LibriSpeech-Real-QA: A Benchmark for Streaming Question Answering

原文摘要

Most speech large language models (SLMs) still process speech in an offline manner. They only start responding after they receive the complete speech segment. However, many real-world applications require streaming speech interaction, for which the audio continuously flows in and the machine is required to answer questions based on the so far received audio chunks. For example, a user may ask the system to continuously count how many times a person's name has been mentioned while they are speaking. We observe a lack of benchmarks and evaluation protocols for real-time speech interaction. Motivated by this, we propose LibriSpeech-Real-QA, a dataset and a benchmark for real-time speech interaction. We construct different types of real-time question-answer pairs from LibriSpeech to evaluate whether speech LLMs can identify target words in streaming audio. We evaluate several popular real-time commercial models and find that they still tend to respond only after the speech turn has finished. We demonstrate that we can enable a pretrained SLM to perform this task, where we explore several modeling designs and establish a solid baseline for future research.

UMLoad: Fast On-Demand Model Loading on Unified Memory Architecture

Zimeng Wang, Jinrong Yang, Rong Chen

原文摘要

On-demand model loading dominates response latency for interactive on-device AI, yet unified memory architectures (UMAs), now common on edge devices, should make it cheap by placing weights in memory the GPU already sees. However, frameworks still use the loading flow built for discrete GPUs, leaving significant inefficiencies. This paper presents UMLoad, a system-level model-loading accelerator that decouples a framework's logical allocations from their physical page backing. UMLoad uses on-demand reconstruction to eliminate the weight copy while preserving copy independence, and GPU-assisted page zeroing to accelerate runtime allocation while preserving its security guarantee. Implemented on Intel, AMD, and NVIDIA UMA platforms and evaluated with llama$.$cpp, PyTorch, and vLLM across six models, UMLoad reduces average loading time by 36.6%-71.9% over vanilla and 19.9%-62.7% over pipelined loaders, and cuts mean LLM-routing time to first token (TTFT) by 51.3%-59.3% and model-backed tool completion latency by 10.2%-31.6%.

PROSE: Preservation-Constrained Selective Editing for Guilty Bias in Legal Judgment Prediction

原文摘要

Legal judgment prediction models may retain a guilty verdict after a legally decisive condition has been altered such that the specified charge is no longer established. We study this guilty bias via selective repair over matched charge-established and charge-not-established cases, where the unsupported verdict should change while its supported counterpart remains stable. We construct CAIL-MC, a legally reviewed dataset of 11,478 matched pairs covering 261 Chinese criminal charges. Held-out activation interventions show that contrasts learned from correctly resolved pairs transfer to false-guilty cases, but target-reaching interventions can also damage matched supported-guilty decisions. Motivated by this observation, we introduce PROSE, which reconstructs case-specific targets from a training-derived residual geometry, aligns them with a local margin-descent signal, attenuates supported-guilty-sensitive components, and realizes bounded targets through a preservation-regularized low-rank parameter update. Across Qwen3-8B and GLM4-9B, PROSE achieves stronger pairwise safe repair and evidence sensitivity, while preserving standard single-pass inference.

Disentangling Dual Image References in Frequency Aware Diffusion Models for Personalized Generation

Haipeng Liu, Yang Wang, Meng Wang

原文摘要

Personalized image generation aims to synthesize text-driven images conditioned on reference images, while mainly casting the generation as image customization for foreground and style transfer for background. Previous arts of diffusion models suffers from the text misalignment with background for image customization and foreground for style transfer during the denoising process. Such facts, as we observed, rooted from the entanglement among hybrid frequency bands during the denoising process. In particular, the low-frequency band primarily captures color information, mid-frequency band encodes global structure, while high-frequency band corresponds to local texture. Besides, the early (high-noise) denoising stage mainly focuses on the low-and-mid frequency bands, while the late (low-noise) denoising stage progressively exhibits the high-frequency band, which, all together, overwhelm the text prompt guidance, suffering from the heavy reliance on reference image. To address such salient limitation, in this paper, we study personalized generation based on dual references - customization and color style reference - to propose a paradigm to disentangle these Dual image references within Frequency-aware Diffusion Models, dubbed Dual-FDM, to simultaneously tackle two crucial personalized image generation tasks: customization style transfer and color style transfer, by disentangling different frequency bands via mask strategy within frequency domain. We further compute the ratio of information entropy of the substituted frequency bands to adaptively modulate the denoising timesteps between the early and late stages. Extensive experiments validate the superiority of Dual-FDM over the state-of-the-art diffusion models for personalized image generation. 原文摘要

