SemantiScene-Edit: Expert-Synthesized Supervision and Dual-Path Source Conditioning for Instruction-Based Video Editing

Xinyu Chen, Song Wu, Dingbao Shao, Jiahang Li, Jiang Lin, Yuhang Liu, Duo Li, Jiaxin Hu 等 15 位作者

Instruction-guided video editing requires executing a requested change while preserving the source video's appearance and temporal structure. We present SemantiScene-Edit, a video editor that couples a multimodal encoder with a pretrained video diffusion transformer. The encoder jointly processes source frames and the editing instruction, and learnable queries convey their semantic context to the generator through a trainable connector and cross-attention. A complementary visual pathway concatenates source-video latents with noisy target latents before patch embedding, supplying dense spatial and temporal information for content preservation. We train the model with flow matching and a three-stage image--video curriculum comprising semantic alignment, joint adaptation, and high-resolution refinement. To support training, we construct over 1.2 million instruction-conditioned video-editing records covering object addition, removal, replacement, and attribute modification. We also construct a 100-case benchmark for evaluating instruction execution, source preservation, temporal consistency, and visual quality. Comparative experiments show that SemantiScene-Edit effectively follows editing instructions while retaining source content. At inference, the model requires only a source video and a natural-language instruction.

Encode Once, Answer Many: Internalizing Context via Parametric Flow

Xinhao Zhong, Mengxuan Wu, Chonghua Liao, Linxi Xie, Ruicheng Feng, Yanpei Guo, Hao Tan, Jiaxin Hong 等 25 位作者

Large language models are typically adapted to a task either by placing knowledge in the input context, which keeps it external and re-encodes it on every call, or by fine-tuning, which internalizes it but demands a costly round of optimization per task. We aim to internalize the knowledge carried by a context directly into model parameters, without per-task optimization and without keeping the context in the input at inference time. To this end, we propose CLIK, a context-conditioned parameter generator that maps a given context to LoRA parameters for internalizing knowledge in a single forward pass through a Transformer encoder with cross-attention, requiring no test-time gradient updates. Once the generated LoRA is inserted into a frozen base model, the model answers downstream queries from the query alone, having internalized the context into its weights rather than re-reading it. Because the adapter depends only on the context, it is generated once and reused for every query on the same document, so the cost of reading that document is amortized across queries. On document question answering, CLIK substantially improves over the no-context base model and outperforms existing hypernetwork-based generators, while remaining behind a base model that reads the context directly, and it carries over to multi-turn dialogue without any multi-turn-specific training. Analysis further shows that the context-dependent part of the generated adapter concentrates in a compact and specific substructure.

GOFish: Full Field-of-View Gaussian Splatting and Mesh Extraction

Allen Tu, Meher Gitika Karumuri, Shifan Zhu, Hailing Wang, Yen-Liang Lin, David Held, Matthias Zwicker, Tom Goldstein

Robots, autonomous vehicles, and consumer 360° cameras use fisheye lenses for wide fields of view (FoVs). Simulation-ready digital twins require photorealistic rendering across the full FoV and an aligned collision mesh. However, prior fisheye Gaussian Splatting methods only rasterize up to 180° and do not produce meshes, while Gaussian surface reconstruction methods assume pinhole training images. We present GOFish, the first 3D Gaussian Splatting surface reconstruction method to train directly on fisheye images, rasterize FoVs beyond 180°, and extract an aligned mesh from the same scene. Calibrated densification recovers the surface across the entire FoV, while Calibrated Mip Filtering and Wide-Angle Appearance Modeling keep pixel blur and lens falloff out of the scene and mesh. Across the 200° FIORD and 205° FullCircle benchmarks, GOFish improves PSNR over the best prior method by 2.28 and 1.97 dB, respectively. It also outperforms fisheye rendering baselines within their own FoVs and achieves the highest mesh F-score on FIORD and the main ScanNet++ set. Together, the Gaussian scene and mesh form a LiDAR-free, simulation-ready digital twin that renders in real time, ray traces the full FoV, and provides collision geometry.

何时应在测试时进行干预?

When Should We Intervene at Test Time?

