Reinforcement learning (RL) has become a standard post-training method for diffusion models, but most RL objectives roll out the current policy at every iteration, and with a many-step sampler these rollouts typically dominate the cost of training. Few-step models cut this cost, yet they model an average velocity over an interval, whereas existing RL objectives are built for an instantaneous velocity with a many-step sampler. We adapt RL objectives to few-step models systematically in three phases, namely a transformation, a decomposition and an adaptation. The transformation to $x$-space expresses each objective we consider through a common policy prediction, at the clean end by default and at an explicitly marked level for transition or flow-map objectives, so that objectives stated over densities, velocities or rewards become comparable. The decomposition writes the gradient of each of these objectives as the sum of a self-regression toward a reference and a reward augmentation, so that a method reduces, at the gradient level, to a choice of anchors and weights. The adaptation computes each anchor from a few-step model at the end of its transport or along its tangent, with the instantaneous velocity recovered from the network itself or from an auxiliary network. This yields few-step versions of FlowGRPO, AWM, DiffusionNFT, DiffusionOPSD and ReFL in one modular codebase. In our experiments, reward-gradient-based methods are the most effective when the reward is differentiable and its gradient is affordable; otherwise DiffusionNFT-style methods generally reach high rewards in relatively few iterations despite a sometimes higher per-iteration cost. Extra inference steps show no systematic aggregate benefit in our experiments, although selected outputs visibly improve with two to four times as many sampling steps as in training.

原文摘要

Drug discovery requires continuous scientific decision-making across a vast research space. We introduce PharmAgents2, an autonomous system for end-to-end drug discovery that combines knowledge-enhanced decision-making with organized large-scale exploration. Paper2Skill extracts transferable scientific decision knowledge from public sources and, together with expert-developed skills, supports research decisions. Self-Scaling Discovery expands exploration through parallel agents inheriting research context and decision-making capabilities across targets, scientific hypotheses, and discovery strategies. We introduce PharmAgents-Bench v0.1, comprising 121 questions across nine decision scenarios and three end-to-end tasks assessed with expert-defined process rubrics. PharmAgents2 outperforms evaluated baselines in most decision categories and achieves the highest process scores on all three end-to-end tasks. In three real-world studies, autonomous investigations generated findings subsequently supported by human-executed experiments. For LpxH, PharmAgents2 hypothesized a previously unreported allosteric site and screened compounds against it, identifying a novel inhibitor scaffold with experimentally confirmed inhibitory activity and binding. For JAK1, it prioritized a covalent inhibition strategy and nominated compounds with experimentally demonstrated activity. Starting from a known bioactive molecule, Self-Scaling Discovery explored candidate targets across the proteome and identified a new binding target, with the interaction subsequently confirmed experimentally. PharmAgents2 represents a prototype of a virtual pharmaceutical company, marking a step toward autonomous end-to-end drug discovery.

Learning Optimal Lattice Vector Quantizers for End-to-end Neural Image Compression

Xi Zhang, Xiaolin Wu

原文摘要

It is customary to deploy uniform scalar quantization in the end-to-end optimized Neural image compression methods, instead of more powerful vector quantization, due to the high complexity of the latter. Lattice vector quantization (LVQ), on the other hand, presents a compelling alternative, which can exploit inter-feature dependencies more effectively while keeping computational efficiency almost the same as scalar quantization. However, traditional LVQ structures are designed/optimized for uniform source distributions, hence nonadaptive and suboptimal for real source distributions of latent code space for Neural image compression tasks. In this paper, we propose a novel learning method to overcome this weakness by designing the rate-distortion optimal lattice vector quantization (OLVQ) codebooks with respect to the sample statistics of the latent features to be compressed. By being able to better fit the LVQ structures to any given latent sample distribution, the proposed OLVQ method improves the rate-distortion performances of the existing quantization schemes in neural image compression significantly, while retaining the amenability of uniform scalar quantization. NightIQA: A Comprehensive Dataset and Benchmark for MLLM-Based Nighttime Image Quality Assessment

Yiding Tian, Jiaojiao Yi, Jiayuan Lu, Pufan Xu, Jinlin Wu, Changyuan Wen, Hongyuan Yu