Computational drug discovery offers a growing range of tools for proposing and evaluating molecules, but combining them and deciding what to do next still requires substantial expert effort. Here, we introduce El Agente Fármaco, an AI scientist that uses modern large language model (LLM) technology to turn discovery goals expressed in everyday language into complex, scalable computational screening workflows. The agentic harness selects scientific tools, reviews their results, and adjusts subsequent steps to the target and the user's objectives. Our approach centers on a shared scientific memory: Fármaco Atlas, which stores molecules, structures, and results together with their provenance -- a record of how they were obtained. The agent uses targeted database queries to retrieve the evidence needed for each decision. A single request can launch calculations for an entire collection of molecules, without requiring a separate LLM decision for every compound. This design limits the information the model must process as screening collections grow, while keeping the underlying results available for inspection and further analysis. The integrated tools support molecule generation, prediction of binding and molecular properties, and searches for compounds available for purchase. In a retrospective comparison with an expert-led campaign, the agent proposed chemically distinct candidates with competitive docking scores and higher calculated drug-likeness under explicitly imposed selection criteria. In a 22-task benchmark against plain tool calls and Codex, the agent achieved the highest observed mean model-judged score, with lower median cumulative token use and peak context. Fármaco provides a foundation for flexible, scalable drug discovery workflows that connect scientific reasoning with an enduring, traceable record of computational work.

Lower Bounds for Parallel Diffusion Sampling

Yiwen Kou, Yimeng Wang

原文摘要

Standard diffusion samplers generate samples through sequential evaluations of a learned score function, with each query depending on previous answers. Parallel samplers seek to accelerate this process by making multiple score queries simultaneously. We ask how many adaptive rounds are necessary when each round allows polynomially many queries. We establish the first polynomial lower bounds on the round complexity of diffusion sampling with approximate scores satisfying a mean-square accuracy guarantee. Specifically, we prove (1) a $\widetildeΩ(d^{1/3})$-round lower bound for sampling smooth, near-isotropic Gaussian mixtures in $\mathbb{R}^d$, and (2) a tight $Ω(d)$-round lower bound for uniform sampling from anisotropic axis-aligned boxes contained in the unit ball. Both bounds hold for arbitrary randomized algorithms making polynomially many queries per round at arbitrary locations and noise levels, with inverse-polynomial score error and constant total variation accuracy. Our near-isotropic construction follows the blockwise approach of earlier lower bounds for parallel matroid search and discrete sampling \cite{KUW85,AGR24}. We use independent coordinate blocks containing random codebooks with well-separated rates and construct approximate score oracles whose responses in each block depend on consistency tests in earlier blocks. Together, the rate separation and these tests ensure that each round reveals information about at most one additional block with high probability.

Progressive Pseudo-Label Optimization for Point-Supervised Change Detection

Hailong Ning, Hao Wang, Yimeng Wang, Tao Lei, Renwei Dian, Asoke K. Nandi

原文摘要

Point-supervised change detection (PS-CD) aims to identify pixel-level changes between bi-temporal images using only sparsely annotated points. Although point annotations substantially reduce labeling costs, their limited spatial coverage often results in incomplete and noisy pseudo-labels. To address this issue, we propose a two-stage framework that introduces SAM2 priors into PS-CD and progressively adapts them to the target task. In Stage I, SAM2 generates object-aware candidate masks from point annotations on the bi-temporal images, and a bi-temporal mask selection strategy is designed to convert generic segmentation responses into more reliable change pseudo-labels. Subsequently, a lightweight CNN refinement module with an uncertainty-aware loss is employed to improve boundary quality and local structural consistency. In Stage II, we construct a teacher-student self-training framework in which the teacher is updated by exponential moving average and periodically refreshes the pseudo-labels. This design establishes a closed-loop optimization process that alternates between pseudo-label refinement and model re-optimization. Experiments on three benchmark datasets, including WHU-CD, LEVIR-CD, and SYSU-CD, demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms previous weakly supervised approaches on most benchmarks and remains competitive with several fully supervised methods.