Jiahao Zhang, Xinling Wen, Liangliang Li, Yu Chen

AI 速览:PORTAL 是一个决定何时部署测试时干预、标注哪些输入以及何时停止查询的控制器,用少量标签在候选预测规则间做选择。

Test-time adaptation helps a deployed model respond to changing inputs, but the same intervention can rescue one batch and damage the next. Updating normalization statistics, for example, can improve corrupted images yet fail when a batch contains mostly one class. Average accuracy hides these failures and cannot tell a model when to use an intervention. Target labels can guide this decision, but they are scarce and some choices are already clear. We introduce PORTAL, a controller that chooses when to deploy an intervention, which inputs to label, and when to stop querying. Each available prediction rule is a candidate, and its predictions are fixed before current feedback arrives. Every acquired label therefore evaluates all candidates on the same input. PORTAL combines these shared comparisons and directs queries toward candidates that can still overtake the current leader. It stops when the remaining labels cannot change the choice or when the possible accuracy gain no longer justifies another query. Our analysis links the required feedback to accuracy gaps and shared mistakes, explaining why some choices need much less evidence. Experiments show that this control turns an intervention that loses accuracy overall into a useful choice on selected batches. It prevents severe failures caused by changes in arrival order and preserves gains across complete corruption streams. When a fixed rule already works well, PORTAL uses little feedback to retain its performance. Periodic label checks reveal when past evidence needs refreshing and help the controller recover as conditions change. The acquired labels also train stronger candidates for future batches, and selection brings nearly all of their accuracy gains into deployment. The same feedback therefore improves both the choice made now and the predictions available to later batches.

FedHQ: Hybrid Runtime Quantization for Federated Learning

Zihao Zheng, Ziyao Wang, Jiawei Yang, Hangyu Cao, Zhihao Mao, Maoliang Li, Jiayu Chen, Hailong Zou 等 10 位作者

Federated Learning (FL) must balance training efficiency and model accuracy across heterogeneous clients. Post-training quantization (PTQ) avoids the extra computation of quantization-aware training (QAT), but can incur greater accuracy loss. We propose FedHQ, a hybrid quantization framework that assigns PTQ or QAT according to clients' hardware and data characteristics. Hardware-based speed estimates and local data-distribution indicators guide coarse-grained global initialization, followed by fine-grained training-based adjustment of selected client strategies. Experiments on three image-classification datasets show that FedHQ achieves up to 2.47x training speedup over FedAQT and up to 11.15 percentage points higher accuracy than FedFQ.

Look Beyond the Question: Preserve-Focus-Fuse for Whole-Slide Image Question Answering

Xiangyu Li, Jincheng Li, Tianle Du, Yanheng Li, Haoxuan Che, Yuxin Sun, Long Bai, Liangliang Liu 等 9 位作者

A question about a whole-slide image rarely names every morphological finding needed to answer it. Question-guided patch selection can therefore overlook supporting morphology, while slide-level compression can dilute focal evidence. Inspired by how pathologists combine broad slide review, question-directed examination, and integration of their findings, we introduce BEYONDPATH, a Preserve-Focus-Fuse framework for whole-slide image question answering. Preserve learns a question-agnostic Morphology Bank through answer supervision across multiple questions about each training slide. Focus retrieves questionspecific evidence from all foreground patches, including regions outside the Bank. Fuse integrates the preserved morphology at the retrieved evidence positions through Morphology-on-Visual-Evidence Fusion, producing a fixed 96-token visual prefix. On WSI-Bench, BEYONDPATH achieves an Avg-9 of 0.769 and leads all eight reported report-generation metrics using the same checkpoint. It also achieves 0.639 zero-shot overall accuracy on SlideBench-BCNB. Controlled ablations show complementary benefits from morphology preservation and question-directed retrieval, and support cross-question supervision and fusion at the evidence positions. These results support looking beyond the question's explicit cues: preserving broader slide morphology while retaining the ability to seek evidence for each question.

TOPS: Reshaping Flow Source and Transport for Multi-Task Robot Manipulation

Tuo An, Chuhao Zhou, Jiahua Dong, Jingliang Li, Jiaqi Bai, Jindou Jia, Jianfei Yang

Flow-based policies for language-conditioned multi-task manipulation commonly share a single $\textit{Gaussian}$ source prior and a common linear transport path across tasks. However, reliably executing multiple tasks with distinct motion requirements remains challenging for a shared policy. We introduce $\textbf{TOPS}$ ($\textbf{T}$ask-$\textbf{O}$riented $\textbf{P}$riors and $\textbf{S}$chedules), which adapts the flow source prior and interpolation schedule to each task without modifying the network architecture. TOPS first constructs multimodal task sources from reverse-mapped expert action sequences, allowing language instructions to select where generation begins. Guided by source-target covariance mismatch, it then slows the transition toward expert actions early in denoising and accelerates it later along directions requiring expansion. Under a $\textit{Gaussian}$ endpoint model, our analysis shows that this schedule adjustment can lower an upper bound on velocity-prediction risk. Experiments on LIBERO, LIBERO-Plus, and CALVIN demonstrate improved performance across in-distribution, perturbation and cross-environment settings, alongside better data efficiency. Using one integration step, TOPS raises LIBERO-10 success from $53.44\%$ to $69.67\%$ compared with ten-step Standard Flow Matching (FM), while reducing inference time to approximately one-sixth of the baseline. TOPS also yields consistent gains when transferred to the large-scale flow-based $π_{0.5}$ policy across all four evaluated settings. Real-world experiments further demonstrate improved task success, including an increase from $20\%$ with standard FM to $80\%$ with TOPS on the upper-drawer opening task.

