both functional abstraction and implementation-sensitive analysis. To address this gap, we present a large-scale empirical study of 14 state-of-the-art code embedding models. We evaluate their representational behavior through three complementary analyses: supervised probing for functional abstraction and implementation fidelity, zero-shot retrieval experiments to assess geometric similarity, and controlled perturbation experiments that measure embedding responses to semantics-preserving code transformations. The results reveal a consistent abstraction-fidelity tension: models that better preserve stylistic and structural signals tend to do so at the expense of semantic generalization, while models with similar retrieval performance can nevertheless respond very differently to the same implementation changes. Overall, our findings suggest that a single universal code representation remains out of reach, motivating more representation-aware evaluation, selection, and deployment of code embedding models in software engineering.

Table Question Answering in the Era of Large Language Models: A Comprehensive Survey of Tasks, Methods, and Evaluation

Wei Zhou, Bolei Ma, Annemarie Friedrich, Mohsen Mesgar BCAI, Bosch Center for AI

原文摘要

Table Question Answering (TQA) aims to answer natural language questions using tabular data, often accompanied by additional contexts, such as passages. The task spans diverse settings, varying in table representation, question/answer complexity, modality involved, and domain. While recent advances in large language models (LLMs) have driven substantial progress for TQA, the field still lacks a systematic organization and understanding of task formulations, core challenges, and methodological trends, particularly in light of emerging research directions, such as reinforcement learning. This survey addresses this gap by providing a comprehensive and structured overview of TQA research using LLMs. We introduce various task setups and summarize available benchmarks based on task features. We categorize current modeling strategies according to the challenges they target, and analyze their strengths and limitations. Furthermore, we highlight underexplored but timely topics that have not been systematically covered in prior surveys. By unifying disparate research threads and identifying open problems, our survey offers a consolidated foundation for the TQA community, enabling a deeper understanding of the state of the art and guiding future developments in this rapidly evolving area.

The Imperfective Paradox in Large Language Models

Bolei Ma, Yusuke Miyao NII, Tokyo Institute of Technology, The University of Tokyo and AIST, National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology

原文摘要

Do Large Language Models (LLMs) genuinely grasp the compositional semantics of events, or do they rely on surface-level probabilistic heuristics? We investigate the Imperfective Paradox, a logical phenomenon where the past progressive aspect entails event realization for activities (e.g., running \to ran) but not for accomplishments (e.g., building \nrightarrow built). We introduce ImperfectiveNLI, a diagnostic dataset designed to probe this distinction across diverse semantic classes. Evaluating state-of-the-art open-weight models, we uncover a pervasive Teleological Bias: models systematically hallucinate completion for goal-oriented events, even overriding explicit textual cancellation. Prompting interventions partially reduce this bias but trigger a calibration crisis, causing models to incorrectly reject valid entailments for atelic verbs. Representational analyses further show that while internal embeddings often distinguish progressive from simple past forms, inference decisions are dominated by strong priors about goal attainment. Taken together, our findings indicate that these current open-weight LLMs operate as predictive narrative engines rather than faithful logical reasoners, and that resolving aspectual inference requires moving beyond prompting toward structurally grounded alignment.

MSMO-ABSA: Multi-Scale and Multi-Objective Optimization for Cross-Lingual Aspect-Based Sentiment Analysis

Chengyan Wu, Bolei Ma, Ningyuan Deng The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, He Yanqing Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China, Yun Xue, Liu Xiaoyong

原文摘要

Aspect-based sentiment analysis (ABSA) garnered growing research interest in multilingual contexts in the past. However, the majority of the studies lack more robust feature alignment and finer aspect-level alignment. In this paper, we propose a novel framework, MSMO: Multi-Scale and Multi-Objective optimization for cross-lingual ABSA. During multi-scale alignment, we achieve cross-lingual sentence-level and aspect-level alignment, aligning features of aspect terms in different contextual environments. Specifically, we introduce code-switched bilingual sentences into the language discriminator and consistency training modules to enhance the model’s robustness. During multi-objective optimization, we design two optimization objectives: supervised training and consistency training, aiming to enhance cross-lingual semantic alignment. To further improve model performance, we incorporate distilled knowledge of the target language into the model. Results show that MSMO significantly enhances cross-lingual ABSA by achieving state-of-the-art performance across multiple languages and models.