原文摘要

Nighttime images are inherently susceptible to complex, compound degradations, making accurate quality assessment exceptionally challenging. Score-based IQA methods condense quality into a single number, lacking the multi-dimensional, language-grounded reasoning required for nighttime evaluation. Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) offer a more comprehensive alternative, yet remain constrained by a critical data gap: existing real-world IQA datasets are overwhelmingly daytime-centric and often built from outdated captures, while synthetic alternatives lack nighttime-specific degradation modeling, yielding artifacts far removed from authentic nighttime conditions. To bridge this gap, we present NightIQA, a dataset and benchmark suite purpose-built for MLLM-based nighttime IQA. It comprises three core components: NightIQA-Real, a real-world dataset of 1,769 high-resolution images that we captured ourselves with modern equipment, encompassing six canonical distortion types and structured multi-dimensional annotations; NightIQA-Bench, a benchmark of 1,078 visually grounded multiple-choice questions tailored to MLLM-based nighttime IQA, organized around a four-level evaluation hierarchy spanning Perception, Technical Assessment, Localization, and Reasoning; and NightIQA-Syn, an inherently scalable, scene-aware synthesis pipeline that jointly models global-level and instance-level degradations, with an initial release of 80k high-fidelity images alongside the full generation code. Fine-tuned on NightIQA with Supervised Fine-Tuning (SFT) and Group Relative Policy Optimization (GRPO), Qwen3-VL-8B outperforms open-source IQA methods and achieves higher overall accuracy than leading closed-source models, highlighting the value of domain-specific data and structured supervision.

Beyond Single-Episode Optimization: Sliding-Window Aware Generative Auto-Bidding for Long-Term Advertising Effectiveness

Binglin Wu, Chuan Yue, Yingyi Zhang, Xianneng Li, Ruyue Deng, Weiru Zhang, Xiaoyi Zeng

原文摘要

Auto-bidding systems optimize bids to maximize value under efficiency constraints such as Cost-Per-Action (CPA). Existing methods treat each day as an independent episode. However, many advertisers produce value so sparsely that per-day efficiency ratios become statistically unreliable, undermining advertiser retention. Platforms therefore evaluate window-level efficiency over sliding windows of $W{=}7$ days, ensuring fair evaluation and long-term advertising effectiveness. This creates cross-episode coupling: each day's bidding decisions affect up to $W$ overlapping windows, so setting daily targets requires anticipating future market conditions. We propose SWAG-Bid (Sliding-Window Aware Generative Auto-Bidding), a hierarchical framework decomposing this challenge into episode-level planning and step-level execution. The planner uses a Masked Trajectory Model to forecast markets and generate candidate plans, scored across all overlapping windows by Multi-Window Model Predictive Control Sampling (MWMS) with exponential confidence decay. The controller adjusts reliance on this guidance through a state-adaptive gate, Per-Step Gated Adaptive Layer Normalization (PSG-AdaLN), complemented by Return-to-Go and Cost-to-Go channels carrying budget and constraint information. Experiments on AuctionNet-Sparse and online A/B tests on AliExpress show that SWAG-Bid achieves competitive constraint satisfaction and value acquisition under sliding-window evaluation.

ENGINE: Endogenous Variational MultiScale Optimization for Zeroth-Order LLM Fine-Tuning

Zhuoli Ouyang, Changxi Chi, Siyuan Li, Tailin Wu

原文摘要

Zeroth-order (ZO) optimization enables memory-efficient large language model (LLM) fine-tuning, and recent methods incorporate curvature-aware strategies. However, in the high-dimensional parameter space of LLMs, these methods inherently suffer from exploding gradient variance and prohibitive costs. Conversely, confining updates to a low-dimensional subspace reduces variance but discards critical high-dimensional information, degrading performance. This creates a fundamental dilemma: full-space optimization is informative but has high variance, while subspace optimization has low variance but loses information. To break this trade-off, we propose ENGINE (Endogenous Variational MultiScale). Inspired by computational mechanics, we adapt static Variational MultiScale (VMS) theory to dynamic optimization, treating low- and high-dimensional spaces as resolved coarse and unresolved fine scales. Through a multigrid-style V-cycle, ENGINE alternates between spaces, dynamically probing fine-grained information in the high-dimensional space and injecting it to correct the efficient low-dimensional sampling process. Under appropriate assumptions, statistical analysis characterizes variance reduction and correction of curvature-induced bias, and convergence analysis establishes a stationarity bound for the corrected coarse updates. Evaluations on standard LLM benchmarks show that ENGINE achieves higher accuracy and faster convergence than existing ZO methods, achieving up to a $2.61\times$ speed-up in forward passes with zero additional peak memory overhead. Trajectory-Aware Policy Optimization: Closing the State Distribution Gap in Long-Horizon LLM RL