Efficient Quantization Training with Stochastic Rounding via Structured Subspace Randomness

Zeyu Wang, Yiheng Duan, Tao Chen, Donghyun Koo, Sihan Liu, Wenbo Zhang, Chuan He, Liang Liu

Low-precision training often relies on stochastic rounding (SR) to keep quantized gradients unbiased and prevent small updates from rounding to zero. Standard SR draws an independent random threshold for every gradient element. However, accelerators generate random numbers on vector units whose throughput lags far behind their matrix units. Drawing one threshold per element saturates the vector unit and can make INT8 training with SR slower than BF16 training. Sharing random thresholds across tensor elements removes this cost but forces those elements to round in the same direction and shifts their rounding errors by a common offset. We find that this offset degrades training primarily through the activation gradient, which propagates the error backward into earlier layers. Because earlier layers cannot cancel an incoming offset using their own local rounding errors, the offset must be removed at the layer where it originates. We propose Structured Subspace Stochastic Rounding (S3R), which quantizes each upstream gradient once for both the activation and weight gradient matrix multiplications and shares a single threshold per token across the hidden dimension. Its error correction, S3R-EC, subtracts the structured mean rounding error from the activation and weight gradients while leaving the optimizer unchanged. In LLM pre-training experiments, uncorrected threshold sharing degrades convergence, whereas S3R-EC eliminates this degradation and matches the validation loss of independent SR. Furthermore, S3R-EC accelerates full INT8 training steps of dense LLMs on TPU v5p by 1.24x to 1.32x over BF16 and by 1.11x over independent SR.

GAUGE: Group-Wise View-Inconsistency Rectification for Feed-Forward 4D Tracking

Zhuoqian Feng, Weixing Chen, Ziliang Chen, Yang Liu, Liang Lin

Feed-forward models regress dense 3D point trajectories directly from monocular video, yet the residual after global alignment is substantial and lacks a structural explanation. Measured on dynamic query points across models and datasets, the error concentrates along the view direction, while the scale correction each motion group requires differs. The predicted displacement direction nevertheless supports reliable grouping, with a median angle far below the 90° random baseline. The systematic part of the residual is therefore a family of radial degrees of freedom per motion group, along directions 2D observations cannot constrain. We call it group-wise view inconsistency. We present GAUGE (Group-wise Adaptive Unsupervised Gauge Estimation), a training-free and model-agnostic post-hoc module. It recovers motion groups from direction consistency and spatial connectivity, then estimates a per-frame radial scale and group-level translation from 1% to 5% metric anchors, four degrees of freedom per group and frame. On dynamic query points of eight trackers, including D4RT, 4RC and SM4RT, our correction lowers endpoint error by 15.1% to 62.6% over the uncorrected predictions, while spending the same anchors on gradient fine-tuning improves the same models by only -1.1% to 15.2%. GRAFT: Geometry-Aware Residual Adaptation for Foundation Trackers

Liang Li, Guoyao Zhang, Xingyu Chen, Sikai Wu, Qianyang Wu, Yuhang Lin, Renjing Xu, Mingliang Zhou 等 9 位作者

Humanoid behavior foundation models (BFMs) provide reusable whole-body motion priors: given a kinematic reference, they generate coordinated joint commands for motion replay, teleoperation, and VLA control. However, trained primarily on flat-ground motion, BFMs lack an explicit mechanism to adapt foot placement, swing clearance, and contact timing to local terrain. Many terrain-aware BFM approaches address this limitation by retraining or fine-tuning the tracker together with perception, incurring substantial data and computation costs while coupling ordinary tracking to the perception pathway. To bridge this gap, we propose GRAFT, a geometry-aware residual adaptation framework for frozen behavior trackers. GRAFT preserves the BFM parameters and motion-reference interface, while a lightweight adapter adds terrain-conditioned corrections only to lower-body execution targets. The adapter is trained with task and foot-geometry rewards, regularized to suppress unnecessary corrections on flat ground, and distilled from privileged terrain observations to onboard depth. Because the frozen BFM already provides whole-body reference tracking and nominal locomotion, GRAFT reduces terrain learning to a focused execution-adaptation problem. We instantiate the framework on four frozen trackers and evaluate stairs, gaps, and platforms in simulation. We further validate it through real-world deployment on a Unitree G1, where the adapted SONIC tracker traverses terrain with onboard depth and unmodified references.