EviCast: Forecasting Retrieval Gains Through Shared Response Calibration

原文摘要

Retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) extends large language models with external evidence, yet relevant evidence does not ensure that a generator can use it. Indiscriminate retrieval can degrade task performance while adding retrieval and long-context inference costs. Existing methods neither determine before large-scale execution whether a generator, task distribution, and retriever configuration is worth deploying nor diagnose multiple candidate retrievers under a shared budget. We introduce EviCast, a framework that forecasts retrieval value through interventional evidence-state decomposition. EviCast measures a generator's response to controlled evidence states once and combines this shared profile with the offline evidence-state distribution of each candidate retriever, yielding the end-to-end net utility and its 95% lower confidence bound without executing every RAG configuration. A state-refinement analysis characterizes when its binary and topology-aware instantiations are exact and when shared calibration is statistically more efficient than per-retriever calibration. In frozen evaluations, EviCast correctly decides all 14 HotpotQA retrieval configurations with a forecast error of 2.75 F1 points while reducing diagnostic generation calls by 80%, and it attains the lowest forecast error among seven predictors in the low-budget regime. Its topology-aware instantiation, EviCast-T, captures the complementarity between terminal and bridge evidence, correctly deciding all 16 configurations on MuSiQue and HotpotQA and 23 of 24 after prospective transfer to a third dataset. These results show that retrieval deployment depends on both evidence availability and the generator's ability to convert evidence structure into stable net utility. Code is available at https://github.com/YiboWang2002/EviCast.

EEG-HealthLLM: Hierarchical Adaptation of Large Language Models for Unified Heterogeneous EEG Health Assessment

原文摘要

Electroencephalography (EEG) provides a non-invasive means for neurological and mental health assessment, yet existing EEG models are typically developed for individual tasks and are difficult to unify across heterogeneous signal configurations and assessment objectives. Large language models (LLMs) offer a common interface for multiple tasks, but adapting heterogeneous EEG signals to a shared LLM raises a key challenge: how to preserve task-specific signal characteristics while enabling effective language-side parameter sharing. To address this problem, we propose EEG-HealthLLM, a unified and parameter-efficient framework for heterogeneous EEG health assessment. We introduce an Asymmetric Hierarchical Adaptation Strategy: task-specific EEG adapters preserve heterogeneous spatio-temporal dynamics, while a unified shared LoRA is injected into the LLM backbone (e.g., Phi-3) to capture shared high-level assessment semantics across tasks. We further establish EEG-HealthBench by reorganizing five existing EEG resources into paradigms covering epileptic seizure detection, major depressive disorder assessment, anxiety risk assessment, depressive symptom risk assessment, and emotional state assessment under a unified subject-independent protocol. Extensive experiments show that EEG-HealthLLM achieves an average balanced accuracy (BAC) of 69.58%, ranking first among the evaluated methods in both average BAC and macro-F1. Compared with independent single-task LoRA adaptation, it improves average BAC from 67.70% to 69.58% while reducing the aggregate language-side adapter footprint by 80.0%. Further analyses reveal task-dependent cross-task interactions and trade-offs, supporting the proposed hierarchical adaptation strategy. The implementation is publicly available at https://github.com/Marui-88/EEG-HealthLLM.

MER-Bench: Benchmarking Multimodal Emotional Reappraisal for Image-Text Memes

Yiqi Nie, Fei Wang, Junjie Chen, Kun Li, Yudi Cai, Dan Guo, Chenglong Li, Meng Wang

原文摘要

Multimodal Emotional Reappraisal (MER) aims to shift affective interpretation by rewriting and editing a situation without altering its underlying semantic context. Despite advances in controllable editing and sentiment transfer, MER remains challenging under coupled multimodal constraints, especially in internet memes where images, embedded text, and layout jointly encode affective meaning. To bridge this gap, we present MER-Bench, a systematic benchmark for MER on image-text memes, containing over 3,000 real-world memes with fine-grained annotations for emotion transformation and structure-preserving multimodal editing. MER-Bench spans diverse visual, textual, and structural settings and is paired with a structured MLLM-as-a-Judge evaluation suite, comprising eight fine-grained metrics and three aggregated objectives for emotional alignment, content fidelity, and transformation strength. Extensive evaluation of 14 advanced multimodal models reveals that: (1) current models struggle to jointly balance affect, semantics, structure, and text; (2) strong visual editing does not imply effective MER, with poor embedded text rendering and affect-aware rewriting remaining key bottlenecks. Our results identify MER as a critical capability gap in current multimodal generation systems and highlight affective image-text reasoning as a key challenge for future work. Adaptive Federated Optimization Across Smooth and Nonsmooth Regimes

Zimeng Wang, Ali Dadras, Alp Yurtsever

原文摘要

AdaGrad-style methods can simultaneously adapt to both the order and constants of smoothness in centralized optimization. However, existing extensions to federated optimization with heterogeneous client objectives and multiple local steps require the smoothness order to be specified in advance. We address this limitation with AdaFed, a federated method that adapts across several regimes under a single choice of parameters. In the deterministic setting, AdaFed achieves an $O(1/T)$ convergence rate for both smooth nonconvex and smooth convex objectives, and an $O(1/\sqrt{T})$ rate for Lipschitz nonsmooth convex objectives up to logarithmic factors. Under a light-tailed stochastic-gradient noise assumption, these guarantees extend to the stochastic setting with additional logarithmic factors and noise-dependent terms. Experiments across the three problem classes further support our theoretical findings.