Zhicheng Cai, Hanlin Wu, Weinan Dai, Yuyan Zhou, Wei-Ying Ma, Ya-Qin Zhang, Hao Zhou

原文摘要

Reinforcement learning (RL) has become a dominant paradigm for enhancing LLMs' reasoning capabilities. Yet long-horizon autoregressive rollouts introduce a fundamental limitation: local policy mismatch can compound into severe state distribution shift over trajectories. Existing LLM RL methods, such as GRPO and GSPO, control policy mismatch at the token or sequence level, but overlook this trajectory-induced shift, causing training instability and eventual collapse as the horizon grows. To close the state distribution gap, we propose Trajectory-Aware Policy Optimization (TAPO), a principled framework that theoretically derives the state-distribution correction from the off-policy policy gradient and incorporates it into the RL objective. TAPO further employs a geometric-mean estimator for variance reduction, together with a length-aware dynamic clipping that prevents overly deviated updates across the trajectory. Extensive experiments demonstrate that TAPO significantly surpasses existing LLM RL algorithms across eight competition-level benchmarks, achieving up to 48% and 12% improvement over GRPO on mathematical reasoning and algorithmic coding, with substantially enhanced training stability.

Ranking Function Generation with LLMs for Termination

Rongkang Li, Jiaxin Hu, Taolue Chen, Yong Li, Fu Song, Zhilin Wu

原文摘要

Ranking functions are a fundamental technique for proving loop termination, but constructing them manually is challenging and requires substantial expertise. We propose RAINFALL, a neuro-symbolic framework which follows the generate-verify-refine paradigm and tightly integrates LLMs with symbolic verification. RAINFALL formulates ranking function synthesis as a code-completion task by inserting placeholders into the input program and constraining the LLM to fill four predefined slots for each loop. The completed program is then checked by a symbolic verifier. If verification succeeds, a valid ranking function is obtained; otherwise, the verifier's diagnostics are translated into natural-language feedback that guides iterative refinement of the LLM's output. We evaluate RAINFALL on two public benchmark suites comprising 358 terminating C programs. Using MiniMax V2.7, RAINFALL synthesizes verifiable ranking functions for 323 programs (90.22%), outperforming all promising baselines. In particular, it solves 12 more programs than PROTON 2.1, the best-performing baseline and winner of the SV-COMP 2026 Termination category. Furthermore, combining RAINFALL with PROTON 2.1 increases the success rate to 96.65% (346/358 programs). We also conduct ablation study confirming individual contributions of placeholder contracts, few-shot examples, symbolic verification, and diagnostic information feedback. Experiments across LLMs further confirm the effectiveness of RAINFALL. Our results suggest a generic, sound framework for ranking-function synthesis and, beyond termination, LLM-assisted synthesis of formally checkable liveness certificates, both of which represent new directions of software engineering research.

原文摘要

The scalability of high-quality online education is hindered by the high costs and slow cycles of manual content creation.Despite advancements in video generation, current approaches often fail to ensure pedagogical structure and precise control due to their pixel-level, black-box nature. In this paper, we propose Generative Teaching, a novel paradigm shifting educators from manual creators to high-level directors who focus on pedagogical intents while agents handle the execution. To realize this vision, we introduce TeachMaster, a multi-agent framework that leverages code as an intermediate semantic medium. Unlike traditional video generation methods, TeachMaster orchestrates a collaborative team of agents, spanning planning, design, and rendering, to automate the production of interpretable, editable, and curriculum-ready educational videos. Experiments validate that TeachMaster significantly boosts production efficiency without compromising structural coherence or visual fidelity, slashing production costs to only 0.3% of traditional online course videos and providing a robust solution for scalable education.

原文摘要

Existing long-horizon memory benchmarks mostly use multi-turn dialogues or synthetic user histories, which makes retrieval performance an imperfect proxy for person understanding. We present Knowme-Bench, a publicly releasable benchmark built from long-form autobiographical narratives, where actions, context, and inner thoughts provide dense evidence for inferring stable motivations and decision principles. Knowme-Bench reconstructs each narrative into a flashback-aware, time-anchored stream and evaluates models with evidence-linked questions spanning factual recall, subjective state attribution, and principle-level reasoning. Across diverse narrative sources, retrieval-augmented systems mainly improve factual accuracy, while errors persist on temporally grounded explanations and higher-level inferences, highlighting the need for memory mechanisms beyond retrieval.