DART: Differentiable Dynamic Adaptive Region Tokenizer for Vision Foundation Models

Shicheng Yin, Kaixuan Yin, Yang Liu, Weixing Chen, Liang Lin

The content-agnostic, fixed-grid tokenizers used by standard large-scale vision models like Vision Transformer (ViT) and Vision Mamba (Vim) represent a fundamental performance bottleneck, creating a trade-off between capturing fine-grained detail and suffering from redundant computation. To resolve this dilemma, we introduce DART, a fully differentiable Dynamic Adaptive Region Tokenizer. DART employs learnable region scores and quantile-based partitioning to create content-aware patches of varying sizes, intelligently allocating a higher token density to information-rich regions. The impact of this approach is profound: it unlocks a more intelligent scaling paradigm, where a DART-equipped DeiT-Small (22M parameters) matches the performance of a DeiT-Base (86M) with nearly double the inference speed by efficiently capturing high-resolution details in key regions. Furthermore, the principle of adaptive tokenization proves its generality with clear benefits in dense prediction and spatiotemporal video tasks. We argue that by resolving the tokenizer bottleneck at its source, adaptive tokenization is a key component for building the next generation of more efficient and capable foundation models for multimodal AI, robotics, and content generation. Code is available at https://github.com/HCPLab-SYSU/DART.

Correct Prediction, Wrong Steps? Consensus Reasoning Knowledge Graph for Robust Chain-of-Thought Synthesis

Zipeng Ling, Shuliang Liu, Seonil Son, Shenghong Fu, Yuehao Tang, Yao Wan, Xuming Hu

Large language models (LLMs) have become increasingly used for various tasks, often coupled with Chain-of-Thought (CoT) prompting to boost accuracy. Recent work has shown that high label-prediction accuracy does not guarantee correct intermediate reasoning, and the causes of *reasoning flaws* vary from sample to sample, yet existing remedies either focus on a single domain or assume that one flaw type applies uniformly across samples. A simple mitigation method is to provide the model with the correct answer, but we show that this yields no consistent improvement in reasoning quality. This indicates that the problem cannot be fixed by LLMs' awareness of answers, and must instead be addressed through the *structure* of reasoning. Motivated by this, we propose CRAFT (Consensus Reasoning knowledge graph Aggregation for Flaw-aware Trace synthesis), which aggregates the consensus components shared across multiple candidate reasoning traces to synthesize improved ones. CRAFT consistently improves label-prediction accuracy on both logical and mathematical reasoning benchmarks, outperforming most baselines, while its post-processed traces achieve higher quality under fine-grained benchmark evaluation.

LLM Abstention Can Be a Prompt Artifact, in Addition to Genuine Uncertainty

Zipeng Ling, Shuliang Liu, Yuehao Tang, Junqi Yang, Shenghong Fu, Seonil Son, Chen Huang, Kejia Huang 等 11 位作者

Large Language Models (LLMs) are increasingly trained to abstain from answering questions they are unsure about. However, this ability is often misapplied: in real-world applications, user prompts sometimes contain elements of uncertainty, which lead LLMs to abstain even on problems they are capable of solving. We argue that LLM abstention is not only an expression of genuine uncertainty; it can also be an artifact largely shaped by prompts. We name this phenomenon *Abstention Inflation*. We add "Unknown" as an extra option for LLMs to choose from; experiments show serious accuracy drops on True/False Questions (TFQs). Replacing "Unknown" with an unrelated random word produces a similar effect. We argue that LLMs are trained to imitate the surface pattern of abstention, rather than to express genuine uncertainty. Based on ten experimental settings, we support four claims that form a progressive argument: **(C1)** *Abstention Inflation* can be triggered by the presence of an extra option, not by genuine uncertainty; **(C2)** it makes the models deny they can answer, even when they can; **(C3)** it is a later-layer output override, as the reasoning traces and mid-layer representations preserve correct answers; **(C4)** it is not stochastic noise: it results from various factors, emerges through instruction tuning, is boosted by problems' higher difficulty, and can be mitigated at larger model sizes.

RePO-VLA: Recovery-Driven Policy Optimization for Vision-Language-Action Models

Weijia Liufu, Xiaoyu Guo, Ruiyi Chen, Jingzhi Liu, Kaidong Zhang, Xiwen Liang, Jianqi Lin, Dawei Sun 等 19 位作者

Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models remain brittle in long-horizon, contact-rich manipulation because success-only imitation provides little supervision for execution drift, while failed rollouts are often discarded. We introduce RePO-VLA, a recovery-driven policy optimization framework that assigns distinct roles to success, recovery, and failure trajectories. RePO-VLA first applies Recovery-Aware Initialization (RAI), slicing each corrective suffix into a new episode so corrective actions depend on the current adverse state rather than the preceding failure. It then learns a Progress-Aware Semantic Value Function (PAS-VF), aligning spatiotemporal trajectory features with instructions and successful references. The resulting labels salvage useful failure prefixes via reliability decay, while low-value labels mark drift and terminal breakdowns, teaching differences among nominal, failed, and corrective actions. The data engine turns adverse states into planner-generated or human-collected corrective rollouts, teaching recovery to the success manifold. Value-Conditioned Refinement (VCR) trains the policy to prefer high-progress actions. At deployment, a fixed high-value token biases actions toward the learned success manifold without online failure detectors or heuristic retries. We introduce the Failure-Recovery Benchmark (FRBench), with standardized error injection and recovery-focused evaluation. Across simulated and real-world bimanual tasks, RePO-VLA improves robustness, raising adversarial success from 20% to 75% on average and up to 80% in scaled real-world trials. Code and video results are available at https://1018weijia.github.io/RePO-VLA-Web/.