VETime: Vision Enhanced Zero-Shot Time Series Anomaly Detection

原文摘要

Time-series anomaly detection (TSAD) requires identifying both immediate Point Anomalies and long-range Context Anomalies. However, existing foundation models face a fundamental trade-off: 1D temporal models provide fine-grained pointwise localization but lack a global contextual perspective, while 2D vision-based models capture global patterns but suffer from information bottlenecks due to a lack of temporal alignment and coarse-grained pointwise detection. To resolve this dilemma, we propose VETime, the first TSAD framework that unifies temporal and visual modalities through fine-grained visual-temporal alignment and dynamic fusion. VETime introduces a Reversible Image Conversion and a Patch-Level Temporal Alignment module to establish a shared visual-temporal timeline, preserving discriminative details while maintaining temporal sensitivity. Furthermore, we design an Anomaly Window Contrastive Learning mechanism and a Task-Adaptive Multi-Modal Fusion to adaptively integrate the complementary perceptual strengths of both modalities. Extensive experiments demonstrate that VETime significantly outperforms state-of-the-art models in zero-shot scenarios, achieving superior localization precision with lower computational overhead than current vision-based approaches. CAPTURER: A Dexterous Aerial Manipulator for Dynamic and Precise Grasping across Diverse Environments

原文摘要

As a representative form of embodied robotic interaction, aerial grasping requires close coordination between the aerial platform and manipulator. Most existing systems perform aerial grasping with static or slowly moving targets under fixed scenarios. Dynamic and precise grasping across different conditions introduces additional challenges, including target motion, localization drift, dynamic coupling, and external disturbances. In this work, we present CAPTURER, a dexterous aerial manipulator for centimeter-level grasping across diverse environments. To achieve the challenging goal, we first develop an onboard perception system for state estimation and target detection. Drift correction and global pose transformation are introduced to improve target localization during flight. A cooperative motion planner is proposed to coordinate the mobility of the aerial platform with the dexterity of the manipulator according to the relative target state. To maintain grasping accuracy under disturbances, we design a disturbance-rejection controller to compensate for dynamic coupling, model uncertainty, and external disturbances. The capability of CAPTURER is validated through indoor and outdoor experiments with both static and moving targets. The results demonstrate that CAPTURER achieves centimeter-level grasping accuracy for a marker pen measuring only 1.5 cm in diameter at flight speeds exceeding 1.5 m/s.

Can LLMs Design Video Coding Tools? A Case Study on Planar Mode

Yingwen Zhang, Meng Wang, Liqiang He, Shiqi Wang

原文摘要

This paper explores whether large language models (LLMs) can design video coding tools, a highly challenging task due to the intricate algorithmic coupling of tool modifications. In particular, we present an empirical case study on the Planar mode, a long-standing intra prediction tool in video coding standards. Our experiments operate within a generation-and-evaluation loop, with the LLM generating new Planar predictors, encoder trials evaluating their coding performance, and the LLM re-generating refined implementations based on the evaluation feedback. We first examine directly replacing the default Planar mode in the Fraunhofer Versatile Video Encoder (VVenC) under its faster preset. Experimental results demonstrate that the LLM-generated mode can outperform the conventional Planar mode on this lightweight toolset, achieving 0.18% bitrate savings with 0.4% complexity overhead on the standard benchmark. We further extend our evaluation to the Enhanced Compression Model (ECM). Leveraging newly introduced directional Planar modes, we investigate two integration strategies: directly replacing them, and introducing the LLM-generated predictor as an additional prediction mode with new syntax elements. The empirical results suggest that both strategies can yield coding gains under a constrained low-resolution setting. Overall, this study offers preliminary evidence and practical insights, highlighting both the potential and open challenges of LLM-based coding tool design.

