ASTRA-bench: Evaluating Tool-Use Agent Reasoning and Action Planning with Personal User Context

原文摘要

Next-generation AI must manage vast personal data, diverse tools, and multi-step reasoning, yet most benchmarks remain context-free and single-turn. We present ASTRA-bench (Assistant Skills in Tool-use, Reasoning \& Action-planning), a benchmark that uniquely unifies time-evolving personal context with an interactive toolbox and complex user intents. Our event-driven pipeline generates 2,413 scenarios across four protagonists, grounded in longitudinal life events and annotated by referential, functional, and informational complexity. Evaluation of state-of-the-art models (e.g., Claude-4.5-Opus, DeepSeek-V3.2) reveals significant performance degradation under high-complexity conditions, with argument generation emerging as the primary bottleneck. These findings expose critical limitations in current agents' ability to ground reasoning within messy personal context and orchestrate reliable multi-step plans. We release ASTRA-bench with a full execution environment and evaluation scripts to provide a diagnostic testbed for developing truly context-aware AI assistants.

MuLaCover: Flexible Cover Song Generation via Symbolic Tonal Control

原文摘要

A cover song re-renders an existing piece, most commonly by preserving its tonal content -- melody and chord progression -- while reshaping other musical attributes. This suggests a natural formulation for generative cover synthesis with pretrained music language models: explicitly control tonal content, while specifying lyrics and style through text. Existing approaches condition on frame-level features, tightly coupling generation to the reference's timing and structure, and limiting flexibility such as tempo variation, structural rearrangement, or partial conditioning. To this end, we present MuLaCover, a cover generation model that conditions a pretrained text-to-song foundation model on an editable symbolic lead sheet. Our design enables alignment-free control: generated outputs preserve the tonal signature of the source without frame-level alignment, allowing flexible timing, structure, and segment-level generation. We further introduce a training curriculum with partially mismatched audio-symbolic pairs, improving diversity and robustness. We evaluate MuLaCover with objective metrics, standard subjective ratings, and in-depth expert interviews that provide fine-grained diagnostic insights. Experiments show that MuLaCover achieves state-of-the-art performance among open-source systems and is competitive with leading commercial models such as Suno-v5.5. ViSSFlow: Unifying Video-Conditioned Sound and Speech Generation via Joint Learning

原文摘要

Video-conditioned audio generation, including Video-to-Sound (V2S) and Visual Text-to-Speech (VisualTTS), has traditionally been studied as two separate tasks despite their shared objective of generating audio conditioned on visual content. Existing methods rely on task-specific architectures and training paradigms, while the possibility of a unified generative framework remains largely unexplored due to heterogeneous conditioning signals and limited joint training data. In this paper, we propose ViSSFlow, a unified flow-matching framework for both V2S and VisualTTS. To effectively integrate diverse conditioning modalities within a Diffusion Transformer (DiT), we introduce a disentangled condition aggregation mechanism that exploits the complementary roles of attention layers, using cross-attention to model semantic conditions and self-attention to capture temporally dense visual cues. Furthermore, contrary to the common assumption that joint optimization of V2S and VisualTTS causes task interference, we show that a single model can be trained end-to-end without sacrificing task-specific performance. To address the scarcity of paired training data covering both sound and speech generation, we further propose a simple yet effective feature-level data synthesis strategy that enables robust joint learning. Extensive experiments on V2S, VisualTTS, and joint generation benchmarks demonstrate that ViSSFlow consistently outperforms state-of-the-art task-specific baselines while providing a unified solution for video-conditioned audio generation. Code and demos are provided in Supplementary Material.

Putting Captions to the Test: Evaluating Video Caption Quality through Multiple-Choice Question Answering

原文摘要

Evaluating video captioning remains a critical challenge for Visual Large Language Models (VLLMs). Existing metrics primarily rely on matching generated text against ground-truth references. This paradigm suffers from the “one-to-many” nature of video description, where high-quality captions are often penalized for lexical mismatches or valid shifts in visual focus. Furthermore, such assessments are typically one-dimensional, failing to provide a fine-grained analysis of caption quality. To address this, we redefine caption quality through the lens of information fidelity: A caption must maximize the coverage of salient visual information while ensuring strict factuality. We introduce CapQuiz, a novel reference-free benchmark that assesses captions based on their utility in answering human-verified, fine-grained, multiple-choice questions derived from the video. CapQuiz features a hierarchical taxonomy of 10 question types (spanning Descriptive and Inferential categories) across 24 diverse video domains. Extensive experiments demonstrate that CapQuiz correlates significantly better with human judgments than existing metrics and offers interpretable insights into model performance. We will release the benchmark to facilitate reproducible research.