A Unified Arena for LLM Agents across Diverse Eurogame

Fengrui Zhang, Xiang Li, Ruomeng Ding, Jiayi Yuan, Yuchen Huang, Zhaoyang Han, Xiaoliang Wang, Daoyuan Chen 等 9 位作者

Interactive environments offer a practical way to evaluate large language model (LLM) agents, and competitive games extend this evaluation to decisions shaped by competing goals and other agents' choices. Yet existing evaluations confined to individual games or execution frameworks leave unclear which competitive advantages persist across settings. We introduce DECE (Diverse Eurogame Competitive Environments), a unified arena spanning ten Eurogames with shared interfaces and evaluation protocols. These games combine lasting strategic commitments, competition over shared resources, and multiple routes to victory. Our primary study evaluates 12 model-harness configurations, spanning nine models and four execution harnesses, in 480 three-player matches across ten games. The main and supplementary studies comprise 1,032 completed matches in total. These comparisons reveal broad cross-game ranking agreement alongside game-specific strengths. Matched studies show that the same model can perform differently across execution harnesses, adding another source of variation to these profiles. These performance advantages do not consistently translate into better token or cost efficiency, making resource use an additional consideration when comparing configurations. Together, the findings support evaluating complete agent configurations by both their competitive performance across games and the resources needed to achieve it.

E0.5: From Reconstructive to Future-Predictive 3D Foundations for Robotic World-Action Modeling

X-Era AI Lab Team, :, Jianhao Lai, Zhihao Zhan, Zhiquan Liao, Qichang Li, Shubin Chen, Zhiyuan Liu 等 28 位作者

World-action models (WAMs) offer a promising framework for embodied intelligence, yet mainstream approaches remain centered on video foundation models or vision-language models. Even when geometric features extracted by 3D models such as VGGT are incorporated, they are typically passed into a video model or VLM that serves as the primary backbone, leaving 3D geometry as an auxiliary input or prediction target rather than the native foundation for world modeling. We present E0.5, a geometry-native world-action model built directly on 3D foundation models. E0.5 introduces two key innovations. First, it adopts a 3D foundation model as the primary backbone, making 3D geometry the native representation for both world modeling and action prediction. Second, it explicitly predicts future 3D states together with actions, enabling the model to capture geometric world dynamics beyond action-only modeling or future video prediction. Experiments on RoboTwin 2.0 first demonstrate the effectiveness of E0.5 without embodied-data pretraining, achieving success rates of 89.90\% and 50.09\% under clean and randomized settings, respectively. Building on these results, we further pretrain E0.5 on more than 160k robot trajectories from AgiBotWorld-Beta, jointly learning robot actions and future geometry within the pretrained 3D foundation. This embodied pretraining improves mean real-world manipulation success rates by approximately 15 and 7 percentage points on AgileX Piper and Zerith H1, respectively. Together, these results demonstrate the potential of geometry-native foundations to acquire robot interaction knowledge and transfer it to physical manipulation. E0.5 embodies this geometry-native approach as a member of the VWA family of world-action models.

Unbiased Alignment for Large Language Models with Noisy Preferences

Jialiang Wang, Xianming Liu, Xiong Zhou, Hui Liu, Haoliang Li

The alignment of large language models with human preferences is commonly achieved through Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback or Direct Preference Optimization. However, these methods are vulnerable to the significant noise prevalent in real-world preference datasets. To address this critical issue, we present a theoretical framework for unbiased alignment, introducing the Unbiased Reward Model (URM) loss and the Unbiased Direct Preference Optimization (UDPO) loss. By mathematically correcting the distortion induced by preference noise, our novel objectives enable unbiased model training directly from noisy datasets, without requiring clean ground-truth supervision. We provide rigorous theoretical analyses demonstrating that our methods are noise-tolerant, parameter downward compatible, and classification-calibrated. Comprehensive experiments across diverse datasets demonstrate that our approaches outperform state-of-the-art baselines. Code available at: https://github.com/cswjl/unbiased-alignment.