Anti-Length Shift: Dynamic Outlier Truncation for Training Efficient Reasoning Models

原文摘要

Large reasoning models enhanced by reinforcement learning with verifiable rewards have achieved significant performance gains by extending their chain-of-thought. However, this paradigm incurs substantial deployment costs as models often exhibit excessive verbosity on simple queries. Existing efficient reasoning methods relying on explicit length penalties often introduce optimization conflicts and leave the generative mechanisms driving overthinking largely unexamined. In this paper, we identify a phenomenon termed length shift where models increasingly generate unnecessary reasoning on trivial inputs during training. To address this, we introduce Dynamic Outlier Truncation (DOT), a training-time intervention that selectively suppresses redundant tokens. This method targets only the extreme tail of response lengths within fully correct rollout groups while preserving long-horizon reasoning capabilities for complex problems. To complement this intervention and ensure stable convergence, we further incorporate auxiliary KL regularization and predictive dynamic sampling. Experimental results across multiple model scales demonstrate that our approach significantly pushes the efficiency-performance Pareto frontier outward. Notably, on the AIME-24, our method reduces inference token usage by 78% while simultaneously increasing accuracy compared to the initial policy and surpassing state-of-the-art efficient reasoning methods.

原文摘要

Amidst a shortage of qualified mental health professionals, the integration of large language models (LLMs) into psychological applications offers a promising way to alleviate the growing burden of mental health disorders. Recent reasoning-augmented LLMs have achieved remarkable performance in mathematics and programming, while research in the psychological domain has predominantly emphasized emotional support and empathetic dialogue, with limited attention to reasoning mechanisms that are beneficial to generating accurate responses. Therefore, in this paper, we propose Psyche-R1, the first Chinese psychological LLM that jointly integrates empathy, psychological expertise, and reasoning, built upon a novel data curation pipeline. Specifically, we design a comprehensive data synthesis pipeline that produces over 75k high-quality psychological questions paired with detailed rationales, generated through and iterative prompt-rationale optimization procedure, along with 73k empathetic dialogues. Subsequently, we employ a hybrid training strategy wherein challenging samples are identified through a multi-LLM cross-selection strategy for group relative policy optimization (GRPO) to improve reasoning ability, while the remaining data are used for supervised fine-tuning (SFT) to enhance empathetic response generation and psychological domain knowledge. Extensive experiment results demonstrate the effectiveness of Psyche-R1 across several psychological benchmarks, where our 7B Psyche-R1 achieves comparable results to 671B DeepSeek-R1.

原文摘要

Large reasoning models ( e.g., R1, o3) have demonstrated remarkable mathematical problem-solving abilities. However, the high reported accuracy of these advanced models on popular datasets and reliance on purely numerical evaluation often mask their true reasoning shortcomings. To address this, we propose leveraging the inherent rigor and methodological complexity of mathematical proofs as a diagnostic tool to expose these hidden failures. Specifically, we introduce the RFMDataset (Reveal Failure Modes), a collection of 200 diverse mathematical proof problems to thoroughly evaluate the performance of advanced models. Our in-depth analysis of their failures uncovers 10 fine-grained error types, which shows fundamental limitations in current large reasoning models: 1) Large reasoning models still have limited capability in generating entirely correct mathematical proofs, with some models solving less than 20% of problems and even making mistakes on fundamental ones; 2) models exhibit a diverse spectrum of reasoning failures, prominently demonstrating the lack of guarantees for the correctness and rigor intermediate reasoning steps; and 3) models show hallucination and incompleteness during the reasoning process. Our findings also reveal that directly prompting models to self-reflect on specific failure modes is insufficient to resolve the current logical dilemmas, necessitating domain knowledge and formal verification.

原文摘要

Temporal reasoning is crucial for large language models (LLMs) to understand event concurrency and complex temporal interactions in natural language. Recent approaches rely on the LLM to infer temporal relations between events and largely overlook the inherent structural nature of temporal relationships. In this work, we propose ODL-TempLLM (Ontology-Guided and Description Logic–Constrained Temporal Reasoning with LLMs), a novel paradigm for temporal reasoning with LLMs that shifts focus from internal inference to the explicit modeling of temporal structure. ODL-TempLLM leverages ontology learning to explicitly construct structured temporal knowledge, employs a symbolic reasoner to deductively reason about temporal relations and uses logic-constrained retrieval augmentation to obtain relevant facts.Experiments results evaluated across there datasets via various LLM backbones show that our method outperforms state-of-the-art methods by 2.07–31.83 F1 points and 1.00–30.73 EM points, exhibiting strong generalization and highlighting the potential of explicit temporal reasoning.