Geometric Gain Graph: Zero-Token Graph Construction for Multi-Hop RAG

Zeliang Li, Xiaofen Xing, Kailing Guo, Wenyu Tao, Xiangmin Xu

Existing Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) systems struggle with multi-hop reasoning due to a fundamental inability to balance relevance and novelty. Traditional dense retrievers are constrained by surface-level matching, falling into a homogenized "Similarity Trap". Conversely, emerging Graph RAGs attempt to explore novel documents via heuristic entity extraction, but they introduce prohibitive Large Language Model (LLM) overhead and easily drift into off-topic "Novelty Traps". To fundamentally resolve this contradiction, we propose Geometric Gain Graph (G$^3$RAG), the novel zero-token graph construction paradigm for RAG. G$^3$RAG completely discards the expensive heuristic extraction by LLMs, aiming instead to directly quantify the information gain between nodes through the native document feature space. To this end, we designed a concise edge weight criterion, $\cosθ\cdot \sinθ$, which naturally maps the trade-off between relevance and novelty into a geometric measurement of directional consistency and orthogonality in the vector space, thereby driving the token-free topological construction of the graph. Furthermore, we introduce a topological penalty to suppress the excessive connectivity of high-frequency hubs, forcing the transient diffusion process toward long-tail peripheral nodes that carry critical indirect evidence. Extensive experiments demonstrate that, while entirely eliminating LLM token costs during graph construction, G$^3$RAG significantly outperforms state-of-the-art Graph RAG baselines on complex multi-hop QA benchmarks. The code is available at: https://github.com/deeplearning-LI/G3RAG

LongSearchEval: Evaluating Long-Horizon Web Search Capabilities of Large Language Models via a Trajectory-Aware Agent Framework with Failure-Node Localization

Jialiang Liu, Shusheng Li, Wenjun Tan

Long-horizon web search requires LLM-based agents to integrate information across web pages through extended interactions under task-specific constraints. Evaluating this capability is important not only for measuring final answer quality, but also for assessing whether an agent acquires, verifies, and uses evidence reliably over extended interactions. Existing evaluations, however, mainly rely on simulated trajectories or on post-hoc trajectories reconstructed from final answers, rather than on retained real interaction traces, which limits the fidelity of behavioral assessment and weakens support for fine-grained error localization. To address this gap, we introduce LONGSEARCHEVAL, a trajectory-aware agent evaluation framework that combines a unified agent execution protocol with source constrained outcome verification and retrospective failure-node localization. Stage 1 verifies answer groups against agent-cited webpages without human-authored gold answers; Stage 2 audits normalized rounds and links flagged failure nodes to incorrect answer groups. We evaluate 16 models from eight families on 100 tasks, yielding 1,600 retained runs and 6,545 automatically flagged failure nodes. Trajectory collection and evaluation required 1,037 and 318 hours of cumulative runtime, respectively. Human validation yields 94.50% agreement on supplied answer-group labels and 98.11% feature-correspondence precision for audited round-group links. Together, outcome scores and linked trajectory evidence support controlled model comparison and retrospective inspection of answer-related content.

SpatialCLI: Learning to Reason With Spatial Tools, Then Without Them

Yang Zhou, Zixuan Huang, Sunzhu Li, Zhuo Yang, Chen Zhang, Shunian Chen, Caijun Yan, Jianyao Xu 等 13 位作者

Vision-language models (VLMs) are increasingly used in embodied agents to interpret visual inputs, reason about spatial relationships, and make task-level decisions based on that reasoning. However, a fundamental capability mismatch remains: general VLMs can reason about the overall task but often miss the visual details that determine success, while specialist vision models can capture those details but cannot translate them into task-level decisions. In this work, we propose SpatialCLI, a framework that teaches VLMs to reason with spatial tools and progressively internalize the specialist perceptual capabilities they provide. SpatialCLI proceeds in three stages: (1) Call exposes specialist vision models as spatial tools to augment the VLM's perception; (2) Learn uses Cold-Start SFT and agentic RL to improve tool use; and (3) Internalize verbalizes successful tool-use trajectories to internalize specialist perceptual capabilities. We further introduce SpatialCLI-Bench, a 516-example benchmark for compositional perception across localization, segmentation, depth, and pose. On MindCube, SpatialCLI raises Qwen3-VL-8B-Instruct from 29.3% to 84.6% with tools, surpassing GPT-5.6 Sol with tools (72.1%), while retaining 73.8% without tools after internalization.

VLA models have emerged as the mainstream for embodied intelligence, which decouples reasoning and execution via action chunks. To enable real-time deployment of VLA models, existing studies investigate edge-cloud collaborative inference, which pose two challenges to the action chunk mechanism. (1) Edge-cloud collaboration complicates system latency components, hindering the determination of valid ranges for action chunks. (2) Latency fluctuations in cross-edge update links under edge-cloud scenarios make it difficult to schedule replanning requests. To address these, we analyze the key factors affecting action chunk usable ranges and replanning request timing, revealing phase dependence and edge-cloud latency constraints. Based on these insights, we propose ActECC, which enables Action Chunk Temporal Harnessing through kinematics-guided usable range assessment and delay-aware replanning scheduling. Experiments show that ActECC reduces per-action latency by up to 27.4% and cloud calls by up to 45.1%, while lowering average execution error compared with existing edge-cloud collaborative.

Discovering and Reasoning of Causality in the Hidden World with Large Language Models

Chenxi Liu, Yongqiang Chen, Tongliang Liu, Mingming Gong, James Cheng, Bo Han, Kun Zhang

Revealing hidden causal variables alongside the underlying causal mechanisms is essential to the development of science. Despite the progress in the past decades, existing practice in causal discovery (CD) heavily relies on high-quality measured variables, which are usually given by human experts. In fact, the lack of well-defined high-level variables behind unstructured data has been a longstanding roadblock to a broader real-world application of CD. This procedure can naturally benefit from an automated process that can suggest potential hidden variables in the system. Interestingly, Large language models (LLMs) are trained on massive observations of the world and have demonstrated great capability in processing unstructured data. To leverage the power of LLMs, we develop a new framework termed Causal representatiOn AssistanT (COAT) that incorporates the rich world knowledge of LLMs to propose useful measured variables for CD with respect to high-value target variables on their paired unstructured data. Instead of directly inferring causality with LLMs, COAT constructs feedback from intermediate CD results to LLMs to refine the proposed variables. Given the target variable and the paired unstructured data, we first develop COAT-MB that leverages the predictivity of the proposed variables to iteratively uncover the Markov Blanket of the target variable. Built upon COAT-MB, COAT-PAG further extends to uncover a more complete causal graph, i.e., Partial Ancestral Graph, by iterating over the target variables and actively seeking new high-level variables. Moreover, the reliable CD capabilities of COAT also extend the debiased causal inference to unstructured data by discovering an adjustment set. We establish theoretical guarantees for the CD results and verify their efficiency and reliability across realistic benchmarks and real-world case studies.

Think Parallax: Solving Multi-Hop Problems via Multi-View Knowledge-Graph-Based Retrieval-Augmented Generation

Jinliang Liu, Jiale Bai, Shaoning Zeng

Large language models (LLMs) still struggle with multi-hop reasoning over knowledge-graphs (KGs), and we identify a previously overlooked structural reason for this difficulty: Transformer attention heads naturally specialize in distinct semantic relations across reasoning stages, forming a hop-aligned relay pattern. This key finding suggests that multi-hop reasoning is inherently multi-view, yet existing KG-based retrieval-augmented generation (KG-RAG) systems collapse all reasoning hops into a single representation, flat embedding space, suppressing this implicit structure and causing noisy or drifted path exploration. We introduce ParallaxRAG, a symmetric multi-view framework that decouples queries and KGs into aligned, head-specific semantic spaces. By enforcing relational diversity across multiple heads while constraining weakly related paths, ParallaxRAG constructs more accurate, cleaner subgraphs and guides LLMs through grounded, hop-wise reasoning. On WebQSP and CWQ, it achieves state-of-the-art retrieval and QA performance, substantially reduces hallucination, and generalizes strongly to the biomedical BioASQ benchmark.

Large language models (LLMs) exhibit substantial variability in performance and computational cost across tasks and queries, motivating routing systems that select models to meet user-specific cost–performance trade-offs. However, existing routers generalize poorly in cold-start scenarios where in-domain training data is unavailable. We address this limitation with a multi-level task-profile–guided data synthesis framework that constructs a hierarchical task taxonomy and produces diverse question–answer pairs to approximate the test-time query distribution. Building on this, we introduce TRouter, a task-type–aware router approach that models query-conditioned cost and performance via latent task-type variables, with prior regularization derived from the synthesized task taxonomy. This design enhances TRouter’s routing utility under both cold-start and in-domain settings. Across multiple benchmarks, we show that our synthesis framework alleviates cold-start issues and that TRouter delivers effective LLM routing.

Causal2Vec: Improving Decoder-only LLMs as Embedding Models through a Contextual Token

Ailiang Lin, Zhuoyun Li, Yusong Wang Institute of Science Tokyo, Kotaro Funakoshi Institute of Science Tokyo, Manabu Okumura

Decoder-only large language models (LLMs) have been increasingly adopted to build embedding models for diverse tasks. To overcome the inherent limitations of causal attention in representation learning, many existing methods modify the attention mechanism to be bidirectional, potentially undermining LLMs’ ability to extract semantic information acquired during pre-training. Meanwhile, leading unidirectional approaches often rely on extra input text to generate contextualized embeddings, inevitably increasing computational costs. In this work, we propose Causal2Vec, a general-purpose embedding model tailored to enhance the performance of decoder-only LLMs without altering their original architectures or introducing significant computational overhead. Specifically, we first employ a lightweight BERT-style model to pre-encode the input text into a single Contextual token, which is then prepended to the LLM’s input sequence, allowing each token to capture contextualized information even without attending to future tokens. Furthermore, to mitigate the recency bias introduced by last-token pooling, we concatenate the last hidden states of Contextual and EOS tokens as the final text embedding. In practice, Causal2Vec achieves a new state-of-the-art performance on the MTEB benchmark among models trained solely on publicly available retrieval datasets.

Draft, Verify, Restore: Self-Refining Historical Inscription Restoration with a Unified MLLM

Yuyi Zhang South China University of Technology, Junle Liu, Peirong Zhang, Jianliang Liu South China University of Technology, Zhenhua Yang, Lianwen Jin

Inscriptions are invaluable cultural heritage, yet centuries of degradation (e.g., fractures, erosion, oxidation) have rendered many partially illegible. Existing Historical Inscription Restoration (HIR) methods rely on task-separated pipelines with irreversible error accumulation and patch-based generation that sacrifices page-level consistency. Therefore, we present UniHIR, the first unified MLLM for end-to-end historical inscription restoration. It integrates two novel designs, Draft-Guided Localization and Hierarchical Self-Refinement, to enable accurate damage localization and illegible-content prediction via iterative reasoning and self-correction. This unified approach enables true page-level restoration with consistent typography and style. To support training under high-resolution inputs and long sequences, we design UHIRFactory and construct HIRBench, enabling step-wise, memory-efficient instruction tuning with step-aware annotations for intermediate drafts and refinements. Experiments demonstrate that UniHIR achieves superior performance in both text restoration accuracy and appearance restoration quality, validating that HIR can be effectively tackled by a standalone model in a unified manner. The model and code are available at https://github.com/ZZXF11/UniHIR.

Whether Large Language Models (LLMs) truly possess human-like Theory of Mind (ToM) capabilities has garnered increasing attention. However, existing benchmarks remain largely restricted to narrow paradigms like false belief tasks, failing to capture the full spectrum of human cognitive mechanisms. We introduce CogToM, a comprehensive, theoretically grounded benchmark comprising over 8000 bilingual instances across 46 paradigms, validated by 49 human annotators. A systematic evaluation of 22 representative models, including frontier models like GPT-5.1 and Qwen3-Max, reveals significant performance heterogeneities and highlights persistent bottlenecks in specific dimensions. Further analysis based on human cognitive patterns suggests potential divergences between LLM and human cognitive structures. CogToM offers a robust instrument and perspective for investigating the evolving cognitive boundaries of LLMs. We release our code and data at https://github.com/Beijing-AISI/CogToM.

MUSEG: Reinforcing Video Temporal Understanding via Timestamp-Aware Multi-Segment Grounding

Fuwen Luo, Shengfeng Lou, Chi Chen, Ziyue Wang Tsinghua University, Tsinghua University, Chenliang Li Alibaba Group, Weizhou Shen, Jiyue Guo, Peng Li Tsinghua University 等 12 位作者

Video temporal understanding is crucial for multimodal large language models (MLLMs) to reason over events in videos. Despite recent advances in general video understanding, current MLLMs still struggle with fine-grained temporal reasoning. While reinforcement learning (RL) has been explored to address this issue recently, existing RL approaches remain limited in performance on time-sensitive tasks. In this work, we propose MUSEG, a novel RL-based method that enhances temporal understanding by introducing timestamp-aware multi-segment grounding. MUSEG enables MLLMs to align queries with multiple relevant video segments, promoting more comprehensive temporal reasoning. To facilitate effective learning, we design a customized RL training recipe with phased rewards that progressively guides the model toward temporally grounded reasoning. Extensive experiments on temporal grounding and time-sensitive video question answering (QA) tasks demonstrate that MUSEG significantly outperforms existing methods and generalizes well across diverse temporal understanding scenarios.

Vision-Language Introspection: Mitigating Overconfident Hallucinations in MLLMs via Interpretable Bi-Causal Steering

Shuliang Liu, Songbo Yang, Dong Fang LIGHTSPEED STUDIOS, Sihang Jia The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Yuqi Tang, Lingfeng Su Independent researcher, Ruoshui Peng The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Yibo Yan The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and Alibaba 等 10 位作者

Object hallucination critically undermines the reliability of Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs), often stemming from a fundamental failure in cognitive introspection—where models blindly trust linguistic priors over specific visual evidence. Existing mitigations remain limited: contrastive decoding approaches operate superficially without rectifying internal semantic misalignments, while current latent steering methods rely on static vectors that lack instance-specific precision. We introduce Vision-Language Introspection (VLI), a training-free inference framework that simulates a metacognitive self-correction process. VLI first performs Attributive Introspection to diagnose hallucination risks via probabilistic conflict detection and localize the causal visual anchors. It then employs Interpretable Bi-Causal Steering to actively modulate the inference process, dynamically isolating visual evidence from background noise while neutralizing blind confidence through adaptive calibration. VLI achieves state-of-the-art performance on advanced models, reducing object hallucination rates by 12.67% on MMHal-Bench and improving accuracy by 5.8% on POPE.
